The idea that GRRM is anti Tolkien is particularly funny because ASOIAF is sprinkled with rather intricate (and even passionate) homages to LOTR. And I can’t help but think of how Tolkien’s Fellowship, more specifically the Hobbits, may have inspired GRRM’s Night’s Watch. Jon Snow, for starters, is in many ways a combination of LOTR’s Frodo and Aragorn. And in the same way that Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin are unexpected heroes in LOTR (because who looks to a hobbit as the face of an epic adventure?), Jon the bastard becomes the leader of a ragtag of socially disenfranchised men (in the form of the NW) who are anything but heroic. Sure there’s the odd knight or noble in there, but the NW is quite full of criminals and the very worst of the social order. The hobbits aren’t the strongest or the sharpest but they become the face of the fight against Sauron. And the NW, while being severely undermanned and under-equipped, has become the main force that stands against winter. GRRM even adds a love letter to Tolkien’s Sam Gamgee by adding his on Sam - Sam Tarly - who acts as a moral compass and counselor to Jon, in the same ways that Sam Gamgee is key to Frodo’s journey. And just like Frodo, Jon gets his very own pair of jokester friends, one of whine is even named Pyp. So it’s all very beautiful and nice, and we should talk about it more because it’s super evident that GRRM is a massive Tolkien fanboy. But I do have to say tho, GRRM’s take on Gandalf is exceedingly hilarious just because Melisandre is famously very bad at her job.

Even though I did not ship them, I will always be a little bit heartbroken over how the relationship between Gale and Katniss ends. They were like family to one another, so essential to the other’s survival, the only person Katniss could be herself around for a long time before the games. They were so close that the other’s family become their own, with Katniss taking care of Gale’s family and vice-versa. They knew each other so well, were so acquainted with one another’s ticks and heartbeats and quirks. I really enjoyed their friendship and it’s so so sad to me to watch them drift apart during the third book until they finally just cut contact with one another. I will always be an Everlarker, do not get me wrong, but Katniss and Gale’s friendship was so special and it sucks the way it ended. It just goes to show that war really does taint every relationship, every part of your life, everything that makes you the person you are.

the only criticism of the new snow white that i find valid is the fact that disney’s “ideas” are running dry and their latest projects are completely void of originality. instead of remaking every one of their old films they should come up with brand new ideas and princesses and such. but if they Are going to remake the old ones they might as well rehash the stories for the 21st century, to make them interesting and refreshing at the very least??? like what’s the harm in a brand new take on the story of snow white when we’ve already seen the same thing done over and over again the past… this time she can still be a pretty princess wearing a dress And an independent woman with her own autonomy… and i see no harm in perpetuating that narrative for all the young girls who will inevitably be exposed to this new film. Also if you’re worried about the physical character, rachel zegler’s face literally looks like a live action version of the animated character and her singing voice suits the role unlike pretty much any other contemporary actress. plus most of the things she’s actually said about this film have been taken out of context, beaten with a stick, and misconstrued completely… people are just looking for new ways to hate on successful & talented young women

I am tired of seeing some people claim that Sara Snow needs to be brought into House of the Dragon in order to make Jacaerys interesting. I find him quite interesting already. He is shown to be quite studious which seems to come from him wanting to prove himself worthy of being Rhaenyra’s heir because he knows that he is a bastard. He is fiercely loyal to his family and is a protective older brother especially to Lucerys. He is chivalrous to women as shown when he dances with Helaena while Aegon had made crude jokes about Jacaery’s ability to please Baela in the marriage bed. He seems to get along quite well with Daemon and possibly sees him as a father figure even though he is his stepfather. He has even shown to have a temper when it comes to him and his siblings being insulted too. So just like how women in stories don’t need a man to make them interesting, Jacaerys doesn’t need Sara Snow to make him interesting. This is just Team Green thinking that in order for a man to be interesting they need to be extremely terrible like Aegon and Aemond.
