The thing about S1 Jamie that I think is interesting is I think on rewatch there is some insight as to why Jamie went so hard on the bullying of Sam. (Not gonna be defending Jamie's treatment of Sam just looking into maybe why). Because out of all of the things Jamie did is season one. The one that seems hardest to understand or really forgive is his treatment of Sam. The first time around, you couldn't understand it. Sam is legitimately the kindest man in existence. (I know as a stroyteller it was the easiest way to really get us to dislike Jamie and really make us more understanding of Roy's treatment of Jamie which to be frank is not great and understand Ted's fruatrations with him) and Sam just keeps trying with Jamie.
But know I think it far to say thay S1 Jamie was jealous of Sam and his easy going, happy, postive nature. I dont think he was aware of it though.
Season 1 Jamie is so interesting because on paper, he had everything he thought he wanted. But I dint think he was overally happy. But yeah it seemed to be all his way
1. He played for the team he grew up supporting and dreamed of playing for. I imagine his first time stepping on that fiels in that uniform would have been monumental. Sure, maybe he wasn't a starter, but he got some minutes and the unspken agreement that in a few years, he would be a star.
2. I imagine he was initially disappointed to be loaned out, but then he learns he is being loaned to Richmond. Yeah they suck, but he gets to play a full 90 minutes, is basically going to be the best player, kick most of thier goals and he gets to be team mates with Roy Kent (he dreamed of playing against him one day, with him is a dream come true, I really think pre show Jamie would have been so excited to play with Roy Kent and was so disappointed in how it turned out). Plus, it has the added advantage of getting him away from his dad. And once his done his loan, he can come back to Manchester. This is his chance to get away from it for a while and be the star
3. He meets and gets to date Keely Jones who his always had a crush on. Dhe is literally a dream girl for him
So he should be happy right. His got everything he wanted, but it's not going the way he expected because.....
1. Roy Kent hates him (in my mind Roy was standoffish from the start, heres come this whizkid who was everything he used to be and slowly losing. I think Jamie came in at 100% and immediatley put Roy on the back foot). Jamie tries with Roy but the more it doesnt work the more Jamie goes OK, if I cant make him like me I will show him I am better than him. Hence the beginning of that relationship.
2. Yeah his away from his dad and his killing it at Richmond, scoring their goals, winning them matches but it only seems to be winning over half the team (he can't see yet his attitude is what is stopping the other guys from liking him). And the team still isn't doing great even with him. Plus he may be away from his Dad but his relationship with his mum feels like it in a werid place which sucks cause she is his favourite person ever.
3. And Keeley seems to be where its going right but sometimes it feels like his a bit of a project for her. And I think he has heard people (like Roy) question why she is with him.
And let's face it, he is still likely hearing from his dad when he doesn't perform up to his standards.
And then heres Sam. Who (at this point in time) isn't playing well, isn't scoring goals, not massively contributing to thier wins and yet he seems so genuinely happy all the time and everyone loves him, Roy Kent seems to like him and is friendly with him, complimenting him (which he has never done to Jamie). Sam is so open and kind he has probably talked about his dad in the locker room, and his relationship with his family seems perfect and that must gnaw at Jamie because all he ever wanted is to make his dad proud and his pretty sure he will never achieve it because the man is a d***k who is impossoble to please, yet Jamie never stops trying and things are werid with his mum which he hates. But all he hears when its brought up from Sam is how great his family is.
Then along comes the new gaffer who Jamie can't even understand why he is coaching, but he also seems to love Sam and wants him to be the decoy so Sam can kick the goal. Even though Jamie knows if he kicks it, it will go in.
Now we all know the reason Sam is liked is because he is an amazing, kind hearted, dedicated person, but I think S1 Jamie is so jealous and does not even know it.
Because S1 Jamie is still living with the notion that being the best in the most important thing ( thank you James Tartt Sr) so to Jamie he is out here busting his ass at training to be the best, scoring all the goals yet Sam seems to be the one who is living what he thought his dream time at Richmond was going to be. And I know I mention it but I think it is a big thing for Jamie, the harder he tries the more Roy seems to despise him, and take enjoyment in his embarrassment.
And S1 Jamie in all maturity handles his jealously by trying to make Sam feel as bad as he is feeling. Which Jamie, baby. That's kindergarten mentality. And poor Sam actually thinks Jamie is a great player and would love to learn from him in the beginning and isnt having a great time either.
But yeah. I dont think Jamie ever disliked Sam. I think he was insanly jealous of him all the time and didn't know how to handle that or even admit it himself.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. Apologies for my rambles.

Cats and Lemonade
from @jegulus-microfic's prompt, swim (359 words)
i had to make today's extra cute and sweet because apparently beo's will be devastating and y'all deserve something to combat that <3. so have some baby jeggy! i'm picturing them being about 6 and 7 here!
“Reggie! You made it!” James stumbles across the grass to meet his friend by the fence.
The Blacks and the Potters have long since lived next door to each other, but for reasons James can’t understand, the Blacks haven’t allowed their children to get anywhere near James. It makes him sad.
But one day, a little boy with curly raven coloured hair and a face spotted with freckles found his way through a hole in the fence, skinny as he was, and he and James became instant friends. James would spend every day with Reggie if he could. He never wants to be away from him. Unfortunately, Reggie’s parents are still strict and mean and the time they get to spend together is limited.
Luckily, it’s the summer right now, so neither of them have school to worry about, and Reggie’s parents are still busy with work. Today, Reggie’s snuck over to play in the pool with James and James has been excited about it all week. He got his mom to make them lemonade and waited with the cat for Reggie to arrive (Reggie loves cats, he told James himself).
Back to the present, Reggie smiles widely at James and immediately falls to the ground to play with the cat. James quickly snatches the cat away (a bit jealous of the attention he was getting) and brings Reggie over to his little set up. Reggie is overjoyed by the lemonade as apparently his mom doesn’t let him have sugary drinks, which just seems cruel to James, and the two of them splash and swim around in the pool all day.
When they’re all tired out, they lie down on some towels and Reggie tells James all about the sky. James sits and listens, fascinated and relishes in all the time he can spend with his Reggie until he has to go back home again. James wishes he could just steal Reggie away and stay with him forever, but he supposes what they can do now is good enough if it’s all they can have. One day, Reggie will run away, and James knows they’ll never be apart again.

waking up from a nap and james not being there so we go search for him and he's w Remus and Sirius but it doesn't even matter bc you NEED your post nap hug :(
You’re groggy as you peel your eyes open, the evening sun blocked out a little from James’ shut curtains.
You move a little closer to his side and frown. Usually, there’s a warm body to cuddle up to, the soft smell of cardamom and clove but not this time.
With an even more severe frown, you walk out to the living room. When you hear the voices of Sirius and Remus you know where to find him immediately.
“Jamie,” you whine, an even more pitying expression on your face as you stomp towards him.
“Hi lovie,” James knows exactly what you want and he has to actively fight a smile from breaking out on his face as he opens his arms to you. “How’d you sleep?”
His big hand pushes back all of the loose hair that’s fallen from your braid while his other one rubs your back.
This had become routine for you and James when you took naps. There must be post nap cuddles so you don’t feel grumpy.
You’re like a cat in James’ mind- you preen under his affection, do that cute head tilt when he scratches a good part on your head or back and you just love being all up under him; especially post-nap.
“Bad,” you’re just saying that and James’ laugh lets you know that he knows you’re being untruthful. “Okay it was good, just missed you.”
Sirius pipes up then, “S’rude not to acknowledge your guests yknow doll.”
You shrug, eyes closed as James scratches the base of your neck. “You’re intruding.”
James’ laughs trembles down his entire body at Sirius’ aghast look.
“How rude, Remus brought you those godforsaken melons you’ve not stopped talking about. And bunches and bunches of the black grapes you love.” Sirius’ voice goes up a pitch and you know he’s teasing.
You open one eye, catching Remus jerking his chin to the kitchen where you spot the spread of fruit.
“I never said Remus was intruding, just you. Remus never steals my boyfriend before I get post-nap cuddles.” Remus laughs at the way Sirius’ eyebrows jump to his hairline and his tattooed hand darts for your foot.
He presses a mean thumb into the arch of it until James bats his hand away.
“I’ll cut them up when you’re fully awake, ‘kay?” James whispers to you and you smile.
“Thanks Jamie,” you kiss under his chin and then say, “You’re the best.”

James Potter x fem!reader ♡ 844 words
You find your boyfriend in a corner booth, hanging onto Sirius’ arm and waxing poetic about their school days.
“They never figured out how we always avoided Minnie whenever she wanted to find us,” he snickers, eyes glimmering. “We were soooo slippery.”
“I think she knew everything,” says Remus, taking a sip of his drink. You notice there’s not one in front of James; it must have been confiscated. “She just liked us—some of us, that is—” He hides a smirk behind his glass. “—well enough to let us get away with it all.” He spots you and, with a nod, turns his attention to Sirius to give you and James space.
James humphs noncommittally, confused as to why Remus no longer seems to be entertaining him.
You come up on his other side, touching his muscled shoulder lightly. “Hey.”
James turns swiftly, clearing not having noticed you walking over. You’re expecting a smile and a hug and expectant, puckered lips—his usual greeting for you—but instead his eyes narrow behind his glasses, brows twitching together almost imperceptibly.
“Hello,” he says, somewhat stiffly.
You feel your lips curve into a bemused sort of smile. “Hi, handsome. Ready to go home?”
He guffaws. Actually guffaws, like you’ve just suggested he go jump in the Thames. “I think not,” he says. “I have a girlfriend.”
A tiny laugh startles out of you. “Yeah, I’m aware. You alright?”
Now he gives you a smile. Or his best attempt at one, but James has always been a terrible actor, and the false grin manifests as a grimace. “M’good, thanks.”
He starts to turn back towards his friends, but you pull on his sleeve.
“C’mon, Jamie,” you urge. “It’s time to go, yeah?” James turns around, looking truly scandalized now. You give his arm a tug. “Let’s go home.”
“No,” he insists, firmer than you knew could be managed with a slur. “I told you, I have a girlfriend. She’s waiting at my home, ‘nd I love her very much. Leave me alone.”
“James,” you laugh. “Honey, it’s me.”
“Pads.” He turns around, wrapping his arm around Sirius’ shoulders like he needs to hold onto something lest you try and haul him away. “Pads, this woman is trying to take me home. Tell ‘er I have a girlfriend.”
Your mouth drops open. “James!”
Sirius turns slowly, raking his gaze over you. He raises an eyebrow, unimpressed. “Get lost, babe. This one’s taken.”
Then he jolts and cuts a glare towards Remus, who sips from his drink innocently. “Be nice,” he reminds his boyfriend, foot moving back under his own chair.
Sirius sighs, rolling his eyes. “Prongs,” he says with great reluctance, “this is your girlfriend.”
Even drunk, James knows enough to be suspicious of his friend when he’s in a mischief-making mood. He squints at Sirius. “My girlfriend s’at home,” he reasons.
“Your girlfriend is here,” Sirius says evenly, and you can’t blame James for his skepticism; if you weren’t fully aware that you are here, you wouldn’t trust Sirius’ deadpan stare either.
“I texted her, James,” Remus says helpfully. “She’s here because I told her where we were.”
Your boyfriend’s lips part, and he turns to you with something between joy and heartache—but the shock of both—written all over his face. “Sweetheart,” he cries, “it’s you!”
“Yeah,” you laugh, letting him tug you forward by the hips into an awkward hug. You set a consoling hand on top of his head. “That’s what I was trying to tell you.”
“My sweetheart,” he mumbles into your stomach. “I didn’t know it was you, angel. Of course I’ll go home with you.”
“Glad to hear it.” You pat his back, heat rising to your cheeks at the display.
James turns his head, still gripping you tightly so the side of his face is pressed to your front. “You texted her for me?” he asks Remus, maudlin.
“Well, I texted her because I didn’t feel like walking in the opposite direction of our flat to carry you home,” Remus says, then shrugs. “But for you too, sure.”
“Thank you, Moony,” James croons.
Remus turns to hide a smile, and you take James’ head in your hands, angling his face back up towards you. “Hi, handsome,” you try again. “Ready to go home?”
He bobs his head happily, clambering out of his seat and whistling rowdily when you slip an arm around his waist to help support him. You wonder if the heat from your face could be harvested to power a hospital or something. You wave goodbye to his friends as James calls over your shoulder how much he’ll miss them until he sees them tomorrow.
“M’so excited to go home, baby.” He leans into your side as you maneuver the both of you out the door of the pub. “I’ve been dying to get home to you. You should’a heard, earlier, I was talking to this other girl ‘nd I told her, ‘I’m just dying to get home to my girlfriend’.”
“Yeah, I remember,” you say. “That was me.”
“Oh, right!”
