#I love concepts like these where characters bond over self care

Hazbin Hotel: Self care edition
So I’ve been obsessing over Hazbin Hotel for a hot minute now and the first thing that really comes to mind for context is self care.
To elaborate, I mean the fact that these characters often have animalistic features as part of their designs. Well, imagine them having to maintain the care of said features?
1) Hooves
To start us off, l want to bring attention to the fact that both Alastor and Charlie have hooves. Yup, both are hidden pretty well, but they are there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If anyone has ever been around farm animals like cows and horses, you’ll know that hoof care is extremely important for the health of the animals. So why not apply this to Charlie and Alastor.
Imagine them having hoof care kits and Charlie wants to take the opportunity to bond with Alastor more so this is basically like having a nail care day at a salon!
2) Wings
Next are wings and we have three winged characters in the Hotel: Lucifer, Vaggie and Husk. Wing care must be extremely important for them to be able to fly well.
Tumblr media
Starting with Lucifer, it’s important to note that the man has Depression and has Dissociative periods where he can’t pay attention for the life of him. So it’s unfortunately easy to imagine that he would often forget to preen his wings.
Well, after moving into the Hotel, I can see Charlie taking this opportunity to strengthen her bond with her dad by doing something that she has always wanted to do. She loves her dad’s wings and ends up helping him preen while they talk about anything and everything.
Tumblr media
Next is Vaggie and it would be a similar premise with Charlie wanting to bond more with her girlfriend and reforge their relationship. Yes, she is hurt that Vaggie wasn’t truthful but she still loves her.
Also, apparently, Vaggie and Charlie have been together for around 3 years or so, meaning Vaggie likely hadn’t taken out her wings at all until the battle. So she is way behind on taking care of them. Charlie uses her experience with her father’s wings to assist here and the women can talk.
Finally, Husk and honestly this could be a Huskerdust moment with Angel helping an all too tired Husk preen his wings and make sure they’re healthy and in flying shape.
3) Fur
Both Angel and Husk have fur, which means fur brushing!
Angel looks like he is the king of hair care, maintaining short and soft fur and making sure to remove any mats, knots or shed fur.
Husk has a bit more to get through with his, as he has relatively long fur. Like with his wings, I can see Angel helping Husk brush out his fur and remove any clumps, loose fur and knots. It would be a good Huskerdust moment!
Tumblr media
4) Ears
Finally, we have ears and both Husk and Alastor have them.
Tumblr media
This is one both boys want to take care of by themselves. Ear care is important for all animals and in people with such large ears, it’s easy for either of them to collect dust and other stuff, meaning wax build up. So in the privacy of their rooms, they dedicate part of their time to cleaning out their ears and maybe even applying ear drops for extra health benefits.

THE BROWN FAMILY
I decided to make a post dedicated to Hobie’s family since you guys rlly like Tani’yah. We’ll be talking about her and Hobie’s 5 other siblings (who i will draw soon but its not that crazy since most of them r based on his concept designs but yk) who are Hugo, Josiah, Hendrix, Noah(or “Syd”) and Delroy.
THE PARENTS
Tani’yah Brown
Tani’yah, a resilient and nurturing mother of six, emanates a bold and headstrong aura that has seamlessly transitioned from her spirited youth into her adulthood. Her unwavering commitment to family is evident, as she consistently places their well-being above all else. With a heart guided by tough love, Tani’yah has shaped her children's characters, instilling a sense of discipline and responsibility.
Having predominantly raised boys, she possesses an innate understanding of each child's unique needs, providing individualized care and support. Tani’yah's strength lies in her ability to balance a somewhat strict demeanor with a lively and witty personality, creating an environment where her children can both learn important life lessons and enjoy the lighter moments.
Despite her tough exterior, Tani’yah is not one to shy away from fun and games, often participating in lively activities with her kids. Her playful side adds an element of joy to the family dynamic, creating cherished memories that balance the more serious aspects of parenting.
Tani’yah faced a significant challenge when Hobie deceived her about his secret identity. The disappointment she felt was immense, considering the amount of danger he was putting himself through. Despite that, she, along with Hobie's brothers, embraced him wholeheartedly. Her primary concern now is that Hobie learns from this experience and endeavors to be more truthful in the future, reinforcing the importance of honesty and trust within the family unit. Tani’yah's journey as a mother reflects a tapestry of strength, wisdom, and love, weaving a narrative of resilience and familial devotion — making her a primary role model in Hobie’s life.
Ulysses Brown
Ulysses, once a stable and caring father, faced a tumultuous turn of events that reshaped him into a man they despised. Struggling with the loss of his job and the death of his beloved mother, Ulysses succumbed to the dark grip of alcoholism. This descent into addiction led to a drastic shift in his behavior towards Tani’yah and their children. Initially a loving partner and father, the burdens of life transformed him into a harsh, unpredictable presence in their lives.
As Tani’yah reached a point where she could no longer fulfill his needs, Ulysses' resentment manifested in mistreatment towards her and the children. The toxic atmosphere that ensued ultimately led to the dissolution of their marriage, marking a painful separation. Ulysses, grappling with personal issues, chose to leave, abandoning his family.
Hobie carried heavy resentment towards him. There were periods were he would try to get in contact with Tani’yah, but they rejected him.
SIBLINGS
from Oldest to Youngest:
Hugo Brown, 22
Hugo, the eldest of the brown siblings and lead vocalist for, exudes a smug confidence that adds an edge to the band's dynamic. Despite being dubbed the "voice of reason," his wisdom is often a byproduct of his seniority and responsibility within the group. Hugo carries a portable microphone, not just for the stage, but as a symbol of his intolerance for being talked over—He’s very hard on the others but Hobie especially, reasoning is unknown as of now. Hobie never bothered to ask what his deal was.
Josiah Brown, 22
Josiah, the second oldest among his siblings, sharing unbreakable bond with Hugo as they’re twins. His cluelessness adds a quirky charm to his personality. A surprising contrast to his laid-back attitude is his meticulous approach to hair care, due to being self-consciousness about his appearance. Interacting with Hobie, however, proves to be a source of both awkwardness and frustration for Josiah, as their personalities clash and refuse to align, making then unable to get along.
Hendrix Brown, 20
Hendrix, the mute guitarist of the band, possesses a reserved demeanor that sets him apart from the other outgoing personalities within the group. Despite his silence, he radiates reliability, a pillar of strength for the band. Behind this facade he’s quite humorous, adding a unique charm to his character. Hendrix is the steady force, steering clear of trouble while contributing an essential blend of talent and wit to the band's dynamic. Hobie finds his company especially pleasant and often goes to him for advice on how to handle certain situations.
Delroy “Del” Brown, 18
Del is the second youngest member. He carries an air of aloofness, a result of the protective wall he's built due to deep-seated fears of vulnerability and having trust issues. However, if you get closer enough to him, you discover a laid-back and talkative individual who values genuine connections. Due to being adopted into the family, it’s left him often feeling disconnected from the rest of the group, often seen in solitude or with Syd. Besides Syd, he finds it easier being in Hobie’s company most of the time — their relationship isn’t very strong, though.
Noah “Syd” Brown, 17
Syd, the world's biggest instigator and drummer, is a vibrant force of energy. His loud and enthusiastic nature is magnified by the fact that he's deaf in one ear, blissfully unaware of the volume he projects while speaking. Cursing like a sailor, he adds a rebellious edge to his persona. Hyperactive and emotionally charged, Syd embodies intensity, amplifying every human emotion by tenfold. Despite his childish nature, he despises being treated like a baby, reacting harshly to any infantilizing comments made at him due to being the youngest.
TRIVIA
※ Noah’s nickname ‘Syd’ is one that he picked up and mainly wants non-family members to use it.
※ Their main hangout spot is their garage, that they don’t use since Tani’yah doesn’t own a car, and where they rehearse.
※ Their band is called “The Cunts” courtesy of Del LMAO.
※ Josiah is not allowed to cook anymore due to nearly setting himself on fire on multiple occasions.
Anddd that’s all I have for you all! I love them a lot and I hope you guys will too. 🤎🤎 Have any questions? My inbox is open!
I will update this with drawings of all of them so be on the lookout 🧏🏽‍♂️

A Clyde (South Park) concept please!
I'm probably the only one but I really do like Clyde- I love the main four/five boys but I also like Craig's gang, lol. Aged up as usual, takes place after high school/during the end of high school are mentioned like some other fics.
Yandere! Clyde Donovan Concept
Pairing: Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Flirting, Stalking mention, Emotional manipulation, Dubious relationship at times, Kidnapping, Dependency issues, Clingy behavior, Mental breakdown implied.
Tumblr media
Clyde's character is meant to be based off of jocks from what I've seen.
Which means it would make sense if during high school he was a jock.
He's not the most intelligent in his classes, arrogant, bit into flirting, emotional at times, but has times where he's nice and caring.
Clyde most likely met and fell for you during his time in high school.
He was failing his classes and needed help.
You were one of the smarter kids in his class, or at least average in terms of grades, so you offer to help tutor.
Not wanting to fail... Clyde agrees.
Which leads to Clyde falling for you because you helped him.
He definitely fits the jock x nerd dynamic with his darling in this concept.
Although he's nerdy himself, too.
Clyde is Flirtatious, Obsessive, Self-absorbed, Slightly manipulative, Jealous, and Emotional.
I will admit the fandom makes him too emotional at times.
However, I also can't deny the fact he does cry sometimes.
Clyde during his high school days felt he was hot stuff.
He thinks you'll fall for him easily if he gives you some sweet words and longing looks.
You don't.
You just want to be his friend and help him not fail.
Clyde finds this irritable but listens to you chat with a sigh.
He may not understand what you're saying yet your voice sounds lovely.
There's a good chance after the tutor sessions you two stay friends.
When you find out about Clyde's love of movies you two bond even more.
He gets really nervous and tries to clean his room when you come over....
It's funny how despite Clyde seeming like a jock... he's also got similar interests to you.
As high school goes on you and Clyde remain very close friends.
Not like you could abandon him now anways, his grades tank when you do.
You become a big help to him getting through high school.
Even when you're not hanging out Clyde breaks off from his normal friend group to watch you.
He crushes hard on you but doesn't let anyone else know.
He'd be relentlessly picked on.
Admittedly he tries to justify his obsessive crush on you with thinking you love him the same.
You most likely don't (at this time).
Despite this he still remembers where you live... your classes... everything he can about you.
He remembers those details, not his classwork....
Clyde may also be the type to tug on his darling's emotions.
He himself is very emotionally driven, he'd think he can use your sympathy against you.
This is another way he keeps you with him during school.
A few well placed tears here... maybe a breakdown there... he learns to master it.
You have no idea he's playing into your heart to get you to care for him.
How you two start dating and his obsession speeds up can happen a few ways
You date before you graduate and continue after graduation.
You date before you graduate, break up, then meet up again after high school.
Or you never date until after high school.
Either way, Clyde gets a bit desperate.
You're both adults now and Clyde obsessively wants to spend his time with you.
If you're dating before and after high school then he doesn't worry as much.
Clyde is happy he doesn't have to part with you after graduation.
He calls and texts you often, telling you how much he loves you for helping him and coming into his life.
He's clingy, often craving warmth and contact with you.
At this point he only needs to worry about preserving his relationship with you.
Same thing if he decides to date you after high school.
He confesses his feelings and you accept, leading you to date.
Again, all Clyde needs to do is keep the relationship alive.
If you break up or reject him... there's more drama.
You have to block him on your phone as every message is him begging for you to forgive him and take him back.
He's become so reliant on you he hates the idea of letting you go.
You have to lock your door and threaten to call the cops as Clyde will not step away from your outside door.
Meanwhile Clyde is pouting at you through the window, begging to be let in.
In moments like this... Clyde would cry.
It would be in character for him to cry if he couldn't have you.
He would not leave outside your house until someone drags him off.
You'll get increasingly more scared and annoyed at hearing him sob outside in the cold.
Once he leaves... you feel relief.
Until your old high school friend breaks into your house and abducts you.
You're terrified when a gloved hand covers your mouth, eyes wide and shushing you.
"It's okay... I just need to see you.... I can't live without you...!"
Some way or another, Clyde will make you his.
He's very affectionate towards you when you're together.
He loves to talk to you, hold you, kiss you, anything physical works with him.
He wants to feel hands on his face... praising him.
After high school Clyde always managed you two together.
Be it in each other's arms...
Or cuffed together.
He doesn't care either way.
If anyone tried to disagree with your relationship Clyde may try to fight them.
He's caring with you!
They should mind their business!
He isn't a big fighter but he'd do it enough to keep you with him.
Overall, Clyde just wants to spend his days after schooling with you.
He'll sit you down under the blankets, cooing about how much he adores you as he plays his favorite movie...
With hand cuffs keeping you in place beside him.

Hi sorry for the ask jumpscare. I've been craving some Nile angst recently and may you could provide some of that Nile angst. (bc I randomly remembered the unrequited love Nile/Kyouya clip a while back. But it doesn't have to be about that.)
oooouhhh Nile angst,,, I haven’t had any angst thoughts in a while.
I think Nile’s interesting bc despite what he goes through, he’s actually very levelheaded and calm about it most of the time. I think he’s a very logical person and able to kinda see a lot of situations two steps ahead already, so he’s able to keep cool (for the most part) in the present. I think there’s a lot you could do with that there. I think the most obvious one is the emotional repression angle, where he’s almost too far ahead to the point where he’s not really letting himself feel in the moment. Like, he’s surprisingly chill about Kyoya’s outburst and split off from the group in fury considering how close they are, and he justifies that knowing that that’s just the kind of person Kyoya is and he wouldn’t expect him to stay tied down to something for long, and yet there’s still something about it that makes his stomach turn. He knows Kyoya’s a free spirit and not necessarily the friendliest person, so this isn’t really that out of character for him, yet part of him still wanted Kyoya to consider him a little more. For how close he thought the two were, they weren’t really getting much time together, and now with this, it only made him feel less secure about their bond. It’s kind of a feeling of his rationalism clashing with his own feelings and attachments, yk?
Another route I actually remembered I have thought a bit about before is how much Nile worries over Kyoya. Nile cares for Kyoya a ton, more than Kyoya probably even realizes, but he also knows that Kyoya has NO sense of self preservation and just wishes he would stop being so goddamn stubborn and reckless all the time. This thought is kinda inspired by wild fang vs gan gan galaxy, where Kyoya is super beat up and in no shape to battle after his battle with Gingka, yet still insists on going out there, despite Nile’s protests. Again, Nile kinda just accepts this as part of Kyoya’s character, but it worries him so much. I can definitely see and argument breaking out about that, and I think it could be interesting if Nile argued in this case that it’s selfish of Kyoya to be so reckless because of how much it disregards everyone else around him. It’s selfish because every time he does it, Nile is worried sick about what might happen to him, and he doesn’t even take the time to think about how his actions are causing that and considering anyone’s feelings besides his own. Like, not to pull out the “Why can’t you take care of yourself, if not for yourself then for me?” right now but like basically that. I’ve thought about this idea more lightheartedly before (I have an old ass doodle somewhere of Nile bandaging Kyoya up while the two yell at each other, ala “THIS IS STUPID IM FINE CHRIST THAT HURTS” “WELL MAYBE IF YOU WERENT GOING AROUND OVEREXERTING YOURSELF AND THROWING YOURSELF INTO TORNADOES, NEITHER OF US WOULD BE IN THIS SITUATION”) but I think it’s a very easy concept to make more angsty if you add more heartache into it.
Nile in general strikes me as the kind of independent but lonely type. In my head at least, he has a kind of duality between being fine on his own, and even preferring it at most points, but so desperately craving human connection and care. I think that’s part of what lets he and Kyoya get along so well in the first place, both are very free spirited and independent, but are able to understand each other and mesh more comfortably because of that. And with that, since there is a degree of yearning and relishing in that connection once he gets it, it’s only all the more confusing and painful once it’s called into question. Him kinda being under the impression that their relationship was something they both enjoyed more than being complete loners most of the time, yet he’s so willing to separate and say he doesn’t need anyone at all. Nile kinda figured they both needed each other a bit, so it’s strange realizing that may have been more one sided than he initially realized.

I've seen it argued that Ultima lacks empathy, and that this is what hinders him from grasping how humanity connects and cares for one another, but I think the nature of this beast is a bit more sinister than that.
Some fairly significant spoilers ahead...
My conclusion is that Ultima is in reality better understood as a dark empath--that is, one who can understand feelings and what motivates people extremely well, but does not share in the experience. Instead, the dark empath will typically use their razor-sharp cognition of others' feelings to manipulate them.
Here's a reference.
Tumblr media
This is especially evident in scenes where Ultima appears to the characters as dead loved ones whose memory tends to evoke some intense guilt, longing, grief, and passion. The scene where Clive faces "himself" and falls to his knees before the flame-engulfed figure of Joshua as he last had known him up to that point, filled to brimming with sorrow, is one example. The notorious scene with Barnabas where Ultima role-plays as Benedikta, Hugo, and Barnabas' mother is another.
Ultima's colorful language about humans bolstering one another's usually weak wills by weaving together their consciousness reveals that he understands how a good support system works, and he further spells out the exact nature of those bonds--love, trust--in the aforementioned scene with Barnabas.
(Barnabas himself seems to rely on Ultima as a surrogate social support system, which...sure is a choice, and not one I'm entirely certain he can be wholly blamed for, as the latter end of the game is awash in context clues that he was more or less groomed to that end.)
And thus, Ultima's goal in attempting to cut the threads of consciousness (bonds) supporting Clive is to produce such a profoundly overwhelming state of grief in him that he can't recover from or cope with it, and sees no more reason to keep trying. With his own personal concept of meaning so thoroughly severed--ailing under the sense that even as he breathes, his life is truly over--Clive would theoretically become much more willing to be the 'Mythos' vessel that Ultima wants him to be.
And THAT is...too much...to scheme without any kind of empathy, and because it's too much, it really just underlines the severe extent of the ice-cold contempt Ultima has for humanity. He understands them, but he has always had but one use for making them, and resents the living piss out of them for evolving in a way that throws a wrench into his plans while he was hibernating.
He understands them, but is too entrenched in his own fear, hypocrisy, megalomania, and denial for that to produce any kind of *emotional* empathy--it's 100% cognitive.
As an aside, I have to argue with Clive's late-game insistence that Ultima's never suffered. The combination of fear, control freakishness, and self-isolation Ultima is revealed to have and practice don't typically tend to arise uninspired. It's quite possibly self-inflicted--being a little "g" god who's erroneously convinced himself he's the big "G" and can therefore tell reality how to work will do that--but I do believe it's more likely than not that Ultima has, in their milennia-long life, known a great deal of suffering. All that intricate, surgical understanding of how to produce more angst and suffering from individual to individual has to come from somewhere, and "he created them" doesn't quite make the cut because humanity evolved and awoke absent his guidance.

4 for the ask meme??? I desire all your thoughts. require them even. and a glimpse into your wips. 👁️
okay. deep breaths. i will not throw my phone out the window because tumblr crashed this ask and deleted everything i had written. anyway.
i have a LOT of wip ideas but the most active wip i have in my head at the moment is sunrise, and i have a couple things planned at the moment.
1. this is a xiaoge pov fic, with a mixture of third and second person pov (third for past/present, second for behind the rift). i keep trying to write it and stopping because it’s such uncharted territory for me and i want it to be PERFECT but i know i shouldn’t be so intense about it……..but also i want it to be exactly how i have imagined it in my head. here’s what i have so far:
Tumblr media
2. this is a xiaosanjiao fic, with two main focuses: one, how wu xie in this verse is specifically callous and cruel towards li cu while also trying to maintain his innocence, the only reason he has any use for him, and two, the way li cu only survives because he is loved. i’ve got a lot of thoughts about prototypal anchor bonds and they are quite literally the case study for it—especially when you consider that their bond is basically comparable to the iron triangle’s. what can i say, sha hai took me out back and shot me with that metaphor and now i can’t let it rest.
now onwards and inwards towards my notes app, where lieth the beasts who dwell in waiting (wips i would like to get to some day but which have lower priority). there’s a lot of these so they’re going below the cut.
1. iron triangle time loop fic. i love a good time loop i love when things hurt and people have to watch their loved ones die. for a change of pace it would be pangzi who remembers the loops. because i like to torture the characters i love.
2. xiaoge taking pangzi and wu xie to visit baima’s grave. i just………have a lot of feelings about graves and how xiaoge only knew her for three days and how she wasn’t even really conscious and how despite that it was clearly an incredibly meaningful thing to him. also i think xiaoge would want the men he loves to meet the woman who loved him, even if they’re separated inescapably by time and distance.
3. silly fake marriage fic that hinges on that stupid marriage chair of fo ye’s (okay that’s not what it is and that’s not what happened but allow me to jest for a moment. to joke.). this is 100% self indulgent and ignoring any real world implications etc etc so the likelihood of it getting written ever is vanishingly low (i cannot stop thinking about Implications, alas), but hey, it’s a fun concept.
4. technically i wrote this but i would love to revisit it: dæmon au where xiaoge’s dæmon isn’t able to cross over the bronze gate with him and instead is left comatose in the real world and the only true indication that wu xie and pangzi have that xiaoge is still alive. i think initially when i thought of it my plan was for wu xie to care for them, but i’ve since decided that he would probably entrust that to pangzi, both because that’s safer, and because he doesn’t trust himself with the task.
5. pangzi in a qipao as a disguise for some fancy party they’re infiltrating for whatever reason. do i need to explain this further. alternatively a mundane au where pangzi is a model.
6. au where wu xie’s hatred and disgust and fear of what he’s turning himself into physically alters him into being visibly “monstrous” and it doesn’t go away after everything and he tries to hide it because he’s terrified of how pangzi and xiaoge will react if they find out. heavily inspired by this one comic i saw about a character hiding in a bathtub behind the curtain because they turned into their monstrous form and can’t remember how to turn back, and then the other person gets into the bathtub and holds their hand and shows them a photo of some happy moment and tells them it’s okay, they’ll wait. yeah. also vague allegories for bipolar onset because i have exactly three dead horses and i’m not going to stop beating them.
7. wu xie with glasses. listen. look at me. the glasses agenda must be advanced.
8. boyfriend item thief xiaoge. sweaters. food. that one blanket pangzi could have sworn he left on the sofa. hearts. etc.
9. technically i kind of wrote this a bit with “hearts’ keep” but a fic where li cu and wu xie keep running into each other and li cu is horribly reminded repeatedly of the ways that people keep drawing parallels between him and su wan and yang hao and the iron triangle. i just want to write about complicated relationships and the horrifying knowledge that you are in love with your best friends you know?
okay that’s it i THINK. or at least everything that’s more than just three words and no context/scribbling that got incorporated into other things.

While I was gathering the High School USA gifs, I couldn't help imagining scenarios where Marty, APK, and JJ are all interacting with each other. Idk if it would be a case of "identical strangers" or alternate timeline versions, but it would be fun. Especially with Marty and JJ! The many similarities and slight contrasts between them could make for some interesting stuff. In particular...
The fact that both of them don't exactly have happy home lives (at least not original timeline Marty). George and Lorraine, while physically present in Marty's life, aren't emotionally there and have their respective issues going on. Meanwhile, JJ's parents aren't physically or emotionally there. His character is alone in an empty house most of the time (I can't remember why--I think his parents travel a lot?), and they dont seem to really care much about him, so he's kind of raising himself without any real parental support system. [EDIT: I went back to check. JJ's father is always traveling, and JJ never knows when he's coming home. He hasn't seen his mother since he was 2 years old.]
They both have nerdy, science-loving best friends! Marty has Doc, obviously, and JJ has Otto, whose main storyline involves his quest to build this huge robot that mostly just ends up walking around and destroying things; it's great.
Tumblr media
↑ Otto, in his very first scene meant to clearly convey, "Hey, this guy is a nerd." Look at all that sciencey stuff. He even has a framed picture of Albert Einstein!
Speaking of nerds, JJ is also one. Except, he's not the smart kind; he's the "outcast, class-clown" kind. JJ is just not considered cool by his peers, especially since his social circle mainly consists of other outcasts and "weirdos." Now, I don't think Marty is quite that ostracized by his own peers--he does dress cool, has a band, and skateboards--but I've never pictured Marty as being part of the in-crowd. His personality (sweet, sensitive, low self-esteem, etc) and the fact that his best friend is a widely disliked/rumored to be dangerous and crazy scientist probably puts Marty more on the fringes of most social groups rather than in any popular crowds. This is another thing they'd be able to relate to each other on.
Also! Perhaps my favorite thing would be just...sticking them in a room and watching them attempt to converse or attend to anything for longer than 5 seconds because. JJ is every bit as adhd as Marty is. Like. JJ is all over the place. He's late for school all the time like Marty is and basically lives in the principal's office because he's time-blind and scattered and always goofing off. One of my favorite scenes (and what spurred this whole concept) is where JJ has been sent to the office because he's in trouble again, and through the whole scene, JJ is just touching everything on the principal's desk as he talks. So as he keeps reaching for things, the principal keeps having to grab them back and move them to a place JJ can't get to until there's nothing left on the desk. And the whole scene is played like they do this every single time and the principal is so tired of it. [I think I'll gif this scene hmm]. Anyway! It got me thinking, "Wouldn't it be fun to stick these two in a situation together and watch them literally not be able to stay still or remain on a singular topic for more than 2 seconds."
Now, for a slight contrast: JJ loves Hawaiian shirts. Aside from the very last scene of the movie, where he wears a tuxedo, he's in Hawaiian shirts for the entire film. Not Marty's taste, clothing-wise, BUT! He does happen to have Doc, who is also a Hawaiian shirt aficionado. They can bond over that.
Additionally, a thing I find hilarious: the Crispin Glover Factor. I've neglected Alex P. Keaton in the scenario thus far, but this is a spot where I'd love to throw him into the mix since Crispin is in BTTF, Family Ties, and High School USA. And I just can't get over an imagined scene where, not only are JJ, Alex, and Marty weirded out by their own identical faces, but they realize they also all have this Other Person in their lives who shares the strange predicament. Like, maybe one of them has a picture or something and Marty's like, "Hey, that's my dad when he was younger" and Alex goes, "Um, no, that's my friend Doug," and JJ is all, "?? What? That's my buddy Archie." And it leaves them all so confused because, as far as they can tell, they don't have any other look-alikes that they share in their lives. It's just themselves and for some reason Crispin Glover. Weird.
So, yeah, thanks for coming to my rambling, everyone.

The Owl House Crack AU: New Life, Old Scales
(There was a blackout all day on my neighborhood and I wrote this while at work to stay sane, so get ready for a long rambling)
Okay hear me out, The Owl House... but Camila is a basilisk who managed to escape decades ago, as one of Belos first experiments with the species.
Story points:
She got to the human real through one of Eda's escapades and disguised herself as a teen who was moving out of town. For the first years, she lived on a shelter (and luckly didn't stood out due to there being a couple of nutjobs), made some friends there and occasionaly went out looking for magical objects to keep her disguise.
One of said friends got her into night school with the promise of a better life, and that's where she met Manny, who was there teaching spanish. They started dating weeks after, bonding over their shared love for the language and Manny's passion for Cosmic Frontier (needless to say that she enjoyed the concept of "cosplaying").
At some point, Manny managed to get her some documents thanks to a cousin that worked at the customs office, allowing her to enter high school and later get into university. They invented a backstory where Camila was the last survivor of a family dispute on the Dominican Republic, only to move to the US with the last money she had from her parents.
After Camila's high school graduation, she accidentaly got drunk during a party, and revealed her true identity to him on a walk through the forest, where Manny ran off and she blacked out near some bushes. She went to look for him the next day, and after a heartfelt discussion, they broke up. He would later move to Pennsylvania, where he would study ---
Camila's years through university went calmly, getting a couple of part time jobs, a shared bedroom alongside a weird man obsesed with witches, and later recieved her diploma.
At some point, Manny moved back in town after a failed marriage and both of them reconected quickly, going back to practise cosplay and even visiting Puerto Rico to meet his parents. They got married and bought a home (not in Gravesfield).
A couple of years later, Luz would come into their lives from Manny's last marriage, who didn't wanted to have a child. From there on there's no change in the canon, they lived as a family, moved to Gravesfield, Manny passed away and Luz went to the Boiling Isles.
When Vee came through the portal and morphed into Luz, Camila felt something odd, but after being away from the BI for decades, she just brushed it off. It wouldn't be until a week or so after she came back from camp where the oddities piled up and she discovered Vee's true identity. After confronting the fellow basilisk and learning her story, she offered her a home and allowed her to replace Luz until they discovered what happened.
Yesterday's Lie would go different, with Luz learning about both Vee and Camila's secret, who would still end up slapping Jacob in the face with her Chancla btw.
Notes:
Camila would be the same subspecies as Vee, a Knee Dweling basilisk. Their main characteristics would be their rounder heads, furred ears, puffier manes, eyes, ticker tails to store extra fat and being overall the smallest of the entire species.
She would've most likely known the basilisk who attacked Hexside during The First Day.
I'm deciding on whether or not Camila befriended teenage Eda and the last one offered her a ticket to the human realm. She could've also met a previous Golden Guard who would've helped her scape in the first place, and thus would recognise Hunter very quickly.
Most of the cosplay stuff is from Manny, since she just shapeshifted into whichever character she wanted. Needless to say, she won a lot of competitions.
She became a veterinarian to help out other creatures and to learn self care, as basiliks share a ton with Earth reptiles.
She most likely influenced Luz's love for snakes.
I like to think that after meeting Vee for who she really is, Camila started to walk around the house in her natural form, contempt with not needing to hide her true nature. The only one who she did that with would've been Manny, during the period after their reconnection and before Luz.
Even though the camp helped Vee a lot to blend in, it would be Camila the one who truly get her to do so. Maybe even contact Manny's cousin to get her some papers too.
The angst would double for Luz after either Yesterday's Lie or King's Tide, seeing her mother getting along with Vee very easily and feeling even more like an outcast.
So, what do y'all think? Should I try to make something out of this or should I seek profesional help? Either way, I'm not sharing the good stuff.

How do you think Ron power should be handled had the show continued?
In fanfiction I’ve seen that aspect been handled in three ways:
A) Ron becomes more confident and self assured if a little boastful
B)Ron becomes arrogant
C) is simply ignored to preserve the status quo
I was never a fan of the mystical monkey power storyline, but there is no denying that is an interchangeable aspect of Ron’s character that can’t be easily swept under the rug.
I like the idea of Ron becoming more competent and confident. But if handles incorrectly I can also view his new powers becoming some sort of power creep, at least we know Ron is a grounded and calm person by nature and I don’t believe he would get big-headedness anymore, those few moments were signs of insecurity and not true arrogance and I think his character developed beyond that.
It got me thinking: Would Ron character change after what happened in graduation? Would he become more self-assured? Or would that event make him become more careful with powers? Could that change the way he sees himself? Or change the dynamics of the team?
I’ve seen this concepts rarely ever get explored in fanfiction, what do you think? If the show had continued how would you have liked to see the show or on fanfiction handle Ron’s powers?
i'll assume both asks were you since they're almost identical, so i'm just gonna answer this one.
what i have seen in post-grad fanfic regarding the mystic monkey powers is usually either 1) ron is afraid of the power because he killed the lorwardians; afraid he might get "out of control" again, afraid he'll hurt ppl he loves... or 2) the power indeed takes hold of him like an insanity and he becomes a villain and we don't even get to see much struggle about it. lots of angst, not my thing... that is, while angst is my thing, with ron both of those angles seem out of character.
now ron having a casual arrogance... he does that in ron the man, ron millionaire, less so in naked genius... but you get the point. a little casual arrogance from some false sense of grandeur IS in fact, in character for ron. so that angle wouldn't bother me.
not really reading anything besides drakgo fanfic, i really wouldn't know though 😅 that's just what i've seen in the past when i did glance around. none of that fic ever quite grabs me though.
since the events of graduation seemed to be ron coming into his own with the powers and actually HAVING the control, since prior manifestations of his power seem to be random... he'd show sudden awesome fighting skill and confidence almost subconsciously at various points throughout the entire series, for example... yeah i think that post-grad he'd be far more in sync with himself? able to use the monkey kung fu consciously and confidently. i can imagine he and kim fighting a foe and ron starting to do his typical running and hiding and then being like, wait a sec, and turning and fighting. maybe asking kim if she feels that cool all the time, and how does she just know instinctively what to do, and how awesome it is... they could bond now over both being martial arts masters, haha. and i think he'd only call upon the mystical blue stuff in very dire need like against the lorwardians. but i think he'd be in full control, full awareness... that's most in character for ron, you know? and i like things to stay in character.
that's how i feel about it both character-wise, and show-wise... had the show had a fifth college season or something for example, the mystic monkey power is sort of a uh... deus ex machina? like the battlesuit, which is why it was always on the fritz in S4. there's no threat if he's always using the powers or kim always has the battlesuit, so yeah. but i think he'd be in full control anyway due to like i said, graduation was about him coming into his own finally. to backpedal from that would just...kinda negate that character development. so probably they just wouldn't face foes where that sort of thing is necessary, if we think about it from the practical cartoon storytelling standpoint.
i don't think it changes their team dynamic anymore than just allowing ron to fight more confidently at kim's side. they still are who they are, and to...drastically change something means we're no longer watching Kim Possible as we love it. so...yeah. i hope that answers the question and makes sense. thanks for the ask!

[tv review] star trek: lower decks, season 1 (2020)
Tumblr media
like a lot of star trek fans, i was pretty skeptical about this show going into it. the animation style screamed “family guy,” and there is quite a bit of rick and morty in the show’s dna. like, for instance, series creator and showrunner mike mcmahan was one of the first writers hired for rick and morty and served as its showrunner for a season.
one thing that did reassure me at the time and made me more willing to give the show the benefit of the doubt is that mcmahan was the self-professed “scifi guy” of the rick and morty crew. considering that the show’s inclusion of actual, interesting scifi concepts was one of the things i did actually like about it when i watched it, that was a promising sign.
anyway, yeah, saying i was “pleasantly surprised” by this show feels like a massive understatement. pleasantly shocked? pleasantly astonished? whatever you want to call it. i held on to a lot of my skepticism early on, but it didn’t take long before i fell head over heels for the show. i distinctly remember turning to my fiancx after one episode and nervously broaching, “soooo… this is actually really good, right? i’m not crazy?” and being relieved that ve was thinking the same thing. i was actually kinda genuinely sad when lower decks passed the baton back to discovery for their third season, though i felt pretty dumb about that when discovery went into beast mode that season.
so, yeah. the animated comedy star trek show is actually extremely good, and clearly made with star trek fans first and foremost in mind. i think what really caught me by surprise was how much heart it has. it tells good stories while also having great jokes basically constantly, and despite the comedic tone it genuinely believes in and cares about its characters.
wait. i've got it. the one sentence i would say to other star trek fans to respond to their (understandable) misgivings. this isn't rick and morty, this is futurama.
the first season was a lot about establishing the show’s identity and getting fans onboard with it, so i probably won’t have as much to say in my episode reviews of this one as i do of other star trek shows. a lot of it was working towards making it the show i described in the preceding paragraphs, and putting all those pieces together and establishing everything took a lot of time. so these will be more like capsules with my rating for the episode attached than actual reviews.
1x01 “second contact”
the only reason this isn’t the best star trek pilot is because we live in a post-strange new worlds world. okay, actually, “emissary” is pretty great, too. i’ll have to see how they stack up against each other when we get to that one. a-rank
1x02 “envoys”
the sequence where rutheford is trying out different departments is rather silly conceptually but i freaking love how supportive and enthusiastic everyone is. i think that really went a long way towards breaking the ice for me. a-rank
1x03 “temporal edict”
mariner and ransom butting heads was actually very well done, and ransom shows that while he might be a himbo and a bit of a gloryhound he does genuinely care. a-rank
1x04 “moist vessel”
mariner hating being promoted and boimler just shaking with rage over the whole thing was the best thing ever. a-rank
1x05 “cupid’s errant arrow”
the best friend and girlfriend both being suspicious of each other and protective of their boy was adorable, and waiting until nearly the end of the episode to reveal that the girlfriend was doing it too and having them bond over it was a great choice. having boimler be the one who had something wrong with him all along was also a nice touch.
also i freaking loved captain freeman finding out that the last domino in the demolition of a moon was that it would inconvenience a rich guy, and she was just immediately like “blow up the damn moon.” like, zero hesitation. that was awesome. a-rank
1x06 “terminal provocations”
cannot believe they added the third chu to make it the chu chu chu dance. incredible. a-rank
1x07 “much ado about boimler”
the show’s creative team is apparently a bit remorseful that they didn’t make it more explicit that mariner and ramsey are exes, and honestly that does make a huge difference for me. like this episode is already super good, but i think if they had been more upfront about that it could’ve pretty easily been the show’s first s-rank. a-rank
1x08 “veritas”
i fucking love this episode it is probably the moment when i relaxed and allowed myself to believe that this show was probably just actually as good as it seemed like it was.
the “trial” is a great framing device, the misunderstandings on top of misunderstandings are hilarious, and i really love how earnestly our main characters gush about how awesome starfleet is even though it’s because of a huge misunderstanding. a-rank
1x09 “crisis point”
mariner forces her friends to participate in a holodeck pastiche of wrath of khan that has a ton of wonderful references to the tos movies, it genuinely gets kinda epic, and although she’s avoiding therapy with the milquetoast ship’s counselor she ends up getting accidentally therapied by the experience. meanwhile, boimler accidentally learns that mariner is the captain’s daughter so that’s obviously gonna be a whole thing. a-rank
1x10 “no small parts”
there are a lot of things to love about this show in general, and this episode in particular, but i think the one i’m going to single out is the first canon appearance of captain william t. riker in command of the u.s.s. titan. i think i shrieked with joy at that the first time i saw this episode. s-rank

random question: do you think there could ever be an instance of moon girl being 'corrupted'? in a small, tiny dimension far away, could evil hakunon ever exist?
good question nonnie! an evil hakunon... what a concept 👀✨️ it's interesting because i think hakuno definitely fits the definition of a "good person". she has a very clear sense of right and wrong, strong morals, she greatly values the lives and wishes of others (no matter how "small" or "insignificant") and treasures the very important things like bonds and connections. i'd say it's almost like the natural course of her character development! in extra and ccc and even extella 🤢 even when starting out from zero as a nobody with nothing, we see that hakuno always finds these core values and humanity even in the worst circumstances.
that saiddd, did you know that hakuno herself admits to having pretty "twisted ideals" in the confrontation with extra's endgame antagonist? and she's always been the one to outright call herself evil too! for a good reason too actually 😳
here's a quick disclaimer though! i personally think hakuno's a very complex character that can be interpreted in many ways though i do know a big reason for that is also bc there are cowards who intend for that to be for self insert purposes rather than anything more nuanced 🗿, so this here's just my personal interpretation of her <3 this also got pretty long so i'll be putting the rest under the cut!
[side note, but i think it's Really Interesting to me how the fate/extra antagonists really parallel hakuno..... there was a scrapped extra ending of hakuno basically taking over as the second twice (though i will say i'm glad that idea was scrapped; cuz hakuno's already too far into her development for that to be a possibility but it's interesting to think about). as for bb-- oh man i can scream about the Potential these two have sm THEY'RE JUST SO GOOD UGH 😭😭 summing it up real quick, they're both just someone willing to give their all and become a hero/villain if that meant protecting the one they love. the former for hakuno and the latter for bb ! even kiara has similarities to hakuno, i don't know how much (due to lack of ccc translations </3) but i do know that they were simply living to their truest selves which had varying results]
i think these lines sum up her stance of things pretty nicely (they also reside in my head rent free 24/7 🛐) and really give you a good Insight(TM) on hakuno kishinami:
"If I could protect that which I hold most dear, then that should dictate the path I choose to walk."
"Hakuno Kishinami was someone who treasured herself, and the things she loved. The things I insist I want to protect are only those I see before me. …that’s the sort of shallow, greedy person Hakuno Kishinami was."
"I was just empty in the beginning, so if you say you're bad— then I will just dye myself in your colors."
it's safe to say that at her core, the most unbendable thing is that hakuno cares most about the people she loves, that's the key takeaway here thougg we also have other important hakuno traits like her lack of identity and her extreme devotion. i talked about this character trait of hers a widdle bit in this post, but yeah- for all her heroic qualities, traditionally heroic things like saving the world doesn't take priority for her.
hakuno's very direct when she says it in canon too. the state of the world has nothing to do with her (which is the cold rational truth considering her unique existence, to be fair), but she still wants to protect it because it's the world where the people she cares about live in; and that's the primary motivation for her. though i do think we have to take things with a grain of salt, because as harsh as her blunt words can sound, we can see from her reactions and inner monologue that just the thought of people dying is painful to her. so i think it's important to know that even if hakuno's first priority is the people close to her, she does think about others as well, i'd say that hakuno cares for just about anyone and everyone in some capacity. it's just that much stronger with someone she's emotionally bonded with.
now, hakuno genuinely is someone so kindhearted with only good intentions... which is a very important point 2 me!! she's not the type to damn the world for no reason and naturally dislikes the idea of anyone suffering. however, she can be scary determined to do what she must to accomplish her goal. it's only when push comes to shove and she's forced to make a choice where we'd really see this come into play methinks! we're entertaining what-ifs here and personally, i can really see hakuno take on a more,, morally questionable role ngl. hakuno's always acted in the way you'd expect a model person to be, but i think it's important to note that that comes out of her own personal values rather than a sense of justice or any chivalrous reasoning.
hakuno does want and try to operate within the scope of what is "good", but she wouldn't limit herself to it, if that makes sense. i'm not sure how to describe her morals, exactly, but hohhh boy it's super interesting to me! she's good at heart, but is willing to do something she views as evil if it meant the best for -insert name here- so when hakuno calls herself evil, it's because she has very clear and strong morals and a strong sense of good or evil, but at the end of the day, she's willing to discard anything and devote her everything to the things she loves.
that willingness to cross any line and discard her own morals, by definition, is immoral though. hakuno never does things without full awareness of her actions and the consequences that come with it, so she'd definitely be more than aware of that too. i think foxtail, which has that third line there "[...] so if you say you're bad— then I will just dye myself in your colors.", illustrates it so well..... it literally has hakuno staining herself with blood as she says that which- what more can i say!! it's just that undying devotion above all else <3 i have no doubt that she would be having a lot of complex feelings about it :uglycry:
i mentioned before that hakuno calls herself evil already, but it's best not to take her words at face value. she's a lot more complex than that!! she's a lot more complex than what even she gives herself credit for honestly!!!!! you gotta remember that even if hakuno seems cold/distant and claims to be a terrible person, she's repeatedly shown that she still cares about others no matter what and wants them to be happy. it's just that, again, she's willing to do a lot of things for that which is most important to her 💃🏻 tis just a matter of circumstance and priorities.... but yeah ! no matter the tiny universe, at her core she's still the same hakuno doing what she sincerely believes in and for what's most important to her.
it's very in line with hakuno actually! provided the proper circumstances, i can really see it happening 😳 we've seen hakuno in canon call herself "a failure as a master" because she cares more for her servant than the holy grail, so i can see her similarly condemn herself for prioritizing the well-being of an individual over,, literally everything else. i imagine it playing out like her choice to do what was necessary to survive in the holy grail war. she's absolutely firm in chasing after her goal, it's a decision she won't back out on, but she has a lot of difficult feelings about it too. it's not at all easy for her, and it would just add onto her already horrendous view of herself and her self-loathing :,)
I FEEL LIKE I DIDN'T REALLY ANSWER YOUR QUESTION .... 😳 but i think there's no easy answer to it tbh! hakuno has a tendency of simplifying things (for better or worse) but i think things are much more complex than that. so whether she's evil or good, that really depends on what we choose to think,,, if that makes sense,,, 🫠
as for a "corrupted" hakuno-- i'm not really sure what you mean by that?? if you're still out there nonnie 🥺 pls feel free to clarify! <3 i'm a fake fate writer lol so if it's corruption from the holy grail or something, then i have no idea how to answer because nasu lore eludes me 🗿 but i don't think that would be the case! hakuno's character is definitely influenced by others around her, but she's always the one actively trying to find and better understand herself and a reason to fight for. part of what makes her compelling is her immense resolve to do what she fully believes in — which is why all i've rambled about above there. knowing the full weight of her actions and her feelings about it is what makes hakuno so compelling imo!!
OUGHHH BUT (me, coming back after googling up the exact definition of corruption: 🤯) if we look at this in the scope of canon, this is a form of corruption actually ?? !!! remember: love was never intended and is actually mistaken for artificial intelligence made by the moon cell like bb and hakuno (: to go against their intended purpose of serving humanity as a whole in favor of an individual they've come to love is peak "corruption" for them, but we've seen how they both rather go against anything and everything rather than lose that precious feeling. I WISH THEY FOCUSED ON THAT CONCEPT IN CANON TBH 😭😭 JUST IMAGINE!!!! i wish they focused more on hakuno in general tbh </3

Changes/ things in season 3 that I disliked
the positive season 3 post I made  if you would like to read that as well or instead I will be adding both to that post and this one when part 2 comes out
no im not going to talk about the goddamn costumes, everybody has, I agree and im sick of seeing it  they look cheap and  bad, they need more color they need to look somewhat period appropriate, moving on
We got alot of amazing bonding moments with Ciri and Yennefer but I wish they would have kept the scene where she saved Ciri from the Wild Hunt.  We already got lots of Geralt Ciri bonding moments, we needed as much stuff with Yen being Ciri`s mother as we could possibly get and that was one of the best scenes,
(side note of the stuff we did get while I appreciated and “ my ugly one” scene it felt very random and out of place  especially with how dolled up they made Freya look, she didnt need to have any makeup on I would have liked to see her more tomboyish look from the books)
TWN usually knocks casting out of the park but Robbie Amell  as Gallatin felt so out of place with his acting and trying to hide his accent, and much like the problem with blood origin looks nothing like the other elves and his scar is barley noticeable
I knew he was going to die from when I heard they were going to use an original character instead of  Isengrim or   Iorweth they really did learn from the  Eskel incident. while I didn't like his character his death leads to some amazing character stuff with  Cahir, grappling with his sense of self and loyalty to Emhyr  since they need to have another reason why he changes sides later because of the age gap between him an Ciri in this version
Dijkstra here just doesn't feel like Dijkstra
normally I don't really care if a character doesn't look  exactly like their book counterpart, but    Dijkstra being a huge imposing pigish man is part of his character,   Graham McTavish isn't doing a bad job, there are a few good scenes and he has good chemistry with Cassie`s Philippa but he just doesn't have the right sarcasm,  snark and attitude for the character, even their dynamic is off they’re equally stubborn, arrogant, conniving, and equally think they’re the one dominating the other , book and game  Dijkstra stole every scene he was in and was one of my favorite characters this version is mostly boring
( sidenote but I didnt mind the whipping scene it was clearly not meant to be sexual or that they are in a sexual bdsm  relationship but that Dijkstra is a   Flagellant and that its a stress coping mechanism they engage in as they must trust each other in the underground world)
Tissaia and  Vilgefortz being lovers and  Tissaia`s seemingly ooc behavior
now to be fair with the intrigue aspect of this season I think they might do a bait and switch with this either  Tissaia Is acting this way to lead him on and try to stop him, or  Vilgefortz has control over Tissaia in some way ( he is arguabley the most powerful mage in the world even if she also is)
either that or they put them together so it makes more sense for her to side with him/ Nilfgaardian since they established her as much more an active in this version and not just someone wanting to remain “neutral” like in the books
I just hope that her “ending” has as much impact as it should considering what an important character they made her
Episode 5 is a mixed bag
while there were definitely things that I loved about this episode like the tender  yenralt moments and the use of dialog from the book, as well as the concept of the framing device from the book, but it got way too repetitive in parts, the Valdo song was fun but it overstays its welcome
this episode reminds me of the Leverage episode  “ The Rashomon Job“ while that episode changed things things up every time it went back and told the story from another characters point of view this one doesn't do anything all that creative with it, and your stuck watching a bit of the same exact  scenes over and over again with slightly more information
I imagine this episode will work better when the full season out and we see what its all building up to
and I said I wouldn't  mention the costumes but, the ball was the one time the consumes had to be really stunning, where is all the color, its so dull looking, why do they look like they are doing a red carpet event in the 90s
and I didn't  think it was possible to make Anya look anything less than stunning but this is by far Yennefer’s worst look, it bothered me more than any other visual in the season, nothing works about it, shes supposed to be in a gown with her hair down but she look like a cross between a taky 70s Cher impersonator and a low budget bollywood star
( can some one please draw the TWN actresses in what they are described as wearing in the book like Keira in the green tulle top, Sabrina in the black chiffon blouse and a crimson skirt or Philippa dress lined with diamonds and ermine fur, I will commission you  )
the  casting of  Margarita Laux-Antille completely backfires due to how they wrote her character
Casting a plus sized black woman as a character that is described as white, and extremally conventionally attractive, to spite the gamer dudebros, is a move I like to be clear I love the diversity this show has given us  incredible actresses like Anya and  Anna and Mimi that in past years would have been looked over
but unfortunately they make her character conform to the “ angry black woman stereotype” and hit Ciri despite her character in the books who could be described  as “sweet” and “the cool teacher”   hopefully we will see her  character more like the books with the lodge in the second half of the season
and just general “sins of the father” stuff that is from the books but isn't given proper context for show only fans to understand
like the discussion about aelirenn leaving out that older elves are infertile, or    many things about Aplegatt and his role in the story, the “ my ugly one” line feeling really out of place im sure there is more but thats all I can remember for now,

The Kurumada x Alice rant
Spoilers for all of YTTD up to Chapter 3-B. It might be completely unintelligible but I have strong thoughts on these fictional characters.
I want to talk about Alice and Kurumada as a concept because although when I entered this fandom I legit had 0 ships in mind and didn't find most of the cast shippable, I am in love with these two as a pairing. But I wanna talk about them as characters and why they work so well.
Alice is a theatric man who has some degree of suspicion directed towards others and despite being a convicted murderer is also one of THE BEST people in the death game, morally. Like I love him he's just a good guy.
Kurumada is rough, and abrasive, and refuses to help when he thinks the dolls will die during the fight with Midori, but is also one of the first to actually turn around and reverse his side. He grabs Maple to kill her because he thinks he can- but also because he's protecting everyone else. If he really wanted to, he could've just killed Sou (or, in the other route, ESPECIALLY KANNA) and succeeded in his little mini game. His dialogue might lend credence to the idea that he would. But he's just a little guy that wants to help. When Ranmaru is about to die he offers to take the tag and die, knowing that Ranmaru has more to offer than him in his wounded state.
Him and Alice share violent tendencies and open aggression, with Kuru being more actually violent and Alice being more threatening in speech (Kuru really does just shake his fist at people by contrast). They're really similar, though. Big tough guys who are just softies on the inside, and I think that's why I find them so cute together. There are two ways it goes.
Or that's the space where they both sorta break down from their performance and share in actual feelings. Because they do both have them. We see Alice mourn his sister (even just when she breaks the Bongos)
Either they are perpetually postering to impress the other person which is an age old trope that i still find really funny,
and we see Kuru cry at the thought of the others being killed by Keiji (with the Midori plan).
Now there is one thing in particular I wanna highlight though, that makes this ship particularly compelling for me
In the logic route, as I'm sure most of you know, the remaining Yabasume sibling dies at the hands of a trap set by Ranmaru.
Tragedy
Who is the one to see this trap and report it?
Kurumada
If Kurumada and Alice were truly together, then Kurumada is the first one to witness him nearly dying. Kurumada is powerless to save him himself. He can hardly even walk anymore. There's a giant hole in his chest that may or may not kill him.
Kurumada has to suffer as he is unable to respond, and unable to save Alice, the others failing to get there in time.
Kurumada's actions, which have been entirely self-sacrificial up until this point, culminate as his own choice to try to kill Maple to save the others, end in his failure to save the person he has bonded the most with.
He has chosen others at the ultimate cost of himself.
Kurumada, if he is still alive, is the one to propose that the dolls are the ones placed in the coffins.
Kurumada gives up everything he has, and it is, in the logic route, simply not enough. And even when Alice lives- Kurumada's inability to prioritize himself leads instead to his own death
(Most likely)
AND BEAR IN MIND
IN HALF OF THE RUNS ALICE DIES BECAUSE HE CARED ABOUT REKO SO MUCH HE WAS ABOUT TO KILL RIO
HE WAS ABOUT TO 1V1 AN INHUMAN MURDER MACHINE OVER HIS SISTER
ALICE'S VERSION OF SELFLESSNESS IS NOT PROTECTION- IT IS VENGEANCE
WHEREAS KURU'S IS ALL ABOUT SACRIFICE
ANyway t
that's
why I think they balance each other out
And why I think they're a really sad pairing.
and alice has to watch as his roboyfriend gets turned into mincemeat when that wasn't even an established rule
guys even if you save alice kurumada still has a high chance to die and then he can also die first
and literal best case scenario where both of them live Kurumada still runs out of battery and they just get a tearful goodbye.
I just like them a lot.

A Place Further than the Universe (the rest of the episodes)
A Place Further Than the Universe is a heartwarming and inspiring anime series that follows four teenage girls on a journey of self-discovery and exploration. Through their experiences, the girls learn to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the world, as well as the importance of friendship and support. The show offers viewers an inspiring and uplifting story about the power of friendship and the strength of the human spirit.
I felt that the second half of this show really put emphasis on character development, both within each character and in the relationships that the characters formed with each other.
I especially loved the way that Shirase and Hinata’s relationship developed. Both girls were deeply struggling with things from their past, but together they were able to heal and protect each other. I loved how Shirase made a mistake, looking through Hinata’s email, but they were able to move forward as friends and work past it. This felt like a realistic situation that could happen, and I appreciate that the writers made these characters imperfect and capable of mistakes. But when Shirase started yelling on the broadcast at Hinata’s old friends, it really showed the way that she was able to come full circle as a character (from someone who couldn’t speak on camera at all) as well as the way their relationship developed (where Shirase was willing to face her own fears to protect Hinata).
Episode 12 was really beautiful, especially in the end when Shirase had that speech to her mom. It showed just how much she valued the other girls and the bond they shared. The scene left a lasting impression on me and showed that even in the most difficult of times, friendship and support can be a saving grace. I also loved when all the girls ran to find traces of Shirase's mom, it was smaller scenes like that which really showed how much they grew to care for each other over time. And when they found the picture of Shirase and her mom, it was such a heartbreaking and touching scene which was really beautiful to watch the girls experience that moment together. Watching Shirase cry as she opened her mom’s old computer and see all the emails she sent her over the years pop up, while the other girls cried and held each other outside the door really solidified how strong their relationship became with time.
I also loved the focus on dedication and perseverance throughout this piece. Not only with all the girls working to get to travel to Antarctica, but also the small glimpses of how much that journey meant, not just to the highschoolers, but to everyone. When Shirase first stepped foot on the ice and started screaming “in your face” it was a very powerful and touching scene that highlighted just how hard Shirase worked to get there. Another scene with a similar concept that really touched me was when she was counting all the money she saved up to travel to Antarctica, knowing exactly what job she worked to get each and every bill. I also loved getting glimpses of how much that journey meant to the other crew members, especially Gin.
Overall, Place Further Than the Universe is an amazing show that really touched me with its heartwarming story and characters. It showed how much you can accomplish if you have the courage to take a chance, and how much support and friendship can mean in life.

Biweekly Media Roundup
- Avatar: The Way of the Water (Movie) - My brother was hyped to see this so I went with him in my first theater going experience in a while. I’m not really qualified to talk about the problematic politics of the film, so personally my pros were stunning visual effects and environments, interesting alien designs and lore, and some fun whale bonding, while my cons were the dragged out length (especially in the extended whale hunting and ending action scene), mostly flat characterization, and some weird character decisions regarding the character “Spider” and the way people interact with him. I do think this was a bit better than the first one since the focus was on the alien characters and the Ocean tribe was a bit more interesting than the forest one, so I’m glad I saw it, though it’s more of a spectacle than a lasting experience. So uh in short I don’t care much for the story but I’d love to see the concept art designs.
- Glass Onion (Movie) - I’m not really sure what I expected from this but I liked it quite a bit. It kept me guessing on the mystery, I liked the protagonist, there's some fun dialogue, and who doesn’t appreciate a “fuck the rich” message. You don’t have to see the first one to watch it so if you’re in the mood for a fun mystery check it out. I don’t say this about most things but I’d be cool with this becoming a franchise, just Blanc solving various mystery’s and humiliating rich assholes in his funky little outfits.
- Chainsaw Man (Anime) - It’s so good to finally find another show that fits in with the flavor of weirdo casts as JJBA, Golden Kamuy, Dorohedoro and the like. I genuinely don’t know where the plot is going next which makes for a great watching experience, and so far I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much I like each new freak they introduce to the main cast. Makima still has my heart as the gaslight gatekeep girlboss that she is, and the Devil designs are really cool, I can’t wait for the season finale tonight.
- Spy X Family (Anime) - Definitely one of my favorite anime this year, super wholesome, lovable characters, great comedy and reaction faces, stunning animation, this show’s got it all. My one complaint is that some of the more over the top side characters really overstayed their welcome but for the most part the cast was very solid and I could definitely see myself doing a rewatch in the near future for some easy catharsis.
- Mob Psycho 100 (Anime) - The end of an Era, Mob is definitely one of my fave animes of all time and some of the best messaging and best written child characters I’ve ever seen, I’m going to miss it but I’m glad it stayed strong to the end and wrapped up in a thematically cohesive way. Cheesy as it is I believe that the excellent execution of Mob’s “deep rooted message of self acceptance and self worth that tears down the ideology that only ‘naturally talented’ people have a place in society and instead gives worth to everyone regardless of who they are because it is our impact on our fellow people and our ability to be a good person that truly matters” (as the Shrek meme says) has made me a happier person. 10/10 essential watching for all anime fans.
- Project Eden’s Garden (Video Game) - Several youtubers I like put out reviews and or/ playthroughs of this fanmade Danganronpa game, so I did a watch through of the prologue. It’s intriguing so far, I like a lot of the character designs and had fun trying to figure out their animal influences, and thought the writing was pretty solid for a setup. I’ll defenitely watch more when it comes out, Danganronpa isn’t for everyone but I always have fun trying to predict each cases victim/killer and I doubt this’ll change that.
- The S Classes That I Raised (TV) - Trying to resist the urge to just read the webnovel given how much joy I find in the weekly updates but I’m pretty into this one right now, very excited to see what new little creatures Han Yoojin will befriend.
- Sense8 (TV) - Started this old supernatural drama about 8 people living all over the world whose minds become psychically linked. It is very interesting to see the diverse stories set across various cultures and with 8 separate plots happening there’s always something interesting in each episode. I do wish there were less sex, like I’m not sex negative or anything but uh I’m here for the plot and there's just a lot of sex scenes that make watching it with my sibling a little awkward. My favorite stories so far are Nomis, Suns, and Capheus while Rileys and Wolfgangs are a little eh.
- Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (Webnovel) - I would fit right into the world of ORV because much like all the characters in it I cannot stop thinking about Kim Dokja and how badly I simultaneously want to punch him in the face and give him a hug. Stupid little rat boy.
I also watched Hook (movie), Predestination (movie), Groundhog Day (Movie), along with my normal amount of various youtube videos.
Listening to: Holy Water by Michael Ray, Hell’s Coming With Me by Poor Man’s Poison, Red Flags by Tom Cardy, Rasen by jon-YAKITORY, Waiting On A Miracle (Encanto OST), Soon You’ll Get Better, New Romantics, and Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift, I Really Wish I Hated You by Blink 182, Fallout by Marianas Trench, Shoutout to My Ex by Little Mix, Lent by Autoheart, Therefore You and Me by si-o, History Hates Lovers by Oublaire, Tot Musica by Ado

FMAB Analysis: female characters
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood gets praised pretty often for being one of the only shonen anime with actually good female characters, and I really wanted to talk about what that means to me personally. In general, I think the concept of ‘well-written’ or ‘strong’ female characters often gets watered down to meaning just “a woman who is good at fighting” or “a woman who doesn’t show many emotions or feminine traits”. So, I want to evaluate my personal definition of a ‘strong female character’ using FMAB ladies as examples. Let’s begin!
Winry Rockbell
Tumblr media
I wanted to start off by talking a bit about Winry! Something I love about Winry is that in the FMAB universe she’s just a normal girl. Well, as normal as a prodigy mechanic can be. Right off the bat, I absolutely love that this teenage girl is considered one of the best mechanics (which is typically considered a male dominated profession) in the whole show. That already is a subversion of gender roles that just feels pretty neat.
But going back to the fact that she’s a ‘normal girl’, Winry is not a fighter, and that is okay. She is a humble resident of Resembool and has no business getting into gun fights or alchemic battles the way Ed, Al, and the adult military officers do. And this aspect of her character leads to the very emotional scene where Ed tells Winry her hands are made for healing people, not hurting them. If Winry were the only female character in the show and she was told she shouldn’t fight people, that might be a problem. But fortunately, she is not! Which is a great transition into our next character.
Riza Hawkeye
Tumblr media
Riza, an incredible skilled marksman and sniper (another skill that could be considered traditionally ‘masculine’) is pretty stoic for the majority of the show, but when she shows emotion, she shows emotion. When the person she loves is in danger, she does not put on a brave front, she full on sobs and screams and reacts appropriately, which is great. She is proof that you do not need to suppress your emotions to be strong and competent.
(Also, her relationship with Mustang is a whole other thing I’d love to praise, but that really deserves its own post)
General Olivier Mira Armstrong
Tumblr media
At first glance, the hardened and ruthless General Armstrong seems like she would fit neatly into the ‘strong women don’t show emotion’ stereotype, but I want to talk about why I think she rises above that.
Yes General Armstrong is a badass, but her main thing is that loyalty and trust are essential for leadership, and that having a strong bond with her subordinates gives her a huge advantage over other military officials. The reason why the Briggs soldiers are a cohesive, trustworthy group is because they know that Armstrong has their back and genuinely cares about them. Compared to other higher up officers we see in the show who have subordinates who full on hate them or distrust them, it’s clear that Armstrong is the most efficient at leading due to her genuine care.
Later on in the show, Armstrong also has a moment where she acknowledges that resting after being hurt is the smart thing to do, rather than pushing through your injuries to try and seem strong. I really loved that Armstrong in particular was the one to make that statement.
May Chang
Tumblr media
Something I really love about May is that she is very ‘feminine’ in a lot of ways. She is cute, she is very bubbly and positive, she isn’t afraid to cry or to fangirl over the Elric brothers. However, she is also one of the most skilled fighters in the show, and is incredibly humble about it as well. I think May is one of the best examples in the show of not having to forego your femininity to be a badass.
Teacher/Izumi Curtis
Tumblr media
Though it is used as a recurring joke (especially when she mentions it after using incredible feats of alchemy) the fact that Izumi self identifies as a housewife is what I like the most about her. It’s not used as an insult, she is a housewife; she takes care of the house while her husband runs their business. But her being a housewife is not a bad thing, that’s literally just what she wants to do and there’s nothing wrong with that. Women don’t have to completely brush aside traditionally feminine roles to be really cool and strong.
In conclusion, imo what makes the girls of FMAB ‘good’ or ‘strong’ is that 1. they are their own people who have their own goals outside of the main characters’ lives, 2. they are able to fight and defend themselves if they so desire to, and 3. they can have feminine traits that have nothing to do with their ability to fight or achieve their goals. Also, the fact that there are so many of them. When discussing any kind of representation, having more than just one person with the trait you’d like to represent is the way to go.
Anyway, I’d like to hear your thoughts! this is obviously just my personal opinion, as I’m using my own cultural concepts of femininity and womanhood as a basis here. So if you have anything to add from a different perspective I’d love to hear it.
Thanks for reading!
