Hi I just wanted to ask when you make your characters in blender do you sculpt their faces or do you use a different method? I also wanted to ask if you learned everything you know about blender from the froqqy vid you send a long to ago or did you learn some stuff with different vids? If so can you recommend some more vids :?
btw just wanted to say I love your art and you inspire me so much I’m doing blender cuz of you now hehe <3
hiii i actually made the faces in vroid and then uploaded the models to blender, then got rid of everything but the faces and adjusted as i wanted in sculpt mode :) the bodies/heads were made from scratch using what i learned from the froggy tut
also thank u sm im so glad to hear that omgg <33
and i havent opened blender in months but i remember often referencing several other videos, i'll link them below:
anything from intranetgirl is super helpful – their channel
also learned how to project textures onto the model instead of painting them in blender thru this vid –
Blender 2.8 Bake camera mapped projected texture tutorial
some timelapses that i think i learned a lot from –
[Blender + 3DCoat + CSP] 3D Lowpoly TimeLapse (Anime Chibi Girl)
[Blender + 3DCoat + CSP]3D Lowpoly TimeLapse (Blacksmith Girl)
Blender 2.91 - Character Sculpting & Retopology Part 1
i looked at other videos as well for more specific stuff (uv mapping, retopology, rigging, etc.) but i think these were the ones i frequented most. timelapses actually help sm so i rec watching a lot of those!
disclaimer: i was going for a 2000s mmorpg/kingdom hearts 2 look when making my models so some of these might be more helpful if ur going for the same vibe
i hope this helps! i'll update if i remember anything else

hi tamelee!
I'm here to ask for a little bit of advice if that's okay (: about a month ago I bought a Wacom drawing pad so I could start experimenting with digital art. artists like you here on tumblr have really inspired me to start making art. but I feel kinda.. lost. I've been mostly drawing naruto manga caps and I'm getting better but I guess I don't know where to go from here. coloring and shading scares me lol. I'm using clip studio paint and it's just a little.. intimidating. I feel discouraged, like I won't be able to do it. how did you do it tamelee? did you watch a lot of tutorials, or did you experiment until you figured things out? any advice you'd have for a beginner artist I'd really appreciate.
thank you veryvery much for your time ^^
Hi Nonee! 🧡 Sure!
Oh I think that’s a very good place to start. As well as drawing subjects you like ^^! Hmm, tbh I’ve just experimented a lot, but I don’t think my way of having done things was the most efficient. You might want to follow tutorials step by step? You can try coloring only with flat colors until you feel a bit more confident with that as well as cell-shading (toon-shading/non-realistic, like in anime) instead of rendering further as that can all be confusing at first. I personally never truly understood shading until I studied cell-shading and made my art a lot more readable. A lot of Anime uses this;
Tumblr media
You see how there is a base color, a darker color for shadows and highlights? (Sometimes not even highlights.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When you start to study it from existing work you’ll start to notice things like color always being in the same area of saturation and when you suddenly have a color that is way more saturated than the other it can look off. (See example.) But this is a guideline, not a rule. In your own art you can especially use saturation and brightness to help aid you to direct a viewer's focus and even tell a story.
I LOVE ‘How to train you dragon’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda’ for this because their coloring is so inspiring and if you truly want to learn from professionals... well those are the type of media to look for of course! I have an entire folder to inspire me just based on those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you see how calculated those color combo’s are?!?! Here you see both analogous and complementary schemes and it is actually through looking at the things I like that I learned it >< The orangey colors stand out and are bright which helps you to focus on that area whereas the complimentary scheme is used to bring characters together.
If drawing Manga-caps is something you love to do, then maybe for coloring you can study screen-caps from Anime or even other animated films. I’d recommend to take it step by step, though I haven’t really applied it myself, from the video’s I’ve seen and artists I’ve followed it is always advised to have an art-goal that you can work toward. Maybe you first want to focus on lineart and then laying down a base color where the colors are harmonious and next would be cell-shading maybe and then you can start adding another light-source etc- eventually you can decide to create more depth or practice with monochromatic coloring, maybe even greyscale to learn values. But right away that can all sound a bit intimidating doesn't it? Find things that you like and then maybe you can open them in your program and just study. Find a brush you like, put on some music or a show on the background and for a moment play around with it without needing to create a finished piece. This is also how I learned how things like adjustment layers work or what all the different kinds of tools do. I have to agree with you, CSP is intimidating for me as well >< so this is kinda how I approach it as there are so many add-ons and additions within it but I try to only learn what I need for that moment so I don't overwhelm myself.  I definitely try to find video’s that can help me with creating Manga though! ^^ There are plenty!  It'll get easier eventually, you'll learn the program and you start to recognize placements for shadows and you will get a feel for the coloring- no worries 💪 Learning something new will always stay intimidating, every time I open up a new document I feel it too. It's not easy at all, but you kinda have to allow yourself to experiment and even make mistakes because practice is never perfect. I have some beginner tips written here- I hope any of this is somewhat helpful 🌷🫶

tangentally about your art, do you have any tips for drawing hands and faces?
for faces im not really sure how i can explain it since faces tend to be like the first things people learn to draw, so ive been drawing htem for yrs yk? In real life though, faces arent symmetrical. but in anime and cartoons we tend to prefer them to be perfectly even, for front facing images its easy to just flip the canvas or even flip the lineart i youre working digital. if youre on paper using a mirror or taking a photo can help.
eyes GENERALLY should be one eye apart from eachother but they dont have to be in all art styles. to keep the eyes looking focused you should be a little more in the middle, not too much because theyll look cross eyed, but slightly in the middle
Tumblr media Tumblr media
right here, in the first pic is what im talking about, her eyes are closer to her nose. then i took dianas eyes and moved the irises to be centered in the eyelids, she looks like her eyes are looking in diferent directions lmao.
for noses it really depends on your style but it is 100% possible to translate different nose shapes into even anime styles, the best advice i can give is to just practice drawing different faces and trying to translate them into your style, you'll figure out what looks cutest to you.
and then after i said this i actually remember making a specifically regarding black people that had a section on noses hold on
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for hands it again you gotta do a lot of referencing. unfortunately for me, i have chunky fat baby hands, so when i reference myself the hands tend to all be fat baby hands too lmao. but it does help at least in figuring out the composition of a hand and where all the joints go
for my projects ill be honest and say i heavily rely on a lot of assets and stocks, these are all made for artists to use freely and are even okay to trace. Adorka stock has literally been carrying a lot of my art lmao I also use Hato Kings hand references and CSP 3d models for really hard poses. speaking of Hato king they have a book for kindle that has even more hand references and lots of information on how to draw them, in both english and japanese so if you like their references please buy the book
Although when it comes to tracing stocks its very important imo that you adjust it to suit your style, use it as a tool but also a reference for learning. if your art isnt going for realism you dont want to have a perfectly realistic hand and then a toony body lol

I love your animations so much! I know you're a beginner, but they look so advanced, and the "scribbliness" you described genuinely adds to your animations in my opinion. Do you have any tips? If not, that's fine! I really just wanted to say I'm impressed, especially for a first animation!
Awwwe thank you! I’m really happy that you like my animations 🥰. I feel incredibly underqualified to give animating tips cuz like I’m at a stage where I’m still learning how to keyframe, and use multiple layers(? I think I’m doing it currently in an insane way that can’t possibly be right, but tutorials are incredibly boring)
I don’t know if any of this is useful or interesting to you but I like to ramble so here ya go:
For the two little animations I did, I used the gouache brush in CSP to make all my lines and then a separate layer with a paper texture image set on multiply.
The third longer animation/animatic thing was pieced together shots from a comic I drew awhile ago. It’s a bit of a WIP as I am working on redrawing so my characters can move around separate from the backgrounds.
Again thank you for saying these lovely kind things. Your words made me smile!

Welcome to the last days of 2023 you animals, here's to hoping that 2024 is better
In case it wasn't obvious, but I'm a nasty whore for making vague posts about whatever projects I'm working on (or better known as 'things' because 'projects' isn't vague enough). But if I keep this shit up I might just explode, so here I am to give a short rundown on what 'things' are:
PERSONAL THINGS
● Klątwa (eng: The Curse): It's a comic that I've worked on here and there for a few years, 2023 was when I actually started making progress on it. I've managed to finish the first draft of the script, will more than likely write a second draft. There's a werewolf, there's Slavic mythology, and there's a guy that can't seem to catch a break.
I've made a few pieces of art for it (this one X is my favorite), namely of the main character Mirosław. I haven't really decided on how the other characters should look, let alone how I'm going to go about drawing the comic itself. (I have ambitious plans to make a trailer for the comic, here's the song I'd use X)
FANART THINGS
MOTH
● I don't have fancy names for this section but we'll just divide it between two bulletpoints. The first piece of fanart is a sort of edit to a smaller chunk from Cell Block Tango from the musical Chicago. I've got a handful of sketches and a dream.
● The second piece of fanart is probably the most out of my wheelhouse (and frankly (he he) the most ambitious) because it's supposed to be a storyboard animation using a snippet from episode 14 of MOTH (link here) (The snippet I want to use is from 33:00 to 35:20). It's the bane of my existence and a thorn in my side. It reminds me of the fact that I never took the time to actually learn how CSP works outside of the baseline stuff and that I have a very vague understanding of what goes into animation. I'm going to finish it, I won't let a project get the better of me. Besides, I've already thumbnailed and drafted the majority of it, so I think it would be a waste to not at least attempt to finish it.
BW
● It started out as a silly little speedpaint video, with just some music and sped up footage of an old piece of fanart (the fanart in question being a piece I submitted for the contest GB held back in April of this year). It turned into a big ass thing with multiple illustrations and a silly voice over. I've been working on this thing since May/June of this year. I have a portion of the illustrations done and recorded, but there's still a bunch more to make and a voice-over to record. I just keep giving myself more work.
In short, if I'm referring to "working on a thing" I'm probably referring to one of the above-mentioned. I can't give specific dates as to when everything will be finished, but if I had to order it from most to least likely to be done next year it would be: BW thing, first MOTH thing, second MOTH thing and Klątwa.
I'll still post other things, of course, don't worry, I'd personally lose a marble or two if I didn't do anything else outside of my projects.

i hate how tedious it is to set up the frames in csp the way i want hhhhnnnghhhh sometimes i just want a simple animation but god its so time consuming to use it
am i missing something? i’m probably not using it as intended but sometimes i dont want the pose to last just 1 frame y’know sometimes i need it to be longer but it just takes so much time to set up the frames so that i can still edit or move them around....maybe i should stick to comics and illustrations on csp and actually learn blender or like download opentoonz
the problem with blender tho is that it looks like it doesn’t have many pretty brushes like csp or photoshop??? a lot of times i feel like you need to pick between animating programs with ugly brushes and art programs that are clearly not made for animating with pretty brushes
then i also have the option for moho but it’s not exactly free and toonboom is not a one time purchase thing and if it is i dont have the money for it and TVpaint is also expensive

Little Bear here again to ask if you have any tips on how to start with the more complex side of animation!
I'm self taught so it's so hard to find proper resources because half the stuff I already know/do (Like when I start on the basics) but the minute I look for more complex stuff it's WAY too much to understand KLGJFDLK,,,, Do you have any middle ground between beginner and complex?
HI!!! Sorry I didn't reply earlier; it's been a crazy week as far as college assignments.
Unfortunately idk if I'm the best person to ask about starting to learn animation, because I've been lucky enough to have schools that offer animation courses since I was in middle school; I haven't necessarily done a lot of self-taught animation by this point.
Currently I use ToonBoom Harmony for class, which is an incredible animation program, but it also may not be the most affordable if you're not a student. (My university provides it to animation students for free.) The most basic option is currently sitting around $30 (USD) per month, which I will say isn't as bad as I thought, though. I use TB for rigged and hand drawn animation.
If you're able to use ToonBoom, I definitely recommend the free tutorials made by my professor, Matt Watts! He is a super cool guy and it's such an honor to call him my professor! He works at Disney and with Odd1sOut, and ToonBoom actually hired him to make tutorials, so you know he's a good resource!
I'm currently learning 2D rigged animation from him and my other professors, and he has a course on making a rig from start to finish here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVv7vmBaoUs&list=PLAixTSGooiioZ53TveysaKURS_bOOx-E-&pp=iAQB
I haven't gone through that tutorial myself, but a few of my classmates did, and having him as a professor, I've gone from knowing nothing about rigged animation to having a pretty decent understanding on how to build a rig from scratch and best industry practices!
As for hand drawn on a stricter budget... Flipaclip was my go-to before I got access to TB, though I'm pretty sure that's mobile only. It's free though, and there's tons of helpful tutorials for it on youtube! Clipstudio Paint also has animation tools, but unless you have CSP Ex, they're very limited; I personally haven't used it for animation.
Sorry I don't have more advice than that, but if you have any questions about certain aspects of animation or in using a certain program (assuming I'm familiar with it, of course) please feel free to ask me! I'd still consider myself a rookie, but I've been learning about animation for several years at this point, so I might be able to give some tips, at least ;w;
If anyone else wants to chip in with good resources for getting into animation, by all means share!

CW vent on creative pursuits & mental health
Lately, I'm feeling so overwhelmed and yet also like I'm not doing enough at the same time. I've got like 4 personal projects I'm trying to work on but I don't really feel like I'm doing enough?
Or more like, I don't really know what I'm doing, but, I know no one ever really does.
But all of those projects were pursued with the intent to enable me to have a creative form of expression. To fight against this deeply rooted notion that my place is in the background and I deserve to be quiet, and silent.
I have worlds I want to build, stories to tell, I have people I want to help with my own learned experience and resources. I want to act, I want to exist, and not just be some name on a list. I feel compelled to make something because I *feel* it inside wanting to come out, I just, don't know how.
And fuck, I know with a bit of honing of my skills there's *something* there that's gonna really have an impact. The problem is just figuring out....what that is. I do a lot of things pretty decently that have made a difference in a few folks, but I can't seem to...focus on anything enough to refine it further.
Live streaming is going well enough, I think? People seem to love my voice and my charm, and it introduces folks to new games while raising money for charity. Not a lot of money, but some. But I only seem to have time to stream once a week, and it takes a lot of energy to be "On" for so long.
There's voice acting for a NSFW animation because I know I have "that voice" and it might be fun to see people's reactions when its all done. But at the same time that kinda feeds into the whole "meat market" mentality that im not super fond of. I already have been pursued, used, and abused because of my looks, and I'm afraid of my voice contributing to people not seeing *me*, but just the hot girl they wanna fuck.
There's indie game work for a beautiful queer story, and I want so desperately to see it ship, but I've never had so much responsibility before. I keep finding myself paralyzed when I think about how much work will have to go into this "small" game, over years. I worry about letting the other devs down, even though they have told me its okay if i never contribute to the game. I just wish I had more time, or energy to really write some awesome code, but its so hard after spending 8 hours during the day juggling meetings and design docs and obtuse code bases. Its hard to code more after coding all day, even if the mind is willing, the body ain't moving.
And then it all goes back to personal art. It seems simple, self reliant, no pressures. But there's so much emotional baggage I still push thru left from folks no longer in my life, like it took me hours for me to soothe myself enough to just open CSP for the first time this year. Trying not to trauma dump, but, fuck I've just been through a lot, I've been treated terribly before, and unfortunately the pursuit of art was tied closely to those events and those traumas.
The issue now, though, is more of what I had before the incident, where I have the vision of the art piece in my head, but my hands and my technical knowledge aren't far enough to actually make the piece. Its like seeing a finished game, wanting to make your own, but not knowing how to navigate a game engine. I know I have things to learn, but I struggle with identifying the what.
And I just get overwhelmed. Then my attention swaps to another venture, makes a few steps, and I get overwhelmed again. It doesn't feel like I'm going anywhere or accomplishing anything.
I think I'm seeing a lot of paths I can take but I see the length of each path on the grand scale, and it makes it hard for me to just stick to one and identify first, little steps.
Worst part is I know so much of this is a problem of my own creation lol. No one is making me do this! I can totally just, work and vibe and play games and kiss girls and be fine. But fuck, I want more, and I wanna make something. I don't even really care if it has a big or small impact, I just can't let life pass by constantly being a....small silent pushover. Im not that type of fuckin person. Im no ones arm candy, or wallet, or fuck toy. Im not gonna let anyone control me like that ever again.
My beauty, my worth, is my mind and its words. And I'll find a way to let it speak, and thrive, and blossom. To fully claim my identity, my personality, and let it be seen and heard.
I don't know how, but I'll figure out something. I'll figure out my forward.

an art meme i bumped into on twitter!!!! and me rambling about it lol
favourite colours: i did this all on my phone so i both colour picked and eyed it, but the first three are the base colours i use for kuukou lol and i tend to fall back on purple when i don’t actively think about which colours to use. (purple, ironically, is my favourite colour 😭😭😭) that brown orange colour warms up my images in ways that make me feel like i know what i’m doing when i colour it sure does save me lmao
favourite subjects: lol i’m actually getting worried i can’t bring myself to draw if he’s not part of the picture but that’s a different conversation lmao
favourite brushes: painting brushes come and go but himogi pen is eternal—
favourite piece: jyushi’s gorgeous, hitoya’s hair didn’t stab me through my stomach mortal kombat style for once, drawing kuukou’s ew04 hair helped me finally decide to draw kuukou’s bangs the way they should be; it was just a piece that improved the way i draw them lol
tried something new: i don’t think i made gif art before this in csp so it was really neat to figure that out!!!!
goals for next year: comic- since all i do is binge korean webcomics nowadays, this goal is heavily influenced by that, but i do miss making short comics 😭 i have an idea for an ichikuu comic i’d love to work on 😭😭 anatomy- if i could draw men’s bodies as juicy and fluidly as nu:carnival’s men, i would never strive to change ever actually LOL animating- had an idea for a gif but it would take a little bit of animation technique to get it to look the way i want. idk how to do that lol animating wasn’t something i was interested in but i can 👍 learn 👍

5 and 28 and 29 for the ask game!
5. What work are you most proud of (regardless of likes/reblogs)?
Hm. I like all of the self portraits/profile pics that I put out this year. Each one was borne from me trying out a new technique or feature in CSP. As I type this I still have one more planned for the year's end actually lol (These were made in January, May, July, and September respectively)
Tumblr media
Beyond that, pieces that featured a more painterly style or more drastic coloring. I've been trying to get into drawing more elaborate stuff but my attention span is my enemy.
28. Did you learn anything about your art/process/style this year?
This current semester was my first full semester as an art student so I learned a lot about composition, line variation, and traditional techniques in school. Beyond that, the first half of this year I was on a leave of absence from school and spent that time teaching myself color theory, human anatomy, and other art fundamentals to prepare for my return to school. I think it goes without saying that I've improved a lot (first picture is from January, second is from last month).
Tumblr media
Like fr starting off drawing sessions with gesture drawing put me at an advantage in drawing classes bc I already knew how to do it by the time it was being taught- same with learning how to work with charcoal and different types of paper. It helped me to notice how the way I held material affected linework and quality and I think I've improved a lot :D
I also started using Pinterest for references in like... September?? and damn. using references for drawings made my people look more proportionally solid. that's crazy. Like I've always loved making art but this year I was frustrated with how little growth I felt that I'd had in high school + the first two years of college so I hunkered down and started learning fundamentals.
29. What are you excited for next year when it comes to your art?
I want to try to apply for zines and do more fanart!! Do more full pieces with backgrounds and shit!! Perhaps even learn to animate!! Also for my professional stuff I'd like to improve my typographic skills (I'm supposed to be a graphic designer lmao) and get back into logo design bc I fell off.

My 2023 Art Retrospective (Part 1)
Before we continue--yes, this is just part one. I will warn you upfront--this is going to be a wall of text, and so will the next part. With my 2022 retrospective I did try to condense things down, but I wasn't anywhere near as successful for this year.
I originally didn't want to write a retrospective because in terms of general performance/productivity, I felt there wasn't much to discuss. Looking back on my 2022 retrospective, my big story there was how I made a *big* leap over 2021 in productivity, and raised my profile/art skills quite a bit, with 2022 seeing some of my most popular art, period. 2023, all things considered, seemed like it was 2022 again, like one of those videogame sequels that's mainly just more of the same. But the more I really consider the following, 2023 honestly was like if I took whatever strides I made in 2022 and strapped a rocket (assume 2022 is a car for this analogy to work). I think going into the nuances as to why I feel this way is important, and with 2023 marking my online art identity having existing for over a decade by this point, I think that milestone itself is also worth more than a cursory acknowledgement.
Like last year, I'll first start this retrospective by looking back on my my art goals outlined for 2023, when I made my retrospective by 2022's end.
Fanart: Much like 2022, I think I came close on having at least one fanart posted each month, but my OC projects (The Clock Robin Caper; and an upcoming OC project I started development on, but eventually decided to withhold for 2024) took priority, the fanart became more secondary. Regardless, the fanart output was still at least twice as much from 2022, and they included some of my most-popular pieces to date. The popularity of Not Paying for That/The House Special (the Pizza Tower/SpongeBob crossover) in particular was arguably a case of being at the right place at the right time with an appealing/funny concept--it's to date the only art I've had on tumblr pass 100 notes in less than two days. The (relative) popularity of that work (as well as the popularity of Petals to the Metal [Princess Daisy fanart] on Twitter) are probably the most encouraging works of this year, where the interest they receive does give me hope I can still make more of a name for myself as a artist(/animator) in the current landscape (or hellscape, take your pick) of online creators.
So now I'm in something of an odd pickle in terms of where my angle with fanart goes in 2024. Of course, I would like to make even more fanart of things I like or at least have a vested interest in, but I recognize that the fanart I've generally made has typically been some sort of unique concept (either being something I used to theme my OCs around, or some sort of crossover/mashup of ideas that I like). The fanart also tends to be among my more "technical" works I put added emphasis on details/development, instead of quicker/simpler items like doodles or sketches. I feel like I'd have to change my approach/production process for fanart if I wanted to get more of it out there in the upcoming new year.
Animation: This is where I'd say this was a step back, though I hope with the new circumstances/what I've learned, it does lead to bigger, more, and better things into the future. While I made three animations, it was only two original animations (with a third being a WIP of the existing two), and one of the animations didn't even feature any character animation. Nonetheless, I am admittedly pretty proud that two of them were honestly put together pretty quick (produced out of the interest of a then-viral Barbie Special Month commercial from the 1970s) and I feel they fit the aesthetic/direction of the source material moderately well.
If nothing else, I can at least say that one of the animations (Complimentary Doll) marked my return to trying to animate in CSP, which I had abandoned due to limited features (I had PRO, so I was limited in framerates); while the other (Waiting for Free Stuff) was animated in OpenToonz, which I do think I grew more comfortable to using as time went on (learning keyboard shortcuts and taking a more "modular" approach with using multiple levels for animating different parts of the animation). I fully believe I could had gotten Waiting for Free Stuff finished even earlier if I didn't use OpenToonz' raster layers for the entire animation (which was very limited to use, even with using multiple levels), instead of vectors layers.
Between being able to get an upgrade to CSP EX (Ver. 1--copies of which are still being sold in certain areas), becoming more accustomed to OpenToonz, and getting a new drawing tablet; I'm hoping to really expand my animation ventures. In particular, I'm hoping that I'm able to get back into producing animations with colors and producing more animated stuff in general--which in general, I foresee being easier with CSP instead of OpenToonz. (I still want to keep learning OpenToonz nonetheless, since it's UI/setup is still arguably more tailored for an animation workflow compared to CSP.)
Backgrounds/environments: Overall, I say this was a step up over 2022. There's still a fair amount of basic environments here and there; but I think there were much less non-environments overall. Fittingly enough, I highly credit my Clock Robin Caper project for the improvement in this area--since I was producing "film stills" representing different "scenes," I made an effort to present most of the characters in multiple different environments; using photos references for most of the settings in question and even going the "extra mile" in adding small details that most people wouldn't even notice. I'd in this regard, Frames 04-09 were my highlights in environment design this year.
The mixed media artwork I did in the spring, where I incorporated my Commodities OCs in photos I took during my trip to Canada, also helped in this regard. That was a fun project that, as I alluded to earlier, I'm honestly not quite finished with. There are other photos I took that I'm hoping to use; but they were shelved to make way for the Clock Robin Caper and the other untitled upcoming OC project. Going into 2024, I hope to try and create at least a few "pure" landscape works, akin to my earlier artwork; though of course I want to properly measure where my current art skills lay with environment design. By the same coin, I'm still open to doing remakes of my previous art (which was sadly a no-show for this year).
Comics/stories: I had nothing to offer on this front for 2022, and I said I wanted this to be my art priority for 2023. I'd argue I delivered and then some--although I think the development process certainly could had been managed better. A core element of my The Clock Robin Caper project was to develop the mystery/story across each of the frame, without much--if any--explicit dialogue said by the characters. (Though I did also regularly include descriptions to at least give some basic explanations as to what was happening and what was the importance of each character in the scene.)
I'd say without a doubt, the Clock Robin Caper is inarguably the most elaborate art project I've done, since I went through a bunch of story ideas/concepts in finalizing it (which is partially why it took so long to finish), in addition to the addition multiple OCs from others' creators that were included (deciding who to use for each frame and figuring out how to draw them--a little over half of the OCs I was drawing for the first time) and the aforementioned environments I developed for each frame. I was also able to get two other comics, with the newspaper-styled short comic "The Thought That Counts" and the longer-form, multi-page comic "The Story of Ronda" (both concerning Ronda and Aero, go figure).
I still have a bunch of story ideas that I'd like to adapt, but much like the fanart, I think I'd have to change my strategy if I wanted to get more comics/stories produced in an adequate matter. I think I still have issues with how I manage my time, which also played a role in The Clock Robin Caper being drawn out longer than it arguably needed to be. It's why I ended up shelving my aforementioned in-development art project --which I actually teased within one my 2023 artworks-- for 2024. Some of the artwork I've made for it was actually completed and has been finished for months, and in other circumstances, I probably would had published it by this point. But with this one, I'm aiming to have most of the artwork completed first, so I can publish it on a consistent/regular schedule.
Art trades/collaborations: Truth be told, this is largely a beat-for-beat replay of last year--wanted to do trades/collabs, but I was busy with my art projects. I did at least respond to at least one OC draw request, and joined in on some viral art redraw memes--which while not quite within this topic realm, was at least some self-imposed challenges I was willing to take on, and were pretty fun to do. By the same coin, there's not much if any movement towards me being open to art commissions (either for fun or for commerce).
--
By this point, I think this has gotten long enough that I'm splitting this up into two parts. Here is a link to the second part. A sincere thanks to anyone who has stuck around to read the whole thing (so far), and have a Happy New Year's Eve/New Year's Day and a wonderful 2024.

I just wanted to tell you that I love your art!! Your style is so pretty and I love how you use colors!
May I ask what program / brushes you use? I'd love to learn a more "painterly" style and your art is super inspiring! <3
Thankee! (I don't have any WIPs atm, so : D will have to do.) I'm just here vibin' and I like to paint, and I love me some bright colors to the point of almost being garish.
I use CSP EX, which I got on sale about....at least 6 years ago. I use EX because I sometimes use the animation program and EX gives you 999 layers to work with compared to PRO's 24. How do I know what the limit is?...By experience... PRO is great for people doing digital art, and are not interested in animation, and you can easily upgrade it during a sale period. Regardless, 1 time pay, and the program is priceless honestly. Highly recommend 1000/10.
In terms of what brush I use, I literally just use their 'default oil paint brush" (it's blending is really just press a bit softer and you put less paint on. I'm not a fan of blending tools. It muddies the colors and the painting in general). I did a custom brush once, but then realized after a couple years that the default is superior to whatever I made. So, "Default Oil Paint Brush No Blend" which it's like the first brush you see. I use that for all my paintings, and I paint everything on one layer, and sometimes I draw directly on the bkrd, or I keep it separate. Depends on what I'm doing.
I do use other tools, but those are for other styles. "Rough Pencil" for sketching and lineart. "Turnip Pen" and "Hard Eraser" for traditional lineart. "Soft Eraser" for softening filters if I use any. Sometimes I use the watercolor brush, but that's normally for filter application or if I just want something different.
Then I draw as fast as I possibly can and conk out for the night. That's not a necessity, just how I do things. Have fun! But note, use whatever tools as you so please. These are just what I like to use, and you don't need to use the same tool to achieve an effect. There's definitely easier ways to do things, but this is how IIIIII like to do things.

Heyo!!! I know I’m a bit far into the new year, but with this being my first year of digital art, I really wanted to make sure I got this so I can start my build up to compare future years to! This also includes a fair few pieces of art I haven’t posted so take that as reward for actually looking haha. You can find the blank template here!
A few end of year questions cause I love self-reflection way too much!
What was your biggest challenge this year?
Man it really depends on the project! In the beginning, it definitely was anatomy and perspective. I had so much stuff that I wanted to draw but just didn’t feel like I had the ability or knowledge to pull it off. That being said, after I found position references and 3D models, that was way less of a stress, and positioning the individual joints I feel taught me a lot on it’s own just about how different body positions look. After that, it moved into the steep learning curves of animation and lighting. I have an animatic project that I want to see come to life so bad, but I’ve had had to realise it’s going to take a lot of practice with other random animatics/animations to feel like I can full that off. I also have just had a consistent fear of backgrounds and lighting, neither of which I’ve done anymore than dip my toes in still.
If I had to pick one single challenge for the year though, I’d say it was just the mere vastness of tools and styles at my fingers tips. I had so much I wanted to do and so many tools I wanted to use, but they all took (and are taking) a very long time to get used to. Just as I start to feel comfortable with my toolset, I realise there’s a better way of doing something and start back at the “beginner” stage. All being considered, though, that definitely isn’t too bad of a challenge to have haha.
What was something you were surprised by?
Other than the absolute bottomless pit that is CSP’s features? Okay, but for real. That thing is crAZY. Hmmmm I think maybe how much my style varied? I feel like even through I draw Player and Carmen all the time, they still look different in 80% of my pictures. Other than that... maybe how okay I am with my shading? Like, on basically all of these that I even attempted shading on, I thought it was absolutely terrible and obviously incorrect. Looking back through in putting this together, though. I was definitely surprised to find that I’m actually kinda proud of most of them. I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me in that department, but I don’t think I need to be as intimidated as I’ve felt.
Where do you think you most improved?
Definitely in my sketches. Once I had a basic comfort with anatomy, it really was freeing. They’re messy at best, but not having to look up what an arm looks like from a certain angle every time made it way more of a relaxed environment. 90% of my art this year is in quick sketches, and I find that I actually am okay with them even after the first time or two. The repetition has really given me a lot more confidence and I’m way faster. Now I just gotta work on getting PAST the sketch part lol.
What are you most proud of?
Probably my Whumptober trap door animatic. It took me absolutely forever and it’s not consistent in style at all, but it spanned several minutes, included only one character that I’d drawn before, had some pretty dynamic scenes, and there was even a bit of background work! It’s certainly some of my cleanest lineart I’ve made and, considering how vivid the scene was in my head, it’s not actually crazy different. It proved to myself I could pull it off and  gives me a lot of hope for my other animatic aspirations.
Speaking of which, 2022 Goals!!
As you know if you happened to have looked through my writing reflection, this is going to be a pretty heavy year in school so I’m trying to keep actual commitments low. That being said I have lots of things I want to try out more this year stylistically:
-Brushes: There’s so many and I’ve got no idea how or when or why to use them, but I want to try!
-Shading and Lighting: I left a lot of things uncolored because I was scared the shading would ruin them, but I’m not going to improve if I don’t let myself fail a bit first.
-More Dynamic Scenes and Positions: Same as above. They’re terrifying, but I want to be able to do them better
-Experiment With 3D Sets!!!: This last month I’ve discovered that in the same way I can use 3D models, I can use 3D sets as well! I’m once again at the very bottom of the learning curve, but I’m so excited for the potential this could bring to the ambitiousness of my scenes.
-Post More: I’m honestly kind of terrified of posting art for some reason, but I have tons to share. I don’t know if it’s cause tumblr is more intimidating, or cause art is stolen more often than fics, or cause it’s way easier for a small mistake to ruin an overall art piece, or cause it feels less common to be a mostly h/c artist than to be an h/c author. There’s tons of worries and insecurities that probably play into it, but I think it would be nice to feel more comfortable because those of you who do interact with my stuff are really nice and deserve the extra Player content.
Overall, how’d the year go?
Pretty good! I really explored a ton of stuff with my tablet and I’m just beginning to feel like I’m moving out of the experimentation stage and into the doing stage (for some things haha). There’s still so much to learn, but I’m getting to the point where I enjoy my art more often than not and in my opinion, appreciating your work where you’re at, despite the flaws, is a huge step towards becoming a better and more confident artist.

Tumblr Meets LittleNights
(This was created on March 18th, 2021 -> Comic Released on March 19th, 2021)
Seeing that it was World Day of Sleep, I saw Tumblr trying to make their users go to bed...to which many of them replied with “Oh!  So you want me to sleep at work and loose my job!” to “AHAHAHAHAHAH!  Very funny, Tumblr, I can’t sleep no more-”
So with this in mind, I saw that @ c_w_nightmares on Twitter had made a personification of the Little Nightmares Twitter account (@ LittleNights) and decided....Hey!  If Tumblr wants us to go to sleep, why not have a character be able to put people to sleep-
Then within a few hours, I created this comic strip!
...sadly I don’t know how to do animation yet (still learning how to use Krita since I cannot afford CSP), but hopefully in the future I can animate this when World Day of Sleep comes around again for next year.
But literally, when this whole thing came into mind (before I drew the comic)...it was literally a full-blown animation with sound affects, voicing, etc. within my head. XD

Hey! I love your art it is so soft and expressive!! I was wondering how you felt about using CSP vs SAI, I want to get an art programme that's windows friendly, but I don't really want to buy anything and not like it. Could you maybe say what the pros/cons of each are (that you've noticed so far)? Hope you have a nice day, hope this isn't too much of a bother :)
hey thanks!!1 OKAY OKAY, here i go
CSP
Pros- so so so many features (auto-colour, auto clean up of dusts, etc.)- SO many assets (3D figure to reference, ready-made backgrounds, etc.)- a life saver for comic artists
Cons- a bit of a learning curve- a little too much when first starting- really weird animation feature?? (but at least u can still animate)
SAI
Pros- simple- good for beginners to digital art- good for just drawing, doodlingCons- very behind on the software standard- lacking a LOT of features (like i don’t think there’s even rulers in sai)- can’t animate at all- can’t save as cmyk- there’s a limit for layers
So overall, though it was very hard for me to transition from SAI to CSP (that’s coming from a person who started digital art using Ps...), I’m very happy with CSP now, very comfortable with it. It’s just overall superior BUT SAI is just overall easier.
BUT HEY, if you search SAI on my blog, i’m pretty sure I still have the crack version I used since I was 13 linked somewhere. It’s very safe, and you can use it as a test run. And then maybe get CSP’s trial and compare the 2! c:
