“Hmm, I disagree Buer, I believe the Hundun Emperor is saying they wish to take a bath perhaps. I am also attempting to use context, as it has been a long day for them.” Zhongli is in his classic “majestic thinking gentleman” pose, and you’d admire it more if it weren’t for the fact that they don’t seem to be getting what you’re saying.

You hadn’t yet found someone with a higher friendship level than 2 or 3 (hey, don’t blame yourself, you really have to put effort into friendship levels to get them anywhere and you were still busy screwing around in Sumeru when you got spirited away).

So needless to say, most people were getting “the, me, I, you, etc.” rather than the actual important keywords you needed them to, hence the godly charade game now.

As you “hold” something, you throw your hands up in the air, still keeping your hands wrapped around nothing. You think if somebody told you last week that you’d be playing charades with the archons in Genshin Impact so you could actually communicate with them… well you don’t know what you would have done. Maybe just gave them a really awkward laugh.

“Oh! Are you asking for a weapon? Akitsu Mikami, my emperor, we or our nations will surely provide protection from any harm that might befall you. Hm, I suppose we should offer something anyway… I wouldn’t want to displease them…” Ei mutters to herself, having taken over her puppet once more for the occasion.

She and Buer, still retaining their authority status, had asked for the area to be cleared in order to try and get closer to communicating with the Divine First, or you.

“Ha! What idiot would try to hurt the All-Parent in their home, unless they wish to get thrown?” Venti cheekily says, as you don’t understand him, but judging by Zhongli’s clenched jaw, Ei’s sigh, and Nahida’s giggle, you can guess.

You give your own sad sigh… it’s already been 3 hours. 😭

How hard is charades for 4 archons??

Well… apparently very hard.

You put your face in your hands, and you hear the (retired) archons start to debate something, you can tell it’s getting a little passive-aggressive between Venti and Zhongli by their tone alone.

…Okay, now it’s just aggressive.

The archons eventually give their attention back to you so you can go back to your charades lol

You tried opening your mouth and closing it, very obvious, they can’t go wrong.

…Turns out they can.

Somehow you find yourself with a hot tea brewed by the geo archon.

(Venti attempted to offer you Dandelion Wine, or Osmanthus Wine even, and only god, well you now, knows where he pulled them from. Ei swatted his head, he looked so offended, and his cheeks were all puffed up, heh.)

Giving up, you just try to motion for them to stay still, your hands gesturing like trying to calm a wild animal.

They give you questioning looks, and you begin to walk off, they all seem to immediately start discussing something with each other. All of the gods look very conflicted, and after a minute of you getting further away (yes, you’re almost home free, Xiangling here you come! ) Nahida skips to catch up with you.

She gives you a beaming smile, and you can’t bring yourself to not return it. She's so much cuter in real life, even the official art didn't do her justice.

You make your way towards the restaurant, finally.

And apparently you’re happier than you thought to smell the savory scents flowing out of the kitchen because your stomach growls loudly.

You’re too hungry to even attempt to stop it, no one will care, except Nahida’s eyes go wide. She begins to sputter, and flail her hands desperately trying to charade an apology at you.

…you were just trying to tell them you were hungry. 💀

ooooh three bitchy opinions 👀 okay so, not really a trope but:

authors who are snide towards canon

this one is kinda hard for me to describe, but you know those fics that have a line that Makes A Statement about something in canon and the tone of it is just bitchy? or just any sort of vibe where the author clearly thinks they're Much Better than the actual show writer? sighs.

we've all had that phase in fandom where we hate read/watch something and then bitch about it online but my god am i glad to be over that bullshit. if you don't like it here, you don't have to be here! there's nothing making you stay! I've noticed the trend that if the author's a snide cunt about canon, they're inevitably going to be a snide cunt about some canon thing i do like, and i don't need that in my life. you can disagree with/change canon choices in a way that doesn't automatically put down anyone who does like what canon did, and you can't do that if you're going to be smug and superior about what you do or what you don't like. canon is a sandbox and if you're not here to have fun, please go to a different sandbox where you will have fun, it'll be much nicer for everyone.

spite fic

similarly: i have negative patience for spite fic. what's the fucking point of spite fic? if you only participate in spaces you don't like, you're never going to find the stuff you like or convince anyone in those spaces to change their minds, you're just going to piss everyone off as you trample on their toes. i'm a little steamed thinking about this because of the debacle of people trying to start fights in tags, but overall its just so childish and exhausting. again: why are you here if you aren't having fun!!

like i said above, there's a way to...hmm, dance? with stuff you don't like that still comes from a place of love. like, personally! i do not like Macau & Chay friendship! which is a different post, but fandom largely likes to smash the two of them together for some reason and i Don't Get It. so i avoid that tag, but i wrote interior design with the sort of playfully-antagonistic dynamic i would love to see more of between them. but like, my point was "hey, has anyone considered how funny this would be" and never at any point "the other way people write them is WRONG." because it isn't wrong, it's just not my cup of tea. i'm rambling, but tl;dr- anything tagged with "spite fic" or is spite fic in vibes has me rolling my eyes and scrolling by, no thanks.

fix-it fic

okay so like. i don't automatically click out of anything with this tag, but i'm very leery towards it. my joy in fandom is exploring all the "what-ifs" of canon and canon-divergence is such a fun playground, but i've gotten...really, really frustrated with the fix-it fic tag over the past few years. a lot of fix-its revolve around "what if x choice never happened" scenarios and very often the answer to that is "this significantly more boring y result happened instead" and meh. generally, i find it more interesting to work with things that happened in canon than to just banish them, so anything starting with the premise of just erasing something is a hard sell for me.

for example! after kinnporsche ep4 dropped and the spurt of ~fix-it~ fic that dropped so that either kp didnt fuck or it was fully consensual or whatever. it just...missed the entire point of why it was narratively important, or stripped Porsche of the agency he did have during that scene, or missed the point of how Kinn can't ignore the power imbalance between them. i'm not going to ramble more on the meta about it here, but it felt like a bunch of people clutching their pearls and more anxious about making some fictional guys ~unproblematic~ instead of digging into the story the writers were trying to tell. plus, KinnPorsche as a ship minus the power imbalance or the tension of their circumstances is a much more boring story to me, so my inclination is to just scroll by anything wanting to avoid it.

another example of fix-it fic i hated was after good omens s2 came out, a bunch of people rushed to write ~fix-it fic~ where Aziraphale didn't go to heaven or it turned out ~he was drugged all along~ or anything that didn't have Aziraphale and Crowley splitting at the end. even a lot of the literal story metas dropping at the time were theories on how Aziraphale wasn't actually leaving Crowley or he was literally being brainwashed/drugged into it somehow, and it was just like. hmm. the s2 end was the natural build-up of the story (all???? of s2 was them miscommunicating or trying to find their new purposes in the world???) (also: in all trilogies, the 2nd story ends on a cliffhanger, that's How You Write Trilogies) and like. blah, idk, i get how the natural instinct is to want some comfort food after the bombshell, but the good omens tag (on AO3 and even tumblr in many ways) was impossible for me post s2 because i was really excited about their divorce and all the ways to dig into that split, but everywhere i turned was about turning the wheel back to erase it. bleh.

anyways, overall, nothing wrong with fix-it fic, but it's usually easier to just assume anything with that tag is not a story i'm interested in reading.

...reading back and the tl;dr of this post is that i find it more fulfilling to play in a sandbox i like and take all canon choices in good faith to work with lol

some thoughts on acftl

just finished an hour ago and i need to vent (spoiler heavy and pretty long)

stuff i liked

apollo pov

unpopular opinion but i do like the idea of an apollo pov. i think it makes sense since there are some plot points that can only be revealed through apollo. however i think the execution could be better.

at first i liked hearing about his messed up thought process and daddy issues but at some point it became repetitive. it all became about keeping evangeline captive and killing jacks which made it obvious he was just obsessed, not loved, with evangeline. i can't decide if i like it bcs it was a sorta parallel to jack and donatella but also made the reveal at the end kinda obvious.

i also expected some sibling angst?? like the brother plot was just brushed off when they were pretty close until they had a falling out then when the brother came back he poisoned him?? i cant remember but the brother tortured him too i think?? the whole anti valor arc group was never brought up again too like...

2. evajacks

they didnt have a lot of scenes together but those scenes were *chefs kiss* i also liked their development. evangeline is jaded from everything going on, she did learn to not be so trusting and really think for herself what she wants. i liked how she didnt lose a lot of her hope and optimism too.

i disagree with reviews saying that jacks wasnt good in this book since he was so different. i think that was a testament on how eva's death really affected him. i actually wasnt convinced that jacks had feelings for eva until she died in tbona so seeing how jacks so despondent and serious in acftl cemented his feelings in my mind. i feel like people would buy jacks' characterization if there were flashbacks to his past and more povs.

stuff i didnt like, its mainly about how many plot points from the previous books werent mentioned at all

i wish they used the previous characters more

kristof knightlinger was kinda hyped in the beginning, like where did he go?? i wished he and eva had at least one together that would plant doubt in eva that apollo was this perfect prince. (i kinda had a problem with the whole memories thing in general, more on that later)

i also thought that the old librarian would be important lol

i wished luc was in the book too :((( eva lost a quite a bit of her pre-north memories so luc wouldve been perfect to bring those memories back since eva did say that luc had been there for her when her dad died. also he couldve mentioned something about marisol since he wouldve been the only one in valorfell in tbona i think.

i wish lala's feelings for dane were explained more. like does she have commitment issues, does she not feel real love anymore since shes a fate, is there something going on with chaos/castor??? i wanna see more of her relationships with the other valors too but i do acknowledge that including all that is too much for a side character

chaos/castor and jacks angst!!!!! the eva and castor interactions were good but like jacks said he became a fate for castor (which is a good insight into jacks character) but i wanted to see how they interacted after castor killed eva. like your have a friend who you kinda cursed to be an immortal so you then become immortal then your friend then kills the love of your life like..... i need to see how that went down. but also your friend's crazy sister is obsessed with you??? to the point that she also curses you??? like give me friendship angst!!!!!! (speaking of, why did lala agree to be a fate too...) (also what happened to the real chaos fate??)

3. jacks past

to jump off the last point, like where were the flashbacks???? i think jacks being serious this book would make a lot more sense for more people if scenes of his friends dying in like one day and the first fox dying from the curse were shown in the book. show how much jacks blames himself with the deaths of his loved ones, thats why he was so desperate to keep eva alive.

4. jacks pov

kinda related but i feel like jacks pov was underutilized. his povs were super short and didnt reveal much about what he was doing away from eva. in contrast to apollos pov where it was shown how he was manipulating eva and the public about jacks but also his relationship wtih the valor family. wished we couldve seen how he uses the scar to know where eva is and he follows her around.

i woudve loved to see more pining from his end too

also i dont think it was ever explained how they have the telepathic link???? and why eva was immune to his powers??? was it love at first sight? it was mentioned how he watched her from the start but was it love??

5. evas family

what was evas dad's secret shop??? like are not supposed to find out?? the clothes shop was even featured in caraval but not here?? also did the mom know about the prophecy?? were the fox and key motifs on her clothes supposed to be a coincidence or bcs of how much she liked the story as a kid?? that would explain the foxes but not the keys...

i kinda wish that eva discovered something about her mom's life in the north. give her more connection to her family and maybe reveal more of her prophecy

6. memory stuff

getting majority of the memories all at once was meh for me. i wish that each side character revealed/triggered memories for eva. like luc could trigger memories about her life in valenda, kristoff for coming to north and becoming apollo's fiance then wife, lala for her curses and apollo hunting her, chaos for the stones and arc stuff so that evas letter to herself revealing her and jacks relationship could be a final piece of the puzzle.

i do like the fact that jacks kept the letter for himself and eva reading the letter didnt make her distrust jacks but bring her memories back.

7. breaking the curse

so did evas love break the curse?? i kinda thought it was leaning towards jacks love that could break the curse since it was mentioned in tbona that jacks doesnt know if he actually loved the fox but there was no big declaration of love from him.... im just confused, happy but confused

i did like the fact that the curse was 'wrong' that it was never about jacks true love but someone who could never love him. altho i have no idea how eva broke that curse and if that means donatella survived that bcs she would never love jacks

so when jacks admitted that he loved eva, did he turn human?? was that why the curse broke???

also the bells werent as important i guess?? i totally thought the bell stuff was gonna come back....

also what was all that about how eva was like the first fox??? i thought while reading that aurora misinterpreted the vision "he'll fall in live with a Fox" that jacks will fall in love a fox girl but in reality a capital f Fox but castor said in tbona that she was similar to the first fox and eva said that the little fox nickname was familiar.....

anyway thats it for now, after i reread my notes from the three books i might add to this. overall, i think the book was ok, but definitely not enough to be an finale especially for a 5 book arc for jacks. i think the book shouldve been a whole lot longer but i kinda feel like garber wanted the length to be similar to the previous books so the end felt pretty rushed. i kinda feel bad that i had more dislikes than likes when i rlly loved the first 2 books so this was so..... i think there were a lot of good ideas but the execution was not it i guess

VERY MUCH DISAPPOINTED THAT JACKS DID NOT SHOOT A SINGLE ARROW

i do get that this is a romance focused trilogy, not a fantasy so you could argue that plot points and lore shouldnt be looked into as much but the relationship and character development of evajacks could be better too... imo it's mostly jacks character that was lacking

also this did feel like a build up for an apollo book but garber said she wont write for this universe for a while so ??? kinda disappointed if there will be an apollo book bcs the amount of apollo chapters screwed jacks over but in the caraval series, the ending focused on the actual main characters at least and not so much on jacks.

Things I would change about Omori if I was in charge

I love Omori to death, one of the most life changing games ever to me. But Omocat definitely fumbled by blowing lots of the kickstarter money on merch, so here are some changes I would make if i was Omocat. (This is my personal opinion, so if you disagree, thats fine)

1. Longer game

Im the thousandth person to say this but Omocat fumbled HARD by only making this game have 3 days. Make it a whole week!!!!More content!!!!Please!!!!!

2. Spirit Mari’s design

She kinda looks like the stereotypical “ghost girl who was hanged”. She looks just like Sadako!!!

they look the same!!!!!!! Give her a more detailed/fancy looking dress so she stands out

3. Have Sunny look more messed up

Sunny looks very….presentable for a depressed teen boy who hasnt seen the sun in four years. like he still baths and stuff but he should look a little more messy. something more like this (credit goes to u/micheas08 on reddit)

4. More photo album photos

no way Basil has only taken like, a year’s worth of photos when he’s known his friends for (presumably) way longer than that. Have more photos!!! More pics from birthday parties, thanksgiving, halloween, fourth of july, or just have the gang messing around in the park or something. more photos!!!!

5.Develop character dynamics more

I know im always bitching about no Kel and Mari dynamic but Basil has a startling lack of dynamics with other characters aside from Sunny. What was his friendship with Mari like? What about his friendship with Kel and Hero? This could just get lumped into the “longer game” complaint but whatever

A film (I think) would be worth watching!:]

Cw; minor spoilers? I kinda talk about some things or give an idea of what the film is about, but I don't think it'll spoil the whole movie +talking a bit of what a character has at the end of the post. ´¯`'' if you can take time out of your day to read, that would be amazing!

⚠️ tw: surgeries/heart problems (brief implied/talk)

So! What's the movie? What's it about?

The movie I decided to target on is a family/adventure film called "The secret world of Arrietty". If the artstyle looks familiar it is because the film is made from studio ghibli. A studio that you may be familiar with. They are the same studio that made "My neighbor Totoro", "spirited away", "ponyo" and many more.

Why do i suggest this movie?

Not only is this movie is pretty heart warming when it came to the main cast of characters, it is 94% on rotten tomatoes. When it came to a serious problem when it came to a character in the film, it was taken seriously and wasn't something that was randomly put in for plot convenience or to gain the viewers sympathy. But something to keep in mind about a character and maybe them showing you a piece of their own life in said film. (This is at least my opinion as I rewatch this movie alot). The characters are not boring nor are they pushed aside. Even the "villains" of the story was put in the spotlight for awhile. To a show a type of point of view, in which in my opinion isn't often shown in 50% of films. (You are free to disagree but this is from personal experience)

What's is about? What is my 'flaws' with the movie?

As a summary, the movie is about a tiny teenage girl named Arrietty who is shown to live in the walls of a suburban home. She is often adventurous and ventures underneath the floorboards to borrow things from the family kitchen. (Stuff like sugar cubes and other supplies they can carry) Arrietty meets a teen boy in which their friendship is kept a secret from their family

For flaws I don't have anything against the film or characters in general, but I know alot of people have mixed feelings about the characters. In which I agree to their opinions. As someone who watched this when we were younger I always think that the characters could've had more screentime/personality in a sense? But otherwise I wouldn't change much about the movie.

Overall thoughts/personal thoughts about the movie

10/10 movie. This is one of those movies that we just grew up watching when we were younger. It was one of the movies we'd always beg our grandparents to get from the library when we rented movies. And was a movie we watched over and over again. As we got older the movie started to become personal, and it has to do with one of the main characters of the movie. (The boy in the gif above this text) we always had heart problems and due to that we were restricted to do things we wanted to do. Like involve ourselves in physical activities for too long, go through surgeries through our life, and vice versa. and because of it we find ourselves into this movie. Comfort and a type of relief in knowing we aren't alone. Even if its through a screen and an animation but still.

Overall thoughts? A film worth watching, yes. It's an hour and 30 minute film. It's worth it in my opinion

I split the list into two parts: absolute essentials and nonessential episodes that I strongly recommend. They are fairly long! But that's mostly because MLP is kind of a long show. Feel free to skip around all you want, this is mostly just to get you started. The word "essential" is being used very liberally here lol.

ABSOLUTE ESSENTIALS

Most of these episodes are two-parters, and that's because most of the important events and lore take place in these special episodes.

Friendship is Magic Parts 1 and 2 (S1E1-2)

You absolutely cannot skip the first two episodes of the series. Not only do you learn how the Mane 6 meet, but you are also introduced to one of the best characters in the series (Luna). If you watch no other episodes, at least watch these two.

The Return of Harmony Parts 1 and 2 (S2E1-2)

DISCORD I'M HOWLING AT THE MOON! This is Discord's first appearance and is an extremely important set of episodes lore-wise.

A Canterlot Wedding Parts 1 and 2 (S2E25-26)

These episodes are absolutely iconic in the best way possible. Not only do they have one of the best MLP songs ever concocted, but we are also introduced to one of the best and most important major villains, Queen Chrysalis.

The Crystal Empire Parts 1 and 2 (S3E1-2)

Crystal Empire lore. Here we are first introduced to King Sombra (a canonical bicon!) who is a major villain.

Magical Mystery Cure (S3E13)

Arguably the turning point of the entire series. Things start to get a little crazier from here on. I won't spoil it.

Princess Twilight Parts 1 and 2 (S4E1-2)

Don't really have much to say about these episodes (its been years since I've seen them) but I remember them being important.

Twilight's Kingdom Parts 1 and 2 (S4E25-26)

There's some cool lore stuff here, but honestly Tirek is probably MLP's least interesting villain. That's just my opinion, though, some people may disagree. Definitely still recommend giving these eps a watch tho.

The Cutie Map Parts 1 and 2 (S5E1-2)

These episodes are really just amazing. Hands down. The premise is great and, love her or hate her, Starlight Glimmer's debut is fantastic. She's in my top 5 for a reason.

The Cutie Re-Mark Parts 1 and 2 (S5E25-26)

Who doesn't love a good time-travel shenanigans episode? Not only that, but we get to see some swanky butterfly-effect style alternate universes. All around a great set of episodes, even if they did give Starlight a goofy ass backstory.

The Crystalling Parts 1 and 2 (S6E1-2)

I'm only including this in the list because its a special two-part episode, but you could probably honestly skip it, unless you've become invested in Starlight as a character (bc there's important Starlight character development ig). Lore-wise, this special is a little weak and kinda boring.

To Where and Back Again Parts 1 and 2 (S6E25-26)

A special about Starlight Glimmer and ALSO about changelings! Two of my favorite things! Sign me up! Genuinely, tho, this special is one of the best and you HAVE to watch it if you're at all interested in changeling lore.

Shadow Play Parts 1 and 2 (S7E25-26)

These episodes are really interesting. Very heavy with lore, too. You wouldn't expect this kind of premise in a show like My Little Pony, that's all I'll say.

School Daze Parts 1 and 2 (S8E1-2)

Beginning of the MLP school era. I actually really enjoy the school episodes, but some people are mixed on it.

The Mean 6 (S8E13)

I had to include this episode because its just so damn iconic.

The Sounds of Silence (S8E23)

I also had to include this one. It is absolutely inconsequential lore-wise, but this is the only kirin episode and genuinely probably one of the best episodes in the series.

School Raze Parts 1 and 2 (S8E25-26)

I actually love Cozy Glow, she's ridiculous.

The Beginning of the End Parts 1 and 2 (S9E1-2)

We're on the final season now, things are starting to get serious. Something is brewing in the background. also Sombra is back (yay!)

so thoughts on the ted lasso finale since you reblogged to say you enjoyed it.

i'm going to put them undercut just cause it will contain spoilers!! but yes, i did like and enjoy the finale.

so my thoughts on the ted lasso finale, why I enjoyed it and why I felt the majority of the characters ended up where they should be.

so first let's address ted because so many people didn't like the fact he went back to kansas and left his found family just for henry. I saw loads of people say it was very out of character for ted but I got to disagree.

in s2 we found out that a lot of ted's issues and struggles stemed from the fact his father committed suicide when he was only 16 and that resulted in him feeling like his father abandoned him.

with ted having carried that all his life I understand why he felt he needed to go home to be with his son and be more active in his life. he never wanted henry to feel like he had abandoned him and so he went home to be with him even if it meant sacrificing his life in richmond. ted put his son first. and yes, it's nice to think 'well Henry could come to England' but realistically, to uproot his life like that and take him away from everyone in his life would be a lot for a teenager to go through.

Now let's talk about Rebecca.

I know loads of people are angry about tedbecca, which personally I don't ship so maybe that changes my opinion but I generally don't think the fact them two not getting together spoilt her story or her arc.

To me, the entire arc of Rebecca was for her to finally stop caring about Rupert and what he thinks, to get out of his hold and actually realise how much she loves and care for the club.

And she did that, she stopped caring about beating rupert and cared about the team instead. she realised how much good she had done with the club and how important it was to her and how important she was to the club.

That was her story arc done, and to me it was satisfying.

I know tedbecca shippers are upset and yes it sucks when your ship doesn't happen but to me there was no way they could have worked. ted needed to go back to henry, and rebecca needed to stay. imagine how angry everyone would have been if rebecca gave it all up to be with ted. just look how much everyone hates ross & rachel for the exact same reason.

So the roy/jamie/keeley part.

So this was maybe the part i was least happy about but also I don't think it was that bad.

I loved roy & keeley and it sucked so much that they didn't end up together but I do feel that was best for the characters at this moment.

they broke up because roy didn't feel worthy and then he did nothing to help change that mindset. we finally saw him making strides in the last few minutes and i do feel he needs to sort himself out before him & keeley give it another go because at the moment nothing has changed.

I also kinda liked that Keeley ended up single, for the entire series she's pretty much always had a partner. I like that she's decided to focus on her career for a while.

Sure it would've been nice if they had done the previous two bullets throughout season 3 but they didn't, and I think they are important for the relationship to work.

Now jamie, i do largely want to ignore the comment he made about keeley because he's made the best character progress of the season and I love him. at the same time, while the comment was out of line, i do sort of think it's on brand. a lot of the roy/jamie friendship is based on trying to out do each other and I just don't think jamie thought before he spoke which I also thought was on brand for jamie. that said I don't agree with the stuff he said.

I still love jamie and i don't think that one comment ruins his entire redemption.

other stuff.

I was really happy colin got to kiss his fella even if we all saw it coming. i've really enjoyed his storyline and I thought it was done well.

I am really pleased with where the team ended up at the end of the season.

I loved that sam got to play for nigeria.

i've seen a few people say they hated that nate didn't really move forward, especially as he came back to richmond as a kitman. but i felt this was the whole point of his story. he reached the top and it sucked for him, he lost everything but then realised that actually, that didn't matter anyway.

YES for roy kent as manager.

a little gutted they didn't end up winning the whole fucking thing.

happy with where trent crimm ended up.

loved that beard stayed but not so much that he married jane.

i think that covers everything but come talk to me about anything you want regarding the final.

i love them!!!

there has been CRIMINALLY little exploration of their relationship, so there's not really that much of a set-in-stone canon dynamic to point at, but the few examples we do have are so fun, and there's SO much potential for more

they’re an example of my favorite kind of contrasting characters, where it’s like… they are each other but backwards.

i guess you could consider this a type of foil relationship? but it’s not really about them disagreeing or any sort of thematic or idealistic contrast. it's their timelines that contrast--as in their stories are near-perfect parallels of each other but inverted and made completely different. it's like they’re both walking the same road, but they're going in opposite directions. they kinda start out where the other ended up and end up where the other started out.

the stuff that’s core to ollie’s character is the same stuff that’s core to arthur’s character, but it's all flipped. arthur’s origin is like ollie’s playing out in reverse, and ollie’s is like arthur’s happening backwards.

they’re both motivated by their families’ histories and their “birthrights,” but the relationships they have with them are exact opposites. ollie’s story is about distancing himself from his heritage & inheritance, and arthur’s story is about embracing his.

being torn between two worlds is a pretty big theme for both of them. the inciting event in both their stories is a sort of culture shock. they’re both taken from the reality they’ve known their entire lives & thrown into another, VERY different reality, but, again, from exact opposite directions. ollie loses everything he has, and arthur gains a literal kingdom.

if you boil it all way, way down to just the fundamentalest of fundamentals, green arrow is basically a riches-to-rags story, and aquaman is basically a rags-to-riches story.

(pre52, there was another parallel with this because in the 90s, arthur’s origin was changed so he wasn’t half atlantean but was instead a full atlantean child who grew up basically feral in the open ocean, so he starts out living in the wild and ends up living in a castle, where ollie starts out living like a king and ends up living in the wild on the island)

Aquaman/Green Arrow: Deep Target is probably the best (and kinda... only? that i’m aware of) example of something that really focuses on the two of them, and i really liked it. the whole plot is centered around them getting freaky fridayed into each others’ lives, which is very fun and also SUCH a good way to explore a lot of what i’m talking about

(one big criticism i’ve seen of this, which i definitely agree with, is that arthur’s... never really had much of a relationship with his mother? like i get what they were going for here, but yeah, the whole thing works a lot better if you read it as him using her as a standin for his love of atlantis & his atlantean heritage as a whole rather than just her but anyway)

there's just so much potential with these two!!

they’ve been through basically the same thing, but they went through it in opposite directions and had completely opposite experiences. they could both perfectly understand where the other is coming from, but in just as many ways, couldn’t at all. they have absolutely everything and absolutely nothing in common in equal measure. they’re like mirrors of each other, but inverted mirrors where everything is upside down and backwards

SO much potential for a really complex and interesting dynamic... not to mention the comedic potential. i mean, really, the things you could do with the fact that arthur is the head of a monarchy and ollie is... ollie alone!!

Sorry, sorry; @typicalopposite said it'd be funny and I can't say I disagree... but I also wanted to give an actual answer along the lines of my usual ones, so! Here goes:

I predict that Max will wake up (and I hope she does). Joyce and Hopper seem to be heading towards having their date actually happen, so I kinda hope that'll take place (though it'd probably be in one of the soft, around-the-edges moments at the end if so). I predict/hope that Erica will have a decent role in the season, as I absolutely love her. I hope that LuMax have some happier moments to make up for the absolute devastation of last season. (I confess that I'm not deadset on this one, as I have a bit of a contentious relationship with Lucas... I love Caleb's acting, but the character is very much not one of my favorites.)

I don't have many predictions about the state of the season's actual conflict, but I agree with most of the speculation that I've seen about Will getting Vecna'd. There's a definite connection there, at any rate, so there will likely be something similar happening, even if it's not exactly the "Vecna-ing" we saw in s4. Due to what I'm about to say in the next paragraph, I could also see Mike getting Vecna'd, for similar reasons as the above. To be honest, though, I have fewer predictions about the conflict that might arise than other people probably do; I'm more a character-analysis kinda person than a plot-analysis one.

I, personally, think that Byler is going to be realized. I'm not really a hardcore Byler shipper --- it's not one of my top ships, and I don't obsess over it the way I tend to fixate on others --- but I certainly ship them together in a passive way (e.g. I certainly think that there's reciprocated affection there). And I've seen enough clues --- in the acting, the writing, the cinematography (my beloved), etc. --- that I think there's at least a good chance that it'll happen. I hope it does, even though I don't have a personal investment in it; not only do I hope it happens for all the many people who are invested in it happening, but I also think it's what would do justice to the storyline as it's been developed and to a large portion of the viewership. (And those who would be offended by it going canon are, imo, no big loss). Also, Will deserves all the happiness, and, if he thinks that's Mike, then I hope Byler becomes canon.

And as for what I want to see but recognize it might not happen:

I hope that El gets a decent character arc. I've heard theories/requests that she is going to/should die, and just??? What? Why? I mean, she's another character that I don't tend to like much --- again, acting is good; character is not my favorite --- but she deserves better than she's gotten. She definitely deserves happiness, and I very much hope that her happiness comes in the form of her own happiness and not a relationship. I think Milven is unhealthy, and she deserves better. I want to see more of the friendship --- or, if you prefer, romance, but I, personally, see it more as a friendship --- between El and Max. And I hope deeply that she doesn't just get shoehorned into some fate that isn't good for her.

I was torn on whether to put this up in "I think it will happen" or not, and I don't really know where it belongs; my inclination towards pessimism knocked it down here, though: I hope that Robin gets to have a good, well-developed relationship blossom. Sapphic relationships are few and far between, and I only rarely see well-developed ones; also, I love Robin and she deserves happiness. s4 makes me a bit leery that this will happen, though, I must confess. (Also, I've seen compelling stuff for both Rockie and Ronance, so I really don't know which I prefer.) I just want her happy!

I hope that Steve does not get together with Nancy. Indeed, for the most part, I hope he doesn't end up in a relationship at all. (There's one exception to follow in the paragraph below.) I've said many times that he and Robin are chaotic platonic soulmates and I stand by it; additionally, he's got a better family than ever before in Dustin and the others. All of these relationships are better than sticking him with some random love interest --- or, worse, making him "crawl backwards" to Nancy --- and... idk, I don't know how to put it into words, but I mostly hope that he just has a happy life with his found family and doesn't get stuffed into some romance for the sake of a romance that wouldn't do justice to his character.

And, finally, to follow the Duffers' leads and finish with a callback to where I started: I definitely want Eddie to come back, and I very much hope that, if he does come back, he doesn't then die again right after. I admit that I haven't seen much lately about how he might come back, so I don't know if what I'm about to say is still accurate, but... the Kas theory seemed pretty compelling --- especially given the Netflix icon release --- and there's definitely a pretty easy avenue for that to happen without then killing him. (Explaining what I mean takes six paragraphs, so I'm not going to go into it here; luckily, the reason I know how long it takes is because I already made a post to that effect! So, click here if you're interested!) Also, I have my own personal desire for how that could happen --- I just described it in a post here --- and I just think it'd be Very Cool. (Also, if this happens, even the intellectual fear that it likely won't happen can't stop my heart from hoping that Steddie becomes a thing.)

try not to make too many assumptions. some people do a weird thing where they wait a period of time to reach out following a date. ( i dont personally do that. i think that's dumb and outdated but i know many people that do and it's not always with bad intentions behind it.)

dating is like playing a stupid game sometimes. if you haven't texted him yet, you could shoot him a text saying something simple like "i enjoyed seeing you today :)" and keep it short and breezy leaving the ball in his court so that you can leave the door open for him to follow up. but if you have text him already, try not (and i know it's hard) but try not to let your anxiety lead you to bombard him or anything.

if he does ghost you, that would be a bummer but screw anyone that doesn't have the common decency to let you know they're no longer interested. do what you can to no expend too much of your energy into this one person and don't let their interest determine your self worth! i'm sure you're a catch!

if this is a common occurence, perhaps, try some self reflection and attempt to recall if there were any moments in the date where perhaps there was a mood shift that you missed and think about what might've contributed to it. but even then, DO NOT let it get you down too much! dating is trial and error. you'll find your person eventually!

I initially wanted to keep this in my inbox but I decided to answer it now.

For me personally it's hard not to make assumptions or jump to conclusions too quickly, that's cause of my BPD. I am trying, really fucking hard to keep it inside, because if I keep it to myself and eventually someone explains why they did or didn't do something then it's easier for me. Usually I would be too hasty and irrational, do something stupid like texting some really irrational stuff and ruin the entire friendship/relationship. That's the curse of Borderline.

The thing is that the only common thing on all my dates is me. So the issue must be something I said or did, and if I didn't notice it, then it's something I subconsciously do or say, which just makes it all the more harder to pin point. Since this is how I am I don't really intend to change much, I wanna get better mentally wise but otherwise I think I'm not the worst person. I'm just ugly, overweight and boring.

But yeah. Thank you for all the kind words and the reassurance.

Here's an update on how it all went:

After the date I texted him (like 5-6 hours afterwards to reflect on it after being anxiety-ridden on the entire drive back home). And I kept it casual, saying something liek "I had a really great time today" and waited until he responded. Which to me seemed dry and uninterested, cause I'm anxious and self-conscious.

It went like that for like a day or two. Short messages, somehow a little dry. The following day I texted him "haven't heard from you, are you okay?" and I asked after his relative (the one in the hospital), to which he replied that he died. So I expressed my deepest condolences, and from then on I kinda kept my distance cause I don't wanna accidentally say something tactless. But I let him know that if he needed to talk or just reminisce about his relative I'd be here to listen. Since I know sometimes it's easier to talk to someone who didn't know a person. If you talk to family they will interrupt or disagree, cause family sometimes sucks. He thanked me and such but afterwards I didn't hear from him for 3 days, so I sent him a follow up message, asking if he's okay and if he's at least eating and resting.

He didn't reply for a few more days, which just really made me sad. But he was grieving, so I tried so fucking hard not to interpret it as something else, cause I didn't wanna be selfish.

A few days ago he messaged me "I'm back home" followed by some other messages. Being the unfiltered person I am I just said "damn, didn't know you weren't home". and he explained that he was out of the country for the funeral. So it made sense to me that he would probably spend the entire time just with his family, I don't know what country he was in so I don't know if he even had wifi or data, and let's be real. I'm just someone he knows for barely 2 months, I wouldn't waste data on just anyone either.

And since then we're kinda talking daily again, I just can't determine if he's actually interested in me or not. Neither of us have brought up cuddling since the date, which to me is a bad sign. I know he's busy and all and probably still sad and grieving, but if he was interested still he might have asked for a second date by now? Idk.. I just thought maybe by valentines day things would be looking brighter and we'd be on another date.

Idk how to handle shit well cause I've mostly always been alone and no one was ever interested in me. I probably would still think he's uninterested if he wrote "i like you" on a billboard. I'd just me like "..as friends, right?"

Anyways, that's the update. Yesterday my depression kinda got more to me so I was irrational and texted him that I might not reply for a day or two. He seemed very understanding.

Today and yesterday have been pretty chill. It feels weird, the anxiety is just not here right now. But this happened before, I’ll have an anxiety period again. But the important part is that this is happening at all. My prediction is days like this will become more common if I keep working on myself like I have been. Its been nice to focus on things I care about without being held back by irrational fears.

Instead of trying to do a set of mental exercises every day, I’ll just incorporate them into the 1 hour every other day I give myself to work on this stuff.

-For defusion, I can take a word that is at the heart of my current problem and spell it backwards. This is something to do in the field when I’m actually struggling. Its supposed to help pull me back and realize I should be looking AT thoughts and not FROM thoughts. Often times in my case it might be something like “sick.” Sick spelled backwards is Kcis, like kiss. Kinda weird I guess. Anxiety spelled backwards is yteixna. Stomach would be hcamots. It could probably help if I remember to try it.

-For self, I can ask myself “Who is noticing that” to help understand it is ME noticing something right here in the present moment. It can help reach out and remind myself that I am a conscious person in the here and now, not an NPC with a story and certain character traits.

-For acceptance, I can use my fear to fuel progress. I can ask myself “Where does my mind say I cannot go?”, and then do that as a form of exposure. Ideally I’ll do this playfully, like a game. This one should be easy for me. Its a HUGE problem that daily there are things I want to do but I think “no you can’t do that, it’s too risky or breaks your safety rules.” Simple things like dedicating time to friends or streaming. Or eating certain things that might disagree with my tummy. Or going outside to another location.

-For presence I can listen to music and try to focus my attention completely on different instruments. I’m going to do it with a Twitch stream instead since I already have one on. I can try switching my focus in between the speaker and game music.

-For values, I can think up a time that was especially sweet in one of the value areas. I’m going to pick friendships. Im supposed to think about what this event says about the qualities of being or doing I want to put in the world. This is basically vent art I guess so I’ll try that.

I picked a set of times I really felt connected to my closest friends. I feel cared for, and a genuine love towards them. I feel like I truly belong. Sometimes its the whole squad, sometimes it’s only one of them.

Im realizing I should try to identify these exercises earlier in the day so I can refer back to them as needed. Some of these need to be practiced outside of this hour I give myself. For now I’ll continue reading further into the book where I haven’t yet.

Finally, let’s talk about this Turning Point (The Thing (1983) #3)

There is so much here… but going in order

So Lockjaw chose to take Crystal to Ben out of all Fantastic Four members, and later it is confirmed that it was likely because Ben was the one most likely to understand what was at stake. I do wonder if it was Lockjaw’s choice, or someone else’s (more on this later). I do believe Lockjaw shows enough intelligence to be able to understand what is going on, and probably even has his own opinion on terrigenesis in general…

Have I said I love the friendship between the inhumans and the Fantastic Four? I don’t follow the FF but I love what they represent. I love that the royal family doesn’t hesitate to ask for their help. And I love that the writers took a moment to remember their friendship here

Current canon rules were still not established back them. So at this point some inhumans were born with powers and some without, and the latter went through terrigenesis?? Fascinating

Medusa is not fighting for Crystal but she does agree with her. The way it’s worded, it feels like this is the first big conflict between her and BB. He seems not only pained but surprised, so could she have not even voice her opinion before? Did she just stand by his choice, feeling she should not go against him? Did she go with his choices even when disagreeing before, in minor issues?

It is interesting that this parallels their fight in By Right of Birth (which is not far after). In both BB follows the law, in both Medusa has a different view of what’s right, in both the issue has to do with the patriarchy and women’s rights.

I didn’t read the issue but the wikia says it’s later revealed the whole thing with Lockjaw speaking was Gorgon’s and Karnak’s doing to make Pietro give up

So Gorgon and Karnak did support Crystal, but didn’t confront BB or Pietro about this, deciding instead to take matters in their own hands

Gorgon and Karnak did more to support Crystal than Medusa did (though Medusa’s choice probably say more about her own views of her “duty” and stuff than about how much she cares for Crystal or her own views on Luna going through terrigenesis)

There’s no mention of Triton so we can’t be sure if he agreed with Pietro’s choice, if he thought law should be followed no matter what, or if he didn’t want to express his own opinion

Considering that he had the most drastic transformation among the royal family, there is a big chance that the others are thinking of him when thinking of what could go wrong. Or that at least he would think they were thinking of him. How does he feel about it??

Um, so to start off, let's address the fact that Jeronica are being consistently portrayed as pathetic this season! V is pining after Bald meanwhile Jarhead is making up Bughead edits in his head. The question is...why? Like why still? Is stuff like that supposed to be a Bughead or Varchie crumb? Bc at this point, it would only count as such if it came from Barchie's pov. Why can't they just drop it and let Jeronica actually move on? Jughead ignores Tabby for weeks on end, and V is worried about who's endgame during the apocalypse. Like um, ladies...snap out of it!

Kinda just seems mean-spirited at this point, too. Like Roberto Sasquatch is bitter bc they had to do 4 seasons of BugVarchie since he was too much of a coward to go against fanservice for the Bughead stans. So now they have to rub it in every chance they get and make Jughead and Veronica (mostly Veronica) look like fools. I mean, look at her performance in this ep...girl! Can't even defend that, sweets. Most cringe since her rendition of "Carry the Torch" when she didn't know who it was about. And she's gonna go on about "I'm a glorified party planner and have no social life...but I'm fighting for my friends!" Like how do those things go together, V? It's true, everyone only goes to you when they need something. Someone please get this girl some actual friends. She's having a nervous breakdown! Here's to the ladies who lunch! Please have mercy on my girl during these difficult times.

And it's all to overcompensate for their bad writing and lack of build up for Barchie in the first place. Their s5 plot made no sense. Archie chose Veronica in the Next to Normal ep and even wanted to be just casual w her before he even considered Betty, just like how he chose a chance to pursue a married Veronica who may not even be interested over pursuing something serious w Betty. Do I think this should have even happened? Not really. Varchie never should have even been a thing after the time jump, and they should have just started w Barchie and given Archie's "love triangle w Chad" plot to Reggie. But Varchie is what they chose to write, so...they can't just act like things didn't happen how they did. And this is from someone that genuinely did and wants to like Barchie as a couple, but the story they're giving them is only good if you make it up in your head - if you just ship the IDEA of Barchie instead of paying attention to what they actually say and do on screen. It's obvious that Betty is and always has been in love w the Scarlet Beast, but when will he show anything toward her that is strictly romantic and can't be interpreted as just a deep love and friendship bond? They are best friends and there is a sexual element, but where is the romantic element? He's never been afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve in the past. I disagree that Betty is the one holding back. Archie didn't dump Veronica specifically for Betty (which would have been more meaningful). He was just certain that he wanted to stay in Riverdale since he gave up on his individual desires and wants to exist as the thematic embodiment of Fred. But is he certain that Betty is the one he wants to build a life with? If so, I would like him to demonstrate that instead of it just seeming like he decided to give it a go bc they both decided to stay in Riverdeuce.

Another thing is why do they have to act so high and mighty about killing Percival? Hiram only stopped after he was dead. Nothing but death can stop these types of all-powerful, relentless villains. Plus, not everyone has the privilege to be so morally perfect, valuing principles over people. Archie is lucky that Grenade Heather knows Sabrina or else his reluctance to kill would have just resulted in the deaths of half the townspeople. Is it not worth getting a little blood on your hands to save the people and town you care about? I'm sure the show will find a loophole where they won't have to kill him and can win anyway, but still! Meanwhile, Betty just killed someone last episode. I hope his morals aren't too black and white for someone like her bc I don't want her to be on pins and needles, worried about fucking up bc Archie will change his view of her if she does. And if he doesn't, then he's a crypohit!

Anyways, like Toni finna be rude as hell to V all last season then come ask her to plan a last-minute wedding? Da fuq? And ask Cheryl to officiate? She was highkey a jerk this ep! Omg and Fangs' vows? It was like half a sentence, girl, and u had to write it down? Does anyone even like Fangs anymore? I feel like ya'll just liked him bc of Sweet Pea and when ppl pretended to care about Kangs. Told yinz he should've stayed dead in s2 that one time!

P. S. I think everyone died at the reception bc they all thought back to V's performance and just couldn't take it. Also, why were everyone's outfits so ugly this ep? Js.

I'm really sorry if it will trigger someone but I have to finally say it. The last two months I was coming to that statement and no matter how difficult it was for me to admit this, I have to finally do this.

Kpop is fake. Yes, for some of you it might be nothing new, you probably already knew that but some of you have yet to see this. I saw it only now. After four years of being delusional to believe idols are showing us their real selfs. I wouldn't be more wrong. What I saw until now was not real. It never was. Kpop groups = Business. It's nothing more than that. Groups are made by a company, music for said groups is chosen by a company, concept is chosen by a company as well. Idols clothing is chosen by their stylists that are hired by a company. Idols hairstyle is chosen by their hairdresers that are hired by a company. It's company that decides what their idols can say, it's company that decides how their artists public persona will look like. It's company that decides whether their idols can date or not. It's all about what their company wants. It's company that promotes fanservice. It's company that controls idols lives. Idols themselfs are like robots. They are training for years supposedly to improve their vocal and dancing skills. But it's much more than that.

For years or month idols are learning how to act, how to behave, what they can say and what they can't, with who they can be friendly and with who they can't, how fanservice looks like - it's all about what company wants. And therefore they are selling us beautiful, young and talented robots without a life of their own. They are controled by their company 24/7. They all have their own fake personalities that appeals to the public. We have a sexy one, a sweet one, a cute one, a cold one, a funny one, a talented one and a leader. I can't be the only one that noticed this. They are all the same, always perfect, without any flaws - exactly how their fans like it. They are all friendly with each other, treating each other like family or flirting with each other, acting like couples and more - but not because they want to. They are like this because this warm family-like image sells well. Because people likes the idea of cute young people being all sweet and friendly with each other. If some bandmates would openly dislike each other, this image would crumble and honestly would you support the group with a knowledge that some members dislike each other? Before I probably wouldn't, how about you?

Kpop groups are literally a bunch of young people, completely not knowing each other, putted in one band. There's different personalities and shit idols are only people. I really doubt they are all best friends only because they are in one group. If anything I would be really feed up with people I have to live with and see literally everyday. I don't believe in friendship between idols. After all show business is all about rivalry, competition. It's much easier to believe they dislike or some even despise each other.

I also don't believe in romantic ships between idols. I used to think some of them might be innocently flirting with each other and also I didn't want to be so closed off so I believed some same sex couple exists in kpop industry. But now even that seems fake. Now all I see is fanservice. Fanservice sells well, I never noticed it before but now looking at two really popular bg I see it's not as impossible as I thought. Fanservice = Popularity.

BTS most popular members are Taehyung and Jungkook. The most popular ship is Vkook.

EXO most popular members are Chanyeol and Baekhyun. The most popular ship is Chanbaek.

Why those ships are the most popular? Because those members have the most moments together. People say it's the proof they are together. But why would they act this way and risk their careers only for a few moments together? It doesn't make sense for me.

I'm dissapointed in myself for believing for so long in that perfect idol image. I'm dissapointed in myself that it took me so long to realise I was manipulated all this time by korean music companies and this perfect idol's image that is nothing more but fake and directed.

I still remember how video with Wanna One with them complaining about their situation and them acting like many young people got leaked. I really think that's how many other korean idols are in private. That's them being normal people with flaws. Eating, shitting, swearing, feeling emotions other than happiness and gratefulness for being an idol.

I will end this rant now. I already said what zi wanted to. Agree or not if you want but I had to say it. I hope no one got offended or something. And if you did then sorry.

you’re so golden (corpse x reader)

Summary: You’re a faceless youtuber that sings cover songs. What happens when a certain faceless streamer slides into your DMs after you cover one of his songs?

Authors note: Part 3 whoop! I havent written fic in 3 years so Im hoping this is okay. Its about 4000 words, super long, sorry. I also dont play Among Us, but hopefully its not too obvious. Lemme know what you think!

You're nervous, though you aren’t quite sure why. The kind of nervousness that spreads to your feet, causing you to tap your toes against the side of your sofa.

Call you in 15.

You look at the message again, staring at it till the screen goes blurry. Rubbing your eyes you exhale into the emptiness of your apartment; a feeble attempt at calming yourself down.

Logically it’s stupid to be nervous over a phone call. Logically you know that in the grand scheme of the universe, there are bigger things at hand. But you’re not a logical person, never have been. You’re all heart and emotion, both a blessing and a curse. There’s something intimate about a phone call, to have nothing but someone’s voice on the other end of the phone, talking to you and only you. It was a little scary; to think your purely online friendship with Corpse was going to be taken to a different level. You’re excited to think what that could mean.

“Fucking get it together,” you mutter to no-one as you exhale again, because there’s nothing else to do other than to wait and try to breath. There’s this frantic energy about you; like when you eat fizzy sweets, the flavour buzzing on your tongue. Your ancestors used to hunt wolves and here you were nervous over a single phone call.

The silence in your apartment’s too much now; too noisy. You grab your TV remote, clicking onto Spotify to find something. You’re scrolling so much, none of the artists feeling quite right for the moment before settling on Sufjan Stevens.

The dulcet tones fill the space, and for a brief second, you feel fine. You’re feeling relaxed and then your phone lights up.

Incoming Facetime Audio

“Fuckfuckfuckfuck” you say. Your face feels warm, your heart quickens in your chest. You could just ignore it, say you’re not feeling too good and that would be that, you wouldn’t have to do this. But it’s Corpse, you like Corpse and you’re kind of friends.

You swipe to accept the call, and press the button for speaker.

“Hey,” you say, cringing at the meek tone your voice has taken on.

“Hey,” Corpse’s deep voice rumbles through your tiny speaker, distorting slightly and you press the volume button to turn it down a little.

There’s a beat of silence, a beat too long, and you already hate how awkward this is. You’re not great at social stuff, the concept of being a social butterfly is almost foreign to you. And it’s not because you dislike people, it’s just you hate this; the small talk, the awkwardness before you get comfortable and can hold an actual conversation.

You suddenly remember a tip from your customer service days. “How are you?” you ask, plastering on a grin so wide that it must look borderline demented. Thank god you’re single.

“I’m okay thanks, how are you?” he asks.

You lounge back against the soft cushions of the sofa, lifting the phone up to your mouth as you do so. “I’m good, excited to be taught by the Among Us master.”

He snorts in disdain. “Hardly a master.”

You chew your lip before you speak again, “I dunno, people on the internet think you’re pretty good.”

He snorts again, and you smile at the sound. It’s not something you’ve heard from him before, through your hours of watching his streams, you’ve become accustomed to his voice and the noises he makes. But this one seems to be new. And maybe it’s the weird, selfish part of you that likes to think he’s only ever made that sound for you. You shake the thought out of your head, because really? Getting happy over a snort is really such a ridiculous thing to do.

“People on the internet say a lot of things.”

“True, but sometimes they speak the truth,” you reply, moving to get more comfortable; tucking your feet under your thighs. You wonder what he’s doing right now as he talks to you, is he sitting down? Or is he lying on his bed; his head propped up with pillows? There’s a brief flash of yearning, of wanting to be there in the same room as him, but it disappears as quickly as it appeared so you ignore it.

“Hm. We’ll agree to disagree.”

“Okay, you’re the boss Mr Husband.”

He chuckles softly, and again, you smile. You can feel yourself getting annoyed with yourself; you’re acting like a child with a crush; smiling at the phone. All you needed now was a notebook that had Mrs YN Husband written all over it.

“You know if you keep calling me that, we’re gonna have to get married,” he says, his voice a little lower than it was before. You blink and cock your head to the side, looking at an imaginary camera like you’re in The Office. Did you say that out loud? Is he...flirting with you? Sure, you’re flirty over Twitter, but it’s Twitter, Twitter isn’t real. There’s a fluttery feeling in your stomach at the mere prospect that he might actually be flirting with you.

“I’d be the best wife you could ever get,” you shoot back. There’s a brief second of silence before he answers, and you can hear shuffling on the other end. You want to ask what he’s doing, but you know it would break the conversation, and you’re curious to see where this goes.

“Oh really? And why’s that?” he asks, and you can picture the smirk in his voice. You have no idea what he looks like, no real care about it either, but you bet he’s got a beautiful smile. You bite your tongue before it tells him this, for once your brain actually works and stops you from making a fool out of yourself. It’s incredibly strange, how quickly he puts you at ease without a try, he’s just so naturally comforting. He’s not this flashy persona, he’s just a guy who likes to play video games and happens to be kinda good at them. And also has a voice that is literally like chocolate. Not just chocolate; dark chocolate. If dark chocolate could talk, it would sound like Corpse.

“Cos your girl can cook,” you say proudly, puffing out your chest a little. And that’s not a lie, you can cook. Okay, you’re not a Michelin starred chef, but you feel quite confident in the fact that Gordon Ramsey could eat your food, and probably (hopefully) wouldn’t scream that it was “fucking raw”.

“And what would you cook for me?” he asks.

You hum in thought for a second. “You’ll have to marry me first to find that out.”

He laughs, a proper laugh that settles in your stomach, spreading warmth through your chest. “I’ll think about it. I can hear music, what are you listening to?”

You straighten up a little, the question catching you off guard. You bite the inside of your cheek as you look at the song that’s playing. It’s not his type of music, you’re almost positive about that. You almost don’t want to tell him out of embarrassment. You’re not sure why you feel embarrassed; you know Corpse isn’t an asshole, he wouldn’t make fun of you. But music is so personal to you, so personal, it’s like baring a piece of your soul; which sounds so fucking cliche, but it’s true.

“Uhhh...It’s called Make out in My Car by Sufjan Stevens,” you reply.

He hums in affirmation. “It sounds nice; from what I can hear.”

“I can turn it up?” you ask, leaning forward to grab the remote off the coffee table.

“You could always sing some for me,” he offers.

You laugh a little, scrunching up your nose. “And why would I do that?”

“I thought you wanted to get married. You have to woo me,” he replies.

“Woo you?” you ask, your tone incredulous. This isn’t how you pictured the conversation going.

“Yeah. Woo me, yn.” he says, dragging out the “o” causing you to laugh again.

You sigh dramatically. “I haven’t warmed up or anything, it’s gonna sound so bad” you warn as you put the song to the beginning.

“I’m sure you sound great. Go ahead, woo me.”

You shake your head as you softly sing. “I'm not trying to go to bed with you, I just wanna make out in my car. And though I'm dying to fall in love with you, I just wanna make out in my car”. You stop and you’re suddenly very aware that you have essentially just serenaded him. Good going, brain.

It’s silent for a beat too long, and the smile that graced your lips starts to fade as the embarrassment starts to set in.

“Well now we definitely have to get married,” he affirms. And there’s that fluttery feeling again.

You swallow, moving the conversation swiftly onto Among Us. You grab your laptop that was next to you, humming in acknowledgement as he walks you through downloading it.

“So there’s a few of us joining us tonight, it should be really fun.”

“Oh. It’s not just us two?” you ask. You focus on the download, watching the number increase. You’re nervous at the prospect of playing with other people, strangers, for the first time.

“No, it’s a 4 player minimum. We’re going to stream as well.”

“Corpse…” you start. You begin to pick at the skin around your nails, a habit you do whenever you get really anxious. This was meant to just be a cute moment where you learnt how to play a game, not a big event where people would be actually watching you, judging your every move.

“We’re going to do a few games off stream with you, you don’t need to be there for the stream after if you don’t want to,” he interrupts.

“Okay,” you trail off, your teeth biting down on your bottom lip. You feel a little better, but not by much. You didn’t know who the other people were, what if they hated you? You ask this out loud.

“I’ll be there. You know Rae and Sykkuno. Felix, Sean and Toast will be there but they’re super nice, I promise.” His voice is sincere, and it soothes you. You don’t know him, not really know him, but you trust Corpse. You know he has his own struggles, and you believe his promise; he wouldn’t screw you over or put you in a situation you were uncomfortable with.

The rest of the call is him taking you through how to play and how to set up something called Proximity Chat so everyone can talk to each other in the game. He says it’s easier once you actually play, and it doesn’t sound particularly hard quite honestly, you just hope you don’t get imposter on the first try because you’re not the greatest liar.

The game screen pops up, and you type in the code that Corpse gives you. You say goodbye to Corpse, who tells you to text him if you need any help. You drop into the game lobby, and you look at the little astronaut. There’s no time to dwell as a cacophony of voices hits you.

“YN!” Rae screeches and you chuckle at her enthusiasm. You’ve known Rae for a few years now, you met at college and had become fast friends. Though you had many different interests - gaming for one, you considered her your best friend. Rae was the type of friend where you didn’t need to talk every single day, you could message her a week later and it would be like no time had passed at all. And you loved that, sometimes you just didn’t want to talk to anyone. Sometimes your mood wasn’t the best, and you needed a little time to recharge. And she understood that, something that you were eternally grateful for.

“Raebies!” you screech back, using your “pet” name for her.

“I’ve been trying to get you to play forever. But Mr Smooth Operator over there slides into your DMs and suddenly you’re a gamer now?”

“It sounds so sordid when you say it like that,” you reply.

“Hi yn! Glad to see you playing with us,” Sykkuno says. You greet him and the others, making sure to say hi to everyone in the game. You didn’t want to start off by being accidentally rude. You listen as everyone talks amongst each other, and you talk when spoken to, but you aren’t interjecting. It wasn’t anything against the other players, it was just a little overwhelming, and you were figuring out what everyone was like.

“Hello,” Corpse’s voice interrupts your train of thought and you greet him along with everyone else.

“Aw, I wanted purple,” you say, frowning at Corpse’s name above the astronaut.

“We can switch,” he replies.

“No it’s o -” you start to speak before you realise he’s already switched to white. “Thank you, you didn’t have to.” You smile as you switch to purple, and you decide to add a flower for a little pizzazz.

“It’s your first game, I’ll kill you if I get imposter so it’ll even out,” he jokes and everyone laughs. The countdown begins and you puff your cheeks out, exhaling as it gets to 1. You’re nervous again, a seemingly common theme of the night. Your shoulders relax as the word CREWMATE flashes across the screen.

You watch as everyone but Corpse disperses from the cafeteria with haste, and you look at the keyboard to press the buttons to move.

“You ever see an old person text? That’s how I’m picturing you right now,” Corpse says as you walk together to Weapons.

“Shut up Sonny,” you reply in your best old woman voice, getting a laugh. You open up the task, shooting the Asteroids with ease. “Yay, I completed a task!”

“Good job,” Corpse replies, and you beam at the praise. You move down to o2, doing your task while Corpse does his.

“Wait, you could be imposter right? How would I know?” you ask as you walk together to Navigation.

“You wouldn’t, you just have to trust me,” he says, his voice full of charm.

You scowl. “Well that just makes me not want to trust you.”

Before he replies, there’s a blaring alarm. DEAD BODY REPORTED. You blink at the suddenness; you were really enjoying the relaxing pace of the game. You look at the screen; Felix has been killed.

“Who found the body?” Corpse asks.

“I did,” Rae answers. “I was in admin, and was going to lower engine and it was there in storage.”

“If you were in admin, why didn’t you go up through Cafeteria?” Toast asks.

“Because it’s quicker to go through storage,” Rae replies. They argue between themselves, and you listen intently and silently. It’s a lot of information, you can’t tell whose lying, but you guess that’s what makes a good player.

“Where were you yn?” Sean quizzes, and it takes you a second to realise you’re being spoken to.

“Oh. I was in um o2?”

“You don’t sound too sure there, pretty sus,” he says. Your face heats up a little, you’re not the imposter, but it feels like you are.

“She was in o2 and then we went to Navigation,” Corpse answers, and you breathe out as he takes on the interrogation.

“Oh you were together?” Rae asks, and you know that tone she’s got. It’s the tone that says she’ll be messaging you right away.

“Well yeah, it’s her first game, I’m not gonna leave her alone,” he says and you smile at that.

“Yeah we’ve been together the whole time,” you add and it’s left at that. No-one votes anyone out, since no-ones really too suspicious. You carry on the game, and you find yourself really enjoying it, though the questioning part is kind of stressful. You can see why Corpse likes it so much, it’s really fun. You’re in electrical, humming as you do your task when Rae comes next to you.

“Hey,” you greet her.

“I’m sorry, nothing personal,” she replies. Before you have a chance to say a word, she kills you and you look on in shock as your ghost floats above your body. You listen into the meeting as Rae continues to lie and plead her case. She’s good, but Corpse knows better.

“Wait, you said you found her in electrical and you were where?”

“I was in Upper Engine, and then I went to electrical to do my task,” Rae answers, her voice even and calm.

“I was in Lower Engine, and I didn’t see you,” Corpse says, and you grin at the fact Rae’s been found out. That’s what she gets for killing you.

“You were doing your task, I passed right by you,” Rae starts. She pleads her case, but it’s too late and she’s voted out.

“That was so much fun!” you declare. “I can see why you guys play it all the time.”

“Yes! We have converted another!” Felix shouts in victory.

“And all it took was Corpse,” Rae mutters sarcastically.

“Don’t get bitter Rachel, just get better,” you reply, causing the group to laugh.

You get the hang of it after a few games, and find yourself agreeing to stay while the others stream, though you decide against it yourself. You’ve only streamed once by yourself, and it was a very casual affair and you don’t want to feel too much pressure while you enjoy yourself. You know that Corpse gets nervous when he streams and he’s been doing it for so much longer, so you can only imagine how nervous you would be.

You tap your fingernails against the keyboard as the lobby counts down, any previous nerves have been replaced with excitement.

IMPOSTER flashes across. You’re the only one, your astronaut looks lonely on the screen by itself, and the red letters almost taunt you.

“Shit,” you mutter as your brain goes into overdrive. What was it Corpse had said before? Not to be too obvious. You don’t kill immediately, instead going at your previous pace to not look too suspicious. You were still fairly new to the game, and you were going to use that to your advantage.

You fake your task in Cafeteria before venting over to Navigation where Toast was.

“Hi Toast!” you greet, coming to stand next to him as you pretend you’re doing the task.

“Oh hey yn,” he says. It doesn’t seem like he suspects you, and you’re not quite sure when to click the Kill button. You do it anyway before running out and going down and into shields. There’s adrenaline running through you as the dead body’s reported and you crack your knuckles before putting on your game face. You were going to play dumb, play the confused newbie - because to them, that’s what you were.

“YN, where were you?” Corpse asks. Fuck. Maybe you weren’t going to get away with this.

You twiddle your hair as you draw out your words, playing the role perfectly. “Uhm I was in...shields? I think that’s what it’s called. I was in the cafeteria before that though.”

“Wait, you couldn’t have, I was in weapons. I would have seen you,” Sykkuno says.

You open your mouth to talk. “She could have vented,” Felix comments, and the rest of the group starts to agree.

“Guys, I don’t even know what venting is. I literally just started playing,” you point out, giggling.

“That’s true,” Rae agrees and you knew there was a reason you loved her.

“Bullshit! She’s playing you with her “oh I don’t know how to play” schtick,” Felix proclaims.

“Aw, that’s kind of rude, Felix. I’m just enjoying the game, doing the tasks,” you say, pouting a little. He’s the next on your list.

Everyone skips the vote and you lean over your laptop, ready for the next round. You were going to win this. You kill Rae and Toast next, and yet again, manage to worm your way out of any suspicion. You can sense that Corpse and Felix are starting to get suspicious of you, and you know you need to bring out the big guns to throw them off.

You catch Sykkuno in Med Bay after checking the cams in Security.

“Hi yn!” he greets, and you almost feel guilty as you kill him. He’s so sweet and innocent, but unfortunately, casualties are a given. You pass Felix as he comes out of reactor and it’s only a matter of time before you’ll have to talk your way out of this one again.

“I passed yn as I came out of reactor,” Felix shouts with a hint of glee.

You roll your eyes; this is going to be tough. “Yeah I came from Upper Engine, I was finishing part 2 of a task.”

“I was in Electrical, where was the body?” Corpse asks.

“Med Bay. And the only one that could’ve been there was yn,” Felix starts.

“Well no, you could have passed me and killed Sykkuno then self reported,” you reply. “I think you can do that right?”

Corpse hums in agreement. “Oh come on! She’s being really sus,” Felix argues.

“You are being a little sus yn,” Corpse comments.

“Corpse. You don’t really think it’s me do you?” You decide to lower your voice a little, your tone sweet but sultry. “You only taught me like an hour ago, there’s no way I’d be able to fool everybody so quickly.” You get close to the mic so it’s like you’re speaking only to Corpse. “Remember what I said? You’re a master at this.” You’re laying it on thick, and for a brief second you think you’ve been too over the top.

“This is difficult,” Corpse says, and you see the seconds count down, your heartbeat starts to quicken.

“Corpse, stop being a fucking simp and vote her out!” Felix demands.

“Corpsie baby,” you drawl out and you smile in success as you hear him sigh, almost shakily. You’ve got this in the bag. The victory screen flashes up and you cheer.

“Fuck yeah!” you shout, patting yourself on the back. You laugh as you exhale the breath you didn’t know you were holding.

“Good game yn!” Sykkuno comments, the others agreeing.

“Not fair, you used your womanly wiles against Corpse,” Felix says.

“Gotta use them for something. Not my fault Corpse knows where his allegiance lies,” you reply laughing a little.

You stretch, your back crying out in pain from being hunched over so long. You let out a long, loud moan of relief as you straighten your spine, your shoulders relaxing as you move from side to side.

“Your mic’s not muted” Corpse points out, clearing his throat. You feel your stomach drop and your face instantly becomes hot. Shit.

“Oh. Uh. I totally forgot about that,” you say, forcing out a chuckle. You screw your eyes shut, any happiness has been now replaced by red hot shame. “So this was fun, uh, really fun, but um, I’m gonna, I’m gonna go. So...yeah. Bye guys, have fun!”

You click to exit without giving anyone a chance to say a word, and drop your head into your hands.

“Can’t wait to see what they say on Twitter about this,” you mutter into your hands.
