Vanessa X Reader. Nightmares

The flash of headlights ran past the window blinds, before disappearing. You share awake in the dark bedroom, you were reading a book with a little lamp attached to it so you could see. You were never the best at sleeping, you would rather stay up and take care of Vanessa. She needed you, you needed her.

You stomach growled, you sat up and sighed, getting out of bed, placing your book down open. You didn’t really eat much all day, and it was finally catching up to you. You staggered into the kitchen, digging through the pantry to find something to eat. You settled on some cereal. The small wheat circles landed in the bowl with little thuds, and you turned to open the fridge to get the milk out, before hearing a blood curdling scream coming from the bed room.

“ Y/N? Y/N? “

Vanessa was shouting, you dropped everything and ran to her. She was standing next to the bed, gripping the small pocket knife she kept on the table besides her incase anything happened.

“ Vanessa! Jesus I’m right here, what happened-? “

“ I-i thought he..he was…”

You slowly approached her, gently taking the knife from her hand, closing it and putting it back on the table.

“ did you have the dream again? “

“ nightmare.”

“ yes, sorry. The nightmare. “

Vanessa nodded, you gently held her face, and gave it soft kisses. You both sat down on the bed, holding eachother tightly.

“ do you wanna talk about it..? “

Vanessa nodded. You laid down and let her lay next to you, holding you close to her. It was her favorite position to talk about things.

“ he was in the house. W-William- “

“ you don’t need to say his name..I know. “

“ w-well..he was in the house…h-he said he was going to..t-to kill you..he was gonna put you in a suit like he did the k-kids I…and then I woke up and you where gone. “

You held her face, and kissed it gently.

“ I was getting some cereal to eat..I’m sorry I scared you, I was just starving. “

Vanessa hugged you tighter, and she wouldn’t let go. You kissed her head gently, and played with her hair, wrapping you both up in the blanket.

“ I’ll stay here all night, I’ll keep you safe Vanessa. “

“ I want you to sleep too…”

“ I’ve gotta take care of you though ness…”

Vanessa lifted her head up, and kissed you, before laying her head on your chest.

“ take care of me in the morning, sleep with me now…”

You smiled, and snuggled into her, wrapping your arms tightly around her. For the first time in what felt like years, you slept peacefully, because she was with you.

I saw a post a couple days ago that I really wish I reblogged and now I can’t find it. It talked about how to combat the feeling of being unproductive. So unproductive that you can’t seem to be able to do anything, even your own interests. That feeling can stem from taking a break and you can’t seem to come back from it, or you’re just out of energy/spoons or depressed. Their solution seemed too good to be true.

Do just one thing.

I tried it. I have been doing the dishes. That’s my one thing. I haven’t been able to make myself do anything else but for the past 4 days I have done whatever dishes are there. At first it was too many so I saved some for the next day. That was still too many so I saved some for the next day. And I kept doing it until I had no more to do.

It’s dishes, and I might only have just done some fucking dishes but that feeling went away. The feeling of not being able to do something. The unproductive rut that is hard to get out of.

I don’t fully understand the psychology behind it but just doing the dishes has led me to be able to do one of my hobbies, like writing. I’ve wrote more in the past 4 days than I have in the past 3 months. I’ve even started to think about trying to do more than just the dishes. Maybe tomorrow I can do the dishes and clean the floors.

Will I be able to? I don’t know but I’m going to try. And even if I can’t I’ll just do the dishes for now.
