⛔️ Traditionnally game studios have always locked creation tools...

✅️ The truth is - there is a number of programs that allow creation of your own visual novels. Some of them require few or no codding. They can be googled in a snap.

For example Game Maker Studio and Ren'Py: Visual Novel Engine(a free one)

⛔️ If you wanted to work on a game like The Arcana you had to work at a big studio.

✅️ The Arcana was once started by two people and developer's team grew according to it's success.

✅️ A number of The Arcana fans successfully started as gamedevs. Lunaris Games make a fine quality games, the first of them, When The Night Comes has love interests, that once were fan apprentices(100% - Ezra and Alkar).

Both Nix Hydra and Lunaris games started as cool Idea, nice art, enthusiasm and then they got a sorta-kickstarter and took off.

If you are willing to create something original and of your own you don't necessarily need a agregator platform for more than a starter.

If you are a creator, don't sell yourself cheap.

Doing something out of fandom enthusiasm is always great, but please remember that they need you more than you need them.

No matter how fondly they will ever speak of it, the main thing is - Nix Hydra is not over for nothing, they can't afford hiring fully anymore. Currently they do not offer you full payment for your work, however they plan profiting on whatever you might do, and by such messages they make you believe you are lucky with such an opportunity.

Please be aware, confident and safe, my darlings. You don't need some werid "empowerment" you are the power.

I am writing this post out of pure frustration for Dorian as it seems they won't touch the Last Legacy IP with a 5 foot pole so.

I suggest we take the IP into our own hands, and start doing the world building ourselves, I think it would be interesting to see different pantheons and stuff people come up with.

We need to take matters into our own hands and create content for people by people as Dorian and their godawful management clearly failed to do that.

Honestly y'all, go batshit insane with the lore, no matter how preposterous it is, anything is better than constant radio silence from Dorian.

a while back there was a post going around about the company Dorian acquiring the rights to the vampire chronicles, and people were poking fun at it, saying anne rice must be rolling in her grave, given that Dorian is basically the wattpad of visual novels (in that they provide assets, and their users make VN fanfiction using them and put them up to be read on their app; it even has a predatory profiting-off-their-users-while-barely-compensating-them business model like wattpad!) and anne rice was famously anti-fanfiction

and i made fun of it too at the time. but also around the same time, dorian also acquired the arcana and last legacy (both IPs originally created by VN company Nix Hydra that dorian snatched up when nix hydra collapsed)

and after seeing how the dorian acquisition changed the arcana/last legacy fandoms, it's become clear to me that dorian acquiring rights to the vampire chronicles was actually extremely in the spirit of anne rice's legacy. because dorian is notorious in the arcana/last legacy fandoms for relentlessly copyright striking any fanworks not produced within their glorified VN-based wattpad clone.

Oh I’m so glad you and plant anon agree with me on my vn red flags/icks! Like I said a lot of the red flags and icks I tend to have are really subjective so I get that some people will love what I kinda hate but it’s nice to see I’m not alone on stuff :)

Also, is it bad that I kinda wanna hear more about Heir to Love and Lie? I’ve never played any Fictif games but this sounds like some hot gossip I want in on, tell me more about how bad of a game it is lol. From an outsider perspective I think it’s kinda funny how it’s like “Yes the Fictif app has a bunch of great and fun stories with a ton of good content- NO DONT LOOK AT THAT STORY ITS HIDEOUS-” I know the stories are probably made by different teams so it makes sense that there’s differences in quality but still

Last Legacy and now Roadkill have peaked my interest since I’ve seen you talk about it here (I had never heard of Fictif at all before) but I’ve been a little hesitant to give the games a try because they’re mobile games and frankly I’m not the biggest fan of playing vn style games on mobile, I used to all the time but the grinding for stuff like story keys just to get content that may or may not be good kinda grated on me so I stopped and haven’t looked back. But idk maybe I’ll decide to give Fictif a chance when I have the time, your love for the games are definitely convincing me to give it a shot :)

Ok so i’ll start by saying that you should def play roadkil, last legacy and monster manor on the fictif app, WITH A CRACKED VERSION! If you have an Android play with a mod app and you won’t have to pay for the special choice ( you still have to wait for keys tho but it’s manageable) I personally use Modyolo. With the mod there is no grind, you just wait for your keys to regenerate to play the chapters.

Why you should play last legacy ? Last legacy is a really well written fantasy romance made by queers, for queers with good queers characters. The narrative is limited but realize that fans of this game haven’t had update in 2 years and we all still love this, that how good the game is for us. What I really appreciate is the approach of the romance, the well-written worldbuilding, and the interesting plot and evolution of the li throughout the story + bonus points the art is really pretty + the music is awesome

This is an otome where you feel the passion of the dev because of all the details and care they put into the characters. It sad that we’ll never get an ending but just because it’s my second favorite otome after Our life i really recomand.

Now another wonderful story on the app is Monster manor. It’s a reviseted tale of beauty and the beast where mc is a reparator that come helps the resident of the manor to fix the place and also fix their issue. Again it’s very well written and although you can get subtile subtext on romance this one is very axed on exploring the character's mental health and their story of self-improvement. ALSO IT HAS A CANON TRANS DRAGON CREATURE WHO’S THE SWEETEST I LOVE HIM HE’S SO WHOLESOME-

Monster Manor is one of those stories that leave a very specific feeling in you. I don't know how to describe it but it just has a lot of wholesomeness and character going troughs sad but relatable problems that you see get better and makes you happy that they're healing.

THE BROMANCE OF THIS GAME IS SO GOOD I swear

Objectively: This game feels like a wild mess of fan fiction with random scenario after scenario and cliché horror moments, but oh man the ambiance. The best trio of Li, they are close friends, and in the 3 routes the group is just such an amazing friend group. The characters are lovely and it's like reading a bad yet good wattpad fanfic : well written ? no ? But the ideas ? good !

Like i said, this game is based on cliché of horror movies but also on american culture ( which I learned trought this game lol ). It has longer chapters than the other two games (except Tess but Tess got hit by the sexism of a greedy company that wants shirtless men in dating sim to attract gurls ) BUT they all shine.

Poe's route had me ugly crying in the end, Howie's ending is AWFULL but I had a great time, Tess is actually a superbe F Li even whith the dev having to cut her short and ruin her ending, she shine very britgh in the other routes and her own ( for ex she's the one with a shotgun and the one that won you and howie a teddy bear )

I really need more people to play roadkill because it's an underated banger in my opinion and it has many great scenes in the mess of scenarios ( the intro is really good for ecxemple )

Like, when I say not all game needs to be well written? That's what I'm talking about, this one is a hot delightful mess

In Look for Game Recs

Okay so I’ve been playing a few VNs to fill the Last Legacy gap in my life (one that could never truly be filled) and I’ve played Our Life BA (WHICH I CRIED MY EYES OUT TO, WTF COVE IS SO AMAZING 😭😭, I may thirst over fictional characters but Cove is legit the goal partner). And I’ve also played When the Night Comes. It’s a nice paranormal mystery that’s has a bunch of romance routes (even two poly routes, and one non romance route). Overall these have been pretty decent experiences and if anyone knows of any VNs that may be similar to LL, touchstarved, are the ones I listed, pls lmk!!

The only two other vn’s that i have played and liked are Blooming Panic (itch.io) and The Arcana (mobile app) Im sure you already know the arcana though since the devs worked on it etc etc. good luck though

Have I done any serious Lovecraft bashing in the last year or two? I feel like I’m overdue.

I’m almost positive I’ve sat down and written at least one big long post on the general subject of how there is nothing redeemable or interesting about H.P. Lovecraft, but I’ve also definitely seen another like hundred examples of people misrepresenting his influence and talent since, so, here’s another one.

See, there’s this popular myth that H.P. Lovecraft, despite being one of the all-time most virulent racists and quite open about it, was some kind of grand visionary who made all kinds of super important contributions to the horror genre, and... he just didn’t. Honestly I’d kinda want to burn down his legacy even if he did, because no for real, the racism was absolutely astounding. People’s jaws were on the floor about it even when he was alive. I feel pretty good about just completely throwing the whole output of right wing extremists in the dumpster like nazi game devs and such, so I don’t see why this should be different, but also for real, nothing of value is lost in doing so.

Like, first of all, he’s just a really bad writer. Really formulaic structure to all his stories, they all have basically the same protagonist and he sucks, tons of purple prose setting things up and then just kinda glossing over the main events, and dude really did just abuse the hell out of a thesaurus. And the subject matter’s not great either! In pretty much everything he ever wrote the big scary thing is kind of always just privileged white dude anxiety. “What if I’m not the center of the universe? What if I’m not actually a pure and noble white guy but I’m secretly the product of the dreaded race mixing? What if, like, a trans woman was kind of into me? What if I ad to deal with some other culture doing stuff I’m not comfortable with? There’s a couple that are more “starfish are just creepy” but it’s not a huge element in those and also I mean that’s just true.

There’s still the big influences though, right? Well, not really, no. Evil cults trying to bring back evil gods/monsters was totally ubiquitous way before Lovecraft. Super advanced space weirdos were too. Big freaky monsters doing sexual stuff with tentacles simply does not happen in any of his stuff. There’s no cool monsters really. Or people doing cool magic rituals. Just glancing at things and running away really. Like, guy wasn’t just unpopular in his day because he was a white supremacist scumbag, he also just couldn’t write well. I’m always pointing this out, but you realize Cthulu isn’t even actually much of anything in Lovecraft’s actual stories? The Call of Cthulu is mostly just this all build-up kind of story, with a couple people piecing a few random incidents into a vague semblance of an investigation, and at the end some big goofy sea monster starts to wake up from a coma and then... promptly has a ship plow into its head causing it to pass out again. That’s it. That’s the whole story. No big evil plans or minions or eating 1d6 investigators, no referencing in other stories. Basically everything in the pop culture “Lovecraftian” bubble is fan fiction, mostly tracing the route of “someone made a tabletop RPG vaguely inspired by other authors’ playing with this guy’s stuff which ended up being popular enough in Japan to be name dropped in some porn VNs, and people just kind of assume tracing that all the way back must lead to something good.”

This all made a lot more sense before/in the early days of the internet, where there was a sort of weird nerd elitism in knowing certain bits of obscure trivia and catching the right references. A lot of actually really talented horror people back in the day kind of got in the habit of referencing some memorably weird terms this one old racist tossed into stories that sometimes showed up in one of the oldest horror magazines one could find copies of if they really looked. In particular people found it really fun to keep referencing “the necronomicon” as like a pokedex for weird ancient monsters and occult stuff and made it enough of an in-joke to mislead people into thinking this was a real book. But the whole idea was you had to have access to this magazine from the 1920s to really be in on the joke. Stuff just kinda doesn’t work that way anymore. Wikis kinda killed being in the know on weird trivia connections.

The other thing though is people used to just do a little name drop of a book or a monster while doing their own stuff, and that’s fine, but now you have so damn many people doing “Lovecraftian” stuff where they more directly reference his better known stories, and there’s kinda this whole subgenre where people just run down that checklist. There’s dozens of “Lovecraftian horror” games where ooh, you’re some reedy nerd or detective and you go to this town called Innsmouth and people are suspicious and oh no they’re like fish people and they chase you around and you pass out or maybe find some weird idol and somehow or other you’re on this big mystery island and we’re directly quoting that “even death may die” line without context, and whispering voices tell you to poke at 7-pointed star symbols and oh no, you woke up Cthulu and he comes and eats you, credits. And like... it’s just running through the same checklist every time. It’s never informing a more original work, or putting interesting twists on things. It’s like how you used to have nerds just quoting whole scenes out of Monty Python and the Holy Grail or quoting catch phrases from Austin Powers or Borat. Just so incredibly tedious and pandering to people who don’t ask for anything more than having the references they know quoted back endlessly.

Anyway, point is, we really wouldn’t lose out on anything if we just freaking buried this one old racist hack. If you want to do some referencing and name dropping to weird spooky stuff that’s maybe from space or the ocean or whatever, there’s plenty of stuff you can shout out that’s actually good, and isn’t giving a certain kind of people to start grinning smugly and referencing what this guy named his cat. Like for real, any time you feel compelled to drop in some kind of Lovecraftian reference somewhere, just namedrop Junji Ito instead, or directly reference a short story of his. It’s all way more interesting and fleshed out and you’re just throwing a spotlight on someone who as far as I can tell is just a really nice talented artist who likes cats. Cats with names you can say out loud, even.

The heck is going on with chatgptdemo.net and giving the characters of FBI unneeded trauma, the wrong position/title, and other suff about them wrong

So I went to find a free version of Chat GPT because I'm not downloading the app which I found in ChatGPT VN (chatgptdemo.net) and me and my friend (we were on a vid call with each other) decided to ask if a few questions about science and Philippine history where we were satisfied with the answers.

So we ended the vid call and I made a new chat for just crime drama shit (because why not) and I asked a question about my fav tv show of all time aka Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (idc what others think it's a good show in my opinion) and another one about the 7th season of CSI: NY and the response was questionable since included stuff from earlier and later seasons (ie the f***ing blond b***h getting kidnaped, Mac proposing to said blond b***h [I'm a hardcore JAC shipper okay], Danny and Lindsay having Lucy, and etc.) which I just brushed off but oh was I wrong.

I then asked it about the characters of FBI and oh my gulay it did then s**t with departure episodes, cause of departure, positions/titles, and what they did before they joined the FBI all wrong and with a case where they gave the wrong name, another with the wrong actor, and one with a completely made up episode title and plot (the last two are from the same character). Character names will be found below the cut along with screen shots of the question I asked with the answer and my response to the answers they gave.

First "victim" was Dana Mosier

Right position/title, right episode right episode of departure, but wrong reason. This feels like they changed the plot of the season 1 finale and changed it to what I could only explain as a mash up between the basis of the episode "Scorched Earth" and a horrible fanfiction idea where Dana dies instead of retiring.

But Dana's not the only one they f***ed up on; they f***ed up on all the main characters plus Nina, Mona, and Rina who are only included because why not and also out of curiosity.

Second "victim" was Ellen Solberg (aka the one episode/day SAC)

They not only did they get her position/title wrong, but they also got her episode of departure and reason for departure wrong. First, she's also an SAC, second, she was ONLY in the pilot episode, and third she was only temporarily assigned there (or was she on a temporary assignment idk but I'm pretty sure it's the former).

Third "victim" was Rina Trenholm (aka the FBI's version of Linda Barnes)

They got her position/title and episode of departure wrong but surprisingly they got the reason for departure right aka she got killed got though the cause of death is wrong. Rina was not a forensic analyst she was instead the ADIC which is a big difference that I will not go into. She also didn't exit the show during the episode "Legacy" (or the 15th ep in the 2nd if you need to know the season/ep it was) and mind you Rina wasn't even introduced in the show yet. her actual episode of departure was in the episode "Unfinished Business" though technically it was announced she died in the next episode "Fostered". Lastly her cause of death wasn't that a group on nationalists murdered her (though the murder part was correct) she was actually, and I quote her wiki page 'killed on order of Antonio Vargas'.

Fourth "victim" was Kristen Chazal.

They got her position/title right (to some extent) though the season and reason for departure is wrong. Kristen was a FBI Special Agent in the second season though she was an analyst in the first. She also didn't leave in the second season but in between the second and third season and she didn't leave to take a job in the private sector but instead she transferred to the Dalas field office.

Fifth "victim" was Jubal Valentine

Technically they got his position/title right though everything else is wrong. They're right to say he's an Agent though if we are to dive into the specifics he's an Assistant Special Agent in Charge or ASAC for short. They got the (ex) wife and kids' part though instead of a car accident that impacted him and his family it was him and Sam (his [ex] wife) got divorced and I'm 85% sure that at some point during the third season it was the fact that Tyler (one of his kids) had cancer (leukemia specifically) that was the 'problem'.

Sixth "victim" was Maggie Bell

Yes, I specifically made the question about the serin gas incident. Everything about the first two 'paragraphs' where wrong. First the serin gas incident happened during the fourth season during the episode "Fear Nothing" and not in the first season during the episode "Exposed". Next the said incident didn't happen in the NYC subway station but in a lab of some sorts (didn't actually see the ep I only saw the trailer, okay?!). The third part though is most definitely correct since Maggie was able to make a full recovery and rejoin the team in the episode "Ready or Not".

Seventh "victim" was Mona Narari who is only on this list because I was curious

They sure as heck got her position/title wrong since she's not even an analyst but is a US Attorney in the show. Her last/latest episode is also wrong along with why she 'left' the show. Her last/latest ep was not "Invisible" (she wasn't even introduced yet) but was actually "Charlotte's Web" and she hasn't been seen on the show since then. Either because she and OA (who's up next) broke up or something else though I'm pretty sure it's the latter.

Eighth "victim" was Omar Adom "OA" Zidan (and yes I just used his whole name because why not)

I just asked who OA was in general since I couldn't think of anything that happened to his (probably because I'm very forgetful). They got his position/title right but the whole 'former US Marshal' this is completely cap... well at least the US Marshal part since he was a Army Ranger before he joined the FBI. Everything else seams to check out which means that so far his "bio" is the closest to canon.

Ninth "victim" was Nina Chase

Before anyone kills me, what happened to Nina during the triple crossover event just popped into my head. Anyways they got her position/title, her surname, what happened to her, and the show that were part of the triple crossover wrong. For those who don't know Nina is a FBI Agent not an Analyst and her surname's not Garcia (that's the surname for three of my OCs) it's Chase. And before we address what happened to her during the triple crossover event, we need to address the fact that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit was NOT the third show in the crossover event but was actually FBI: International. With that out of the way we need to address what actually happened to Nina during the crossover the "answer" they gave me said she was abducted which didn't happen instead she was shot (which is kinda better but also worse at the same time).

Tenth "victim" was Stuart Scola

They didn't even get his f***ing name since they basically took the name of another character and added his surname unto that name and (for some reason) made him a former Army Ranger and not a Wall Streeter (that's from his wiki page not me) but hey at least they got the FBI Special Agent part. Everything else seems right though.

Elevent "victim" was Tiffany Walace

Got the name and position/title right but that's it. Tiff wasn't played by Kellan Lutz (he [yes they even got the gender of the 'actress' wrong] play Kenny Crosby in FBI: Most Wanted) but is played by Katherine Rineé Turner and she wasn't a former Army Intelligence officer (if that was the case then she and OA might have know each other) but a former NYPD officer instead.

Twelfth and final "victim" was Isobel Castille

Before anyone asks yes, I specifically did that episode because I was curious. In the first pic where I used the ep title they got the season and plot wrong. It says second season and not fourth and it should have said something along the lines of a guy kill women in a position of power. In the second pic where this time I used the specific season and episode number they got the episode name wrong since they said the ep title is "All In" which doesn't even exist anywhere on the FBI/One Chicago wiki and the plot also seems to be non-existent on the FBI/One Chicago wiki as well. The last thing I want to say about Isobel is that can the woman get a break she's been through way too much pressure and stress.

There are two more weeks left of Intermine Sundays, and two more characters left to reveal (for now). On January 20, we will upload the first teaser trailer for the game in preparation for IKKiCON, where I (pixcelation) will have a booth, so if you'll be in attendance, I would love for y'all to keep an eye out.
