“They finally made this theme more blatant-" Why does it need to be blatant. What's wrong with subtlety? Concepts can be underused but subtlety is not neglect.
Blaring all your concepts and themes is not good writing. It's so disruptive to a story's flow when the characters look off the screen to be like "See? This is the concept. The idea. The theme."
If you can feel the hand of the author becoming too heavy that's bad.
For example: I see people saying Azula's abuse in ATLA is more blatant in the live action and it's good because "it's being discussed more". It already was discussed at length. The show made it clear she was a victim at every turn, every behavior, every reaction, it came from a place of trauma. It was made clear that she was scared of ending up like Zuko because Zuko was an example of what would happen to her if she failed. When she says she's better than Zuko it wasn't just because she was raised to think hersef superior to him but because Zuko failed and failures get mutilated and exiled, failures are abandoned. In that final Agni Kai the music is morose and somber because this isnt some epic battle its a fucking tragedy, the burning out of "Ozai's brightest light" and Azula finally succumbing to her terror and trauma she was repressing now that her worst fears are realized. How can you see a fourteen year old girl chained to a sewer grate wailing and writhing and breathing fire desperately as unsympathetic? Even Katara and Zuko are horrified as to what has become of her.
The writers weren't looking us in the eye and saying "See? She's a victim too" when they wrote this, they weaved it in. They weaved it into her obsesison with symmetry, her extreme perfectionism, the way she talks about Ozai, the ways she calls herself a monster, her isolation from those with healthy home lives, all the ways she held herself together and ultimately all the cracks and seams that she shattered down when she fell apart. It did not need to be blatant to be clear.

Thinking about Dean's happy mind place in 14x10 Nihilism.
Specifically talking about this conversation he has with his own subconscious:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dean's flirting with women is purely habit at this point, something he likes to do for fun. His whole ladies man persona had been a schtict for years at this point and I love that it's being called out.
His subconscious knows he wants someone else, but he's pushing it down. Thinks he can't have it anyways. But that's okay, he's content with flirting and having a friend. And that's the word they use: contentment. It's not bliss, but it's enough.
Tumblr media
I find it especially interesting that he sees Pamela in his mind. She's "neutral" in that she was not someone he considered family (i.e. Charlie) but she was also never a love interest, and she also isn't really someone Dean holds regrets about.
His contentment is a platonic female friend, a business of his own, and knowing that Sam and Cas will be home soon.

I had a dream two days ago.
In my dream there was a man crouched beside a tree stump. His presence was a calming one and his demeanour that of a teacher, he reached forward and from the centre of the tree stump lifted a sort of heart. This was not a flesh and blood heart, but a heart nonetheless. With this stange heart in his hands he turned to me and said
"The map to the heart of life, lies insides the inner layers of the very heart itself, but the journey must be taken without bringing the heart along"
My interpretation of this is that the key to life is to strip oneself of ego and individuality, to simply exsist as a life form no different than a plant or bug. To sit and experience life as just a part of life, not a conqueror of it. A reminder that we are a collective. Sometimes your human biais can cloud you to true meaning.
But then again perhaps I am clouded.

Also, I usually don't make kid characters and know there's not a ton in the ftc. But mayhaps, I'll get Kidlat some friends their age.

okay no more destiel shipper!sam. society has progressed past the need for destiel shipper!sam
where is sastiel shipper!dean?
especially after nihilism when dean's subconscious dream world is apparently incapable of constructing a sam who is both convincing and content, so when he comes up with an explanation of where sam would be that is both (1) not here and (2) nothing to worry about: he's just off somewhere with cas

I wanted to learn to play violin, to learn a hundred languages, to understand the field of robotics, to become a law student, to study anatomy, to travel the world, to build a house, to buy everything I was denied as a child, to meet a thousand people, to form several connections.
...But this existence is all too little to learn all too much. I'm confined by the constraints of mortality and society.
