Susan

Susan is not the gentle grandmother stereotype of old lady. She is the "I lived a long time to give a shit on what people think" type of old lady. The one that is impatient, grumpy, blunt, and say what's on her mind without any filter. She would be the relative you don't want at your Thanksgiving meal as they spout racist/sexist/homophobic/etc things without remorse.

She probably never shown any proper respect or fear of the notorious Radio demon. Alastor finding her manners and opinions distasteful as she interrupts Alastor conversations with Rosie constantly and/or drags her own conversation agonizing long with Rosie as Alastor tries to wait for his time with Rosie to resume. Alastor being much younger "whippersnapper" between Rosie and Susan. I wouldn't be surprised if Susan had at one point, shushed Alastor for trying resume his conversation and Susan saying "Hold your tongue, the adults are speaking." A flare of irritation visibling showing on Alastor and barely restraining himself to act upon it, instead smile widely ad a force laugh it off.

Alastor can't and won't do anything to Susan. He usually targets men to kill. So Susan being a woman and elderly conflicts with his own morals. You know Alastor would be the type that respected the elderly. Even if he willing to cast aside his own morals in favor to destroy Susan, She is under Rosie territory. The satisfaction of ridding Susan isn't worth the repercussion or the strain of Rosie friendship. So, he forced to put up with Susan in favor for Rosie.

What makes her relationship-or lack thereof with Alastor funny is that they are probably similar with their adverse of modern technology after their deaths. Susan probably hates Alastor music and fondness of radio. That his music is the Hell version of "devils music" to her. She constantly hackles him like she did with Charlie. One of the very few or perhaps the only one to do so in both life and afterlife. He usually can perform witty banter with his sharp words can put any would be hacklers in place but Susan...oh Susan, she doesn't let Alastor use his greatest arsenal.-his sharp tongue. She just talks over and interrupts him so he cant get a word out. It's so infuriating to him not to be able get a word out, to speak. Which is his main talent, his livelihood while alive.

I think Susan see Alastor as a smart aleck whippersnapper, and Susan is the "get off my lawn" to him whenever he visits the town.

I just love Alastor since I watched the pilot years ago but I grew to love him more with the series. I just find his relationship with other people so intriguing.

It had been exactly two months and three days since Alastor had last grinned, and Charlie was starting to lose it a little. She wasn’t the only one in the hotel to notice, no, Vaggie had been giving Alastor weird looks since it started, and Angel Dust had been joking about it up and down, but nobody else was concerned. It wasn’t that they didn’t care, but so much had been happening, Charlie couldn’t really blame them for not asking.

But someone had too.

It wasn’t like there was any reason for this, at least none that Charlie could figure out. Everything was better now. Sir Pentious wasn’t dead, he was ok (even if he didn’t remember them - because they could fix that, they couldn’t fix death), they had managed to push back extermination while heavens court deliberated, and Alastor wasn’t stuck in the deal with Charlies mom anymore, he was free. So everything was supposed to better.

.. But something was still wrong, because Alastor still wasn’t grinning. He was still smiling, sure, but it didn’t reach his eyes and compared to the big wide grin Charlie had grown to know over the past two years; it wasn’t much. He was still Alastor, Charlie knew it wasn’t all just faked because of the deal with her mom, but.. it was odd.

She had tried her best to ignore it, really, she had tried so hard. Alastor warned them (in what she could swear was meant to be a moment of vulnerability, holy shit her hotel was working) that he was gonna need some time to get better. That was okay by Charlie, she knew a solid half of that deal was just meaningless torture on her moms part (which was not messing with her head, thank you very much.)

It had been two months, though, and Alastor had said he felt mostly better now, and he still wasn’t grinning. Charlie wasn’t sure the last time she had seen his teeth where he wasn’t eating or baring them. It was a stupid, small thing to get caught up when everything was better and they were working to make it even more better, but she couldn’t ignore it anymore. She was going to go Nifty levels of insane if she keeped trying to ignore it.

So, after a long long hour of pacing and ringing her hands and running her fingers through her hair and ranting aloud to herself (she wasn’t sure she could thank her dad enough for the sound proof room), she slid out of her room and into the lobby. She had a good feeling Alastor was in there, and it took about two steps into the lobby and a quick look around to prove herself right.

“Oh, Charlie, my dear! Any reason why you’re up at the devils hour?” Alastor looked up from his book and asked with a small little smile, the hum of radio static steady under his voice, and Charlie felt her heart ease a bit up at the soft sight. Right.

There was another reason she hadn’t asked yet, other than her anxiety - Alastor was genuinely getting better. She could see it now as Alastor placed his book on the table and shifted to the side to give her room to sit down. He looked, and acted, genuinely better.

All his movements felt lighter now; less deliberate, more genuine. She was pretty sure Husk had said it best one night when they were talking over whisky. (“I damn knew somethin’ was wrong with the bastard when he came back. He was all tight strung and quick spoke - wasn’t like that before. I swear, I thought he had been a professional actor past seven years, he did nothing naturally! Feels more normal now, and I’m damn glad for it.”)

“Just a bit antsy,” she answered with a smile she was pretty sure held her painfully obvious anxiety. She slid into the spot Alastor had made for her and quickly pulled her ankles up to sit criss-cross, her hands running over her legs and her eyes, for the moment, glued to her lap. She knew her anxious tells were painfully obvious, but she was pretty sure trying to act normal would make her combust. After a second, her gaze drifted back up to Alastor, “what about you?”

“I’m doing just splendid darling!” He answered with an ease that soothed Charlie a bit. It was.. nicer to hear him speak now, knowing that every word was of his free will. Even if he was lying, at least he was choosing to lie. That had to count for something. “Say, Charlie, what has you oh so antsy at this witching hour?”

“I just,” she cut herself off and took a deep breath before looking back to Alastor, and explaining, “ok, so - I know a lot has changed and a lot is changing and I’m ok with that, of course I am! And if you don’t want to answer that’s completely fine, no bad blood - and no matter what you do answer, if you even choose too - I won’t be mad or anything. I just - I have a question. For you.”

Alastor blinked, giving her a blank stare for a moment as he processed the ramble. After a moment though, he gave Charlie another of his too small smiles and a clapped a hand on to her shoulder. “Well, ask away my dear! No need to leave me or yourself waiting any longer now.” He said, giving her an expectant look.

It took Charlie another five seconds of painfully staring at her lap before the words wouldn’t be held in anymore, and the whole question came tumbling out so fast Charlie was pretty sure it counted as one word- “why haven’t you been grinning at all?”

It took about another two seconds of no answer until Charlie was rambling again, the words spilling out before she could really stop them. “I mean, it’s not like you have to, of course not! I would never make you do anything you don’t want too, I’m not like my mom, I’m just.. concerned, I guess. You used to grin all the time and now you don’t and-”

Alastor cleared his throat and Charlie snapped her head up so fast she vaguely worried she was going to give herself a neck injury. “I take no offense to the question, Charlie,” he started, “and my will is not so easily swayed that I will change my behavior just because of a simple question you asked.”

“Right, right, of course,” Charlie said, hands still ringing in her lap as she practically brimmed with anxiety.

There was another uncomfortable silence before Alastor started speaking again. Just a year or two ago Charlie would’ve called herself stupid for even thinking it, but now she could recognize the furrow to his brow as nervousness. “I will answer your question. I just.. would like to give some context first. Charlie, do you know how your mother could be cruel?”

Charlie did. She couldn’t unknow it, because it all made her sick. The same women who preached about being their to impower demon kind could torture one of them, needlessly. She fucking sowed his mouth half shut instead of just making a vocal deal about it like a normal person to- to fucking what, prove a point? Alastor had been cooperating, he hadn’t done anything, and she fucking hurt him for fun while playing at being an angel-

It was only when Alastor’s gentle hand tapped against the point of her horn she realized she had horns to be tapped, and she cleared her throat with embarrassment. “I’ll take that for a yes,” Alastor started, a small bit of brimming affection in his tone, “there was.. one more incident of that I haven’t brought up yet.”

The words already set a chill to Charlies spine and her mind racing, a million god awful and painful to think about possibilities running through her head, but Alastor’s next question made her blood run cold. “Do you remember a single time I wasn’t grinning before the deal was broken?”

Charlie.. Charlie couldn’t, could she? That was why she was so concerned about his lack of teeth baring in the first place, it was so normal that the loss of it sent her mind spinning. But now that she thought to it, the dates lining up perfectly - oh. She was the last to realize, wasn’t she.

“... No. You couldn’t stop grinning, could you?” She whispered with mounting horror.

Alastor gave a small nod. “That is true.”

Charlie suddenly threw herself back on the couch, groaning with painful frustration and hiding her face in her hands. “Of course you didn’t want to grin while crying! Shit, how didn’t I realize it earlier? I- fuck, I could’ve done something, I could’ve helped you.”

Alastor blinked, surprised by the sudden outburst. Hesitantly, he reached down with a comforting hand, lightly patting her shoulder. “There there, my demon belle. It is no bad blood you didn’t get me out earlier - I’m out now, am I not? As well, it might’ve been.. for the best, that the deal stayed as it was for a while. Even if it was terribly unpleasant.”

That caught Charlies attention as she sat up again, looking over to Alastor with pure, unmarred confusion covering her face. “.. What do you mean it’s for the better the deal stayed in place? The deal nearly got you killed, like.. twice!” She said, waving her hands around with frustration.

“..I’ll concede, it is true that the deal did cause me great detriment,” Alastor said, before continuing, “however - it wasn’t all bad. I would’ve never came to the hotel if your mother didn’t force me too.” He pointed out with a small smile on his lips, “I would’ve never met Vagatha, or Angel Dust, or our dear Sir Repentious, or even-” he reached down, suddenly tapping Charlie on the nose, “you, my dear.”

Charlie laughed softly before turning back around again, guilt still brimming under her voice. “Sure, I guess, but you should have never been forced to stay. I wanted that to be a choice, y’know, and you, my co-host, were forced and I didn’t even know. It just.. it bothers me.”

“Well, even if the situation was forced, my affection wasn’t,” Alastor held up one finger to stop Charlie from contesting him, “I know it wasn’t, because for a long long time before you freed me, I had resentment building.” Charlie blinked, staring up at him with surprise.

“I wanted to get my just-deserts, my bloody vengeance in glorious fashion once my wings were unclipped - however, after so long of having only you as a symbol of your mother, I missed sight of who was at fault,” Charlie listened, vaguely recognizing the emotion in his voice as guilt. “I wanted to get vengeance upon you, even when I was more than aware you weren’t at fault.”

“However, over time, that rage faded - not for your mother, of course, but for you. After so many nights of you healing wounds and helping souls and showing me kindness, even as I loudly detested everything you stood for with a grin on my face, I realized that you weren’t the one to blame. So, really, it was for the best.”

Charlie blinked up at him, before slowing leaning over and resting her head on Alastor’s shoulder, taking in the warm and familiar silence of the hotel lobby.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”

Siren in batdr 😺☝️

Picture 1 is her as an entity in batdr. She can only move through a puddle due to her structure as a mermaid. Audrey encounters her in an inky river somewhere (my memory's fuzzy and i dunno if theres an inky river in batdr but if there isnt, well lets just pretend there is) and she is given choices of whether to talk to her or ignore her banter.

A. If Audrey chooses to ignore her, Siren will get angry and will disappear into the dark puddles. Only to appear again occasionally to jumpscare audrey (kinda like slicer but more vicious and vocal)

B. If Audrey chooses to go and talk to her, she will ask Audrey to do something to her bidding (havent thought what thatll be but maybe something in relation to getting a bendy plush or smth? And a radio maybe) And when she returns with the required items, Siren will immediately be the supplier of Audrey in batdr: supplying her with inky hearts, coins, upgrades, batteries, and even the canister(she can only two tho). But this transaction can only happen once in every encounter. She can also be a jack of all trades, she can help audrey occasionally whenever she's stuck in a level, low power of the gent pipe, distract the keepers or any enemies nearby. Usually she'd do this by randomly popping from an inky puddle or when audrew looks on her back to see siren out in her puddle.

She is one of the experiments who escaped The Pit. She loathes Twisted Alice and loves to dive in when audrey battles Alice. Whenever she says goodbye to audrey after the trade, she says "Your welcome for that, my little goldenfish. Oh! And dont forget to say hi to my darling devil!" She waves briefly and then disappears into the puddle, then the Ink Demon will be heard nearby, initiating the usual warning from the game.

Picture 2 depicts another version of Siren--except she replaces Audrey as the protagonist. Her weapon is changed from a gent pipe into a fountain pen. Upgraded in a different way, she would need to dip it into an ink puddle that is charged with electricity. It causes the pen to enlarge and strengthen itself. There are certain stations for this upgrade tho, like the gent pipe upgrade station. It just doesnt have a manual compared to the pipe. The metap tip will have some electrical shock and it can be pulled out to reveal thick ink inside that can be used to temporarily blind or immobilize enemies (its sticky). She doesnt have the banish ability and will be replaced by Soul Snatch, she can snatch an enemy's life in one touch. She will still have the flow ability from Porter (changed from yellow to black) and the travel ability from Heidi tho.

The ink demon aint merging with her in the end tho, lets say... just a change of heart.

Oh i forgot to say, they cannot both exist at once. So no one meets the other.

That Toon mask…. Just. Wow. I feel bad for anyone on the wrong side of that; cartoon logic is no joke. I also like how it’s the black and white, silent version. Really adds to the violence vibe. And since his voice doesn’t sound right, all I can imagine now is warped/static/eldritch talking when REALLY mad

Oh yeah Toon is his own kind of monster!

I used to watch alot of black and white cartoons as a kid so of course when designing Toon I had to do him in black and white too!! Also since we're talking about how bad he is and design, if you look at his sheet you'll notice his hair curls up to emulate devil horns.

When he does talk it warped and underlined with persistent radio static, but hold this creepy sing song tone to it.

The true beginning of Chucky's descent into the career of a serial killer had happened in the office of child therapist and psychologist Amanda Mixter, someone who was bored with their profession due to it being fored upon her by her parents

Until she had laid her eyes and claws into the recently traumatized 7 year old Charles Lee Ray, seeing someone she could mold into her own personal social experiment and.... compainionship on the side since she found it "too hard and too time consuming" to find it in the appropriate dating fields with men her age

Having been gaslit by her to the point of convining the young boy into believing that he had killed his mother on his own volition with no help or coercion from the killer that broke in that night instead of the truth of him being threathen with both his and his mother's life if he did not do so, Chucky during this time until he stopped seeing her at the age of 15 thought that she was the closest thing to a mother and sister figure that he had at the time

It took years until Chucky had met up with Tiffany again in their adulthood did he truly realize what had happened to him since Tiffany's look back then looked a LOT how Mixter did when she was young and it would actually bother Chucky a lot and would sometimes even cause flashbacks to encounters he had with Mixter (but of course never told Tiffany about it and lashed out at her a lot, hence it being a big part of why The Sarah Thing happened)

It was only after hearing one of the songs that he and Mixter used to "dance" to come over the radio in Jesse and Jade's van during the events of Bride and having a panic attack hearing it in front of Tiffany did he finally decide to tell her what happened with him and Mixter all those years ago (and went into detail into how it was one of the mian catalyst to The Sarah Thing after they had Glen and Glenda)

To this day Chucky still has a hard time every time one of the songs from their sessions comes on and HATES being called Charlie even though his mother used to call him that before she died becuase Mixter called him that so much (and he hated it even back then, but never protested), and he has a high distrust of authority figures, especially around his children

This is a extermely heavy duty headcanon so I totally understand if this is all a bit much for you and others, I just hope that you're able to find it interesting (is that even a good word for this??)!

1 - 03/10/2023 : another of my faves of last year, was trying to get better at drawing trainz, so just Edward and Toby hanging out, displaying the duality of old men x

2 - 04/10/2023 : got a new puter! one of the first things i set to doing after getting set up was to draw a Ru, of course, it was also just me trying to get used to the new MS paint..... it feels very odd

3, 4, 5 - 06/10/2023 : part 1 of redrawing random pics i have of Edward on my phone with my human version of him, this was really fun tbh, and the third here is one of my fave drawings of the year probs.. like sir.. those look heavy... what big uhh.. Glasses.. you have

6, 7, 8 - 07/10/2023 : part 2! i think i just like drawing his face... dare i say this train is cunty or will that get me exiled

9 - 08/10/2023 : something stupid i thought of and couldn't get out of my head for days so had to draw it..... little johnny from oingo boingo's only a lad, doing what he does best, fantasising about radios he wants oh so bad and running people down with a boyish craving for blood.. based on that 1 meme of the guy driving and thinking of a thing then making that insane face

10 - 09/10/2023 : based on that 1 silly vargskelethor song (that could not be less specific), had Shed 17 on the brain and was reminded of the milk song where the skeleton comes out.. thomarse dank 2 much milk and died..

11, 12 - 10/10/2023 : chooshada again :333 first a little doodle on my phone bc i was wondering about her livery, i do think she'd have originally been NER apple green but then painted NWR colours, butttt with a twist... coz i can do whatever i like... the twist is just that she's painted dark blue rather than a sky blue, coz its more her colour x

ALSO MS paint shada, wanted to draw her more uh, idk, detailed ig, idk i love this one, it also served as more train practice

13 - 13/10/2023 : previous one, but with COLOUR!! not much 2 say other than that shes very cute

14 - 18/10/2023 : saw a tweet abt old photos of engine crews posing with their crashed locos and how the NWR crews would do that, made me think of how, if Toni was (choo)shada's driver, she'd do that.. probably x .. very like her to slay in the midst of a terrible accident

15 - 22/10/2023 : predictably, i have some playlists for the ttte engines, one for Diesel which is notable here, so uhh, i have the scrapped song from the lorax "biggering" in there, bc i see it as like a Duck vs Diesel song, ik im surpassing several layers of cringe here but hear me out ok... i drew this at 2am coz i couldn't stop thinking of Duck lecturing Diesel

16, 17, 18 - 25/10/2023 : speaking of playlists, think i was listening to my Robin one here, and felt like drawing him, i have "the land of make believe" in there, which ive always found to be an oddly haunting song, so this is semi based on that, though that wouldn't be apparent if i hadn't just told u x .. this looks like vent art but tis not i was just having fun

also tiny chooshada, i was in the middle of writing something which i have literally Just remembered now and i was writing a scene where Ru is stuck between some characters who shes not looking forward to working with bc they're about to bicker the whole fuckin time and one of them thinks shes a dick, so i drew her being sad that shes forced to work with morons..... and speak of the devil, 3rd drawing is here with 2 of the aforementioned morons :D i think D+D take a liking to her, they're just a little obnoxious (love them for that)

19 - 27/10/2023 : a quick(ish) digital thing of Chooshada again that i did on the side of another project, more engine drawing practice he he, she'll be out of proportion and lacking detail but really it was just to not be too hard on myself about that, it did help i think to understand how to draw her more, plus just look at her lil face... also she has a number here, doesn't mean much other than 8 being her lucky number, other than 11, like those are just her numbers, suppose i could have it be 1188 to ref her bday, idfk x

goofy ass way to kill someone (i guess the red shoes reference?), but i'll take actual ballet dancers dancing in media any day :) and tchaikovsky's swan lake is one of my all time favorite pieces of classical music

did you know swan lake has a happy ending in some productions? this abt version has them yeeting themselves off a cliff to die together and reunite in heaven but some they kill off the baddie and everyone is together and happy. anyway i totally cried again watching that finale clip lol

why won't they let them wear actual cold winter appropriate clothing?? they must have been freezing in their little light fall jackets.

yes swan lake reference!! i finally watched black swan here not long ago, i'll watch anything with ballet but it was a little too scary for what i could tolerate in my headspace there for a good while.

SAM Geez! You okay there, Baryshnikov? DEAN Yeah. Yeah, I'm "pas de done."

(you know male ballet dancers generally don't wear pointe shoes, right) baryshnikov is my fave and i actually got to see him perform - sadly not classical ballet, but with the white oak dance project back in early 2000s.

this has other dances doing the same variation, but baryshnikov is first and this is one of my favorite things (i have this performance on vhs). it is perfect for his acting and obviously his technique and power is jaw dropping. the gasps and cheers from the audience with that first big jump, seriously💯

apparently this is the third episode with bad moon rising in it,

via wiki: also played in 1.22 Devil's Trap and 2.01 In My Time of Dying. this sadly did not making the streaming rights so it's some knockoff on netflix (on the radio during the semi crashing into the impala). i already figured it meant bad news this time around, doubly so.

i know a vague plot point for s8 i think but i don't know what happens with sam's head (i don't think, at least) our how we get to what i know from s8. but misery scale is tipping heavier as we approach the end of the season soo. i am so looking forward to the end of the leviathan plotline. i could not care less

The Sounds - Dance With the Devil. Also a lot of M*rilyn M*nson before his shit came out/I was aware of his shit.

Where did you first hear this song?

Pandora! Which is how I listened to most of my music. I remember fewer songs than the radios I had, which were AWOLNATION (which I still love), My Chemical Romance (still ADORE, always an MCR girlie), and Regina Spektor (again, still love when I am feeling a certain way about life). My three modes - dancin’, EMO, and “I actually feel REAL REAL sad and NEED to cry about it”. Oh and my study radio but that was spawned with Parov Stelar and Ratatat, but that doesn’t really count.

How old were you when you first heard the song?

I think 16?

Being who you are now, how do you feel about the song?

I remember feeling this went a lot harder than it actually does? I still like the beat though and I don’t have any negative feelings about it.

The End of Love, Florence and the Machine

Florence Welch is probably one of my favourite artists these days, and this song is my absolute favourite of hers since it was first released. It inspires me so much whilst writing, and I love the emotion that washes over you when you listen to it. Especially with my favourite lyrics; ‘I’ve always been in love with you / Could you tell it from the moment that I loved you?’

Look At Us Now (Honeycomb), Daisy Jones and the Six

I have been obsessed with the soundtrack of this album since the Amazon series dropped last month. The team did an abosolutely incredibly job in creating an album that feels like it charted in the 70′s (and feels very Fleetwood Mac), and after finishing the show myself I quickly had to order the vinyl record for this.

I knew Riley Keough would kill the vocals when it was announced she was cast, but I had no idea Sam Claflin would be so good too!

Tango in the Night, Fleetwood Mac

I have so much love for this band and oh my goodness, Tango in the Night is such a fantastic album which often gets overlooked for other albums like Rumors. But there are so many good songs in here, and Tango in the Night is one of my favourites. I used to own this on vinyl too, but I am cursed as every copy I have brought has been damaged in some way :( My mum treated me to the CD version a few years back for Christmas however, so it still gets played often.

This Hell, Rina Sawayama

Probably one of the more recent songs I listen to these days, but I fell in love with this song as soon as I heard it. Really powerful message and honestly? It’s just a bop. I mean, how can you go wrong with lyrics like; ‘The devil’s wearing Prada / And loves a little drama / This hell is better with you’.

Hunter’s Moon, Ghost

Ghost never fails to be awesome, and when I’ve loved this song since the day I watched Halloween Kills and went ‘hey wait a minute - that’s Ghost!’ when the credits played. The song fits so well with the film too and the story which is just, such a big plus in my book (also yes cinema, can we return to the days of having great soundtracks for movies? Because I am liking the returning trend). Another recent vinyl purchase too, as I realised I had no Ghost records and had to rectify that immediately during a record sale.

Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil #7: “The Busboy” | October 15, 2007 - 12:15AM | S01E07

It’s a shame that the most positive feeling I can muster for this show still involves me being bored by it. There’s no question in my mind that the formula is off; at least for my taste. I don’t know. If you took the same radio play and animated it differently and maybe changed the cloying music to something else you could maybe envision an improved experience. But these scripts wind up being mildly amusing at best and it’s as if the producers have tricked themselves into thinking that the terrible animation is what’s gonna make the show shine. But at the end of the day the animation is my least favorite part of the show, by far.

This episode involves the Senator guy and Satan butting heads. Satan expected the senator to run (for president? I think? right?) as the first open Satan-worshiping politician, but the senator’s strategy is to downplay that. This makes Satan angry, so he engages in mild mischief by hacking the sex offender registry with his magical Satan powers. The punchline of the episode is that he arranges the dots on the sex-offender registry map to form a big picture of the senator’s face. He also moves a bunch of sex offenders to a condo across a school where the senator is giving a speech and kissing children. By doing this, Satan makes the senator seem less like a Republican and more like a Democrat.

Meanwhile, his sex-offender son Tad (played by Todd Barry) is given a job at Satan’s restaurant as a bus boy. He likes fucking meat, and sculpts a full-sized fuck doll out of Lucy. When she finds this, he captures her in the walk-in, and won’t let her go, and does disgusting things to the made-of-meat version of Lucy while Lucy watches. This is barely resolved; the episode ends with Tad casually mentioning to Jesus that Lucy is just “in the back”, but we don’t see her get rescued. It’s sort of wild how little role Lucy plays in her own show, and each episode comes up with new ways to exemplify that.

I hesitate to call this a stronger episode. It feels weirdly low-stakes, even though the concept of moving a condo building of sex offenders across the street from an elementary school would be a pretty terrible disaster. The show doesn’t treat this was much gravity; it’s just a funny prank Satan is pulling. The whole mood of the show is “we’re just playin’ around”, even the music is sorta circussy during the final scene. Downplaying the horribleness of the dark humor doesn’t really do the show many favors. This is a drum I’ve beat before, but it bears repeating: You imagine the kids who shop at Hot Topic and read Johnny Vazquez comics loving this. Not me, man.

Squidbillies Volume One DVD (October 16, 2007)

I’m going to do this DVD release a terrible disservice. I actually own this DVD set, but I don’t think I ever once dug into the surprisingly copious special features available. There’s multiple rough cut pilots (most are just radio plays with no or rough animation) and I seem to recall watching the featurette where a bunch of cast and crew bullshit on a porch while talking about the show. I remembered Jon Wurster being part of this, but maybe that was for the season three DVD release (I think he was more involved in that season? I don’t want to look this up).

I read a review of the DVD extras and my interest was piqued enough to retrieve the DVD and check it out; only to discover that it no longer sits on my DVD shelf. I must have weeded it out and stuck it in storage to sell or reshelve when I one day have more space. Oh well.
