Forgiveness and kindness in the finale of Owl House
One of the things I loved about the finale was showing that forgiveness and kindness are good things, that they can change people for better and that keeping an open hand for somebody to grab on is a beautiful and sometimes very healing thing. That it can change so much to just keep an open heart and try giving people another chance. Try forgiving them.
Like Luz and Eda and King did with Collector. They choose to be kind to them, to reach out and to try showing them a better way even when they didn’t need to. When they had every reason to be mad at him. And it changed everything for the Collector, who was hurt so much by everybody in their life, who didn’t understand the reality of his actions. It made all the difference in the world for him that somebody was willing to listen. To try forgiving and offering kindness even thought they did so much damage to everyone.
But.
They also showed the reality of it. That sometimes it just doesn’t work. Sometimes the person that we turn our kindness and our forgiveness towards isn’t willing to accept it and isn’t willing to work to better themselves. Isn’t willing to look at themselves and realize that what they’re doing is wrong. That they made a mistake. That they hurt others. They aren’t willing to work towards the better future.
Just like Belos.
Belos who refused to change. Belos, who looked at the kid he used and discarded, who was now offering him a hand in forgiveness, offering him kindness he was just taught to give and decided to not give a fuck about it. Who decided to take that kindness and destroy it. Belos, who to the bitter end was unwilling to look at himself and see what sort of person, what sort of monster he became. Belos, who refused the hand reaching out to him again and again.
And thats the beautiful and painful reality of forgiveness and kindness. It doesn’t work every time. Sometimes it backfires, like it did when Collector offered it to Belos. Sometimes it gets you or people you care about hurt. Like it did with Luz. And for it to work the person on the receiving end has to be willing to accept it. To work towards the betterment, towards being a better person, towards not making the same mistakes.
Sometimes when you give a chance to people, they will disappoint you. They will take your kindness and throw it back at your face. But does this mean we shouldn’t offer second chances to people? Does it mean that we shouldn’t forgive or be kind?
No.
Because there is always a chance that it can save people, just like it did with Collector, just like it did with so many characters in the series like Amity, Lilith or even Hunter. Because there is just as many people who will take the hand you offered and it will mean the world to them. It will change everything for them.
And I think thats beautiful.

Heavy is the Head that Wears the Crown...
Tumblr media
I'm doing a brief analysis of the final outro art of "For the Future"
When I first looked at this I saw this little guy with a massive crown over his head, the crown possibly representing the overbearing responsibility and pressure on the collector, who is so small in comparison.
The Perspective could also show the BI titan sharing the crown with the collector, but for the most part, the symbolism of this scene is prominent.

You know, I could take all of the Collector’s negative traits being ignored/ retconned, all responsibility being pinned solely on Belos, the TOH crew taking valuable screen time away from Belos, I could tolerate all of it if the TOH crew hadn’t made ‘Collector’ a species. He was referenced as the child of the stars. Not child of star PEOPLE. Those are completely different things!  I thought the Collector was a manifestation of the unpredictability, beauty, and cruelty of the universe. Plus the fact he was always referenced in singular terms; CHILD of the stars, THE collector, always emphasized their isolation.  Stars are billions of years apart from each other after all. The Collector would feel alone by design, in the vast expanse of the space. It’d make sense for them to take interest in  beings that live so close together for such short times even if he couldn’t understand them.  ( Yes this would imply the Collector was the one to kill all the Titans. Them not being the one to do it is a soppily done retcon that adds nothing of value to the story and takes away what  little nuance the narrative has left but the general fandom is fine with it because it gives them even more reason to hate Belos and they get another character to woofiby and write angst about and use to hurt Belos). It’d make their imprisonment even more cruel- by nature the Collector belongs to reside freely in the sky but he’s trapped away in a single, dark, small place. And of course the Collector would seem childish, they don’t have any skills associated with grown humans! But he’s not human so it’s be redundant to treat them like so! How could one try to apply human and witch morality to a being of nature? How do you explain such concepts to someone who’s never personally experienced anything remotely similar to them? It’d be such an interesting conflict! Plus the connection you could make… humans being made out of stardust  making them sort of like relatives to the Collector... them realizing they’re not alone…Maybe it’s because I had religious beliefs regarding the stars or that I’ve always been a big star fan but child me is crying right now.

it’s really hard to hate this funky little dude
Tumblr media
their just a kid. an incredibly overpowered child who never learned how to empathize. but they’re still just a kid.

they just want to play. you’d be mad too if the titan made you into a plate and then philip kept you on a shelf for 400 years.

I have a headcanon that Collector is a nervous giggler. They laugh when they are in a situations out of their control or in high stress ones.
The only thing I base this on is that one scene in “O titan where art thou” when he laughed after saying he won’t be alone anymore.

You know what's kinda funky? Bill cipher and the collector both being 2-D and supposedly being from other realms.
Both of them crave "fun" and chaos, and seem to have an obsession with some sort of big event.
Both make deals with mortals.
Also they both are shape-shifting and have different forms (the collector potentially anyways) and they both possess people!
I think the collector and Bill may be from the same odd realm, both of them being banished for their loves for chaos and death and being contained by something. Only to be brought back by a person.
Idk just a funny little thought I had-
