Blurb: Being the middle child has its ups and downs...but for Grace, an only child who was adopted at birth, discovering that she is a middle child is a different ride altogether. After putting her own baby up for adoption, she goes looking for her biological family...including Maya, her loudmouthed younger bio sister, who has a lot to say about their newfound family ties. Having grown up the snarky brunette in a house full of chipper redheads, she’s quick to search for traces of herself among these not-quite-strangers...and when her adopted family’s long-buried problems begin to explode to the surface, Maya can’t help but wonder where exactly it is that she belongs. Joaquin, their stoic older bio brother, has no interest in bonding over their shared biological mother. After seventeen years in the foster care system, he’s learned that there are no heroes, and secrets and fears are best kept close to the vest, where they can’t hurt anyone but him.

A Year to the Day - Robin Benway
Tumblr media
It’s been a year—a year of missing Nina. A year of milestones—holidays, birthdays, everything without her. Leo feels like she should remember what happened that night. But all she knows is that she left the party and got into a car with Nina and Nina’s boyfriend, East. East, who once promised Nina he’d watch out for her younger sister. East, who has been trying to keep that promise every day since. But East won’t give Leo the one thing she wants—the one thing she needs. He won’t tell her anything about the accident. He won’t talk about that night at all. As the days tumble one into the next, Leo’s story comes together while her world falls apart. The only constant is the one person who can help her bear the enormous weight of her love for Nina—and East might be carrying too heavy a load of his own.
tw: fatal car accident, grief

what's like one book you read you recommend to everyone
OKAY the thing is, recommending books always stresses me out cause I feel like books are such a personal thing y'know? BUT I will say this Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel = my favourite historical fiction novel ever written (specifically the first one in the series which imo works as a stand alone)
Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway = my favourite YA
Darker Shade of Magic and Vicious by V. E. Schwab = my favourite fantasy series (first book of darker shade of magic is a bit slow but the second two books are BANGERS)
Green Creek by TJ Klune = my favourite found family series (also gay werewolves)
Love & Other Inconveniences by Catherine Cloud and Thrown Off the Ice by Taylor Fitzpatrick = my favourite hockey books

Remember when you asked me if I was ever going to create a piece for our beloved Villains?
Well, how about a whole series of books?  😉
I’m so happy to finally be able to share with you what I’ve been working on for the past few months!
Here’s the official description of the project:
“Blood is blood…and one way or another, we all bleed."
Drizella and Anastasia only know one thing for certain: they will never end up like their mother, Lady Tremaine. When their father left them as young girls, he took what was left of their family's fortune and their mother's dignity with him. A few years and one deceased stepfather later, the only version of Lady Tremaine that Drizella and Anastasia know is a bitter and cruel head of the house. Anastasia and Drizella have promised themselves - and each other - that they'll be different. They'll find love, see the world, and never let their hearts go cold.
But both sisters are all too aware of what it can mean when cast into disfavor with their mother, and fueled by Lady Tremaine's tendencies to pit the daughters against one another, Drizella and Anastasia are locked into a complicated waltz of tenuous sisterhood. On the cusp of the royal debut party - their one chance to impress the Prince and live up to their mother's expectations - the sisters at last get a glimpse of what life could be like outside of Lady Tremaine's intentions: Drizella discovering a love of science and Anastasia sparking a secret romance. But never underestimate the power of a mother whose greatest talents lie in manipulation, and the sisters may learn that even the cruelest of hearts can spill blood.
This first book in the new Disney Villains Dark Ascension series by National Book Award-winning author Robin Benway explores the complex sibling rivalry between the two wicked stepsisters from Cinderella that turned them into the characters we know today.
Full press release here! I hope you’ll enjoy this new series! 💜
Happy Tuesday! ⚜️📚

*For Atlas Shrugged, I did enjoy reading it as a book but I didn’t agree with its values; with what the author (Ayn Rand) was trying to convey with her philosophy of objectivism. I did enjoy reading Anthem by her, but maybe I was too young to fully comprehend the intention of the story. I will say though that although I believe being selfish is good for one’s mental health, I do think there should be a limit to it. There’s such a thing as being too selfish (or maybe that’s just me). The type of people (aka Donald Trump) that like “Atlas Shrugged” probably says something about the book itself. But that could also just be me. In summary, this book made me think a lot of things and I would recommend trying it out just as a book, but I also wouldn’t recommend it because of what’s inside the book. Two very contradictory statements but take it as you will.
ALSO IF YOU WANT TO ASK ME WHY I GAVE A BOOK HEARTS OR WHY I DIDN’T DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS

I'm asking this separately because it didn't really fit but do you happen to have any favorite books? other than the outsiders?
(p.s pspspsps you might like Far From the Tree by Robin Benway, it's about siblings adopted by different families meeting each other and it made me cry like three times, very found family, very sweet book)
A handful of like old school reads for sure! (Think like The Outsiders, The Giver, The Great Gatsby)- I used to be all into Warrior Cats but dipped off around the “A Vision of Shadows” Arc! I consider manga in the books category to so Inuyasha was another huge one!
I’d have to say that’s it for fav books for now but I have a handful of miscellaneous ones to! I kinda am only just now getting back into reading again so maybe in the future I’ll have more LOL. I tend to lean more to manga or graphic novels though to! I’ll def add that one to my book list for the future to check out! \( ‘ w ‘ )/

Book Blurb: A poignant and powerful story of a grieving girl willing to risk everything, perfect for fans of Robin Benway and Jandy Nelson. On prom night, Hannah MacLaren sits in the headmaster's office in her fanciest dress, soaked to the bone. She pulled the fire alarm right as the queen was about to be crowned, and she's in huge trouble. But Hannah had her reasons for ruining the biggest night of everyone's lives. One year ago, her cousin Sophie, who was also her best friend and the person she loved most in the world, died of an overdose. Drowning in grief, Hannah became obsessed with one question: Who gave Sophie those pills? Then she concocted a plan: enroll at her cousin's fancy private school with a new look and a mouthful of lies, and find out the truth once and for all. But she didn't expect all the lines to blur. She didn't expect Sophie's friends to be so complicated. She didn't expect to fall for her longtime enemy. Now, she has a choice: let herself really mourn Sophie and move on, or see her search through to its explosive end--even if it means destroying herself.
Review:
How far would you go to find the truth? After her friend/cousin dies from a mysterious overdose, Hannah MacLaren is left with so many questions and her grief, she is willing to do anything to find out what actually happened to her best friend and who is responsible.... but the answer is never simple and she’ll have to rely  on the one person she hates the most, her academic nemesis who broke her heart to help her. Hannah and Sophie are cousins and best friends, but one day Sophie dies from an overdose in their junior year and now Hannah is drowning in grief and left with the question of : who gave Sophie those pills? Hannah will  do anything to get the answer, even if it means transferring to her cousin’s elite school, pretending to be someone else, and investigating all the students who are suspects. To top it off she finds herself partnering up with the one person she least expect, her academic rival and boy who broke her heart, Christian. She just can’t seem to shake him and he is determined to not only get under her skin but to get her to see that their rivalry isn’t so much about being enemies but the fact that he might have been in love with her the entire time. Hannah is dealing with so much, but can she find the answer or will she destroy herself in the process? This was a really interesting read, it goes back and forth between Hannah’s junior year dealing with the grief of losing Sophie and coming up with the plan and her senior year, her investigation and current progress. I also liked the relationship between Hannah and Christian, they’re academic rivals but also friends who feel for each other (plus I am always a huge fan of academic rivals to lovers trope). The grief and pain Hannah was dealing with was so realistic, the need for answers and the obsession with finding out who was responsible was very well done. The overall mystery felt realistic and I honestly had a great time reading this one.
*Thanks Netgalley and Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, Bloomsbury YA for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
