God, he hated when there were kids involved. They'd huddled against their father's side, the smallest clutched in his arms as Bucky had driven them away from the only life they'd ever known. But their mother had put them in the firing line when she'd joined HYDRA, and now there were targets on their backs – leverage for her, if nothing else. So Bucky had gotten them out, given them a fresh start. But there had been nothing he could say to fix the terror in their eyes.

It was late, but he hadn't been surprised to see the lamps still on in the living room. He'd kicked off his boots, shrugged out of his jacket and slumped down next to Steve on the sofa, curling up against him. Something was playing on the TV, but he paid it no mind.

"Stevie," he breathed, wrapping his arms around Steve's shoulders, hiding his face against his neck. "Hold me for a bit?"

12: "you could say I’m fond of you."

Two years since Vecna. A year and nine months since Eddie had been released from the hospital. A year and seven months since Max had been released.

Two years since Steve and Eddie had become inseparable friends.

Eddie fit surprisingly well into the Party, each of them able to connect with him in a different way. Dnd worked with most of them, but with Nancy Eddie had books, with Jonathan he had the softer side of his music, and with Steve he had this.

Movie nights.

Movie nights weren’t uncommon with any of them. In fact, it was exactly why Eddie wasn’t peeved that it wasn’t just their thing. Steve loved movies, and it hadn’t taken Eddie that long to figure out that it was because Steve loved stories.

Letters, apparently, moved around on the page when he read, which sounded like Hell to Eddie, but Steve found that love in movies. He was surprisingly into the nitty gritty film aspects too, liked watching the documentaries that sometimes came on about the history of film and the mechanics of filmography. Eddie would watch Steve watching the documentaries and realize that Steve was, in fact, a bit of a nerd.

This thrilled Eddie immensely.

Tonight, they were settled on Eddie’s couch for their own double-feature. Labrinth was Eddie’s pick, and a new TV documentary series about surrealist cinema was Steve’s.

Eddie highly suspected this one was Robin’s fault.

They both sang along to David Bowie, sitting nearly flush against each other. They were both smiling and getting sleepy by the time the documentary came on at 11pm, and when Steve’s arm settled on the back of the couch, as it had been doing more and more and more the last couple months, Eddie leaned his head back against it, as he’d been doing more and more and more.

As the show started and Steve sat enraptured, Eddie couldn’t help but think oh Steve, I am so terribly fond of you.

They fell asleep on the couch, Eddie never realizing that in the moment where his head hit Steve’s chest, Steve was thinking Ed, I am so in love with you.

There were plenty of good excuses he could give her, to slip away from her tender embrace and do what he's best at, yet... he didn't. Hawks couldn't find a single reason that made him want to do that. For once in his life, he was being selfish. For once, he was doing something for himself and himself alone, even if that somehow benefitted her.

The world be damned, he was staying right there with her. He could afford to be late for that one appointment.

"I'm staying," He said, one hand brushing gently against her forehead. He held his breath as he looked down at her, eyes lidding as he took in her form. She was beautiful, so, so beautiful. So much it made his heart beat faster. Hawks leaned down, unable to help himself.

His lips met hers like waves crashing on the shore, slow but demanding, tender yet firm. Only once he pulled away, he started to breathe again, and the tightness in his heart revealed just how much he cared about her.

"I'll stay as long as you want me to." He breathed warmly against her lips. His eyes locked firmly into hers, and he could still feel her breath against his lips. Hawks pressed his forehead to hers, one hand gently cupping her jawline as he dove for another passionate kiss.

          He was back from a photoshoot, his whole demeanor dragged down by exhaustion. Without a single word, he shed his jacket and his shirt and plopped down beside her on his stomach. Head on her lap, Mammon let out a soft sigh. Normally, he was reluctant to be this needy, but what was the point in having a girlfriend if he couldn't lean on her?

         "Hair. . ." He took her hand and dropped it onto his head, hoping she might catch his hint.

          He said he wanted to hang out in his room when he got back, and let Nicole in early enough so she could just chill there for the time being. So that’s what she had been doing. At first, just kind of mulling around. Then cleaning a little bit because lets be honest, his room could use it. And then once again, watching television and waiting for Mammon.

          When he returned, she looked over her shoulder as he walked in looking rather beat and tired. Honestly, she was half tempted to just make him go to bed and they’d be able to do stuff the next day. But when he instead flopped on the couch, laying himself across her lap, all she could do was shift slightly and let him get comfortable after she adjusted to be comfortable in the long run.

           His little quiet demand was understood, and she began running her fingers through his hair and gently massaging his scalp. Maybe it would be best if they simply relaxed tonight.

          “Busy day?”

           It’s said in slight jest, but she knew the truth already. Mammon was the kind of guy who could go for days once he was pumped up enough, but this kinda work like this could always tire him out. Which is fair. Nicole has one arm laying across his back, and the other rested against her abdomen while she plays in his hair softly.

         “Hey...lemme know when ya wanna move ta tha bed. Youse seem like yer ready fer a long nap.”
