There is this fic I want to reread, it's post canon 5+1 ish (???) fic but I remember only one scene, which is in some female lan disciple's pov where she joined wangxian with other lan disciples on a nighthunt (and she was very happy to join cuz nighthunt with wangxian = good learning experience), it goes well but wwx gets some scraps on his hands (I think) and when it was all done and they were going to rest she sees how lwj kisses wwx's fingers, wwx swoons, the female lan disciples gets flustered over how sweetly in love wx are and wishes she would get a partner that would care for her the same way (or just wishes to find a love like that idk)

He hides his injuries from WWX, who is super mean to him. But then WWX gets angry and throws LWJ against a wall, not knowing about his injuries. LWJ is hurt very badly, and WWX feels awful bc really he just wanted to push him away, not hurt him.

But basically, it happened after a huge war and LWJ was injured. WY found him volunteering at something like a refugee camp (?) and LWJ looked so sad and broken. I can’t remember much. But I know there was a lighthouse and WY took him there and eventually they ended up living close to that lighthouse.

19. Hi. It seems that I have lost another fic again. 👁️👄👁️ My brain is a wreck so I am back. Truthfully your blog has and will be the only thing that saves me. So I'm looking for a fic where A-Yuan can see ghosts (you see, I think that is the series name 🤔) So this is ancient cultivators time. He calls the ghost his mama and sometimes draws a family picture. He would talk to someone they cannot see. LWJ thought it was a bad spirit but y'know Cloud Recesses is a safe place spiritually, he thought maybe it was just an imaginary friend. If I remember LWJ couldn't see WWX and later on realized it was him because some of A-Yuan's description became very specific. Other people found A-Yuan creepy cause they can feel that he can see SOMETHING. 🤨 I remember from another fic in the series where it's JC's POV about A-Yuan seeing JYL, JFM and YZY in Lotus Pier. i said 5 months ago i was gonna share my thoughts on this scene and never did, so it's time to dig this out
what did wei wuxian mean by asking shijie "why would someone like another person" and why i.... don't think he's talking about lan wangji (i know-- i know. just bear with me)
or more accurately: an analysis of chapter 71, wwx's thoughts on love, and how mxtx utilizes parallels between past and present!
(Ch 71 of MDZS web revised edition //// ExR translation)
okay let's get straight to the point that's gonna make y'all want to call me a stupid bitch who can't read: i legitimately do not think wwx was talking about lwj in this scene! here's why:
first and foremost, let's remember what the status of wangxian's relationship was at this point after sunshot ended
first, phoenix mountain: a callback to their teen dynamic. wwx's silly and flirty personality is back, he teases lwj by throwing a peony at him then asking to borrow his ribbon. lwj is frustrated, etc. lwj forcefully kisses wwx then gets angry at himself. wwx finds him and gets worried that something happened to him. they walk together and talk in very friendly manner until the xuanli incident happens. by the end they part on good terms
then, yunmeng teahouse: the first scene of this chapter. wwx is feeling quite upbeat about seeing lwj as they had a nice chat last time they met. he does a lil phoenix mountan callback by throwing a peony at him, then asking him to come upstairs and hang out. lwj does but it.... doesnt end well. he's worried about wwx's worsening temper and fears he's starting to show signs of loss of control, and asks him once again to go to gusu with him. that severely sours wwx's mood, to the point of snapping at lwj when lwj implies that he'll regret it in the future. lwj realizes his mistake and they become polite again, but the atmosphere is significantly strained, and wwx even comments that he was presumptious and shouldn't have invited him over, which lwj dissents. wwx parts with a cordial but distant "thank you", and on... not great terms
what i think really makes the above hurt though is that, when wwx comes back to yunmeng and jc asks who he met. wwx answers this:
worse than jin zixuan.....oof. im so sorry hgj
so, it really is quite tragic. wwx had a nice time with lwj in phoenix mountain, and because of that he wanted to try and wash away their bad blood, ask him to hang out, recall some stories of their youth, maybe mend this relationship that became so strained during the war! what happens instead is that... he gets the harsh reminder of what (in his mind) lwj thinks of his cultivation, thinks he's not in control of it, that it's dangerous and he should be locked up. with that, they're all back to square one :(
the thing is, MDZS is quite known for being non-linear and having a humongous amount of flashbacks, and they're all set and positioned at the time they were for a reason! the thing is, as most read the novel once and then proceed to only revisit scenes separately, naturally forgetting about the grand-picture and the scenes that come before and after, we might misremember how some events play out or the state of the character arcs and relationships, and i believe the popular fanon interpretation that "omggg wwx was asking yanli this bc he likes lwj but can't admit this yet!!!! 🙈" is quite of a great example of this
but!! it's not for any bad reason, after all both the Audio Drama and CQL kinda play up this moment with some beautiful background music. this is, in the end, a romance novel! but let's put a pin on that for a bit and analyze what led to this scene, and why WWX came looking for shijie to ask her this
so as you see, the scene right before was wei wuxian and jiang cheng talking about jin zixuan, with jc asking wwx to not pick fights with him anymore since he's the heir of lanling jin. wwx is baffled because up until that point he and jc were trashtalking buddies when it came to jzx, but there's nothing they can do about it if shijie still likes him
that... makes wwx quite speechless, and he goes searching for her to get an answer. in his mind, jzx is still an awful, undeserving person! so why would shijie like him so much?
why would someone like another person?
of course, he's not as shameless to ask shijie right to her face why she likes someone like jzx, esp since she's already well familiar with his poor opinion of him, so he tries getting an "unbiased" answer by making a vague question, which in turn makes shijie think wwx is in love with someone else
now here's the thing: i feel like fandom tends to flanderize wwx when it comes to his unreliable narration, awareness of his own feelings or lan wangji's. we don't have time to get into that now, but if you've followed me for a while you know my thoughts on this
but here, specifically, i do not think wwx is in "denial about his crush" or "waving off because he doesnt want to get caught". his answer feels genuine, and honestly? really sad once you think about it
"I won't like anyone, at least not too much. Wouldn't it be like putting a rein on my own neck?"
this isn't strange once you consider the types of romantic relationships he grew up observing. other than his own parents', which he's mostly forgotten about, a strong love and attatchment sounds more like tying a rope around your neck. even though wwx is a romantic at heart who flirts easily but had been saving his first kiss for 20 years, he's still never felt this type of love for anyone before, and can't imagine putting himself through it
"So, wait... just because WWX said so you think you should believe it? You're telling me the curtains are just blue? If he's not talking about Lan Wangji, then what's the point of this scene?"

you see, something that MXTX does quite often with the flashback placement in MDZS is contrast the moments where wangxian's relationship was at its best with moments where it was at its worst. As wwx recall these memories, his pre-conceived notions about lwj get challenged and his actions and words get recontextualized! my favorite example is probably the ending of the flashback of wwx's return, to him waking up in the cloud recesses
no i'll never shut up about this flashback placement. my goddd
so, when looking at the "why would someone like another person" scene, i ask you to not look at it by itself, but as a part of the literary work that mdzs is! because, as the wangxian of the past are stuck in this cordial, but strained relationship, do you remember where the wangxian of the present have currently been left at?
if you ask me, there is something incredibly sweet about leaving these characters at their most tender --- when one is finally beginning to not only understand his own feelings, but to suspect that those feelings are requited, in which he's allowing himself to imagine a calm and happy future with him right as they march inside the lion's den --- and meeting them again when they're younger, and strained, and not fully knowing how to communicate that they care for each other, which in turn only hurts them both.
there is something very sweet about seeing wwx who is slowly realizing that he's in love, testing the waters of that, seeing how much he can take, in what ways he can ask for affection, and then seeing him again as he says "i won't ever like someone, at least not so much. wouldnt it be suffocating? wouldn't it be an impediment? wouldnt it be shackling yourself?" because you, like a cheeky grandma, can look at him and think: you don't know yet, but i've seen you then. you will like someone very much, and it won't be restraining. in fact, you'll never feel more free...
and that is the biggest thing, about revisiting this scene after you're done. because you'll look back this 20-something WWX who genuinely believed loving someone to much is like putting a rein around his own neck... and knowing he'll know a love that not only will not feel like a restrain*, but will be there to catch him whenever something does
*okay, except in bed, but that's only a bonus for wwx

- Dd does the sword in and out thing right in front of the child
- Then they're in post-timeskip costumes and gg does a few of his dance moves
- They're doing a scene where they are about to walk up to a building where jc is. Gg turns to DD and whispers something in his ear, facing away from where they're going. Then he touches DD's sleeve.
- They do a take. Dd as lwj walks to a nearby column and leans on it. After they call cut, gg immediately goes to kabedon DD, who smiles. Then they start walking off together
- As a blue screen is getting set up, DD helps gg with his dance. Then they do the SpongeBob thing
- Includes bit under covered walkway where gg does dancy walking away. They continue to talk and whatever the convo is about, gg finds it delightful/hilarious.

tl;dr: i am uncomfortable when jc isn't about wwx, and jgy's taste is better than jc
I never read the situation with JL as co-parenting, so that's one basis of the ship right out, and l can't see why JGY would burden himself with JC or what would attract him to JC. Like... JGY likes people who trust him and people who are good people and who think he's a good person and people who aren't the emotional equivalent of a landmine field on fire. JGY can have either LXC or SMS and I'm pretty sure he's been over the "I can change him" stage ever since NMJ. There is absolutely nothing about JC that I think JGY would be remotely interested in. (I also think JGY post incest-reveal is so deeply traumatized that the entire range of romantic and sexual emotions becomes a no-go for him, with no exceptions.)
I also don't see JC as willing or able to extend feelings for people outside his sect post-WWX's death. People betray you and then they die. Outsiders to the sect will demand the most horrific sacrifices. I also think he didn't like JGY giving JL Fairy at all (I think it's completely possible to think he was grateful for it, I just like my JC entirely unable to let go of WWX), because that put him in a position where he must break a resolution or take his nephew's dog away. (I also find it hard to believe that JC doesn't know about the bullying at Jinlintai and hmmm. don't think it makes him think favorably on JGY. Rusong's death can also result in no positive appreciation of JC for the care JGY takes with JL's safety.)
So basically I'm not into JC having positive relationships with people that aren't WWX, I don't see them catching feelings, and I think both of them are wayyyyy too conscious of the power of gossip to consider sex together (if I thought there was an attraction, which I don't. I don't think JGY finds JC's volatilenesse attractive).
Also I'm a huge wimp and I want JC to only get manipulated and fucked over by WWX. (🥺) Together they're not unpleasant in ways I find fun.
What would have made you like it?
I could get behind the version of the ship where JGY gets a hate-crush on JC because 1)he's projecting his negative NMJ feelings after NMJ's death and JC is conveniently irascible and inconvenient, and/or 2)he's convinced that WWX was JC's half-brother and that colors all of his vision of what JC did or didn't do.
Does he think JC was being incestuous about WWX? (and then he wasn't punished for it. how unfair that he got off unscathed when JGY must carry the weight forever!!!)
Does he share LWJ's opinion that JC used WWX and then got rid of him when WWX became more an impediment than a help? (something that JGY when he's honest with himself - rarely - does know he did, but that he tries to pretend he didn't and can easily dislike JC for. this is why he's besties with LXC. LXC thinks he's Good. JGY likes being Good. JC is all kinds of a repulsive mirror.)
A version where it's requited isn't about WWX enough for me on JC's part, though.
Oh, in a version of canon where JGS wasn't Like That and JGY is thus severely less messed-up (and the WWX+Wens situation isn't as dire as in canon) might have had them carry on a casual-ish discreet relationship while JYL is visiting JZX. Or maybe it's a version where JGY never ended up torturing for WRH. Something that would make him a bit softer at that stage, and have JC a bit less single-focused on WWX. It might escalate and the relationship might deepen if something something JGS causes worse problems, against JGY, etc.
Alternatively, this is less straight-up shipping, but I love the idea that JC and JGY had an UnderstandingTM about JL not having accidents in Jinlintai so long as JC didn't do anything stupid, such as marrying, and that JC honestly did think JGY was going to wait until JL was closer to twenty before JGY started making active moves against JL. And it hurt JC's feelings when Guanyin Temple happened.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
Extremely fucked up people and I'm happy that fans of the two characters seem to be having fun with it!

Mdzs trope opinions no one asked for
While I understand the appeal of redeeming characters, I find the way the people try to redeem JGY to be kind of insulting to his wife and child. Lots of authors tend to post the what ifs of JZX and JYL living being the key to JGY turning away from evil. They present it as, if he just had the brotherly love and was accepted as family by JZX and if he also received the love that WWX got from JYL, then of course he would turn away from his evil ways. It minimizes his character to me. JGY is (in my unprofessional opinion) a narcissist. The only way to 'redeem' him is to change his childhood. Or to make him decide that backing JZX is in his best interest, but this one is limited. JGY killed his own child. A child of another isn't going to sway him. Love isn't going to change him.
People like pointing to his fondness of LXC as proof that he has the ability to be a better person. This belief tells me that they don't understand, truly understand why he was fond of him. As I stated, I believe he's a narcissist, and as a narcissist he's going to hold on to people who think the best of him. And LXC always saw the best in him and never truly doubted him or his character. This unshakable admiration from somebody who was politically and socially advantageous for him to associate with was perfect for him. It must have been euphoric for him to have such an advantage. Plus, LXC upbringing and personality made him the perfect person to attach himself to because he knew how to play him. He knew how to get his sympathies and make him not question any doubts that might have popped up in his head.
(Trust and believe that at any point that admiration turned into suspicion, he would have been betrayed. People like to point out the fact that he didn't kill him in the end when he had the chance, but I honestly think he did that on purpose because how much more would he agonize and think about him if he saved him. To me, it read as him trying to make sure that he was always in his thoughts. Because at the end of the day a narcissist wants to be the most important thing in the room, in your life.)
JGY is an interesting character to read if done right. I think his cunningness is his best appeal. I think some people want to redeem him so bad that they kind of just make him a different person honestly. But yeah I just think that people try to redeem him through the power of love and I just think that is kind of a spit in the face of his wife and child that he murdered.

For the ask game: If you ship it at all, I'd love your take on Wen Ning/Jiang Cheng. I personally think that WN telling him the truth would move WN to the "possibly trustworthy??? review later" pile of people and the "unwilling recipient of WWX's unilateral decisions" list, and that their shared hobby of being worried about the juniors would afford JC the chance to observe WN.
Anyway, I love the political fantasy of For What, For All But Myself so much. And I love JC's confusion about LXC's letters. And everything else!
As a general rule I go along with most ships - I can't really think of one I'd actively avoid, it depends on the story whether I'll read it or not.
That being said, I'm not big on NingCheng - but some fics have convinced me it might be doable, but usually in Modern AUs or where things are completely different from the start. In those cases I can see it working out, two younger siblings bonding over over bearing older siblings, or being in the same class and JC not liking WN being bullied/WN being nice to JC when he's having a rough time - sure, I've no objections. Them pairing up in canon, or after canon, I struggle to see how it happens.
The thing for me about the GC reveal is WN went out of his way to be as callous and cruel as possible, knowing he was definitely going to hurt JC badly, and I think he enjoyed it in the moment. Maybe he started to feel bad later, but in the moment I think he enjoyed getting to do that to someone he doesn't like.
I just can't see how JC moves past that. He might accept that JL is sorta safe around him, he might let WN into LP to appease WWX, but I struggle to see how he gets from the soul wrenching anger and hate he feels to anything more positive.
To lean into my own version of them, I have tried and tried to make them make peace in the Burn Series that For What is a part of, and every time JC either starts yelling or runs away. He doesn't feel safe around WN, because WN not only killed JZX and could be taken over again and used as a weapon, he's shown himself to be vicious and poisonous with his words when he wants to be. And don't forget, WN saw what the Wen did to JC, he watched it all, and JC is absolutely terrified that one day WN will decide that he doesn't feel like keeping that secret anymore. If he could spill his beloved Wei-gongzi's secret to hurt JC, he would surely think nothing of spilling JC's to hurt him.
It's a clash between JC's observations that WN will protect the juniors, will protect WWX, the understanding that WN was also a victim of WWX's choices, that WN saved him and got his parents bodies back, and his deep seated fear of WN's knowledge, his hatred of him for being the ones WWX chose, and the unforgettable mental and emotional scar that was the reveal.
As the series stands I can't see them ever getting along, it's more teeth gritting silence on both sides for the sake of the others. But you never know, I might get them to coolly courteous one day!
TL;DR As characters they could be very cute as a couple, but you'd probably need to change the whole narrative around them to make it happen.

What do you think of people hating on LXC because he said wwx was lwj's only mistake? (Don't want to start flames but I want someone to support lxc's point of view in this because he's also valid)
I’m trying really hard to find a way to answer this without awaking the disk horse, let’s see if I can manage it.
Also anon I took forever to answer you and then proceeded to write way, way too much, so I’m doubly sorry!
I’m going to focus on the novel because I feel like LXC’s arc is much more nuanced (and therefore easier to misunderstand) in the novel.
From a meta standpoint, LXC plays a really interesting role a few times, which I’m sure has an actual name for people who study literature but I can’t think of it right now so I’ll call mentor-antagonist. He’s a mentor because he consistently guides WWX towards understanding LWJ - which, surprise surprise, it’s an important thing in a romance. But he’s an antagonist because he just as consistently puts himself in the role of LWJ’s protector. From the first time we meet him, all the way to Guanyin, LXC keeps saying with increasing clarity and frustration “This is how much my brother loves you - do you love him back just as much?” He informs WWX of what LWJ won’t say, but he puts a price to LWJ’s affection where LWJ actually puts none. LWJ is trying to say “I love you no matter what, even if you never love me back” but LXC keeps translating it to WWX as “LWJ’s love is entirely selfless, and what are you doing to deserve it?”
Even the very first time we meet him - who is LXC pointing out LWJ is in a good mood for? Maybe in-universe it’s just a passing comment, but as a reader, it’s hard not to think in hindsight that maybe introducing the guy who gatekeeps LWJ’s heart by having him say “You make LWJ unusually happy, and you’re literally screaming and crying to get away from him” miiiiiiight have future implications.
WWX is constantly shocked that LWJ can stand him, let alone love him, and LXC is almost an externalization of that. I mean, that’s an oversimplification, he has his own agenda and everything, but when LXC says “You don’t deserve my brother” and WWX answers back “I don’t care, I want him and I’ve always wanted him even when I deserved it even less than I do now” that feels like an incredible character moment because that is the thing WWX struggles with.
And I feel like that’s why people get so, so mad about this. WWX saying to JZX “You don’t deserve my sister” in every adaptation? lol yeah he’s right. But we’re meant to identify with WWX, and LXC is just (metaphorically) shouting every single one of WWX’s insecurities at him, and that’s very hurtful, even though we know LXC loves LWJ more than anything. So I feel that people take issue with this not because of LXC’s actual words, but because they feel the urge to protect WWX, which only shows what a great writer MXTX is.
As for why LXC would say this... well, why wouldn’t he? I mean, we Know how WWX feels and we also know the reasons behind his actions, but from an outsider’s perspective, all WWX has ever done in the novel (which is very different from the drama, and in the drama LXC is much warmer towards WWX as a consequence of that) is hurt LWJ over and over and over and over. If LWJ were my brother and I knew his love was as intense as it is, I’m not sure that I also wouldn’t be upset that someone seems to take advantage of it when it’s convenient and walk away when it’s not. LXC doesn’t have the benefit of seeing the ways in which WWX makes LWJ’s life better, but he’s always the one picking up the pieces after LWJ ends up heartbroken for the 4378492th time, so of course his idea of WWX skews towards the negative. And I mean... whenever he tells WWX to Do Better WWX misunderstands everything and Does Worse. Of course LXC is frustrated. It’s no one’s fault, it’s just that LXC doesn’t have all the info, nor does WWX. That’s kind of the theme of the novel.
Anyway, the tl;dr is that I don’t think people who hate on LXC for that moment can be convinced not to by being shown LXC’s POV, because the issue is, imho, about overidentifying with WWX and being understandably hurt when LXC says something hurtful. But I totally get that some people read romance with the purpose of projecting onto the main character, so I’m not about to say identification is bad or anything. I think (a lot of) these people engage with the novel in a way fundamentally different from the way I do,* so I’m not sure there’s much profit in trying to convert one another to The One Correct Interpretation.
* I don’t want to overgeneralize, though. It’s entirely possible to dislike LXC in general or in this moment for reasons other than this, this is just what seems most common in my experience, but it might not even be the most common attitude! But I can’t speak of what I have no experience with, so I’m limiting the scope to the circles of fandom I’m in.

Star Wars AU - Pt. 1
Well my friends, the people have spoken!
I now have enough spoons to think about something.
So. Let's get out of the way some things.
Wen Ruohan, Wen Chao, Wen Xu and their goons are Sith
Jin Guangshan is viscid enough to be the equivalent of Chancellor Palpatine
The Nie are Mandalorian.
I still don't know where to place the Lan clan, suggestions welcome.
I am fully aware that everyone probably expects WWX/LWJ/JC to be somewhat like Obi Wan and Anakin, BUT that is NOT how things are going to be in my AU - also, there are plenty of those takes and I appreciate them all, but here things are going to go differently.
I will be modifying stuff to fit into a decent plot
This is all fanmade, also I am still learning all of the lore, so don't @ me thanks
So, WRH sends WZL to maul all remaining Jedis during the Fall of the Jedis. WWX is probably the only one managing to run away, somehow hides in a ship going to adestination as far away as possible from the Jedi and gets found by JFM, imperial senator, who is not immeditely aware that WWX is a Jedi.
JFM basically thinks, "Oh, lost kid, starved, wounded, no parents. Yeah, let's bring him home".
WWX is absolutely terrified of Droids and it just so happens that JC, JFM's son, has three Droids called Love, Princess and Jasmine. JFM deactivates them, sends them to be sold for parts and let's just say that it's going to be on JYL, JC's older sister, to flatten down the disagreements.
Once WWX feels a bit more comfortable, he starts doing his Jedi things for JC and JYL and when both JFM and YZY, JFM's wife, spot that, they react in a suboptimal way.
JFM: Oh, look,I now have a Jedi son, this is great, who cares if anyone discovers that.
YZY: YOU FOOL, YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING IMBECILE, YOU HAVE A SON ALREADY, WWX IS A NOBODY FROM AN ORDER THAT DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE AND IF THIS IS DISCOVERED WE ARE IN DANGER!
YZY to JC: YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO BE BETTER THAN ANYTHING IN THE UNIVERSE!
YZY to WWX: YOU ARE NOTING BUT A LEFTOVER OF A PAST THAT DOESN'T EXIST, DON'T GET TOO HIGH ON THAT HORSE!
Once again the actual parent figure is JYL, who gets bethroted to JZX, JGS's son, by YZY because now that a JEDI is in the Jiang jurisdiction, she wants to have some sort of security/safety in case the Empire ruled by Sith Lord WRH decides to kill them.

I just noticed!!!). this is what couples in this universe do! dw about kissing. staring intently at each other from an arms-length is the height of romance. and you know what they're right
not that I wouldn't kill for one good wx kiss in ep50. but they're right. sometimes romance is in all the littler things
they call jc 'little' huh. to indicate his youth, and accentuate his helplessness and victimization? don't think that was his goal during the duel
oh my god this scene is fucking hilarious. the poor 19 year old with zero history of working with kids. thrust into this position, a child wailing on his leg, beset on all sides by concerned well-meaning strangers. usually so poised and confident, he's shrunk into himself so much he can barely speak. I Just read a WangXian fanfic, it's about After Marriage-WWX being reborn to The Ambush QiongqiDao. I saw the author warn: "JiangFamily haters don't come".
So I still come and read because I thought the author warned those who indiscriminately hate JFM and JYL and I don't hate those 2.
But the first paragraph I see was:
Wei Wuxian's eyes become clear, when he saw Jin Zixuan, he blurted out, "Brother, Brother in law... " His eyes wandered, unknown whether filled with surprise or guilt.
!!!???
I feel like spitting out my drink.
The hell, dude??? Calling Jin Zixuan out of nowhere as brother in law, while Wei Wuxian actually has no blood relationship at all, listen, even to Jiang Yanli he calls her his Shijie, not A-Jie---hence calling JZX bro in law that is already so cringe, and super OOC. Wei Wuxian didn't even call Lan Xichen in that way, who is clearly his Brother In Law, so wth with calling JZX like that? It makes me filled with goosebumps.
Then, what is the matter with "eyes filled with guilt"???
Doesn't it mean that the author actually think WWX is to blame for Jin Zixuan's death? He is responsible, but not to be blamed.
I can understand WWX feeling emotional if he meets JYL again because, I'm sorry the person you love most actually died in my hand, and thank you for all your kindness.
But toward Jin Zixuan? Someone whom Wei Wuxian had always disapproved at throughout the novel, would he feel that kind of emotion? Impossible.
Most likely, if WWX was reborn in QiongqiDao, he would be shocked, of course, and instead of acting mushy mushy with Jin Zixuan, he would definitely, Run!! Avoid!! Stay away from this walking disaster!! Someone whom if got accidentally hurt even a little would bring so much trouble.
Especially Wei Wuxian after marriage who has already known about the whole truth, would definitely avoid and refuse to become Jin Guangyao's knife to harm Zixuan again, hence he would definitely stay away first and foremost in this QiongqiDao ambush.
Throughout the novel, WWX never take the blame of killing Jin Zixuan or feel guilty that it was his sin. The thing that broke him down the most is not Zixuan died under Wen Ning, but because Zixuan's identity as Jiang Yanli's husband and what will happen to her if her husband die.
Because, if Jin Zixuan is not JYL's husband, then WWX killing him is just a matter of foregone conclusion. After all, the one who conspire against Jin Zixuan is his own beloved step brother. The one who ambushed and provoked WWX causing his anger to surge, are Zixuan's beloved cousin and father. WWX already told him not to get close, yet he still wanted to grab WWX when this person is clearly in the state of extreme anger.
You don't have self awareness when a dragon is going berserk, stupidly approaching the dragon, so when you die, is it the dragon's fault or your fault?
But the dead is the greatest and could not be blamed, so in the end the living one had to take the responsibility of killing you. How frustrating.
But the more frustrating one is how some authors really like to make WWX cries snots and tears, taking the pot of blames, feeling guilty for Jin Zixuan, feeling guilty for the Jiang Couple, feeling guilty for the whole JinJiang family, wtf??
As if WWX is not a human with independent thoughts. As if WWX's whole existence in MDZS is to feel guilty for JinJiang family. Damn! I feel so angry.
Sure enough.
Those who warned Jiang Family haters are probably the JinJiang Family lovers.
But they are obviously not WangXian lovers!
Because obviously, they didn't understand Wei Wuxian's mentality enough, took it for granted, mold his character to suit their desire, in order to make the so called "Happy End", for JinJiang family that is.

Given that their last interaction during the Sunshot Campaign was the whole Heterosexual Soup Drama, how do I turn that around for them? 😿 I don't currently have plans to include the Phoenix Mountain Group Hunt -- at least not in its current form -- so I don't see any opportunities in the near future for JZX to go on Awkward Nature Walks with Jiang Yanli and make bad attempts at impressing her by his knowledge of monsters... so... what, in SPAAAACE, could take the place of that?
(There's always Lotus Pond Building, but that takes place later in their courtship I think -- can't have Jin Zixuan getting his hands dirty to Make Jiang Yanli Feel At Home until they're already at a place where she's visiting Jinlintai regularly...)

What if, somewhere after Guanyin temple (maybe a couple of years) shits settles down a bit, but of course, tension is still here. one night hunt, where an area has had many problematic spirits, both ymj and gsl disciples are here, including jl who joined to give a hand (and to meet his friend after so long).
Things are still tense between shuangjie (and don't even mention hgj), but they talk a bit through the years and can now stay in the same area (even room!) without being at each other's throats.
But at some point, an argument started (wwx should probably have kept his mouth shut when jc brought up jzx). the argument escalates to a point where wwx gets on the defensive and says things he might not think, only making jl more upset than he already was, making everything worst.
Jl in sick of hearing wwx badmouth his dad (though he /did/ see a change in recent years), and only remembering the thing he heard about wwx past relationship with his dad and what he did and years of frustration have build-up and he just blows up, he needs to get it all out.
"How can you tell he wouldn't be great today? *you* are the reason my father is *dead*, and don't even mention how my mother would think, you weren't with her when she married him, how would you know what their relationship was like? You couldn't know today either because you are also the reason she *died*, if it wasn't for you and your stupid choice both my parent would be alive. The one who should be dead is /you/, not her! You should just have stayed dead!"
after this jl is a bit out of breath, years of resentment out and after jc scolds him for his last statement.
(when he cools down he does wince at the implication of his word. in the past he might have wanted wwx dead, but today it wasn't really to that point. he was by no means close to him, but still).
but for now, jl looks back towards wwx as he's about to argue against what jc said.
but he stops in his attempt. Something seems wrong, wwx body language seems off, lwj looking carefully at his husband while lsz looks uneasy at his own words.
Something is wrong and he can't put his finger on it.
"You're right" wwx finally says, a smile that seems a bit too stiff on his lips, "I caused that didn't I? I truly have no say in this, my apologies sl jin".
and this seems even more off, even jc frowns at it because something seems wrong with his shixiong.
then wwx tries to laugh off being scolded like this by his shijie's son "Don't look like this lz, jl is right" and instead grabs his arm, trying to pull him away as he says they'll just go see in another part of the forest if they could be needed.
jl stops lzs before he could go, trying to ask what was wrong, only to see more uneasiness on his friend's face, "I don't think it would be appropriate to talk about this here" he says looking around, eyes also avoiding jc staring, "But you don't need to worry, senior wei is... alright".
jl isn't convinced, but he doesn't want to force his friend to tell him. On the other side, a queasy feeling settles in jc, because this doesn't feel right, even less if it something that shouldn't talk about anywhere that is private.
Something happened for sure.
for the rest of the night, wwx acts a bit weird, but he does settle closer to what he usually is like. yet, anytime someone crosses their path, hgj is uneasily keeping his eyes on him, scanning his every move and expression.
some even find it odd how hgj actually seems to not let wwx approach anything that could actually be dangerous. Isn't senior wei a good cultivator? Can't he deal with these rather small fries himself? why stop him from doing so?

Everything goes alright until everything is over and wwx is left alone with himself and his thoughts (lwj forced to go to paperwork and wwx saying he needs some alone time).
and the spiral back into guilt and self-loathing comes back. wwx had managed to push them far to the back of his mind, but jl words had triggered it.
Why was he here? He should be dead. He was good dead and apparently, everyone was doing better when he was dead, so why was he still here? Causing problems for everyone around him?
being a reminder of what people had lost because of /him/? Being the worse shixiong ever? Reminding jl of why and how exactly his parent died? being the creator of something that was now eating at many young cultivators who were trying to follow his old path?
He should have stayed dead and everyone seemed to agree with him.
He did try to find a way to bring back mxy, in the hope his soul hadn't completely shattered. He knows how it would have affected lwj, but this time he could have given a proper goodbye to the man. he felt really lucky that he could actually be happy when the sole purpose to his revival was to /kill people/. another thing to the list, apparently he was only good to kill people...
He had been happy like he should not be allowed, he could have said goodbye to lz and given mxy a chance to have a better life, maybe lwj would have accepted his last wish of making sure mxy would be alright.
But his research was fruitless and it seemed rather impossible for him to bring back mxy (this is also probably what ticked lwj suspicion.) but if he couldn't at least give mxy a second chance, he could give everyone else what they wanted and simply die. His reason to be alive was only to serve a purpose in the first place and it had already been done years ago, so truly he had no reason to be here.
So he tried to die again, which failed by very little because lwj found him before he could succeed in that.
With that, he had disappeared from "the public eyes", kept under close watch as to not have him tried something like this again. They tried working through the issue They have sessions where lwj plays him song of clarity when his suicidal thoughts come back stronger. It took months before he was able get back on his feet, although he is still under close watch from lsz and lwj after all these years.
this was the first time in a very long time since wwx had such a violent surge of these thoughts, even if he tried to hide it (they had already helped him so much, he cannot depend on them forever, right?).
he was surprised when lsz came to him to play soc, it did help him calm down from his sudden attack and it took a very long time for both lan to bring him back to a more stable state of mind, lwj joining as quickly as he could (paperwork were not as well done, as usual, that is for sure). They didn't sleep that night, but making sure that wwx wouldn't do something to harm himself and make him understand that no, he didn't just do bad things in his life, even in this second one he has helped many people.
It did take a while for wwx to do better again (lwj and lsz never leaving his side).

lsz would probably eventually tell jc if the man were to come back to him about it. there was still tension between the two, but clearly, slj couldn't just drop all his worries for wwx even after everything (talking through some stuff also did help). Maybe jl would also be told.
The number of people knowing about wwx attempt is very low, kept to the bare minimum. Of course, he and lwj know, and so do lqr and lxc since they are lwj family. The healers who saved wwx know (although they do not have the full situation about wwx mental state at the time).
the only "outsider" who know is ljy, since lsz did need someone to talk about it that wasn't as affected by it as lwj was.
so adding two people that were related to jc in a way wouldn't be bad either.
lsz really felt like jc could know (which could be helpful if anything were to happen in the future and only jc was around, at least he would know about wwx struggles).
He would probably be a bit hesitant to tell jl at the same time, despite not wanting to hide it from it either lsz wouldn't want his friend to possibly think what happened was entirely his fault (wwx had some low time over the years after all), he could see where the frustration come from and he hadn't watched his words (but it could help in the future.
I do wonder how they would react

More Untamed ficlets when I should be sleeping, yay!
Madame Yu hated the boy.
But if she were inclined to be fair, which she usually isn't, she would have to admit that it wasn't because of anything the boy himself did. No, she hated the rumors that his presence sparked, that her husband would disrespect her enough to have an affair with a woman who had rejected him. She hated the way that despite her best efforts, her children regarded him as a sibling. But most of all, she hated the way her husband looked upon the boy with more tenderness than he did upon his own children. Her own children.
It was far too late to get rid of him. Now that he had developed a golden core, to toss him out without teaching him how to properly develop it would be worse than negligence. An improperly developed core could lead to overloaded meridians, causing weakness in the body later in life. So no, she couldn't just kick him out.
But perhaps she could make use of him in another way.
Her maids packed efficiently, as they always have. The boy was training, and as such it was nothing for Yinzhu to sneak in and put a change of clothes in a bag for him. He would not need much. As Madame Yu wrote a note to her daughter, to avoid straining her constitution with worry, Jinzhu got the boat ready. Jiang Fengmian received no such note. He could pace a hole in the floor for all she cared.
By the time Madame Yu walked onto the dock, the boat was prepared and her maids were seated primly, a confused, sulking and soaking wet Wei Ying between them. She raised her eyebrow. Yinzhu said, "He was struggling, so I put him in the lake until he cooled off."
"I told you I could walk by myself," Wei Ying groused. "You didn't need to carry me."
Madame Yu's exact order had been for Yinzhu to pick up Wei Ying from training when they were ready to go. If she decided to interpret her orders entirely literally, Madame Yu was not going to take that from her. Especially since she had also ordered her maids to mind Wei Ying and keep him from annoying her as much as possible. They should get to have some fun.
The journey was peaceful. The river was slow this time of year, so the trip upriver was quick and not turbulent. Wei Ying ran to and fro on the boat but, largely due to Jinzhu and Yinzhu's efforts, stayed away from the shaded pavilion Madame Yu sat under. He fell into the water twice. Gradually, the river narrowed as tributaries branched off, and the water became the swift, clear white waters Madame Yu knew best, and the disciples driving the boat were forced to put down their bamboo poles and use talismans to propel the boat instead.
Finally, they stopped. Meishan Yu had one dock for trading, situated on a slow moving canal dug for that exact purpose. The rest of the river was too fast for any boat to stay docked for long and ran as wild and free as the people who lived along it. The disciples were given their orders, to wait for Madame Yu's return, and then Madame Yu and her maids took their charge into the mountains.
The hall of her grandmother was grand and old, although not as old as the woman herself. It was not a sect headquarters, not technically, but it was where most of the juniors were trained before they were sent into the wilds to complete their lessons.
Her grandmother sat in the central chair on the dais, with Madame Yu's twin elder sisters on either side. Madame Yu stopped a respectful distance away. Jinzhu and Yinzhu retreated to the sides of the hall. They would not be needed here. At her side, Wei Ying fell to his knees and pressed his forehead against the floor, as she had instructed him. Madame Yu bowed. "Popo. Da-jie. Er-jie."
"Ziyuan." Da-jie stood at her grandmother's nod, and took three steps forward, so Madame Yu was addressing her directly. She was the head of Meishan Yu. It was only right. "Why have you come here?"
She knew already. Madame Yu had sent a letter ahead. But now it was time for Madame Yu to make her case. "I have come to have this child trained as a Pearl." Beside her, Wei Ying gasped. She had not told him of the reason she was bringing him here. It was not his business. Wisely, he said nothing.
Da-jie sniffed. "You have two Pearls, Ziyuan. To have more is greedy."
"Not for myself. For my son."
Er-jie laughed. She had not approved of Ziyuan's marriage, but she had not had a voice at the time. "Your son is Jiang. Only Yu may have Pearls."
"My son is half Yu. The blood of the steppe runs through his veins as it does mine." He was not much of a Yu, to be fair. His anger was as quick as the river that rushed through the wilds, but he was timid in his decisions, too soft and slow to deviate from the path carved before him. He was like the slow rivers of Yunmeng.
Perhaps he should come here for training as well.
Da-jie considered. Madame Yu knew it would not be a hardship for her to train Wei Ying. The training for a Pearl was far more intensive than for a disciple, but Wei Ying had already shown a knack for learning and adapting quickly. And it would be a change of pace for Da-jie, who changed the training schedule weekly to keep from getting bored. Training a Pearl would keep her entertained for a while.
Slow as the sun setting behind the mountain, a smile crept over Da-jie's face. "One Pearl for half a Yu. Very well, Ziyuan. Shanzhu. Fengzhu." At her call, Da-jie's Pearls came forward. "Take this out into the field and test him."
Shanzhu grabbed Wei Ying by the back of his robes and hauled him to his feet. He looked upon her with eyes wide. "Madame Yu?"
She did not owe him an explanation. He owed her sect his life and she was going to ensure that life would be a useful one. But something in his gaze made her soften. She did not owe him an explanation. But for most of his life, he had not had a home. And now she was taking from him what her husband had promised would always be his. So Madame Yu said, "you may return to Lotus Pier once you have finished your training."
Wei Ying did not get a chance to respond, as Shanzhu pulled on his arm and dragged him away. But he looked determined rather than frightened.
Er-jie watched as they left. Then she slung an arm around her younger sister's shoulders. "Well. While you're here, why don't we renegotiate our trade contracts? I would love to take even more chilis and lotus silk from you."
"Xiao-Yan." Popo stood and took Ziyuan's hands in her own. "Welcome back, Xiao-Yuan. Come. You shall have lunch and tell me of my grandchildren, and then you will explain why they haven't visited me in four years."
"Yes Popo." Lunch was delicious, and almost as hot as she preferred it to be.
The trip home was quick and quiet, especially with Wei Ying no longer on the boat. When she got home, she was pleased to see that a-Li had not told her father where Wei Ying was, as she had requested. A-Cheng was grumpy but not worried, so she had told him, but Fengmian was in a state of panic. He clearly hadn't played enough attention to his children to see that they were calm.
He was not pleased when she told him where Wei Ying was. But in the end, he did not have a leg to stand on. As the Lady of Yunmeng Jiang, she had final say on which disciples she trained personally and which she did not. If she decided to outsource the training of a disciple to another sect, that was her business. Additionally, she could guarantee that Wei Ying would be fed, clothed, and housed while he was gone, which is what he had been promised when Fengmian had acquired him.
A-Cheng and a-Li both spent the fall and spring in Meishan for the two years after that. The year after, Wei Ying returned as Tiezhu and received Wuxian as a courtesy name, the same day a-Cheng received Wanyin.
Wei Wuxian had used his time in Meishan well, and it did not take him long to catch up with the other juniors. Fengmian named him head disciple, probably to spite Madame Yu, but even she had to admit that he had the skills for it. Wei Wuxian was better even than some of his seniors.
Fengmian stopped praising Wei Wuxian for his skills when the boy stopped reacting well to them. In Meishan, pretty words were meaningless, as ephemeral as the clouds in the sky. Fengmian had never understood that in all the years they'd been married.
Wei Wuxian was stronger than her son. He always had been, and he always would be. Madame Yu had always known this. But now, he was a weapon for her son to wield, a sword to pierce his enemies or a shield to take the blows meant for him. Now, Wei Wuxian's strength was Jiang Wanyin's strength.
Madame Yu watched her son grumble at his laughing Pearl, as a-Li fed them baozi. Her own Jinzhu brought her some more tea while Yinzhu stood at her shoulder.
Her son would always be protected. Her daughter too, if Madame Yu read Wei Wuxian correctly. And this, this was something she could be content with.

Madame Yu gets Jinzhu and Yinzhu (gold pearl and silver pearl), so why not Jiang Cheng, I ask myself at an hour past my bedtime? Tiezhu means iron pearl, but the (very brief, very sleep deprived) research I did said that 铁 tie also means weapon, unshakeable, determined, strong, and close, as in "always close to Jiang Cheng". I thought it fit but I might disagree with myself in the morning.
Oh, and Shanzhu means mountain pearl and Fengzhu means summit pearl. Probably. Feel free to correct me if those are wrong

Here's my mdzs hot take/unpopular opinion:
I don't mind if jfm was nicer to wwx than his own children
I mean God forbid jfm be softer on the kid who lost both his parents and had to live in the streets, fend for himself for years, and suffered more in his short life than most people will in a lifetime. Any adult with a heart (madam Ew doesn't count, she's only a breathing talking pile of sh*t) would go easy on a kid with wwx's circumstances, especially considering what a sweet boy wwx was despite everything he was through, it's normal that he would melt even the iciest of hearts (except yzy's cuz hers was carved out of stone)
So yeah I wouldn't hate jfm if he was nicer to wwx. It's not like he was abusing and neglecting his own children at the same time, unlike what the JC/YZY stans would have us believe. While yzy was abusive and a b*tch to her children, screaming at them, mocking and demeaning them, and that's when she wasn't away on some "night hunt", jfm was the one who stood up for his daughter when he realized what jzx thought of her, he was the one who tried to correct jc's wrong ideas calmly and rationally without yelling at him or making fun of him. even when jfm brought wwx to LP and wwx was scared of jc's puppies he didn't send them away immediately, he waited for days to see if wwx will adjust but when he didn't and jfm realized the dogs had to go for wwx to feel safe in his new home, he didn't just send them away he tried to talk to jc about it 1st.
Imo jfm's only fault as a parent is allowing his wife to abuse his children and ward and turn his own son against him.
Which really makes me wonder what did yzy do to break him? When he was talking to jgs about ending their kids' engagement he didn't bend when jgs argued for keeping the engagement, and he was willing to go demand WRH return his disciples swords knowing that WRH wasn't above killing his fellow sect leaders (actually it's even telling and funny how jfm would rather face Wen f*cking Ruohan than stay home with yzy), and in the attack on LP he went back in there knowing that there was no chance he could win or come out alive, heck even before marrying yzy he had the guts to refuse her and family for a while despite the pressure they were putting on him. It's only when dealing with that woman that jfm seems to completely lose his spine.
Anyways it's true jfm won't be getting a father of the year award (that one goes to wangxian and lqr as the runner up) but he wasn't a bad one either, he was at worst a sub-par parent imo.
I wouldn't have minded if JFM had been nicer to Wei Wuxian but he wasn't. People are like "he was easier on him" .... um that's bc WWX wasn't the one suggesting THEY STAND BY AND LET INNOCENT PEOPLE DIE. People can't really be this devoid of logic?!
I think some people have a really weird concept of parenting. A parent correcting their child's behavior is not hate, it's literally their job. A job a lot of parents today don't quite bother to do. JFM isn't "hating on his son" bc he's trying to raise him to be a decent person. How did these people pass through their childhoods?! Did they think every time their parents corrected their behavior it was a personal attack on them!? No bloody wonder they relate to jiang cheng.
I don't personally feel that there was much JFM could've done to help WWX in the Jiang household...and trust me it took me a while to get to this bc at first I was like... you're telling me he couldn't just put his foot down, chuck her off a pier? But alas he couldn't divorce YZY or chuck her off a pier. She also came from a powerful clan. A clan powerful enough and scheming enough to pressure him into marrying her venomous ass. He tries here :
Jiang FengMian, “My lady, what are you doing here?”
Madam Yu, “What am I doing here? What a joke that I am asked of such a thing! Sect Leader Jiang, do you still remember that I’m also the leader of Lotus Pier? Do you still remember that every inch of the earth here is my territory?
Not exactly a resounding success. The best thing to do was to avoid her as much as possible. If he gave in to what she wanted she would've taken a mile. If he'd stood up for WWX she would've just flipped her shit more the way her son did in the ancestral hall when WWX stood up for LWJ. YZY and jc are really cut from the same cloth. As for why he stood up for YanLi, probably that was his line in the sand. Knowing how miserable his own marriage had made him he couldn't bear the thought of his daughter suffering through the same thing and he still had some control over that. Considering how Jin Zixuan was acting about her it's completely understandable.
Lastly I believe JFM went to get the swords at the behest of the Wens or rather he was purposely lured away from Lotus Pier. Or at least that's what WWX surmises.
Wei WuXian asked, “Uncle Jiang went out so early in the morning—why hasn’t he come back yet? Would he make it in time for dinner?”
In the morning, Jiang FengMian and Madam Yu had an argument again. To call it an argument didn’t seem quite right. Madam Yu alone lost her temper, while some of Jiang FengMian’s bearing remained throughout the entire exchange. Jiang Cheng answered, “He’s at the Wen Sect for our swords again, isn’t he? Whenever I think that my Sandu might be held in the hands of a Wen-dog right now, I…”
....
Wei WuXian remembered Jiang FengMian, who went out earlier, and thought, They purposely chose to come at such a time. Or, rather, they purposely led Uncle Jiang out of here!
I mean not a bad strategy considering YZY loses her shit when she hears about the supervisory office and gets the whole Clan killed. Further supporting WWX’s assertion, I don't believe JFM was returning with the swords. One because he would have probably given them back to WWX and jc and two because :
Two months ago, the Two Jades of Lan cooperated in a surprise attack with Jiang Cheng. They took back the swords that had been gathered from each sect’s disciples at Wen Chao’s ‘sector of indoctrination’, bringing them back to their owners. Only then did Sandu and Bichen return to them.
Lan WangJi’s light eyes glanced at the other sword at Jiang Cheng’s waist. He turned his gaze away.
A few moments later, staring straight in front of him, he asked, “Has Wei Ying still not appeared yet?”

Jin Zixuan is always shown as being absent whenever JGY-related things are happening in book canon.
From a doyalist perspective, I believe this is probably to maintain the image of JZX as someone who is good in an uncomplicated way, because having JZX in any way involved or witness to anything that JGY does or is subjected to would complicate JZX to a degree that could harm the story.
Can you come up with a Watsonian explanation for JZX's convenient absences?

I've actually thought a bit of that myself before tbh. I love Jin sibs, and I think these two in particular should have been given the chance to get closer and be (awkward) brothers. But then there's the fact that JZX doesn't seem to be around much.
So, my working theory is JGS. We know this man is manipulative and unrestrained, he would us whatever assets he had to his advantage and he's not above using his own family.
On one hand, he has his legitimate son and heir, the golden boy of the cultivation world, and probably one of the few ppl keeping the good name of the Jin clan; he's clearly righteous and with a conscience... JGS has no use for someone like that in his machinations; in fact, he can become a liability. His best course of action with JXZ was keeping him as far away as possible from the political scene and his plans. JZX just got married and had a son, it's much easier to have him focus on them, or going around doing cultivator stuff, being a figure of everything that's good about the Jin, instead of around Koi Tower and all the dirty little secrets deep within.
On the other hand, he has his bastard son, completely devoted and obsessed with the idea of impressing him and gaining his aproval; he's smart, cunning and the perfect minion and scapegoat. He could do with him whatever he wanted and make him do whatever he wanted too. JGY knew all too much... there's no way he's letting that boy anywhere near someone who can do something to stop him, aka the next sect leader, already known and liked. While he can trust JGY to not say a thing, he cannot trust JZX to not figure something off. It's easier to just tell the bastard to not get too close to his brother, for the sake of his father's plans and JZX's own safety, of course.
While on the subject, on the rare occasions in which JGY and JZX did cross paths, as previously mentioned, JGY wouldn't have said a thing and would have tried to keep him as far away as possible from all the schemes he was partaking in and the mistreatment he was enduring; if JZX went to his father with any sort of complain of demand for an explanation, JGS would have known right away that it was JGY (or just punish him for the sake of it). JGY couldn't trust or rely on his brother, so he wouldn't go out of his way to look for him.
So I think the reason why we don't see JZX a lot during JGY's time in Lanling is bc their father orchestrated it like that to use both his sons to his convenience. One son for the light, the other for the shadow.
