Rowley: 7. What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling? When he’s alone, he can get strongly nostalgic in a very bitter way. He has those very dark moments absorbed in his thoughts in any case, but in all versions where his brother is dead/gone, it becomes much more intense, obviously. It’s caused by cherry tries (they climbed those as boys to steal the fruits), stew similar to the one their mother made, artful tailoring and embroidery since it was the favorite hobby and the profession of his brother (imagine his shock in BG3 when he got to know that Astarion is good at it), warm light falling on the streets from houses he passes, certain kinds of birds, lutes and/or guitars, big ships … 12. How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach? I love this question so much. 😂 Rowley is very lithe and flexible, so he’ll probably just bend until he gets there, not caring much about etiquette, he never does. If it’s due to what he’s wearing, he might just get rid of the disruptive parts of his clothes for a moment, asking whoever he’s with to wait a moment. ~ Salvadore: 11. How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)? Salvadore is intelligent, very knowledgeable in his fields of interest, educated, and loves reading and learning. Unfortunately, this goes hand in hand with a certain know-it-all attitude. If a topic is outside his area of expertise, he’ll just calmly ask for clarification or for a more in-depth report on the matter. He can’t possibly admit it, though, should he lack a piece of information belonging to his special interests, or to not having been aware of something obvious or commonly known that will be important to his plans and goals. In those cases, he pretends to understand and looks it up immediately when he is alone. E) Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you? Salvadore is in control of his own life and himself in a way I envy to a degree. His discipline, the ability to lead and inspire, true confidence which is not just pretense, he has many traits and abilities I would love to possess, too. Of course, they come with a price, and, different from him, I’m not made to or willing to aim at the highest highs. He has his strongly annoying sides too, but I’m very used to them after 10+ years. Since he’s so close to me, he isn’t even able to intimidate me like other people with his presence and demeanor would. As far as I know, Salvadore likes me too, and tries to get me to fight harder for my dreams and goals. - A push much appreciated.

Small Idea on Optic/eye colors but make it Feral

Okay, so I really like an Au where Optimus is somewhat feral. He grew up in the wastelands of Cybertron and so he had to fend for himself until Alpha Trion or somebot took him in.

And I had an idea what if Optimus’s eyes change color if he goes feral, I like to think he would be able to go into a “Feral Mode” and his eyes would probably change to show he’s in that mode.

I kind of imagine it as a code in their processors so if it’s a code implanted into the processor technically, you could call upon that code if you choose to, I kind of had another idea about that.

What if the code can be transferred to an offsprin’ if that's true, if Optimus ever has a sparklin’ there is a chance that the code could be dormant in his sparklin’ and I think dependin’ on how feral somebot is the more potent the code is.

And I kinda did a thin’ with the cybertronian's optics and their colors

I was gonna actually draw an eye but I didn’t feel like it, so this is what I did now this is just a rough sketch. So it may or may not change in the near future.

And yes I know that Breakdown had more of a darker yellow I just didn’t have enough room for it, and I did try to get the colors as close as I could without doin’ a color grab.

I started this last night and I had an itch to make an animation of the optic changing into the “feral state”. It was actually quite fun to make although I've never done it before so it was a new experience for me.

It's actually kinda cool, anyways I'm gettin’ off track.

What if the full feral state is dangerous because there’s a 50-50 chance that you won’t be able to go back to the normal state of mind. I can imagine that most of the bots in the wasteland got killed because of that fact.

Nothin’ can get them out of that state if they can't get back to normal themselves they’re goin’ to be killed on sight, so Orion/Optimus only uses that as a last resort.

Also, I think besides the optics changin’ I think their denta would get sharper and their digits would also get sharper kinda like Megatron's teeth and digits but not like his shark teeth just the lower and upper canines.

I also think that there's a way to tell that they have the feral code. It's very subtle unless you’re looking for it and I think that it's different with each bot.

They’re also looked down on in Cybertron’s society there “feral” and “uncontrollable beasts” Orion had a lot of controversy in the higher society most thought he was goin’ to damage the Iacon, News flash glitch he never did!

Orion probably even hides somewhere high and I mean HIGH to the point where they got seekers to check the high spots in the Iacon they never found him though but most seekers that would be sent to find Orion would claim to feel that they were bein’ watched but could never find the source or they refused to ever try to look for Orion again #traumatized.

They also swore whenever a seeker would refuse to ever go look for Orion again they heard the feral little thin’ giggle.

Well sadly that is all I have for this idea for now, I can’t really think of anythin’ else but I really do like the idea of Orion\Optimus bein’ a feral little slag

literacy in ireland in the mid-19th century

so I was thinking about whether or not Callan (my oc for @moiraimyths' visual novel, Na Daoine Maithe, check it out) would be literate. (or to what extent they would be literate)

Since Cal is made up, i could simply make up the answer.

However I am instead doing some research on literacy rates in Ireland around 1845, and thought I'd share since this is a bit too much info for just dumping in friends' DMs lol.

Here's the TLDR:

MC lives in Galway, which had very low rates of literacy in 1841, especially for women. However, if you want your MC to be able to read (or read and write) prior to the events of the game, some people were indeed literate.

another point to note is that there's differences in literacy levels. think of someone being able to work their way through a simple text slowly and with difficulty, vs someone who can easily read a complicated text. So your MC might not be fully literate but that doesn't necessarily mean they have absolutely 0 skills with written language. It is up to you!

finally, i just did this research for my own interest. in game, there is an option to read Shae's map, so MC is assumed to be literate. Please don't let any of this information take away from your fun. Ignore it entirely if you don't like the concept of your MC being illiterate! Historical accuracy isn't the point - having fun is.

detailed info and some statistics below the cut!

Here's a county map of Ireland. You can see Galway is on the West coast, at the bottom of the Connaught region (blue).

The Éireannach (your MC!) is travelling to Galway in the beginning of the prologue. Galway is referred to as the closest city, and must be close by for it to have been reasonable for MC to be travelling there. The city is on the coast, in the bay of Galway.

In one of the asks from the devs, it was mentioned that they see the LIs speaking primarily in a Connaught accent as well.

Therefore, I'll be using Galway-specific information if it is available. Failing that, information for Connaught, or the West coast, and then lastly information for all-Ireland.

Now for some more specific details!

General information:

roughly 50% of the irish population was able to read in 1850

30% for men and 45% of women getting married in 1850 in ireland were unable to sign their own name in the marriage registrar

most schools charged for learning to read and learning to write separately, and also sequentially. therefore, more people learned how to read and then stopped paying before they learned how to write, which is why the numbers differ.

also in the northeast of ireland (more industrialised in the mid-19th c) there was a higher rate of literacy, whereas most people on the west of ireland were illiterate

it was also easier to practice reading than writing, so the skill of writing would decay faster too

there was surprisingly detailed information taken in the Irish censuses between 1840-1860 (more detailed than that of the British ones, which were administered separately) so that is convenient for me personally.

Gender differences

Across Ireland, the majority of literate women could read but could not write.

However, boys tended to be kept in school longer than girls. The majority of literate men were able to both read and write

Interestingly, in Galway (the county and the city), most literate women could both read and write.

HOWEVER, the majority of women in Galway were illiterate, and could neither read nor write.

In 1861, about 37% of the female population of Connaught was literate.

darker = more literate, and lighter = less literate.

The darker counties (in Ulster) had a significantly higher literate female population, however most of them could read only, and not write as well.

There also wouldn't have been much reading material available for the general public - "there was only a limited supply, largely religious and produced in the towns of Cork, Limerick, Waterford and south Tipperary" (these are all located in the south of Ireland, i.e., pretty far away from where our Éireannach lives).

Most of this information was taken from a paper called 'Varieties of literacy in nineteenth-century Ireland: gender, religion and language' by Niall Ó Ciosáin. I found this online and downloaded for free.

It involves plenty of ZYL sleuthing, and Shen Wei being an overprotective stalker! Also, more flock leader!Shen Wei and fledgling!Li Qian with accompanying worldbuilding :3

5 - In Light Of Stolen Memories

Ohhh, you're gonna like this one, it's deliciously angsty! :3

Kid!ZYL finds a dusty old lantern in the SID's storage and ends up lighting it by accident—and receiving Kunlun's memories of the YOHE era, from when he saved a young Heipaoshi to when he sacrificed himself to light the Guardian Lantern.

Fast forward to canon times, Zhao Yunlan runs into Shen Wei and promptly recognizes him as his Shen Wei. Except... It's not his Shen Wei, is it? It's Kunlun's. Not helped by the fact that Shen Wei recognizes him as Kunlun, when he's not, he's just an imposter. A wannabe Kunlun.

It's Weilan trying to figure out how to build a relationship with the shadow of Kunlun hovering over them. Lots of emotional h/c ;)

6- Soulbond [redacted]

Hmmm, trying to figure out how much to say without giving away the reason for the [redacted]. Let's say it's inspired by a prompt from a certain someone and I'm hoping to write this for them as a gift!

Weilan end up soulbonded and have to figure out how their new abilities and limitations ;) Post-canon fix-it.

13 - Arranged Marriage Weilan

The big longfic of doom OTL. Modern Canon AU in which Dixingren are widely known and there are rising tensions between Dixing and Haixing. Afraid war might break out between them, Heipaoshi offers to marry a Haixingren to reinforce the Treaty. Since he's Director Zhao's son, Zhao Yunlan is the ideal candidate (since HPS specified he wanted a male spouse).

Problem is, Zhao Yunlan is head over heels for Shen Wei, an unassuming paper pusher he met at a government networking party.

Shenanigans ensue in which Shen Wei tries and fails to find alone time with Zhao Yunlan while Heipaoshi is courting him to tell him his secret identity. Also there's some plot with assassins and the like.

It's gonna be a two-parter I probably won't ever finish but by GOD am I gonna write and post the first part (which ends on the wedding night) next year at the latest >:( I've been fiddling with the first 20k I have for over 2 years now, this cannot continue!!

16 - Warlord Kunlun

This is a historical AU in which Kunlun is a roaming alpha warlord, who just defeated Zei Qiu and is claiming everything that belong to the traitorous chief as his war spoils - including the omega twins. Shen Wei pledges himself to Kunlun's service to protect his people (not as a sex slave, but everyone is aware of the bride potential), and then Kunwei fall grossly in love.

32 - Weilan case fic

In which Shen Wei is wrongfully accused of A Crime and the SID has to work against the police to prove his innocence. Meanwhile Shen Wei pretends to be all Harmless (TM) stuck in his jail cell.
