Whumptober 2022: Day 21 - Famous last words
Prompt: Coughing up blood
Summary: It’s not Jason’s fault that he’s sick, Tim knows that, however he can't help but be annoyed by the constant coughing and decides to go and say something about it.
Enjoy! :D
He’s feeling irrationally annoyed right now. Tim knows it’s not Jason’s fault but he still can’t help but be irritated by what’s going on. Jason’s constant coughing is driving him insane, it’s loud and it sounds awful. Every time Jason happens to have a coughing fit, which seems to be like every five minutes, Tim gets distracted and loses track of what he’s doing, he's re-read the same line about seven times by now.
Instead of being in one of his own apartments recovering, Alfred has Jason on lockdown here in the Manor until his chest infection clears up. The only reason Tim is at the Manor himself is because Alfred also has Tim on lockdown as he’s now at the tail end of his recovery period from a knee injury that occurred while he had been on patrol. Tim can’t flee the Manor meaning he can’t escape from Jason trying to hack his lungs up.
Just as he’s about to try and concentrate on his work again another bout of coughing from his brother occurs, it echoes through his room and it feels like it’s vibrating against the walls. Huffing, Tim slams his pen down on his desk and gets up from his chair in order to march his way to Jason’s bedroom across the hall.
Not hesitating when he gets there Tim wrenches the door open and stands in the threshold glaring into the room. Jason’s room is dark apart from where he currently has an old 90’s film playing on his TV. Turning his attention to the bed Tim spots Jason swaddled up in his bed covers and blankets, surrounded by empty water bottles and used tissues.
Tim pulls a face at the sight and then soon winces when Jason coughs again and Tim feels it shake his entire frame. It’s a full chesty, wet cough and sounds absolutely awful. When it passes Jason is left breathing heavily.
Crossing his arms over his chest Tim glares at him. “Could you die quietly please? I’m trying to work.”
“Fuck you.” Comes the instant retort. Tim pulls another face, Jason sounds even worse speaking than he did coughing.
“Not in your condition,” Tim quips, “you’d end up making me ill.”
Jason goes to say something again but his words end up turning into another coughing fit. It lasts for a good minute and once again Jason is left breathing heavily when it ends.
“Well that doesn’t sound good.”
Tim jumps at the sound of a new voice coming from behind him. He looks over his shoulder to find Dick standing behind him, peering into Jason’s room with a concerned look on his face.
“I’m fine,” is Jason’s strong argument.
Behind Tim, Dick snorts. “Sure you are.” There’s a pause between them before Dick nudges Tim out of the way so he could head into Jason’s room. Tim blinks and wonders what Dick is thinking, why would he voluntarily enter the infectious room like that. Then again, he's not the one with the compromised immune system, Dick will probably be fine, if Tim were to enter he guarantees within the next few days he’d be bedridden with flu like symptoms.
From the safety of the threshold, Tim watches as Dick starts cleaning up Jason’s mess. He collects the empty water bottles and puts them to the side before moving onto fussing over Jason himself, Dick rearranges his blankets so they’re more comfortably tucked around him and even puffs up his pillow much to Jason’s obvious dismay. Once their brother is more situated on his bed, Dick grabs the bin and begins collecting the discarded tissues.
Finding the situation no longer interesting, Tim turns to leave, he’ll just have to work out a way to block out Jason’s coughing. He had already tried using headphones but he supposes he could try them again, perhaps another option could be to simply move to another part of the Manor.
“Are you bleeding!”
Dick’s sudden exclamation stops Tim in his tracks, not even three steps away from the room, and he goes back to find Dick examining a used tissue closely.
With a roll of his eyes Jason replies in a raspy voice, “I’ve coughed up some blood yeah, nothing to be concerned about.”
Dick looks scandalized. “’Nothing to be concerned about.’ Jason this could be serious! You coughing up blood could mean all kinds of different things. This isn’t nothing! Does Alfred know about this?”
Jason shakes his head clearly not happy to be on the end of Dick’s mother-henning. The eldest has his hands on his hips and is glaring down at him.
“No. And he doesn’t need to.” Jason says sending Dick his own glare, although any heat behind it is lost due to how exhausted he looks. “It can happen with chest infections and when you have as bad of a cough as I do. It’s only minor bleeding. It’s fine.” As he finishes talking, another coughing fit hits him and the actions just make Dick look even more concerned than before.
Once he's done Dick is quick to hand him a bottle of water which is half full and Jason takes it without protest. As he sips the liquid Dick crosses his arms across his chest and widens his stance.
“Despite what you say, I’m going to get Alfred because I think this needs to be looked at. It’s better to be safe than sorry and Alfred deserves to know what’s going on.”
Before Jason could protest Dick is leaving the room, as he passes by Tim who moved to the side to let him through the door, he shoves the bin into his hands and storms down the corridor in the pursuit of Alfred.
Blinking at the object he's now suddenly holding Tim’s mind takes a minute to catch up with what is going on. Shaking his head Tim moves to place the bin down just inside of the door of Jason’s room. When he straightens back up he spots Jason watching him with a raised eyebrow.
“Got anything to add?”
His brother sounds tired and grumpy, like he’s just done with everything. Tim honestly feels almost sorry for him being on the receiving end of Dick’s care, it’s not that the oldest if awful at looking after them but sometimes he can be a bit much. Tim wouldn’t change that about him however.
Putting his hands up in surrender Tim shakes his head. “Nope. Nothing from me. I’m just gonna… go and not be here anymore…”
Nodding once Tim turns around and leaves Jason’s room. His brother can continue being sick while Tim is in the safety of his own room. Dick and Alfred can handle Jason, Tim will be standing by at a distance until he’s better.

DC x DP Prompt *30*
If anyone would ask Bruce how he could have known, he would tell them that it is obvious. Phantom - the new part-time member of the Young Justice - who seemed to be forever young and their new engineer Danny Fenton who is in his early twenties have perfectly fitting schedules. When Fenton is working in the Watchtower, Phantom will be unavailable for the Young Justice and vice versa. Also, the pranks started after both of these figures appeared. Of course one could argue that they could just be related or somehow knew each other otherwise, but the pranks that were pulled on all of the mentors of the Young Justice were only possible with Phantom Powers. And because of the new Ghost Shield the young hero wouldn't be able to just fly into the Watchtower and had to use the Zeta-Tube, what would mean that they should be able to look at the logs. But Phantom never entered the Watchtower while the pranks were under way. And as soon as his team really needed him, Fenton would make an excuse to leave work early.
What he wouldn't tell anyone, is that he saw how Fenton had transformed himself into Phantom, shortly before the Flash got up to run for a snack, just to fall down because his ankles had been cuffed together.
And maybe he helped him from time to time, with a well timed question to distract his fellow heros. Because the motive became clear really fast. Everytime someone got pranked, that someone had done something to ignite the wrath of the younger heros.
All of that also meant two things.
First of all, as soon as Danny was at work, Batman would be extra aware of his surroundings. The pranks never worked on him, which meant he had to dodge more attempts for the rest of the day.
And secondly: He should talk to Tim, after he found out how he had put his foot in his mouth this time, since he just saw his spoon move in his coffee mug without anyone's involvement. He just let his (probably salty) coffee go cold, brooding. Maybe he should go home early today and spend some quality time with his son...

Creator (and half of an existential crisis)
After watching Barbie, Danny ended up with a question, if Barbie was an idea that lived in his own world created through imagination, was it possible that he was also an idea imagined by someone else?
At first the idea seemed absurd, and he even laughed at the comparison, would he be in a comic book? A toy? Or maybe his life was a cartoon; each option sounded illogical, but there was always a part of his brain that told him, is it possible?
So he did the same thing he does with all his existential doubts: complain to Clockwork. And Clockwork as usual was no help at all, he answered him in the most cryptic way possible.
"We are all someone's idea, even if it is not the reason for our existence."
Danny took that as a yes, and after giving Frostbite an excuse (although it felt wrong to lie to the Yeti), he lent the Infi-map and asked him to meet the first one who "imagined Phantom."
And he ended up in Tim Drake's room, with a British butler looking at him with a raised eyebrow and a guy who seemed to have very little sleep in his system.

Or, alternate funny version to the previous: any combination of Uchiha watching Tobirama fight and discussing their observations (gossiping/oogling shamelessly), after peace exists and they SHOULD technically probably help him, but... Tobirama can clearly handle it, no need to get in his way
I once read that a drabble is 200 words or less. I will never beat those allegations.
The ability to share memories with the sharingan really isn't meant to be used this way, but that's never actually stopped anyone.
"I swear to you," Says Madara with a snicker, "He slapped himself in the face with a water whip. Acted like it never happened, but I saw it."
The scene is a bit more endearing than that, when Madara shows it. Tobirama is sparring with his students and one of them can't quite dodge in time. That jutsu can break skin and cut through muscle if it hits right, but rather than hurt one of his students that badly, Tobirama jerks it back. He breaking the whip's momentum but loses a good portion of control and,  indeed, slaps himself in the fact with it. He looks rather akin to a wet cat.
Madara and Izuna both break out into another fit of laughter, but Hikaku just shakes his head fondly.
"I've seen him do that on purpose, actually." He says after the laughter has died down a bit. It's not exactly the same -- the memory he calls up had been recorded on accident. It had been in those early days of peace, when seeing Tobirama move water about had made him call up the sharingan on instinct, back when they'd be so concerned that he'd break peace that he wasn't allowed to go off on missions alone.
I'd been rather rote mission -- dealing with bandits who had thought they could take advanced of the disorganization of a new village. It had had been hot, the summer temperatures soaring high and uncomfortable, and they'd both been sweat soaked and sticky by the end of it.
"Excuse me" Tobirama had said the moment he'd cause sight of a source of water. He'd let himself jump in ankle deep instead of standing on top, raised an arm, and proceeded to dump an honestly excessive amount of water over himself. Of course, his mastery over water let him pull water out of his clothes until he was just the right amount of damp without any effort-- Hikaku had been and still is jealous over it -- and even back then, eyes lingered on where wet clothes stuck to well-defined muscle.
Thankfully no one comments. The sharingan's tendency to show the exactly what was seen means they've all shared unintentionally embarrassing moments. Plus, Hikaku knows he's not the only one who's done that exact thing.
"Oh, sensei will do that for us, if we ask!" Chimes in Kagami, thankfully too young and oblivious to understand why his cousins are giving Hikaku the side eye. He launches into a memory of his team begging and pleading to be allowed to train on the water on another hot day. His sensei had crossed his arms, unimpressed, and said he knew that the lot of them had all mastered water walking already…
…But that if the lot of them managed to prove they could do their D-rank mission without complaining, he would think of a way to cool them all off. In Kagami's young memory, the cool mist Tobirama had raised from the pond of the garden they'd been weeding had been the most refreshing thing he'd ever felt.
"…He's too soft on you." Madara says, without any real heat.
"He's something." Izuna responds dryly. "Sometimes I forget, none of you have ever seen what it's like when he really wants to get something done."
Without warning, Izuna calls up the memory of a fight. No… A spar, but a bloodthirsty one. Probably one of the first ones they'd had since they were allowed to again, after peace was called. A mixture of pent up frustration and the fact that they were no longer supposed to kill each other had both of them showing off -- Izuna was prone to do it, regardless, but this was the first time he'd seen Tobirama opt for techniques that were more flashy than practical. A water dragon with mutliple heads split apart into multiple, chasing Izuna through the trees, each one eating one of the multi-fireballs Izuna hurls out to counter them.
Tobirama did not hesitate, leaping out from the steam and twisting his fingers. The droplets of water in the air shimmered and twisted until everything was an indistinct haze.
Not that it stops a sharingan. But something about the scene -- the way the light hit the mist, haloing Tobirama with a sort of rainbow -- or maybe the way he's smirking -- makes Izuna pause.
Oh, he thinks.
Oh, thinks everyone else.

when it's written that way because it's a patented chuck dixon -ism but it unintentionally creates a really interesting potential narrative for the character-
#still thinking of steph and class and knowing that dixon made her lower middle class on account of he's a classist#but how placing her in that nebulous position of between the have and the have nots#where they're too poor for comfort or stability and too rich for benefits#lends a lot to steph's anger at her situation#her desire to fit it and move up and separate herself from her origins#her showcase '95 story where she has a veneration of what she feels must be the comfort of the true middle class#and her veneration of her coach who she insists can't be anything like her mom#her anger and shame at her mom coming to her gymnastics meet because she doesn't like seeing that part of her life#interact with the better life she's trying to carve for herself#her activities as spoiler being so linked to her desire to throw away the legacy her father left her#that for everyone to say she's not good enough or shouldn't do it is for them to say#you are already where you belong and that thought terrifies her#a steph who grew up hearing sarcastic remarks about those welfare recipients who can afford nicer food than them#while her mom works and gets no help and and struggles for it#a steph who internalizes that no one is going to help her and if she wants it she has to work for and take it#which leads to some bitterness when she sees everyone else such as tim and cass receive the help and support she's always denied#but also only motivates her to keep going harder. if no one will help you you have to help yourself.#what ugly biases might she potentially have as a result of this upbringing#it's like i hate it it's such a conservative story of bootstraps#but i love it because gives such potentially interesting things to play with in steph's arc

Randomized Robins AU - Ages + Worst Trait Exercise:
Steph (25):
Says her worst trait is her murderous rages (she is exaggerating for dramatic/comedic effect, she’s killed 3 people tops and for very good reason)
Thinks her worst trait is her spitefulness (one of the few traits she definitely got from her father + one that prevents her from fixing her relationships and living her best possible life. She’ll refuse to interact with someone she dearly loves after an argument (happens significantly less after Tim’s death) or will say things she knows are hurtful just for the sake of having the last word. This trait will worsen in some ways as the list of people who have wronged her and those she loves grows, but will also ease up as she matures and realizes the harm it’s doing to her relationships with those she loves most.)
Her worst trait really is her spitefulness
Cass (26)
Says her worst trait is her self-righteousness (she believes that her goals are righteous and, as a result, she is righteous. Cass becomes very defensive whenever someone questions the mission and often does not second-guess herself. This is a trait she only develops later in life as she grows closer to Bruce/learns to understand herself more/starts to love herself more. But she knows she isn’t perfect and when somebody she trusts criticizes something she is doing she is willing to listen. She just usually isn’t the one to START the introspection.)
Thinks her worst trait is her self-righteousness.
Her worst trait actually is her obsessiveness (she gets it from Bruce and, while not as bad as him, she will easily become preoccupied with her night-life and the mission if someone isn’t there to pull her back. She will do this to the point of self-destruction and it hurts her relationships with the people she loves, especially Steph.)
Tim (24)
Says his worst trait is his spitefulness (he actively rejects the idea of mending his relationships with the older members of the family and this causes him to also lack good relationships with the younger ones)
Thinks his worst trait is his obsessiveness (similar to Cass, if he gets fixated on a task or idea he will neglect everything else in his life in order to dedicate more time to it. Unlike Cass, he will almost never be dragged away from it unless Pierrot snatches control of the body and forces them to take care of themself.)
His worst trait actually is how manipulative he is (the KING of guilt-tripping and using people’s emotions against them. He’ll do whatever he needs to do to get what he wants, he’s not above crocodile tears. And he will do it to whoever he needs (or wants) to with little care for how his actions impact others.)
Pierrot (Insists: “Age doesn’t apply to me! And even if it did, I'd probably be the oldest. Or the youngest! I’d never be a middle child, though.” Mental assessments by the Bats have put him around 21, with a margin of error of 3 years. Pierrot has called this “blatant character assassination by my eternal rival!”)
Says his worst trait is that he is an irredeemable psychopath without any regard for the wellbeing of others (this is a lie and everyone who's important to him understands this).
Thinks his worst trait is his parasitic nature (he literally would not exist had Tim not suffered the way he did. Plus he is a living reminder of one of the worst things that happened to many of his loved ones. He is a parasite injected into a functional person's body and contributes to his continued suffering. This is also a largely incorrect judgement of himself, caused by his actual worst trait.)
His worst trait actually is his limited sense of self (he doesn’t really know who he is outside of ‘inheritor to the legacy of the Joker (a man he despises yet also views as a father)’ and ‘chip in Tim’s brain that became sentient’. He slowly develops an identity over the course of his life and relationships with other people, but he lacks the foundations of identity that most people have. Pierrot will often almost become a caricature of himself and what others perceive him to be because it's the only person he knows how to be. This causes wild swings in how he behaves and relates to others, sometimes to the detriment of himself and others.)
Dick (17)
Says his worst trait is his clinginess (he is a very extraverted person who likes to be around others, which mixed with his fear of abandonment after his parents died means that if he goes a few days without seeing/talking to a friend he will get very anxious.)
Thinks his worst trait is his anger issues (he gets ticked off very easily and will explode on people. He’s kind at his core and is usually very nice, but he has a temper that can escalate significantly. Spoiler (and later Twist) help him channel this anger into something positive.)
His worst trait actually is his anger issues.
Barbara (18)
Says her worst trait is her disability (internalized ableism, she thinks of herself as less valuable than the other Bats because she cannot be out there in the capes like they can. She will grow out of this as she matures and as she learns how invaluable her support for the team is.)
Thinks her worst trait is her disability
Her worst trait actually is her overly-independent nature (In an attempt to overcompensate for everything she can no longer do, she has resolved to do literally everything that she possibly can without any help from others. This results in many instances where she either takes on too much and winds up not being able to fully realize any of her tasks or where she makes her life and the lives of others significantly harder by refusing help when offered/not asking for it when she needs it.)
Damian (16)
Says his worst trait is his perfectionism (he is overly critical of both himself and others, taking any flaw or problem and amplifying it to an absurd degree. This is due in part to his life with the LoA (where even a brief misstep could lead to death), in part to how others treated him initially as Spoiler (any flaw was fixated on and used as a reason to either mistrust him or portray him as unworthy of the mantle), and in part due to the fact that he is Bruce’s son (the only person with worse perfectionism problems than Damian). Gradually, Damian has improved in this regard but it’s still a massive barrier to both his own happiness and his relationships with others.)
Thinks his worst trait is his perfectionism
His worst trait actually is his perfectionism
Duke (16)
Says his worst trait is his definitely-real secret evil side (says this as a ‘my dad is a villain so who knows??’ joke)
Thinks his worst trait is his impulsivity in his words (Sometimes he will crack a joke or say a remark without thinking it through, leading to a LOT of hurt feelings and drama. He’ll say something without thinking it through and wind up seeming insensitive. This isn’t done because of malice, rather because Duke is someone who’s quick to act and speak. But while the mantle of Insight and his awakening powers have helped him with his actions, they do not always help with his loose tongue. As such, Duke gains an unfair reputation in the media as an instigator and will accidentally cause family drama through what he says.)
His worst trait actually is his impulsivity in his words
Jason (14)
Says his worst trait is his bad manners (he grew up on the streets and has no idea how rich-people society works, which he’s pretty insecure about considering he’s now the youngest kid of Bruce freaking Wayne).
Thinks his worst trait is his reactiveness (Jason never got the privilege of planning ahead for various events in his life, so he instead needed to rely on being swift and harsh in how he could react to situations. It’s saved his life on multiple occasions and helps significantly in his role as Spoiler, but it can also lead to extreme overreactions (accidentally causing kidnapping scare after Jason ran away following a fight with Dick) and a struggle to plan things out ahead of time. As he grows more secure in his place in the family and in life, this trait will lessen but never fully dissipate.)
His worst trait actually is his reactiveness
#stephanie brown#cassandra cain#tim drake#dick grayson#barbara gordon#damian wayne#duke thomas#jason todd#batfamily#randomizedrobinsau#I'm debating whether I should tag this with the Joker Junior tag and those related to it for Pierrot#because like...it's not quite that. but it's also very close to that and is the direct result of that.#but Pierrot would fucking HATE to be tagged as that and sees it as an insult to his identity...which he already has problems with#so I don't think I'm gonna#anyways lmao I am totally projecting my younger self onto Barbara. How could I not? She's literally the reason I view my disability#the way that I do and she actively improved my mental health just by existing and saying some of the shit she did when I was in the#stages of accepting my own disability. So yeah I am projecting a lot onto her because I love her and see myself in her.#I'm mostly basing these characterizations on my favorite versions of them (ie Red Robin 2009 Tim and Birds of Prey Barbara).#so I'm taking the traits I like/think fit in this AU and discarding what I think either is bad or doesn't fit or if I just don't like it.#Damian's 'murder gremlin who is a meanie on purpose because he is a meanie' is entirely unappealing to me and also does not fit this AU#I prefer him when he's portrayed as a sympathetic kid (who is still an asshole) and not a demon child. So that's what I'm using.#same with Talia's 'abusive mother who is totally on-board with all of her father's bullshit and will kill someone for no reason' version#I have read enough comics to know what I like/what is most important and what I don't like/what is#BLATANT CHARACTER ASSASSINATION GRANT MORRISON YOU FUCK YOU SET TALIA BACK SO FUCKING FAR#I also decided to outline their WORST traits because I already know what I like about these characters/their best traits.#most people do. But what was a greater challenge was finding what would make their lives and those of others worse.#what would I hate about this person if I knew them IRL? What would I first suggest they get therapy for? What hurts them and why?#I found these questions really interesting in the context of this AU where some people are forced into completely different roles#the says/thinks/is was inspired by trying to answer that question for myself. I say my worst trait is my impulsiveness but when#I asked others in my life they answered 'oh so you said your weird thing where you don't ask for help right?'

I will now be personally headcanoning that Bruce pulled Tim aside one day to ask his opinion on if Tim would ever consider changing or adding Alfred to his middle name(s). I've always interpreted Jack Drake as having been abusive towards Tim, due to some of the comics where he's been violent and such (Like the time he destroyed some of Tim's belongings and such when he was angry at him, or the straight up neglect when Jack and Janet went to explore the world regularly and leave Tim behind, forgot his birthday, etc), and so I feel like sometimes Tim would feel icky about keeping his middle name as 'Jackson' after his biological father (I'm surprised he ever kept 'Drake' and didn't just fully move to 'Wayne', but alas). I feel like Bruce would also be aware that Tim sometimes feels left out of the family, especially due to the early years of him and Damian's dynamic and constantly being told he was never Bruce's 'real son'. It doesn't take a lot of common sense to realise those kind of words will linger, even after the brothers have improved their relationship. I had originally thought to consider this with Damian, but he's already named after Thomas, so I feel as though Bruce would choose Tim so that he gets to both honour his second father, and let Tim know that he will always be Bruce's son and a part of the family, regardless of DNA. Tim accepts, and so his middle name becomes Alfred, instead of Jackson.
Alfred doesn't find out until he's going over some family legal documents and sees it. He cries when he does.
#I feel as though Bruce would have also considered Jason especially when Jason adores Alfred#And he knows Jason can also feel estranged from the family for obvious reasons#So I feel he would've discussed it with him too as well as Dick to let them know that he isn't trying to leave either of them out#Or make them feel like they're not his sons. But he thinks it would really help Tim's ongoing doubts whilst ensuring he wasn't named#After his abuser (Again I'm ignoring the Drake thing)#And I think Jason and Dick would be understand of it. Dick is named after his biological dad who he loves so he's all good. And Jason is#Aware that Bruce loves him after some therapy and family counselling sessions that Bruce took them to to improve their relationship#Which worked. So Jason knows Bruce is always going to cherish him as his son despite their history. And also both#Brothers are very aware of Tim's feelings (Jason and Tim have bonded over it. He knows how bad Tim can get mentally when he thinks about it#too much) so Jason is completely fine letting his baby brother have the name. Makes up for those bad early days between them a little#Which Jason does still feel guilty about and has talked over with Tim during some of their deep talks where he apologised for it.#Either way I feel like it's the classic Big BrotherTM who also wants his Baby BrotherTM to be okay even if he doesn't admit it#I'm also headcanoning that Cass who didn't have a middle name was approached by Bruce who asked if she liked Martha as a contender#She definitely did#Anyway- I won't tag everyone because I've used half the tag limit already so just the ones in the post#Tim Drake#Bruce Wayne#Alfred Pennyworth#Robin#Red Robin#Batman#Agent A#Tim Drake Wayne#Tim Wayne#Batfamily#Abuse mention tw#Headcanon

got inspired by a fic i read the other day, but didn't quite hit the right spots for me so. time to write out a new wip idea
The concept of that fic really grabbed me - Jason and Tim having a bodyswap the same day Jason wakes up in his coffin, at a point after Tim had already visited Bruce and Alfred with his insistence that Batman needed a Robin - but for what I was thinking, by the time Jason convinces Bruce and Alfred of who he is, Tim's already started to dig himself out of the coffin. And when the three of them show up at the cemetery, the grave's empty.
Tim would be catatonic and go through much of the same stuff canon Jason went through before being found and dunked in the Pit. He'd end up enduring the whole League of Assassins shtick that canon Jason went through while at the same time Jason is dealing with Tim's regular person life. Both of them struggled a bit trying to imitate the other, but they managed- Tim with not much issue considering no one in the LoA was close to Jason, and Jason trying to manage Janet Drake's clearly growing concern every time he slips up.
Like, imagine Tim, desperately trying to imitate what he knows of Jason from watching Robin on the streets and seeing Jay in a few galas here and there. And one day, Talia tries to tell him he'd been quickly replaced to get him to finally listen and Kill Somebody/accept he was staying with the League until they deemed him fit to leave.
And Tim looks at a picture of himself, hanging around the front yard of Wayne Manor with Bruce, Alfred, and Dick. Another picture showing himself in an ill-fitting Robin uniform on a rooftop and seemingly getting lectured by Batman, who looms in front of him.
And he says "I'm not buyin' it."
Somehow convinces Talia that he's not convinced that the Tim in the photo (who is probably Jason and thank god, Tim was really worried about what happened to Jason's mind- or rather, his own body; he didn't actually consider Jason coming back to life until now) and she arranges a short trip for him to Gotham to see for himself.
Tim really struggles the next two days to keep up the Jason act, but he's pretty sure Talia and the others were just chalking it up to nerves at seeing his family again and the "newest addition".
When he finally gets to Gotham, he doesn't bother being stealthy. He doesn't have the skills- no matter how much Ra's and Talia's goons have been trying to beat it into him- and even if he did, he doubted he'd be able to sneak away from his own teachers that were stalking him from the shadows.
So he does his best to be casual. Walks straight towards Wayne Manor, and when he can actually start to hear his assassin stalkers the tiniest bit as he approaches the gate- a sign they're getting really restless- he decides now or never and bolts the rest of the way.
He thinks, if he had come sooner to Gotham, he would've tried fitting through the gaps in the bars- as if he was still 13 and small enough to fit- but as it is, Tim's spent 6 months in this body and he's not going to make that mistake.
Instead he slams a hand on the buzzer and says as fast as he can, "it's Tim! Tim Drake! There's assassins, open the gate!"
He has a heartstopping moment when nothing happens- when there's no answer and the ninjas are getting closer and closer and- And then it opens and Tim doesn't stop with his relief, he runs.
The door is opened not by Mr. Pennyworth, but by Bruce himself, a belt clipped around his waist, but entirely in sleepwear. He has something in his other hand and as he yells, "duck!" Tim can only think it's some kind of bomb and dives for the ground.
He was sort of right. It was a smoke bomb. He heard and smelled it hissing away behind him, and saw the cloud of smoke in his peripheral vision.
Bruce wasted no time running past him and barking, "Follow Alfred to the cave!" Tim took a moment to just breathe, feeling much more safe with Batman fighting to protect him. When Bruce looked back at him through a spot in the smoke, he yelled, "Go!"
Tim scrambled to obey, trying to run and stand and awkwardly doing both to get in the home. Mr. Pennyworth was just inside the foyer, out of sight of the windows, now that Tim noticed, and holding a shotgun.
He was also wearing a fluffy blue bathrobe and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.
Tim blinked. "Uhhh,"
"Come along, Master Tim. We must be quick."
He didn't protest and followed him down to the Cave, where Jason in Tim's body sat waiting at the Batcomputer.
Man, I'm not completely sure on the timing, but imagine Tim finally getting back into his body and it's- he's taller than he used to be, bulkier too. And there are reflexes and muscle memory stuff he doesn't remember at all, but now just has.
He- he was Robin. Or, his body at least, and he felt like it. But he never was Robin. Not really. He never got a proper outing, never even received Bruce's official approval for it.
It was strange. And not totally a good strange.
He thought about the body he had. He didn't have a lot of love for it- puberty would do that to anyone- but it was his. And that saying about not knowing what you have until you lose it? Yeah.
Tim felt like crying.
#dc#bodyswap#tim drake#nemotime#didnt really focus on the jason bits here but if i ever actually write this- jay would probably get more of a comedy/humour role?#like yeah they gotta find tim and tim's parents are genuinely concerned and all#but much of it would be just funny shenanigans of Jason being saddled with two sets(?) of worried parents#and just when he manages to get things sort of under control. Dick shows up#i havent yet decided if he just becomes Very Annoying Older Sibling who has no idea how to process his emotions currently#and tries to fall back on tried and true tactics#OR if he is in Complete Denial and thinking this was just an elaborate ruse by Tim & lists the exact ways Tim would know how to imitate Jay#(he's right and each accusation/point would probably be juxtaposed with a brief switch in scenes to whatever Tim is currently up to#which also happens to prove Dick's point exactly even though no one can except the audience can see that)#Jay would knock sense into Dick eventually but the point is. I could make his life humourous suffering :3#Either way Dick would show up some time after Bruce remembers to call him & he would Not leave the manor until Tim is back safe and sound#(not for Jason obviously. pfft. Jason's just fine. Dick doesn't need to stay at the manor to make sure of it. He's just staying to find Tim#okay. realistically. this would just be a hella lot of angst. However! Having that shift from Angst with Tim to Laughing at Jason would be.#so fun.#tho i'd probably still sprinkle in some Angst with Jason bc i cant help myself lol

I don't want to yuck anyone's yum, but I don't understand the fuss over cameos. The voice actors just are not the same without the character writers. They rely heavily on signature catchphrases, often to the point of overuse.
Where are the writing commissions from the minds behind the lines the fandom loves? The actors are charging $100 a pop for a few minutes of slightly in character rambling, and the writers are getting what? One mention for every hundred the actor gets?
I could get behind it if it were still a collaboration, but the solo act only brings half the character to the table.

thinking (rambling) abt tim and how he's never really seen himself as a sidekick . . .
idk exactly how i wanna structure this, and i already wanna do one of those comic weave things so i have an excuse to throw a ton of panels on the dash, but i just... from the very beginning, he's seen robin as an equal partnership, and i just think that's really interesting. he went into it knowing 1) that there was a 50% chance he ends up dead, but more importantly 2) that batman just doesn't WORK without robin. he lets the cops and the rogues and pretty much any civilian call him a sidekick or a baby and hardly corrects them, but he's so confident in the fact that he's a Partner. he doesn't see himself as less than or below batman, and while he does have a need for validation, almost all of it (at least at the start bc i'm re-reading and only on like #17, he's still a lil bird) comes from wanting to live up to the mantle and the legacy and the weight that the costume has on it, ESPECIALLY after jason's death. he puts such a heavy importance on symbolism and he just wants to do it right, to be the kind of robin that his younger self obsessed over before he got thrust into it.
also, a lot of the 93 robin run is him solving things on his own! i mean, yeah, it's a Tim Run:tm: but .. hear me out. half the time, they write bruce off as too busy with another mission, or busy w wayne stuff, or hurt, or whatever the hell happened w that jean paul dude (that's a whole other side ramble abt symbolism, tim said fuck ur 'batman' it's just robin now <3) , and i get that a lot of the time it's because he's got his own run. there's a point where jack puts him back in private school for a while, forcing him to go be robin over there, but you get the idea.. he's alone (without bruce, he's not lacking a support system he just isn't constantly connected to batman) a LOT. and i think that isolation along with everything else just feeds into the fact that he doesn't see himself as a sidekick, idk how to end this thank you for coming to my ted talk <3

The appointed hot one by Basira. Also the one with the most detailed notes for some reason.

I know I shouldn’t click on articles like this since it’s almost always a mistake and this time was too.
Tumblr media
Like apparently a backstory can only be “ truly compelling or integral to a character’s present characterization” if said backstory brutalizes said character cause that’s what I’m getting out of this.

/Taking from Twisted Wonderland and thinking about an Egg hatching from love.
A (dragon?) egg is found while deciding what to do/how to take care of it Chimera lad promptly takes the egg and goes off, creating something of a makeshift nest beneath Kain's bed.
Surprising everyone that they aren't trying to eat the thing- Animal parental nurturing instinct has just over taken and they've decided it's there's now and will let no one near (say maybe Chicken)
Whether already knowing or through doing research they (as in just anyone involved with this) discover not only what the egg is but the specifics to help it hatch. Which raises the new problem of possibly someone/multiple people not believing that under Tim's care it could possibly hatch. Look they like the Chimera but are they even capable of love? At least in that kind of way that's needed to hatch it.
Only for much to everyone's surprise it does end up hatching- whether the he realizes it or not Tim's learned and knows how to love so strongly that it brought new life to the world.
