Cloud Computing in Banking Industry: Benefits, Use Cases and More
Since the advent of cloud computing, several banking-related firms have gradually migrated to the cloud. Banks are using cloud services more and more as data production and consumption grow exponentially. They can centralise data storage, offer real-time analytics, and fulfil the need for speed and capacity.
This blog is for you if you are also thinking about using cloud services but are unsure how the various deployment & operating models fit into your digitalization strategy.
Cloud computing is required in the banking sector
Cloud services are on-demand offerings that give users online access to shared resources, programmes, or storage. Instead of using local systems, it lets banking institutions to store and analyse data on distant servers. Although the banking sector has been sluggish to adopt cloud technology because of worries about letting go of their old on-premises applications, regulatory compliance, and data protection issues, this attitude is quickly changing. More and more financial institutions today are realising how technology can both help them achieve their business goals and meet the demands of their clients.
The use of the cloud also involves a new form of IT ownership; it's not just about technology. With this strategy, banks may develop more quickly, become more agile, and gain access to previously unattainable economies.
In our opinion, an accurate cloud model should:
provide a framework for the continuous and secure distribution of material, apps, and services
Make banks autonomous so they can manage new services without having to manually install software or upgrade their infrastructure.
Use consumption-based pricing to increase your flexibility and transparency, such as with a pay-as-you-go system.
enabling the scaling up or down of computer resources in accordance with demand
Make data available to any business process or service that may need to consume it by separating it from applications.
To learn more about the primary motivators and application scenarios for cloud adoption in the financial services industry, you might also want to read this interesting piece.
Here are some details on how banks are utilising the cloud:
Bank of America has saved $2 billion yearly by constructing its cloud (on annual infrastructure savings). It assisted in reducing the company's servers from 200,000 to 70,000 and its data centres from 60 to 23.
As part of its focus on digital transformation, Wells Fargo is using MS Azure and has shifted critical business tasks, such as data centres, to the cloud.
The internal operations of Goldman Sachs have been transformed by the usage of Amazon Web Services (AWS) products, which range from automated digital forensics to digital supply chain and procurement.
Benefits of cloud computing in the banking Industry
In the banking industry, cloud computing has emerged as a driving force behind digital transformation, preparing institutions for the future. Hence, in order to benefit from cloud computing's reliable deployment and delivery strategy, any bank must be aware of its primary advantages.
Higher processing speeds are available thanks to cloud systems' ability to quickly and easily handle enormous amounts of data. It enables banks to accelerate the processing of transactions and lessen latency issues.
Centralized Data Repository: Cloud platforms make it possible to share data easily and securely while integrating various operational systems and corporate data. In order to facilitate integrated decision-making and swiftly address consumer issues, it creates centralised and connected data.
Data Security: In addition to having secure server configuration, cloud banking platforms are certified to adhere to national, regional, and worldwide regulations set forth by financial services regulators. To guarantee secure data transfers and prevent unwanted access, these regulations regulate information security management and risk management.
Disaster Recovery: Moving to the cloud has many advantages, but its effective disaster recovery with built-in redundancies is by far the most important. The cloud enables banks to streamline possibilities, satisfy client expectations, and operate at the speed of business by regaining access to actionable data in case of disruptive events or natural disasters. The financial world is moving much more quickly these days.
Access to a Robust API Ecosystem and Data Management Capabilities: With open banking, banks can adapt to the changing needs of their clients thanks to advanced analytics and the cloud API ecosystem. Banks and other financial institutions can enhance their cash and liquidity management and reconciliation effectiveness.
Better Customer Experience: Banks can provide access to financial services whenever and wherever they choose thanks to the cloud, which improves the client experience.
Reduced Costs: From a management and maintenance perspective, moving apps and data to the cloud gives the bank significant cost advantages. Furthermore, the pay-as-you-go pricing structure of public clouds makes it possible for financial institutions to make effective use of cloud services.
Adhering to Regulatory Compliance: Using cloud platforms, banks can manage and satisfy regulatory compliance obligations in accordance with local financial industry laws. It would include abiding by international laws and data protection standards.
Efficiency Gains: Cloud computing in banking enables financial services companies to streamline processes and increase efficiency. By linking customers and sellers on a single platform, payment processes can be made even simpler. This makes data tracking and transaction speed improvements.
Business continuity: Increased data protection, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery for financial enterprises are all possible with cloud computing in financial services, which can help banks and financial services companies. It offers a high level of redundancy and backup at a price that is significantly less than that of conventional managed systems.
Agility and Transformation: With the help of adaptable cloud-based operating models, financial firms can experience quicker development cycles for new products. The associated technology enables a quicker and more effective response to the requirements of contemporary banking clients. It enables companies to outsource non-critical activities like upkeep, software patches, and other computer-related problems. This aids financial companies in concentrating more on business expansion.
Cloud Computing Difficulties in the Banking Sector
Many financial firms are still cautious to use cloud computing technology despite its many advantages. Here are some of the barriers to bank cloud adoption and potential solutions:
Security
Data security is the key worry for banks considering cloud services. Banks lack visibility into authentication problems, credentials are compromised, and there is a danger of data breaches when sensitive banking data is held and processed by a third-party source.
Thankfully, well-known cloud service providers have improved their security capabilities. Be sure the cloud service provider you select has a strong identity management system and solid access control procedures in place. Database security and the application of data privacy protocols are also ensured by the cloud.
Performance
The performance of the business depends on the cloud platform after corporate data and apps are migrated there.
So, banks should search for cloud service providers with cutting-edge technologies before investing in cloud technology. The vendor's systems have an impact on how well BI tools and other cloud-based solutions perform. Due of this, it is crucial to confirm that the supplier has mechanisms in place to address issues as they arise.
Highly available
Systems used by banks must always be functional. In order to prevent frequent failures and unwelcome downtime, banks that rely on third-party services and cloud systems must be dependable and strong.
Banks can use tools provided by third parties to evaluate service effectiveness and have a solid plan in place to keep an eye on SLAs, consumption, performance, robustness, and the business' dependency on cloud services.
Compliance
Customer banking information must be kept domestically restricted, according to several banking regulators. This sensitive information shouldn't be mixed in with other data stored on shared databases.
Summary
To solve compliance and security issues, banks must choose the best service provider, understand where their data will be stored in the cloud, and make decisions on the deployment and operating models to be used. Every forward-thinking bank is utilising the cloud to dominate its specialised market, widen its customer base, and enhance the value chain that its rivals are focusing on. The agility and scalability required to outpace competitors have already been attained by those taking immediate action to reorient their digital transformation strategy at scale on the cloud. The next ten years will see you tackling newer company frontiers by utilising the potential of cloud services.

Cloud adoption & data pipeline automation in healthcare
Traditionally, healthcare advancements have progressed slowly due to siloed research and delayed results. However, with cloud application modernization, all that is changing for good. A unique collaboration between life sciences organizations and digital solution providers is offering an unprecedented level of insight into managing conditions and achieving optimal patient outcomes. Cloud modernization is expanding healthcare organizations’ ability to use data pipeline automation to effectively diagnose patients.
A prime example of cloud adoption is a nonprofit research organization dedicated to biomedical research and technology. The organization has been instrumental in facilitating advances in brain injury and disease research through its launch of the first cloud-based and interactive platform that supports information and idea exchange to further progress in neuroscience research. It uses big data to promote computational innovation discovery in brain diseases.

hey, random question! what platform/method do you use to keep your robust digital media when ripping CDs? i havent done it since i was a kid with itunes (when itunes let you upload your own stuff....) and wanted to start again
Platform...they are files?
Like, mp3s; I keep them in my hard drive and thumb drives and so forth. My 'music' folder has subfolders, mostly by artist, which have subfolders per album. I just. Have the files. In my computer. Very basic method.
I organize and play them through VLC mostly. Or, on devices that still have it, I have kept using Windows Media Player, because I'm comfortable with the UI and why not, but they're actively phasing it out so I can't recommend adopting it lmao. And ofc if you're in the apple ecosystem it's not remotely an option.
I don't know that much about macintosh tbh but afaik they do let you have a file directory where you put your files that you own, which is definitely what I consider to be the most sensible baseline, if you have a device with enough memory. And memory has gotten pretty cheap.
I don't know of any cloud client service that's actively catered to letting you upload stuff you own and then stream those files on any device you please without having to jump through extra hoops, and suspect it might not be a thing at this point because there is no profit in that and it's not free to provide. They really want you to have to pay money to access content that you don't own. Sorry.
I bet you could figure out a way to keep a reasonably large music library in the amount of free storage google gives you with an account, and then play from there, but I don't think it would be very seamless. Maybe even less so on iphone.
But if your phone of whatever type has or can be modified to have sufficient storage space, you really can just. Keep your music in it. And then play it. VLC is open source and very good, and they have it for apple; I definitely recommend it.
But you don't like, keep files in it, it's just a player and sorter. So it doesn't feel like it answers the question you asked exactly, sorry.

hi! :3 I’ve been thinking about the angels (and demons) a lot recently.
I’m unsure how much influence earth and human actions/development would have on hell or the demons quite yet, but from a fashion standpoint, do you think the demons (particularly lucifer!! his wardrobe comes across as very curated and stylish, can’t forget the nipple piercings lol) would be influenced by the humans’ evolving fashion over the centuries?
Same could be said about technology — do you think any of the demons would care to have a tv, phone, computer, etc. or would it be just another human invention that isn’t very interesting? for some reason, i can picture baal with a modern phone very vividly lmfao
I do think so! I think demons would have strong opinions on human fashion regardless of how close they live to them, and I do think they'd be influenced by it. It'd take a long time to get them to adopt pants after billions of year in tunics though sksks. I imagine pants still aren't super popular in their hell. They also probably find modern fashion brands very fun; I can see Lucifer in a Gucci cape and Louis Vuitton sunglasses.
I imagine most technology doesn't work where the demons are. They'd find trains very helpful though, and I think they'd love planes (it makes them remember what the air above the clouds looks like; now I'm thinking about demon involvement in the invention of planes....)
I have this idea in my head that I may explore in the third book about demons immediately being fascinated with technology, especially as something to use against God — but their thoughts would start to change once the development gets too quick and feels aimless, and I think they'd have a discourse among themselves about, say, atomic bombs.
For the less serious part of this question though, I do think they'd own phones / tablets / laptops, but they mostly use them when they're on Earth's surface where the wifi is. I can imagine Rosier playing candy crush with an iPad. Baal spamming Lucifer with heart emojis. Asmodeus tweeting recycled discourse on Twitter just to make people mad. I think a lot of demons have social media profiles, but Lucifer asks them to hide their demon side ofc.
thank u for the ask! :)

hihiii maybe a craig tucker X fem!reader who is a lot like princess bubblegum from adventure time?? studious, feminine, leader, and REALLY smart?? ty ciao!! 🫶
Ofc!! I can totally see him with someone like that honestly! :D
Word count: 897
South Park - Partner Project (Craig)
You frowned the minute you walked into the classroom. In huge letters on the whiteboard, the teacher had written: PARTNER PROJECT TODAY!
As if it were something to be excited about. You sighed, preparing yourself for the worst as you approached the teacher’s desk.
They smiled when they saw you, offering a warm greeting. “Ah, Y/n, my star pupil! I’ve put you with… let me see here…” they scrolled on their computer, apparently looking at some kind of table or document with the assigned pairs on it. “Mr. Craig Tucker. He’s sitting right over there.”
You followed the teacher’s gaze to an unassuming boy sitting at the back of the room. He blinked at his phone blankly, as if there wasn’t a thing in the world that he was interested in. You sighed again, clearly having your work cut out for you.
“Hi! I’m Y/n,” you chirped as you approached, suppressing your judgment of the boy. He looked at your extended hand for a second before slowly taking it and giving it the weakest handshake you’ve ever experienced.
“We’re partners for this project, so I’ll just sit over here, if that’s okay,” you continued, already unloading your stationery onto the desk beside him. You placed the assignment the teacher had given you on his desk, hoping he’d look at it while you settled.
He just shrugged apathetically, completely ignoring you and the assignment.
Your nose twitched distastefully. Yet you still tried to be polite when you said: “Right then. Let’s get started!”
You meant it as a hint; what you had really wanted to say was put your phone away and work with me here, but you knew that would’ve been counterproductive, so you bit your tongue and went with the honey rather than the mace.
Craig did put his phone away, but then he just looked at you dumbly.
“The instructions?”
“Oh. Right. Uh, step one…”
You smiled, scooting closer so you could both read the sheet. Craig paused, straightening his slouched posture as you leaned in.
You didn’t take notice, picking up where he left off in his reading. You used the tip of your pencil to point to the words as you read them, snapping up when you finished reading the first step.
“Okay, so we’re just classifying these biomolecules based on their chemical structure.”
“Uh, yeah, what you said.”
“So this one is a phospholipid—”
“A what?”
You blinked at Craig. “A phospholipid?”
He averted your gaze bashfully. “Um. What is that.”
You might’ve rolled your eyes, but you admired his humility, so instead you decided to take the opportunity to explain.
You became enlivened as you explained, gesticulating while your voice went up and down animatedly. You loved explaining things to people; oftentimes it felt more like gushing than anything else, though, and you’d lose yourself in your rambling. It was almost like you trapped yourself in a bubble that floated up to the clouds, high up where no one could reach you.
Today was no different. When you next became aware of yourself, several minutes had passed and your audience (one Craig Tucker) had adopted a new expression. It was one you hadn’t seen on him before; all his reactions you’d seen so far had been minimal, if existent at all. But now he was practically starstricken, his eyes twinkling and his cheeks flushed with excitement.
“Oops, I guess I rambled a bit. But do you get it?”
His eyes fluttered; he blinked several times before seeming to come back down to reality with you. Apparently you’d both been in that high bubble up in the clouds; you speaking, and him listening.
“Yeah, actually. So that one’s a… phos-pho-lipid too, right?” He spoke slowly but confidently, pointing to another diagram on the page.
You beamed. He actually listened! “Yes!”
The corner of his mouth quirked up. “Cool. Can you explain that one, too?”
You were more than happy to explain; not just the things he asked about (and, though you didn’t notice, he did ask a lot of questions), but things you wanted to explain anyway. And he listened intently, nodding along and putting his own input it when you prompted him. He was a quick learner. Or maybe you were just a good teacher.
By the end of class you managed to finish the assignment; other groups had finished before you, but you had spent a lot of time explaining, so you and Craig were a bit behind the others.
You were actually still explaining another concept while you both walked to the teacher’s desk to turn in your work. You paused in the threshold of the classroom, knowing you’d have to part ways now.
“But I’m rambling again, haha. See you later, Craig.”
“Yeah.”
You almost turned away, but you stopped when you heard him blurt out an urgent “Um..!”
“Can I have your number?” His cheeks reddened at your silence. “You’re just really smart. And good at explaining things. Things make more sense when… when it’s you… saying them..? Is that stupid?”
Your own cheeks suddenly felt hot, and you brought a bashful hand to cover one cheek. “Not at all! I actually really liked explaining things to you. You’re a good listener.”
And so you put your number into his phone, parting with the promise of seeing each other again soon.
The sooner the better… <3

Hi betts! Hope you're doing good! Do you have any advice on how to distance yourself from social media? I saw that you've done so with success and the older I get the more I feel a bit trapped by the internet.
social media certainly has benefits: keeping people connected, giving a voice to those who otherwise wouldn't have a platform, and it allows you to meet new people in the context of interest rather than location.
at least, these are the things social media set out to be, and over time those benefits, to me anyway, haven't been able to outweigh the drawbacks: compulsively checking apps, doomscrolling, content appearing by algorithm to attempt to cater to my interests, and just generally a lot of wasted time.
i don't necessarily believe that if you stop using social media, suddenly you'll be able to devote every minute of your day to a higher pursuit. the brain doesn't work like that. it always needs downtime. before phones, we had television. before television, we had radio. lacking glowing screens and people telling us things from far away, i think we'd all spend a lot of time looking at the things humans are built to look at: fire, water, mountains, sky. we'll listen to stories or read them or watch them.
during your mind's downtime, i don't think anything you decide to do is fundamentally better or worse than any other thing. but i do think social media is designed to manipulate our attention toward it during that downtime (and honestly, all other times) and that pisses me off. it also pisses me off that even though we impose cause-and-effect sequences to our interaction with social media, it doesn't often provide us with a narrative the way reading, watching tv, or listening to a podcast would. stories are a psychological necessity; without the mind's ability to perceive sequences of events and connect them, we wouldn't have memories. we would have no concept of time, of thinking into the past or casting our thoughts into the future. social media, in its drive to keep us scrolling, looking at posts with no narrative connection to one another, deprives us of the stories our minds seek during our downtime.
this got super long so i'm putting it under a cut. tl;dr you need to remove social media as a positive stimulus and build immediate positive stimuli into other aspects of your life. in other words, social media feels good immediately but neutral or bad over time; most other things like reading feel bad or neutral initially but good over time. so you have to find ways to make the latter feel good with the immediacy of the former.
i don't mean to be "old man shakes fist at cloud" about this. i'm a millennial. from facebook's widespread release through the beginning of the pandemic, i raced to every new social media platform. i was an early myspace adopter. my high school graduating class was the very first year people outside of college could use facebook, and so we're the first cohort to have all befriended each other before graduation and never lost touch, completely removing the appeal of a reunion. i joined twitter in 2008 but never used it, and i joined tumblr in 2012 and never stopped using it.
i remember the day i got a smartphone. i was a few years behind everyone else. it was 2010 and i'd just gotten my first office job and i was desperate to be able to look at social media, scroll through stuff or read something, when i was bored. it was an iPhone 4. and as soon as i got it out of the box, i sat and played on it for 10 straight hours.
for those of you who are too young to remember a time before smartphones, i can't emphasize enough how much they changed things. in my life, i went from waking up and eating breakfast and reading for a little bit, to waking up and eating breakfast and getting on my computer to look at facebook and read my daily webcomics, to waking up and reaching over to my nightstand and looking at my phone.
and i don't know, i just decided i didn't want that anymore. last fall i was at this artist residency with no cell service and barely any wifi. and one day the wifi went out. i had a visceral negative reaction to that, which made me step back and go, oh wow, i am way too tethered to the internet. that day, wandering around the property with nothing to do, i got this intense urge to read an old paperback novel. you know, the mass market paperbacks with the pulpy yellow paper and the misaligned typeface. and so i found a very old copy of fellowship of the ring, cracked it open, and read it all day.
the thing about getting away from social media is that it's slow. i don't think you can really go cold turkey. when i got home from the residency, i went on a long hiatus and had all these strict rules for myself about when i was allowed to look at my phone and when i wasn't, but that didn't really work for me. but i did delete all the social media apps from my phone, and on my computer i logged out of all of them and deleted my saved passwords, so if i wanted to check them, i had to go to that extra step of logging in and even typing in my password. and that doesn't seem like a lot, but when you're checking social media out of habit, muscle memory, something to attend to that might give you a brief blip of dopamine, having to type your password is just one step too far. the brief pleasure i would get from checking my notifications was less than the hassle of logging in.
and that's what it all comes down to: feeling good. in the moment, it feels good to check a social media app, to see that somebody has interacted with your content or maybe with you directly. it's that tiny subconscious exclamation point, the feeling we get when somebody politely smiles or waves at us, when a dog comes up to us wagging his tail, when a well-meaning stranger compliments your outfit. that's the social part of social media. but that's also the part that keeps us cycling through our apps out of habit and boredom.
so you have to take away that stimulus from yourself, and you have to create positive stimuli elsewhere. to take away the positive stimulus of social media, you have to stop posting content on it. content is the mind killer. when you tweet something, your impulse might be to check that someone has interacted with it. but if you step away from the great conversation of social media, nobody speaks back to you, and you develop more patience for the longer-term good feelings of reading a book.
of course, that's complicated. i guess the first step that i did a long time ago was losing interest in traffic and developing the internal validation skills that make interaction on social media a bonus, not a need. before that, though, i had a drive to be seen and listened to. i think i just grew out of that. regardless of the existence of the internet, all people throughout history have spent their lives developing their relationship with themselves, learning who they are and coming to accept it. i'm not sure there's a way to rush that inner journey along.
creating positive stimuli is a matter of adopting a kind of little-treat attitude toward things. you have to really pay attention to yourself. the day i picked up the fellowship of the ring, i remembered that paper is important to me. vitally important. i like to write on it. i like to read from it. and it's kind of weird to say "paper is my special interest," but it is. all tools of writing interest me. so acknowledging that, accepting it and choosing to accommodate it, was my first small goal of building immediate positive stimuli.
some of the connection we have to social media (and phones in general) is the physical habit that develops from it. when smokers quit smoking, their hands feel empty. they're used to having something between their fingers, and so they replace that with something like a pen or a straw.
for me, i replaced the physical habit of phone-checking with paper-holding, either in the form of a book, or a notebook and pen. i set about finding my perfect notebook: the one that feels best to hold, the one i'm eager to fill, the one whose paper is quality enough that i love to write on it. the one i found and that kind of changed my life was a Rhodia A4 spiral bound. i take it everywhere with me. in fact i went to the doctor earlier this week and because i was holding my notebook, it didn't even occur to me to look at my phone while i was waiting for the doctor to see me, even though it was in my pocket (and i did download tumblr again, and instagram to support my sister, who is kind of a local influencer). the positive stimulus of looking at it had become less than the positive stimulus of holding my notebook. the potential to easily write something or doodle felt better than the distraction of social media.
did my doctor probably think it was weird that i was taking notes? maybe. did i look weird sitting in the theater before seeing oppenheimer, brainstorming barbie fic ideas? definitely. but i just don't care anymore. sometimes making healthy choices for yourself in a world built to manipulate your attention makes you look weird.
my advice is to spend a week without social media apps on your phone, logged out of them on your computer, and pay very close attention to the things that make you happiest. find ways to interact with those things continuously, and see what happens.

discovering weed with mo'at and kiri :
(this i guess will be part 1 , part 2 will be getting high with neteyam)
- you discovered the plant while out with tsahik and kiri looking for specific enhancer herbs that would help improve the pace of healing stages
- the plant was never seen before and it confused the three of you
- the moment was filled with laughter as mo'at told embarrassing stories of her grandchildren when they were much younger
- and the next moment was silent as she inspected the plant , its growing buds gloomed and glowed- it was definetly grown here with adaption to pandora
- such a thing was so strange that yous just had to bring a basket full back to the village
- in the hut(?) is where mo'at tested its grinding ability, along with its asorbtion while you and kiri attended to the wounds of an older na'vi and a na'vi around your age
- he said he broke his tail falling over but you didnt believe him- ..but ...it was indeed broken
-the hiss that came from mo'at startled the boy as she stared into the fire of the burning plant youd recently discovered
- a cloud of vibrant white smoke invaded the closed off area the 5 of you were in
- and thats how you ended up discovering what the humans called "marijuana"
- the 5 of you high off your shit in the humans lab under surveillance while toruk makto , neytiri and their sons were off miles away with other hunters and gatherers to retreive the loyal ikran after mating season , it was chaos
- when your eldest brother tsu'tey found out it was "bad" for you he was beyond angry- not at you or tsahik but the fact that ever since eywa birthed pandora they had never been taught the exsistance of this plant and what it does to your head
-oh well
- when your high for the first time its weird , not so much because of the feeling- hyperfocus, fuzzy feeling, dry mouth and dry eyes...but it was weird because of the irony of who you were high with
- mo'at aka your bestfriend nete's grandmother also aka the spirit leader of the clan...kiri the sweet daughter of the human lady ALSO neteyams adopted sister ...a gatherer..and some random boy you havent known of till he broke his tail doing what ever
-while your high all you can do it observe the changing colours of the lab , to your right you feel the eyes of the boy that sits next to you
-a few meters away mo'at speaks to the colours of the walls , up ahead kiri inspects her mothers gorgeous features
- the gatherer seems to be sleeping soundly...mouth agape...eyes wide open but literally theres no response from him if you tried to catch his attention
- u waddle over to the computer, playing around with the keys , tapping whatever interested you til a red light catches your attention and suddenly you see yourself on the hologram in front of you
-your confused puffed out state staring right back at you , kiri and mo'at in the back to your left doing whatever
-to your right is the gatherer picking his nose..and right beside you is the boy that youve ignored for the past dont know how long
-he just stares and its like weird
-the humans look happy to see na'vi in a state like this , they laugh hee hee ho ho and spider boy just pokes at kiris red puffy eyes laughing
- after about a whole eclipse , when your head is fine and everyone is better , your time was spent with a lecture from tsu'tey never to seek the plant again "or else"
-thats when you decide the best thing to do is search for the plant- with whom ever ist best ? neteyam.

lmk what you think ? should i post the part 2

A/N: I think I got myself into an unhealthy addiction of writing stories based on the songs stuck in my head, but well, it fits, so why not.
A/N 2 : This is just something to make you grasp the idea behind the story. The next chapters are going to go back in time to properly deal with the timeline and events.
inspired by : That's hilarious by Charlie Puth.

That's hilarious
Hahahaha.....
haha
Yeah, if you haven't already guessed I'm laughing because at this point nothing seems real anymore and if I wasn't laughing at the irony I would probably start crying, screaming and then jump our of the window.
Let me give you a quick introduction into my life, so you could understand me better.
Hi,
my name is Y/N and I'm a citizen developer. Which means I pretty much do everything that has to do with IT, Artificial Inteligence, programming, computers and programming. I loved my job to the point where I was spending hours and hours in front of the screen to be the very best. And truly, finally I got to the top. At the age of 21 I was a most-known in my profession.
And that got me some attention.
Did I mention I was born and living in Gotham?
So, perhaps you guessed who was the guy that gave me my first job?
No?
Well, it was Bruce Wayne. Yes, Wayne as in Wayne Enterprises.
Oh, god, I was on cloud nine being able to put my hands on all that technology, give my ideas and finally having someone to listen and apreciate them. I upgraded it, gave a bit of personal touch to the systems and god, it was amazing., I felt like I was where I belonged.
Bruce, however reserved and distant he was soon started to treat me like his own daughter. I mean, what else can you expect from a relationship between a CEO who spend most of his time with the youngest IT who also happened to be a half-orphan?
So, soon, he let me into the Wayne Manor, where I met his adopted son, Dick. Quite different than his parential figure, but pretty much the same with distant and pushing away. I didn't force him. It took us half a year to become some sort of friends and another half a year to fall truly, madly, deeply in love. No irony here. We spend a lot of time together. Or at least as much as our busy schedules allowed us to. Dick was a detective with crazy work hours, both night and day so when I get the chance I worked from the Manor, even when Bruce was not content with it.
Now that I think about it, i wonder how love-blinded I was.
That's when the story starts to go downhill.
When I was 23, Wayne Enterprises' tech department, with me leading it, introduced some new prototype. The whole project was on the highest security level, full NDA and confidentiality, so from some point the only people involved in the details were me and Bruce. I was literally sunsine and rainbows I get to be involved, hell! be the head of the assignment.
Until I got myself in trouble walking home from work at late night.
Remember, it was Gotham City and I was overwhelmed with our success.
So, due to my absent-mindedness some assaulters came right at me, grabbing both of my arms and dragging me into the dark alley. Of course I was figthing back, screaming and squirming, but what can one girl do in confrontation with 3 pretty beefy men?
Yes, three points for the right answer. NOTHING.
I was pretty much saying goodbye to my life (or at least my sexual health and good memories in that aspect - thank you, Dick Grayson for giving me them) when Gotham's heroes - Batman and Robin decided to show up, blowing everything and beating the assaulters to shit. Maybe they exaggareted a bit, after all those men were not criminals, and there was no need to knock them unconscious and that made me wonder. Still a bit overwhelmed I looked around and then I spotted Batman's new gear. Based on the technology I created.
So there were two, maybe three options:
Batman stole the technology from Wayne, and therefore he was not a hero everyone believed him to
Batman got the techonology from Wayne and therefore Bruce knew Batman's identity (Bruce would never let anyone, even the hero got it without checking all the details)
Bruce was Batman.......
"Bruce......?"
"Y/N."
"What is going on here?" I took a step back and bumped into wall
"Let me explain it to you....."
"Y/N!" another voice came from my right and before I realised what was happening, another caped vigilante was holding me close to his chest, his warm embrace being oddly famliiar. "Are you alright?" Robin's hands started caressing my back, his breaht ticking my face.
Holy fuck!
If Bruce was Batman than .....
"Dick?" my eyes went wide. Stupid, stupid girl! You should have known!
"Are you all right?" he asked again, a mix of desperation and remorse in his voice.
"Yes. I mean, no. I mean, I don't know. What is this? some sort of Surprise Sur Price?"
"Let us explain...." Dick took a quick glance at Batman Bruce who nodded
"Not here. It's not safe."
NOT SAFE!?
"Y/N." Dick took my hand squizing it gently, but lovingly "come on, baby, let's get you out of here."
"Um, well, okey...."
They got me to the Manor and then, since the secret was out and in their own words, they trusted me, I got a quick tour around the batcave. Yeah, they trusted me so much they kept their second life in secret for two fucking years! How is that trust?! I felt betrayed, played with, used, you name it. All that anger made me cry and clench my fist at the same time, my face going red and my heart at the edge of literally breaking.
"Talk to her." apparently that was too much for Bruce, since he decided to let my boyfriend deal with the damage. "You're off the patrol tonigh. Just make sure she'll be fine."
Oh, quite a conversation it was. However, at first not many words were used..... Anger, or rather fury, found another way out......But, when we both calmed down enough to use our mouths to actually echange full sentences it was all painfully clear.
The problem about heroes comes down to the fact that when being torn between their mission and the person they love ,they always choose the duty. And Dick did exactly that when he decided to sweet talk all my worries and cover up the truth for two whole years. That was sad. But, trying to be rational, I didn't scream or blame him. To some point I understood his motives, I mean, as a gotham citizen. As his girlfiriend I could not. I stayed in the manor until he felt asleep in his serene belief we were fine now.
We weren't.
I left Gotham that nigh, leaving him a letter explaing why I had to do this and kindly asking him not to look for me. The thought of the heartbreak he had to go through must have been soul-piercing. At least that's how it was for me when I found myself in Hell's kitchen trying to put my life together and move on.
I found a new job, but it was not the same without him.
And then Matt Murdock came into my life. He was such a nice guy, With an opinion amongst girls, as his best friend Foggy told me. Well, I was not going to fall for him. I had my walls high. Matt and Foggy were both lawyers and a bit of tech was kind of useful in this profession so soon we were working together. As friends. But clearly it was not enough for Matt. We were working late in his aparment, foggy has already left and I was picking my stuff to go home as well, already halfway to the door when Murdock yanked me back by my hand and kissed me with the most knee-buckling, hot, passionate kiss. You know, the one when you just reciprocate in an instant, no need to process what the hell is going on, while the other person's hand sneak around you pulling you closer. At first, i just let him caress my body, but quickly fall on the concrete.
"Stay with me...." he whispered against my lips
"Matt...." I pushed him away and he backed out immidiately
"I'm sorry Y/N. I didn't mean to push you, but I just... I have so many feeligns for you."
"No, I'm sorry. I'm just..... not ready. Yet."
"Yet?" damn lawyers
"Yet" I smiled lightly to defuse the tension
"Well then, I'm not giving up on you".
***
You know the saying "the history repeats itself?" Well it really does. I learned that in a painfull way, when a month later it turned out Matt Murdock was the devil of hell's kitchen. DAREDEVIL for fuck's sake. What was wrong with me and why the hell was I attracting vigilantes from the whole damn country?!
At least I didn't have to get myself in trouble to get to know his secret identity.
Oh no.
This was much worse when he stumbled into my apartment at 3 a.m. waking me up, in not so pleasant way, al bloody and on the verge of life. Yeah, we.... well, we had an argument. But somehow, he convinced me to stay. Something Dick couldn't do in the past. He never asked me to stay.
So I give in to the hope that this time it would be diffent. And I stayed, ready to fight for whatever was blooming between us.
And I was happy-ish to work through it with him.
And I was slowly moving on.
Until one evening, half a year after I left Gotham the past came knocking at my door.
Literally.
I was at my apartment, working and cuddling with Matt when the noice from outside made me get up and open.
"Y/N...... I found you...."
Dick fucking Grayson was at my door.
"Y/N...." he whispered tenderly "I need you back. I want you back with me...."
"Y/N? who is that?" in a blink of an eye Matt was by my side and at this point I was just turning my gaze from one guy to another in shock.
"Who the fuck are you?" Dick hissed
"Well I could ask you the same question" Matt retorted coldly
"I'm her boyfriend" ok, now it was Robin talking
"Funny thing, because that is who I am." hello, Daredevil, nice to see you woke up as well. I guess it was automatic - when Dick went into vigilante mode, Matt responded with exact the same.
"Guys....." I tried to stop them, but they did not let me.
"So you must be the ex?" Matt smirked
"You know about me? Does she moan my name when you two....."
"Ok! Ok! That is enough!" ultimately I got their attention, pretty sure I was red as an apple due to Dick's words.
Now.
I was the only thing standing between two vigilantes in their full-on fighting mode, ready to kill each other .
Oh, boy......

do you have any sources on ai energy use not being that big a deal? everything i see about seems to be really fear mongering bad faith stuff so i’d like to read a more balanced approach
Don't get me wrong, the energy use of AI is pretty expensive, and even if it's a small fry when many applications are still in development, mass adoption of tools could push it up to a significant power draw. Investigating ways to improve efficiency is important and thankfully there are lots of roads towards that that are being studied.
What I'm not overly convinced of is that the energy use of AI apps is too disproportionate compared to other industrial production processes and, at inference, other calculation intensive cloud computing operations. Data centers already pump out a lot of carbon doing boring business tasks. I think the reason people focus on AI specifically is because they want to reuse the angle they had against crypto, but imo that was a different beast because no useful work was being done. ML apps are actually doing calculations with a purpose, crypto proof of work just crunches empty numbers for their own sake.
That said maybe I was a bit too dismissive off AI energy cost in my initial post. Like all things that cost power these days we should be looking into ways to cut back, it's just that I don't think that that means that AI apps are a nonstarter, just that they exist in context with other things that people do with their energy, some of which are more frivolous but probably comparable in aggregate. Ultimate answer is to decarbonise energy production and increase data center efficiency in general...
As for sources, it's hard to find a good source that provides specific numbers on the overall power use of AI, most estimates are just for individual models. Some people have made ballpark guesstimates that it might be pretty intensive in the future, but if you want exact numbers now - well if somebody has a source for that now I'd also appreciate it.

Jay!
Hell yeah! The lightning ninja. Established early on as someone who literally cannot stop talking, the comic relief, the creative, scrappy guy all about reaching new heights! When we see his flashback sequence in s9, the concept that they stick with is the idea that Jay is a dreamer. He’s pretty ambitious always trying to craft something that will take him above and beyond (as in he was literally trying to make a flying machine), and his element helps symbolise it. He’s into being flashy like lightning, and tries to climb higher (relating to the sky). This ambition does lead to him having a lot of insecurities though, and he has some interesting ways of dealing with them but I’ll elaborate later.
Jay’s backstory when it’s told in s1, is the most straight forward. I mean, he’s the only ninja with both of his parents on regular speaking terms, although he grew up on a junkyard, it’s pretty mundane and he has an air of normalcy about him, which he seems to be trying to escape. He does really mundane stuff, like poetry and comic book reading (compared to Cole who abandoned art school to go mountain climbing shirtless). I kinda hc Jay having gone to public school and immediately getting bullied because he was raised in a junkyard and his parents are weird, bc those insecurities have gotta come from somewhere. He’s pretty impressionable too, getting fixated on video games and Cliff Gordon (and those also probably influenced his uhh outlook on women and romance).
Jay has a lot of insecurities. I’ve mentioned his upbringing but also his low self esteem is the crux of his true potential episode. Jay’s over the top bravado is him trying desperately to make others like him, almost to the point that he didn’t even tell anyone about the real problems he had (being a snake). The s3-4 love triangle plot follows the same themes; Jay feeling insecure and threatened by Cole, only to reveal that secretly he missed being Cole’s best friend and he hadn’t even confronted those feelings until s4. Again in s6, Nadakhan straight up says that Jay makes jokes to hide his deeper insecurities. And yeah I thinks it’s understandable why he would be a little insecure considering he’s living with shirtless mountain climber Cole, actually gets btiches Kai, literally computer for brain Zane, badass Samurai x Nya, and grandson of god chosen one Lloyd. On top of that, Jay is the most panicky ninja and the main comic relief of the team.
I think his greatest strength is his tenacity to succeed even when he’s at a low. As a junkyard boy, he learned to scrap together quick solutions out of barely anything as shown in Hunted, and when all his friends were captured in s6, he scrapped together a new team, and even after quitting the ninja he was able to make it big and score a job as a tv host. Nadakhan’s characterisation is supposed to parallel Jay in that, like Jay, Nadakhan also relies on what resources he had, and his own wits. Jay’s “fake it til you make it” personality has its use in how he doesn’t stop trying and can find ways to make the most out of his situation. He kinda embodies the message of Lego, being able to build his way to a solution. He’s a dreamer, with his head in the clouds, which makes sense because that’s usually where lightning is.
Although after all that’s happened to Jay, I have sort of a theory/headcanon to do with his perception of reality. Because Jay, since the start, already has some association with not being completely honest. I think Jay having some sort of detachment with reality is really interesting and it’s only briefly touched upon in the show. But yknow especially after s6 I think he should because a) Jay literally learned that season that he was adopted, and whilst he still loves his parents dearly, that’s still gonna shake him to find out that he doesn’t know a lot about his past and heritage, b) everyone he loves keep dying and undying again and again and at that point I think death would be even ever so slightly desensitised c) Jay literally bent reality to his will. He is one of the only two people who remember things that never happened, and all the tragedy that happened in his life was erased and promptly ignored. He never tells the other ninja. He’s never seen going back to Cliff Gordon’s house. We don’t see him go back for Echo. He isn’t shown to try to look for his mother.
(Crystalised part 1 spoilers)
Ninjago, intentionally or not, does play around with Jay and reality and his sanity in s9 and Crystalised. In s9, whilst Jay knows what’s going on, he just loses any semblance of self preservation and gives up with even the idea of being stressed about a situation so hopeless, and is weirdly at peace with it all. (Spoilers here) In Crystalised, Jay believes Nya is in cups of water and decides to become a hermit, cutting himself off from the world and kinda losing it. Jay tends to lose his grip on reality/lose faith in his situation and I think it might be because he’s been through a lot of things that have already made him question his life (s6). Also being separated fro Nya, who he not only loves but also is the only one who can possibly understand what he went through in s6, may have played a role in this.
It’s a shame Prime Empire didn’t really use this, since Prime Empire had all the pieces to have an escapism themed arc for Jay, which I think would’ve made sense since I think Jay could’ve used escapism to cope with his hardships, even before s6, even being a ninja is an escape from his boring junkyard life). Prime Empire provides a fun, totally harmless (not) adventure than you can physically use to run away from reality. Jay was popular there, and the most skilled there and it was supposed to be his season. I mean it would have been cool if the reason why half of Ninjago entered prime empire is because they’re also traumatised and want to leave too (just last season they were attacked by fire snakes and eldritch horrors). But they don’t really explore it that much so there’s some missed potential there (one day, I’ll rewrite this season).
Although we can see, ever since s6, some of Jay’s insecurities are alleviated. It might just be the writer change, but post 7 Jay seems to be a lot goofier that pre 7 Jay, (the uwuification), and I’m interpreting that as him no longer feeling like he needs to fake bravado in front of everyone else. And that’s nice. Jay has some really good developement, and is a really enjoyable character to watch because he’s just so endearing in my opinion. In conclusion, I like Jay’s arc and his consistent character traits and his character development, and he’s just a really interesting character.
