I hope you’ll forgive my selfishness, but I am dying to ask: What did Remus think the first time he saw Sirius in Beneath a Big Blue Sky??
today is your lucky day. I've mentioned a few times that I've dabbled in the possibility of one day writing more bits and pieces in the Beneath a Big Blue Sky world. whether or not this will ever all see the light of day I'm not sure, but since you asked, I'll share a little snippet of Remus and Sirius meeting for the first time - from Remus's point of view.
enjoy 🐑🐑 x
Tumblr media
“Mr Lupin, is it?”
Christ.
Remus nods slowly, shaking the other boy's hand. "If you like," he mutters. If I must be, he thinks. What a mess. What an absolute pain in the arse. "Two strong lads," Lyall had asked the agency for, and Remus knows because he was in the next room listening, and still smarting over the fact that his old dad wanted to hire help anyway. "We'll be reet," Remus had insisted, shaking out his left arm in proof that his shoulder was mostly healed, which it was. They would've managed: he still had his other arm, and all the ewes looked in good health so far, and bringing in two strangers to help run the season seemed like a fine waste of money to Remus and something they'd not done since he'd turned fifteen and proven that he was good and capable of handling just as much work as Lyall during the lambs, and he'd felt all kinds of embarrassed when Lyall had implied that this year he might need some help. As if he were now a problem to be solved, or somehow less of a man this year than he was last year, and certainly less than he ought to be.
But if they must get help - if Lyall must hire someone for a few months - then at the very least Remus had hoped that the workers who arrived would be up to the job. A couple of veterinary students, or something; someone who knew their way around a sheep, and it hadn't seemed too big an ask. As it is, the two boys standing dumbly in front of him on the station platform look less suited to farm work and more like they should be standing in a shop window somewhere, with their brand new boots and spotless, neatly-pressed cream trousers. Cream trousers, and all.
Remus remembers, one night in the late winter not long after the accident, being laid up in his bed in front of the fuzzy little television Hope had insisted on setting up in his room to keep him occupied during his recovery. It had a remote held together with Sellotape and a funny round aerial which didn't quite pick up the Freeview signal, and he'd been mindlessly flicking through the scant channels when he'd happened upon some reality programme or other; something about a load of toffs titting about London with daft haircuts and those cream trousers, and he wonders now if the two boys standing in front of him have seen the show, or realise how ridiculous they look.
Or at least, one of them looks ridiculous. The lanky one with the glasses and the palm that's far too smooth to have seen any real work in its life. He's still beaming down at Remus with a sort of manic smile, which sets Remus's teeth on edge - man looks insane - and then Remus lets his eyes slip away to the shorter boy standing next to him. And he's something else altogether. He's all cheekbones and soft, shoulder-length hair, the colour of Whitby jet, and it's tucked on the one side back behind his ear and then there's one pretty strand hanging loosely over his brow, and he's watching Remus uncertainly and when they make eye contact - when the noise of the four-by-four across the car park fades away to static, and the train on the platform huffs out a great cloud of smoke that Remus doesn't see - Remus feels his cheeks grow hot under his tan and something funny happens in his throat, and he thinks to himself: "Wow," and then, straightaway: "That’s bloody inconvenient."
They drive back to the farm in silence, mostly, and Remus swallows three times before asking the boy in the back seat for his name. Sirius, as it turns out; the dog star, and Remus suddenly recalls a night a decade ago when they'd been up on the fell and the air had been balmy and close and Lily had been reading out of that funny old book about the constellations. "What's that one?" Remus had muttered, pointing at a cluster of stars somewhere over the top paddock. Lily had yawned, and flicked over a few more pages. "Canis Major," she'd said around another yawn, and then: "That bright one's called Sirius, it says here," and Remus had squinted up at it, and frowned, and thought it was pretty good, as stars go.

The Possible Significance of Notrette
Tumblr media
Notrette Rembran is the most mysterious figure in G Witch, beating out even Prospera. We only know her from second-hand mentions and those are threadbare since it's a topic neither Miorine or Delling are keen to dredge up. She's a vast unknown but we do know one thing for certain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She 'made' this specific breed of tomatoes. This doesn't mean she was a farmer, Mio clarifies that her mother genetically modified these specific tomatoes to taste better. So a scientist and geneticist. But why is this detail important?
Tumblr media
Because in the second cour, we're treated to the reveal Suletta was never Eri. We naturally wonder where Suletta came from and why does she look just like Ericht Samaya, but the obvious answer would mean cloning (or Elan surgery but I doubt it tbh) We know from the Prologue Elnora is a deft pilot and engineer, but for all her talents she isn't a geneticist.
Tumblr media
In Episode 14 we're treated to the revelation that Quiet Zero was initially Notrette's project. But how did Prospera know that and was she at one point affiliated with Notrette? This exchange seems to point in that direction. That would give Prospera access to a geneticist, of whom would be interested in her plans for Aerial aiding QZ's end goal. I wager a specific pilot would be needed to make sure Aerial could operate as planned; a pilot with Eri's brain pattern and a familial bond so A(Eri)al doesn't reject them. It would also make the symbolic significance of Suletta and tomatoes quite clever. Remember how Mio explained her mother creating them while the show focuses on Suletta feasting on one? (like a feral raccoon but that's a different problem)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In episode 12 we discover a few details about Notrette's death. Delling's words imply it was a failed operation of some sort and both couldn't escape. So Notrette sent him to live for Mio's sake. Since both her parents were involved with QZ you can safely assume this fatal incident (and maybe Prospera) are linked. Considering the brief snippets we get from Aerial in Cradle Planet, this might be the same incident causing Prospera to seek refuge on Mercury.
Take note, the youngest Suletta is stated to be is the same age as Eri was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll be anticipating the rest of the season to see whether any of this is true!

Season 7 FANON FanFic: Buddie Multi-Chapter Fanfic - Hiatus Reading: “I’m still in love with you but... I needed to learn how to love myself too!”
Chapter 27 will be posted soon.
This is an EPIC LOVE STORY!
Tumblr media
Currently 26 chapters completed: 1M Words; Rated: Mature
One chapter will be posted at a time.
___________
I'm excited to finish writing Chapter 27 because at the end of Chapter 26, while Buck was sleeping, he made a sound that Eddie hadn't heard before. He immediately sat up in bed and called Eddie's name but he was in a daze and to Eddie, he appeared to be still dreaming but since his eyes were open, he started talking to him to get his attention.
They spent the majority of the day before in the hospital after Buck collapsed in Eddie's arms and suffered a bradycardia event of epic proportions. He was unconscious and unresponsive after he received a package that was delivered to the firehouse while they were in Europe. Once he opened it and read the letter, he reached the part where it stated someone died and it reminded him of his own death and it triggered the event.
He had an MRI, EKG and an ultrasound to confirm what prompted the two events. After the results were returned, Dr. Salazar discharged him with a Holter monitor that he has to wear for 48-hours so she can check to make sure his heart hasn't suffered any long-term effects from the lightning strike. Currently, they're home alone since Chris is still at a sleepover.
___________
Here's a snippet from Chapter 27 of Eddie trying to console his husband after he woke up in a state of sheer horrifying terror.
___________
The sounds escaping Buck’s lips through his cries are filled with pain and suffering and Eddie recognizes it because he remembers it’s how he sounded when he started destroying every piece of furniture in his bedroom with a baseball bat almost two years ago.
“I love you.”  Eddie admits.  Then he starts speaking Italian.  “Ti amo, amore mio.”  [“I love you, my love.”]
“ED—DIE? PLEASE DON’T—DON’T LET GO!  OK?”
“NEVER AMORE MIO!  I’LL NEVER LET GO OF YOU BECAUSE YOU’RE MY HEART, YOU’RE MY SOUL, YOU’RE MY EVERY—THING!”
As he continues holding on to his husband, he comforts him as they cry about the fact that Buck died last year.  He tries to compose himself several times but the weight and the magnitude of seeing Buck hanging from the aerial is a picture he can’t get out of his mind.  He reminds himself that they both can’t lose it because one of them needs to be coherent just in case Buck becomes unresponsive again like he did while they were at the hospital yesterday.
Even through their brokenness, he keeps talking to his husband.
“You’re alive my love.”
“You’re in the present with me and it’s January 3, 2024.”
“It’s been almost ten months since that night but you’re here with me and I’ll never let you go.”
“We’re going to die on the same day at the same time in 50 or 60 years from now.”
Buck’s cries are getting louder as he continues to feel every ounce of grief he’s been avoiding since last year.  And when his Holter monitor starts beeping, Eddie knows that sound means one of two things, either Buck’s heart is beating too fast or too slow.  Neither option is good because they’re both detrimental and they can both lead to Buck’s death if they aren’t resolved quickly.  If it’s beating too slowly again, he’s experiencing another bradycardia event and if it drops below 30 bpm, his heart could stop beating and that will lead to him dying.  If his heart is beating too fast, then he’s experiencing a tachycardia event which means he could have a heart attack if it’s not lowered to a level of 100 bpm.
In a soft and calm but stern voice, he calls, “Evan, my love! Can you hear me?”
He’s still crying but he nods his head while it’s lying on top of Eddie’s shoulder.
With the alarm still blaring, he says, “Amore mio, I need you to you to listen to me.  We have to get you calm so your heart rate will stabilize.”
Buck’s trying, he really is but he still feels that tug at the back of his head trying to take him under but he’s fighting to stay alert so he can remain responsive and conscious.
“Shh... my love.  I need you to listen to me and I also need you to breathe with me too.  Can you still hear me?”
He opens his mouth and he tries to speak but it takes several seconds for him to inhale enough air into his lungs so can respond.
Eddie doesn’t let go he just keeps holding onto him with their chests pressed together.
Is Buck going to suffer another bradycardia event? 👀
Or could he suffer from tachycardia this time? 🤷🏽‍♀️
___________
Fic Summary: Months after Buck and Eddie were hit by the same lightning strike; they’re still struggling with the aftermath of it.  But before they make their love confessions, they’ll spend time getting to know themselves as individuals first. Eddie learns to enjoy the simple things in life as he participates in activities on his own and with new friends while Buck learns the rest of the 31-year-old deep dark family secret about his conception and birth. Their journey to forever is still a work in progress but once they finally admit they’re in love with each other, everything that follows their love confessions will be cataclysmic.
__________
Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1 - Eddie makes a new friend while Buck receives devastating news regarding the sperm donation he made for Connor and Kameron.
Chapter 2 - Buck does a lot of research to learn more about the abnormalities found in his red blood cells and Eddie starts a new therapy journey that’s all about him and not the traumas he’s experienced.
Chapter 3 - After more than a month, Buck and Eddie finally spend time together outside of work but it doesn’t end well and they part with a lot of uncertainty regarding their places in each other’s lives.
Chapter 4 - Eddie has a few realizations about his life which causes him to consider moving back to El Paso, TX while Buck continues to be reminded of his past which causes him to take an impromptu road trip across America.
Chapter 5 - Both Buck and Eddie have difficult conversations with their parents and Buck finally learns the truth behind the reason why his mother despised him while Eddie finally tells his mother about the way she tries to control him.
Chapter 6 - More than two weeks after Buck pushed Eddie away after suggesting they needed a break; Eddie decides to try again. Eddie’s there for Buck when he’s at his worst just like Buck was there for him when he was at his worst and he won’t let Buck give up.
Chapter 7 - After Buck’s mental breakdown, Eddie has his back the same way Buck had his when he had his own breakdown more than a year ago.  They share several vulnerable and emotionally intimate moments with one another and they begin to realize their small, sweet and caring gestures matter just as much if not more than any grand gesture ever could because these are the foundations of a long-lasting love relationship.
Chapter 8 - Buck, Eddie and Chris all have their own therapists and during their sessions, they reflect on their pasts while they’re in the present so they can prepare for their future together as a family.
Chapter 9 - Buck and Eddie are there for each other when Buck has to testify as a witness during the trial.  But by the end of it, they’ll both realize their individual and shared traumas are going to keep resurfacing until they talk about them, deal with the fact that they’re in love with one another and face the fact that they can’t live without each other.
Chapter 10 - As Buck and Eddie finally begin to confront their past traumas, they realize how much they need each other to fill in the gaps of their memories.  Additionally, the universe screams at them for what appears to be the one hundredth time so Buck can realize he doesn’t have to ‘find it’ because he already ‘made it’ and Eddie’s reminded tomorrow isn’t promised and he doesn’t have to die alone if he doesn’t want to.
Chapter 11 - A “virga” or dry thunderstorm is in the forecast but once the rain starts, the thunderstorm happening outside won’t be able to match the storm brewing inside between Buck and Eddie.  It’s the universe’s final scream and when the tumultuous winds begin to blow, they’ll have one last chance to hold onto everything they’ve built over the last six years or they’ll lose it all forever.
Chapter 12 - Buck and Eddie have always shared a deep physical attraction and an emotional intimacy that’s unmatched but now that they’re in a relationship, they’re learning how to navigate the romantic intimacy they’ve been waiting for six years to explore. The love they have for each other is a once in a lifetime, soulmate, love of their lives type of love that transcends space and time.
Chapter 13 - While navigating the newness of their romantic relationship, Buck and Eddie take advantage of every moment they spend together. As their individual lives, people from their pasts, time constraints and the possibility of losing each other again make attempts to interrupt and interfere with their journey to forever, they love, care for, support and hold onto each other even tighter to withstand it all.
Chapter 14 - Buck and Eddie can see the lights at the end of the tunnels regarding the results of Buck’s Cancer Screening along with everything else they’re dealing with. But are the lights they see exits to the tunnels or are they headlights on different runaway trains that are speeding towards them in an effort to interrupt their forever?
Chapter 15 - Buck and Eddie have known they were exactly who the other one wanted in a partner since they met six years ago when they agreed to have each other’s backs. They’re in a romantic relationship, they’re both preparing to ask the other one to spend forever with them and by the end of the seventh week into their relationship, together they will plan their most important and greatest adventure for their future.
Chapter 16 - As Buck and Eddie begin to prepare for their marriage ceremony that will take place in Rome, Italy in December 2023, they start planning their first international adventure as a romantic couple. Even though Chris is still the only person they’ve told about their relationship, several people who know them have already witnessed the love they share and as the days continue, others will witness it too.
Chapter 17 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to departing Los Angeles for their international adventure, a moment in time will remind them; life is fragile, tomorrow isn’t promised and every second of everyday should be cherished because everything can change in an instant. The result of that realization will cause them to hold onto each other even more.
Chapter 18 - As Buck, Eddie and Chris prepare for family gatherings before and during the Thanksgiving holiday, the “Santa Ana Winds” start to blow and all sorts of expected and unexpected familial drama ensues.
Chapter 19 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to their wedding day, the universe begins to align everything so that some of their parent and children's relationships are strengthened while others come to an abrupt end.
Chapter 20 - With only 14 days remaining until Buck, Eddie and Chris depart Los Angeles, CA traveling to Rome, Italy, for their first family adventure, an early morning conversation about “tying up loose ends” helps Buck and Eddie realize there are still several things left unfinished on their ‘To Do’ lists. The question is will there be enough time to complete all of them?
Chapter 21 - Buck, Eddie and Chris are finalizing their ‘To Do’ Lists, double checking their itineraries and packing their suitcases in preparation for their trip to Europe so they can board their flight that departs Los Angeles, CA on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 3:25PM.
Chapter 22 - While Buck, Eddie and Chris spend the first 8 days of their European family adventure in Italy, their primary reason for going will be fulfilled as well as several others they hadn’t considered or anticipated.
Chapter 23 - As the Diaz Family continues their Italian family adventure, they’ll say, “Ciao” or hello and goodbye to a lot of things almost immediately after they become an official and legal family.
Chapter 24 - After Buck, Eddie and Chris arrive in London, England on December 24th; the Diazes immediately start preparing to spend their first family Christmas together. During their stay, each of them will hear a few choice words that will be the life raft to get them home to complete their searches to be seen and to be found.
Chapter 25 - After spending more than two weeks in Europe, Eddie, Buck and Chris are back in Los Angeles and they’re getting ready to attend Maddie and Chimney’s New Year’s Eve party. During the event, they have plans to make two surprise announcements but the question is, who’s really going to be surprised, the Diaz family or their found family at the 118?
Chapter 26 - Buck and Eddie are once again faced with their greatest fear of losing each other but this time it could be permanent and if it is, then they won’t be able to spend the rest of their lives together.
Chapter 27 - Will be posted soon.

NEW SD GUNDAM GAIDEN WORK HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED
Tumblr media
So, first is the little intro about this work. It's a new entry banner called SD Gundam Gaiden NEO. (The Knight Gundam series is separated into different banners that each series falls under. The previous one was New Testament SD Gundam Gaiden.)
The motif for this series is the 2022 Gundam series Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.
The title of this first entry is "The Forbidden Magic" and this first arc is "Shrine Maiden of the Dragon God".
I'll be translating stuff from the snippet on the P-Bandai page. (VPN needed to access it from outside Japan)
STORY
Many years ago, the Benerit Clan wiped out the Dragon Village. However, some villagers, mainly children, were able to flee into the deep forest. It has been said that mysterious magic since ancient times has been hidden there…
In the Benerit Clan, which destroyed the Dragon Village and built a city in the remaining wasteland, a struggle for supremacy was underway among the young chiefs of the three families. The control of that power spread to the surrounding area, and the people of the Dragon Village are once again discovered by the Benerit Clan.
Under orders from the head chief, Delling, the elites of the three families approached the silent forest…

Current Thoughts
I hope these aren't the final card artwork because it looks a bit bland with the default silver background. The ones with gradient look a bit better, but they are nowhere near as the fully rendered backgrounds in New Testament or previous works.
They do not give a gender, but I feel like Aerial is male here and idk how to feel about it. The card list does mention Ericht separately as a spirit, so that kind of alleviates my concerns. I just don't know how to feel about it.
The first chapter is Shrine Maiden of the Dragon God, which likely refers to Mio.
One of the spirits is Spirit Geist, which is one of Roux's main summoned Spirits in Kikoushin Densetsu, which makes me think this is in the Dabat Kingdom, but at the same time, I'm not sure since we've yet to learn where and when in the SD Gundam Gaiden timeline this takes place in.
It would make sense to have a story that takes place in that kingdom's area, since Seikihei Monogatari is the only one whose yet to have a post-Saddrac Knight Saga era work connected to it.

the gods grow tired
pairing: gwyneth berdara x azriel rating: e (for everything hurts) wc: 8k and some change primary tags: angst, hurt/comfort, major character injury, arguing as a form of foreplay, sex. for more detailed tags, see ao3. read on a03
In the aftermath of battle, Gwyn follows her heart… what's left of it. It leads her to the edge of chaos, where there is one more life to save.
a/n: happy gwynriel week(s) everyone! this fic isn't necessarily in line with any of the prompts (sorry!) but it tore its way out of me just in time to join in with the festivities. thank you to @gwynrielweeksofficial for throwing such an amazing celebration! i can't wait to work through all the fresh gwynriel content!
@damedechance - here's the tag you asked for, bestie. couldn't have done it without you 💕
warnings: there are some heavy topics in this one, boys. this is the seed that plants the PTSD… or like, exacerbates it. it's rough. the only way out is through and BOY are they going through it. please check the full tags list and take care of yourself first ♥
snippet under the cut!
When the last soldier fell and the scarlet rivers fracturing the battlefield slowed to thin veins, then, and only then, Gwyn let herself breathe. Gentle morning sunlight on the horizon lit the clearing for what it was— a massacre. Where once verdant green and lush copses of sycamores spread through flat meadows, there was now only blood, mire and scorched earth. Bodies, face down in viscera, were all the same. Friend or enemy, and all of them still. Silence, in the wake of war’s cacophony, curled tight around her spine — awaiting the ring of steel against steel, the sting of an arrow.
Koschei met them evenly matched and, in the end, equally damned.
Exhaustion dragged at her bones in the aftermath of adrenaline, its iron chains clasped to her boots and leathers. Five days. It had taken five full days for the battle to wage. Rhys had warned of how long it could take. A fortnight, his estimate. Heavy with hope, rations were packed to last the week.
Hers were lost the first night, along with four males from her cohort who died to protect it, and her, while she clutched at the edges of rest.
Sleep, apparently, was a luxury the Mother did not allow them. She did not attempt it again.
Food, water — all of it became second to survival. Second to the blade in her palm, the stained ribbon at her brow.
Despite the training, the blood rite, the experience gained along the way… nothing could’ve prepared for the ferocity, the unyielding brutality, of real and true war.
The bitter taste of victory was the only thing keeping her upright now, from falling to her knees on the sodden ground and screaming. As if tears could somehow cleanse the filth from her hands.
No, she had to keep going — to keep moving through violence’s cruel remnants, to find her team, her friends, her Valkyries.
Feyre and Rhys attacked from the field's distant edge, infernal power allowing them to mist entire battalions with hands entwined. Nesta had been back-to-back with Cassian the last time she’d seen them, manifesting death and destruction in their wake. Emerie had taken to the skies in one of twelve aerial legions, an obsidian pegasus lifting her above the cloud cover with over a dozen chosen riders heeding her command as gospel, Morrigan among them.
Gwyn had volunteered to take the flank, a smaller group of their swiftest, most vicious warriors tasked with infiltrating the scores of Koschei’s hoards by surprise. She’d taken the south and Azriel— oh Gods, Azriel — he’d headed north.
When the first explosion hit on the second day, it had been far from her side of the battlefield. Yet, her chest spiked with fear.
Then, silence. Horrific, terrifying silence. As if the mountains themselves had held their breath to hear it.

sunny and sides binary stars au pt.3 Praxus
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
bluestreak incoming :3 pt 3 of my aerial sparks apocalyptic cybertron with sunny and sides au called the Binary Stars au <3 (not in plot order) sunny is watchful of their surroundings even as sideswipe dances down the ruined streets of Praxus. A certain Praxian sniper is out of sunny's range tho >:)
pt 1 Vos pt 2 Tarn
bluestreak is an autobot, rescued just after the bombing of Praxus as a bitlet just about to get his adult upgrades (hes slightly older than sunny and sides in this au). currently, he is on a mission to scout out his former home to find any leftover resources or survivors/scavengers, as unlikely as that is, until he comes across a strange set of a yellow and red mech. autobot command advises for him to accompany them when they invite him on their travels... but it seems like sunstreaker and sideswipe have a dislike for both decepticons and autobots so Bluestreak will have to pretend he is a fellow neutral. No secret can be kept forever though.
tiny snippet i wrote before drawing this scene under the cut!
Sideswipe's giggles echoed from building to building, even as most of them were now husks once apart of the bustling street this used to be. Sunstreaker felt a pang of regret they weren't able to see it in its full glory, before the bombing of Praxus, like Sideswipe had so desperately wanted but better late than never.
His red twin was twirling through the abandoned and desolate street like he was performing to an imaginary audience, or maybe the ghosts of the many greyed out frames that still lay beneath all the wreckage. Sunstreaker wanted to protest at the loud noises Sideswipe made without concern of attracting the beasts that could be prowling nearby, but as always, he couldn't bring himself to interrupt his brother's happy mood.
A few scratches on his finish from the inevitable fight was an acceptable sacrifice for Sideswipe's happiness.

Six Sentence Sunday
Thanks for the tags today, lovelies @you-remind-me-of-the-babe and @artsyunderstudy ❤️ love seeing your work as always!
I'm really behind on my NaNo goal, but it's okay because at least I'm writing consistently every day. And CORB is upon us! I've still got about two weeks before my posting date, but I'm excited to see what everyone has come up with!
Onto the snippets:
#Wip 1:
Suddenly, I’m aware of a pair of hands on my face, cool and soft in their touch. I’m aware of Baz’s eyes, grey and wide open—wide open, but in the right way; blinking, full of confusion and barely disguised contempt.
“Breathe, you menace,” he all but orders. I do. I try, at least. “Crowley, Snow, you’ll blow up the whole fucking tower.”
That doesn’t help. I grip his arms and squeeze. He pulls me further into him until his arms are around me and we’re chest to chest. I grunt—a sound that’s almost animalistic—and Baz shudders.
I let myself sink into him, feel the rhythm of his breathing, his chest rising against mine. I try to match it, as if I can pull his breath from his lungs and into mine.
I turn my head into his neck and bury my face there. The curtain of his hair covers my eyes, cedar and bergamot fill my nostrils, until there’s no space for the smoke. Merlin, this is so much better than sniffing towels and shampoo bottles. Straight from the source.
And from wip#2:
Right now, we’re going through the most common poses and moves performed on the straps—we still don’t have a theme for the act, so we can’t start working with Ebb or Rhys just yet, but Baz has been walking me through the basics of aerial.  “Eagle. Gazelle. Secretary,” he’d said, demonstrating each one for me. I’d just snorted and said: “Those sound like sex positions.”  He glared at me. That seems to be the start and end point of all our conversations.  (Although I do admit it was a stupid thing to say. I really didn’t need to make any correlation between Baz and sex, especially when we’re training together in so little clothing.)

When I read enough easily-crossed-over stories, such as for instance all of these boat and boat-adjacent books, what inevitably happens is I end up with a nebulous meta crossover setting where they can all hang out outside of their respective canons, because I have spent far too much time in This Time Round.
Also I was thinking about that post I made about how Aubrey and Laurence are not that similar actually, and speculating that if Aubrey had (in an equivalent situation) taken the cure to France he wouldn't have spent the next however many books regretting everything, he'd come around a lot quicker to just owning it.
That's not what happens in this snippet but I did write a snippet from the nebulous meta crossover setting, see below. I am terribly afraid it is wildly out of character but I actually don't think it is.
Edit: Now on the Archive.
****
“So you are Laurence,” observed the big post-captain, accurately; “the lunatic who gave up the Reliant to go flying about in the air. Aubrey, in Surprise.”
Laurence looked at the other man’s extended hand for a moment as if it were a foreign object. He took it and felt his own hand vigorously shaken. “That’s what you object to?” he said, unforgivably blunt, but he had not expected such a greeting, not now, not from anyone in that uniform. Some of the spacefarers had been kind, but he found the nature of their service still more disconcerting than the Aerial Corps had once been.
“Object? Why, you must do as you see fit,” said Aubrey, puzzled, and then his face cleared. “Oh, that. I own Dr Maturin—my particular friend, a physical gentleman—” (he nodded across the room towards a small dark man in a shocking old wig, deep in conversation with one of the starship physicians, who was distinguished by a sky-blue jumper which evidently passed for a uniform) “I own I did not see just how it was, till he explained it to me. I am only sorry to hear the Government should have behaved like such very mere scrubs.”
“So I thought,” said Laurence, quietly. “And yet I fear there are worse names for my own actions.”
“None to be used in this company. Now come,” said Aubrey, sweeping him along to a table, “tell me how you navigate, seeing there is a vertical component….”
****
[NOTES: a. In fact Jack and Stephen had a massive row which he's not describing; he didn't start out this OK with Laurence's treason but I think he and Stephen together would end up there, especially as it wasn't his England that got invaded as a result. b. I know Laurence comes to terms with it in the end but this is set before that. c. Stephen's new friend is Dr McCoy of Enterprise but neither of them know him yet.]

Anything from the Temeraire or Torchwood sections of the RoL Crossovers?
So the concept behind the Temeraire crossover that I've been playing around with is still a bit loose, but the general idea is that some practitioners serve in the aerial corps because dragons And magic is a very fun concept, although I've yet to decide if Nightingale is the last active wizard or not. (Tbh he probably is, I just haven't figured out what happened to the rest of them yet.) And, as this snippet would suggest, Molly is a dragon:
Just as Temeraire was about to seize the cow of his choice, a small black and white dragon appeared out of nowhere and stole it out from underneath him in a gliding swoop. She sailed off down the valley with her ill-gotten prize, moving as quickly and as silently as she had arrived.  “Oh!” exclaimed Temeraire, outraged. “Oh! Laurence, that dragon stole my cow!” He was bristling, backwinging as if he was about to chase after her. Laurence tried to reassure him.  “There are plenty of other cows, my dear,” he called.  “Yes, but that one was mine.” Despite Laurence's best efforts, he pursued the smaller dragon down the valley. Perhaps knowing she would be outmatched on speed, the little black and white creature tried manoeuvring and looped back to fly over the heads of the onlookers and land in the courtyard. She dropped her now-dead prize on the ground and stood over it, hissing viciously in Temeraire’s direction and lashing out occasionally with an unusually long and barbed tongue.  “There is no reason for you to be hissing at me,” said Temeraire, indignantly, as he came in to land in the courtyard also. “You are the one who is stealing.” The small dragon kept hissing, shifting position to better guard the carcass, clearly determined not to give it up.  “It’s that damned feral again,” exclaimed Barclay. “Someone send for Nightingale, he's the only one who can talk any sense into her.”
And, since I also enjoy the Torchwood stuff, here's a bit with Nightingale and Jack after the episode 'Captain Jack Harkness' that's also my best attempt at imitating the narration style in the short story 'Miroslav's Fabulous Hand':
“You should have seen it, Thomas,” says Jack. “It was beautiful.” It is 2007, and I am sitting in the atrium of the Folly, in one of the overstuffed green leather armchairs. Across from me, also in an armchair, sits a handsome, square-jawed man with spiky brown hair and clear blue eyes. He wears a light blue dress shirt, grey braces and pleated dark grey trousers in a 1940s style. The Second World War RAF great coat that he arrived in is currently hanging on the coat rack by the door, hung there by Molly. His name, or at least the one that he chooses to go by, is Captain Jack Harkness, and he looks to be in his 40s. Like me, he is much older than that. “The 1940s, dancing and singing and living,  and we stepped right into it,” Jack continues. “A dance hall full of soldiers, shining out right in the middle of the Cardiff Blitz.” His gaze is far away, lost in the memory. “It must have been quite something,” I say.  “It was,” he says. “They were.” A long moment’s pause, and then he sighs. “He was.” “Someone you met?” I ask, gently. I know the grief that I can see behind his eyes. Jack nods. “It was him, Thomas. The original Captain Jack Harkness.” I feel my eyebrows rise involuntarily. “The man whose identity you -” I can’t think of a more tactful word before Jack completes the sentence for me. “That I stole, yeah. Way back when I first visited 1941. The man whose name I’ve been using for a hundred and [number] years. Of all the dance halls in all of history, I walk into his.”

ty for the tags @strugglequill and @spindrifters 💕 i've got something from my good omens chaos fic with @impishtubist to share
Kew Gardens, London, 1947 “Didn’t know they could grow like this indoors,” Crowley muses, craning his head to admire the aerial roots pothos snaking in an arch over the conservatory path. Funny how humans are; they’d gone to all that trouble to shut every tiny bit of nature away, then decided to bring it into their homes anyway.   “Oh yes,” Aziraphale replies. “They can become quite abundant really, with the right conditions.” Crowley glances round to see Aziraphale leaning over the flowerbed to marvel at a ripe tomato. His eyes linger on the way Aziraphale’s trousers pull tightly over his plump ass, unusually visible with the exchange of his long coat for a summer cardigan, and a familiar frisson of frustrated hunger radiates through him. Crowley snaps his fingers, and a stem of the pothos breaks off and falls down into his outstretched palm. “Crowley!” Aziraphale admonishes, standing up to glare at him. “You can’t steal the plants!” “It’s a cutting, angel, it’ll grow back,” Crowley says easily. “That’s not the point! It’s not yours to take!” “Ahh, but it’s part of God’s beautiful creation, isn’t it? Here for us all to enjoy.” Aziraphale purses his lips. “But - but you’ve tarnished it.” “I’m a demon,” Crowley purrs. “Tarnishing is what I do.” He holds Aziraphale’s gaze determinedly, watching for the predictable flare in his eyes. It's nothing, it means nothing - or at least it doesn't mean he feels anything like what Crowley does. It's just their little game. Aziraphale bites back a smile, then looks away. He quickly miracles the plant a new stem, gives Crowley a smug look, and continues on down through the green house. Crowley’s all set to toss the cutting away, but his interfering heart clenches at the wastefulness of something so beautiful. The light catching on its curved leaf, illuminating the veins within it and casting an… ethereal green glow. He miracles up a clear vase when he gets home and carefully places the stem inside it, filling it up with water and setting it in front of the big window in his atrium. He hauls open the thick curtains hiding his home from the world, throwing his hand up to his eyes with a hiss at the sudden onslaught of sun. When he regains his sight, he can see the light dappling off the cutting and creating a tiny rainbow in the water.  Crowley frowns. “You better grow into something nice, after all this trouble,” he glowers.

Eivor's herbarium: Page 5 - grasses and yarrow from a cursed zone meadow
~
“From a hill-top meadow west of Grantebridge, where the land breathes again”.
~
Before changing county, I've been thinking about meadows and how agriculturally important they would have been to settlements like Grantebridge or Ravensthorpe. Handily there's a meadow not far from our previous stop outside Soma's longhouse, on a cursed hill-top just west of town.
Cursed zones are small areas on the map where a black roiling fog gathers, horses freak out, and Eivor talks of malevolence and cursed troll magic.
Tumblr media
This horse is questioning its life choices...
To dispel the curse you need to find and destroy a skull covered in glowing symbols. Shoot it and the dark fog dissipates, with Eivor saying that the land can breathe again.
Tumblr media
The cursed troll magic symbol
Tumblr media
Cursed zones are a slightly odd feature, in that it’s not clear how the ‘magic’ of the curse works. There isn’t an obvious link to Isu tech. We find some notes/snippets of story around suggesting they’re being placed there by Saxons in an attempt to hex away the Danes. In the Wrath of the Druids DLC, the druids are using a recipe that creates hallucinogenic vapor to induce visions of werewolves etc, so the cursed zones could work in a similar way, with the fog being part of the mechanism. But it’s not clear to me unless I’ve missed something.
However they’re supposed to work, cursed zones are good places to find fungi, plants, and honking great big trees. So I quite like them. (I know some gamers hated them and felt they were pointless collectibles; if that’s you, maybe some video game botany will improve them?!)
Tumblr media
Aerial view of the hill-top cursed zone west of Grantebridge
The hill-top cursed zone west of Grantebridge has a particularly nice view from above and is surrounded by meadow. Since Eivor is helping run a settlement with farms, I’m sure she’d appreciate the importance of hay meadows to agriculture, and as a source of herbaceous plants for medicinal uses.
Tumblr media
In the long grass
What is a meadow?
A meadow is an area of grassland where the vegetation is allowed to grow tall and isn’t cut in spring and summer. In late summer/autumn, the meadow is mowed to make hay, which then feeds farm animals over the winter. Until then, cut meadow is grazed by animals (sheep, cows, maybe goats) which poop as they go, dropping some handy fertiliser around the place. When gets too cold and wet for livestock to be out grazing, animals are brought in and fed on the hay, with the meadow left until spring for the cycle to start over again. This is in contrast to pasture, which is grazed in the growing seasons rather than allowing grasses to get long.
Tumblr media
The un-cursed meadow, ready for hay-making
Hay meadows are full of diverse grasses and wildflowers. In AC Valhalla we particularly see yarrow, ox-eye daisies, and grasses like Yorkshire fog (4th pressed grass from the left) and meadow foxtail (2nd from left.)
Tumblr media
On this page I’ve centred yarrow, mainly because I’m saving the daisies for another page! The grasses are from a couple of square metres in my back garden that I keep as a veeeery smol meadow. I’m lucky enough to have some outdoor space, and my priority in life is generally insects. So I leave some grass to get tall, and encourage a range of local wildflowers and grasses that serve as food for bees, moths, and beetles. In the un-cursed meadow, Eivor might have also seen clover, yellow rattle, lady’s bedstraw, and I’d bet on sweet vernal grass and crested dogstail too (3rd grass from the right.)
Tumblr media
Ox-eye daisies in my local cemetery meadow
Hay meadows are an amazing reservoir of wild plant and insect species, but are now a rare habitat. Apart from the obvious changes in agricultural practice, capitalism doesn’t value biodiversity in spaces it could build on, extract from, or intensively farm the crap out of. But hope is not lost for meadow species. Many conservation organisations here work with farming communities to restore former meadows or to create new ones. Churchyards and church lands that haven’t been developed are also important spaces for meadow preservation – and in AC Valhalla we see meadows around the monastery at Meldeburne.
Tumblr media
Meadow grasses and flowers around Meldeburne monastery
Tumblr media
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
Super-common and very tough, yarrow is a component of meadows but is found anywhere grassy – it’s found in lawns and verges all over the UK. In my area you'd be hard pressed not to see any in summer.
Tumblr media
Yarrow in my backyard
Feathery, finely divided leaves gave it another common name, milfoil or millefoil, meaning 1000 leaves. It has clusters of small white or pinkish flower heads with an interesting structure. The flat-topped clusters of flowers look like they’re made out of daisy(ish) shaped individual flowers...
Tumblr media
...But take a look at those daisy shapes and you’ll see that each is actually a cluster of many smaller tiiiiny flowers that just LOOK like a daisy. The centre is made of a bundle of tube-like ‘disc’ flowers that have 5 petals fused together. These are surrounded by a few ‘ray’ flowers, each with one large petal. So cool!
Tumblr media
Yarrow: flowers inside flowers
Ecologically, it’s an important source of nectar and pollen for bees, and a food plant for many other insects, including moths and beetles. Some cavity-nesting birds use it as lining material. I encourage it to grow in my lawn along with clover, self-heal and black medick, because it’s a lot hardier and more drought tolerant than any lawn grass.
Historically, yarrow used to be used medicinally to staunch bleeding, but weirdly was also called ‘nosebleed plant’ because of a myth that it caused nosebleeds. It also used to be used as a good luck charm.
Tumblr media
Yarrow and ferns
I'm going to move onto the autumnal ferns of Ledercesterscire for page 6, but I'll probably come back to Grantebridgescire for some of the other mysteries.

Rebels Rewatch: "The Antilles Extraction"
WEDGE WEDGE WEDGE WEDGE!
Hey, they had the budget to give at least one of these Rebel commanders a face!
This opening scene with the unfortunate redshirts serves two major purposes:
Establishes that the Rebellion needs pilots, and not just pilots but good pilots. (Recall the hilarity that in Legends canon they tested Wedge repeatedly for Force Sensitivity because they refused to believe he was just that good, lol.)
And it sets a baseline of the cruelty we can expect from the Empire. They wipe out this whole flotilla, even though the transport surrendered and is unarmed. Call Forward to Saw's Modus Operandi perhaps? At the very least hinting at the kind of blind dogmatic fanaticism the Empire encourages in its ranks.
Important to note: When the tips of a TIE are painted like that... that's an ace. That is someone you do not want to mess with in aerial combat.
Once again, the A-wings get a really raw deal in this show.
Tumblr media
Hngh, Ezra's hopeful expression when Sato mentions "Fulcrum", he was so ready to believe that Ahsoka had somehow survived. *cries*
Tumblr media
I think everyone in fandom and their dog guessed that the new Fulcrum was Kallus, lol. Once again, really should have gotten to see some of that arc onscreen. Didn't have to be much, just a scene or two here and there showing him researching into the Geonosian massacre or something and then attempting to get in touch with the Rebellion.
Ezra's objections to Sabine going in undercover play a little bit back into his overactive Hero Complex, that the holocron took advantage of to tempt him. Even though he's sworn off the Dark Side at this point, the underlying causes for why he was flirting with it in the first place--to prevent anything else bad from happening to the people he cares about--are still in effect. So having to wait in the wings and surrender control of an uncertain situation that could prove dangerous to his family is still going to be a source of distress for him.
Unfortunately, as Hera points out, Ezra's face has acquired lots more notoriety (at least in Imperial school circles), so Sabine's the one who's gotta do it this time. And she does not sound too eager about it lol.
Tumblr media
This show is so good at lovely environments.
Sabine is the tiniest one there lol.
Tumblr media
Kanan putting a supportive hand on Ezra's shoulder 'cause he knows Ezra's worrying. <333
"I'm just not a fan of these solo missions." "Unless it's you." That is kind of how his Hero Complex works, he doesn't want anyone else putting themselves in harm's way, would rather take on the dangers himself so that nothing bad happens to anyone else.
("Tari did the fandom have uncharitable interpretations of this moment too?" Ohhhhh yes you betcha. Fandom, please let the boys care about and worry for their women without turning it into some kind of chauvinism PLEASE.)
Oh wow, that was a snippet of Luke's theme transposed to minor key, that was a brilliant musical move.
HI WEDGE!
Officer Prissypants immediately shutting down any attempt for the cadets to maintain their individual personhood, insisting on callsigns only. See fandom, this what actual cult-like indoctrination looks like.
(Probably one of the reasons Wedge was bristling under their control, he's got too big a force of personality to keep under wraps.)
So another reason why I think the hints of Force Sensitive!Sabine in the Ahsoka trailers have to be a big red herring or else a giant-ass dumb retcon? Recall if you will the Empire has methods of testing for Force Sensitivity, if anything about Sabine's skills as a pilot here had pinged them as a little too good they would have flagged her and called for an Inquisitor to come investigate. (Even given that we lost three at Malachor.)
Or you know... just shot her.
Oh look, basically the same in-field situation they just showed us in the opening! Designed as a test of pilot loyalty: Unquestioningly follow these orders to blow up this ship or you're a filthy traitor to the Emperor.
We can see now a glimpse of how the Empire suppresses all individual thinking, personality, creativity, and humanity in its members, turns them into mindless drones to be pointed as weapons towards the Empire's enemy. Also that the Empire nominally has standards that purport to offer a sense of fair play and moral rule, but that it will immediately ignore its own rules when it suits them, again, in order to go after and obliterate its enemies.
Rebels said watch out for anyone who tells you not to ask questions or express doubts or concerns and who operates on Rules For Thee.
Love that they put the Ghost in the simulation lol.
Tumblr media
You gotta know Sabine is chafing under this reprimand from Vult Skerris (the ace in our opener), this is her cadet days all over again, being told to sit down and shut up like a good girl and not worry her pretty little head off.
Wedge already admiring Sabine for her guts and dropping narrative hints that he's one of the defectors. We knew this already, of course, because it's Wedge, but still.
Tumblr media
HI HI PRYCE! HI KALLUS. :D
Tumblr media
Kallus must be so frustrated that ISB sent him personally to root out the sympathizers they learned about lol.
(Unless he volunteered for it himself, to try and cover their escape and help them if he could?)
Lol the stink eye he gives Pryce.
Sabine lucks out and stumbles across the very self-same sympathizers conversing in the hallway and of course no one is surprised to see Wedge.
Tumblr media
Really can't praise the environment and lighting work on this show enough.
Sabine carefully feels Wedge out and confirms he's a defector and reveals herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Welcome to the Rebellion, hope you're good at Indy Ploys lolol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ezra's agitated pacing as he worries about Sabine. <3
Tumblr media
And Kanan speaking directly to the insecurities and anxieties and fears that drove Ezra to consult the Sith holocron.
(Once again the parallels to Anakin "I need to be powerful enough to stop people from dying" Skywalker are great. The heart of Jedi philosophy is realizing you are not in control, and letting go of your fear of loss. Per Lucas, it doesn't mean you don't fight to preserve life if you can, but that if it is their time, you accept it. You don't go down into Hades to get them back, you don't break the laws of the universe to spare yourself that pain. You love them, and let them pass away. You let go.)
Ezra's immediate, "Of course I trust her." awwwwww.
Ahhh Kallus went along to be all, "We have investigated ourselves thoroughly and have found we have done nothing wrong." re. the defectors.
Hi Hobbie! Hi redshirt that absolutely bites it because we don't know him from the OT!
Tumblr media
Still loving how Sabine is tinier than everyone there.
"These Rebels you say are waiting for us, do you trust them?" "With my life." UNQUESTIONING FAITH IN EZRA TO SWOOP IN AND SAVE HER AWWWW.
Yeah yeah Kanan is there too but Ezra's the one in the command seat LET ME HAVE THIS IT'S CUTE.
"Come on Ezra... where are you?" See, Sabine specifies him too.
The Rebel Alliance fanfare as the CR90 jumps in, yay!
Tumblr media
"Sabine? Hope we're not too late." "Right on time." Sue me, I love cute banter.
And I hear the "Shenanigans" cue in heroic horns there.
Pryce reveals herself to be Actually Pretty Clever, having rigged the TIEs with kill switches beforehand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HA HA HA HA NOT THE LAST TIME SABINE WOULD PLEAD WITH EZRA TO ESCAPE A PERILOUS SITUATION. *weeps in finale feelings*
And he still hates leaving people behind. But Kanan's right, they have to apply some Jedi non-attachment in this case or risk being unable to help her later. On account of, you know, being dead themselves.
Tumblr media
:(
Pryce waltzes in being fabulously nasty and effortlessly reveals Sabine. Kinda wonder if the Imps just had this interrogation table on hand or if Pryce brought it with her.
Ooof Sabine's comment to Kallus here about "they found someone to do your job" had to hurt.
Tumblr media
Have I mentioned I love Pryce yet? I love her, she's so casually patronizing and cruel and I adore that she's also a pretty effective brawler.
Love this little fight, it's not pretty or civilized at all, all grappling and dirty tricks.
Wedge is not quite skilled enough in the Indy Plot to pull off escapes like Ezra and Sabine yet lololol.
"Tell Garazeb Orrelios we're even." <333333 I love him.
Shades of Poe Dameron in Wedge's "I can fly anything." boast.
We sacrificed speed for durability, a smart decision when up against an ace like Skerris, actually. The bomber takes three direct hits without shattering like a normal TIE would. And Wedge handles it with much more maneuverability that it'd normally be flown.
Tumblr media
Ho ho man this hero shot of the CR90 emerging from the clouds. :)
More adorable Sabezra banter. <333
Tumblr media
Lol Hobbie not giving Sabine his real name (Derek Klivian btw) so she has to awkwardly give his nickname to Sato.
And congrats, we have successfully completed another Friendship Fetch Quest!
I remember being kind of bored with this episode the first time around (Sabine was kind of the least interesting member of the main cast for me, up until Season Three) but I think I appreciate it a lot more now. The look into the workings of the Imperial propaganda and indoctrination machine is illuminating, Wedge is pretty cute and it's nice to see him before he was a noted Rebel hero, and Ezra's concern over Sabine makes my shipper heart warm.
Amazingly, however, we managed to completely avoid getting any kind of backstory for Sabine out of an episode where she literally goes back to an Imperial Academy. So I guess if I had to nitpick this episode it might have been kind of nice to see her have to struggle a little bit more with being there, besides the one regretful look in the beginning and the bristling at her reprimand in the middle.
But aside from that, this episode was actually a pretty nice one.

___________
Here are two snippets from Chapter 10; one for Eddie and one for Buck.
___________
Eddie
“I won’t hold you long but I have a question for you.”
“Ok, I’m listening.”  Captain Mehta responds.
Eddie looks around to make sure no one is in earshot of them, then he says, “This may sound strange but I don’t remember a lot about the day I was shot.”
Captain Mehta nods.
Eddie continues.  “My therapist suggested I ask someone who was there to help me fill in the gaps so is there anything you can tell me about what happened after I went down?”
“Diaz, I was there but after you were hit, I remember tackling Buckley to remove him from the line of fire and I spent the rest of the time trying to secure the scene and I was on the radio calling for help.”
Eddie nods then says, “Ok thanks.”
Captain Mehta tilts his head to the side and returns a look like Eddie should know who to ask.  In a low voice he asks, “Have you asked Buckley about it?”
“No.”  Eddie knows he should but he decides not to say anything else.
“Hmm.  Well, my suggestion is you talk to him because he was the one who pulled you out of the line of fire and I didn’t see either of you again until he pulled you out from underneath the ladder truck.”
“Thanks Captain Mehta.”
“Your welcome Diaz and you should really talk to Buckley about this because he should be able to fill in the gaps for you.”
Eddie nods and Captain Mehta gets inside of his Battalion #2 SUV.
Will Eddie talk to Buck about the shooting like Captain Mehta suggested?
___________
Buck
Buck’s perplexed now because he thought Chimney would be able to help him.  He asks, “What can you tell me?”
“Well… once you were lowered to the ground, we put you on a stretcher and me and Hen assessed you.  You weren’t breathing…”  He trails off as he watches Buck become uncomfortable.
“Are you sure you want me to talk about this?”
“Uh… yeah, I need to hear it.”
Chimney keeps a watchful eye on him.  “Well, I started doing compressions on you and then we got you loaded into the ambulance.”
Buck nods then asks, “How did I get down from the aerial?”
Chimney sighs.  “Buck, you should talk to Eddie.”
“Why?”
“Because he can tell you more about what happened before you were lowered to the ground and he can tell you what happened after we got you to the hospital.”
Buck frustratedly asks, “Why can’t you tell me?”
Chimney can tell Buck’s getting upset so he calmly says, “As I stated earlier, I was on the ground doing crowd control but Eddie was the one on the base of the aerial controlling the ladder.  He can tell you what happened before you were lowered to the ground because Bobby was calling it in, Hen was on the ground with me then she backed the ambulance into position.  I got back onto the base of the ladder but Buck… you need to talk to Eddie.”
Will Buck talk to Eddie about the lightning strike like Chimney suggested?
___________
This is an EPIC LOVE STORY!
Tumblr media
Fic Summary: Months after Buck and Eddie were hit by the same lightning strike; they’re still struggling with the aftermath of it.  But before they make their love confessions, they’ll spend time getting to know themselves as individuals first.
Chapter 11 - Will be posted soon.

Inspired by fan art & the sudden wintery chill in my area, I decided to start writing a short Helluva oneshot featuring the circus kiddos! It’s nowhere near complete, but I wanted to share this small snippet here!
For as hot as Hell is, it too has its seasons not unlike the surface world. Sure they never experience any snow or extremely frigid temps, but there is a noticeable drop in temperature when the winter months roll around. Everyone across the rings of Hell adjusts accordingly to the elements, some going out less while some tend to sleep more, while others don’t really alter their routine at all. For one Blitzo Buckzo, the latter was the case for him.
No matter how cold it got and would continue to get as the winter months progressed, his dad would always make him perform his acts during shows for the circus, and when he wasn’t doing that, he was most likely found shoveling after the animals or taking out loads of trash from within the bleachers in between shows. While he enjoyed the acts he got to perform with Fizzarolli, he couldn’t help but lose focus more often, as the cold would cause him to stiffen up and shiver, almost causing him to miss Fizz’s hand when they performed their aerial moves. The audience loved the danger of course and thought it was all part of the show, but once it was over, Cash had been furious that Blitzo almost cost them a fuck ton of money they didn’t have on medical bills. Of course, always worried about money more than his own kid’s safety.
Blitzo really didn’t like him for that.
He was grounded from performing after that, and was given double the chores he normally did to fill up what would otherwise be spare time. He was still angry that his dad wouldn’t let him perform, but also saddened that he wouldn’t get to spend time with his best friend until the end of the day, and even then it wouldn’t be long before they were sent to their tents for the night. Blitzo knew he didn’t need to worry about Fizz performing without him, he had all sorts of solo acts, as well as some duos between him and Blitzo’s twin sister Barbie Wire.
What he was worried about was how cold Fizzarolli’s hand felt when he grabbed it during their performance, and he noticed how when, they would present their balloon horses to the crowd, the smaller imp with larger horns would shiver slightly, and he kept his tail curled further inwards towards his body than normal. It was then that Blitzo really looked around at their audience, and noticed that most, if not all, imps in attendance were wearing heavier articles of clothing that was commonly seen during the winter months. His father wouldn’t let them do the same, saying it would impede their ability to perform, and their mother Tilla was far too sick to argue with him. She’d been bedridden for weeks now. Blitzo really hoped she’d get better soon.

Random Snippet
CW: fluffiest of fluff!! DNE if littering upsets you.
“Did you just… throw something at me?”
“Nno.”
Villain looked down at the plastic rapper laying innocently on the ground besides them.
“Hhhmph, you sure, darling?”
‘Inconspicuously’ holding in their laughter, Hero’s lips opened in a loosely held smirk. “I swear, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Eyebrow raised, Villain gave Hero their most unbelieving expression before looking back at their current reading. The newspaper had some interesting stories toda—
Another tiny ball of trash bounced off their glasses.
“Hero!!”
“Hmm?”
They were looking out the window, sucking on another piece of hard candy. But Villain could see their smirk… they were guilty, no doubt about it.
“You really are a terrible liar. I am never buying you those again.”
“Hey!” As Hero’s betrayed and bemused eyes found theirs, it brought a genuine smile to the criminal’s lips. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t keep the humorous lilt from their voice.
“Nope - I simply couldn’t live with myself, encouraging such dishonest behavior from the city’s most noble hero.”
“But you llllove me.” It was a fact - and Hero’s voice was laced with pride as they stated it, expression one of feigned innocence.
“I do love you, so very much. And that’s why I have to look out for you,” Villain popped one of the treats into their mouth as they took the bag into protective custody. “These are mine now.”
“That’s not fair! I want another one!”
Of course, the bag was perfectly within reach - the two lovebirds were only a couch apart.
“Haha - nnno, I am putting an end to your aerial assault.”
“I feel betrayed.”
“That makes two of us.”
Now Hero was smiling too, their eyes full of loving mischief. Villain looked down for a second, to flip the paper around and take a sip of their coffee.
That’s all it took for Hero to discreetly toss a candy into their drink, laughing as the city’s most notorious villain yelped and almost dropped their mug - all because of a caramel.

Witch from Mercury episode 7: The Miorine special
Tumblr media
A lot of amazing character moments in the latest Witch From Mercury episode, but it really was Miorine who took a much deserved spotlight for once.
There have been episodes prior where she appeared to be sidelined in order for the show to better flesh out other characters. But I'm okay with that when episodes like "Shall We Gundam?"—where she has the opportunity to indulge in some agency and stand up to the coldly corporate world she grew up in—are so well done.
Tumblr media
She's unafraid to tell Suletta that she wants to protect her. She sheds some of the icy exterior she likes to maintain. Once again, she sacrifices her dreams of a simple life on Earth to save Suletta and Aerial from being disposed of. She swallows her pride to get her father on her side for the grand business plans...
Shaddiq was right about her, even if she is dismissive of his claims: Miorine has changed thanks to Suletta. Though, knowing about Miorine's lost mother, one has to wonder if we're instead seeing more of the Miorine that existed before her mother's passing.
Tumblr media
We don't know how Miorine and her father's relationship was prior to the death of her mother, nor do we know what kind of relationship she and her mother shared yet. But with how Miorine cherishes and cultivates the tomato breed her mother made, it's fair to assume they were close, and that the harsh and cynical Miorine we see now was heavily influenced by the hole left behind in her wake.
I just hope we will continue to expand on these snippets of her character as time goes on. She is easily one of the most interesting characters in the show to me, and if her arc continues on its current path, I don't see that changing anytime soon.
