Nihlus and Kix finally get granted shore leave to visit their son, a month after they left him in the care of Mary Ann while they are still unfortunately enlisted and the war still on-going. Kix is... nervous. His first and currently only child, born premature and left in the care of others, and yet here he is, safe and loved, if a bit grumpy at having been awoken. He doesn't know what the rest of the war will bring, does not know what sort of life they will build together, but he will do his best to make it a good one. Nihlus is ecstatic. Finally, they are all together again. Finally, he has the man who carries a piece of his soul and the child who embodies their shared love and future in his arms. Finally, for the first time in hundreds of years he feels a genuine sense of... hope.
