"In slavery time most everybody round Opelousas talk Creole. That make the words hard to come sometime. Us both talk that better way than English.
"Durin' the war, it were a sight. Every mornin' Capt. Jenerette Bank and he men go a hoss-back drillin' in the pasture and then have drill on foot. A white lady take all us chillen to the drill ground every mornin'. Us take the lunch food in the basket and stay till they done drill out.
"I can sing for you the song they used to sing:
"O, de Yankee come to put de nigger free,

De Yankee get out they gun and say,
Hurrah! Let's put on the ball.
"When war over none the slaves wants leave the plantation. My mama and us chillen stays on till old massa and missy dies, and then goes live on the old Repridim place for a time.
"Both us get marry in that Catholic church in Opelousas. As for me, it most too long ago to talk about. His name Alfred Johnson and he dead 12 years. Our youngest boy, John, go to the World War. Two my nephews die in that war and one nephew can't walk now from that war.
"Felice marry Joseph Boudreaux and when he die she come here to stay with me. There's more hard time now than in the old day for us, but I hope things get better.

V-J/V-P Day
Following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Emperor Hirohito announced Japan’s acceptance to the Potsdam Declaration and surrendered on 15th August 1945, effectively marking the end of World War II. However, the official surrender ceremony did not occur until over two weeks later, and thus President Truman marked 2nd September as the official V-J Day.
Learn about V-J Day
It is estimated that anywhere from 60 to 80 million people died during World War II, on all sides of the conflict. V-J Day should be seen as not only the celebration of the defeat of the tyrannical Japanese government of the time, but also the remembrance of those who lost their lives.
There are a number of different ways that people refer to V-J Day. This includes V-P Day, Victory in the Pacific Day, and Victory over Japan Day. No matter how people refer to this day, what matters is that it is the day on which Imperial Japan surrendered in the Second World War, marking the end of the war.
Interestingly, there are really three different dates that can be considered the date of surrender. The first is the 15th of August in 1945, which is when the announcement of Japan’s surrender was made. However, in some parts of the world, including the United States, this was actually the 14th of August in 1945 because of the time differences.
As mentioned, there is also the date that the official document of surrender was signed, which was the 2nd of September in 1945. This is when the Second World War was officially ended.
Because of this, V-J Day is celebrated on different dates throughout the world. While the official US commemoration occurs on the 2nd of September. In the United Kingdom, for example, they actually celebrate V-J Day on the 15th of August.
History of V-J Day
In order to understand the history of V-J Day, we need to delve deeper into the history of the war and the events that happened in the build-up to this date. On both the 6th and the 9th of August, in 1945, the United States dropped atomic bombs on both Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The Soviet Union also declared war on Japan on the 9th of August as well. A day later, on the 10th of August, the government in Japan communicated that it intended to surrender under the Potsdam Declaration terms.
Celebrations around the world started early when they heard that Japan intended to surrender. In Paris, Frenchmen and Americans paraded and sang “Don’t Fence Me In” on Champs-Élysées. On the streets of London, on Regent Street, allied soldiers danced in a conga line.
It was six days later, on the 15th of August, a little bit after noon Japan Standard Time, that it was announced that Japan had accepted the Potsdam Declaration. Emperor Hirohito made the announcement over the radio to the people of Japan. Once the declaration had been signed, the celebrations across the world really ramped up.
In fact, in Life Magazine, they reported the following about Americans celebrating:
It was “as if joy had been rationed and saved up for the three years, eight months and seven days since Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941”
There were a number of different terms that were included within the declaration. This included the following:
“We do not intend that the Japanese shall be enslaved as a race or destroyed as a nation, but stern justice shall be meted out to all war criminals, including those who have visited cruelties upon our prisoners.”
“The Japanese military forces, after being completely disarmed, shall be permitted to return to their homes with the opportunity to lead peaceful and productive lives.”
“Japanese sovereignty shall be limited to the islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku, and such minor islands as we determine.”
Why not take a look at the Potsdam Declaration in full to learn more about V-J Day?
How to celebrate V-J Day
There are a lot of different ways that you can celebrate V-J Day. A lot of people have street parties and celebrate with their neighbors and their friends and families. This is something that people enjoy all over the world. It is an opportunity to be patriotic and show your love for the country you were born in. People like to hang up posters and bunting with their national flags, as well as enjoying traditional food and alcohol. What better excuse to have a party?
Of course, we cannot mention V-J Day without paying tribute to all of the men and women who lost their lives during World War Two. There are many different memorials and marks of honor that go on around the world on this day. As individuals, it is important that we all take a moment to reflect on those brave people who went to war for their country, with some never returning. Every year, it helps to learn more about the war and about the people who lost their lives. Pay honor to them and their families by researching these people as individuals and sparing some time to think about them.
You can also spend V-J Day learning more about the war. After all, there were many battles that were fought, and there are many documents, textbooks, and research papers on the war and the build-up of it. After all, years and years were spent in battle, and so there is a lot to read about. Enrich your knowledge so that you can have a better understanding of what the men and the women of your country went through during this period.
You can also learn more about the Japanese surrender. The start of the surrender can probably be dated back to the Battle of Okinawa, which started on the 1st of April and ended on the 21st of June in 1945. During this battle, there were more than 117,000 Japanese casualties, and over 82,000 U.S. casualties. It is also estimated that approximately one-fourth of the civilian population of Okinawan died, with a lot of people dying in mass suicides that the Imperial Japanese Army had organized. A month later, on the 26th of July, the Potsdam Declaration was issued. Truman stated the following to Japan:
“Surrender or suffer prompt and utter destruction.”
At the time, the declaration was rejected, but as we all know today, it then came to be accepted a month later.
It is important to remember that V-J Day is about more than just victory, though. We should think about all of the men and women, on both sides of the battle, who lost their lives, as well as the innocent civilians who were caught up in the middle of a horrific war. On V-J Day, we salute you.

Under the CAREFUL PROTECTION of those he loves, he can see the LIGHT that peaks through the end of a long storm.
— his story starts with ;
Being a family of the Sacred Twenty-Eight, it would be expected that Arthur Weasley was born into the usual lap of luxury so many others were but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Even with Cedrella Weasley being from the prominent Black family, her marriage to Septimus brought nothing except her estrangement from the Noble and Ancient House of Black. Instead Arthur’s childhood was spent in a large country cottage located in Ottery St. Catchpole, passed down from generation to generation, fondly named The Burrow. A home that was as comfortable as it was quaint and Arthur wouldn’t have it any other way. He had many memories of dishes washing themselves, kettles singing songs when they were ready to be poured, running through various hallways with BILLIUS WEASLEY [brother] and ALFRED WEASLEY [brother]. Overall, Arthur and his brothers lived the sort of childhood Muggle children would read about in storybooks; surrounded by all sorts of magic but never given any expectations to how he was supposed to live. He could just enjoy the magic for what it was: magic.
The laughter and fun of the Burrow only grew when his cousins came around. With DAISY HOOKUM [cousin] so close in age, it was only natural that Arthur became close with her. Daisy understood him in many ways his other family members could not, she lived in her own fantasy world and Arthur was more than happy to go along with her on the adventure. Daisy’s adventures also tended to include her younger sibling IRIS HOOKUM [cousin], trailing along behind them as Arthur led them through the various fields surrounding his home. During one of these trips outside, the wizard had come to discover a mismatched cube of colors sitting amongst the dirt. Arthur had never known any other families in the area besides the few wizarding families just over the hill, so why such a contraption was just innocently sitting there was beyond him but he carried it with him everywhere. It juggled around in his pocket as he picked up his Hogwarts robes with Daisy, it was his comfort as he stood in line to be sorted at Hogwarts and it was only in the safety of Gryffindor’s common room that he even brought it into the light.
He had been rather surprised when a blonde haired witch sat down next to him and told him it was called a Rubik's Cube. LILIAS ROSMERTA [best friend] gathered it in her hands, fingers shifting the pieces quickly, and finally tossing it back to him with all the sides matching colors. She had been his first friend outside of his cousins and Arthur discovered quickly she was the person who would hold all the answers to his questions. Lilias was a loud and outgoing Muggle Born, having only heard of the wizarding world from her older sister until her Hogwarts letter arrived. It was through Lilias that Arthur became acquainted with KALEB JOHNSON [friend] and COINNEATH MCKINNON [friend]. They became a close knit group and watching Lilias and Kaleb be targeted for their blood, sparked Arthur’s interest in activism. Something that came in between him and his brothers quickly. He found himself getting in trouble for raising his wand towards those who chose to bully students that were believed lesser than them. While his brothers were making plans to join a respectable career path, Arthur was busy arguing with LUCIUS MALFOY [adversary] in the school hallways.
There was an obvious strain in the family as his brothers wrote to him to watch his tongue and hold back on the detentions. Though the strain lessened when Arthur began getting close to MIRAY WEASLEY [wife], back then Molly Polat, another member of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. It was Molly’s love for her friends and family that drew Arthur in; she wore her heart on her sleeve and often found herself putting others' needs above her own. By the time graduation from Hogwarts came around, Arthur and Molly were in a serious relationship and he had accepted Billius’ help in acquiring a job as a researcher at the Ministry of Magic in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. There wasn’t much in the job that was exciting to him, that was until he discovered the overpiling of Muggle Artifacts in the Auror’s Office. Most of the artifacts had been tampered with by dark wizards and handed over to Muggles with the intent of harming them. It was a string of objects leading to Muggle fatalities all around London that brought KINGSLEY SHACKLEBOLT [friend/colleague] into his life along with the Order of the Phoenix.
Arthur had been working with Kingsley to reverse the curses on the objects when the man had approached the topic of the Order. Having heard of Arthur’s activism in school and seeing his spell casting abilities firsthand, Kingsley had thought Arthur would be a perfect member to the team. It came as a shock to him at first, but Arthur quickly agreed to join, anything to help combat the darkness that was slowly taking hold of the world. Shortly after joining up with the Order, Molly had come to him and announced she was pregnant. With Arthur’s eyes opened to what the world was going through and how that would affect their future family’s future, he brought up the idea of an elopement. Despite being surprised, Molly had accepted and they had been married before 1981 was over, welcoming their first child William ‘Bill’ shortly after. But their happiness only lasted so long, Molly’s parents were quick to disown her for marrying a blood traitor. Arthur stood beside her as any good husband should and did what he could to help her through the difficult time. Things did not get better in 1982, despite them discovering they would welcome their second child, Charlie, instead it seemed the chaos was just starting.
The night of the Summer Solstice ball seemed to haunt Arthur, watching Lilias faint in the middle of the party before being transported off to St. Mungo had left an unsettling feeling in his stomach. The feeling only intensified as ALASTOR MOODY [mentor] ordered him and ALICE YEN [friend/colleague] to return to the Fountain of Fair Fortune to protect the prophecy the Order had obtained. Once they stepped foot in the bar, it became known they were vastly outnumbered and unfortunately found themselves in St. Mungo’s as well, the prophecy long gone. While Arthur was happy to have made it out alive to be home with Molly, Bill, and Charlie, he was fearful as Alastor relayed the events that took place at the ball after he had left. Having welcomed their third child, Percy, in the beginning of 1984, Arthur had high hopes that the world would be stepping up to fight against the Dark Lord but it seemed people had gone into hiding for their own safety. He’s spent the last two years alternating his time at home with Molly and the boys and working with the Order to figure out why the Death Eaters have seemingly gone silent. Obviously they’re planning for something big and Arthur is ready to be on the front lines to fight for a better world for his family.
— he is a LEVEL 6 WIZARD & readied for war ;

What is My Friends In Bantry? My WIP
Okay, in light of my recent revelation that I am not doing nearly enough to share my writing, here's a sneak peak.
My Friends In Bantry is a TV show I created in 2015, began developing in 2017, and am currently shopping around for an agent to see about getting it pitched (once the WGA and SAG-Aftra strikes are over of course). So far I’ve submitted it to three screenwriting contests and it still hasn’t placed (oh well, gotta keep trying). It’s a story that is near and dear to my heart and I am anxious to share. For now I can only tell you vaguely what it’s about.
My Friends In Bantry is a multi-cam sitcom. It follows the lives of Cory McBrown, Alex MacDonald, Samantha McBride, John McBride, Dan Smith, and Barty McBrown (shown above by their dream cast, which includes myself, Alfred Enoch, Eliza Bennett, Ryan Cartwright, John Francis Daley, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Cory, Alex, Sam, John, Dan, and Bart, respectively). They navigate life through love, laughter, pain, heartbreak, and even trauma and become each other's family through it all. While the show does cover some pretty heavy topics and storylines, it balances itself with silly shenanigans from every member of the cast.
While I shop around for an agent, you can expect the first back story book- written in first person narration from Cory’s perspective- Cory McBrown: Year 1 on October 2nd, wherever you find you eBooks. I will also continue to share chapters from the subsequent back story books after its release, and possibly even some script excerpts from the show!
Hope you enjoy following my work in progress, and hopefully it won’t be long before MFIB makes it to the small screen!
