Malleus met you when he was a young fae still in the care of Lilia. He hadn’t met many people since his birth so you were a new face

As you both became young adults and entered your NRC days, your relationship had only gotten closer since then. Now, you could never be apart from each other

You knew of Malleus’ reputation and what that led to. You never tolerated any bad-talking of him and always made it a point to “straighten” them out

It has led to many fights in the past but, as time went on, you found it easier to destroy them emotionally than physically. It was much more affective

Besides, now you had two little knights to defend your boyfriend’s honor in his name. Now you didn’t have to get your hands dirty so often anymore

You knew that NRC had many events that it held, especially ones that required dorm leader attendance

You knew of Malleus’ tendency to not go to places if he wasn’t invited and, while you don’t exactly remember how that habit formed, you always made it a point to invite him to things

Dates, parties, meetings where his attendance was required, ceremonies, anything. You either made a little invite and gave it to him or just straight up invited him

You were always super quick to shoot backhanded comments to other students when they see Malleus

“Why did you bring Malleus with you?”

“If I’m gonna be at this party, so is he.”

“B-But, won’t he ruin the mo—“

“I dare you to finish that sentence.”

You always made it a point to place Malleus’ comfort and happiness before your own. This has caused a few small arguments between you—“You’re my boyfriend! I want you to be happy!” “You should be happy to!”—but he can never truly stay mad at you

Speaking of, Malleus also loves doing little things for you. You’re his boyfriend and future husband! There’s no way in hell he isn’t going to do anything nice for you

He also notices your attempts to involve him in school events or holiday parties. He’s been alone a long time and doesn’t quite understand social norms but he’s happy to have you as a crutch

Speaking of events, let’s talk about them! I’m only gonna mention 3

1. Al’ Ab Nariya

He was well away of the invite Lilia received from Kalim. Whether you also got an invite or not is up to you. But Malleus was a bit upset that Lilia would be gone for a few days

To imagine his shock when he “suddenly” gets sick and gives his invite to Malleus. Now he can go to the Scalding Sands with you!

He absolutely loved Kalim & Jamil’s homeland and loved learning about its culture and history. But more importantly, he loved being with you

He loved when you invited him along to your little shopping trips and he loved how you were able to read his wants while in the market. He’s just a little sad that he scared you by wandering off without you. He promises it won’t happen again

2. Halloween

Honest to god, he would not go to the school-wide Halloween party because he thinks he wasn’t invited. It look you a whole day of convincing and a whole night of arts-and-crafts with a few of the dorm leaders just to make invites and reminders

Nevertheless, he enjoyed Halloween with you and loved how different it was from your homeland’s traditions. He loved seeing you dressed like a long and even showing off your more fae-like features for the costume

For the “after party”, he thought the whole mysterious invite would be fun! He just didn’t expect you to tear both the school and the realm of the dead looking for him…even he will admit he’s scared of your wrath. He definitely got scolded for pulling such a stupid trick…but you can never stay mad at him

He enjoyed the Halloween parade, party, and “after party” with you and enjoyed seeing you in costume enjoying yourself

3. Glorious masquerade

When the time came of getting picked for a field trip to Noble Bell College, Malleus was super upset that you got to go and he didn’t. He knows it was a lottery draw but he just doesn’t want to be alone without you

You literally thought about dropping out just to say with him if it was for the invite that the council president sent for the fae prince. Now you both could go!

The trip started off wonderfully. Malleus felt truly welcomed and was glad to enjoy it with you. That was until the betrayal. When he learned that Rollo sent a fake invite, he was livid. That bastard ruined a wonderful moment for him all because of his so-called justice! Even you had a hard time calming him down! Now he had a reason to truly get revenge on Rollo for the fake invites

Time skip! When it was all over, he wanted to just head straight home but you were able to convince him to stay despite all that had happened. Even though he wasn’t officially invited, he was still welcomed nonetheless. Might as well enjoy it to its fullest, right?

Oh dear, Malleus was very lucky to have you as a boyfriend, isn’t he? His little guard dog

JJK- who I think they would main in Genshin (drabble)

Gojo- Barbara or Venti or Childe 💀 he's just silly like that tbh. OR he'll make geto match with him with some silly ship like... zhongli and childe . I feel like that suits them. Geto- Zhongli... like he'll main him first. Then Gojo mains Childe 💀. Al Haitham also fits him. Only whales on characters he likes. WAIT he also def likes Yae Miko. His builds would be god tier honestly

Shoko- Hu Tao... she loves her. She's def the type to only pull for the woman. Doesn't whale but occasionally spends.

Nanami- this was tough bc I don't think he'd actually play 😭 but let's say he was forced. I'm thinking Diluc. He just vibes with him. Plus Diluc is a gentleman and so is Nanami so.

Choso- hear me out... Kokomi. He just loves playing healer 😭 and he thinks she is pretty. That's all. Definitely plays with Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara. And does not spend money.

Yuji- I'm stuck. I feel like he'd have a lot of good DPS built. But mains Bennett.... He also loves Eula for sure. And I think he'd use Itto too.

Megumi- Xiao. Nothing else to say here. He also uses other characters but Xiao is his favorite. Good builds too.

Nobara- Fischl. I think she'd really like her character design and just stick with her. I think she'd also like Ningguang because of her outfits.

Maki- gives me strong Beidou vibes. She definitely likes using anyone with a claymore tho.

okay so i've been thinking about A Ninja's Guide to Gotham and i think i know what Ra's al Ghul's plan is, at least what he (and Zetsu) want to do

the plan to set Kei loose on Konoha didn't go well for Zetsu and Madara, she had her team to help (and the power of foresight) but the gist of the idea could still work, if Zetsu sets up the stage right

Kei has a pretty good grasp on her emotions, but Hayate (specifically, Hayate in danger/hurt Hayate) being her trigger is known to Zetsu. so it makes sense to isolate the two from the rest of their village. drop them into a batshit (ha) crazy city, keep them separated, really pile the stress on Kei and wear her down.

all the while, they've got a Zetsu army cooking for maximum trauma later.

Ra's al Ghul wants to destroy Gotham, and this Zetsu has essentially handed him the trigger for a massive walking bomb, but can only be activated under very specific circumstances. and Kei, as stressed as she is and even with almost losing it a couple of times, has done an excellent job reigning her fury in (thanks Isobu)

AND there's the fear toxin. i imagine they've been adjusting it this whole time to actually work on a Jinchuriki.

i don't think they really want Kei to join them, necessarily (though it might save them a few steps) i think all the attacks serve mostly to increase Kei's stress until she starts breaking.

and then Zetsu was trying to take Hayate. because what would be the one thing to almost certainly break Kei?

idk if this is how it will play out exactly, but i'm guessing this is the gist of Ra's and Zetsu's plan:

Zetsu army attack, with giant Zetsu monster included to spread out the Bats and allies. try and separate Kei from team. keep her focused on the attacks without provoking her yet, but wear her down.

take Hayate, or at least manipulate the field to put him within sight of Kei. kill him where she can clearly see.

use that moment of shock to shoot as many fear toxin darts at her as possible. if she's distracted enough, she might get a few doses. and it doesn't matter much how quickly Isobu burns through the poison, because all they need is that initial ignition of super enhanced terror and trauma for her to explode into a raging Jinchuriki. throw the Zetsu monster back at her, and they take out half of Gotham ripping each other to pieces.

(the Bats and Kei's team hear her agonized beastial screech, even the ones on the other side of the city, and know this is Worst Case Scenario)

this is an excellent narrative strategy for maximum pain and plot drama for Kei and friends, and i can see it coming so close to fruition (if i'm even in the ballpark here, this is all an educated guess)

unfortunately for Ra's and Zetsu, Batman exists. he knows how Ra's operates. once the fear toxin came into play, and Batman listened to Kei talk about her past, i'm pretty sure he could connect those dots.

"Superpowered ninja host of a demon able to level a city, if pressed, and her main trauma trigger is her brother being threatened or harmed in any way. Right. Best keep the brother out of harm's way. If only they could all stay put."

also unfortunate for Ra's and Zetsu, Jason exists. i doubt they were expecting Hayate to adopt Gotham's newest menace, nor for Jason to take to it like a mother goose. Kei might be correct in thinking Hayate is safer with Jason than with her, bc as volatile and explosive as he can be, he's not quite "city-leveling" tier.

as DC stories tend to go, the villains plot usually gets to play out at least most of the way. so maybe Hayate does get hurt at some point, maybe Kei does lose it, but this could be where Jason finally works with the Bats + Team Minato to save the day (and his new little brother....)

anyway, idk how much of this is right, but the pieces have been fitting themselves together in the back of my brain for a while. and if i'm on the money on any of this and you'd rather not post bc spoilers, no worries!! i just wanted to share how much i've been thinking about it, it's on a short list of things i play in my mental movie theater ಠ⁠◡⁠ಠ

I would read fics because she was listed as a background character or halldoll was a bg ship even if I wasn't interested in crygi which was 9 times out of 10 the main story..

I could also get into a halldoll ramble but to not let this get longer than what it is, the few people that would write that ship are top tier, honestly. I do have a list of halldoll fic recs somewhere on this blog but those are the few people that in my opinion, capture jaida well and do her justice.

so, for a long time, i didn't think i liked pasta. it was something we ate on sundays, something to eat that we could all semi-agree on, a conduit for my mom's sauce, which is still my favorite sauce i've ever tasted, even if it's not technically the best. turns out that my parents severely overcook their pasta, which is why i hated it so much. i generally cook my own portion separately from my family's portion when i cook pasta for the group of us now.

i have preferences! a lot of it is sensory. for example, i don't like spaghetti noodles, but i also do not like lo mein.

here we have my top five pasta shapes, definitively, for largely arbitrary reasons:

cavatappi. the ultimate, the only, my one true love, i will buy seventeen boxes of these when they are on sale. especially if it has ridges -- a textural delight! goes well with any sauce! hearty without being overbearing! so pretty! an aesthetic and culinary delight. tens, tens, tens across the board.

elbow macaroni. i'm seven years old at heart and one of my favorite foods is macaroni and cheese, and i think it is in its proper form when it's elbow noodles. i think they're fun! they are rainbow shaped. you can shovel a lot of them into your mouth at once. they hold sauces really well! you can fit a lot of them into a bowl!

tagliatelle. love a long, flat, broad noodle -- ya boi loves a rice noodle equivalent as well. it has that satisfying slurp without being too chewy. works well with a creamy sauce, one of my favorite ways to have pasta. great fresh or dry. i will also accept its lesser cousins, fettuccine and linguine, but i think this type is truly above the pale imitators.

penne. people love to hate on this regular girl, but i think she works wonders, especially if she's got ridges. a solid choice all around -- an al dente wonder! penne vodka is a god tier dish and is a staple at any catering hall in my area, so just from weddings and the solid two years i attended sweet sixteens in the mid aughts, i've probably eaten more penne noodles than any other type of noodle combined.

fusilli. economy pasta. filling. feeds an army. interesting, crunchy aesthetic. the starring pasta of a story i like to tell about my former long term partner's mother, in which i learned she had absolutely no idea what pasta salad was, which taught me so much about why he was the way he was. so it's a noteworthy pasta in my eyes.

ok. ok so we all know the original source material for ed and ling being boy best friends is their life changing field trip to the blood hell dimension when they got stuck in gluttonys stomach and had to eat a shoe. that was top tier bonding time and i genuinely believe they came out of that bosom friends. keep in mind this is also the literal first instance of ed being separated from his brother in years if like, ever, and the kid has straight up never made a friend before outside of his brother and winry bc he is an annoying little prick who doesn’t play well with others. i think ed would have some feelings about that, although i doubt he would have time to examine them at all, since, you know, he’s pretty busy.

every time we see ed and ling together after that, there is an obvious affection there (when ling gives himself up to greed, when ed finds him passed out in the forest after he and al split up again, etc). ed is very familiar with him, and really does seem to care. now! cut to when he joins up with greed (right after he gets a chance to catch up with ling- at this point, i am operating under the pretenses that greed and ling are also boy best friends. they are shown to chat a lot and have their own jokes and bits, it all feels very friendly for a supposed body possession. very eddie brock of him). we see them go off in the woods together with heinkel and mr. gorilla, and then there is a 6 month time skip before we see them again! and my point here is- what the hell were they doing for six months?? theyre not shown to have accomplished Anything off screen- the next time we see them is when they’re hanging around resembool with pinako, am i supposed to believe they were just hanging out and traveling that whole time. six month camping trip with two boys a demon and their bodyguards?

i like to imagine that greed was absolutely not in control that whole time- ling is shown to be fairly good at taking control when he wants to, and i like to think that he and greed establish a pretty friendly rapport in that time, seen later in greeds final fight- they’re buds! they care about each other beyond a means for immortality. and i PERSONALLY just think that it makes for a very fun setting for ed to explore having his first friend(relation)ship with another person. bc again. what were they doing that whole time if not just hanging out and shooting the shit. case closed

How to Feed an Abyss!

What I Liked

"sweet text" ok authornim whatever you say... ok it's actually quite sweet tho. shi yuan and lu tinghan are both very sweet. it's just that being a post-apocalyptic? story, it's inevitably rather bleak although at the same time it's also full of hope. at its core it's still a very warm story of an ordinary love story in a not-so-ordinary setting.

before saying many, many things abt shi yuan and lu tinghan i'd like to make a special mention of the many, many side characters. lu bafang and wang yu, the first people whom shi yuan met and are still good friends with; cheng youwen and qin luoluo and wolfgang and tracy (and xia fang ig); lin yeran and his dead lover and edward and his dead family; general su and his son and the shitty jiang dude and the rest of lu tinghan's squad; alice the AI and her long-lost brother; prof guan whose snacks always get stolen; princess alicia and her mole people; even lu tinghan's absent parents, and so many more... like it's clear that shi yuan learned a lot from them, but they each also have their own stories, and the novel makes it a point that they're not just side characters, they're people trying their best to live in a world fraught with constant dangers, and they make the story just all that more vibrant.

lu tinghan... a very noble soul. he's the hero of humanity but to his sweet little abyss, he's just his human. he is really very good. kind of low quality (lmao) but still very good. top tier ml tbh, super green flag. love how he teases shi yuan, love how he respects shi yuan, love how he's responsible to the people of the alliance and his humbleness, like when he stands vigil when the death knell rings and when he said that no one is irreplaceable, he might meet his end in the abyss but there will be others who also rise to become heroes. love how he's not perfect---he litters (lmao), probably a beast in bed (shi yuan would know), is too cowardly to say a proper goodbye (but tries his best anyway), is tone deaf (but shi yuan still gets him a violin and even says that he should stay at the wall and play bc monsters will def not wanna come close LMAO). he is just so so so good. he can join the ranks of top-grade ml along w lou ying from trashbin boyfriend and dong zheng from i was once a legend.

shi yuan adorable cute sweet the best abyss i love when he purrs whenever lu tinghan rubs his head and how his tail also emotes and how he's good? at acting and how he's traumatized over lu tinhan's littering lmao. how under his seeming obliviousness towards human customs and common sense, he's really an abyss who has lived for thousands and thousands of years and has some wisdom that comes with it. i love his crooked sense of aesthetics and naming sense and how he and lu tinghan dig at each other lmao he can be so savage sometimes. i love how he loves both humanity and monsters, i love his journey through the human settlements and through the wasteland, the empathy he has for both sides, and how his love for lu tinghan evolved from "i want to infect you, the world is cruel, let us live together forever in the mud and bones" to being by lu tinghan's side in his final moments, letting him die with dignity as a human and believing that he will find him again.

breaks my heart when lu tinghan takes him out on an autumn outing to all the fallen cities, revisiting the places full of their memories as their farewell trip, and he said that he understands that lu tinghan is human and that he's been ready to say good-bye from the very first moment they met. this trip actually gave me hi3 graduation trip vibes anw i cried. "this is a story of love, and it will end with love" this also applies to hfa. the core of their love story is that they might not need an eternity, it's the present that's important and they'll make the present as precious as possible, in the limited time that they have.

also ig it was sort of obvious, the foreshadowing in the play "the martyr", how shi yuan in the end did become the god of salvation and lu tinghan is humanity's martyr, but it's also rly poetic in a way, kind of like the inevitable end that was coming anyway, and they accepted it with no regrets, making the most of what little time they had. their relationship was really so sweet that one can't help but really truly want them to be happy.

the real answer to the ever-repeated question of "i like little mushroom, what other novels are similar to it?" that said hfa and lm r only similar to each other on the surface---the fundamental and philosophical concepts they're exploring are completely different but it also makes it incredibly fun to compare and contrast the two! not to say which one is better, but just to explore the themes of humanity, love, and "eternity" that both novels delve into.

im convinced that shi yuan and an zhe could be the best of friends tho

i especially like the contrast of shi yuan being basically god of the monsters but lu tinghan describes him as "he's my lover" and an zhe is just a tiny little mushroom but to lu feng "he is the one who judges me". that juxtaposition of "position of power" relative to the actual being's "power level" is so delicious

also how the summary is a lie and yet not. like when the story got to the part where the summary is n i was like ohhhhh so that's how it is... it's not a lie... but at the same time... the story def isn't as lighthearted as the summary implies

some parts of the story were like a fever dream. the lighthouse and the dolphin. the whole deep dive into abyss no. 1. the ending. their first meeting. the atmosphere rly felt like there's this silvery gauze curtain obscuring one's sight and yet it also makes the scenery more beautiful

tbh i thought the main story ending was perfect as it was but the extras were sweet and explained some things and gave them the happy ending that was def def well-earned.

i cried at the main story ending. it was so beautiful

sometimes i love you is wanting to infect them so they can stay together forever and then understanding that dying as a human is dignity, and also allowing for the infection to happen just so that they can stay together forever.

sometimes i love you is waiting for an indeterminate amount of time for just one person to come, and finding that person who is waiting to give him an infinite amount of love in a finite time.

What I Disliked

the body count 💀💀💀 yes i am aware that it's a post-apocalyptic novel yes i am also weak to sad stories and regrets and unfulfilled promises and a future that is out of reach. it's less that i "dislike it" and more that im rly weak to this sort of stuff.

sort of wish shi yuan met lu tinghan's parents in the extras, i feel like it would've been a nice callback to the illusion lu tinghan experienced

when i was at like the 100 ch count i read this until 4am to finish it and i cried a good 3-4 times intermittently from like 1-4am reading the climax and ending and extras good lord

i made a playlist while reading ch 100-136 lmao some anime ost actually suit the story quite well, esp things like macross and guilty crown/egoist. special mention to eill's finale for the main story ending when lu tinghan and shi yuan reunited. those lyrics...
