Have you heard of the American Indian Movement? Did you know natives had a movement/group in the 70's-80's dedicated to native liberation?
No? It's a part of history they don't teach you in school, but come close and look so I can show you.
Watch this, it's not long I promise. This is Russel Means, a prominent native activists and one of the leaders of AIM. AIM sought to help natives with things like tribal sovereignty, housing, healthcare, and food security.
Here he is testifying to the US government.

The transcript ^
A little excerpt of the end:
"The American Indian people’s right to self-determination is recognized and will be implemented through the following policies:
The American Indian individual shall have the right to choose his or her citizenship and the American Indian nations have the right to choose their level of citizenship and autonomy up to absolute independence;
The American Indian will have their just property rights restored which include rights of easement, access, hunting, fishing, prayer, and water;
The BIA will be abolished with the American Indian tribal members deciding the extent and nature of their governments, if any;
Negotiations will be undertaken to exchange otherwise unclaimed and un-owned federal property for any and all government obligations to the American Indian nations, and to fully -- and to hold fully liable those responsible for any and all damages which have resulted from the resource development on or near our reservation lands including the -- including damages done by careless and inexcusable disposal of uranium mill tailings and other mineral and toxic wastes.
I want to thank you, gentlemen, for inviting me here. It's been a high honor, especially since I'm the only one invited here today to testify that doesn't receive money from the federal government. Also, I want to make -- I was introduced as a former founder and leader of American Indian movement to the tribal chairwoman that you have here, a former associates for the American Indian Movement back in the days when we were gross militants and so I just wanted to let you in on that, that the American Indian Movement is a very proud continuing part of American Indian Society.
Thank you."

"The American Indian Movement remains based in Minneapolis with several branches nationwide. The organization prides itself on fighting for the rights of Native peoples outlined in treaties and helping to preserve indigenous traditions and spiritual practices. The organization also has fought for the interests of aboriginal peoples in Canada, Latin America and worldwide. “At the heart of AIM is deep spirituality and a belief in the connectedness of all Indian people,” the group states on its website."

Do you think Kalim’s unique magic has healing properties or at least promotes growth in plants? In chapter 4 the rain made everyone feel better(though I imagine getting a drink of water after THAT work out would be good either way) and after a few days the oasis grew back. I know after rain fall in a desert plant life grows back, it just seemed like Kalim’s magic made it grow faster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the game itself, Kalim's unique magic, Oasis Maker, is described as being able to produce a large amount of water using only a miniscule amount of magic. Additionally, as noted by both Kalim and Grim, the water that he conjures is the most pure and delicious around.
There are no other explicit mentions of additional effects or properties, but I think the idea of Kalim's water having the power to heal is a neat concept. I'm not going to count the act of drinking the water since these homies just marched through a desert so any hydration would feel like a godsend). However, the actual physical properties of the water could be such that it provides more relief over normal water. For example, water that has been enhanced with electrolytes can replace some of the minerals that have been lost via sweating excessively. Grim also comments on the temperature of the water being perfect--not too cold, not too warm.
The example brought up of the oasis becoming lush again is really interesting! I believe that Kalim casts his UM once there (to refresh the students), but the oasis is still dried out the second time Scarabia comes to the oasis. The third and final time they pay the oasis a visit is at the very end of the episode, and the place has suddenly become lush and full of water again. Since the events of episode 4 take place over what is winter break, this means that it took about a week or a little over a week for the oasis to be restored. I actually don't know if this is possible in real life or if that's a realistic recovery time 💦 When I looked it up, Google tells me that it usually takes a few weeks to a month minimum to see change in a dehydrated plant. If we're using that as a point of comparison then yeah, the oasis blessed with Kalim's UM water did indeed experience a speedy restoration to its former glory. This could imply that Oasis Maker water has other benefits that aren't clearly exposited in the narrative or the dialogue.
What I find really cool about this idea is that it seems plausible enough given the lore and the attitudes of the characters surrounding Kalim's magic. Kalim himself doesn't think of it as a big deal; he says that maybe it would have been really useful back in the old days before potable drinking water was readily avaliable in arid areas, but nowadays it's pretty useless with how accessible water is. (Think of Silk City's canals and modern irrigation system!) However, Azul points out to Kalim that he's casually overlooking the true power he has. The game kind of just goes for a joke about Azul's greed (as he laments how profitable Oasis Maker could be), but in a sense, Azul's right. Kalim can do so much more with his abilities, it's just that he doesn't know how to really apply them and he underestimates what he can do.
Let's think of it like this: sure, the Scalding Sands are fine with their water. But you know who isn't? The Afterglow Savanna. The people there are pretty opposed to anything that interferes with their philosophy of living in harmony with nature; some of them live on well water which may not be entirely safe all the time--but with Oasis Maker, Kalim could literally make it rain clean, safe to drink water for all their needs with just a smidgen of magic. Even better, because the water comes down like natural rain would, it doesn't harm nature (and in the case where his water does have healing properties, it would actually promote the growth of plants). In other contexts, Kalim's UM could do immense good. (My thought is that perhaps since Kalim grew up so privileged, he takes some things for granted and therefore doesn't think too much in depth about things outside of his immediate environment or people who are lacking what he already has an abundance of?)
Kalim seems to adopt a somewhat flippant attitude towards his UM; he doesn't hate it or anything, but he definitely talks it down. He doesn't really seem to think it's useful or has large applications outside of reenergizing his friends-and for him, that's enough! Kalim's happiest when others are happy, and they can all sing and dance together, just like the incantation to his UM says. It's possible, then, that he didn't bother experimenting with Oasis Maker to determine its other properties outside of just producing nice water (which would sort of explain why Kalim doesn't see its broader uses, but a big brain like Azul, who is far more results oriented, can).
ADDENDUM: Interesting detail on Dorm Uniform Kalim; with M3 (magic 3) that comes with his third uncap, he has a healing water spell.

you know how dragons like to eat gems/shiny things? maybe the minerals make them gain fast.....or theres some object vore ideas to be had there
maybe a mage/unicorn/dragon bf who can produce all the gems he would want. idk
Tumblr media
The dragon was, not by natural design but rather through human intervention, a large and lazy thing.
It started when, back in the dragon's more muscular days, it had saved the kingdom's princess from kidnappers. The king had sent a nice thank you gift, and coincidentally that year the harvest was exceptionally good.
Thus, the superstitious humans decided the more they offered to the dragon the better their kingdom would be. Offerings rolled in: gold, jewels, but mainly livestock. As the dragon's hoard grew, so did its body, until its belly scraped the ground as it waddled and it lost the ability to fly.
Of course, that would soon seem so small in comparison.
"We are proud to offer ten cows, the finest from the local farms!"
The dragon regarded the diplomat with boredom, laying atop a pile of treasure and watching as the profession of offerings was brought in.
"We hope you enjoy them, and see fit to-" the diplomat was cut off by crunching bone and gulping as the dragon made short work of the cows. The most exercise it got these days was lowering its head to snap up dinner.
"Um… well… and the king also sends his mage with a gift!" The diplomat stood aside, allowing a thin man with thick brown hair and a nervous demeanor to step up.
"Um, my gift, your gloriousness…" he said. "Is magic."
"I have plenty of my own magic," the dragon said dismissively.
"Oh, no, I mean the gift is enchanted not-" the mage cleared his throat and lifted up a gleaming gem.
Or rather, several gems, round and purple, gathered together to appear like a bunch of grapes, with emerald leaves.
"Edible treasure," he said. "Because you've grown too heavy to hunt-"
The dragon growled a little, eyes narrowing.
The mage paled. "Um, well- you see- I thought it might make things easier for you if you had a way to make sure you never go hungry." The dragon picked up the gems as the mage continued to explain, and waved the diplomat off, wanting to be alone with this clever and considerate gift giver.
"One gem alone is enough to fill your stomach complet-" the mage paled again as the dragon opened its maw and dropped the whole bunch down its gullet. "Oh… oh no um… that's too much-"
The dragon's stomach gurgled and groaned before starting to rapidly expand.
The dragon let out a surprised sound as its belly swelled, its legs grew thicker and heavier as did its tail. Chins multiplied and its neck thickened so fat it could barely move its head up and down anymore.
At the end, its feet barely touched the ground, its legs pushed wide by the enormous squishy gut that threatened to lift the dragon entirely off the ground. Its wings, which had already been useless at its former weight, looked comically small now.
The mage stared with wide eyes as the dragon struggled with its new weight.
"I'm sorry! I should have warned you faster!" He threw himself into a bow on the ground, only to be startled as he was lifted back up to his feet.
"How soon can you make more?" The dragon asked, flopping onto its side and rubbing its belly happily. "I've never felt so full… I'm going to take a nap, and you're going to enchant the treasure in this cave."
"All of it?" The mage's heart pounded as he looked around at all the treasure.
"All of it." The dragon gave the mage a look that was either lustful or possessive, and honestly the mage liked either option a whole lot.

OC Introduction
Tagged by @silurisanguine from the Coemancer Crew - thank you!
Introducing: Kanan McCarthy
Tumblr media
Fandom: Starfield
Role: Spacefarer, Captain
Basics
Full Name: Kanan McCarthy
Nicknames: Cowpoke, Kane (really only ever referred to as such by their twin sister)
Pronouns: They/them, not strict on pronouns though.
Sexuality: Pansexual
Occupation and Titles: Freestar Militia Infantry (formerly), Shaw Gang Outlaw (formerly), Argos Extractors Miner (formerly), Smuggler and general criminal (currently), Constellation Member (currently)
Birthday and Age: At the beginning of the game (May 7th, 2330) Kanan is 37. They turn 38 shortly after. They were born on May 27th, 2292 in Akila City.
Physical Description: Kanan stands at exactly six feet tall (about 183 cm). They are physically active and as such have a sort of athletic build.
Clothing Style: Kanan wears masculine leaning clothing and mostly sticks to more "wild west" themed apparel. They are often seen in their signature red poncho and cowboy hat.
Tumblr media
Background
As I don't want to spoil things, I'll keep this vague. Kanan was born and raised on Akila in Freestar space. Them and their family lived on the McCarthy Homestead just outside Akila City walls.
Kanan took part in the Colony War at a young age, having gotten caught up in the war propaganda. As such, they lied about their age in order to fight for the Freestar Collective. The Colony War took a huge toll on both Kanan and the McCarthy family as a whole.
Kanan went to college after the war and earned a bachelor's degree in engineering, having majored in engineering and minored in astronomy. They fell into a life of crime afterward, having joined the Shaw Gang for some time and then branching out on their own.
As seen in my fic titled The Man in Red, Kanan joined Argos Extractors about a year before the story of Starfield after encountering an odd bounty hunter in the Red Mile who wanted them alive.
They joined Constellation after encountering the Artifact on Vectera, and their story is currently being written in my fic titled Event Horizon.
Combat and Skills
Preferred fighting style: Kanan prefers mid to close range combat with guns, though they are not against getting very close and engaging in close quarters combat with melee weapons or hand-to-hand.
Favorite Weapon(s): Kanan carries a modified razorback revolver named "Penumbra." Kanan also carries around and prefers shotguns, but also keeps a sniper rifle handy as well as small blades.
Special Skills: Like any wild west gunslinger, Kanan is highly skilled at using pistols. They also use Starborn abilities (although they are not Starborn themself). Kanan is charismatic and knows just the right buttons to push when it comes to enemies, but also which words to choose when trying to de-escalate a situation. As they went to college for engineering, Kanan is well versed in various means of engineering, which includes spaceship building and design, outpost construction, weapon handling and management, and spacesuit technology. They are an excellent pilot as well, capable of coming out on top in even the most dangerous dogfights.
Tumblr media
Relationships
Family: Kanan's father is James McCarthy, a former Freestar Ranger and former member of the First Cavalry mech division. Their mother is Charlotte McCarthy, a scientist and astronomer. They had an older brother named Owen who was also apart of the First Cavalry mech division during the Colony War. He was killed in the later years of the Battle of Niira. Lastly, Kanan is a twin; their twin sister is named Senya, a ronin by trade who currently lives with and takes care of their father at the McCarthy Homestead.
Kanan would later consider Constellation as their own "found family."
Love interest: Sarah Morgan. Before Sarah, Kanan rarely ever had any serious relationships out of fear of commitment. Instead, they often wandered from lover to lover and held many "friends with benefits" type relationships. One night stands are not uncommon for Kanan, though their more promiscuous behavior settles down once they end up in a serious relationship with Sarah.
Best Friend(s): Kanan is very close with all the members of Constellation, but finds a close friendship in both Andreja and Matteo.
Personality
Positive traits: Passionate, caring, ambitious, loyal
Negative traits: Stubborn, tends to isolate, reckless, greedy
Likes: Nature, animals, astronomy, books, Old Earth relics, exploration
Dislikes: Most governments and politicians, corruption, spacers, high-horse attitudes, cops, Neon
Fears: Being lonely forever, losing their family (both found and blood family), losing those they care about, another war
Guilty Pleasure(s): Smutty novels, Old Earth spaghetti western movies, whiskey
Hobbies: Playing guitar, exploring, reading, collecting Old Earth trinkets and relics, listening to music, cleaning weapons and armor, building spaceships, and somehow managing to herd ashta.

Emo RD Rambles 3: Patient Playlist
Welcome back to Emo Cannot Write For Shit So You All Get His Rambles. With an additional thing at the end winkwink. This is really really long so let's get cracking.
Today's concept: Ian and Ada approach the idea of creating a Patient Radio - a playlist made of the long term patient's favourites songs to 'maximise comfort'.
As a beta for the Radio, they leave a sheet of paper in the connecting hallway for patients to list suggestions of their preferred music, around three or four songs maximum. Some already have ideas in mind, while others struggle.
This is just a silly idea I had when wondering what type of music the main RD cast listens to; excluding the songs they're actually involved in. This also created some funny writing prompts that I may use for a small comedic anthology. For example:
Hailey is the first person to write anything down: and she's pretty basic (sorry). Her style is very mainstream, involving those pop songs you'd hear on the radio. From there, a few folks follow, with varying genres and tastes. The next day, however, more folks have added some ideas, including Logan. You can tell Logan has visited - because there is now a messy heart drawn next to Hailey's suggestions.
Also, Logan suggests similar stuff to Hailey, with the addition of maybe an anime opening or two.
Cole... suggests his own music. For the sake of both his ego, and the declining state of the patients, he's given a stern 'no'. Of course, it's Cole, so he angrily scribbles out his suggestions and leaves the paper be. He's surprised when 'Unreachable' comes on via the Patient Radio - and, sure enough, someone's written it down past his scribbling. More specifically, Samurai. He even signed it! (By that, I mean the writing is just "Unreachable- Cole Brew (SAMURAI)". All of Samurai's suggestions are signed this way.)
Insomniac writes down only one suggestion: a traditional Japanese folk song (or 'hōgaku'). This would be fine - if he wrote the song's title in Romaji. Instead, the song is written in pure, specific kanji characters.
Ada returns to Ian come the night with a new version of the paper: "Hey, so, uh- I got the paper back today and there's some new stuff from the swordsmen. Any idea what this is?" Ian turns, "Hah?" before seeing the kanji. There's a slight pause before he just casually goes, "Oh! This is (insert Japanese title here)! That's easy, I'll type it up." Ada learns that Ian learnt how to read kanji entirely just for the songs he listens to that are in Japanese.
Oh yeah: the moment this song plays on the radio, the Insomniac falls asleep. Hell, he sleeps like a baby. Unfortunately, they can't play it on loop, but now they know he appreciates a lil' lullaby.
Speaking of Ian and Ada, they decide to add some of their own songs to the mix (Ian mostly - he felt it was a little unfair that the patients get to listen to banger tunes). Ian adds quite a variety, but we cannot ignore the fact he adds maybe one or two vocaloid songs.
Ada, unfortunately, is a little embarrassed of her status as a former theatre kid, still musical lover. She, instead, uses a few common songs from the radio to add to the list. Ian convinces her, after a little while, to add a really popular song from her favourite musical. I do not know what musical this is.
There's a surprising amount of patients that add jazz to the radio, or at least music from the 1950 to 1980's era. For one, the Stevensons' accidentally add the same song to the list twice, given Mr. Stevenson can't read his wife's handwriting that well anymore (I'll elaborate on why later). This also just so happens to be a song that played in their wedding. They have a ball dancing to it.
Additionally, the Miner also includes a bit of Rock 'n' Roll or otherwise jazz into his suggestions. They're very old for the 30-something nut, but it adds up. He also, thanks to Cole, includes a little chiptune.
Hugh somehow adds the tutorial theme. You know, the tutorial song from Rhythm Doctor. Nobody recognises the title, or the artist, but everyone in the ward has a mutual moment of "I swear I've heard this before". Hugh doesn't comment.
There's a slight cultural shift once Insomniac includes his traditional tune. It's not the only Non-English hit, and Ian/Logan do add a couple of Japanese songs to the pile.
In Nicole's case, she ends up not sure what to suggest, but still wanting to take part. So, she ends up adding a Chinese pop song, quote: "I don't know any Chinese myself, but my mom would put this on a lot, and I didn't have anything else that'd be good for a hospital radio."
Lucky adds two jazz, and a rock song to the radio. The biggest issue is that he originally aimed to add a Spanish song from his childhood, but got caught in his own head, scribbling it out halfway. The good thing? Miner is able to read bits and pieces, writing what he could make out - angering Lucky into writing the full title. He jumps when it plays on the radio days later.
I believe that's everything I had listed. Thanks to RDL for allowing me to compile all of my thoughts before adding them here, as these are now far more conjoined.
Oh, right! The bonus thing! Considering the song suggestions were taken on a piece of lined paper, I thought it would be fun to visualise what I believe the main casts' handwriting would look like:
Tumblr media
If you have any thoughts/additions you want to make, you have full reign to send me asks/reblog this with whatever you like. Have a good one, lads - EMO

Northumbria Headcanon Masterpost
Tumblr media
The artwork used was created by @ladybrainrot
Continuing on with my master posts for my portrayals of different characters, I’ve decided the next one would be for my OC portrayal of Northumbria. Since I did one of these for Scotland, I’ve been wanting to create another one, but I’ve not known which character to choose. Bria just happens to be my brainrot atm, though she’s not as developed as I thought.
Northumbria is an old kingdom that consisted of modern day northern England, and southern Scotland, through the 600s-900s. In my eyes, Northumbria stayed alive and in modern day represents the north of England- the cultural and the class difference. With that in mind, and also noting that I am not a big history fan, please do be weary that many choices made take into account modern day northern England, rather than the former kingdom of Northumbria itself. This is also just my take, as someone from the north of England. I am also aware that she is not 100% accurate- Bria originally started out as a 2p nyo England over four years ago, but as I grew up, I decided to revamp her a little, and she became my oc portrayal of Northumbria. Keep in mind, had I originally set out to make a northern England oc, not a 2p nyo England, she would probably be quite different than she is today.
PHYSICAL
Northumbria’s hair is a mousy brown colour, and it lies somewhere between blonde and brunette. This was done intentionally to show her similarities to both Scotland and to England, and how she’s the awkward space in between the two of them.
When left down, her hair reaches down to her mid back, but it’s frequently worn up to keep it out of her face.
Bushy eyebrows runs in the family, and she didn’t manage to escape this gene either.
Northumbria has softer, though not rounded, features. She has droopy/downturned eyes, a heart face shape, and a button nose.
She has dimples in her cheeks, which represent the Yorkshire Dales, and a few freckles which represent the Lake District
She is one of the shortest of her siblings, standing at 5’3 or about 160cm
Bria is chubby, with a pear body shape. A lot of her weight is in her stomach and waist, and she has a smaller top half.
Northumbria’s breasts represent the Pennines, a mountain range which runs through the centre of Northern England. The mountains are, objectively, not that big.
Northumbria has very bad hay fever, and she takes tablets every spring and summer, but they don’t do much for help. She loves the outside, though, and thinks a runny nose and itchy eyes are worth it to be out in the countryside.
She has problems with her lungs from spending so many years of her life working as a coal miner, she uses an inhaler to help her.
She doesn’t wear make up very often, only if she’s going out or if attending a formal event- and she’s not very good at it! Mostly, she just hasn’t had much practice, and finds most days she can’t be bothered with it.
Despite this, Northumbria is incredibly skilled with plaits and buns! Her hair is most often seen in just a simple three strand plait for simplicity, but she can do some beautiful techniques if she wants to.
She has a pink rose necklace which she wears all the time. It represents the red rose of Lancashire and the white rose of Yorkshire. Normally, these two rose come together to create the “Tudor Rose”, but for a little necklace, a pink rose will do fine.
Speaking of roses, she likes to smell like them! She always buys rose scented perfumes. It’s fair to say, these flowers mean a lot to her.
As well as her rose necklace, you will almost always see Northumbria wearing a flat cap. She owns a dark green one, but also a brown one. She takes a lot of pride in these hats.
PERSONALITY
Out of her and Arthur, Northumbria is definitely the friendlier, more extroverted one. If she sees someone she knows on the street, she will stop and say hi, have a little chat to them, before heading off on her way. Moments like this brighten her day.
Even if you are not yet friends, she prides herself as being someone you can stop and talk to, if you need it. She’s also not shy to striking up a conversation with someone new. She will talk to you like you know one another, even during small talk.
She takes the position of the mum friend, and she can be extremely comforting for when you’re upset. Guaranteed, if knock on the door and ask to talk, she’ll hurry you inside, make you some tea, and if you’re lucky, she’ll make you her favourite comfort food. She’ll always be sure to provide a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear, words of encouragement, and some advice once you’re feeling better.
Bria is a very loyal person, especially to those she considers herself closest with. She will stay by the side of those she loves through no matter what. This is one of the reasons she has never seriously considered trying to gain independence.
However, she can also be very indecisive, she can change her mind and stance pretty frequently. This meeting her loyal nature can be conflicting sometimes. She finds constantly switching between being more loyal to England, and being more loyal to Scotland (who she’s (debatably) closer to.)
Northumbria is incredibly passionate, but her passion can come out quite aggressive. You can notice a significant flip from her usual calmer, motherly personality, to her yelling and shouting curse words. It can be quite intimidating if you’re not used to it.
Selfishness is probably Bria’s worst trait. She will always think about herself and her own situation first, and sometimes might never even consider someone else’s perspective on things. This can and has lead to her stabbing people in the back to try and better herself if she gets desperate enough (sorry Wales.)
She regularly feels ignored and overlooked, mainly by England, but she hasn’t figured out how to make herself be taken seriously by others, so no matter how much she shouts, nothing much will change.
Because of this, she has an intense desire to prove herself. She had a tendency to be vocal and brag about anything important or anyone successful who comes from the north of England. It can seem like she believes she’s superior to Arthur, but it’s more a desire to prove herself to be an equal. That, and just a good amount of pride and patriotism.
Northumbria has a hard time letting go of the past. She struggles to move on, now matter how far away it was. She still clings to her old coal mining job especially to define her identity. She won’t stop there. She’ll go back as far as the Viking age if she has to.
She’s incredibly humble and modest, which means she sometimes dismisses the bad things that have happened to her in the past, choosing to focus on the positives. This can give her a tainted view of her own history, and she looks back on many things with a far more positive outlook, her nostalgia can blind her to the hardships she faced in the past.
Northumbria likes to credit herself as being a realist, and being fairly down to earth. She is not blinded to current situations from nostalgia. And, whilst she finds some fantastical stuff appealing, she is not blinded to the reality of the world and the position she’s in.
She can be a bit of a hopeless romantic, but not in the sense that she has an unrealistic expectation of love. She’s more just looking for someone to see her, understand her, and settle down with her as her partner. She loves the idea of love, but she’s also aware of what it does and doesn’t actually look like.
Bria heavily values politeness and manners. A simple please and thank you never cost anyone anything, she finds it very rude and demanding to not use them, and she will remind her family if they forget!
She holds a lot of respect for people who are honest and who speak their mind. She doesn’t like when she feels people try and hide how they feel about something. She may be a bit shocked sometimes at bluntness, but eventually she’ll come round and admire the honesty. She makes sure to tell people who are like this that she appreciates it.
HOBBIES & INTERESTS
Northumbria loves to go out on walk around the countryside, however, given her lungs she has to really pace herself and try not to go too fast. She also avoids hikes that are going to be too challenging for her. But still, nothing will stop her from getting outside.
She enjoys cycling too, but again, has to pace herself and try not to do anything that exceeds her limits.
Whilst she doesn’t play, rugby is her favourite sport by a mile! She is extremely passionate about it, and she gets far too into the games. She also insists that league is the better, and rougher version. Her entire family disagrees.
Something she and her family can agree on, is a strong love for music. Bria’s preferred taste is pop music, she especially loves boy bands and girl groups. She is the world’s biggest Take That fan.
She actually used to play an instrument herself! The Northumbrian pipes, a smaller (and quieter) variant of bagpipes that come from the north of England. She and Scotland used to play together, but she gave it up in the 19th century, and hasn’t picked them back up since.
Whilst Northumbria is no top-quality chef, she’s actually very good at warm, comforting foods to fill you up. Her favourite to make is mince and dumplings- which also happens to be her comfort food- but she also makes a good shepherd’s pie or cottage pie. She also makes a brilliant yorkshire pudding.
She is a savoury girl all the way! Too much sweet stuff can make her feel ill. She is a devout fan of greggs.
She is not much of a baker herself, however, she does love to treat herself to a baked pastry or pasty. She especially loves Cornish pastries, and when her old sister, Cornwall, bakes them herself, she will never be able to resist them.
Whilst she no longer works as a farmer, she did used to, and she found a love for gardening from it. She grows vegetables and flowers, and gifts any spares that she had no need for to one of her siblings. Her garden is not large by any means, but it is very pretty.
Much like the rest of her siblings, Northumbria enjoys a night out on the town, venturing into pubs. She has a bias towards Irish bars especially, due to the surplus of them in Liverpool thanks to mass Irish immigration.
She loves reading, and she has a massive passion for Beatrix Potter and her novels. She has original copies of all of them on her shelf, as well as other pieces of merchandise like fridge magnets or garden ornaments.
Northumbria has a knack for poetry, especially nature themed poetry. Influenced by the amount of poets that come from or moved to the Lake District.
She attends the Viking Festival that takes place in York every year.
She enjoys watching soap operas, her favourites being Emmerdale and Coronation Street- which she keeps up with regularly. She gets overly invested in the storylines sometimes. Though, she’s aware they’re not the best quality.
Northumbria has some skill regarding sewing. She can fix a button or a zip on a dress, but she’s not skilled enough to be making her own clothes. She just repairs old ones.
However, she is very skilled at knitting. From the 1980s-2005, the world’s fastest knitter was a woman from the north of England. Northumbria herself is pretty fast!
LIFESTYLE
Northumbria uses the human name Ivory Ailith Kirkland, with Ivy or Ives as her nickname. I would’ve used a Cumbrian name, but alas with the language being extinct, there’s no websites online.
She has two pet hedgehogs who run around her house and her garden, they’re called Charlotte and Peach.
Ivory currently resides in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and she has the thickest geordie accent you’ll ever hear, although for many years of her life she lived in York. The city is still one of her favourites, and it’s very special to her, but she now only visits once a year.
Despite this, she considers the Lakes the place where her heart lives. She tries to visit at least once or twice a year.
Thick as her accent is, it’s really flexible. It changes quickly, if she talks to someone from a different area for even an hour she accidentally starts to mimic their speech. If she spends a week somewhere, she could probably pass as a native.
Northumbria speaks English, British Sign Language, French and Scots. She used to speak Cumbrian, Latin and old Norse. The latter two are long gone and forgotten, but she’s still convinced if someone spoke Cumbrian to her, it would come flooding back. Despite her flexible accent, she’s never been the great at studying new languages. They fly right over her head! She is, however, extremely prone to picking up new slang words upon meeting someone, even if she’s never heard said words before.
Since Ivory is not recognised as a country, nor is she self-reliant, she doesn’t actually have much nation work to do- if any at all! She travels down to Manchester if there is anything in the north she is needed for, and sometimes she will step in as England for Arthur is needed. Generally though, she has a lot of time to herself to explore the north.
She technically lives in a shared house in london, too, with the rest of her siblings (besides Ireland), but she doesn’t like it down there and isn’t needed there often at all.
Ivory’s wardrobe is simple, but still pretty. She prefers more earthy tones like greens and browns, but she’s never shy to a floral detail. Her clothes are comfortable and easy to move around in- generally. She’s a big fan of pinafores, simple tops and t-shirts, and cardigans. You’ll rarely ever find her in anything slim fitting.
Deep down, Ivory longs simply for a life of comfort. And, even though she’s a morning person, and she loves her morning walks, her favourite part of the day is sitting down on the sofa with a cup of tea in the evenings.
However, due to her longing for comfort, she’s developed a fear of the unknown. She doesn’t like stepping outside of her comfort zone if she doesn’t absolutely have to, and even then she may try and ignore it as much as she can.
She has a complicated relationship with the subject of potential independence. Her fear of the unknown prevents her from taking the idea seriously, even if she’s not comfortable with the current situation- and is constantly complaining about how ignored she feels and how she wants better. She identifies as northern before she does as English, and she is always making a point that she has way more in common with Scotland than with the south, but to her, complete independence is something she is too afraid to take seriously. It’s easier to joke about, which she has no problems doing.
Whilst Bria is pretty well-off now, she’s had some very low points financially in the past, and has gotten used to being poorer one out of her and Arthur. As a result, she is extremely money conscious. She is constant scouting for discounts, trying to get things at the lowest possible price, and checking her bank account after every single thing she buys. She gets nervous whenever she has to buy something that’s a bit more expensive than she’d like. She might miss out on fun opportunities with other people if she feels the cost will be too high.
This means that even through the winter, she’ll try her best to save as much money on heating and on electricity as possible. If it’s cold, you don’t turn on the heating, you put a blanket over you. If it’s dark, you can turn on some smaller lights, but by no means can you turn on the big one!
Due to her budgeting, she can get extremely defensive about her choice to always go cheap. If someone try tell her that she doesn’t need to be counting every penny anymore, that she can let loose a bit and can now afford nicer things, they can expect a whole lecture from her about how money doesn’t grow on trees, and it’s always good to have a bit of extra cash on you.
Ive is a surprise visitor, and is always dropping in on her family members unannounced, even though they all live hours away from her. It really can annoy her siblings, and you’ll find them complaining, “I wish she’d just let me know first.”
She is a heavy meat eater, and she will pour thick & heavy gravy over every meal she has until it’s swimming in it. Despite her fondness for gardening, she does not eat nearly enough vegetables.
Out of all of her siblings, she is the most non-religious, and at this point her relationship with her faith is very weak. She is the only sibling who doesn’t have a mythical creature who resides with her, and she feels she doesn’t see them as often as she used to do when she’s out and about. She still sees her brothers’ friends, like flying mint bunny for example, when visiting them, but outside of that they don’t really cross her mind much at all.

Minecraft!Reader in a SAGAU World: Introducing the Server!
[Fun fact!: They're all based off old Minecraft skins of mine and a few from former servers that I've joined in the past
Also most of these names came out of a generator since I could not for the life of me, think anything up]
KakuriPierrot (Admin)
- Prefers either Uri or Pierrot as a nickname
- Admin of the Server and father figure to everyone
- The kind of guy who would pull up to a McDonald's drive thru and order himself a single black coffee
- But then he'd loop back and let the kids order what they want because he'd feel guilty
- Exceptional redstoner, exceptional builder, disaster when playing survival on his own
- He's decent at PVP though
- Very protective of server members, to the point where he can be a bit overbearing (he means well though)
- Has a poker face but when the emotions hit him, he is an open book
- He is the calm and sensible type but can also be an airhead at times
Interrorgator
- Prefers to be called Gator as a nickname
- Redstone expert of the server
- They are the equivalent of DocM77 when it comes to both redstone and breaking Minecraft as a whole
- Very dramatic in personality and are kind of a smartass at times
- Godly in redstone, decent in building, decent in Survival (whether on his own or in multiplayer) and they're good at PVP, mainly one on one
- The kind of person who complains when you ask for help but then they go above and beyond to help you with whatever issue you may have
- Undeniably soft for their friends and has no shame when admitting it
257Colors
- Prefers to be called Lory, Seven or Rihanna
- Expert Builder who makes large builds and calls it a 'starter base' (Just imagine Boatem Scar or Pearl, that's the kind of builder she is)
- Incorporates an ungodly amount of pastel colors into her builds, regardless of the theme she uses
- She's hyper and bubbly but she's got some dark and cynical humor
- Short Queen!
- Expert Builder, Terrible Redstoner, decent in Survival as well as PvP
- She's also an expert in potion making and often makes trips to the Nether for Blazerods
LinkinChain
- Prefers Link as nickname
- Explorer and Miner of the group
- He is homeless and doesn't seem too eager to make his own base so he'll bunk with whoever is available
- He will pay you back with anything you'd like within the mines or what he obtained from his constant wanderings
- Metals like iron, copper or gold? You'll find a chest in your kitchen that filled with stacks of the raw metals. Need Diamonds or Emeralds? He pops into your line of sight, hands several Diamonds or Emeralds to you before he disappears again
- He is just gone almost the entire time he's on the server, often disappearing for days or weeks before reappearing again without warning
- The ghost of the server
- An expert in PvP, whether one on one or by group, bad redstoner, Decent Builder (or so he claims) and an amazing Survivalist, both in solo and multiplayer worlds
Realmvanquish
- Prefers Vanny or just Van as a nickname
- Explorer and Builder, also the kind who makes big builds and claims it to be her starter base but then she never makes another build ever again
- Disappears frequently to explore but will stick around to make farms and such
- She also goes out of her way to 'beautify' the area around other people's builds (with permission, of course)
- Has a villager farm set up for most of her materials as well as a few autofarms for things she can't get through villagers
- Is not afraid to get her hands dirty and will work hard as long as the end goal is worth it, or if it's hilarious enough, really depends on the mood
- Decent Redstoner, Pro Builder but is just very lazy, Decent Survivalist and a Decent PVPer, mainly in groups but can hold her own if one on one
- Prefers to use long ranged weapons like crossbows, bows and tridents rather than close ranged weapons
Mind_Ctrl
- Prefers Mind or Cat as a nickname
- An all rounder and a casual player, almost never makes any major projects but is more than happy to join other projects
- Is mostly here to vibe and shall vibe alongside you
- Has like three to five dogs and would often take them with them whenever they go somewhere that's bound to have mobs
- The resident prankster, will target anyone and everyone but if his pranks cause any damage, don't worry! They'll help out with the cleaning process and will replace anything lost.... Most of the time at least..
- Good Builder, Good Redstoner and amazing Survivalist. He can survive just about anywhere as long as he has a tree and some access to water
- Decent PvPer who prefers to set up traps instead of doing face to face confrontations
PeppermintP
- Prefers Pepper or Pat as a nickname, he'd still respond if you call him just about anything as long as it's from his original gamer tag
- PVP expert and bloodthirsty psycho who mastered redstone for the sake of causing even more conflict via traps
- Nothing stays alive when he's within the vicinity with the exception if his servermates make it clear that he can't kill them
- Goes hunting for Woodland mansions a lot for the loot so they're stacked when it comes to Notch Apples or Totems
- He is THE Scary Dog Privilege™
- Feral and will snap at anyone who approaches him but is as sweet as pie with their servermates
- Pro PVPer, Pro Redstoner (mostly for traps and such), Pro Survivalist, Decent Builder
- They have mastered the use of any weapon and miscellaneous items that can kill if used right
- Very fond of TNT Traps and will use it at any time he can

Following up on that take about TFP Megatron, this is something I’ve wanted to talk about for awhile. When Optimus became amnesiac after the battle with Unicron and went back to Orion Pax, did anyone else notice the strange, tenderness and delicateness of their relationship? Especially with Megatron being so uncharacteristically patient with Orion?
it could be Megatron just manipulating Orion or me reaching as a MegOP shipper, but I think when Orion came back, so did Megatron’s feelings for him.
Megatron hates Optimus prime, but he loves Orion Pax. And I think if he could, he’d get rid of the former and keep the latter.
What’s your take?
I think it can swing one way or the other or even both. Megatronus/D-16 and Orion Pax had forged an alliance among the lower classes and like-minded individuals to bring change to the dying and oppressive state of the Golden Age of Cybertron.
The Decepticons were dangerous. Not in violent acts, but what they represented. Fundamental and irreversible change to the status quo of Functionism. That mecha should not be corralled and defined by their own functions, determined by their frames. (Which makes me kinda side-eye the advertisements that Megatron enjoys My Little Pony, but that’s a different story.)
When Ratchet recalls the events that led up to the War, he says, "It was here that [Megatronus] begins to reveal his true colors." But we should also take into consideration of Ratchet’s biases and that he’s an unreliable narrator; he describes a young Orion Pax finding out the corruption and inequality through his work in the Iacon Hall of Records and being moved to mentor the miner-turned-gladiator. In the Aligned novels, Orion hailed directly from the Wastelands, outside the safety from the walls of a city-state, the guy didn’t even understand Neocybex or whatever language the city-dwellers used.
I’ve seen takes with Orion being very ignorant by his own high-caste status and was mainly pushed by his own innate goodness and idealism, but I have yet to see takes on Orion’s unique position being from the absolute boonies and snatched up by Alpha Trion. I mean, you’re telling me that a very respectable individual in a very important position adopts a literal feral barbarian man/child and no one makes a comment? I don’t think so!!
Ratchet has his own ingrained prejudices: it’s shown how he speaks about the locals on Earth and how he dismisses Bulkhead not being a scientist as well as how all the Autobots fell apart when their Prime was taken away from them.
So back to Ratchet’s recall: the Autobots view Megatron as the megamanic that doomed their society, but the Decepticons view him as their liberator from chains.
Megatronus demanding to be named the next Prime is a power move on his part. Not in a way to consolidate absolute power, but it puts the old guard in a really tough position. The massive crowd against them won’t be swayed by pretty words or empty promises, but like Pits, they’re going to validate the uprise with the holiest of relics. Personally, I truly believe that the Senate endorsed Orion to break the revolution and its base.
I also think that Megatronus and Orion, while on the same team for a better, had played cards too close to their sparks, and believed the other mech to betray the cause. I mean, he wasn’t kidding that Orion would have made a great Decepticon, but there arise so many misunderstandings from this.
Honestly, the whole thing is really damn tragic when it’s broken down.
Megatron is really tsundere when you think about it. For all of his harshness, he does care, deep, deep down.
Why else would he demand sets of partners on missions after MECH got Breakdown? Why else the Vehicons were color-coded after he latched a car off the deck of an air-bound Nemesis? Why else he kept taking back Starscream?
Optimus-to-Orion brought out some of Megatron’s past before the wretched meeting, but he still manipulates the situation to keep him in the dark: decode the library and how Cybertron became a wasteland.
Megatron is not Megatronus/D-16, just as Optimus is not Orion Pax. They are very two different people shaped by what happened. If anything, it just hammers the tragedy of what happened.

Thrown to the Wolves is so good!!! We need more Feyd PoV! But readers relationship with Feyd-yess. But the pregnancy is scaring me a bit especially after one of the former maids said.
Also, this might not be related to the story but more to the character:
It seems like Leto didn’t take Reader/OC seriously & that because she is a woman & the child of her mother (instead of Lady Jessica) she is less than Paul. That’s the vibe I’m getting. I just want to get more understanding of that relationship that lead to her being very power driven.
Hiii!!! 👋🏻 There will be more of Feyd's POV as I promised to my readers – I will include something about him thinking of his wife's pregnancy but I am waiting for the right moment in the plot to include it. 😊
Yes, what she said was worrying but The Reader has that creepy medic injecting vitamins and minerals and proteins and literally everything in her so I don't think her child will weaken her so much. However, as the Baron mentioned to Feyd – the risk is that she will share her mother's fate and die in childbirth (spoiler alert – she won't because I never kill the Reader xd I mean I did that a few times long time ago in a different fandom and it always felt bad and I decided to never do it again)
Now, about the Reader's relationship with Leto — it's how I imagined it while writing it but of course everyone is welcome to have their own theories and feelings (the death of the author – my theories are as valid as yours!!!)
You are right – she was a girl and she was a daughter of a woman whom Leto didn't love; just a fruit of an unwanted arranged union – disappointing fruit as well since his wife was supposed to give him a son (as we know Lady Jessica was supposed to give birth to a daughter so he'd be left alone with no official male heirs).
But was Princess Atreides really treated so badly? Of course she felt worse because she was a girl and she couldn't inherit despite being older than Paul and not being a bastard. And it was making her angry just like the fact his mum was alive and hers was not. But in my opinion she is exaggerating a lot when she's describing her life on Caladan.
Now again, every person would react differently to such upbringing. Not everyone would grow hungry for power. She was either born this way or maybe she inherited it after her grandfather... After all, her mother might have been delicate and timid but her family's far from that. There is also another possibility that I like the most – she grew up with Lady Jessica who was the only mother figure (or the closest to it) she had. She is Lady Jessica. She learned from her.
I personally see the na-baroness a spoiled girl who is angry that her little brother is inheriting everything just because he's a boy and she thinks she'd make a better Duchess. She interprets every action of her family as something aimed at and against her and she kinda has that victim complex, exaggerating every single thing to make herself look like a martyr. There is no doubt Leto and Paul loved her dearly and even Jessica held some maternal feelings for her. But it was simply not enough.
I never meant for the Reader to be written as a good person. In the beginning it was less visible but on Giedi Prime her true self can bloom.

I realized that I use a lot of older songs in TATOTRTT so here is what they mean.
Message in the Bottle - The Police: This song is about loneliness and how it’s hard to reach out and when you eventually do you come to realize that everyone is lonely too and you aren’t the only one feeling this way. Obviously, I picked this song because the subject of the chapter was Jack getting hit with a bottle and it was funny. The bottle itself was also technically a “message.”
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd: I love this song so much, it was written about the protagonist's struggle with drugs and how it’s affecting their performance. Originally, I saw it more as some external force trying to fix the protagonist and help them back to their former glory. It felt fitting for a hospital scene.
Have a Cigar - Pink Floyd: I’ll admit this chapter had the wrong name for a while, I got it confused with something else so I apologize for it saying “lipstick stains on cigarettes” This song is also about the pressure to perform and how it becomes your responsibility to keep entertaining. This chapter has Jack struggle with the negatives of his career and status. Throughout this section, he does toggle with the notion of not finishing the tour
What I like about you - The Romantics: This chapter is more laid back and takes a break from the heavier content and focuses on the dynamic between Si’ha and Wander. Wander eventually confesses to his mother about his feelings and the song is about realizing that he does have these romantic feelings. Also, this song is a banger. It fits with the dance aesthetic too lol
Canary In a Coal Mine - The Police: This is honestly one of my favorite songs ever, a little history on it is that when people would go into the mines they’d bring a cage of canaries. The birds have smaller lungs; they would die if the air was toxic and when they stopped singing the miners knew when to get out. To the canaries, this was a death sentence. Jack in this fic is the canary, when he stops singing it becomes an issue. Wander & co are essentially going into that toxic environment and sparing him from his fate as a canary in a coal mine.
Cheri, Cheri, Lady - Modern Talking: This song was written when the lead singer saw the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen while on a trip to Miami. The song is about how confusing and difficult love and romantic feelings can be, but how the struggle is worth it. Jack and Wander have those feelings but they’re not able to express it with words, and like the writer of the song; lack the courage to talk to the woman. It’s also about how these feelings don’t care about the timing. Eventually, Jack leaves just like the woman in the song.
Working Man - Rush: I’m a huge Rush fan and had to weave some of them in, this song is about how one must keep on working regardless of how much they don’t like it. They don’t have a choice and need to keep going, their social life suffers and also their mental state. Jack had to get back in front of cameras and while in front of them be someone else. He is pulled away from his friends and doesn’t seem to have any time for anything else.
Call me - Blondie: On the surface this song kind of reads as a love song, in actuality it about a male prostitute which I didn’t even realize till I googled it. Jack obviously isn’t a prostitute but the way he is used and exploited makes him seem like one. Wander’s confession seems like my first idea of this song; which is genuine and a love song about being reliable. By the end that confession gets distorted.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles: I felt that this song had a lot of subtext about being exploited and altered into something you’re not. I feel like Jack is being changed to fit into what he needs to be as he struggles to decide if he wants his career or romantic relationship more.

Applying logic to Pern is a fool's errand I know, especially when it comes to the dragonkin for various reasons, but we're told that shifts of miners who work with whers are safer and more productive than those without. It makes sense, whers have wonderful senses of smell, are described as being amazing at figuring out where potential cave-ins and thin ground are (probably somehow related to their psychic abilities), are described as being fantastic diggers in their own right helping with the ore and stone, and based on descriptions we can assume they share the dragons' ability to carry however much they think they can carry. Between all this there's a lot of jobs whers should be fucking amazing at and mining is one of them.
So, logically speaking, mining on Pern should be arranged with wher productivity in mind. I'm looking at historical mineshaft numbers and in England in the mid-1700s they apparently averaged about 6 ft tall, though eariler centuries had heights as low as 3 ft, but I feel like on Pern they're probably far larger. You're not just going to want a wher in the mine, you're going to want them to be able to maneuver and to dig. And we know from Dragon's Kin that browns are historically used in mines, so based on my prior math we can assume mineshafts are typically at minimum 8-12 ft tall. I was going to give a width but by my estimates we'd probably be looking at something 20-30 ft (because if you have to get out quick you don't want a wher to have to carefully maneuver a three-point turn or back out of the mine and meanwhile you're stood on the inner side, easy way to lose a lot of people unnecessarily) and at that point...
Taking that into account, I think that probably explains the seeming use of room-and-pillar mining in Dragon's Kin- aside from any other benefits it would also allow for better maneuvering for the whers. So, we can probably assume that mines that utilize whers would probably use the same method, possibly long-wall mining as well. The former would also allow for retreat mining- where you collapse emptied rooms behind you to allow you to access ores above them more easily- which would also likely help in maximizing effectiveness of the whers.
We also can probably assume that mines that utilize whers likely don't go as deep as quickly as mines that don't may. After all, you're not getting a wher down a ladder and depending on how seriously we take the 'dragons weigh as much as they think they do' statement in The Skies of Pern and whether that applies to whers Pern may not yet have the means to haul a fucking wher straight up out of a mine. I've poked at math, if the weight thing doesn't apply fuckers are heavy. So, taking that into account, we're probably best assuming these mines have tunnels dedicated to entry and exit that are on a walkable slope if on a slope at all.
We can probably assume that more complex mechanical mine ventilation systems were lost over the thousands of years, given these people lost damn near everything else, so the use of whers as a safe method of detecting bad air would be even more important than in the early days, but also possibly to help make it faster to dig raises and adits which are used to improve ventilation in mines. As such these may be larger than what we see in historical mines on Earth, as even a small wher can be estimated at at least like 5 ft tall. Again, this would help with ventilation in the same way a cracked window doesn't air out a room as well or quickly as a half-open one.
Overall, an image to potentially have in one's head if they're doing something involving Pernese mines.

Searching for hidden gems while overcoming trust issues simply by doing our best
I try to generally keep a somewhat optimistic outlook on people, but sometimes I come across something and my reaction’s along the lines of disappointed but not surprised. The lengths some people will go to mistreat another and try to justify their behavior is disturbing, but I guess that’s in their nature. However, that doesn’t mean that they can get away with it all the time. Sooner or later, they’ll have to pay for their transgressions, and maybe that’s why it’s always good to hold out a tiny bit of hope that things will change for the better.
It’s not easy to escape a shitty situation, and it’s not easy moving on from it. Just because you’re in a much better place now doesn’t mean that the trauma you’ve experienced goes away overnight. Things like trust issues, anger and resentment, and the feeling of being broken and unlovable - those are the kinds of scars that stay with you. That doesn’t mean you can’t overcome them, it just takes a lot of time and effort, and it is far from easy.
What sparked this whole thing was two different incidents that are kinda connected in a way. But first, let me go back and explain why we’re in Yuexing for a sort of impromptu event. And what kind of activity would that be? A gyroid event, of course!
Globe gyroids are kinda uncommon and tend to pop up wherever and whenever they want. We know for certain that they tend to show up in places with high cliffs and soil rich with various minerals, and so Yuexing fits that description. And also, besides the gyroids, we’re also here to check out the jade since it’s said to be very high quality. Good thing I know someone who knows someone who can give us access to the good stuff without breaking the bank.
Connie was the one who heard about the globe gyroids and told me and Isabelle about it. Part of the reason why they invited us up here for that is so we can sort of provide a good distraction for some people who could really use a break. After the ordeal they went through, they really do deserve to take it easy.
What brought this on were Sophea’s latest clients, an adventuring trio dealing with harassment due to unsubstantiated rumors and likely just bad luck. Basically, three complete strangers came together to become an adventuring team, rising probably a bit too quickly in the ranks, causing some to become suspicious of their success. As with most cases like that, it’s just a series of coincidences and pure luck, especially when you consider their backgrounds and combined talents.
In this case, there’s the party leader Nikolai, a seasoned adventurer, so someone with a lot of expertise and knowledge when it comes to that kind of stuff. Then there’s Saff who, like Sophea, is half human and half mystical beast, so she’s someone with unique skills and life experiences. And then Cerise, who comes from a noble family of mages in another land, meaning they’re quite powerful in terms of politics and influence.
It’s not uncommon for underdogs to suddenly rise up in ranks, although it certainly does cast suspicion depending on who you ask. However, in most cases, these suspicions are unfounded - but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t instances where some people use underhanded methods to climb their way to the top. The investigations are really to protect the adventurers under question as often times these rumors are usually started by someone who opposes them, usually out of jealousy.
What made this particular case difficult is the parties that are involved. In other words, two separate but similar motives in an attempt to discredit someone. And to make matters even more complicated, it’s the kind of harassment that puts someone in danger, which is why law enforcement has to get involved. What a mess that is.
First, there’s Nikolai being outed by his former mentor. Said mentor was like a parent to him, the one who raised him to become a capable adventurer, groomed him to be his successor, blah, blah, blah. Except things didn’t go the way the mentor had planned because Nikolai - surprise, surprise - is his own person with his own thoughts, options, methods, and moral compass. Basically, his mentor’s adventure party is involved with a lot of shady stuff and he didn’t agree to that, which ultimately led to him getting kicked out.
Of course, at first Nikolai just went along with it because he had no other choice - can’t fault him for that. Still, he couldn’t help but feel guilty for being a bystander while his mentor and comrades get away with scamming others. And because they were quite wealthy and powerful, that inevitably complicated things as there was no way to fight back without repercussions.
Eventually, he reached his limit when a particular incident went too far. At least at that point, when they inevitably kicked him out, at least he’d be able to support himself for a time. He had hoped that his other party members would stand by his side, especially his now ex-girlfriend, only to be disappointed in the end. And now they’re claiming how they’ve been “deceived” by him after he was outed. Some friends they are.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long for him to bounce back. He, Saff, and Cerise happen to regulars at a local bar, so that’s how they met. It was crowded that night and they ended up sharing a table. Then they got drunk and opened up to each other about their woes and trust issues. Next thing they knew, they headed off to the local adventure’s guild to register as a team.
Initially, they just went on missions so they could pay their bills, though as time went on, they slowly came to trust each other. It wasn’t long before they started taking on difficult missions and climbing the ranks. Really, there’s not that much to it other than that.
Saff, like Nikolai, was once affiliated with a party who later tossed her aside. She’s originally from the north, though she believes her mythical beast roots are from Yuexing, which was why she moved there. She didn’t go into much detail other than her so-called friends were just using her and taking all the credit for her accomplishments. And then one day, for reasons unknown, they decided she was of no use to them anymore, so they robbed her and left her for dead in the middle of a dungeon.
Somehow she got rescued and later found out that her party left to travel west while telling others that Saff met a tragic end. By the time she reported the incident, their whereabouts became unknown, so it’s out of her hands now. As soon as she recovered and was told to leave the rest up to the authorities, Saff left, determined to make a clean break. Although she could care less about her ex-friends, they are considered fugitives, so when they finally get caught - well, that’s another legal mess she’ll have to deal with later. Besides, with everything else going on, it’s a good thing that they’re not involved with the current situation.
Cerise, unlike the others, had no prior experience as an adventurer. Despite hailing from a prestigious clan, she was treated like an outsider because she is disabled, which they are ashamed of. She considers it a mixed blessing that her parents sent her off to boarding school as it distanced herself from them. Although she’s the eldest, she was always infantilized and bullied, especially by her younger siblings and cousins. Had she stayed home, she doubts she’d be alive by now. Yikes.
She figured that when word got out that she had become an adventurer, no one would care. Instead, what she got as a response was not only hostility, but straight up harassment from certain people in her family. Cerise knew that they had little faith in her, though she never thought that they seriously assume that she had malicious intentions or something. She was under the false assumption that if she was able to prove that she could stand on her own, she’d finally get the respect she rightfully deserves. If only it were that simple…
Instead, when they realized that Cerise could take care of herself given the right accommodations, they interpreted that as her needing to be coddled in order to do the bare minimum, therefore, she’s nothing but a spoiled brat who can’t take care of herself. Again, yikes. She stopped expecting too much from them a long time ago, but when they started making her question whether or not she deserves autonomy over her own life, it’s no wonder why it’s hard for her to stand up for herself.
Cerise and Saff’s troubles began not too long after Cerise’s family heard about the investigation. Saff was unwittingly dragged into the family drama and lost her cool when she witnessed the bullying Cerise had to put up with. So she jumped to her friend’s defense, though she admits that she overstepped her boundaries a bit - still, she meant what she said for the most part. She and Cerise didn’t expect her siblings and cousins to blow things way out of proportion, labeling Cerise as a helpless puppet and Saff as manipulative mastermind. In other words, it was a private dispute turned into a spectacle, which inevitably added even more fuel to the fire. Situations like that never turn out well for both sides regardless of who’s right or who’s wrong.
The initial investigation was nothing remarkable, just a routine thing to make sure no one’s cheating, or abusing their power, or pulling some strings - and that should’ve been it. But no, now some people with petty grudges had to come in and start up some flames of their own. And for what? Revenge? Jealousy? Or are they just a bunch of whiny bitches who can’t stand the fact that their victims are doing better without them? Beats me. Though, considering the roots of these attacks are basically transphobia and ableism, it’s pretty obvious what their angle is.
As if the harassment and bullying isn’t enough, Cerise came across another thing that’s pretty fucked up. Basically, her siblings and cousins have been making bets on how Cerise will die because, A, adventurers live a high-risk lifestyle, and so their lifespans if they’re a mortal human are obviously shorter. And B, there’s a likely chance that she would commit suicide. So they’re making bets on whether she’d die by accident, murder, or suicide - what the fuck. And not only that, they also plan on profiting from her death, making it out to be sensational tragedy or something to draw sympathy or something. I’m like okay…that’s really fucked up and disrespectful…what the fuck is wrong with these people?
In light of that disturbing information, that prompted Sophea and Connie to tell the trio to get their affairs sorted out. They may not have much to their names right now, but that won’t stop their enemies from taking advantage of them when they’re dead. In Nikolai’s case, if he doesn’t put an executor on paper, his old mentor could easily swoop in and take over. So that means nothing would stop him from not only stealing what little property and assets he had, it’s also likely that he’d bury Nikolai under his deadname, leaving him to be misgendered and disrespected for eternity. What better way to disrespect the dead than to disregard their identity?
In Cerise’s case, Sophea notes some similarities with a high profile case she took on recently that’s still on the public’s mind. It involved the downfall of a once prestigious clan following various scandals, including allegations of abuse towards the former master’s eldest daughter. The daughter, like Cerise, has a mild intellectual disability, and so her father was ashamed of her existence. Thankfully, after she was thrown out of the house, another family took her in, and the head of that family, a general whose sister is an acquaintance of Sophea’s, later proposed to her.
Not too long after Lifeng took Shuyi under his wing, the allegations came out, which Shuyi’s father tried to deny at first. Some time later, Shuyi was reunited with her mother’s family, who were forced to cut off contact when her mother married into the Yulin clan. Basically, it was an arranged marriage for political reasons. After his first wife died, the former head of the Yulin clan married his mistress and they had a daughter who was going to be his successor.
While getting reacquainted with her mother’s relatives, Shuyu and her uncle came across her mother’s will that was hidden away long ago. To no one’s surprise, the Yulin head forged his first wife’s will so he could put himself as executor and take everything for himself. There has been suspicions, but without evidence, like an actual physical document, it was only speculation. As the family suspected, the authentic will maintained her brother as the executor and her daughter as the sole benefactor. And that put the final nail in the coffin for the Yulin clan.
The last thing Shuyu and Lifeng wanted was for the whole thing to become a public spectacle, but the ex-master apparently was desperate to save face. The legal mess that followed thanks to him was a nightmare, so most legal advisors dared not to get involved. Sophea was understandably reluctant too, but because she’s well acquainted with the Tianyu clan and is known to not be easily swayed or bribed, she was the best advisor who could put this potentially drawn out legal debacle to a swift end.
Because two powerful families are involved, the case was bound to draw a lot of attention. The general public was sympathetic to Shuyu and felt she deserved what was rightfully hers. When her father realized that, he tried to justify his abuse towards her in some desperate attempt to gain favor. Obviously, it didn’t work, and that led to an infamous confrontation in the courtroom when he made some speech about how his daughter was feebleminded and that she would never amount to anything - basically shit like it’s for her own good or she wouldn’t have known better.
By then, Shuyu was understandably fed up and told her father to go fuck himself, which surprised everyone in the room because she was said to be soft spoken and somewhat passive. Then again, we all have out limits. Sophea had a feeling that if it wasn’t for the fact that he was in public, he probably would’ve killed his daughter right on the spot. In the end, the Yulins refused to accept their downfall and committed suicide, blaming Shuyu for what happened. Shuyu’s sister is missing, though most likely dead considering how loyal she was towards her parents.
There’s still a lot of unresolved stuff with the Yulin case, but at least Shuyu’s no longer in their clutches. Sophea has to work with the estate in terms of giving Shuyu the money and property that’s rightfully hers, which will take a while considering the mess her father left behind. It’s not an ideal resolution, though it’s a start. As long as Shuyu’s safe and happy, that’s what really matters in the end.
With that case fresh in her mind, it makes sense that Sophea wants to make sure Nikolai, Cerise, and Saff get their affairs in order to avoid an incident like with Shuyu’s mother. It may not seem like a big deal, especially if you think you don’t have much to your name, but people should have a say in regards to how they want their death to be handled. It’s just basic decency and respect. Plus, in places like Yuexing, it’s also a cultural thing - deaths and funeral rites are big deal over there, so it must be done with utmost respect.
In light of finding out that certain people are making a game out of her supposed death in hopes of profiting off it, Cerise wants to know all she can about the topic of making a final will and testament to avoid being exploited when her time comes. Nikolai, knowing full well that his former mentor’s the type to disrespect someone’s wishes just because he can, also wants to delve more deeply into that - not just to protect himself, but to also protect others in a similar situation. Saff’s indifferent, mainly because she’s not a mortal, but that doesn’t mean she’s invincible. Better get those final affairs sorted out now rather than never, Sophea and Connie had warned her. They would know.
Despite the heavy stuff they’re dealing with, the trio’s glad that most of their troubles are behind them now that Sophea and Connie are helping out. Nikolai’s former mentor is currently in a lot of hot water because of an unrelated problem and now that the general public knows about his various transgressions like harassing and outing his former student, it’s safe to say that there’s no coming back from that. Whatever happens to his ex-mentor from here on out is no longer Nikolai’s concern.
As for Cerise, her situation’s a bit more complicated, but for now, the best thing she can do is shut them out, which is fine by her. Besides, with one of Yuexing’s best legal advisors around, Cerise knows that her family isn’t stupid enough to fight a losing battle unlike a certain former clan. Plus, she’s done trying to bend over backwards just to get approval from those who will never respect her. She’s found people who care for her unconditionally and won’t get mad at her for being slow and constantly make mistakes, and she’s found that to be more than enough. If certain people have an issue with that, well, fuck them for hating on someone’s happiness.
The one upside to all of this mess is that it allowed the trio to really get to know each other. The three admit to having trust issues, which is understandable given what they’ve been through, which was what ended up bringing them together. Despite being jaded by what they’ve had to deal with, it made them more determined to believe that people are still inherently good. Just because they’ve suffered doesn’t give them permission to do the same to others, and that’s what probably kept them from becoming completely disillusioned.
Nikolai said it best about how there’s a lot of suffering in the world already and it’s getting old. Break the cycle, so to speak. I see where he’s getting at and I think he’s right. People with that mindset are the ones who get things done and see to it that things change for the better.

Heavenly
Deep within the White Forest, a familiar shiny dusknoir was floating, slowly keeping out of view of any potential humans or pokemon that were clearly trying to catch her. It had been nothing but trees for the last few days. This was a blessing and a curse; it prevented the authorities from finding her, but also there was an utter lack of landmarks to leave or trace her steps.
Until she saw a cobalt blue light radiating from her left. Initially, she assumed the worst. It had to be some ranger group. Instead it was some kind of other worldly mineral.
As she approached, the details of the mineral came into focus. Despite clearly having weight, the construct as a consistency of liquid, causing light to shimmer off.
Inside the construct was a jirachi, far lumpier in the skull than others, having circular folds on the side and red crescent moon tastels.
Eyes opened from the mysterious creature. It was clearly mouthing something that Dela could not hear. The mysterious material had a sound dampening effect.
As if it was on command, the construct lost its mass, seeping into the ground without a trace of moisture.
Once the jirachi’s head was free of the container, the dusknoir could finally hear what it was saying.
Words were not spoken, but sounds were escaping the alien being. Vague facsimile of words, but it was obvious they enabled something if it enabled the mystic mon to exit the strange rock.
As the mystic finally fell silent, it finally landed on the ground with grace. Upon doing so, it opened its eyes, giving full attention to their watcher.
“Ah. A dusknoir. Perfect. A former human at that. Even better.” A very terse, blunt voice came from this entity.
There were several thoughts that were rapid firing in Dela’s mind. What did it matter that she was a dusknoir? How did they know that she was a former human? What was that alien language?
“Sorry. I should explain myself. My name is Apolly. Paradox Archivist under the command of Third Asura-Banya.”
Questions were not going to be stopping soon. That was way too many proper nouns that would likely lead down more bunnery holes.
Good for everyone involved, Apolly also seemed to realize this. “I work for a god to track and notates changes in the universe. Anomalies and sudden changes.”
Now the herald was speaking the dusknoirs language, she was nodding head in understanding. “I get it! So you track down paradoxes and continuity between different universes,” while she was a human, Dela had been writing a thesis on this very topic. If she were still an academic, she would have fainted. “I have so many questions.”
This made the jirachi feel bad. This was a lot to throw at a non-cosmic being. “I know this is a lot but-”
“That means paradoxes are a factor of the universe and are some kind of phenomenon that can be tracked and archived like the weather! This can lead to many other theories! I can potentially solve the God-Head Paradox, solve Atolmos’ inquiry on hypertime and even get several theories thrown out!”
Surprise. Pleasant surprise. That was the emotion that was going through the jirachi’s head. First mortal met since making contact and she was smarter than initially thought. A toothy smile came across the mystic’s face.
“Well you are a pleasant surprise! Someone who is not going to be confused,” the terse talking seemed to break. “If you do not mind, can you be my guide? It will make my job far more lively.”
Floating and talking it was then. This would at least be an interesting partnership.

I needed something to do with my hands so I could pay attention to something that was mostly audio-only last night, so I did something I'd been plotting for the past week:
Yet AGAIN started over in Starfield.
I've gotten frustrated with the game trying to play it like Skyrim / Fallout 4. I tend to make jack of all trades characters, which isn't normally hard to do.
Starfield actually does make that feasible, but it's a long game sort of thing, meaning a character who spreads out a bit too much early on might get annoyed (even if it is good to spread out a little to get challenges started).
So I've made a Wanted Industrialist who is a Taskmaster. They're not wanted by a governing body, however, so I'm assuming the person who put the bounty on her was either a former employer, or a former employee.
Since I don't know, I'm going with SHE doesn't know, either, but the bounty did result in her ditching her job and becoming a miner, causing her to re-evalute how she treats people.
And if I want to go full-on character development, I know where to permanently get rid of taskmaster, but I do like the idea of my ship autohealing, so... We'll see.
Anyway, to begin with, I'm going to see how things go if I focus mostly on Security, Persuasion, and Crafting. I did NOT pick Industrialist at random, beginning with Security, Persuasion, and Research (though I also just liked the backstory option).
I intend to max out Persuasion and make Master Locks possible ASAP. Persuasion is actually way easier to level than I thought, as you can just haggle with potential hires, then not hire them (look, she's still on her redemption arc, okay?!).
Also, no adoring fan, got really tired of him. Sorry, adoring fan 😬

headcanon: 002
So, this headcanon is all about becoming a sheriff, what it means to Travis, and how I perceive his reputation in North Kill. In the state of New York, there are a few hoops one has to jump through to become a sheriff. In the game, good ole Constance claims that Travis only received the role because the previous sheriff, Hank, died during the sideshow fire.
Obviously, it's a bit more complex than that. First, Travis needs to have graduated high school or obtained a GED. I wouldn't put it past Constance to homeschool her children, but I haven't fully decided yet for my iteration of Travis as whether this is part of his history or not.
At the very least, Travis has his GED. Most police officers need to attend some form of training academy where they learn the various aspects of law enforcement. I think this process was good for him, and he enjoyed it. The work got him out of the house, helped him maintain a good level of fitness, and allowed him to connect with his fellow officers. There's a good amount of camaraderie and brother/sistership among officers in blue, after all. Travis loves his family (as much as he hates certain aspects of it), but the police force represent a sort of found-family that doesn't come with the same expectations that his actual family carries.
To become a sheriff, you typically need 60 credit hours in the force. Obviously, the more experienced you are, the better your chances are of becoming sheriff.
Now, the hardest part of becoming a sheriff is running for election. It's typically a role that's elected every four years. Most counties tend to vote for the same sheriff every cycle unless the sheriff is doing something wrong or is exposed as being dirty. As such, even though it's an elected position, a sheriff could potentially be there for life until they officially retire from the force.
The election process is the same as most other elections. Depending on the drive of the individual, they'll go out campaigning and might spend a good amount of money to advertise more than their competitors.
In the game, the former sheriff dies, and we know that Travis takes up his position. He didn't inherit though. It means he put his name forward for election to the role. Now, there was likely some pressure for him to do so from the family. As a sheriff, he'd be able to control the amount of heat and danger that the family now found themselves in with all the werewolf business going on.
But I do believe that it's a role he wanted, too. I think Travis enjoys authority. I think he enjoys the prestige it gives him. As far as we know, none of the other Hacketts in his family have served in law enforcement before. Protecting others seems to come naturally to him.
The game takes place six years after the initial werewolf bite from Silas to Caleb. That means Travis has been sheriff for six years. He served his four terms, and then he was elected for another term. He has two years left during the events of The Quarry.
Clearly, the people of North Kill seem to agree with his direction as sheriff. The Hackett name might influence their decision, absolutely. But at this point I don't think the Hacketts have the funds to fund his campaigning anymore than anyone else. Although, arguably, the name, itself, might help.
Of course, that's IF the Hackett name is respected. We know that Septimus closed the quarry mine and put a lot of miners out of work. I can't imagine that made the Hackett name very loved.
So, what does this all come down to? I'm of the opinion, hence the headcanon, that Travis is a bit of a social chameleon. He's damned awkward in most situations, but when he needs to put on a good face for the cameras? He knows how to.
You can bet hiding his abuse to protect the family image honed that skill. But I also think that Travis was a genuinely decent, if not good, sheriff. Outside of the problems with the Hackett family and the cover ups, he was likely fair to the citizens of North Kill.
Why would they elect him otherwise? It's not like the Hacketts, themselves, could do much to anyone anymore. Old news with a decaying summer camp and rusted-up scrapyard.
He also just really, really, enjoys being sheriff.
