"At a time when my life felt scattered and incomplete, the fantasy world of The Parent Trap, and the warm and maternal presence of Chessy, provided me with a dream of gluing the pieces of it together. The film, though not explicitly queer, still provides a sort of utopia of queer acceptance, connection and love. [...] Some days I still think that maybe all I need is a hug from Lisa Ann Walter and I will be all right." - Michael Elias (x)

This is my last night here. Tomorrow I drive the Uhaul to the Amtrak station in Florence. We leave the hotel at noon but the Uhaul won’t be ready until 4pm. Then the drive is 2 hours to Florence. The train leaves late at night so it will be a strange day with gaps of time. I feel nervous about driving the uhaul. I haven’t driven at all in a while since I didn’t drive to Mississippi to see my mom last year. I guess I will remember how. But I’ve never driven a uhaul truck I don’t think. It will be a 10 foot truck, which is the small one. All we’re doing is putting our bikes in it. I kind of wish I could ask someone to drive it for me like they do on the Chesapeake Bay bridge. But uhaul does have a video of driving tips for people who feel nervous. It’s been a revelatory thing for me to find out how many people are nervous about things to the point of needing help, and how many services are provided for them. I thought people hid their nervousness more.
Another thing we did, and something I’ve never thought to do before, is take some of our heavy things like the tent and other camping gear to a UPS store to mail home. It wasn’t too expensive and will make the last part of this trip much easier.
I haven’t been back to a Starbucks to send videos. I just want to write to you. I love all your posts again today. Your many concerns and interests. I love the crab and the spider and tigers and Flaco. One of the Jemison books I keep wanting you to read has a whole part about an underground city like the ancient Turkish one. Also The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro has an underground city where the main characters live before they go on their journey to visit their imagined son. I’ve wondered if these kinds of cities were ever actual places in the world. Something else I want to show you is a passage from the Ursula K. Le Guin novel I’ve been slowly reading. It’s called Changing Planes I may have told you. The title is a kind of pun about waiting for flights in an airport but is really a literal action a woman discovers that can only be taken in airports and is a way to travel to different planes or places where other kinds of planets and civilizations exist. The book is a novel but is organized more like short stories, with each chapter being a description of a particular planet the narrator visits by using the special airport method. The book is funny and wise and wildly imaginative and satirical about societal ways. But what I want to show you is the beginning of a certain chapter that references the library quote by Borges you posted recently. I think I’m trying to interest you in reading Ursula K. Le Guin if you haven’t already. I want to share a love of her with you.
Thank you, Melissa, for being so close to me during my trip. And for making the protective spells I told you I can feel whether you mean to have made them. I believe that you’ve made them. This is our secret plane we keep discovering. It is a precious treasure we've found.

It was a long day at the hospital and you didn't want to party. But it was EZ night, after being fully patched, and he begged you to go. Even if you know all the Mayans and have a good relationship with them, you feel totally out of place when your friend disappears. He said it was only for some minutes, but one hour has already passed and your drink is almost emptied. You could go home, but the problem is that your housemate asked you to have the house for her own tonight. Another Tinder date. So now, you're freezing because EZ kept your hoodie, sitting on the porch and not knowing where you are going to sleep tonight. Your last option? Search for a hotel room.
Heavily sighing you grab your phone from a pocket of your shorts, curling your body over the couch looking for some warmth. Typing over the screen, you wait for the results. Thirty dollars per night. EZ and Melissa are going to pay for that. Taking off your wallet from your bag, you hold your credit card to hire one room. At least, you will enjoy a good breakfast tomorrow. You don't notice Angel's presence until he asks you what you are doing. Turning your face towards him, you find the oldest Reyes with an arm on one of Vicki's girls shoulders. Mumbling nonsense words, you end up shrugging. If you tell him about your new adventure, he will scold you for not asking him first. But you're weak, and if you stay alone with him, you're going to screw up things between you two.
Before you can't stop him, Angel has grabbed your phone, leaving the girl in the background visibly annoyed. Licking your lips, he looks at you frowning. That look is also enough for the other woman to abandon the porch. Keeping your phone in his back pocket, he takes off his kutte holding it between his legs to offer you his hoodie. Puckering your lips ashamed, you take it to wear it. His smells almost dizzies you, closing the zip over your abdomen and your chest. The warmth of his body concentrated on the fabric comforts you more than anything, holding this time the hand in front of your eyes.
“C'mon, I will take you to my house”.
“You don't have to, Angel”. You whisper, even if you're really desiring it. “You can stay with that girl, and I can g—”.
“Nah”. He clicks his tongue, tangling your fingers with his. “I'm not gonna let you alone, as my shitty brother did”.
He's smirking at you, proud of saving the damsel in distress. Guiding you to his motorbike, he makes you wear on the helmet, assuring that it's tight grip under your chin. Putting away a lock of hair, sticking out by a side, he softly slaps the top of the helmet.
“Let's go, mami”.
The ride is shorter than you thought, clinged to his waist until the bike stops close to the building. Helping you to jump out of it, you follow Angel through the yard to the inside, going upstairs. You have been a lot of times in his house, but this time is different, because it's the first one you're alone. Standing up in the middle of the living room, the man goes to his room to come back a minute later carrying a shirt and a pair of short sweatpants.
“You can wear it, it will be more comfortable to sleep”.
“Thank you”. Whispering with a fleeting smile drawn on your lips, you hold it. “I can… sleep on the sofa”.
“Nah, bed is yours”. Shaking his head, he takes off his kutte to hang it on a chair.
That's not a good idea for you, covered by his smell and dying inside in the meantime. But you just nod, before leaving him to change your clothes. Once that you're ready, tying up your hair, you step out of his room with your new pajamas.
“Wanna beer?”
“Yeah, sure”.
“So, it's supposed that you were staying with EZ?” He asks then, opening the fridge to grab the drinks and sit with you on the sofa.
“It was supposed”. Giggling, you hold your beer to have a sip.
“A toast for my shitty lil brother boiling you”.
“Wow, that's rude!” You laugh, colliding slightly your bottle with his.
“Nah, enjoy our night. It's the first time we're alone, didn't know you?”
“Yes, I know”.
“Why? I mean, we were friends in our childhood. It's not like… you don't know me”. He sounds a little offended and confused.
“Ah… I don't know”. Putting away your gaze, you focus the moves of your fingers on the beer, shrugging somewhat nervous.
Yes, you know it. But you're not going to tell him.
“I always thought you were in love with me”. He laughs loud, shaking his head.
Your heart is jumping inside your chest, about to fly out and leave the earth's atmosphere. But when he finds you not laughing back, he almost chokes on his beer. With an incredulous gesture, he cleans his mouth with the back of his hand, licking his bottom lip. You're fucked. You just want to run away. From his house. From Santo Padre. From California. Maybe, from the United States. But he grabs your left wrist when you're about to get up.
“Are you…?” He mumbles surprised.
“Angel, I do—”.
“I thought you were just mad at me for something”. Now, the tone of his laugh turns to a happy one, confusing you. “Damn! I thought that maybe I did one of those comments that bothers you, and you just simply… kicked me out”.
“Sorry, I didn't mean to… make you feel like that”.
“So, are you actually in love with me?” Angel is still sounding surprised, putting both drinks away over the coffee table.
His ringed fingers grab your forearms making you kneel on the sofa, a little bit closer from his position. You can't barely breathe when he urges you to lie over his body, embracing you tightly as he places his whole anatomy on the sofa. Your pulse is about to stop, after speeding up too much.
“Do you wanna know a secret?”
“No…” You sob between laughs, covering your face with both hands.
He laughs louder, making his chest vibrate under yours. Turning both bodies on a side, he grabs again your wrist to discover your face. Your cheeks are burning. He's too close. Your back is stuck against the sofa and you two barely fit on it, but Angel looks comfy just like that.
“You were my crush on highschool”. He confesses chuckling, putting an arm under your neck.
“No, it's not true”.
“Yeah, it is. But I thought you and EZ were dating”.
“You think too much”. You mock him.
He nods with pursed lips.
“And didn't help at all”. Angel adds then, starting to caress your hair with soft gestures of his fingertips. Having a light deep breath, he places his head on the cushion. “So… what about you dating me?”
You have never heard him so nervous, always being so secure of himself around girls. And you can't even believe what he is asking you. Now, you're the one who feels secure, and he is the one dying inside.
“I've never had a girlfriend and I don't know what to do, but I'm sure about how many times I have to feed you and how many times I have to take you for a walk”.
“Angel, I'm not a dog!” Palming his chest, you almost roll on your back.
“You sure?” He jokes then, trying to hide the fact that you haven't answered his question yet and he's losing his calm.
“We can figure it out”. You finally say, nodding for a second.
He's smiling like a fool, using the hand on the back of your head to push you some inches closer, until your lips touch his. A soft kiss happening in the meantime that your fingers get intertwined on his shirt, and his free hand flies to your cheek. Your mouths molding perfectly, tasting the bitter mix of beer and your salivas. The pace of your heart feeling calmed, almost touching your noses when he tucks his tongue between your lips. Caressing it, you can't help but fit your body with his when his right arm surrounds tightly your waist. You don't know how many times you have dreamt with that kiss, but probably exactly as he has done.
Running out of air, Angel draws a path of wet kisses down to your jaw, sinking his face into the gap of your neck. His dense beard makes you some tickles, as his teeth getting dragged over your skin give you some soft shivers. You can't help but keep your eyes closed, biting your bottom lip while your fingers tighten the grip in his shirt. One of his hands, placed now on your ass, roams the back of your thigh to urge you to raise up your leg over his, settling himself almost under your body.
“Do you still want to sleep alone?” He whispers against your skin, bristling it with his warm breath.
“No”. You gasp unconsciously as soon as he starts to rock his hips with slow moves.
The hardness under his jeans is perfectly seated against your center, enjoying the friction his anatomy does to yours.
“Who you wanna sleep with, baby?” He asks, clearly teasing you, knowing how much he wants to hear it.
“I wanna sleep with my boyfriend”. You can feel the smile on his lips growing up, because his mouth is still pressed on your neck.
Sticking out his face from his hiding place, Angel kisses you again, turning you on your back. With him lying over you, his pelvis can go somewhat deeper into your legs, finally making you moan just with a simple move. The clothes are hindering you more than anything, but seems like he loves to play with you. And you're no one to ask him to stop, aren't you?
“Does mi preciosa novia want to be fucked by his amazing boyfriend?” His ringed fingers are nailed on your sides, securing you against the sofa, to thrust his hard rock to your needed pussy already wet for him.
“Yes, please…”
“Do you like how it sounds, ah?”
You just nod, feeling his right hand traveling down the fabric of the shirt, finding the waistband of the sweatpants. He doesn't lose time on sliding it under your clothes, grunting because of the heat flooding from your core. But he just caress your folds, impregnating his digits with your juices to bring it to his mouth. Barely gulping, you watch him sucking his own fingers and his eyes getting darker.
“You taste so fucking good, mi reina”. He gasps onto your lips.
And you don't need to be asked to. Gripping his wrist, you take his fingers into your mouth. Your lips closing around it and your head bowing up and down slowly. His orbs are glued on yours, as your tongue tastes his skin. Angel bites his bottom lip using his incisors, seeing how his Adam's apple moves in his throat by gulping his own saliva.
“Fuck my life…” He babbles, enraptured by the way your lips suck his fingers.
“Fuck me, Angel”. You correct him, looking now for his mouth.

When In New York City
Pairing: David Dobrik x reader
Song: All These Years - Camila Cabello
Summary: They meet randomly after a couple of years and decide to get a cup of coffee.
A/N: There will be a part 2 for this. Let me know if you want to be tagged.
PART 2
Tumblr media
“Y/N?” You freeze. It’s been two years but you’d never forget that voice.
“David?” you ask turning around with a smile. His hair is a little longer and he’s grown some stubble. He looked like a man now.
“That’s crazy to bump into you. How have you been?” He’s smiling from ear to ear and it makes you think about all the times you’d catch him looking at you smiling when he thought you didn’t notice.
“I’ve been good. Very busy. Your retweet really got the business going, thanks.” You’d left LA and moved to New York to open up a book shop that had special deals like bring a book and exchange it for new one. It also housed a small cafe with coffee and tables so you could sit and enjoy the book you just bought. And things had been going fine but they really took off after David retweeted one of the shops tweets. Suddenly all your days were busy and you’d even been able to afford to get your own place rather than share a flat with three others.
“No problem at all. Just glad to help,” he smiles hesitating for just a second, “God, it’s been so long. Hug?” You shouldn’t do it. You’ve worked so hard to leave David in the past but when he looks at you like that you can’t say no. So you hug him and he smells just as good as you remember. He wraps his arms around your waist and squeezes you tightly.
“So you’re still doing the youtube thing?” you ask noticing the camera in his hand. Of course, you already know that he’s still doing the youtube thing because you’ve got his post notifications on. But you’re not about to admit that now.
“Yeah, it actually worked out pretty well.” It’s an understatement but David’s never been one to brag and you’re not going to correct him.
“Listen, I’m actually late for a meeting, but we should grab coffee tomorrow? Is your number still the same?” For a moment your brain checks out completely and you just nod because yes, your number is in fact still the same but maybe coffee with your ex isn’t the best idea. Seeing him in New York has just reminded you of how much you’ve missed him and how you still wish he’d have come with you. But his youtube career was taking off and he couldn’t leave LA where he had his huge friend group to help with content and already a few sponsorships as well. But you couldn’t stay in LA since there was no market for you and your dream of owning a bookstore. Everything was digitalised in LA and no one wanted to open a book anymore. New York had always been the dream and none of you had wanted to stand in the way of each other. So you’d let each other go instead. David had driven you to the airport and kissed you goodbye. And that was it. The epic love story was over.
“Shoot, I’m already late. I’ll text you,” he yells over his shoulder before leaving you in the streets of Manhattan lost in your memories of him. The rest of the day is a blur to you but you find your way home. You don’t really sleep that night but somehow it’s already 7am and you’re getting dressed. Looking in the mirror you shake your head to try and focus. You’re not 16 anymore - besides you’ve heard he already has a girlfriend that he’s very happy with. So there’s really nothing to be nervous about. It’s just two old friends getting a cup of coffee. Thankfully today is another busy day at the store so you don’t have time to think about it until the clock strikes 5am and David is standing in front of you.
“Hi,” he says. You’ve already cleared it with Melissa to cover the evening shift and lock up when she leaves. She’s a very nice student for NYU and works harder than most people her age so you had no troubles leaving your beloved book store in her hands.
“Let me get my apron off and I’ll be right out,” you smile before heading back.
“You did not tell me that you were going out with David Dobrik!” Melissa squeals almost dropping the stack of books in her arms. Apparently, she’s a fan.
“We’re not going out. He’s an old friend.”
“Sure. But my friends don’t look at me like that,” she smirks before walking out. When you return he’s surrounded by people all wanting a picture. He looks at you apologetically before returning focus to the swarm of people around him. It’s a good half hour before you can go but you don’t mind waiting. It’s nice to see him so in his element as opposed to when he first started out and turned into a blushing mess. Now he looked calm and confident which made him 10 times sexier.
“Ready to go?” you ask once everything has finally calmed down. He nods offering his arm. You hesitate for just a second before accepting it. You have to be careful not to fall back into old habits.
“So where do you want to go?” you ask looking up at him.
“You’re the one who lives here. What’s good?” he counters with a smile.
“Well, there’s a really small place just next to Central Park that has the best coffee you’ll ever taste. And the hot chocolate is amazing too.”
“Lead the way.” As you walk to the cafe the two of you talk about everything and nothing. David tells you about moving in with Natalie and how he found Jason. He talks about SeatGeek and how he’s been able to do all these amazing things for his friends. In turn you tell him about getting the store up and running, all the renovations and the marketing. You talk about your family back home and how you might be getting ready to expand business. It’s like no time has passed since you saw each other last but you constantly remind yourself that a lot of time has in fact passed. You’re not the same people you were when you last saw each other.
“Here,” you say noticing that you’ve already arrived. You quickly order some drinks for you before heading to Central Park.
“Have you ever seen Central Park in December? It’s the most gorgeous thing ever.”
“I actually haven’t. But maybe I should put it on my to-do-list for this year. You could show me around?” Say no. Just say no.
“Sure.” Damn it. You look over at him and you feel this need to kiss him. After all these years he’s still the one person you want. Every date and every hook up just made you miss him more.
“I have to take this. One second,” he says before taking a couple of steps away to create the illusion of privacy.
“Hey babe. What’s up?” You shouldn’t listen.
“I told I’m out with a friend. I’ll be back later.” It’s an invasion of his privacy.
“I know. I’ll make it up to you tomorrow, okay?” Why are you insisting on twisting the knife in your chest right now?
“I love you too. See you.” He returns to you completely oblivious to what’s going on in your head.
“So where to next?” he asks.
“Home,” you say and quickly add, “at least for me. I’ve got an early morning.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Have I kept you too long? It’s just been so good to catch up with you.” He doesn’t mean it the way you want him to. You know he doesn’t but someone forgot to tell the butterflies in your stomach.
“Yeah, it’s been great.”
“Listen, I’m flying home tomorrow. But maybe I could be lucky enough to see you next time I’m in New York?” For the love of God, listen to your-
“Sure.” You’re an idiot.

Mama Hanna and Caleb decided to post pone the wedding so they could mourn properly. Not really mourn but make sure Candace was no longer in their heads. They had a small funeral for her then had cremated. Caleb wanted a fresh start with his family. He didn't want them looking over their shoulders wondering when Candace was goin to attack.
He don't regret killing Candace, he just regrets it took him so long to do it. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke loudly. Plus, Mama Hanna was giving him time to grow his beard back. She was not about to marry him and he had a naked ass face. The kids and Mama Katheryn were in the Bahamas first to get things ready for the small beach wedding.
Mama Katheryn was talking to the pastor. Benjamin was watching her from a distance with Brooklyn in his arms. He knew he needed to apologize to her. He was just tired of being wrong all the time. Aproaching her with Brooklyn in his arms he waited until she was done with the pastor.
"Hi Benny. Is everything okay?"
"Uh yea. I would like to apologize to you."
"For what?"
"For not signing the money over and thinking you were like your ex husband. I was hurt. I was confused and I was influenced by Candace."
Mama Katheryn gave him a small smile.
"We all have our moments, I forgive you."
"I would also like to thank you for being a best friend to my Mom. She don't trust or like a lot people. You one of the few people she does trust and love."
"Your Mother is my sister. I would do anything for her and you guys if needed."
"I would also like to introduce you to Brooklyn. Your great nephew."
"He is going to be a little heartbreaker. He is very handsome."
"Thank you."
While Benjamin and Mama Katheryn continued to talk Cameron was inside the house they all be staying in talking to Charles.
"You apart of the beard gang now?"
Cameron joked causing Charles to laugh that showed his dimple off.
"I want to try a new look. Your sister loves it so far."
"Of course she does. I know you the President or Presidential Elect but that won't stop me from putting my foot up ya ass if need be."
Charles folded his arms across his chest.
"Thats my lil sister. She already got her heart broken by Mitch. I'm not trying to have her go through that again. Treat her right."
"I will Cameron. I will."
Cameron held his hand out for Charles to shake. Uncrossing his arms he shook Camerons hand.
Back upstairs Lainey, Melissa, and Marcie were talking while Treasure, Diego, and Caleb Jr. took a small nap.
"How does it feel to be apart of this crazy ass family?"
Lainey asked as she scrolled through her IG feed chuckling seeing the selfie Ardian posted. Leaving a quick comment she put her phone down giving Marcie her attention.
"Its weird. I don't have a big family but your Mom and Dad welcomed me in with open arms. Your brother came at the right time too."
"His big headed ass is a good man. Treat him right. Hes not your ex husband and hes not going to treat you bad. If you treat our brother bad, you will get your ass beat. I don't play bout my brothers."
Marcie nodded her head in understanding.
"I wonder why Mama didn't want a church wedding?"
Melissa asked out loud.
"She probably wanted something simple and quaint and didn't want to do a lot of fussing. Plus, Mama don't like people like that and neither does Pops."
Melissa silently agreed. That night they had a family dinner. Ardian and Haleigh stayed upstairs in their room. They didn't want to interrupt that intimate family moment even though Mama told them they could join them. Caleb got up tapping his glass lightly to get everyone's attention.
"Thank you guys for being here and not trying to kill each other. That includes Marcie and Charles, welcome to me and Mamas family. Tomorrow I finally get to marry this cussing Christian. I'm very happy she wanted to give us another chance. Especially after Derrick and Candace but I promise you as long as you with me you be smiling 24/7."
Standing up Mama kissed him rubbing his bearded face.
"Y'all know I have beem through a lot. A lot of bad but being here. With my family about to marry this crazy man is the best thing to ever happen to me. I thank y'all my children for being by my side. Charles and Marcie welcome to my family. Treat my mean ass babies good because they deserve it. Katheryn I want to thank you for being my sister through everything. This is the happiest I've ever been."
Everybody laughed. Benjamin got up next causing Lainey and Cameron suck their teeth. What he did next surprised them, he got on one knee in front of Melissa.
"I know I'm an idiot. You probably call me a dumbass to Lainey all the time. I love you and I love Brooklyn. I want you to marry me? I won't say I'll become smart overnight but I just want you by side forever."
"Benny. I'll marry your dumbass."
A thousand watt smile took hold of Benjamin and Melissas faces as he placed the engagement ring on her finger.
"So we celebrating a wedding and an engagement. Now lets go out and dance. Cameron, Benjamin, and Lainey all shook their heads no but Charles encouraged him. That night Caleb embarrassed the whole family with his dancing.
AN: Fluff. Cause tonight is going to be a tear jerker. Sucks. Sorry.

OKAY. It’s Sunday night, I’m on the plane back to Chicago from Clexacon in Las Vegas. What a weekend man. I had such an amazing time with friends I already knew and ones I just met for the first time. However, much of how the con was run was an absolute shit show. I must’ve said a hundred times that being that they’d done this for like 3 years already, they should know better than to do the stupid kind of shit they were doing, and yet there we were. So that led to some crappy situations, but I still had a great time do to the awesome people around me. I can’t say I’d go again though, because it was just a very poorly run event and I’m (obviously) not afraid to call them out on it in public, because it’s clearly needed when they’re prioritizing getting every last dollar out of everyone rather than the safety/wellbeing of the guests and the experience of the congoers (and the sanity of their volunteers, for that matter. But I should start from the beginning.
I left off Thursday night right before trying to fall asleep. I say trying because sadly it did not come easy, I think I fell asleep finally some time around 4, which put me at like 3-4 hours of sleep for the night, which made me feel a lot more exhausted through all of the very long day I had. I think I woke up at 7:30 am on Friday, that sounds right. Threw the last of things together and got an Uber, picked up Jess and was on our way to the airport. Got through everything okay, for one reason or another they let us go through just the metal detector instead of the full scan machine thing which was nice because the whole machine is a giant pain. We got to our gate and waited, and got somewhat delayed but eventually got in the air. Landed about 1 pm Las Vegas time, so 3 pm for us, so it already felt like it’s been forever and we wanted to get there as soon as we could. We ended up taking a taxi to the place instead of dealing with their airport’s Uber procedures, whatever those were. It was a pretty short drive, so we got there and walked into the casino part, and proceeded to get very lost until we saw someone that looked like they would be going (take that to mean whatever you’d like) and begged them to help us which they readily did thankfully lol.
So with some help we got to the actual part the con was taking place at, and found our friends who were in line for the Avalance panel that was at 3 pm. They were fairly close to the front for the regular admissions at least, so we got fairly good seats. I was going to live tweet but since getting off the plane my signal had been very poor (apparently Verizon doesn’t get good reception in Nevada) and not only did the place not have WiFi, but some people were saying they actively dampened the cell phone signal to “keep people focused on gambling” or something like that which is wild, really, all of this leading to the conclusion that my battery was gonna die a lot quicker than normal and I couldn’t afford to live tweet. Clexacon is also really good about putting their whole panel’s online though (one thing to their credit at least) so I didn’t feel too bad about it. The panel was great though, Jes and Caity together are always fucking hilarious and they were honestly so bad at paying attention and staying on topic it was really funny. They definitely like, hinted heavily at several things upcoming in the rest of the season, I won’t get into it because I know some people don’t like spoilers so I’ll leave it there and say if you want to know more go watch the panel. It was really great though, and as was suspected, Katrina Law crashed it and it was hilarious.
After the panel we rushed over to Jes’ table as soon as we could, which took a minute because instead of the normal con set up where each celebrity has their own table, they were switching off tables in shifts more or less (a dumb mistake which led to issues when they needed the table for the next guest but still had a mile long line, one of many things they totally should’ve known better than to do). So we had to wait a minute and then get in line and wait for her to head over, which wasn’t too long. Jess got a photo signed because she had a nice new one and it let us talk to her lol. She was doing selfies but that wasn’t quite established yet, since the con had put out a whole statement saying there would be no selfies (and then the guests were like yeah right we’re gonna do them anyway, bless). So we talked to her for a few minutes about some spoilery stuff we had gotten told about and then moved on since she had quite a line already.
After that we walked around the merch hall for a few minutes before heading over to the photo ops, and oh what a chaotic mess that was! After a while we managed to get in the right place with the right people and then had to wait a while longer lol. But for that night we had a duo op with Caity and Jes with Season, Jayne, Jess and I, with a pose inspired by the breakfast club (I’ll post my crappy quality picture of the print out since they don’t have the digital downloads yet and don’t know when they will after this) which involved me lying on the floor lol so that was amusing, got to say hi to Jes and told Caity I’d see her tomorrow.
Once we were done with that we waited for a bit for other people that had different ops since they were all clumped together (singles for any of the three including Katrina, duos with any of them, or trios with all three) and then once we were all done we left to go to the Taco Bell, the infamous Vegas Taco Bell that you can get married in and was famously featured in Jess’ social media au that I didn’t read 😂 but it had become quite a big deal, so we walked for about 15 minutes till we got there. They were blasting music inside at like a way too loud volume, so after ordering and getting our food we ended up sitting at their little outside portion, where we could still hear the music but it wasn’t quite so bad, lol. So that was certainly an experience.
When we walked back to the con place we met up with some friends who had brought along some games and such for a game night, and we ended up playing games with them for several hours, which was very fun. We played one called The Resistance which is kind of like Mafia and whenever we play any game like that I will ALWAYS end up being the “spy” as it was in this case, and it happened both rounds we played 😂 it’s just more fun that way. We played a few different fun ones. It was getting late though and I was like high key tired, and since we weren’t actually staying at the hotel there because it was very expensive (though the rooms were very nice) so after a while Jess, Melissa, and I ubered back to the holiday inn where Melissa had gotten a room and was letting us crash with her lol. Our Uber that night was a red hummer, so that was wild. I was like getting deliriously tired at that point but I knew if I didn’t wash my hair it would look like shit in photo ops the next day so I forced myself to wash it quickly and then go to bed right afterwards.
I set my alarm for 8 or 8:30, I’m not sure which, but I got up and got ready for the day, grabbing a quick breakfast at the hotel before heading over to the con. The Nyssara panel was first thing that day but since we knew it was gonna be online anyway we decided to skip it in favor of Jes’ line on a hope that most people would be at the panel instead (there were actually a good number of people there, but I’m sure there would’ve been a lot more without the panel). So we waited a bit for her to show up and she started signing, then we had to wait a few minutes while she went and crashed the Nyssara panel of course in payback for Katrina crashing the Avalance one the day before, which we fully expected to occur lol. Then she came back and we got to her pretty quickly. I had her sign the op of her and Caity that we got the night before.
Once that was done we headed to the photo ops since they were shortly afterwards, also a shit show but no surprise at that point. I just had a Jes op, and I decided since I was wearing my Captain Marvel tank top I got from hot topic a few weeks ago I decided we should do the pose with our arms extended since that was their kinda thing, and it came out really well, I was happy with it. Once everyone was done with photo ops, which took a while longer, we went to the autograph/merch hall and decided to hit up Caity’s line while we could, I had her sign her side of the duo op from the night before and got some selfies, it’s always great to talk to her, Sara’s always gonna be my favorite character and a big part of why I love the fandom as much as I do so I always love getting to interact with Caity, and she seems like she remembers me pretty consistently at this point so that’s always nice.
Once we all got through Caity’s line Jes’ was still really long so we decided to go to the Black Lightning/ThunderGrace panel with Nafessa and Chantal, who were both super awesome and the panel was great. They were so much fun to get to talk to and it was good to hear the writers were playing the long game with their relationship since at the beginning of season 2 it looked like that might not be the case. Towards the end of the panel we were informed that Jes’ line had been capped, which was very weird because she was supposed to be signing till 5 and it was only like 3:45 at that point which is WAY too early to cap a line. So after the panel we headed straight over there to figure out what was going on. One of the other stupid things the con was doing was overpromising things to their VIPs and basically just letting them through over the regular admissions at a rate that was impractical and frankly just didn’t make sense. So there was a VIP line that was very long and looked like it might be being added to, and a shorter regular admission line. We basically decided to be stubborn though and see if we could play it out on the hope that if they tried to end it before we got there Jes would see us and want to talk to us basically, which I’m not sure how successful we would’ve been and did not at all know if it would work or not. But basically we planted ourselves at the end of the regular admission line on the premise that we were talking to our friend who had managed to get added to the line, and then as things evolved basically more people started getting in behind us which the volunteers were not happy about (I want to make it clear though, I’m not at all blaming the volunteers for the shittier parts of this weekend, that blame lies solely with the con and the decisions they made, including not training their volunteers for all the situations they should’ve been trained on, but the volunteers were just doing their job and I would never fault them for that) which was understandable but we were gonna try.
We eventually more or less got added to the line but there was zero guarantee we were actually going to get to see her.
At some point around 5 Jes wanted to stay through the line so she had to get moved to a different table since they were still doing their shitty system with the tables, and then had to lead the whole line over behind her, which we think they basically just put the entire VIP line in front of the regular admission people, even those who had arrived clearly after us, so we ended up waiting quite a while there with seeming little to no movement. After we had been waiting a little while they Black Lightning girls had come to the tables nearby and Nafessa didn’t have a line, so I ducked out quickly (with plenty of friends to save my spot ofc) to her table because I’ve wanted to meet her for a while now but never had the chance, and thankfully she was doing selfies so I got to talk to her for a bit and then take some selfies with her, she was really really great and I basically cried talking to her about how much I love the show and the character of Anissa so much and just how iconic it was to see the image of her standing there in her superhero outfits and having the bullets just fucking bouncing off of her after so many LGBT female characters were killed off often for very shitty reasons, I’m like tearing up just thinking about it now lol so I was really glad I got to meet her.
Once I finished there I ducked back into Jes’ line, which had finally seemed to move some so we were a little closer, but still had to wait a bit longer. Jes was a total champ because she absolutely did not have to stay for everyone there, but she chose to do so despite being super tired and worn out herself, so she gets major credit here. We got to see her finally though after going through way too much shit to get there lol, I got my op from earlier that day signed, but had to forego a selfie because I was out of cash lol. Oh well. It was sad because the only con coming up she has scheduled is the love fanfest which is in Barcelona this summer (and in case you were wondering flights to Barcelona for those dates are sitting solidly around $800) and we’re ofc not planning on attending that so having to say goodbye without knowing when we’d see her next was kinda sad (and of course we’ll be bugging HVFF like crazy to fucking invite her to their cons, ugh) but I was still really glad we got to see her.
When we finally finished there god we were all so wiped and hungry since it was almost 7 pm at this point and we hadn’t really eaten since breakfast, so we ended up taking an Uber to the closest In-N-Out which was of course a must whenever we’re somewhere there is one (usually California but in this case Vegas). It wasn’t terribly crowded so we were able to get a table and food fairly quickly, god their strawberry shake was so fucking good and their burgers and fries were great too. We stayed there for a while and just talked and had a good time before deciding to walk back since we now had food in our stomachs, lol (we were originally going to walk there but my stomach was already like mmmMNOPE and walking for 20 minutes would’ve been high key bad). Once we got back to the con place we met up with the game friends again and played for the rest of the night. We started with a game called joking hazards which is like cards against humanity but based on cyanide and happiness comics which I read religiously for years and you basically had to build the funniest comic strip and my entries had everyone cackling basically the whole time even if I didn’t win the round, it was just all really hilarious and fun. We moved on to some other games which were fun, around 10 or so Jess had to head to the airport because she had been planning on going to Star Wars Celebration Sunday (plans which got thwarted by unexpected snow in Chicago) so she was flying out that night and arriving at like 6 am Sunday morning. We kept playing till like 1 or so at which point everyone was just really tired so Melissa and I headed back to our hotel. I washed my hair again quickly and got ready for bed. One thing we messed up on was forgetting to bring any makeup remover wipes or otherwise makeup remover, and there’s only so much you can get off in the shower, so when I get home tonight I need to like, douse my face in makeup remover and get off all the damn mascara that I couldn’t get off for three fucking days. We headed to bed though, Melissa’s flight was early Sunday morning so we said our goodbyes and went to bed.
I was set to wake up to my alarm at 10 to an empty hotel room which did in fact occur, but it took a little longer for me to actually get out of bed because I was very tired lol, I don’t think I actually fell back asleep but I rested my eyes a bit more until like 10:26 at which point I convinced myself to get out of bed. I got ready and officially checked out of the hotel room (which just involved telling the front desk the room number and that we were checked out) and headed over to the con place, messaging a few various friends I had made since arriving since my original friends were now gone, lol. I met up with them shortly afterwards in the merch hall where we wandered around for a bit and I did buy some stuff, mostly small art stuff and a few buttons, before we headed to the short film festival that was taking place from 12 to 2. I grabbed a sandwich quickly from the little cafe they had and headed in. The films ranged between comedies and dramas of different subjects, they were all really good and several made me cry, one had me like on the verge of sobs at the end lol so yeah they were very good I’d say. Once those were finished they had a little talk with some of the film creators and actors that were there which was fun.
Once that event was done I headed back to the merch hall with one of my friends to find a few things, and once we were satisfied there we ended up walking out across the street to the New York, New York casino which had a shake shack, where I got a burger and a root beer float which was very good. So we ate and talked and had a nice time. We walked back to the con area after, my friend went to a pitch session and I went back to the merch hall for a final round before finding another friend and sticking with them for a bit, one of the tables had been doing a raffle so we waited for the results of that which was entertaining, then talked to a few vendors we knew, and ended up going back to my friend’s hotel room for a little bit. My flight was supposed to leave at 7:25 so I was planning on leaving the con for the airport around 5, but I had gotten an email from southwest saying it had been delayed half an hour, so I ended up staying until around 5:30 before saying my final goodbyes and getting an Uber to the airport.
The Uber ride was quick, check in was very easy and I breezed through security, again only having to do the metal detector, so I made it to the gate shortly after 6 and then had plenty of time lol. So I just sat and listened to podcasts and went on my phone while having it plugged into one of the outlets they had under the seats for about an hour or so until I got up and grabbed some Burger King for dinner, then returning and eating that while we started the boarding process, the flight before us ended up getting in a little late so I think our ultimate take off time ended up being like 8:10 or so. We’re supposed to get in a bit before 2 am Chicago time, which should be fairly soon since my phone is currently reading 11:25 pm Vegas time, which would be 1:25 am Chicago time. Of course I packed super light since I was carrying my backpack around all day for two of the days I was there, so I just have the shorts I wore today which was great for the 80 degree Vegas weather, but being that it FUCKING SNOWED in Chicago today I’m guessing they’re gonna be a bit less than adequate. Since I flew Southwest we’re getting into the airport that’s further from me, but the roads will at least be clear and you can just take the expressway up so it doesn’t take too much longer than the one that’s closer to me (which is always just a pain in the ass because it’s O’Hare but it’s where pretty much everyone flies out of except Southwest). So now I’m here, sitting on the plane and typing this. As things stand right now, Jess had gotten off of work tomorrow for Star Wars Celebration which she wasn’t sure she was gonna do on Monday but since today didn’t end up working out she’s gonna go, I was able to get a single day Monday ticket to go with her so we’re gonna get brunch at 10 and then head down to that con, lol, probably stay mostly in their merch hall and maybe meet up with some people, before going home to watch the Legends episode of course. And yeah, that should be fun. I’m running low on battery so I’m gonna stop typing for now, I’ll probably write a final few sentences once I’m home or almost home and about to go to sleep.
Okay, flight landed at 1:49 am, it’s now 3:08 am and I’m lying on my bed about to go to sleep. Goodnight peeps. Hope you had a good weekend too.

Departed Chap 1
This was originally on my ao3 but i’m impulse posting it here YEET (ima put all the chapters under #departed)
Ship: Slow burn Sprace
Warnings: Domestic Abuse mentions
It had been a long fucking day. Well, a long fucking week really between midterms and work at the Tae Kwon Do studio he instructed at, but today especially had dragged on and Spot Conlon was ready to take a hot shower and sleep. But of course, nothing was ever that simple. His evening plans were quickly squashed by the sound of weak knocking on his apartment door. Spot groaned and pulled himself up from his comfortable position on the couch, reluctantly unbolting the door and opening it. He was about to reprimand the person knocking for bothering him at eleven o’clock on a Friday night, but hastily shut his mouth when he took in the person in front of him.
“Race? What the fuck.” Spot said, his voice coming out a little louder than he meant it to. Antonio “Racetrack” Higgins, his best friend of five years, was standing outside his apartment door, nursing a bloody nose and several hand-shaped bruises on his exposed arms.
Race locked eyes with Spot, his gaze tired and annoyed, “Canya not raise your voice? My head hurts.” He mumbled, then shouldered past Spot and proceeded to kick off his shoes.
“Sorry,” Spot murmured, still trying to grasp the situation as Race gingerly laid himself on the couch, “But uh, you gonna tell me what happened?”
“No, I’ma sleep.” Race grunted.
“Racer, ya can’t just come to my apartment covered in bruises and blood and expect me not ta-”
“Sean, I know. I promise I’ll explain tomorrow, but I’m so exhausted and I really don’t wanna be awake right now.” Race said, his eyes already closed.
“Okay, but you are talkin’ tomorrow,” Spot said, finally moving away from the door, “Also, no sleep yet. Your face is bloody as fuck and you are not sleepin’ on my pillows like that.”
Race groaned and didn’t move, “Spottie…”
“Nope, c’mon, at least clean up,” Spot persisted, “You don’t even gotta get all the way up, just clean off ya face.”
There was a small pause and for a moment Spot wondered if Race had stubbornly started to fake sleep, then he heard a small, “Fine.”
Spot wet a paper towel in the kitchen sink, then quickly retrieved an extra pair of sweatpants from his bedroom.
“Here,” he said, handing both things to Race, who took them lying down, “Clean off and get changed, I’ll grab ya some blankets.”
Race didn’t reply and Spot watched for a moment as he pulled himself into a sitting position, wincing as he did so. He really did look like shit. Blood was covering the front of his shirt and there was a bruise on his jaw that Spot hadn’t seen before.
“Spot, I uhh, I appreciate you checkin’ me out, but could I have some privacy?” Race said, a tired smirk coloring his features.
“Oh,” Spot said, snapping out of his reverie, “Yeah, yeah sorry.”
He left to dig some sheets out of the hallway closet and was just gathering a pillow when he heard a small whimper then, “S-spottie? Couldya help?”
Spot turned to see Race with his jeans halfway off. The sweatpants were crumpled at his side.
“My chest is kinda, uh, bruised and my abilities ta move are compromised…” He continued, not making eye contact with Spot.
“Oh! Yeah, ‘course.” Spot said, making his way over to Race and sitting beside him. He carefully lifted Race’s legs into his lap and pulled off his pants off completely, then began to pull the sweatpants onto his legs.
When they reached his mid thighs, Race cleared his throat, “I can get ‘em from here.” He said, blushing slightly.
“Ya sure?” Spot asked as he watched Race struggle to pull them up farther, “Dude, lemme see your chest.”
Race paused his action, then swiftly pulled the sweatpants up the rest of the way, taking deep breaths after, presumably to stop the pain in his torso.
He paused for a moment, toying with the hem of his shirt before shaking his head, “My chest is fine, well, not entirely fine, but no ribs are broken. I checked. Can I please jus’ sleep?”
Spot sighed, “Fine, I’ll stop houndin’ ya.” He studied Race’s face for a moment longer before standing and grabbing a discarded sweatshirt from the chair nearest to him and handing it to Race.
“Here, so you don’t gotta wear a bloody ass shirt all night.” Race took it, but made no move to put it on, “If ya need anythin’ in the night, just shout. Night Race.”
“Night, Spot.”
XXX
The next morning, Spot woke up to the sound of the coffee maker turning on. He climbed out of bed and pulled on a pair of sweats. When he entered the kitchen, Race pulled another mug out of the cabinet.
“You’re movin’ around better,” Spot observed, noticing that Race had changed into the sweatshirt he had given him the night before.
Race only grunted in reply, busying himself in pouring coffee for the two of them. Once he was finished, he handed Spot a mug, then sat himself at the kitchen counter. Spot sat down across from him and worked on adding sugar to his cup.
Spot startled slightly when Race spoke quietly, “It’s never gotten this bad before. I mean, she’s always been harsh in her words and maybe a slap here or there, but she was drunk and I was annoyin’ her I guess and next thing I knew she was comin’ at me with a bottle and...” He trailed off, closing his eyes to compose himself.
Spot looked at him in shock. Race could only be talking about one person- his girlfriend, Melissa. They had been dating for a little over a year and at first, their relationship had seemed perfect. But then, Race would stop coming to group hang-outs, and when he did come, he seemed nervous. He would leave early and never seemed to participate as much as he used to. Spot had suspected this was Melissa’s doing for a while, but he never could have imagined it going this far and never brought it up. Though, given Race’s current condition, he wish he had.
Race continued, “I dunno what to do, Sean. I haven’t been able ta breathe in that relationship for a while, but now I’m suffocatin’.”
“Break up with her, you don’t gotta stay in that situation.” Spot said, softly.
Race looked up for the first time, fear evident in his eyes, “No! No I can’t-that would jus’ be..I mean she’d find me and- no I can’t.”
Spot’s eyes flicked down to Race’s hands, noticing for the first time that they were shaking. Race must have seen Spot looking, because he cleared his throat and gripped his mug tight enough to turn his knuckles white.
“Alright,” Spot sighed, “We can talk more about this later, alright?”
Race didn’t say anything, but he didn’t object, so Spot took that as a yes.
“Are ya hungry? I could make pancakes.” Spot suggested.
Race shrugged, then nodded, “With blueberries?”
Spot scoffed, “‘Course. It’s not like ya’d eat ‘em without.”
Race smiled slightly into his mug, “I hate how well ya know me.”
Spot chuckled lightly and said, “That’s jus’ the price of friendship, buddy,” before turning to his cabinets to get out the ingredients for the pancakes. It was mostly quiet for a few minutes while Spot cooked, save for the sound of their coffee mugs clinking and Race humming to himself. However, the comfortable quiet was interrupted by Race’s phone ringing.
“Shit,” Race muttered to himself.
“S’it Melissa?” Spot questioned, turning around to place the plate full of pancakes on the countertop.
“Yep,” Race said, distractedly. He sighed, then picked up the phone, standing up from his seat at the counter as he did so.
“Yeah?” Race said, meekly into the phone. Immediately, shouting could be heard from the other end of the phone and Spot watched in concern as Race flinched and drew his shoulders up to his ears, “I’m sorry- I said I’m sorry. No- I-I’m out right now. O-okay. Y-yeah. I’ll come back now. I- Melissa, no. I said I’d come-please.”
Spot could feel his heart break as he watched his best friend transform into a stuttering mess. After a few more seconds of Melissa’s audible shouting and Race trying to get a few words in, the call was ended. Race slumped back down in his chair and put his face in his hands.
“I’m not letting you go back there, Race.” Spot said, gently, yet firmly.
“I-” Race cut himself off as his voice cracked, and Spot was surprised to see his shoulders start shaking with what he presumed were tears. He’d only ever seen him cry once before, and they had both been drunk. He jumped into action when Race’s cries turned to sobs, quickly making his way around the counter so he could carefully rub a hand up and down his arm to ground him.
“I-I don’t know w-what ta do, Spottie,” Race choked out.
“We’ll figure this out, Racer, I promise.” Spot said, soothingly, although his heart was in his throat. It scared him to see his best friend breakdown like this.
“I’m scared,” Race whimpered.
“I know, I’m right here.”

Fic: Midnight Blues
Sequel to (Tried and True).  I am tempted to maybe do a small series with this for early MSR since I don’t feel like I write it enough. Anyways, enjoy. Post ‘Beyond the Sea’ and ‘Lazaurs’. Tagging @today-in-fic .
Scully was a forensic pathologist. She studied death. She examined, recorded, and cataloged it. She can give the dead voice. She spoke from beyond the grave when they no longer could. But experiencing death, on a personal level--well, nothing was easy about it. She had hoped her objective, rational scientific views would make the blows easier, waging a war against her own emotions that threatened to swallow her. So far, she had been winning but her defenses were waning.
The death of her father and seeing a vision of him right before the news of his death had been delivered. Jack coming back from the dead not as himself. They were still fresh on her mind, the barest disturbance sending pain through her inwardly. She had witnessed and experienced things she could not understand despite her attempts to explain it through science. Scully was beginning to have a lot of days like that, especially when it came down to working with Spooky Mulder. Except he wasn't spooky or weird. The more time she spent with him as her partner, the more he pushed and challenged her, the more she grew as a person. He respected her and treated her equally. The more she realized the rumors about Mulder were just that: rumors. But after the latest incident of Jack not claiming to be Jack, kidnapping her, that deranged woman, dying...she could not make head or tails of it. Jack's death and also ravaged her still healing grief of the loss of her father. Both weighed heavy on her like the cursed albatross around her neck.
So that Friday, when the clocked ticked to five o'clock on a Friday afternoon with the promise of a case-free three day weekend, Mulder perked up and smiled. "No cases, Scully and a three day weekend!"
"Huh?" She blinked and shifted her focus to him. "Oh yeah. Big plans, Mulder?"
He paused before answering her. Mulder had a lot of difficulties reading Scully. She kept her cards close to her chest and rarely let her emotions show except 'I'm fine, Mulder.' He had glimpsed at the woman named Dana Scully briefly when the FBI SWAT team stormed the building in her rescue but she was quick to recover. "You okay, Scully?"
She forced a smile that could have fooled almost everyone but him. He was slowly learning her tells. "I'm fine, Mulder. Just going to catch up some errands and work on a journal article. You know me, living it large."
Another thing that Mulder had noticed that Scully thought she hid from him was the dwindling social life that she used to have. He was not stupid. He heard things and he could make the connections. His late-night calls and dragging her across the country was beginning to take its toll. Only a month ago they were ready to kill each other over space worms on top of the world and somehow, someway, something shifted and sparked between them, a very primordial trust. Maybe it had been born the night she came to his hotel room in Bellefleur, but something had changed on top of the world and somehow, despite his crusade, she was becoming a very important aspect of his life.
"Nothing with your family?"
"I kind of wanna be left alone," she shrugged. Her blue eyes shifted towards her briefcase. "I have a lot to get done."
"I'm sure," he deadpanned.
"What about you?" There it was. That false cheerfulness.
"Oh you know, hanging out in chat rooms, talking conspiracies and what not."
Scully had finished packing her things. "Well, don't get into any trouble so I have to save your ass. I want a quiet weekend."
"Yes, ma'am." He gave her a playful smile and she returned it with a slight quirk of her lips. "Have a good weekend, Mulder."
"You too, Scully."
She took a deep breath, sighed, and walked out into the hallways, her heels clicking against the sterile floors, each one making Mulder wince as he could only imagine what was going on through Scully's head.
. . . .
Scully had sat in her car in the parking garage beneath the Hoover Building for a half hour trying to decide what to do. She watched random agents pass, even saw Mulder loosening his tie as he jogged to his car, and she sat there wandering her place in the universe. Etha left after her first case and the first late-night call. Probably for the best. After seeing Ellen at her son's birthday and Tom Colton being a prick, what had been her social network absolved into one person, not including herself. Although she was annoyed with the late night calls, she enjoyed them. She enjoyed verbally sparring with Mulder and how he saw her as an equal. She kind of wished that he would call her tonight but she told him not to. But what were the odds he would listen? Then again, he looked awfully happy. Maybe he had a date. She was aware of what the female agents and sectaries said about him. As she shook her head and pinched her nose, the grief came back as a tension headache, like a spike being drilled into her skull as punishment for her father's and Jack's death.
Fuck it. She needed to numb it. She needed to numb those threatening emotions that wanted to drown her. She was going to treat herself tonight.
. . . .
What many people did not know about Dana Scully is that she was a woman of simple taste. Her FBI persona screamed ice queen and her apartment declared itself worthy of a photo shoot in a home decor magazine. But deep down, she liked to be comfortable. Comfortable clothes, comfortable food, comfortable atmosphere.
After she left the Hoover building, she headed home to change into a pair of jeans and sweater. She grabbed her jacket and purse and left her phone. She drove to a dive bar at the other end of Washington near to Alexandria and let herself unwind. It started with a glass of cheap chardonnay in a wine glass that seemed to be made of plastic or cheap glass. She sipped it tentatively, trying to prolong the eventual buzz the alcohol would produce, but she grew hungry instead. Throwing her habit of eating healthy and dieting to the wind, she ordered a burger with onions, bacon, mushrooms, and cheese, and of course, onion rings, the obvious choice. As the bartender took her menu away, she chuckled to herself, imagining what Mulder would say if he could see her at this moment.
She took a deep breath and tried to visualize the moment. Her head was already lightheaded from the wine. The bar was smoky. She could smell someone smoking pot somewhere (those were the college days). The leather stool was too plump and made her feel like a child. She expanded her hands across the grainy, splintered wood of the bar trying to purposely get a splinter and forget at the same time. The grief was too much. To feel was too much. Maybe she should call Melissa tomorrow.
Suddenly there was a chuckle, loud and very familiar. She opened her eyes and clutched the short wine glass and bowed over her drink. She could not let Mulder see her like this, outside her armor and so exposed.
"Scully?"
Shit.
She closed her eyes and straightened her back as she felt a comforting hand graze her shoulder in greeting as he slid into the barstool next to her. She forced a smile and turned to him. Mulder smile faded as he read her face.
"You here with a date," he teased, knowing she was alone.
She swallowed and nodded curtly. "I was but he ran off. Some big meeting or something."
"Those can be annoying."
"They can." Silence ensued and she played with the wineglass uncertainly, fidgeting, something Mulder had never seen before. "I don't want to keep you from your friends."
"They'd understand."
"Mulder!" A short man with glasses called. "You coming, amigo?"
"Come on, Mulder!" A tall lanky man with blond hair and glasses added.
Scully closed her eyes and turned down her head, bowing as if in prayer. At that moment, Mulder still to this day does not know why felt bad...he felt sad...he felt the need to comfort his greenhorn partner who was supposed to spy on him but had, unknowingly, become his friend. She played with the wineglass. "I'm fine, Mulder. Really. Have fun. I'll see you Tuesday." He could hear how her voice strained to keep from breaking. "I'm fine. Really."
Mulder looked to Lone Gunmen and with a simple shake of his head and a frantic wave of his hand, they left grumbling. "You don't seem fine," he stated softly.
"Is that the profiler in you?" She gulped her wine and grimaced. "Am I that pathetic?"
"No," he spoke softly. "You're not."
He rose his hand and ordered a Shinerbock quietly. The bartender asked about food. "I already ordered," she supplied weakly. "A burger."
"You want to halves like we usually do?"
She nodded slightly, unable to keep her defenses from crumbling. Why was she acting like this? She kept quiet, trying to figure out how to regain control of her emotions in as Mulder ordered the fried veggies basket and cheese sticks for them. Why now, she pleaded, was she coming undone? The bartender passed him the beer and walked away. Mulder gazed at the tv, watching the late night basketball scores scroll across the screen. "This seems very unlike you."
She shrugged. "You get to see a side of me that no one usually does."
"Beneath the Ice Queen is a warm center?" She glared him in annoyance and he gave a warm smile. "Sorry but not sorry. It's nice to see you so..."
"Normal?" She sighed in exasperation and rolled her head. "I hate when people automatically assume that I don't have feelings."
"I didn't mean that, Scully."
"I know, Mulder." She sighed. "I just needed to mix things up."
"How so?"
"Are you asking as a shrink or my partner?"
"I'm asking as your friend."
The forbidden word slipped between them like a grain of sand in an hourglass. Insignificant but still so powerful. Scully gulped and cleared her throat. "We're friends?"
"I...I like to think so."
She nodded and focused on her wine. There was a long silence before she spoke again. "It's the deaths. My dad and Jack. I can't...I can't explain it, Mulder. I know I shouldn't feel guilty but I do. I feel like it is my fault." She finished the rest of her wine and Mulder grabbed her wrist lightly. "What?"
"For once, let go?"
"What is that suppose to mean?"
"Don't behind those walls I see every day," he spoke softly. Scully's eyes lingered on him cautiously. She had heard the same voice from on top of the world. "Come on, Scully. I can see every day how much it hurts you."
Fucking alien worms and the top of the world. Scully waved her hand and ordered a vodka soda with an orange slice. Mulder ordered himself a second beer. "You really want to hear what I have to say?"
"I'm better than a preacher," he told her, crossing his heart.
She bit her lip and suddenly just surrendered. She surrendered to her emotions and to feel. She submitted to being the perpetrator of her father and Jack's deaths. "It's my fault that my father and Jack died," she confessed softly. "If I had not joined the FBI my father would still be alive. If I had acted quicker Jack would still be alive." She snorted as her bartender brought her drink. "I'm supposed to be the brave daughter, the dutiful one. Dad had his hopes long ago that I was going to make the family proud and be a doctor at a famous hospital. I shattered him by joining the FBI. Jack. Oh, Jack, what false love." She downed her vodka in a few quick sips that left Mulder stunned. "I've always been attracted to powerful men. And with Jack...I don't know what I felt, Mulder, but I know it wasn't love. I never loved him." Scully had tears in her eyes. "It's my fault they died. If I had done something different, maybe they'd be alive. It's all my fault, Mulder, all of it."
It must have been the alcohol talking, Mulder mused because his Scully would never be this open. But he reached out and took her hand. When was the last time someone had touched her so...purposefully? Intimately? Would she trust him? Not emotionally of course. No, she had built stonewalls that no siege could penetrate around her inner self. However, underneath all that, the warmth between them. But at the base level, her hear knew. The warmth of his hand swallowing hers and vibrating through her entire being spurned a memory and she recalled being held on top of the world. That after everything, she could trust him.  Without thinking or control of herself, Scully threw herself uncharacteristically into his arms and cried. Mulder stood in shock, if he moved, something would go wrong. Not knowing what to do, he patted her shoulder and tried to speak soothingly. It was the briefest minute that seemed to last a lifetime. Quickly, as if coming out from under a spell, Scully reclaimed herself. She wiped her tears and looked embarrassed.
"I'm sorry for my outburst," she eventually admitted as the bartender brought her a third drink, more vodka for the pain and for her embarrassment. She was averting her eyes, fixated on the gnarled wooden bar top. "It's not like me."
He reached out to reclaim her hand and squeezed it quickly, a sign of solidarity. As she shifted her gaze to their joined hands. Mulder coughed and quickly withdrew it in a weak attempt to hide a cough. "Scully, you're okay. What do you say? Stay here a little longer with me? I'm starving and haven't eaten dinner yet. We have all those food coming and I'd hate to waste it."
"I get first dibs on the cheese sticks," she mumbled.
"It wouldn't be right if you didn't."
About twenty minutes later as Mulder and Scully in silence, their food arrived. The scent of greasy and unhealthy foods mixed with the atmosphere of the dive bar caused Scully hummed appreciatively. Without thinking, Mulder plucked one of her onion rings. They continued to ear in silence as the clock ticked and Mulder could really study the rare relaxed and causal Scully.
"You want to talk about it?" Mulder pushed the cheese sticks towards her.
"Not really. I don't want to be reminded how depressing my life has become." She shrugged. She reached for a cheese stick, dipped it in marinara, and took a healthy bite. "Their deaths reminded me how alone I really am. My life is the work and that's it. No time for social lives or anything else. You remember when you were chasing the Jersey Devil and I was on that date? I was hoping that you would call so I could go away. I would rather go chasing monsters with you than some lousy date."
He weighed his words carefully unsure if it was the alcohol or her talking. "I...I know this has taken a lot from you, and I know you consider me a little arrogant."
She scoffed. "A little?"
He gave bet a boyish smile. "A lot." She finished her drink and ordered another one. "I just want you to know I appreciate you and everything you've done."
"What have you done with Mulder and who have you replaced him with?"
"Haha, very funny."
Mulder cut the greasy burger in half without asking and deposited part of it on his own plate. "You really went all out. Mushrooms, onions, bacon, and cheese? I should ask if aliens abducted you?" he chuckled.
Scully was just beginning to feel the warmth in her cheeks, knowing her pale face was already flushed. But sitting her with Mulder, some other warmth was working through her. The way Mulder just reached into her personal space without asking, how normal it felt. Maybe wasn't truly alone. "Do you know the probability of us both being replaced by aliens would be, Mulder? Besides, you know little green men don't exist," she dismissed, reaching for the ketchup.
Mulder paused and smiled slightly as Scully slipped into the comfortable thing they had, whatever it was. "Yes, well, if you are a replacement, your previous version at least knew how to share." He took some of her onion rings as well and pushed the fried veggie basket towards her. "I hope I didn't order this for nothing. You know I only eat the fried pickles."
She smiled softly and picked up a fried mushroom cap. She dipped it into the ranch sauce and took a bite, hissing slightly at how hot the food still was. He chuckled at her and she slapped his bicep. "So, did I steal you from those strange little people?"
"Hm? Oh, the Gunmen? No."
"The Gunmen? Are they a band or something?"
"Something like that," he smirked. He took a large bit of the burger and spoke while still chewing his food. "I'd much rather spend it with my partner anyway."
Scully was surprised by the admission and she knew he was telling the truth. She gave a knowing smile and looked down at her own food. It wasn't one of his late night calls that she got but this was so much better. He looked up to the TV and frowned. "I can't believe they're already talking shit about the Yankees and it isn't even spring training," he cried foul.
"You like baseball?" she asked, wondering what else she did not know about him.
He nodded and flashed her another smile (there are a lot those tonight) and she somehow knew they were just for her. "Yankees fan and Knicks fan are the main two. What about you, Scully?"
She shook her head slowly. "I really never had an interest or time to watch sports, Mulder."
"Really? Huh. Well, maybe we can go to Camden Yards and watch a game this spring." He shrugged absently. "Let's play twenty questions. You asked me one, I'll ask you. Who's your favorite author?"
She blushed and shoved an onion ring in her mouth to give her time to think. "Truman Capote," she said, still chewing the food. She swallowed the onion ring and smiled. "My turn."
. . . .
In a cab, she slept blissfully against him in thanks to the alcohol. It was two a.m. and in a rare change of routines for him. Friday nights, if he was not on a case, were either spent bullshitting with the Gunmen or drinking a local bar alone and passing out. But tonight...there must have been a blue moon or something. When he saw Scully sitting alone at the bar, he had been moved by pity. How many nights had he spent in the same position? So he went to check on her. Then he was moved to make her feel better. Caught between the guilty of death she should not carry and loneliness, he stayed with her. Something must have changed in the few short months between them that he couldn't explain. But he ended up staying, splitting dinner, talking and laughing, learning things about the small redhead agent that was sent to spy on him who he, at the end of this night, considered a likely friend and guaranteed ally in his quest. She only sought to help him and he would return the favor however he could. Right now, that was being the pillow to his drunk and passed out partner.
She murmured something and snuggled against his side as the cab slowed to a stop outside her Georgetown apartment. Mulder quietly paid the cabbie, ignoring the smirkful glares and got out of the car first. He did not have the heart of wake her so he fished for her keys and grasped them lightly in his hand as he bent back into the cab and lifted her easily. She really was small, he smiled slightly. Carefully he maneuvered her up the wake way and down the hall to her apartment. He unlocked the door with some difficult and closed the door with his foot.
Unsure of what to do and spying a blanket on the back of her couch, Mulder carried her into her bedroom and lay her on the bed. This was completely unknown territory for him and also very out of character, but somehow, she was bringing things out in him that he thought he no longer had. He strolled out into the living room, grabbed the blanket, and draped it over her. She murmured something in her sleep and he smiled. Taking a moment to sit on the edge of the bed, his fingers lightly traced the shape of her cheek, and he smiled.
She murmured something, waking up in a haze. The darkness hid their faces but she somehow knew it was him. "Mmph. Where are we?"
"At your apartment," Mulder spoke in a low voice. Scully closed her eyes, remembering when he held her at the Icy Cape and how his chest rumbled when he spoke like that to her. She let the memory wash over her like a wave. "I'm going home. Call me in the morning okay?"
"Mm 'kay," she yawned. "Mulder?"
"Yeah, Scully?"
"Thank you. For everything tonight."
"It's nothing, Scully."
"To me it is." She yawned again. "Not alone. Got you."
"You're talking nonsense."
"'M smarter than you. Know what I'm talking about." She blindly groped for his hand and gave it a quick, light squeeze. "Take my apartment key. I have a copy. Meant to give that to you last week."
Mulder was touched by the additional gateway into her personal space. "Okay. Call me tomorrow when you wake up to let me know you're okay. I'll have a copy of my key for you, Monday."
She nodded. "Call you. Got it." He hesitantly reached for her face again and gently traced her cheek before getting up. "Thanks, Muler. Still got you."
"Always, Scully," he spoke softly. He bowed his head and smiled slightly. Quietly, he left the bedroom door and shut the door behind him.

Chapter 4
As the loud music started playing, and the 50k people in the audience went crazy, you could sense the nervousness in the air. It was show time. You were in your room, but it felt like you were there in the crowd, as the bass caused the walls of your room to vibrate, and the cheering was shaking the ceiling. That, mixed with the adrenaline running in your veins, caused by the moment with Jimin, made you feel almost ecstatic, alive. Your first night had been a success so far. As the show was starting, you knew you had to spend most of the night trapped in your room, waiting for them to come there for outfit changes during the show, but Melissa pulled you out of your room to go explore behind the stage. She held your hand as you ran together through the hallways to right behind the stage to get a peek of the show. However, you were stopped in your tracks by a stage manager, who asked you where you were going. “We just wanted to take a look at the stage”, Melissa bribed and fluttered her innocent eyes to him. The manager was quiet for awhile, but accompanied you to the stairs leading to the stage. “You can watch from here, but make sure you do it when the lights are on the stage, so they can’t see you”, he introduced. You and Melissa looked at eachother excitedly, being surprised that the manager gave in so easily. You were hanging close to the stairs when the manager ran off somewhere. He came back with the members following him, looking all glammed up and ready for the stage, with microphone wires strapped up on them. The manager said something to his mic, and then lead the boys to the stairs. “They’re ready for you”, he said and the boys started walking up the stairs and onto the blacked out stage one by one. They didn’t seem like they noticed you next to the stairs, until Jimin walked past and winked at you. It was dark, so it was only visible if you looked into his eyes, but Melissa had also noticed it. “Did he just-”, Melissa said and turned to you. You were frozen in place. “Good luck out there!” Melissa screamed to the boys, jumping up and down out of excitement. When the lights turned on and the music started, you both crawled up the stairs and peeked behind the curtains to see a huge stage and a part of the insanely large crowd. The lights were flashing in your eyes, but yours were tightly glued on one person. It was so fascinating to see him switch his personality to a stage one, but you could tell he was in his element as he moved to the music and started singing. He transcended talent. You felt light-hearted, knowing he didn’t give up on you, even after your moment ended quite crummy. You still had plenty of time with him, it was only the first show of the many more to come.
The boys popped into the room throughout the show, dripping with sweat and you helped them change outfits quickly. You didn’t really have time for chit-chats. The boys who were once goofy and loud, were now dead serious and proficient, to the point where it was kind of intimidating. You didn’t even dare to open your mouth, unless it was you asking them to lift their arm so you can adjust their shirt. It was weird seeing them like this, but something about it screamed tempting. They were hot. You were sure everyone else thought so too, and the loud screams from the audience confirmed it. There was like a stigma between the boys and the whole world around them, leaving everyone breathless with the power of just their presence alone. Something about it made you want to fight the feeling even harder. You didn’t wanna be just another one to fall for their infatuation. Even if your work practically forced you to, you didn’t want to be one to kiss their asses. None of the boys expected you to, because they were still surprisingly humble, and felt almost awkward if somebody would do a favor for them. But the state they were in when working, made it easy to label them assholes. But they weren’t, no matter how hard you wanted them to, because it was easier to brush off any attraction towards them if they would have been. Even Jimin was oddly professional, his eyes looked hazy when you helped him get changed. It was like he didn’t even see you, because he was so caught up on his stage persona. His stare was empty, but you could tell there was a lot going on in his head, mind most likely rushing through the choreo. Once he was changed, he looked at himself in the mirror, brushed some of his hair up the way he often did, and rushed out of the room. You wanted to reach for his arm and pull him back, maybe to tell him good luck out there or ask him if he was alright, but you knew you couldn’t. You’re not allowed to. And you weren’t sure if he even wanted you to, he looked so cold that he would have probably just pulled his arm off you. You got your head back to the work, but couldn’t help the empty feeling in your gut.
The rest of the show went in the same patterns. The quick pace was physically challenging and it was impossible to not break a sweat. As the fireworks went off, meaning the show had come to an end, all of the exhausted boys ran into your room at once. You didn’t even have time to assist any of them with changing, when they had already stripped and rummaged through the boxes of their regular clothes. They were out of that room as soon as they were in, and you were left to pick up their sweaty, confetti covered performance outfits off the floor. You finished your work in peace, and gathered all of the dress bags. As you walked outside to bring all your stuff back to the van, you saw a glimpse of the boys getting into a taxi. You stood there watching as the car rushed through the crowds on it’s way to the airport, as a crew worker helped you pack the van.
You gathered all your personal stuff and left the venue with Melissa and other staff workers. Both yours and Melissa’s jaws dropped when you saw the private plane you’d be flying in. As you walked through the plane looking for a seat, you saw one free seat in front of Jimin. You stopped to consider sitting there, and just as he turned his head to look at you from underneath his oversized bucket hat, Melissa called you from the other side of the plane, gesturing you to sit at the seat next to her. You quickly continued walking, embarrassed that you almost ditched your friend to sit across Jimin, who clearly was disinterested. The plane ride went smoothly, you and Melissa sharing her headphones and listening to music, or leaning on each others shoulders while dozing off.
You were definitely not used to waking up in another country, when you finally landed in Tokyo, Japan. Tiredly, you walked through the airport with your worn out makeup from yesterday still on your face. You had completely forgotten about this part of your job, when the doors separating the arrivals opened, and you were faced with a huge crowd of paparazzis, fansites and fans, the flashing lights and screams making you feel dizzy. You covered your face as you were some of the first ones to walk in. You looked to your sides, trying to see where Melissa was to get some assistance from her, but noticed she was nowhere near you. You figured she was probably walking further behind, since she had stopped to go quickly get a coffee. You stood in place, waiting for her as all of the staff passed by you. The screaming intensified when the boys walked in. You noticed them being much more lively again, as they had probably prepared to greet the fans. You also noticed how Jimin’s smile was beaming, as he had taken off the hat covering his face. He was looking at you. A smile spread across your face, as you decided to walk with him, but when he walked towards to you, you felt his shoulder brushing yours as he just walked past you. You were left off with an ignored and defeated feeling as you watched him disappear into the crowd. You felt someone poking your cheek and you looked up to find Melissa with two cups of coffee. She handed the other one for you and you left the airport together.
You had a whole day free for yourself, since the next show would be tomorrow. You spent it mostly in your hotel room, but got out around dinner time, since you had promised to accompany Melissa for a fancy dinner downstairs, in the hotel’s restaurant. You decided to put a little bit more effort to the way you look, choosing a dress instead of your usual pants and shirt combo. For a stylist, you were oddly shy to wear any outstanding looks. Melissa had invited some of her other hair and makeup friends, and you sat at a big round table. You tried your best to socialize as much as you could, knowing this was a good chance for you to finally get to know other staff. And everybody seemed easy to get to know to. Normally this type of successful socializing would make you feel positively charged, but for some reason you felt drained, the recently happened events stuck in your mind. It was easy to cover it up by pretending to be listening to everyone around you, but in reality you were drifting off.
As the hours passed, most of your new friends had left to go back to their rooms to prepare for tomorrow’s new busy schedule, the only people left in the restaurant were you and Melissa, plus some other girl who went by the name Soomi. You were ready to go to bed, but Melissa pulled you to the side, bribing you to go for a few drinks with them into the bar. You only said yes, when she brought up how she would feel awkward to go there alone with Soomi. The bar was on the same level in the hotel as the restaurant and soon you were sat at the fancy wooden bar stools picking out your poisons for the night. Soomi was hesitant to buy all three of you some popular Korean alcohol, and honestly you were down for whatever, as long as it could numb your mind. After a few drinks, you had your head hanging loosely on your hands as Soomi and Melissa were giggling and having the time of their lives right next to you. You weren’t sure how much time had passed (or how many drinks you had downed) but it was surely enough to make you almost doze off. Melissa tapped your shoulder and told you they were going to use the bathroom, and as you lifted your head you saw how both of them looked down at you in pity, then looked at each other and tried to hold in their laughters. Normally you would have been offended, but this time you allowed it, you knew you were a mess. As they walked off, you turned back to rest your elbows and head on the counter. You felt someone sit on the stool next to you. “And what would it be for the gentleman?” The bartender asked the form next to you. “A manhattan please” there was a pause, “oh, and a water, please”. “Coming right up”, the bartender said as he turned around to mix the drink. You felt a light tap on your shoulder, and you lifted your head up slowly to see a glass of water being shoved to you. “Drink”, you turned to your side to see it coming from a familiar man sitting next to you. Your eyes were frozen on him, when it took your blurred out brain a while to figure out where you’ve seen this man before. “Had a rough night?” He continued. Fright washed over you, as you realized it was a man you were working for. Or more specifically, working with. You felt humiliated that he had to see you in a state like this, and the best option for you was to ignore him and leave the situation, or at least that’s what your drunken self thought. As you got up from the chair, you stumbled and almost fell, before you felt a pair of toned arms catching you. “I’m so sorry, you shouldn’t see me in a state like this”, you apologized as he helped you back onto your feet. “Don’t worry about it, you should just sit down for awhile and sip on the water I gave you”, he said and you sat down. “Thank you...What was your name again?” You said and realized how it came out much more slurred than you had meant to. He laughed. “It’s Taehyung, but you can call me Tae”. “Sorry, I must have ruined your image of me by being a drunk idiot. I’m definitely not as professional as you’d think”, you confessed, taking a sip of your drink. “It’s okay, I’m not professional either”, he smirked. “What are you even talking about? It’s like this beast took over all of you yesterday when the show started. You were all so focused on the show, I don’t think you were even human! So yes, you are professional”, you explained waving your hands in the air exaggeratedly. “A beast?” He laughed. “Yeah, it was scary. I was scared”, you said lowering your tone. “Well I don’t bite, unless you want me to”, he said his eyes narrowing. “Please, is that the best you can do? I thought the famous Kim Taehyung had more in him, than the overused phrase people in middle school used to say”, you rolled your eyes at him. He just scoffed and poured his drink down his throat all at once. “Is there a reason you’re sat here all alone almost blacked out drunk?”, he quizzed. “Hey, I’m not almost blacked out drunk!” You defended. “Not anymore, thanks to me”, he ran his hand through his hair. You wanted to call him an asshole for that, but you knew he was right, so you just swallowed your pride. “I was here with some friends, but I’m starting to think they left me”, you said stirring the glass in your hands. “Why would they leave you like that? I know I wouldn’t”, he responded. He was almost too smooth, making you want to push him away, but you were glad he was keeping you company. “I was annoying, I kept complaining about my miserable love life”, you scoffed. “Complain to me”, he said turning to you. “Oh you don’t wanna hear it, it’s stupid really. It’s so stupid that it’s not even love. I’ve just been so desperate that I turned nothing into something” you paused, “You know what? I think I just realized that now, you said turning to him, maybe revealing too much already. “See, I’m already making you feel better”, he responded with a cocky smile. You smiled back. “I think I should head back to my room now”, you told him. “I’ll come with you, to make sure you get there without passing out on the way”, he smirked and grabbed your hand to pull you up from your chair. “Idiot”, you sighed.
As you finally approached your door and used the keycard to get in, he leaned on the wall and looked at you. “What? You’re not coming in, you know that right?” You teased him, but you were serious. “Too bad”, he smiled and scanned your body. He looked almost too happy to be turned down like that. But little did you know, he was just glad he got to spend even a fraction of his night with you. “Thank you, again..and sorry, again”, you said softly and stepped inside, closing the door between you two. Taehyung stood in place for a while smiling, before returning to his room.
