#this might be stupid and I’m definitely overthinking it #but this baby will be here any day now #and I’m excited for that to happen!#but the birthing center is a little over an hour away #and realistically once we get the kids where they need to go and get on our way #we’re looking at 1 1/2 - 2 hours from the point where I know without a shadow of a doubt that this baby is coming #and us getting to my midwife #the last few days I’ve been in prodromal labor and it’s SO ANNOYING!#because I’ll be tracking timing and intensity for HOURS and then everything stalls out 😑#but I can’t let it lure me into a false sense of security because both my other labors were very fast once my water broke #like super fast- 9 hours for my first baby and 3 hours for the second one #there’s a very real chance that if my water breaks before we’re on the road I will have to deliver in the backseat myself #and in that case…. wtf do you do????#I know you don’t cut the umbilical cord yourself and I’m assuming we would be going to an emergency room instead of the birth center #because that’s a risky situation #but would we just pull over and wait for an ambulance?? it’s been 20 degrees or less all week #do we keep driving and is that safe to do while holding a newborn?? is anything about this situation safe??#I’d probably have a very fun conversation with emergency services and they’d help #and I know it’s unlikely but it’s not impossible! so my brain has to know how we would handle things #in any case there are extra towels and blankets waiting to be taken to the car at a moment’s notice- just in case 😅

so from tango’s stream earlier today we know that, as of an hour before the secret life recording this week, etho was audibly kind of sick and exhausted. which is already a recipe for Some Kind Of Session (see: pearl double life). however I think when we add in that etho was part of one of the biggest, most interesting character storylines last week that the entire fandom is probably waiting with baited breath to see more conclusion for (me included) its REALLY FUNNY. etho has to follow up sacrificing the entire server for cleo this week while. sounding like he wants to fall asleep on his microphone. good luck,

Batman fun fact! Did you know that Scarecrow’s toxin doesn’t always cause fear? Sometimes it does the opposite! In Detective Comics #571, he wields a variant that completely inhibits the biochemical fear response, preventing people from feeling any concern for themselves or using basic common sense. He runs a racket administering it to star athletes, who take huge risks and get badly injured. Then they’re willing to cough up a lot for an antidote. Batman and Robin - here Jason Todd - catch on, but Bruce is dosed with the reverse fear toxin; since his intelligence is his greatest strength, being too overconfident and reckless to think twice about anything makes him his own worst enemy.

This premise was adapted in the Batman: The Animated Series episode “Never Fear”. There we see that with no fear of losing his moral integrity, Bruce becomes cold and merciless to criminals. Robin - here Tim Drake - has to catch somebody he leaves to fall off a building, tie him up to stop him endangering himself and others and give him the antidote to prevent him murdering Scarecrow.

But in the comic book, Jason is kidnapped by Scarecrow. (He gets gassed, and hallucinates Bruce dying and telling him that it was his fault.) He isn’t around to keep Bruce in check as he goes to rescue him through a series of death traps that he can’t resist cutting it as close as possible in. So how does Bruce not go off the deep end? How does he not lose sight of what’s important? Not lose himself?

Because even a drug designed to shut down stress at the most fundamental level can’t overpower his true worst fear. The Dark Knight might feel fearless…

but a parent never is.

Ellie is 14 years old. And while she's, in some ways, mature for her age, she should not be asked to sacrifice herself for the whole world. "She should have been given a choice and we all know she would have been fine with dying if that meant there is a cure." Absolutely not. You do not ask a 14 year old to make a choice like that. Hell, I'd argue that it's not even a choice. The fact that it's adults that would tell her that makes it even more messed up. These cool adults who are out there trying to save people tells you that you are special, that you're the key to save humanity. Of course you're going to listen to them. Especially if you've gone through the things Ellie's been through. If she as an adult wants to make that decision, sure. But not when she's a scared, vulnerable child.

Should Joel have told her that he killed all of them to save her? Probably. Then he could have explained that she's valuable, not because she's possibly the key to a cure. But because she's a human being that has feelings, that deserves to live. And you could argue as much as you want that she's old enough or mature enough to make that choice. But I don't agree. Yes, she seems to be like that, we see her being snarky and tough but the more Joel shows that he cares about her, the more she lets that mask slip. And she acts like a child would act with their parents.

If her only goal was to reach the fireflies so that she could give herself to them to do whatever with her so that they could find a cure. She wouldn't have been so angry/upset that Joel didn't want to take her, why would it matter who took her there? Because Joel cares about her, and having him let her go hurt her. She could have left Joel to die and gone to find Tommy so that he could take her, like Joel asked her to do. But she didn't because she cares about him. The way she clings to Joel when he finds her and he calls her baby girl should tell you that she isn't ready to make a decision on whether she should sacrifice herself or not. SHE IS A CHILD. And Joel allows her to be a child.

I honestly have no problem with him killing them all to save her. "He took the choice from her!" What choice? They didn't give her a choice, they didn't tell her what would happen to her. And do you really think that they would ever give her a choice. If she'd said no, do you actually believe that they would go "Ah, well. Nothing we can do then, off you go with your new dad. Bye!" Don't make me laugh. They would have just done what they did now. Sedate her and begun to harvest her for what they needed. That's not a choice. She NEVER had a choice, Joel didn't take the choice from her because it was never there. It would have been an illusion of choice. She's also traumatised, most recently from her run in with David. And you want her to make a literal life or death choice?? I completely understand why Joel decided to go on a killing spree, he's protecting a vulnerable traumatised CHILD from people who doesn't care about her, who just wants to use her body for spare parts.

It's not about choice or not having a choice, it's about being valued as a person and not having your life taken away from you by vultures.
