TGS MEDIEVAL AU :0

Is this Historically accurate? no. Does that matter? no.

Alright, This is gonna be a lot, so thou shalt be warned

In the Au, Robert is a prince and Lanyon Sr. is the King, they rule over a small kindom somewhere in England - name TBA (so not like real monarchies which rule over entire countries etc.) The premise is basically; The Lanyon's personal/private doctor recently passed away so they call in a new doctor/chemist from Scotland - did you guess? yep, It's Jekyll. Hyde exists before Henry/Edward meets Robert (I haven't worked out the exact logistics about it yet, but I will) Jekyll/Hyde are more Chemists/Alchemists than Doctors but they are both still very good doctors regardless (so they don't really wear the 'plague mask' thing) I aged only Jekyll, Hyde and Lanyon down to about their early 20's so it matches around the original timing of when J&H met Robert in TGS. There are other smaller reasons but they aren't to important, all you need to know is that it doesn't really change anything

Lanyon is betrothed to Everly from a neighbouring kingdom -this is where it differs slightly from TGS, it's a political marriage not a lavender marriage. Neither Robert nor Everly are happy about this however, they are both only children in royalty so they don't really have an option.

Hyde is essentially the local gremlin that has in-built eyebags and a sense to sell you things not very discreetly that he probably shouldn't be selling. His Cape is comedically large and has a very extensive collection of illegal powders, drugs, and other nefarious items. Almost everybody knows Hyde becasue at some point they have all needed some rare item from him. - this is where the blackfog comes in (yes it exists!) the Blackfog is basically the same but Hyde really wants to go so he can buy/sell lots of items for his little side-business he has going on, however Lanyon Sr. is opposed to it and it's existence because well... illegal.

*Hyde also goes by: The Spirit of [insert Kingdom's name] at night (soooooo original, ik)

Jekyll stays pretty much the same, He really cares about his reputation so he can move up on the social ladder and create his own Science business at some point, and I mean he doesn't want to make a fool of himself in front of the King of all people, that wouldn't be a very good look, would it?

In this universe, The lodgers are all citizens of the small kingdom and they all sort of have different occupations/roles in the town. They can't all be scientists, but do not fear because they still as equally crazy and chaotic as before. Rachel is the Lanyon's personal chef but she also helps run the bakery in town with Mr. Doddle. Jasper looks after most of the animals and creatures in the kingdom, he used to be a farmer but moved to get away from home. I am yet to work out how Jekyll and Jaspers relationship dynamic stays the same in this universe but I will figure something out.

There is A LOT of Jekyon and Lanyde going on here, so I've got something for everyone, (there may or may not be a masquerade at some point...) and it's not just centred around romance, there is lots of other plot stuff happening so do not fear my ace/aro friends (or just people who aren't a fan of romance)!

That's most of it for now... I'll draw some more stuff at some point and give some extra details, If you have any questions please ask (my asks are open) I'd love to hear from you all!!! Don't be afraid to offer any suggestions or other criticisms. Maybe I'll write a fanfic one day who knows, we will see.

People are acting like Hyde wouldn’t punch them in the face, or curse them out for saying that.

Hyde is an asshole, who explicitly stomped on a kid and ignored her screams to go off and do whatever they were doing, and killed a man with hysterical pleasure, and a rush of adrenaline.

And those were the things they got caught for!

What the fuck were the unspoken things they were doing, for Jekyll to say that he was in wonder of his own depravity?

Fucker is a grown ass man!

They’re ugly! With pale, unhealthy looking skin, and hairy, knobbled hands. With a sharp expression, and a displeasing, creepy smile, that raises the hairs on the back of your neck. A husky, broken voice, timid but also bold.

(A contradiction, in and of itself.)

And with a face that makes even the most dry and unemotional of people angry; even to the point of wanting them DEAD!

Hyde is 20 years of repressed emotions finally allowed to let loose.

Yes, he’s short. No, that isn’t a problem for them.

Have you ever met an angry short person? A truly furious person. How about an angry short person who’s murderous? Yes? You have?

How about an angry short person who’s murderous and is dead sure they won’t face any consequences?

How about a freak, that even from a distance, is repulsive. Who hisses, and does not give a fuck about anything or one other than themself.

Call them a baby. I dare you. See what happens to your corpse.

Is he still your meow meow after beating someone unconscious, and laughing insanely?

Is he still your ‘little guy who did nothing wrong’ after he stabs someone? Watches the blood drain from their wound, and leaves them to die alone?

Are they still your ‘silly little guy’ when they whisper terrible things about others into their ears, and watch the ensuing fight with a wide, almost evil smile, and a hysterical cackle.

When they tear the flesh off of someone’s arm, just because they can.

When he dresses in drag, and fucks whoever they can, and spits at people, claws like an animal, and acts horrendously.

Are they still?

I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY BUT NEVER KNOW HOW TO PUT IT INTO WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS PROBABLY SUCKS TO READ. but again plssss hear me out. talking more about hydes impulsiveness cuz its not just 'murder kill drugs violent kill sex murder'

im not a doctor in any way but i do wanna say that impulsive thoughts do have some reasoning for being there, though it may be extremely stupid and dangerous. ((btw im not talking about what causes the lack of self control, im talking about why the impulsive thoughts are that thought.)) most impulses come from either the seeking of some feeling (most often hysteria, thrill, or humor) or experiencing things you havent (such as what does this feel like? what happens to me if i do this? you may already know by common sense, but the curiosity isnt calmed by that) but other impulses like stealing not only come from the possible thrill, but the reward of it. the entire reason stealing is such a strong and common impulse is because you know the item youre stealing has some value to you, its instinct to take what can benefit you. even when blurting random shit out, theres a reason your brain thought of it in the first place. but most of the time impulsive thoughts are from craving thrill or curiosity. !!!importantly: what the brain perceives as having somee sort of reaction depends on how disordered and nurtured the mind is. its unique per person

this is not only why hydes impulses arent the same 4 things over and over, but why a lot of impulses are really strange and unusual. because of jekylls stress of maintaining an extremely respectable and gold hearted genius rep. and the amount of hours he spends working on this, it makes sense for his and therefore hydes impulses and desires to be the opposite, something risky and dangerous and frowned upon. to get some form of euphoria or freedom he typically doesnt get but craves ohhhh he craves it so bad. but this can be literally anything, not just violence and drugs. it can range from physical or psychological self harm to breaking furniture to eating unsanitary and inedible things to mocking people to literallylyly anythinggg!!!!

this man is not only here to have sex and do 1886 drugs he is here to be everything jekyll wants to be but cannot without serious backlash and consequence!!! he is the traumatized animal instincts of the mind!!! do not limit this man to 4 actions. edward hyde does stupid shit like throw glass at birds and then eats the bird and also the glass bcs fuck you and also im hungry!!!!1 he pisses in peoples drinks probably in front of them cuz thats rlly fucking funny!!! Love The Guy.

With Jekyll, it was a thing of vital instinct. He had now seen the full deformity of that creature that shared with him some of the phenomena of consciousness, and was co-heir with him to death: and beyond these links of community, which in themselves made the most poignant part of his distress, he thought of Hyde, for all his energy of life, as of something not only hellish but inorganic. [...] I, who sicken and freeze at the mere thought of him, when I recall the abjection and passion of this attachment, and when I know how he fears my power to cut him off by suicide, I find it in my heart to pity him. [...] Nor must I delay too long to bring my writing to an end; for if my narrative has hitherto escaped destruction, it has been by a combination of great prudence and great good luck. Should the throes of change take me in the act of writing it, Hyde will tear it in pieces; but if some time shall have elapsed after I have laid it by, his wonderful selfishness and circumscription to the moment will probably save it once again from the action of his ape-like spite. [...] Will Hyde die upon the scaffold? or will he find courage to release himself at the last moment?

All of this comes together to provide the most interesting part of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The battle between perceptions of just who and what Edward Hyde is.

Is he solely the primordial selfishly reckless id of an otherwise upstanding and deeply repressed man? If so, Jekyll's constant attempts at disconnection must be read as a sinner attempting to paint the self he becomes while intoxicated as another awful entity, a thing that delighted in cruelty while it could be gotten away with and is now an excuse to point fingers at the mirror or the Devil to keep Jekyll's own hands clean, if only in his mind.

Is Edward Hyde simply Henry Jekyll as he might have been in another life? One sans repression but still loaded with Jekyll's intelligence and most basic wants. If so, then he is not an impulse given flesh, but a doppelganger in all but appearance. The Self, made Other. He is not an imbecile or an inorganic flaw, just Jekyll himself pulled through a sieve until only the untethered Wants and Hates remain.

What if Edward Hyde began as inorganic, as no more than a bleak reflection of Jekyll, but eventually coalesced into an entirely separate thinking identity? A new soul that budded from the original like a branch? A mind-son or a conjoined twin revealed decades too late. If this is the case, only then might half of Jekyll's excuses and reasonings hold water--but only half.

Because Jekyll himself either cannot grasp or refuses to fully accept all of what Edward Hyde is. The amount of contradiction in Hyde's actions and Jekyll's attempts at defining him go in too many directions. He's a clump of wicked and delightful impulse who wears Jekyll as a costume. He's artificial. He's real. He's an it. He's a he. He is Jekyll. He is himself.

Even at the end, Jekyll fumbles with his initial estimate of Hyde's state. A coward who hides in him and the lab to avoid the death penalty! Yet in the last lines he admits to the possibility that Hyde will decide to end himself rather than risk further pursuit or a trip to the gallows.

He claims to fear Hyde ripping up the letter in a fury, assuming the document would only be spared because of Hyde's feverish focus on the moment-at-hand. But there was no doubt time to destroy it before chugging the poison. Hyde could have done both. He didn't. Implying the little imp of impulse felt no desire to.

Think back on Hyde's last moments alive. Right before the door was broken down. Pure despondency. Pure wretchedness. Pure grief.

“Utterson,” said the voice, “for God’s sake, have mercy!”

The far end of a fretting frantic animal of a man, trying desperately to save himself. Well, selves. There is no safety for Hyde without them both. ...But also no freedom. To save the beloved man who is the bandit's cave also means retreating into that cave permanently.

And if Edward Hyde is his own man? If Hyde is a man at all, whose core is impulse itself? Imagine the hell of such a life. A sentient tumor. Forever.

Of course he chose oblivion. But to do that last courtesy--to not spoil or destroy Jekyll's parting words to his friend--I have to wonder what it means.

Did it simply slip his attention as Jekyll assumed?

Did he relish in a last mote of bitter joy at the reputation due to be ruined by its reading?

Or was the impulse in him not all unvarnished evil after all? A callous, a brutal, a vicious character; but even the sinner cannot hold to sin as a constant. No villain genuinely dedicates every second of their life to committing cruelty outside of a comedy. Hyde didn't either. He was only ever impulse in its entirety; blunt and greedy as a brattish child. And the stamp of it was obvious! Enough to inspire hate at a glance. Just as we can sneer at strangers in the news when we know what loathsome acts they've been up to, inflicting pain on others for their own gain.

But they too are human.

In the end, I think Jekyll was happier going to his end without admitting Hyde was as much a human soul as he was.

And he left the letter untouched to make sure Utterson knew it.

some more silly rogues’ headcannons I thought of! Thank you everyone for the validation on the last ones, it made me smile! :D

- they all have a Minecraft server together that's utter madness! Riddler has perfected redstone and he makes puzzle riddle traps in game, it drives Joker INSANE. Ivy goes around planting giant trees and flowers without asking. And Bane has a nice little house and no one dares ruin it, it brings him so much joy.

- Scarecrow always has chapstick on him, it's mango flavored

- Riddler has a tamagotchi, he will cry if it dies. If you're the goon that has to watch it while he's in Arkham, be scared.

- Harvey still posts on his Twitter, Twoface has an invite only after dark account. He just reposts memes everyone else has already seen and overshares random personal information and middle school level poetry. Also Harvey & Twoface are currently in a four year long tweet war about an episode of Law and order

- Out of all the rogues, Joker owns the most shoes. He has a storage unit full of racks of different tailored costumes, shoes, and makeup. He wears an expensive french brand of makeup he has to ship to Gotham, and he doesn't do any crimes without wearing his lucky lipstick brand

- Scarecrow loves animal crossing, his island is decked out and Halloween themed. He hosts parties with the rogues on his island

- Riddler set up a VPN & free cable/wifi for all the rogues to use so they can stream whatever, but you have to answer a riddle to get the password. Joker hates it but he also needs to watch the new criminal minds reboot before Harley spoils it

- one time during a party, the rogues managed to convince a very drunk Harvey & Twoface to sing/reinact songs from phantom of the opera and later jekyll and hyde (Twoface is emotionally a theater kid)

- Harley and Twoface get really into murder podcasts together one time while in Arkham. Even after they all break out, they video call after new episodes drop to talk about it. One time they tried to do a podcast but it turned out Joker did the crime so like it wasn't much of a plot twist

- Harley streams her crimes sometimes & actually makes some sick side cash off it! Half the time her chat is just obsessing over her interactions with Ivy. Also Ivy is one of her top donors

- Catwoman is TikTok famous, she posts story times, how to do simple parkour and pick locks, and hauls from crimes. All of her money from sponsorships and stuff goes to charity (she gets sent a bunch of free cat food for her cats, it's awesome!)

- Joker scrapbooks, he did it for a gag originally but low key got into it and now he may or may not have a scrapbooking room. He tries to go to Michael’s incognito but like, everyone knows.. The employees are like “yo, the Joker is at the help desk asking about if we have batman scrapbooking decals? Do.. Do I ask if he wants to sign up for the rewards program? Is he allowed to sign up?” Yes he signed up for the rewards program

- Joker also often signs up for various rewards programs but when he doesn’t want their emails, he gives them scarecrow’s email. Scarecrow has a bounty for whoever stops the man signing up ALL his emails for the Chilies newsletter

- the rogues throw Harley a roller skating lasertag party, where they also learn Harvey can't skate to save his life. He's the dedicated party mom that's standing at the railing about to fall down while he cheers on the others doing tricks and he's in charge of everyone's coat at the table. Joker uses all of his tickets to buy bouncy balls and sticky hands. Catwoman is a god at laser tag, she nearly gave Scarecrow a heart attack when she dropped form the vents to snip him. At the end of the party, they all steal Harley the go kart that's worth like 10,000 tickets. Batman shows up to Harley doing donuts in the parking lot while all the other villains are fighting with sticky hands and bouncy balls

- Bane likes camping and takes all the rogues in hopes to get camping buddies, they all almost die out in the woods because it's a disaster but also he had a great time! The Joker brings a camera and the whole time is making dated Blair Witch jokes with Scarecrow, which Harvey doesn't find funny and not because he's scared of the Blair witch.. Riddler screams running off into the woods because of a bee "chasing" him, no one sees him until three weeks later when they remember that they forgot him in the woods. Clayface uses a survivalist persona/character the whole time they're out there but he knows nothing about survivalism, eating poisonous berries and telling them poison ivy is a healing herb. Ivy is probably the only one suited for camping and she has to make sure most of them don't die

- Harley collects pins! She has a pin board in her hideout. The other rogues give her pins they find/obtain around Gotham

- The Joker has spent 3 years trying to perfect confetti smoke bombs

I keep thinking about everyone's reactions to Hyde in the book. It's just sheer hatred even if he doesn't do anything. Jekyll notes at one point that Hyde is probably so hated because he's the only person on Earth who is pure evil. People can sense that in him and they, understandably, don't like it. I also like to think they can tell what he reflects within them. He is the evil within Jekyll, but he also represents the evil within humanity. There is some version of Hyde deep within everyone. I think people can sense that too. They see him and they see their own evil. They see the parts of themselves that they have tried to repress. They see the parts of themselves that they wish weren't parts of themselves. I think they hate that more. They're all trying to be respectable then they're confronted by the darkness that hides within them. I think they must hate that even more than they hate Hyde as a person. The descriptions used for him show them trying to separate him from themselves. Hyde is described like an animal. He is 'troglodytic'. He hisses and snarls when talking to Utterson. He isn't a man. They describe him like another species because they don't want him to be human. They don't want to accept that evil like that can be human. Hyde's very existence forces people to confront their own evil and they try so hard to push him aside. Their extreme reactions are attempts to defend the idealised views they have of themselves.

First of all, their ship name is Creationshipping <3 @lonely-space-egg came up with it and I'm obsessed with it thank you Peri

They're in an open/polyamorous relationship and Hyde is also dating Utterson, hi Utterson \O. Adam and Utterson are very good friends <3

Hyde loves when Adam holds him but usually he won't ask to be and will instead just start trying to climb up Adam until he picks him up.

Adam is incredibly encouraging of all Hyde's indulgences, they both encourage each other to act without worrying what others think and to Adam? Hyde can commit a few felonies, as a treat. It's cute

Hyde initially avoided telling Adam that he was a scientist since he was afraid Adam would take it badly due to his relationship with Victor

Adam loves animals but animals HATE Hyde so he makes sure to keep them away from him for both their safety. He tried to keep a pet rabbit once and Hyde had to get 30 stitches

Adam is one of the only people Hyde has spilled his entire life story to, along with all the trauma of his childhood has Jekyll and nuances of his relationships with his family and friends, and all the pressure and stress and guilt that lead up to him creating Hyde in the first place. He actually surprised himself with how quickly he opened up to Adam but he just seemed like he could understand on a level no one else could, and he did <3

Hyde has a constant fear of abandonment and sneaks some of Adam's clothing out with him whenever he leaves so he can sniff it if he's feeling lonely. Adam noticed and started leaving out gym clothes for him.

Adam sometimes bends down to Hyde's level in public and whispers something that makes Hyde burst out laughing, falling on the ground and everything, making a scene.

Hyde has trouble sleeping because his form causes him to have a ton of increased adrenaline at all times, but Adam's tired he lets him hold him while he sleeps and Hyde spends pretty much the entire time awake and wide-eyed staring at the wall.

When Hyde does sleep he is a BED HOG, he somehow takes up more space than an 8 foot tall man and sleeps with all of his limbs out. He also takes all the blankets only to then ball them up underneath his feet.

Sometimes Hyde just wordlessly plops his entire body weight onto Adam and they lay like that for hours not saying a word

Hyde was a bit uneasy at first finding out about Adam's interest in religion but he actually ended up being an incredibly good source of comfort whenever Hyde would spiral due to his religious trauma

Adam likes to sing little songs to Hyde when they're alone <3

Usually when they fight it's a result of Hyde getting too riled up or overwhelmed and he storms off somewhere, only to come back later once he's calmed down and plonk down like this so they can actually talk about it (doodle by @internetwerewolf )

More specific to CC but Hyde buys all of Adam's clothes for him and pays for pretty much anything he needs, partly just to treat him right and partly just because he doesn't want him leaving to go work all the time

One thing that is easy to notice but also easy to overlook in Strange Case is how Hyde moves in this very nebulous space. Depending on what it is narratively needed of him, he can be a man, an inhuman monster (even an animal!), or a background force bringing disorder and horror wherever it goes.

Hyde doesn't "interact" with the reader firsthand until Utterson talks to him. Before that, he was a character in a flashback, an anonymous entity. Utterson envisions him as a faceless creature in his dreams, a liminal place where Hyde feels right at home. Even once the reader gets to see him "in person" through Utterson, he remains a mystery, and the lawyer himself says there's very little of human in him. The murder is also told as a flashback (a witness' narration, in fact), and that's where once again he's made to be this shadowy figure, a monster. After the murder, Hyde lingers and hovers over Jekyll like a phantom, then disappears, only to become physical once again right before he dies, almost before the eyes of the protagonist and thus the reader themselves. And in this physicality, Poole describes him as a "something", an "it", compares him to an animal, and can only think of him as that fiend that has killed and replaced his master, playing a quiet farce that neither party is brave enough to break.

In later chapters, as Hyde interacts with more characters and gets a narrative voice of his own, he is at the same time more physical and more conceptual. He gets to be a man, albeit a distorted one, under the watch of Lanyon. And when Jekyll reveals this Mr. Edward Hyde never really existed to begin with, he plunges again into the realm of the conceptual and intangible, walking the thin line between a flesh and bone human and a noxious influence. Inner demons aside, the true nature of Hyde is more akin to an addiction than anything else. Not a someone, but a thing, a phenomenon, that can destroy lives and breaks everything it touches.

But at the end of the day, Edward Hyde is a person.

You see, it's very, very easy to forget he is a person. Hyde as-is might be conceptual but he impacts the story through his personhood either way, because if Jekyll is a human being with flaws and emotions, Hyde also has to be one. The fact that Hyde isn't our definition of human, that he resembles us but isn't like us, that there's something to his monstrousness other than just typical human cruelty but a sort of more primal evil that can't be understood... hell, his very existence not as a run on the mill man but as a modified, twisted Jekyll still doesn't blot that humanity out. No matter how much he tries to remove himself from the equation or how much he is presented by original text and adaptation alike as a demonic entity, we are always hit in the face by the fact that the worst monsters are still human.

And isn't that the moral of the story? That evil isn't a stranger, that evil lurks inside all of us, and it's up to us to not let it destroy us? That anyone, ANYONE, could be Edward Hyde?

It doesn't matter what separates Hyde from us, because he's still part of us, and that's the whole point. He could have never existed as anything else but a living breathing person, because living breathing people have evil in them. And despite his nature, or maybe because of it, this monster, this force, is still a man. Edward Hyde has thoughts, opinions, dreams, emotions; he gets angry, he fears, he cries, he laughs, maybe he even repents or cares about those he's left behind (who knows? he's not telling us, either way), and he's completely ordinary beyond all the little things that remove him from a "normal" human being. It could not be any other way, because, no matter how much he wants to tear himself apart, he is Henry Jekyll, a fundamentally human, complex, flawed person, someone who is here, who is like us.

Maybe he alone in the ranks of humanity is pure evil, but he's in those ranks still. That's what makes him scary and at the same time somewhat tragic. You look at this demon, and your own eyes stare back.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem amplifies the fun of the franchise - REVIEW

*Slight Spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem*

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been a franchise that has consistently been rebooted and I have never minded.

While the 2003 series was my initial Turtles introduction, the 2012 series really made me a fan. It had the right balance for me of brotherly affection, drama, stakes, and weird obscure villains.

While Rise of the TMNT wasn't exactly my taste, I can appreciate the animation, comedy, and going for a different new take. Plus my god is the Rise of TMNT movie good. I'm all for making really cool characters into animes now.

Going into this movie I had extremely high hopes. Not only has this franchise rarely disappointed, but it was produced by Seth Rogen, who has worked on shows like The Boys and Invincible, and directed by Jeff Rowe, who is not getting NEARLY enough credit for this movie. He was a writer on Gravity Falls and the co-director of one of my favorite animated movies: The Mitchells vs The Machines.

And I got to say, this movie does not disappoint.

The animation style is both impressive and at times disgusting in the best possible way. This is the first time I've felt New York feel grubby and grimy. Every shot looks wonderful, and that cannot be understated.

The hardest part of the Turtles is usually the brother dynamics. I feel like if not written or performed correctly, the Turtles can come off as buddies or even acquaintances. But this was not a problem here. The idea of having all four actors in the same room clearly paid off, as the four of them riffing and mocking each other were some of the highlights of the movie.

I do think coming out of this, some of these turtles will be the definitive versions of the characters. While Mikey and Raph have their charms, Micah Abbey as Donnie and Nicolas Cantu as Leo were stands out for me.

The idea of taking Donnie from the tech guy to more of a calculating nerdy weeb was genius. Donnie often is the guy who is most made fun of because he is nerd, and I think pivoting to him being a smart-ass and respected for his brain was a nice touch.

Leonardo as the goody two shoes dork who wants to lead so bad also worked for me. Leonardo can sometimes come off a sorta bully or arrogant for even trying to be the leader. Making him unsure but wanting to be a good leader makes him charming and more likeable.

Also among our heroes are Ayo Edebiri as April O'Neil and Jackie Chan as Master Splinter.

While April does not have as much to do as I would've liked, I think Edebiri is a nice addition and I'd be happy to see more of her. She has good chemistry with the brothers, although it did take me out of the movie to think of the age gap between Edebiri and Cantu.

Jackie Chan's Splinter may be my biggest problem with the film. While he is a passable Splinter and has plenty of laughs, he does not seem as fierce of a warrior as he has seemed in the past, nor as wise. I do not mind a flawed, anxiety ridden Splinter, but he should feel like he can take on the Turtles easily, and I don't think he can.

(Also, Jackie Chan is a bad father in real life and shouldn't disown his estranged daughter for being gay. Read all about it here!)

I'm not going to go to into the details of all the villains in the movie, as there are quite a few, but I really loved the inclusion of the vast TMNT universe, and their own fun takes on them. One of the benefits of having Seth Rogen as a creative is access to all his very talented friends. A highlight for me was Mondo Gecko, voiced by the great Paul Rudd.

The main antagonist of the film being Superfly was a rather interesting choice. While I was sure we were going to have a Jekyll and Hyde situation with Superfly and Stockman going in, the idea that it was his mutant son was a weird but fun choice. Clearly Ice Cube was having a lot of fun playing a villain. He gave me quite a few laughs and felt like a proper first villain for these turtles. I'm glad they didn't just jump into Shredder or Kraang.

While all the characters are fun and interesting, what I really love about this story is the central theme of acceptance. Having them all have the goal of being accepted by society felt natural, important, and very teen drama, which is fresh to the TMNT. They are often outsiders who don't really care about that, just protecting the city. Making that at the heart of the movie made me feel for them in a way I haven't before.

Leaving the movie where it does excites me for more movies and the upcoming show they have planned. I think this version of the turtles can last us a good 5-7 years, and will end up being as iconic as the ones that came before.

Not that there is a super high bar for TMNT films, but this is definitely my favorite. I think kids are going to love, TMNT fans are going to love it, and non TMNT fans are going to be pleasantly surprised.

I highly recommend you go see this movie, I know I am definitely going again soon.

I want to put down all the references in the Worst Generation (excluding the Straw Hats and Blackbeard) and the named members of their crews. I'm getting my information from the wiki and adding my own theories/comments where necessary. Ever since I read JoJo, I love finding references in manga.

Fire Tank Pirates

Capone Bege: His surname is obviously taken from Al Capone (whom he also shares his birthday with) and his given name is based on the English privateer William le Sauvage. Him being stated to cut animals' heads off is a nod to the horse head scene from The Godfather.

Vito: His name seems to be taken from Vito "Don Vito" Genovese, a mobster/crime boss from Al Capone's era, and the first name of Don Corleone from The Godfather.

Gotti: He seems to be named after John Gotti, a mobster who ran the Gambino crime family in the 80s (He was nicknamed 'the Telfon Don' due to him facing three trials and being acquitted every time -- the results were caused by jury tampering and witness intimidation-- before being finally sent to prison in 1992).

Chiffon: She's named after chiffon cake, which she also specializes in making.

Pez: His name is the Spanish word for fish, as well as a nod to the candy brand, keeping with the Charlotte Family naming theme.

Bonney Pirates

Jewelry Bonney: Her name is taken from the 18th-century Anne Bonney, who, like Bonney herself, was a noble turned pirate.

Hawkins Pirates

Basil Hawkins: His surname is taken from 17th-century English pirate Basil Ringosel and his given name from 16th-century pirate/privateer John Hawkins. Hawkins is also the name of the protagonist of the 1883 adventure novel Treasure Island (which had a massive impact on the depiction of pirates in popular culture) by Robert Louis Stevenson, who also wrote The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Visually, his design is based off of Joey Jordison of Slipknot.

Faust: He's named after the legendary character Faust, who sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for knowledge and worldly pleasures. The story was most famously told by 15th-century playwright Christopher Marlowe in The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus and by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Faust.

On Air Pirates

Scratchman Apoo: His surname seems to be based on the practice of "scratching" records when DJing, tying into his association with music. His first name is taken from the Qing dynasty pirate Chui A-poo.

Kid Pirates

Eustass Kid: He's named after the 13th-century pirate and mercenary Eustace the Monk and the 17th-century Scottish (which Kid would be if he existed in the real world) pirate William Kidd, who was also called "Captain."

Kid's Attacks: I decided this needed its own entry. Punk Gibson (Kid's giant arm) -- Named after the US guitar manufacturer Gibson. Punk Rotten (the giant scrap metal head and arms) -- Named after Johnny Rotten, the name John Lyndon used when he was the frontman of the influential punk band Sex Pistols. Punk Vise (Crushing a target with Punk Rotten's hands) -- As "vice" and "vise" are spelled the same way in katakana, this attack might be named after the British punk rock band Vice Squad. Punk Pistols (a harpoon gun made out of metal pieces that acts like a Gatling gun) -- Named after Sex Pistols. Punk Corna Dio (the giant bull he used to attack Big Mom) -- Corna is Italian for horns, alluding to the sign of the horns in heavy metal, while Dio references Ronnie James Dio, who was very big in that genre; no, I'm not making the obvious joke. Damned Punk (the giant railgun he used to blast Big Mom off Onigashima) -- Probably named after the British punk rock band The Damned. Punk Clash (after magnetizing someone with his Awakened Devil Fruit, they attract very large and pointy metal pieces) -- Named after the British punk band The Clash.

Killer: His laugh alludes to the song 'Psycho Killer' by the New Wave band the Talking Heads, as the chorus is the same ("fa fa fa fa fa"). The song might be the source of his name. His helmet strongly resembles that of Daft Punk member Guy-Manual de Homem-Christo.

Heat: He's likely named after the experimental rock band This Heat.

Wire: He might be named after the English rock band Wire.

Gig: In keeping with the Kid Pirates' music-related theme naming, a gig is slang for a live show.

Dive: She's likely named after stage-diving, a common practice among musicians and their fans.

UK: His name may come from the UK, where many classic punk bands originated from (ie, the Clash, Sex Pistols). Alternately, he might be named after the Sex Pistols' song 'Anarchy in the UK.'

Pomp: He's likely named after pomp rock, more commonly known as arena rock (examples of bands known for arena rock: Styx, Toto, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Boston).

Bubblegum: His name seems to be a reference to bubblegum music (rock and pop in a catchy and upbeat style marketed toward children), which influenced punk rock, new wave, and melodic metal.

Reck: He's named after the bassist of the Japanese punk rock band Friction.

House: She's named after the electronic music subgenre house music.

Boogie: He's probably named after the electronic club music subgenre called boogie.

Mosh: He's likely named after moshing, a rather violent form of dancing. Appropriate for a member of a crew known for their violence.

Hip: She's named after hip-hop.

Papas: He's named after the folk rock group The Mamas & the Papas, the indie rock band Papas Fritas, or both.

Jaguar: He's likely named after the Fender Jaguar electric guitar. Alternately, his name could come from Mick Jagger's last name, as "Jagger" and "Jaguar" are spelled the same way in katakana.

Quincy: Her name likely comes from the producer and musician Quincy Jones, who produced Michael Jackson's albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad, and has 80 Grammy Award nominations and 28 Grammys.

Hop: She's named after hip-hop.

Compo: He might be named after an abbreviation of 'musical composition.'

Disc J: His name pretty clearly comes from disc jockey, more commonly known as DJ.

Fallen Monk Pirates

Urouge: He's named after the 16th-century Ottoman Pirate Oruc Reis. He seems to be based off of Grigori Rasputin, who needs no introduction, and/or Ji Gong, a Chinese monk known for having supernatural abilities, behaving bizarrely, and not following Buddhist monastic rules. Interestingly, both these figures have movies (Rasputin the Mad Monk, a 1966 Hammer horror film starring Christopher Lee as the titular character, and the 1993 Hong Kong film The Mad Monk) that might have inspired his epithet.

Drake Pirates

X Drake: Drake is sometimes synonymous with dragon, especially in Middle English; appropriate, given that dinosaur bones likely inspired legends of dragons. His name is also taken from 16th-century pirate and adventurer Francis Drake. Random (but likely not a deliberate reference) fact: He shares his birthday with the singer/rapper Drake.

Heart Pirates

Trafalgar D. Water Law: His surname is taken from Cape Trafalgar in the south of Spain, which was the site of a battle between the British and French/Spanish fleets which famously killed Lord Nelson. His name is taken from 18th-century pirate Edward Low, who was notorious for violently torturing his victims before killing them, which may have inspired Law's own reputation for cruelty.

Bepo: He might be named after Lord Byron's poem 'Beppo.' He's also likely named after bear, polar.

Shachi: His name is the Japanese word for killer whale, which makes his friendship with Penguin (who's named after killer whales' preferred food) kind of funny.

Jean Bart: His name comes from the 16th-century French privateer Jean Bart.

Ikkaku: Her name means 'narwhal' in Japanese.

Uni: His name comes from the Japanese word for sea urchin.

Clione: 'Clione' is the Latin name for sea angels.

Hakugan: His name means 'snow goose' in Japanese.

I will put a warning for Tokyo Ghoul though, because this does have :re spoilers

Hyde is deliberately named after Edward Hyde from the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, but the relationship between him and Ivan is actually more heavily inspired by Haise and Kaneki from the beginning of Tokyo Ghoul :re

Ivan names Hyde after the book character because he is the darker part of Ivan, but isn’t a different person. Hyde is quite literally the part of Ivan that he doesn’t want to acknowledge is actually him, similar to how Edward Hyde is really just Henry Jekyll putting on a persona to enact the dark urges he doesn’t want to take responsibility for.

However, the way Hyde addresses Ivan is almost directly based on how Kaneki approaches Haise in his mind, because Kaneki is the former and true self of Haise. He tries to convince Haise to accept that they’re the same person so Kaneki can regain his body back. With Ivan, Hyde tries to get Ivan to do something similar. Though, instead of trying to get Ivan to give Hyde his body, he wants Ivan to accept that Hyde is the part of Ivan that Ivan refuses to believe is truly him. Ivan thinks he’d be putting everyone in danger if he took on Hyde’s persona, when in reality he would just stop denying the fact that he truly was Hyde the whole time, or rather, Hyde was really Ivan. Does that make sense?

If anything, it’s inspired not only by Haise and Kaneki, but also Kaneki and Rize, since the figment of Kaneki’s imagination representing his loss of humanity took on a physical form that only he could see, trying to get him to accept that he was no longer human no matter what he did.

guys. i have. another tgs au 4 you guys <3

this time, inspired by all those wing au’s, and demons. angel and demon symbolism.

here’s the overview;

Each person is born with an animal attribute that speaks to their future; their personality, omens, etc

To the horror of his protestant parents, Jekyll’s traits were demonic; long horns, wings, and clawed nails. Bright red eyes.

(Wings that were half demonic, but also angelic. Jet black, with a clawed frame. But also with fluffy, soft layered feathers.)

From a young age, these things were suppressed. (Nails and horns filed off. Wings bound. The eyes, unable to be hidden, had to remain, which they did not like.)

Jekyll doesn’t mind the traits at first, but he doesn’t have a choice about whether to keep them or not. He grows to despise them. (Who wouldn’t? When they were always called bad, evil, sinful, something to be hidden away…)

High society expects repression of these traits and the behaviors centered around them (When the standard of high society is someone polite, as human as possible, and restrained, it is not very gentlemanly to be growling at others hmm?) which Jekyll took to well, seeing as he already had to do that.

-Brings new light to Jekyll’s statement of ‘even I have monstrous thing about me!’

-Hyde lets themself show those traits. Cuts holes in their shirts to let their wings out and stretches them out, lets his nails grow out and even paints them, and lets their horns show.

From first sight, everyone knows he’s trouble, and he loves that.

(Hyde is about showing the things they were forced to hide. Those things he repressed, but always wanted to show. So he laughs at that fear! Laughs joyfully! They don’t have to hide anymore! Their wings don’t have to cry out to open at the end of the day! They don’t have to get an annoying crook in them! and no more fighting against a file to get their horns as flat and unnoticeable as possible! he’s having a great time!)

But this also causes Hyde to desperately avoids Lanyon; traits are far to similar to Jekyll’s, who both Hastie and Henry believe is unique. (It’s not, but certainly rarer than others.)

About Discord Servers

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but, I don't join Discord servers. Why? Simply put, I block people for the sake of my own mental health. Some of these people are within the communities I reside most often in. However, Discord servers often mean I have to bend my block list to get along in and have a comfortable time in said server. 9 times out of 10 the instincts that made me block someone were correct. Therefore I prefer my blog because I can have an easier time curating my interactions with the community.

That being said I am totally down to chat with you on discord if you want to add me! Chatting one on one gives me more power to block people that make me uncomfortable and avoid people on my blocklist.
