okay whoops so below the cut will be the full version, which, like. just gets into some of my experiences with sexuality. there's nothing bad/that needs a warning, but (a) it's getting long and (b) ehhhhh i don't really feel comfortable being the adult talking about discovering one's sexuality to youngsters, so. that's a 16+ below the cut.

the tldr is: me and my friends did something very similar and it is WILD to me that i am the person WRITING that now. absolutely wild. cannot believe it (and yet it's true).

again everyone i'm looking for 16+ only down here. now. where i left of:

all sorts of nonsense happens as things do when ur teens. i would LOVE to make jokes but they'd require explaining fandom context so the tl/dr is if you think i'm problematic NOW, you should've seen me back then. so okay so we're trading fics, y'know the usual "i can't believe i read this trust me you have to read this." nyway.

the fic of the hour, the one that i am telling you this story to get to, is by the one and only 2x2verse (agent_florida). now, what you have to know about them is that they've written 138 fics over about ten years, and 87 of them are explicit. i will not be linking what i am about to talk about because, well, i have a thing about not directly linking to certain things, and y'all just have to deal with that. i am giving you all the information you need.

now, 2x2verse is not the only foundational author from this period. thermodynamicActivity was and remains my poison of choice (and poison is the wrong word to use, as "i will read all their dreams to the stars" may have saved my life), NoBrandHero is another favourite, but come now, we all know where i am going with this story.

back to the point.

2x2verse has a good deal of content, a lot of it set in college aus. my mind is telling me it is because they were in college at the time, but that isn't necessarily true. i was a young teen. young teens are incredibly unaware. so.

baby kk, the one and only, sends me "> command line", which is, well...i do always struggle with how to explain things for people, but all you need to know is it's about a crack ship that would make you go, "i'm sorry, who and how?"

and it's a daddy kink fic.

well, it's a lot of things.

now, this is NOT the story of how matthew discovered he had a daddy kink. as established, i do not. matthew knew what he was into from a young age because he was born a kinky fucker and will die a kinky fucker. [note: by this i mean, much in the same way many a young gay know this long before they experience sexual/romantic attraction, so it was with me.]

however.

i cannot QUITE explain the experience of one's friend sending something to you with the tone of, "oh, i liked this. i liked this please read it." and you look at it and go, "god i can't believe i'm about to read this." (of note: i did not even have the grace of command line being a serious fic about trauma.)

this is a core memory.

while i don't know if this is a core memory for the two of you, i cannot properly express the oddity of this. here i am, the struggling college student of my dreams. i am up too late, experiencing Life, etc., wondering if i need to add a scene or two to the...ehh it's too hard to explain you'll see wednesday fic, and i get this ask, and i just.

fucking hell, man.

you ever realize like. my life aspirations as a child were fucking SHIT. not that this isn't good but like my life aspirations as a child knew i was going to b fucking. sdflaj;. anyway.

this means a lot to me to hear, i am going to bed bc it is v late n i JUST told my therapist very proudly that i fixed my sleep schedule, so i have to make that be true.

hey i read ur addition to my post and i just have to say like -- MASSIVE agree with absolutely everything. u totally summed up every thought i had that led up to me making that post LMFAO including the frustration with streamers over them just.... dropping off the earth and not wanting to seem entitled but also kind of wondering "hey what the fuck" ???? and while i love the drive wilbur and quackity have, i know theres not much they can do if all these other CCs have just decided to be MIA without warning. idk its so sad because it really feels like the smp is dying for sure and the lore is one of my favorite parts of being an mcyt fan <///3 SIGHHH -isaiah (aetherknit)

YES!!!! exactly dude!!! like i agree like while i love this drive some of the other very clearly dedicated and creative creators have, it worries me that some of the other creators who are necessary to drive this plot along just don't have that.

and i agree! like lore has been one of my favorite things, and i hope like this doesn't make them feel like... boxed in to one form of content, because theyre absolutely not! like i think many people do enjoy their content that's not focused on lore

however? a large portion of us DID come from watching the dream smp so it feels like such a massive let down and disappointment and like i said disparaging to see these creators just like put it on what feels like an indefinite hold? like, again, maybe im catastrophizing and being pessimistic, but like... i don't know how to remain hopeful when all we have is radio silence like...

we don't really get any updates or even like... a time when we will for sure have lore. again, like i had said before, like... the only thing reassuring is what wilbur said about what he has planned, because it has like a definitive number, and we know that quackity likes to do big cinematic lore streams and has always pulled through.

everyone else surrounding big storylines just feels... like... empty? i guess. there have been a LOT of empty promises from others and it's just kind of demoralizing.

and i mean? i know that there are definitely other people doing lore but it feels very... like... just not cohesive because it's very clear there are a group of people whose stories are intricately tied to one another while like people like ponk and puffy only have like a few threads into this story?

and it honestly feels like an injustice. like... that's not to disparage or degrade their lore, i've seen both of their lore before and it's genuinely outstanding, it's just like... kind of a shame because i'm not compelled to watch it when it's not really pushing along a big plot that the story clearly has now.

and like, yeah that's my own problem i guess but to argue like lore is still going on it's like yeah but this clearly very big plot with a LOT of loose ends and like was promised that it was leading somewhere big has felt like it's fizzled out!

and like!!! i don't think it has especially if they would just communicate what's going on so we don't all lose interest because we don't know if we're going to get the emotional payoff we signed up for.

like, i would just really like some communication because right now it's very frustrating and it feels unfair because like there's not even a real way to get this across to them that if they would just give a date or better explanation than something vague like "scheduling isn't working out" then i think interest would hold pretty strong and i definitely think morale wouldn't drop so low?

not to be a homestuck, but i know when the comic would take breaks or pauses there would be like this MASSIVE influx of fanart and fan-content because we knew we would have to make stuff to keep each other occupied until it came back! and like... it was good and it held many people's attention to wait so long and like continue to indulge in this piece of media.

like if the dream smp over arching plotline and lore was going on hiatus (understandably so) until they can collectively get their shit together, then i just wish they would give us a date until they think everyone will be able to participate? because like. it gives everyone a time frame and also something to look forward to.

no one wants to be left hanging and its much easier to cut shit clean off and like let it go when they are left hanging, so in these periods of down time with little to no communication, the fandom regarding this piece of media wanes.

TLDR;

i wish dream smp creators other than wilbur and quackity would communicate more clearly with their fanbase in regards to lore because waiting with radio silence will only lead to disinterest.

waiting with a date can build excitement and the fandom can definitely hold each other over with aus and fan content amongst ourselves.

i just wish someone would be more clear about what was going on.

AH and the hell train as a whole is so damn good (the dallar show???? my whole soul rests in there, Khun’s trust in Bam!! the coin flip with rachel!! Bam’s whole everything!!!!!!!! GAH) but my fav part of it has to be the hidden floor?? because!!!!!! it’s perfect from start to end, everyone in it is wonderful, Bam’s growth in it!!! GODS! My favorite scene in the whole webtoon is in the hidden floor arc, it’s how much I love it - THEN THERE’S YAMA and the whole arc there is so so SO good too, and the latest arc!! how good is the latest arc!!!!!

so yeah I can’t pick - art wise I think it goes without saying that SIU’s art has only gotten better, so the closest to the newest update you go the more I like the art.... though, my favorite Bam is still the short haired one from the Hell Train arc haha

ok. y'know what. i'm just gonna make this kinda post 'cause i've been wanting to for a bit.

i am currently pretty mutual-less on here and basically none of my other kinds of friends have tumblr-

minecraft (i still play it)

and roblox which i play pretty often nowadays

my main "hobby" is drawing (digital art mostly) plus animating a bit! i also enjoy writing (wether it be stories or poetry). sometimes, i'm interested in learning about all sorts of queer things, and i even coined like 3 terms though i haven't shared them really.

some importantish things abt me:

i have memory issues so i might not always remember important or less important things, or i might mix up details of memories

i am a minor

i'm not from/living in an english speaking country. sometimes i mess up grammar or spelling

i don't always understand tone. even if it may seem obvious to you it might not to me if something is a joke, serious or if its platonic, or romantic. tone tags/tone indicators are great especially when we havent interacted a bunch before!

Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

Well...I don’t know if it’s unpopular coz honestly...I have no idea of what’s popular or not popular in our fandom, but here I go.

The Rayman fandom is weird.

Like, really weird ? And I’m not talking about it’s content.

See, most fandoms I have been, the same troubles coming back and forth : shipping war, theory wars, hate talks about this or that character...You name it. I’ve seen to what extreme it can go and it can be not pretty. And it gets old REAL fast.

Our fandom ? It doesn’t have that...From what I’ve observed. I can only speak from my pov, so if I’m wrong about something, I hope you’ll forgive my uninformed ass.

I haven’t seen any shipping war in Rayman.

You have people who simply disagree but I haven’t heard of case of anon hate because of a ship. Maybe there are cases, but I haven’t seen anyone complain about these kind of attacks.

Like I know some people don’t like Rayly, which is the basic bitch hetero pairing whom I still ship dearly after all these years, but nobody sent me hate.

I made some Bartina, nobody complained.

You made the adorable Betily rarepair and I haven’t seen you talk about receiving hate about it.

People like some asshole characters and don’t get yelled at for it.

Liking an asshole character who isn’t popular in a fandom like, say, Homestuck ? Or worse, roleplaying them ? Man, you’d be out of luck because people would vent their hate on the character on you.

(And the first fucker who dares to tell me it was just a Homestuck thing, I’d like to direct you to the Undertale and SU fandom.)

But here ?

Beside some people ranting on their own blog about those, which is only fair it’s their blogs, I haven’t seen people receiving hate about loving a character.

Same with theories. People are not comparing if their theories are valid in the Rayman fandom. Nonono... They try to contribute to one another. Everyone is free to have their own development of the lore on their side. I haven’t seen anyone say to someone else “ Your headcanon is shit, mine is better because of x and y ” or even say “ My headcanon is da best because of x and y” Mind you, it is certainly because oft he lack of lore/continuity the the franchise suffers from...But in a way, that is part of our strength.

Now.

Yes, we do have assholes and bullies. But those people, who are always the same problematic bunch which is already weird in itself, aren’t attacking you because of what they think of the fandom.

It’s not a “ OMG how DARE u thinking that way of the character, I’M RIGHT and ur WRONG about it and imma bully you into thinking my way”. No. They’re just being huge assholes to people for the sake of it.

I’m not even sure those guys are actually fans and just trolls who decided to make their nest here because we’re like a tiny bunch of carebears in their eyes.

The other weird thing is... We’re a tiny fandom, desperately trying to keep the head high above water as our dear hero is becoming more and more of an after though for Ubisoft.

That’s our reality.

Other fandoms like the Crash Bandicoot fandom, or even the Spyro fandom who have been laying dormant for years are now thriving more than we do.

And yet here we are. Still thriving on our own, making our own content because, fuck you Ubisoft, if you’re not making Rayman games we’re fucking going to do it ourselves.

And comics, lots of fancomics because if you don’t want to make stuff seriously, might as well take the fucking wheel. And you know what ? That old show you never finished ? We’re going to reanimate it, just because we can.

In case this isn’t clear, this is a shout out to you, the whole Rayman Reanimate team, Ryemanni, Sir Rayland, Clairiphi ... And the many other people who either try to keep the fandom alive or/and have their projects on their side and just go and do it.

So yeah. I think we are an extremely weird fandom, and damn, we’re also the most tenacious motherfuckers. Rock on my weird fellow fans.

like, i read fanfics a lot, and i think i started when i was in middle school and back then mpreg or pregnancy in general was a big yikes for me and i would just skip anything any mention of it. then i think i gave it a go when i was a homestuck with a v high kudos fic but didn’t like it that much so i never really read any?

with bnha, todobaku is my otp and it’s been so from the very start and even though i’m okay with both tddk and krbk i really just prefer them as friends, and when i came across ur blog and read your info i was like !! this person feels the same way about this thing??? and i then i read a lot of ur posts and i love shinbaku and dabibaku and all ur headcanons rly spoke to me so i decided maybe i am into abo and i started to read scent of the broken and??? i loved it?? i love everything from how u describe the scents and emotions and i really like seeing bakugou suffer and ppl being protective of him bc honestly he deserves so much and yea now i find myself daydreaming about how precious of a pup he is fkfkkdsknds

i was initially going to write this as a comment , seeing ur post about the last update not getting so much attention made me really sad bc i really look forward to every chapter but this is really irrelevant so i decided to send an ask instead :>

bakugou reuniting with deku and inko was great, him scenting and hugging deku before they left really was so soft and it was everything i wanted, the platonic shinbaku and erasermic family interactions are also chef’s kiss and i really hope you get all the love and praise for it it deserves!! up next being deku getting his quirk is kinda worrying me bc surely u wont make katsuki go through sludge villain incident again, right ;w; bc he’s already been through so much and he’s just started to let ppl in and he’s going to get only love and support and everything nice from now on ;;;;;w; but honestly i love seeing him suffer and whatever you’ve decided i’m really looking forward to it.

I definitely get you when it comes to A/B/O - I mean, I love the trope but even I struggle to find fics that I enjoy because of my annoyingly specific taste when it comes to characterization/plot and things like that, it definitely is even harder since one of the biggest ships in the fandom is my NOTP lmao

Also, I need you to know that every time someone tells me they like Dabibaku my heart grows a few sizes - such a good ship, I adore them so damn much, I love writing for them. Hopefully you also like my next A/B/O fic with those two hah

But I’m really happy you enjoy my hc’s and gave the fic a chance even though you normally don’t like the trope! And I’m even happier that you actually enjoy it! That fic definitely means a lot to me, I really love writing it so I’m glad people are actually liking it.

(Oh, and sidenote, about the comments thing, I was only a bit... confused because my stats differed so much - the engagement was just so drastically lower than it normally is that I was left in a bit of a state where I was like ‘what did I do wrong?’ but it’s all good! :D)

Anyways! I’m glad you liked it! I definitely get a bit nervous when it comes to the more emotionally charged scenes and things like that so I’m glad I did alright on that part. And uhhhhhhhhh I guess we shall see what happens with Deku’s quirk :) won’t we :) hehe :) I feel like at this point we’ve established that Kacchan suffering is my favourite hah

1.) We All Know What It’s Gonna Be. Karezi. Literally In Every Quadrant.

SO. OKAY. I’ve shipped Karezi since like. The damn beginning. I honestly can’t even tell when I started shipping them, but it happened quick and hard and I OBSESSED. HARD. This ship was my BIG SPECIAL INTEREST. I had multiple custom phone cases that were Karezi art. They were the first pairing I actually looked up fanfic for. I drew nothing but Karezi art all of freshman year-sophmore year.

I ended up falling off the ship a couple years ago because I wasn’t tooooo into Homestuck anymore and also like. Fandom be like if u ship karezi ur a freak and just :/ bullshit.

BUT. Look.

I love them. Karkat cares SO MUCH for Terezi? He invited her to move next door to him so he can look after he because he’s like: you’re blind living alone in the forest please for the love of God.

He wanted her in every fucking quadrant dude!! He wanted ONLY Terezi!!! And Terezi cares SO MUCH about Karkat like. Hello? She’s a teal blood and he’s a mutant. She knew his blood color since probably day one. And I rb’d a post about it BUT rewatching HS Terezi makes a comment to Dave that said, “And you type in delicious candy red and don’t hide your blood color like a wriggler” and iirc I think this was BEFORE she told Karkat she knew his blood color? But I thought that tidbit was interesting.

She reassured him everyone still respects and cares about him. She uplifts him a lot even though they bicker like a cute old married couple all the time. I know this girl would protect Karkat with her own life. (Like. Looks over at Redglare and Signless. Coughs.)

And KARKAT does the same for Terezi!! Now, I do ship daverezi BUT. I also kinda think that Terezi mostly started dating Dave and flirted with him because Dave like. Wasn’t difficult and was like “wow you’re like Karkat but better because you don’t play games”

they both have like a respect for the other but they still just. piss each other off. rose is so like. ‘pretentious’ and ‘more mature’ while terezi is like. a feral lil goblin. both can easily do shit on purpose to piss each other off and it’s just so funny

It was late at night, when he started to cry.

He didn't want to cry, but he did.

It's been years since he's last let himself feel, or was it since he was last allowed to feel?

He choked on his sobs, uncomfortable with his tears. He's forgotten how to properly cry. His entire body is shaking, and the connections between flesh and wire hurts.

He stops crying. He starts crying again.

This continues for another few minutes, until he feels as if he can't possibly have any more tears.

He wipes his face, pulls the covers up to his chin, and falls asleep.

I DON’T KNOW. I’LL TRY.

“I’m sure you’ll do just fine,” Del Rio assures, and he can feel the air around him smile. The...world, he thinks, around him shifts just slightly, and there seems to be a chink in the armor for a moment before it goes away, as if someone had wiped the glass clear. He realizes that this is her, trying to show up in a physical form, step out of the phone.

He doesn’t know where to look, but then his confusion wanes when a butterfly shows up, fluttering towards him. It lands near his phone, skitters a bit, flaps its wings.

“Lucy?” he asks, transfixed on the butterfly. Its orange wings are bright under the sunlight.

I THOUGHT I’D TRY SMALL, FOR MY FIRST TRIAL.

“Well, you certainly nailed it.” He smiled warmly at the butterfly, and he had the crazy notion that it smiled back at him.

Yeah, probably The Policeman lmao, I remember it today n I cringe a little at the very obvious refs to other fandoms I made. Despite that, it continues being one of my best hits!

Chancy_Lurking ( @lurkerviolin ) is one of my faves, n we’ve become friends, n their Felix+ Sense8 series is the reason for it all, and u know it’s good if it managed to make a friendship that’s last its good while, and also they’re so nice, and we vibe so well!!! thegoatz ( @daniel-bryan ) is also now one of my bestest friends ever, and I wuv him so much, he is such a good kid, n he’s so enthusiastic about writing, and I hope that spark never goes out!!! Gonna be real w u, the best comments I’ve gotten have mainly been from my friends, who either write a paragraph or two going into detail of the fic, or just send a one sentence comment that’s just “screams!” I’ve gotten very few paragraphs from other people, n they’re always so!!!

The perks of being a rarepair writer is that the only people who read my fics are the ones actively looking for content!!! And they can’t complain about my work because No One Else Is Writing For It!!!!!!

Dirk > Get Over It

You don’t get over it. But, you’ve had years of the intrusions to learn to live with it. You pick yourself after time and the sea breeze allow the most persistent of the whispers to fade back into your brain. You don’t know how to stop it. You don’t think you can. Maybe it’s just in the universes’ cards that you’ll never be able to escape the insufferable and unignorable presence of your selves. Splintered, doomed, it’s a big old party full of the one person you hate the most.

You’re on the computer this time, digging into some of the less physical aspects of your work for CrockerCorp. Coding wasn’t your favorite thing, but aside from Roxy and ARq, you were probably one of the better around, and as far as you know, neither of them were helping Jane out on a consulting basis. You ignore the humming in the back of your mind, the phantom disconnect bubbling out from some deep inner core that leaves you watching your hands performing their tasks and yet--not under your control at all. An observer. Weightless, formless, trapped in a world of numbers and words with only a single view to the world beyond.

Only that isn’t right, you could take the stairs to the roof and go wherever the fuck you wanted to. Maybe you’re trapped, but it’s your own damn choice.

That’s the most unnerving of the loose threads, you think, because you know exactly who is leaking through there and at least he has more of a right to inflict this shit on you than any of the others.

It keeps leaking. Mixing. You wonder if one day you’ll stop noticing and cataloging and just accept it all as your lot in life. Maybe even use it.

You send off the finished product--even with clumsy as hell organic interfacing tools, you work more efficiently at this sort of task when your auto-responder rises to the surface--and scroll through your inbox for another one.

One stands out from amongst the mixture of spam emails that somehow keep getting around your ever more sophisticated filter (you suspect ARquiusprite to be behind it, but have no proof) and the more mundane business communication you maintain with CrockerCorp’s research division. You used to go straight through Jane but...as the company expanded it became more efficient to just work directly with the developers since Jane wasn’t very plugged in to that particular aspect for the business. It unnerves you a little, thinking of the small bakery she opened to take back her family name from the Batterwitch, only for the business to balloon into such a multi-industry giant, filling many vital services in this world and only rivaled in scale by Jake’s revival of SkaiaNet.

But you suppose that’s the responsibility of a god, taking the world in hand and guiding it. Benevolent patrons, looking down from on high, shaping the course of history and society into the best form it could be. Someone’s got to recreate the internet (the world’d better thank you and Roxy and ARquiusprite for that) and you weren’t willing to wait around for it to happen organically. Shit needed to get done, and sometimes, the eight of you were the ones who needed to do it.

The rogue email stands out with it’s bright pink text and typo filled subject line. Why would Roxy send you an email? Why didn’t she just hit you up on Pesterchum or--

A thought and you have the window open in the corner of your display, fighting, and failing to resist the urge to press your palms into your face when you notice the little red dot next to Do Not Disturb. A little further digging and you turn up some unread notifications that never got sent due to the privacy settings.

Of fucking course. Of course you’d automatically flip it to DND when in one of your spirals and not even realize it. You remedy that mistake, but instead of scrolling back through Roxy’s messages--there’s also a meme sent your way from Dave, accompanied by an ironic selfie of him and Karkat from, Jesus Christ that was a month ago--you turn back to the email in your inbox. This would be the newest one, given the time stamp, which was only an hour ago.

There’s a picture attached, a night shot of New City, near where Roxy and Calliope set up. Roxy’s got the whole selfie thing going, smiling and radiant for the camera, pink eyes sparkling with mischief as she framed the background shot just perfectly.

There’s an orange and green streak across the cityscape, the tall buildings in the distant background, their lit windows shining like a million stars from across the bay. Calliope has her green-suited arms wrapped tightly around their neck, highlighted by feathered wings obviously hitting the end of their orange end of the gradient and starting down the green path. Despite the obvious speed (you can tell from the way Davepeta’s currently green coat is caught mid-whip behind them) the picture is perfectly clear and focused, as if you are looking through a window into an image frozen in time.

Damn she’s good.

You chew on the inside of your lip, studying the picture. The frozen mixture of delight and mild terror on Calliope’s face. The mischief on Roxy’s. You can’t see Davepeta’s even if you zoom in, what with the ever present glow beneath their skin and the glasses currently matching the same orange of their wings. You bet they are having a blast though. How did they manage to talk Calliope into that? You didn’t talk to the cherub much on your own, but you were under the impression she was a skittish thing.

Your hand moves on its own, triggering the sylladex withdrawal on reflex. The feather hums quietly in your hand. It’s fading. The colors duller. Moving slower. But it’s there and it’s a comfort and…

Maybe you should.

You open Pesterchum back up.

TT begins pestering TG

TT: Sorry Ro-Lal, I was buried in work. TT: If you’re free I could probably head out your way tomorrow. I’m at a lull in my projects.

You aren’t, really, but as you’ve been so clearly reminded by the peanut gallery, none of this shit actually matters. And…

You miss Roxy. If you turn down this invitation…

Well, they already stopped coming once, and you let them.

You don’t expect an answer immediately; the carapacian kingdom was a few timezones ahead of your ocean bound kingdom. It’s well into dinner time and you bet she’s a little busy with her guests and being the most kickass hostess of all time.

You barely pull up another project and start studying the design specifications before the window on your shades spring open, searing excited bright pink across your eyeballs.

TG: omg dirk really??? this is going to be awesome!!! Callie and i promised to take ARq and peta out for more shenanignss but oh my gawd thisll be soo much fun! Itll be liek old times! Ull have to keep me updatedf on ur ETA TG: gawd i havent seen you in so long i might just kiss u TG: plonk a big one rite smack dab on each cheek TT: Don’t make me reconsider now, Rox. TT: You know how I feel about smooches, advanced warning or not these cheeks are off limits without applying for a permit. It’s private real estate. TG: nu’uh buster no take backsies!!! U accepted the invitation u gotta put up with the potential of that ill be so overcome with joy at seeing ur face that there’ll be a shower of friendly smooches TG: see u tomorrow <3 TT: Tomorrow, it is Roxy.

You talk a bit more, but Roxy soon excuses herself to do the hosting thing, and you’re left wondering what you’d gotten yourself into.

You’d forgotten Davepeta was traveling with ARquius.

Trapped. Trapped and it’s your own damn fault.

There’s no way you’ll let Roxy down after all that though.

You’ll just have to deal with it when you get there.

sorry to bother you, but I was wondering about a thing..., so I’m interested in rp-ing but I have absolutely zero idea how to get into it on tumblr? Like, I’ve done it before with one of my irl friends, but idrk how it works here. How do you find people to do it with? How do you let people know you’re interested? Do you have a separate blog for it? is it through dms or? Again sorry for all the questions but I’m v curious and want to get into it but I don’t know how :(

im worried that i wont have a very good answer, though... a lot of the time, i just kinda stumble into it thru blogging and chatting w other ppl in fandom/shipping/writing tags (like w this shiro). at this point i basically just have a handful of ppl i write with who go thru multiple plots w me, with a promising newcomer every once in a while, and most of my chats are rly hit or miss. ive just been blogging and rping for a long time so ive garnered a little interest along the way :’)

i have never rly successfully rpd on tumblr, i also dont know much about it, but i think if u are committed and try to reach out there are a lot of indie rp blogs out there that might try a prompt or scene w you! that seems to be the main way that ppl find partners on here? i have a few rp blogs that follow me, and ive glanced curiously thru to see that they tend to just be writing scenes w other indie rpers by reblogging from each other and adding on

ive seen a lot of rp groups and games in the different rp and rp advertisement tags, but these tend to be more oc focused, and tbh ive joined a couple and its hard to get that many ppl to commit to writing long term, so they tend to peter out quickly. if youre looking to write voltron characters, specifically, sometimes i see discords floating around, but ive only ever joined one, and it was a voltron rp group that was p much dead and died off not long after

i usually write offsite, there are assorted forums i used to check every once in a while, but again forums tend to be more oc focused. most forums have a one on one section where ppl post adverts saying what sort of things they want to write, though, and ppl express their fandom/shipping preferences there! unfortunately thats all i know afojewafjw idr know what the forum scene is like these days

i know that ppl use instant anonymous/chat based sites, but idk much about them, either. theres gen chat sites w rp communities, some actual rp sites, and a homestuck one, but theres more than hs on there now, so it might be worth a look! these chats tend to be v short form and filled w people looking to cyber, so go w caution if u dont want that, and check that ur partner is 18+ if u do want that, but it can be hard to find anon partners looking for ur same fandom, from what i hear. unless its the hs site and ur looking for hs

for the most part, rping online is a lot of hunting and pecking around for partners w varying degrees of success, its rly just a patience game, and learning where and how to advertise urself, but it seems like i can never rly find any rp hot spots these days. forums have always been slow-moving, and are increasingly less popular w platforms like tumblr around, but its hard to find the rp communities here

i get occasional asks abt rps, and i rly think that there should just be a tag or something like #vldrp so we can all tag and find each other!! maybe a blog or a discord? idk anything about running these things, but maybe ill look into it someday. it seems like there rly are a LOT of ppl that want to rp, but everyone is spread out w no idea of where to look!!

hiii~~ a little about me...

my name is jane and i am currently 19 years old and living in the JPT. i understand that this complicates things for a lot of RP'ers (the time zone difference is extreme) but i've been roleplaying since i was 10 and it really takes the stress of daily life away from me and feeds my hopeless romanticism...hahaha...i'm lonely ;-;.....

SO some things about my RP style: because i am typically on my phone, my replies tend to be 1-2 paragraph's long, but usually match the length of whatever am given. if whatever you give me is too long for my writing skills, will probably let you know on the side and try my best anyways. i prefer not to stress too much about the length but i understand it is an important aspect. i will roleplay anything from OC's to canon characters. i do not mind either!! and i am usually flexible when it comes to playing a pairing that you fancy. with that being said though, i do not RP FxF or MxF :/ UNLESS i am playing the female role. i know that's annoying to some, but that's my preference when it comes to the romance aspect of things. buuuutttt, i do really enjoy MxM and am also okay with playing male side character roles that doesn't involve MxF romance. i think that seems fair.

i think it should also just get this out of the way and say i am looking for romance. and you need to be 18+ if you contact me bc smut is an important aspect for me. like not saying every other scene is going to be smutty but like a good 20%?? some plots off the top of my head that i enjoy include fantasy, medieval and victorian era, a/b/o dynamics (not everyone's cup of tea, i understand), and forbidden love. i am open to other ideas as well, of course :) i am terrible at being creative with the bigger picture but when it comes to going into detail i can usually go all out.

hehe, now onto the fandoms!! when it comes to some of these, i can sometimes suck at being completely canon, just because i've been roleplaying for so long and i've picked up my own little tendencies at how a certain character should be along the way. so sorry about that! i am really flexible when it comes to pairings!! so...: harry potter, kuroshitsuji, twilight (lol don't judge me), hunger games, LOTR (a lil rusty on canon), vocaloid, homestuck, youtubers, 1D, ohshc...i feel like that's a pretty solid list.

again, i'm fine with building our own lil world with our own lil characters too c:

other than that, i prefer discussing plots in depth and going over any turn ons/turn offs, kinks, dislikes etc. before we start.

as a 15 year old who is into homestuck rn, your post was interesting! every once in a while i do feel like i missed a reference, but for the most part i feel like i'm getting the experience. i am insanely curious though: what could have possibly been going on in the fandom that inspired the trickster arc?

first of all im glad u liked my post!! i honestly just got really into my thoughts and i had to share it…. im a fake deep hoe LMAO

now to ur question! its a VERY gud one… but unfortunately the answer is kind of troubling. essentially, the short answer is “kids who were pro-social justice.”

to expand on that, u may need some background. homestuck during this time (2013) had a notoriously garbidge fandom, which was well known for being full of infighting. homestuck drew a lot of different fans from a lot of different backgrounds, and it caught on really well with kids on tumblr in the age range of 12-18.

during that time, social justice was getting really popular online, so i can safely say that most of the kids that were homestuck fans were also in support of sj. those who werent were usually intensely anti-sj, and rejected any notions of it, especially where homestuck was concerned. that might seem unrelated, but it actually plays a big part in a lot of problems that came about later on.

one of homestucks biggest positive points was the kids being aracial. hussie made it explicit in tweets and such that the kids were intended to be without race, so readers could fill in whatever they wanted. fan artists really liked that bc it meant they could draw the kids however they chose, and it would technically be canonically accurate. thats a very difficult thing for a webcomic of all things to do, so it was exciting to have the ability to make the kids super diverse, in any sense of the word!

unfortunately, the problem with this is that a lot of those fan artists were still making all the kids white. it didnt help that, in early pages, there were references to the characters being white (specifically bro, though if memory serves, john is also referred to as white), and much of the official merch also depicted them as white, like as the tarot cards that were released a few years back. even though hussie claimed to be dedicated to the aracial concept, there was a lot of pretty damning evidence that suggested he was really just depicting them as white.

pro-sj fans hated this, because even though the kids were TECHNICALLY aracial by the comics standards, it was clear that a bias was there. anti-sj fans defended the comic with their life against that criticism, saying it was the authors choice, and all sorts of similar things. that problem wasnt made any better by the introduction of kankri, a clear parody of Those Awful SJWs and a character which made it seem like hussie was siding with the anti-sj fans after all. at the time, i remember people trying to excuse it away by saying that kankri was an affectionate parody, or that it was only targeting Bad SJWs, or any other sorts of justifications.

it all came to a head in the beginning of the trickster arc tho, which, if you werent aware, originally had jane say this. it didnt help that he then went on to have ALL of the alpha kids appear in the same skin tone, and later made a tweet (that has since been deleted) saying that all of the trickster characters were white. it became pretty clear that the trickster arc, for all that it does contain some plot relevant stuff, was really just an excuse for hussie to isolate and mock the people that made up the majority of his fanbase.

though at the time i didnt fully understand that, looking back, it was a pretty swift knee to the gut for fans whose main reasons for enjoying homestuck had to do with the aracial aspect. on top of that, it was insanely audacious for hussie to even do something like that knowing that he was targeting a pretty sizable amount of his readers. to this day im not entirely sure what possessed him to do it.

naturally, though, there was a MASSIVE backlash, and people were fighting about it for days. a lot of people i knew at the time stopped reading homestuck because of it, and those who stuck with it but dropped it later on cited the trickster arc as the reason why. it got so bad that, soon afterward, he edited the page to the version thats still up, which says “peachy” instead.

the racial aspect aside, even the stuff that happens in the arc proper is pretty clearly based in stuff that was happening amongst fans. in the arc, all the tricksters (except dirk) want to marry each other and have “a zillion babies.” it was a pretty clear joke about shippers in the fandom (especially since the arc ends with dirk and jake breaking up, and they were a fan favorite couple until that point).

lastly, the fact that the arc just skips to the kids being in their respective moons, waiting to go god tier, seemed to be (in my humble analysis) a response to people who complained about the slowness of act 6. the trickster arc speeds the events of the story up considerably, to the point that we dont even see the path they take to get to the moons. they just. end up there. super hungover LMAO

but yeah tl;dr the trickster arc, or the handling of it anyway, was mainly a means of making fun of the pro-sj fans who rightfully addressed the fact that homestuck was failing as an “aracial” story, since there was a clear bias in favor of the kids being white. said mockery bombed spectacularly, cause, surprisingly, making fun of ur target audience is a bad idea.

Chamomile: awww! I’m grateful that this blog exists too (lol). My current favorite type of au’s are murder mystery au’s because of the Rabbit Doubt writing group I’m in so like, expect so many of those coming up soon. I’m also really digging superhero au’s.

M: I’m a fan of the whole “kidnapping / assassin / mob / killer” sort of a trope for some reason - it’s loads of fun to try and mess with original tropes and make them ridiculous, funny, modern, etc.!

Jynn: My fave AUs are ones that incorporate real life twists on typical AUs, like including people with disabilities.

@tomorraw asked: How many of you guys are there? Do certain people answer in certain genre? Or does everyone write what they are given? How did you guys meet? (Btw, this is one of my favorite idea blogs. They are so many different views on different ideas and so many genres.)

Chamomile: Currently there’s four of us! I know admin m and admin jynn from a loooong while back -- like two years back. Admin jynn and I go back to our homestuck roots (love her for that) and we’ve stuck together ever since. We all just kind of write whatever floats our boats! M: I met both Jynn and Chamomile through working on the Night Unvaled, which is a Night Vale Fancast that we wrote and produced. We’ve been friends ever since!! As for the certain genre thing, I can’t really say that we all write solely one genre, but we all certainly have our specialties!! Jynn: We have a posting schedule for who posts what when, but when it comes lists we all just take what interests us. Chamomile and I met more than two years back… in a Homestuck role play. Shortly after, we met M in a podcast project we were all working on and we've all be friends since!

Anon asked: what are some of your favorite tropes?

Chamomile: does “I love the way that you understand me and make me feel like I’m the only person in the world when you pay attention to me” count as a troupe? Like an OTP troupe? Bc that’s my ultimate favorite.

M: My favorite trope is messing with tropes. Best thing.

Anon asked: What is pastel/punk or pastel and punk? I don't get it and google isn't explaining it to me because it's a meany

Chamomile: I remember this AU! It was an AU Friday list that I did and loved doing it! Basically, there’s ‘pastel’ aesthetic which is very like, cutesy baby pink and pastel blues and other ‘soft’ colors being worn with other ‘soft’ aesthetic items like, glitter or hair clips or oversized sweaters ands stuff like that. Then there’s punk aesthetic, which very like, ‘heck all of you, I want to be comfortable and show that I’m rebelling against the social/political norms’. It can vary from person to person, so it might be better just to google ‘punk fashion’. The whole tag is supposed to be sort of an ‘opposite attract’ type deal.

Anon asked: So in regards to the color au in which you only see color once you touch your soulmate: what if you were born blind? Or when you touch your soulmate, it turns out that you are colorblind?

Chamomile: mmmmmm I’m not a fan of this AU bc of reasons I’m too longwinded about. Skipping this question for me.

M: I guess it’s possible and would make for quite the interesting change in AUs from the usual soulmate trope, but make sure you’re careful when it comes to writing AUs about topics you’re not personally familiar with (such as being blind), but go for it!

Jynn: Idk about it. Lmao I'm picky as heck when it comes to soulmate AUs, and this one has the potential to be interesting but never “stuck out” to me.

M: soooooo many: Nightvale, Merlin, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, etc. Too many.

Jynn: Still Homestuck like Chamomile. Various Nexflix series: Voltron, Stranger Things. Miraculous Ladybug too. Lots of Max Fun and Night Vale Presents podcasts, McElroy products. I work about 60 hours and week so I like things I can listen to while doing other things.

Chamomile:....scraps of paper. I have so many. I write down AU ideas and story lines on them and then just like, shove them into my bags and pockets and forget about them.

Fandom: Homestuck Prompt: “5th: Write a letter or a poem to someone who is estranged or distanced from you in some fashion. This can be from your character to that person, or your character musing on a person of interest.” Summary: Nine years ago, two meteors fell to earth, destroying property, killing a horse, and generally making a mess. It still wasn’t as terrible as this email chain.

Dear Roxy,

Look, I know we stopped talking a long time ago, and I know that we both said some things we regret, but I don’t think it’s fair that you’re so distanced from Dave. You need to be a part of his life, if not mine.

Reply to me and we’ll discuss the best way to get this done.

Reading over the email, Dirk “Bro” Strider frowned to himself, and scrolled his mouse over the Send button. All that was left was to wait for it to send, and he picked up one of his smuppets and examined the stitching. It was nearly invisible in places, but in the areas where they were meant to tear as part of a greater composition were too visible, and that offended his sense of perfection.

Seventeen minutes had passed by the time Dirk received his reply.

Immature, Roxy, Dirk thought sourly. You could have just said no. Before he could stop himself, he began to type, rapidly, densely, using words as rapier-sharp as his sword.

Roxy.

There is no point in us being estranged from one-another. We exist for the same purpose and there’s no reason to oppose each other. You are being unnecessarily stubborn, perhaps fuelled by alcohol or some other equally poor decision. Rose will require extensive training for her future purpose, just as Dave will require your knowledge of the secret machinations of this situation.

I strongly recommend that you rethink your eloquent, elaborate response to my correspondence and get your head in the game.

With a decisive, angry click, he sent the email.

Waiting proved to be difficult; rather than being able to sew or examine his smuppets, he got up and sorted through some of the cupboards in the kitchen. Empty boxes listed to one side from the breeze of his flashstep, and he managed to catch a few before the rest tumbled off the pile.

Recycling. I need to get some recycling done. What am I going to do with all of these boxes? He lost himself in the task for a few minutes, before the chime came from his email client, and he abandoned all pretense of trying to clean.

Dirk inhaled sharply. He exhaled. He did it again a few times, and found that he wasn’t getting any calmer. He wasn’t getting any better ideas.

Fine.

Be that way.

Dave will be the greatest champion the world has ever fucking seen while Rose stands befuddled in her gin-and-olive scented living room because she had the ultimate fucking misfortune to have *you* be her parent.

He knew it was a mistake the moment he hit send. He knew it would hurt her. He knew that, if his overture had been sincere, that this would set him back massively in his attempts to reconcile. If his ability to correctly assess his actions had come a little sooner, if he had simply deleted his message and started over, been more sincere, perhaps he could have avoided it.

Instead, he could only try to ask forgiveness.

Roxy, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that. I shouldn’t have said that. You’re right, I did say those things, and I shouldn’t have. We lost Jane. We lost Jake. Maybe we can still make things right.

Please, talk to me. I need you.

The reply back was immediate, but discouraging.

“No,” Dirk whispered softly. “Roxy, no. Don’t--” Don’t, what? Don’t avoid someone who is screaming at you? Don’t take the words of a gigantic asshole seriously? Don’t leave me, all alone except for a child I’m not prepared to raise and never have been? “Don’t.”

He slumped in his chair, and pulled off his sunglasses, throwing them against his monitor, and they bounced lightly. He buried his face in his hands, grinding his palms against his eyes, as though scratching his corneas could somehow solve things.

“Bro?” Dave’s voice was soft, curious. Cautious, wary. “What’s wrong?”

A visceral feeling of self-loathing and anger went through him in a wave, and ruthlessly crushed them, though he’d promised he never would again. Never stop himself from feeling, take chances with his heart when he’d long forgotten.

Bro Strider looked up at his young sibling, only eight or nine by his reckoning, and gestured. “Come here, lil man.”

Dave peered at him, curious, and then climbed into his lap. He wasn’t quite enough of a cool kid not to squeak when Bro hugged him tightly, and stroked his hair a little.

It didn’t count as crying if no one could see you doing it.
