Out to dinner w/ Blake Lively | New York City, NY | September 16, 2023
Tod's 'Leather Crossbody Mini Bag' - $1,825.00 Foundrae 'Petite Chubby Ear Hoop' - $1,570.00 & Other Stories ‘Leather Knee Boots’ - £145.00 (no longer available)
Taylor continues her social streak in NYC, heading out to dinner with Blake Lively at a members only club wearing a neutrals-dominated outfit (my favourite kind). A few people asked me how I felt about the combination of a cropped black cardigan, slate grey mini skirt, and burgundy boots. To which I say: Yes. This is definitely an outfit I'd personally wear.
But what's so fun about it is that the idea of a pleated skirt and boot combination is not new to Taylor's style. She's been wearing some iteration of this pairing ever since she was a teen. What's fun to watch is how she makes slight styling adjustments to make it more current and also more 'her' of today. It's that blend of familiarity but modernity that I feel is so relatable to Taylor's style and what makes her feel so approachable and real, but also recognizable for those who have been observing her 'fits change from era to era. She's always there underneath at all!
That aside, these particular boots actually have a story within Taylor's fashion history. They first debuted in November 2014 and haven't been seen since winter 2015. With 1989 (TV) around the corner, this obviously has my brows raised. If intentional, what a throwback.
The Tod's bag is one she also wore earlier this year with a vintage NYU sweater.
On the jewelry front, this particular style from Foundrae (a brand she's been loving as of late in her pursuit of the perfect stack) does come in a cute initial version which would be very up Taylor's alley (she loves initial jewelry). However, given that she owns and has worn the matching necklace of the pictured style, this is the one I'm going with for now.

Valice Calendar: Happy "Started Thinking Of Fanfic" Anniversary!
Hi everyone! We're back to acknowledging the final few important dates on the Valice( r) Calendar, and today could be seen as a real doozy -- it's the first date I could find in my old LiveJournal entries where I mentioned wanting to write Victor/Alice fanfic! Again, the entry itself is probably fairly incomprehensible if you weren't already familiar with me and my quirks back then (like talking to myself about my day in the guise of chatting with my fifteen million AU versions of Doc Brown -- yes, the whole "how many fucking AUs do you have" thing was well-established even then), but the gist of it was that I'd just completed NaNoWriMo, and was looking for a new writing project! And because I was already considering how to add versions of Victor and Alice to this LJ RP game I was part of at the time ("Beyond The Rift," where people from other worlds were falling into an alternate Chicago full of magic-users and demons and angels via "rifts" that gave them weird superpowers -- it was a bizarre, if fun, game), I found myself thinking a lot of how I might get them to meet in a way that didn't involve chucking them both into another universe. This was BEFORE Alice: Madness Returns was a thing, remember, so I didn't have "Victor getting chucked off to Dr. Bumby" as a crutch! I ended up just skirting the issue for my first few fanfics (such as the very first one, "Suffocating"), and then came up with "maybe Victor and Alice met as kids once" (leading to "By The Riverside"), and then started doing stuff with Alice having an uncle, Charles, who was a solicitor and thus might be involved with the Van Dorts (this is the origin of the Uncle Charles and Aunt Susan who show up in the Secundus Verse, which itself was prompted by me getting into steampunk and having what I thought was a cool mega-crossover idea for NaNoWriMo one year), and then A:MR came out, and I came up with the "hey, what if Victor got sent to Dr. Bumby because his parents didn't believe him about Emily?" idea (leading to the Forgotten Vows Verse) and then --
Um. Well. We can see how far I've come, can't we? ^^; (Though admittedly, the "fanfic" tag on this tumblr also includes non-Valice fanfics from me (generally gift fics for friends), and fanfics from other people, Valice-related (like "Beneath A Broken Sky") and non-Valice-related.) But yeah -- I think I've gotten over whatever mental hurdles I had before regarding finding a way to get them together for fanfic purposes. XD

TWITTER: MARINA IN ALICE + OLIVIA T-SHIRT
Marina took to her Twitter account on October 15th, 2018 to post a selfie of herself wearing a quite statement-making T-shirt which we’re going to talk about today.
Tumblr media
Marina rocked the Cicely tee by NYC-based label Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet. It features the quirky motto “Just A Girl Who Decided To Go For It” printed in a pale pink color on the front. Unfortunately, it’s sold out.

The singer completed her look with these gold-tone rippling wave hoop earrings from & Other Stories.

Top 3 Perfumes
I was asked recently what my favourite perfumes were, and I knew right away what to say. I absolutely love fragrance and have quite a few that I like and love, but there are always 4/5 that will stand head and shoulders above the rest. First, I want to talk about the London based perfume house, Miller Harris, founded in 2000 they like to blend British luxury with couture sophisticated fragrance.…

And Other Stories
Presented on a false cinderblock monitor in the midst of an evolving dreamscape that calls to mind the color aesthetics of really compressed GIF files, And Other Stories is an autobiographical exploration of memory quadfold using the Bitsy engine. The experience of playing it is one of scattered attention, as you’re greeted with four Bitsy games running side-by-side (each screen blending into one-another Exquisite Corpse style), and you control the player character for all simultaneously. Each area is littered with interactive objects that fill you in on the memory itself or are part of contextual narration for the scene being set – and you will accidentally bump into these triggers easily.
Pulling your focus in any one story will almost inevitably involve a mental process of “okay, the next narration bit is over there – oh, fuck, someone’s talking to me to me on the left (who are they?), and in walking I’ve accidentally skipped halfway through the narration down there.” It’s disorienting, though perhaps fitting given the recurring theme of drunken festivity for all of the vignettes. Your attention will flit between these linked memories as you piece together the shape of them, if not the exact details.
The dreamscape isn’t just there as a pretty frame to the game, either – the various objects you interact with mutate your surroundings – bottles appear in the blue sea, flowers grow on the monitor’s lower rim, a hearth gradually burns. As you progress, your mindscape will transform, becoming cluttered with the various mementos from each meta-game, though likely not as cluttered as they could be, seeing as you’re also quite likely to stumble into the trigger that forwards the ‘plot’ with no going back.
In the end, this all meant I had to replay the game four times focusing on a different vignette each time to get the full story, which arguably takes away from the intended simultaneity, but I doubt most people would be able to juggle them perfectly, and the writing and subject matter itself is strongly connected enough without immediate juxtaposition. If you’re looking for a little slice of life (albeit one that goes somewhat heavy), or you want to explore experimental storytelling, give it a shot.

WIP ask game -- #1 and #5 for something that you haven't posted yet
something not posted... 👀
How long have you been working on the WIP?
March 31st, 2019, I opened a file for Chameleon. Technically this violates the 'work not posted' very slightly, in that I originally posted it (April 27th) as a little prompt fill and then decided that I wanted to expand it. I open it periodically, but the thing that's tripping me up is writing the situation on Mandalore 😅
5. How do you feel about posting chapters before the fic is finished (with this one and/or in general)?
Honestly... most of the time I post chapters because I get a posting trigger-finger. I think originally the idea was that posting WIPs would hold me to finishing them. Mostly I treat WIPs like an immortal vampire leaving loads of unfinished projects lying around. I will certainly get back to them someday! At least I hope so, and for the most part I mean to. However, when I wrote Taking Root, it took up an interesting place in my brain, as a two-part [er... three-part] one-shot. Similarly Pudding Cups—it was written as a whole work, then broken up into chapters after the fact. Because it was written for the Secret Santa exchange, it was also written as a whole piece and broken down into chapters after. Cords of Honour and Exposure were/are being written in a more serial manner. With Cords of Honour, I knew the end goal, more or less, but in a very vague sense. Same goes for Final Transmission. This is different from Good Knight, where I know the ending—that should have been a three-part oneshot btw.

Some spins on the "mostly male team with a token woman" trope:
The woman is trans and stayed in her old circle of bros even after transition
The woman is the only one in her circle of "girls" who didn't turn out to be a trans man
