Just for fun, here are my rapid fire rambling thoughts on the ATLA ships and platonic dynamics hehe (please don’t go full ship wars tho - these are just my opinions as a chill multishipper!)

My Favorite Ships:

• Zukka - My current brainrot and main ship!! I know they aren’t canon but I really love them and their potential okay😭I just feel like their personalities would work so well! Sokka would call Zuko on his shit and Zuko would be good at grounding Sokka when he needs it. Plus I have seen some absolutely breathtaking AUs with this ship! And fire-and-ice vibes except gay! Them <3

• Kataang - Cutiessss!! I love them! They may not be the ship I think about most often, but when I do think about them, they’re adorable! Aang is such a “my wife” guy and Katara absolutely adores him back! Also the last airbender x last southern waterbender dynamic goes HARD! I like that these two are canon!

• Yuetara - Listen I know they barely interacted but THEY’VE ACTUALLY GROWN ON ME SO MUCH LATELY AND I VERY HIGH KEY SHIP THEM! Something about like, Katara thinking about Yue when she bends is so😭Their story would be heartbreaking in the best way!! Sapphic noncanon blorbos <3

• Mailee - These two are SO cute and have so much potential rahhh!! Again, love some noncanon sapphics <3

• Batkoda - Super SUPER cute and silly and fun! The dads fr <3 Bato is either Katara and Sokka’s adopted uncle or their stepdad and I love it for them hehe! This usually pairs well with a “Hakoda adopts Zuko” AU lmao!

Other Canon/Relatively Popular Ships:

• Zutara - A pretty good ship! I see the potential and tbh it’s very very fun to think about sometimes!!! However, some of y’all toxic Zutara stans need to leave my boy Aang alone lmao. Those who are chill tho, I rock with y’all!! Overall, I’m not opposed if it’s done well and I do occasionally seek out Zutara content! I personally do prefer seeing/writing them as found siblings tho, especially with the Azula and Katara parallels!!

• Sukka - Canon cuties!! I really like them! Suki my BELOVED <3 She’s so underrated!

• Yukka - Also canon cuties! They make me sad tho ahhhhh😭😭😭

• Maiko - Also ALSO canon cuties!! They have an interesting dynamic that I can really appreciate! And gotta love Mai <3

• Jinko - Jin my beloved! These two had a super cute dynamic during the one episode they had together lmaoooo, tho I don’t think about this ship too too often.

• Tokka - I don’t mind it if it’s them getting together as adults! But tbh I personally don’t prefer shipping them as teens and I think Toph’s crush was just a typical young girl crush on someone slightly older lol. Definitely not horrible and most Tokka shippers are relatively chill! I like to think Sokka sees Toph as a little sister tho.

Now For Some Of The Crackship-y/Less Popular Ships (based on ships I’ve actually seen):

• Zukki (Zuko/Sokka/Suki) - Power throuple fr and I love some polyamory!! While I mostly lean plain Zukka, this is extremely fun to think about and would be a great dynamic!

• Mai/Ty Lee/Suki - Saw this in a Zukka fic once and it was adorableeeeee! I may not have plans to actively write this or anything, but it’s cute! Another power throuple!

• Jetko - I don’t think they would be compatible long term, but by god they are very very fun to think about in a “Jet flirts with Zuko and Zuko is completely oblivious and they share one kiss before everything goes to shit” way lmao!

• Taang - I can respect it!! I will always love them as chaos siblings personally, but it’s a totally valid and chill ship!

• Katoph - Not a bad ship at all! I’ve only come across like one post tho lmao. Also I do think I heavily prefer them as found sisters, but that’s just me personally! Again, totally a valid and chill ship!

• Azutara - I’m very neutral on this lmao. I don’t despise it at all and it could be pretty interesting?? But tbh really not something I plan to seek out.

• Azulaang - I mean?? I’m also pretty neutral on this one. Aang would be kind to her if she was trying to get help but…idk lmao.

• Tyzula - I see the potential, but I personally think Mai and Ty Lee had a healthier and more interesting and more realistic dynamic. Just my preference tho!

(I think I just want Azula to be in therapy before I reallyyyyy ship her lmao, but NOT THE KIND OF “THERAPY” SHE WAS GIVEN IN THE COMICS)

• Zukaang - I don’t love this as a ship honestly. The canon age gap as teens is sketchy for my personal taste, tho I’ve seen people ship them in “Aang was 16 when he got frozen” AUs and that’s…better and I can get behind it a little! It would be interesting! But I think Roku being Zuko’s great-grandpa just still throws me off of this ship. I don’t have any beef with the shippers tho! I’m very “live and let live” and I have seen so much worse lol.

Can’t Forget My Fav Platonic Dynamics!

• Sokka and Aang - Two found brothers who share one idiot braincell when they interact LMAO! Love them always <3

• Sokka and Katara - The siblings ever!!

• Zuko and Aang - Enemies to found brothers!! Canon besties! I love their friendship and their parallels SO MUCH!!

• Toph and Katara - Absolutely ADORABLE as found sisters!!!! Love them!

• Zuko and Katara - I really like their development in a platonic sense and I think they’re very very fun and lovely found siblings by the end!!!! Zuko is 100% the brother that just “yeah my sister can and will whoop your ass” LMAO!

• Zuko and Toph - Also very found siblings in my head!! Only have a handful of solo interactions in canon but I DON’T CARE! I WILL FOUND FAMILY THEM ANYWAY! I’m a “Toph seeks out Zuko for sibling hugs/cuddles when she’s cold because he’s basically a space heater” truther.

• Uncle Iroh and the Gaang - Zuko needs to learn to share because that is ALL OF THEIR Uncle!!!

• Hakoda and Zuko - I thrive in this section of the fandom!! They have exactly one (1) frame together in canon, but I ADORE Dadkoda adopting Zuko! Something about it is just so wholesome and cute!!! My very very fav ATLA fics are this trope!!#LetHakodaBitchSlapOzaiAndAdoptZuko2024

• Uncle Iroh and Zuko - God they make me so ALSNDKSNXNCNSNSNXNX, y’know?

• The Gaang as a whole - Obvious I know, but I really do love them😭They all bonded sm and I adore their little family!! I eat up fanart of the Gaang cuddling like CANDY omg. And yes Suki is included in the Gaang because WHY WOULDN’T SHE BE!

Hey what are your avatar otps besides azulaang?

oh umm… I wouldn’t call them OTPs since that is exclusively Azulaang, but my bi Azula headcanon lives in a variety of ships. Azutara, Azuki, Maizula… not Tyzula tbh because that feels like… imbalanced? and not Tophzula because they are menace-besties but not romantic, but with any of the other girls I think it could be great. Azutara has the enemies to lovers from Azulaang but with more spice and less forgiveness, they‘d tear eachother apart first but that makes it even sweeter if they eventually fall in love. Azuki is kind of different because Suki is more rational and holds less of an emotional grudge, it‘d be difficult for Azula to earn her trust but she would not be openly hostile to her unless necessary. I imagine this one could only happen if Azula is already in the middle or post redemption though, because Suki would not put up with any EtL shit. I guess that is exactly why it intrigues me too, I feel Suki would be more willing to give Azula a chance, more than Katara for example, but at the same time it would be impossibly hard to win her trust and I‘d like to see if Zula can manage it. Lastly Maizula, and I prefer this one over Tyzula because I feel Mai is more capable of holding her own against Azula in a relationship. It’s a complicated version of childhood friends to lovers and I‘m kind of here for it. No idea how it would work though lol.

Aside from Azula ships, I think Zutara is pretty cool and works well alongside Azulaang. Kataang is kinda cool in theory too, but I don’t like shipping Aang with anyone except Azula, it feels wrong 🤷‍♂️ The only other Aang ship I can imagine liking is Zukaang, but I don’t talk about it much.

Oh and I have to give a shoutout to Sokkla, I don’t particularly vibe with it but they’re the sister ship to Azulaang and I do see the potential of the two genius strategists, so if Aang didn’t exist I would definitely ship Sokkla instead. Nothing but love to the comrades over there. 🫶🏼

edit: totally forgot this but I actually also love Tylaang aka Ty-Lee and Aang, it just has absolutely no fandom so it’s hard to get the ball rolling. I just feel they would be such a wholesome bubbly cute ship, and I dig the Ty-Lee airbender ancestry theory so she‘d love to learn all about airbender customs and they‘d have so much fun and probably a huge family 😅 anyway I think party of why I ship this is just because I think these two deserve the world and it represents my wish for them to be totally carefree and happy. you can also add Azula and make this a throuple, I think that would work because you have Tyzula as the polar opposites and Aang in the middle to bridge the gap.

speaking of throuples I enjoy the idea of… Azutaraang? (Azula/Katara/Aang) but it is very difficult to make work. The only way I can see it is if Azula and Katara fall in love first because nothing good could come of them fighting over Aang. or maybe I could see like a stranded on a deserted island AU where the three of them have to work together and learn to rely on eachother… idk, difficult but not impossible.

Oh and I love Zuki too (Zuko x Zuki) …damn I guess I do have quite a few non-Azulaang ships. anyway this is essentially a bodyguard AU and it’s actually my favorite Zuko ship (sorry Zutara) not much to say about it cuz I’ve barely engaged with it, but I love the idea and think they would just work really well together. I also can see this as a throuple with Sokka again. I don’t really vibe with Zukka on their own but if you add Suki then I love it, because Suki deserves two good boys and it’s more fun for everyone involved if those two good boys are in love with eachother too.

final edit hopefully: Sokka Azula Aang is good too, for the same reasons listed for Zuko Suki Sokka, I swear that’s it now. goodbye lol.

sokka’s treatment in lok was astonishing tbh but i’m actually glad he was dead by the time the series started bc toph being a cop??? aang being an awful dad???? they would’ve ruined him and suki’s characters lbr.

as far as any possible kids go idk we didn’t meet suyin till book 4 we barely saw izumi i think they just didn’t want to make the new series be a atla reunion plus lok was only meant to be one season so they were making that shit up as they went along lmao. and back in 2012-14?? they didn’t know themselves what happened to sukka lmao.

sokka and suki are definitely the type to break up bc of long distance but then find their way back to each other a few years later especially as they settle into their roles in life.

while bryke definitely neglect suki and sokka to some capacity also they do have a soft spot for suki after bringing her back. many don’t consider her to be team avatar but they’ve stated they do so idk ! she shows up a lot in the comics which have obv been created post-lok and it’s been said that they’ll utilise it’s plots and characters in shall see in future projects (crane fish town becoming republic city maybe??? where suki currently is working?? and sokka later lives!!)

i’m p sure suki will be in it at some capacity anyway and that there’ll stick with jennie as she’s one of the few asian og va’s. she’s doing a lot of work atm for avatar studios.

also random but i literally found out today that it’s not bryke-confirmed that mai and zuko end up together. it was a comment on a panel by the old comic writer. it’s not technically canon. izumi is the spit of mai anyway but hmm! interesting!!

btw btw suyin’s father was def a sandbending outlaw who toph had a secret relationship with that couldn’t be public bc of her role as police chief x

oo big ask ok let me break this up into different paragraphs …

fist point - one thing i will admit about lok is that it fell short in incorporating the original characters into the new series in an interesting way with enough verisimilitude (realistic-ness) that it didn’t feel like they were just throwing a popular character into an episode for the sake of it. such as the whole ‘aang is a bad dad’ thing because they under-utilised him as a mentor figure to korra and instead focused on his supposed favourite son (i have thoughts on this re. aang NOT being a ‘Bad’ dad but i will make another post on it if u are interested (or have i alr made one? i’ll make another one.))

i have to agree that they would’ve probably done something shitty to sokka or suki if they were included. especially with the entire first season of lok being about bender/non-bender equality… i can just imagine they’d make sokka say something dumb about the equalist movement being 100% Bad instead of him actually supporting some of their completely valid arguments. idk. i’m sad there’s no sukka but at the same time…. quit while ur ahead yk.

second point - sukka long distance relationship is so real ESPECIALLY during their first few years together. i can see them just kinda calling it off because of commitment issues due to their work, etc. but not ever really losing feelings. they’d be endgame tho🥰

i can absolutely see suki being in upcoming projects! especially since she and the other kyoshi warriors expanded their reach across the nations - it would be hard to ignore them completely if we’re assuming they’re including comic canon into the universe. i hope jenny returns!!

third point - yeah! how crazy that maiko as izumi’s parents isn’t canon confirmed… though she’s so clearly mai’s daughter. i wonder if mai’s role will be expanded in upcoming projects / if she’ll be featured more. hmmm.

fourth - would honestly prefer this to the theory sokka is her father lol. it kinda baffles me that TOPH became a cop.. not bc she opposes authority - there’s something different about enforcing it than there is having to follow it. i can see toph in authoritative positions, and she fits them well. but i think it baffles me moreso because why would toph even work as a COP? isn’t that boring as hell for her?? go do something awesome like probending or professional underground fighting (adult blind bandit anyone?? this would make a good fic) or literally just construction idk i feel like toph isn’t a Hard Worker type that would want to be stuck in such a rigid career.

11. “Don’t you dare throw that snowba-, goddammit!”

Thanks for the ask!!!

“Don’t you dare throw that showba-“ His face was filled with snow before he could even finish the word, “Goddammit!” The force of the snowball had been enough to knock him on his feet.

“Come on, Fire Lord." There was a giant smile on Sokka's face, "You need to have a little fun every now and then." Zuko didn't move.

"Zuko?" Sokka asked.

He brought a hand to his face which made Sokka's heart start to pick up. He knelt down, praying he hadn't hurt his boyfriend, "Zuko. I'm so sorry. Did I hurt you? I didn't mean-" Snow covered Sokka's face before he could finish.

Zuko's laughter filled the air, "Now that is funny."

"That was dirty."

"Don't get mad just because you didn't think of it first." Zuko smirked.

"Yeah, but I did think of this first." Sokka had a poorly made snowball in his hands and, as quick as he could, put the snow down Zuko's coat.

"Oh! So cold. Cold, cold, cold."

"You're a firebender. Warm yourself up." Sokka reminded him.

He did and the snow in his coat melted, but, since it was freezing in the South Pole, that water froze very quickly. Sokka, who knew Zuko was in no real danger, got up.

"Okay. Let's get you back to the huts before you freeze to death."

"Can you imagine a Fire Lord freezing to death?" Zuko asked.

"You'd never hear the end of it from Azula." Sokka chuckled.

They returned to the village, finding their room and curling up on a bed. By now, Zuko was warmed up but the two still preferred this rare time of relaxation in the warm hut to being out in the cold.

That being said, Zuko still had one task he had to finish.

"Sokka?"

"Mmm." Sokka mumbled, half asleep.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

Zuko gave him a light kiss on the cheek.

Then promptly threw snow onto his face, bolted up and to another hut. Maybe if he found Katara she would protect him.

"ZUKO!!"

1 The acrid smell of isopropyl alcohol singes the inside of Leorio’s nose. Pietro doesn’t stay still long enough for him to clean the ulcers that have opened on the undersides of his arm- shivering with imaginary chills amidst the summer heat that blankets New York City. He’s rewet the old rag that sits on his forehead below the fringe that’s started to mat together but it offers no help to the burning boy. At some point, he loses the ability to designate who’s shaking. Him, or Pietro. It’s when Pietro gives another chest-rattling cough that Leorio lets himself accept the fact that his friend is going to die. Despite the coins he scraped together to get the supplies needed to tend to his friend, despite the begging for rich women’s handkerchiefs, despite his efforts- Pietro is going to die.

2 “Oi, get back on the court and stop canoodling with Shimizu-san.” A looming voice says from the court and Suga narrows his gaze on Daichi.“If anyone canoodles with Kiyoko-san, it's me.” Tanaka declares, thumb pressed to his puffed out chest.“What’s ‘canoodle’ mean?” Hinata questions from the net.“Canned soup.” Kageyama says and Hinata nods, content.From the corner of his eye, he sees Tsukishima place his face into his palm and wants to follow in suit.

3 Sokka never would’ve guessed that when he started college, he would soon get very aquatinted with his dorm room’s floor. The cheap stick-on tile placed diagonally with those yellow and red squares peppered throughout them. Sometimes, he was on his hands and knees feeling around under his twin bed for his headphones that always somehow managed to end up in the farthest, dustiest corner. Sometimes he was kicking empty beer cans to that same corner while the floor’s absolutely nuts RA dropped in for her umpteenth hygiene check. But lately, he was with Zuko. Zuko was fictional. He had to be. Or at least that’s what he thought when his roommate first unlocked their door and paused in the doorway when they’d met for the first time. There was no way in hell that it was even remotely fair to Zuko to look the way he did– even with a gnarly burn wound blooming across the left of his face– wisps of dark hair curling where it met the collar of his shirt. He was the embodiment of every tortured, panty dropper, heartthrob he’d ever read about in his ex-girlfriend’s books (although Suki claimed to never know where they came from) and at that moment, Sokka felt as if his body had plummeted through the earth’s core and was shooting out the ass-end of the planet and somewhere into the stratosphere because holy shit he’s never seen a guy more attractive in his life.

So like, ignoring Korra and the comics ofc, cos they're bad, lol, I've been thinking. Sokka, being the Chieftain's son and eldest child of the Southern Water Tribe, sets to inherit that role and position. In general, I personally can't see Sokka abandoning this duty when he gets older either; he would be an integral part of rebuilding his tribe, and I believe that would be for life and in marriage too. But I can't see any of his potential romantic pairings in the show really fitting this future. What do you think? Do you think Suki would be likely to leave the Kyoshi warriors for the South Pole? I feel like she's the most obvious contender but also somehow I'm not sure, if her duties lie to Kyoshi, how would that story go down if she chooses Sokka? Or to indulge in other popular Sokka ships lol- Toph and her bare feet ≠ not a good combination with perpetual ice. Azula would ironically work and also be hilarious, but still, it's Azula, so not necc best for her even if I do have a peculiar taste for that crackship. What do you think? In like, ideal canon, how would you write both the long term future of the Southern Water Tribe and their Leadership, and also Sokka's direction with relation to this, and his er, romantic future? (Ofc we all know that Katara marries Zuko and becomes Fire Lady in any timeline ;)) I've read all your ATLA fics, they're some of my favourites, but a lot of them are AUs that focus on more pressing issues ofc than the rebuilding of the Water Tribe in a time of peace, and after the War. Although I do like your alternative approach in Fate Deferred, for example, and Sokka X Spirituality, what are your thoughts on this in a more... idk... normal setting or situation?

It's an interesting question. In Fate Deferred, Sokka actually mentions in Chapter 20 that Hakoda objected to the idea of him marrying Suki precisely because he believes Sokka, as the future chief, needs a Water Tribe wife. In Sin and Duty, I deliberately avoided any reference to Suki or whether Sokka is married or not for the same reason I avoided naming Zuko's wife, namely that answering those questions was beyond the scope of the story and I preferred to leave it open to interpretation in that case. Finally, in Peace & Love, which is probably the most canon compliant of my AUs, there are a few references to Sokka and Suki's relationship being a source of contention because Suki doesn't want to live at the south pole.

So yeah realistically I do think this would be an issue for Sokka and Suki, though not one they couldn't overcome. Other pairings for Sokka, while they might be fun to explore in an AU, seem a lot less likely. If Sokka ended up with someone other than Suki in canon, it would probably be a woman from the Southern Water Tribe we otherwise haven't heard of.

i've decided katara is absolutely in a sorority but the frat side is whats giving me trouble

because here's the thing

i go to a small school and frat culture here is way diff than at like a big school, it's a lot less harmful and scary here and more just living in a house full of silly boys

so for this post assume the university they go to is a small liberal arts-y sort

now that we have that straight, sokka frat boy

IN THE SPECIFIC SMALL SCHOOL FRAT ENVIRONMENT. IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSEEEEE

the gaang usually only goes to parties if they're at sokka's house which he is a part of but doesn't live at (common and allowed at smaller schools) because how could he abandon roomie aang

i want katara in a historically SWT sorority i feel like being around other women with southern water tribe heritage would be so important to her

now i know what ur thinking. why isnt cheerleader!ty lee also in a sorority but i beg of u to remember she has so many real life sisters already

as a sister haver i would never join a sorority i am already drowning in sisters

and philanthropy come onnnnnn katara would go crazy for that

Take a look at my TBR!

Now, like most anyone who reads things, and reads them extensively, I have a tbr. So! Let's take a look at a couple fics on my list.

To Open Every Door to Night, To Meet Each Rising Sun by Erisenyo Avatar: The Last Airbender, (Sokka/Zuko), 240k, Fire Nation Politics, AU-Post-Canon I picked this up towards the end of my interest in ATLA so I got about halfway through reading it before I was interrupted and then I just couldn't pick it back up again. I loved the writing and the characterization was stunning. It was great! I'm hoping I get to finish it one day.

The Leap by FriendofCarlotta Supernatural, (Destiel), 82k, AU-Cold War, The Berlin Wall This Destiel fic is set in Cold War era Germany and has equal amounts of pining and period-typical homophobia. I originally picked this fic up as part of the 2022 DCBB and because I liked the art that went with it. I read the first two chapters of this fic and then had to set it down because it was pretty heavy and I'm just not into SPN enough anymore to carry myself through 80k of vintage angst. If you liked 91 Whiskey you'll like this fic.

There are no wolves left in Ireland by CatSteppingOnAKeyboard IT x Derry Girls, (gen), 70k, Biblical Horror, Humor The only reason I haven't read this fic yet is that I haven't watched Derry Girls. I LOVED this authors previous two works (here and here) so I'm willing to try but I haven't gotten around to it. I have great confidence that this fic will be wonderful.

I'm sorry to report that I still prefer Coldwave but the first part of this series was so precious I mostly just haven't gotten around to reading part 2.

Macushla by Hinn_Raven Batman Comics (multi), 12k, Stephanie Brown-Centric, AU-Assassins You know those fics you hold onto purely in anticipation of their greatness? No? Just me? Hinn_Raven has written several other fics that I love and that I've already recced on this blog but I've mostly held out on this fic out of cowardice.

Something I want to note is that none of these fics are bad or lacking in any way. Sometimes with fanfic you meet a fic at exactly the right time, or exactly the wrong one. Just 'cause I haven't read them doesn't mean you can't!

Fandoms & Ships

I am a true nerd, and as such, continously seek out new media and their fandoms, and become involved with them, while also cyclically coming back to the ones I already love. I am a romantic, and I love see love in general (all types of love, not just romantic!), so I am also a very big shipper!

I don't always have a set ship(s) for every fandom I find myself in, nor do I think it necessary to try and "prove" that mine are better than other ships. I like what I like, and I like seeing what others like as well. So I might have OTPs, but I also like engaging with content for all kinds of ships, even true rarepairs.

I also don't think it necessary for a fandom to have ships, so just because I have a listed ship that I like/love, doesn't mean I can't have neutral/objective thoughts and opinions about that particular piece of media.

Would anyone (18+ only please) be down for a Zuko x Sokka from Avatar the Last Airbender rp? I'm open to playing either character but I do tend to have a slight preference for Zuko, but I'll do either.

Plot wise I don't have much as I like to work together to make something but I do prefer to have something close to canon. We could do something with it being shortly after Zuko is crowned firelord and Sokka comes over to hang out and help Zuko relax. The two fall in love. Either slow burn or not, it's up to you.

I'd like to include mpreg and/or omegaverse themes but it's not required.

I prefer longer replies, roughly 4-6 paragraphs but so long as we keep it at 1 paragraph per response then I'm good.
