Personally when I first saw the movie not knowing much about Queen other than their greatest hits, they really fooled me with the whole Mary being the love of Freddie’s life bullshit until I went on Tumblr and it thankfully immediately landed me into Jimercury blogs lol. But yes aside from the straightwashing, the movie is just not a good movie. The first watch was okay, watching it the second time with my friend who’s also obsessed with Queen - it’s like playing this game of “When is the next Mary appearance” because holy f*ck she literally appears like every two f*cking minutes it was so annoying. Like ENOUGH about her. I want to watch a movie about QUEEN, not Freddie Mercury and Mary Austin’s Great Love Story. Tbh after my first watch I didn’t get that ride or die loving family vibe/dynamics from the band that Queen actually had irl; they focused so much on their arguments, differences and Freddie being a diva that they lost the essence of what Queen is. It’s also the reason why it didn’t pull me into discovering more about who they are; I only got obsessed with Queen after my friend told me about their real story and introduced me into their deep cuts. They missed so many significant points in their career and also the relationship dynamics between the boys. They could’ve made the movie about the band as young musicians with great dreams barely scraping by in the early years including the market days, getting their first gig in Cornwall as Queen and watching the moon landing at Roger’s house, finding John, first taste of popularity in 74 US tour and Japan, their great breakout from Trident, Hot Space-Munich, their reach for success, controversies like Sun City and also arguments in the studios. It could’ve been a great 70-80s Found Family movie; it’d still work as a Freddie-centric story - he found his first family in three other boys who embraced him for who he was, who championed his talents and vision, who didn’t care that he was a poor gay immigrant - he found his second family in the Garden Lodge boys and finally found the true love of his life and settled down happily in his final years. They focused so much on this “official” simplified story of them cruising to success other than maybe some initial scenes of showing them being exploited by manageent and also on the Mary arc, they missed that vibe of a group of starry-eyed, ambitious friends spending their summers making music in the studios together in the day and stargazing at night - the softer, quieter moments (like Drowse. That song captures what I want to see in a Queen film.) Yeah maybe this wouldn’t have sold as many tickets and it would’ve been like too long but I would absolutely love to see it done this way, as in make it into a TV series.

Haha yeah, the Mary thing irked me a lot as well, because it's obvious what they were trying to do with her portrayal. And many people got the impression that she was The One True Love and all. But it was also clear to many others that she was just a friend, as you can see in the reblogs of one of my recent ask responses. It all comes down to how you perceive it, but yeah, I agree that it seemed like an intentional move to overstate her importance.

And as I've said in another response (GOD I've only talked about Borhap today, please guys send me something else), they should have focused on one thing and made it good, whilst being respectful to Freddie's sexuality, which imo they werent.

Also, I get that the band had fights, and Freddie did have a habit of acting like a diva, but idk, they kinda overshot (I hope that's a word lol) it with him being the only person causing the fights, whilst the others were innocent. As in, they all had strong personalities, and it'd have been interesting to explore that.

Yeah, a TV series would've been the best option, haha, to accomodate us all.

I speak with a stutter (it’s not as bad as it used to be when I was little but I still have it and I’m still kind of insecure about it)

Refer back to my weighing over 200 pounds: I don’t even look it, and it’s kind of a trip to see women weigh less than me who are freaking huge. I’m as big as I am because the other alternative was literally starving to death: I almost became an anorexic when I was 13, and it came to a head when I was 19 and wouldn’t stop losing weight from depression. So as part of my recovery, I reconciled my relationship with food, and I just started eating. I’m trying to get up to 230 and tbh, I wouldn’t mind climbing up to 240.

It’s funny because I feel like such a rebel liking Joey as much as I do. The latest thing is to like fat boys and “dad bods”, and even taking it further and getting like almost morbid about it--when I was writing Have Your Cake I often lurked in the feedism tags on here to grasp the idea of the community; when I visit them now, the latest thing is to be like “this lifestyle is totally gonna kill you but you’re sooo hot so keep it up!”. This almost feels akin to when Audrey Hepburn came on the beauty scene with her thin elegance, the reaction to all of the full figured woman: he’s a slim, lush, gorgeous man who needs a lot more love (”raw beauty if I ever did see it” as Mr. Lang put it).

I’ve always wanted to get inked but I never know what to ink myself with, or where to put it for that matter.

The one time I ever cut my hair, like had it cut short, was 20 years ago in the first grade. The longest it’s ever been was down to the halfway point of my thigh when I was... 15? Right now it’s down around my butt.

Recovering cutter: I started in 2006 after my grandpa passed and then I stopped; did it again after my parents split in 2011, and again after Chris passed; I’ve been clean since August 22, 2017, three months following his death.

Chris was a fan of my art. It’s true! My little cartoons never would’ve become the entities they are now without him.

My cartoons have been labelled everything from “grunge” to “metal” to (recently) “emo”. I’m actually fine with just any label you throw at them: just don’t call them anime because that’s not technically correct (anime is animation; manga is printed works, and even that’s bit of a stretch)--my writing meanwhile has been simply labelled “unusual”

I’ve always been a fic writer, but I never actually wrote-wrote a fanfic until I was a freshman in high school. I never went online with a fic until 2013 and then I pretty much stopped it for a few years to focus on school and preserving my mental health until earlier this year with Have Your Cake and Eat It.

Fuuuuuuuck I love food. Yeah, when I say you’re better off asking me what I don’t like I mean it. I will eat just about anything (i’m actually surprised I’m not fat tbh). I’m as much a lady of the flesh as I am a lady of intellect.

Hiiii sweetheart! Sorry for replying just now, I saw your message straight before heading to bed, and I really appreciated it & it made my heart warm - thank you so much! ^^ The exam is already behind me, I can safely say it went very well, but there still two more to go in the next two weeks so hopefully I stay motivated. :3

My favourite period dramas (or just period films/shows) which I would totally recommend are: Barry Lyndon (but beware, it’s 3 hours long!), The Favourite, Chernobyl, War&Peace (I like the 2016 miniseries), Cabaret, Trust, The Seventh Seal, Paths of Glory, Pan’s Labirynth, Downfall, Stalingrad (1993), I could probably go on and on! I used to be a huge fan of Poldark, but it’s far from a perfect show even if I still find it highly enjoyable!

Favourite Queen lewk? The 1975 Japan era!

All of them look so SOFT, and I love their ethereal vibes & hairstyles! However, the Ridge Farm era and the 1981 Montreal era have a special place in my heart also!

Music wise, I think my favourite era is the Sheer Heart Attack-A Night at the Opera-A Day at the Races one: these are my top three favourite Queen albums! I love Innuendo, too.

Ahhh, the third question might be the most difficult! It’s impossible to choose because I love all of the three voices, they blend together fantastically and yet each one has its unique quality. Their voices work perfectly in the vocal harmonies, and I think some are better suited for certain songs than the other (like…can you imagine Brian singing I’m In Love With My Car?). In my opinion, Brian’s voice might be the most pleasant per se, and I love the sort of melancholic and sad quality in his voice (and I still think that he should always perform ‘39; I’m not overly fond of it when Freddie sings it tbh). Freddie, on the other hand, had the most spectacular voice with this certain theatricality to it, definitely one of the best singers ever to grace this planet, and his vocal capabilities never fail to impress me! Finally, I think Roger had this fantastic sexy raspy voice and amazing, strong high notes (tbh in my opinion Roger’s falsetto was way nicer to listen to than Freddie’s, especially in the early 70s; sadly, Rog’s voice seemed to get slightly worse as he grew older), and he’s got the range, too! I mean, it probably speaks volumes that my top three favourite Queen songs are sung by Freddie, Brian, and Roger respectively. :D I don’t think it necessarily reflects my personal “voice ranking” (this kinda depends on my mood, you know?), but it probably represents that I love their singing styles all the same!

Thank you for over 3000 followers

I reached 3000 followers a while ago and even though I didn’t do anything for my other milestones, I thought I should make a post about this one (though I couldn’t think of anything special). After all, 3000 is most likely the highest I will get and it really is an amazing number, considering I’m not doing anything special XD Kinda fitting too. In NnT everything started 3000 years ago, and for my blog everything started 3000 followers ago XD I’m not sure how many people from the old days even follow me anymore, but, thank you all. It’s been some amazing years!

As for what I’ll do… Well, my friend @maybeishouldwait helped me with some question prompts, so it’ll sort of be like an interview? I hope at least some of you are interested. So, let’s start!

1. Let's start with an easy one: how did you discover NNT, and what drew you to it?

I’ve recently answered an ask with a similar question but here we go! It was a complete coincidence. I wasn’t necessarily searching for something. I randomly browsed a manga reading site, probably looking foe updates and the title somehow caught my attention so I clicked on it. I didn’t take it seriously at first, the first chapter really didn’t impress me at all, and I only continued because I thought it was funny. It’s no secret I fell in love with the series but it still baffled me how fast it went from “Lol, this is funny and stupid” to “BEIRHJ I LOVE THIS SO MUCH” in a matter of a only few chapters XD Everything was such a new experience to me. The characters weren’t the usual stereotypes, they were actually deep and interesting. The story took a while to become interesting, at first it was more about just… gathering these super powerful knights and it was so cool to see what kind of crazy character the next one would be. I also loved how I could never see anything coming. Even now that we know what kind of series this is, there are still plottwists like Hawk’s eyes being the portal to purgatory or Cath’s whole appearance that just… could not be predicted and I really love that surprise effect when something unbelievable happens. So I love the characters and the surprises but I also love the story, or rather how it’s told. For the first… 70 or so chapters to me it felt like with every chapter it just got even BETTER than before. I still had a few of those moments in the Commandment saga, just, scenes that blew me away and made me think “Wow, I wonder how much better this series can get”. I think it also was around chapter 70 that I created my blog. And more than anything I think I love the tragedies. It’s hearbreaking but heartwarming at the same time somehow. Not many of you probably know this but my first NnT OTP was actually Banlaine and I cried so much when I read their backstory. I loved how deeply in love they were to the point of sacrificing themselves for the other. Both had to deal with a large chunk of loneliness in their lives and for both of them the other was their salvation. Every time Ban was saying anything about Elaine in the main series I was both crying and cheering for him. By now everything is a tragedy and while I wish there were a few more lighthearted scenes for… personal salvation… I like that and crying about all those characters and CARING for their happiness really helped me get into this series I think.

2. How has your blog changed since it started?

Well, apart from the fact that is has grown popular… I actually think I’ve burned out a but. I write a lot less text posts than before. I had an awful amount of (stupid) theories back in the old days and also an awful amount of free time somehow. Now I feel like I don’t think about theories that often anymore, let alone post them. Part of that is that I’m busy with work and other hobbies, but partly that’s because the series has gotten so long and it’s becoming harder and harder to remember details, especially from the newer chapters. I really want to reread the series but I never get around to do that anymore. I also think that back in the days I more or less posted just anything I found or thought was cool, while nowadays I’m always wondering what I could do. I still try to keep it up but it’s becoming harder and harder. Oh, there’s also a lot more follower interaction too!

3. What are some of your favorite blogs or sites for NNT stuff?

As for sites, I usually only check the official ones, like the official HP or the official Twitter account. As for blogs… I don’t really follow a lot of people since I look through the tag almost on a daily basis anyway. Of course there’s @spoilerkingjuliane, she’s a must follow XD I can also highly recommend @maybeishouldwait since she’s an awesome writer. I always enjoy @nostalgicbookworms gifs a lot and @sdsmangacaps is my go-to account for manga caps. There are a lot more blogs that I really like, there are tons of really good artists on Tumblr and Twitter but since I’m not actually following a lot of them and I fear I’ll forget a few I’d rather not mention them directly and hope they know I appreciate them. The most obvious Twitter account is yuka_sai0127 btw, but there are a lot of others.

4. What advice would you give to someone wanting to make their blog as successful as yours?

Tbh I have no idea how I even got so popular in the first place XD I started on a whim and thought I’d lose motivation immediately and nobody would follow me anyway. But before I knew it I had almost 100 followers in a matter of a few days. Maybe it was my obsession? I also quickly befriended the other popular NnT blogs, that probably helped too. I think it depends on what kind of blog you have, but I think the most important thing is frequent updates and high quality. I also think blogs should have a good balance between your own content and reblogs. There are blogs that live only through reblogs and that’s fine but I think it’s harder to be “interesting” when you don’t have your own content. Try to find something only you can do and do it. @spoilerkingjuliane for example is good at finding info and she is immensely popular because of that. I will forever be slightly jealous of her because I will never reach that level XD”

5. What's the best part of running your blog? What's something you wish was different?

The best part without a doubt is how much it involves me into the fandom. I’m more or less forced to see all kinds of fandom posts and while that’s sometimes stressing me out, I also see a lot of amazing content and being able to share those posts with so many people makes me really happy. Running this blog also helped me boost my own confidence. As I mentioned earlier at the beginning I thought nobody would be interested in my blog anyway and I’d give up right away. But I gained followers quickly and it showed me that yes, I might not be as boring as always I think I am. It showed me that I can do things if I just try. On the downside though, running a popular blog puts a lot of pressure on you, and I constantly feel like I have to do something, have to go through the tag, have to make SOME content somehow. And even when you’re stressed you can’t just take it out on people after all so the stress piles up. That’s probably my own responsibility and not the blog itself that is doing that, but I still wish I could take it more easy.

6. How did you learn Japanese? Did you find it difficult?

Well, it wasn’t easy at least. I started learning Japanese twice, once I gave up quickly because the book I used was a horrible starter and after that I learned the basic grammar and a few words through a magazine crash course. Learning specific words was easier than to learn all hiragana and katakana on their own and since I also knew the basic grammar it made it easier to learn and understand whole sentences. Still, I’m an extremely lazy human being and even though I’ve been learning Japanese for almost half of my life now I very rarely actively studied. Most of the time I would try (and fail) to read manga in Japanese and pick up new words and grammar here and there. But through switching between actually learning and trying to read manga I got better. Once I was at a certain level I bothered a ton of random japanese people too in order to befriend and speak japanese with them, which also helped. I think the most major step in my learning career was getting obsessed with Tales of Vesperia a few years ago tho. I was at a comparatively high Japanese level back then already but playing a game of THAT length completely in japanese was a challenge. I learned a stupid amount of new words and grammar and ways of talking through that game and it probably helped that it was just an amazing game that remains to be my favorite. I’ve also translated a few manga chapters back then that really got me practicing and I also worked at an Udon restaurant with (except for me) 100% japanese staff. And as is the case with all languages… Talking with real people is always the best practice. Then of course my year working in japan gave me the final boost. I still have a ton to learn and I’m nowhere near really GOOD but I like to think my japanese is pretty decent at least.

7. What do you see for the future of your blog?

It won’t be all too long anymore til the manga ends and when that happens there won’t be any theories or reviews to write anymore… There will still be an S3 and possible an S4 and maybe more anime projects. But it will be harder to update the blog with original content. Eventually it will most likely turn into a reblog only blog. But I hope I will have some more time and motivation to actually reread the manga, complete my NnT encyclopedia and update the blog with interesting stuff I find in between. I really want to keep this blog up for a few more years!

No matter how it will turn out though, I’m happy I came so far. I made a whole bunch of good friends during this time and had a lot of fun. To my friends and followers (silent or not): Thank you so much for your support!

Fanfest Reactions and speculations

My personal thoughts on fanfest and what was revealed/not revealed and some speculation on what i think is going to happen in 5.0. Under a cut because I have thoughts and they might turn out to be spoilers so, you have been warned.

First of all... Viera and Hrothgar since those are the big talking points of the keynote. I’m personally not UPSET, OR ANGRY about the decisions to do two single gender races currently. Female Viera are iconic, and the community wanted more beast like races so in true XIV form they hearkened back to another game and gave us Ronso (whoops, Hrothgar).

I do think it was an odd decision though, to focus on two races at once where resources could have been devoted to giving us a fully realised race. But i also acknowledge there were probably things going on behind the scenes that we’ll just never know; maybe they weren't allowed to have male Viera show up for the first time in XIV, maybe it’s so they have hyped up content later down the line. IDK. The “LORE” scapegoat is lazy and they wanted a way to justify it that wasn’t “we just can’t with the tech”, but honestly I would rather they be honest from the outset that there are limitations and what that means for development. But I am glad that we’re getting SOMETHING and I have a fantasia saved to turn my main into a female Viera. I am a little disappointed that helmets can’t be used on them at launch, but I assume they will update this as development continues and it might ship with a patch. I just want my Bonewicca casting helmet tbh, and the Astro AF2 headgear. not much fussed about anything else since it mostly gets covered by hair anyways. Hrothgar, again I just don’t care enough? I, personally, like that willowy supermodel aesthetic that the Viera got goin’ on. Never played a beastly race in any other MMO so I’m not going to start now. It feel like they’re trying to listen to the community and what they want but it maybe didn’t fit their ideas and so we’re left with a kind of hamfisted attempt at a bestial race. Again, if they just said no it and were honest about it then fair play to them.

Now the really exciting things....

DANCER! I didn’t want another healer, and I still don’t see a niche for one so a ranged physical DPS is great. I love their look and the chakrams are so cool (bladed fans tho too pls? They can be thrown...I guess?). I never played XI but looking at designs, I’m so glad they moved away from that Spanish inspired look to a more Arabian (?) themed one (I’m thinking along the lines of belly dancers and what they wear). I hope women get some pants though, and if not that Thavnairian sets exist. I’m curious as to how they’re going to be unique compared to BRD and MCH since bard is already a great support with their songs. I haven’t really played much of MCH so I can’t comment. Also curious as to whether or not they’ll share BRD/MCH gear since that might influence future designs of gear. But I still have some older level 60-70 BRD gear so that’s totally fine by me. I’ll probably be a but behind MSQ and level DNC first so I can go through the MSQ with it.

MSQ! I couldn’t have predicted this if I’d have tried, I figured we would progress along the war storyline and it would be pretty predictable up until that finished. But HECK! We’re going to Novrandt and it looks super cool. I have a lot of questions about the place, and whether or not we’ll see RP characters from Novrandt popping up or maybe travel is only for the WoL. I’m glad what Arbert (I think) talked about during the 3.X series is being revisited in a major way and that their sacrifice wont be in vain. Super glad we’re going back to a bigger picture Hydaelyn Vs Zodiark plot. I’m debating character progression internally right now and that’s about that....? Minfillia being back isn't heartwarming, and her eyes are that pupilless texture that means she’s still Hydaelyn’s emissary or whatever she was. She’s fulfilling her promise to help the Warriors of Darkness I hope, and I hope that means that Hydaelyn does want BALANCE and not solely light. I think thought with us becoming WoD that it means we’re going to be put into contact with Zodiark, and it’ll be interesting seeing how the two deities compare. Y’shtola being called master Matoya is weird too, and I have a couple of theories on it. One, Y’shtola took the name to honour her late mentor since Matoya apparently never had children. Two, Y’shtola and Matoya somehow became one (Tola absorbed her power/essence/aether) and there’s a dual personality going on there. Which might also explain how she’s a THM/BLM now. One is more likely, but we’ll see.

FFXV Crossover Event Ehhh....I’m just disappointed honestly. I wanted Luna and Aranea’s hairstyles, maybe even Aranea’s costume as a glamour, weapon glamours etc. They just gave us the Regalia and a Costume/Hairstyle. It’s MEH. I know they’re on a time crunch now, so probably not the best time to be planning an event also but they might have waited for the anniversary of the game and then gave us the event with some more things? I can still hope for cash shop items but it’s a vain hope.

LIVE LETTER Dad of Light is pure and wholesome and I wont fault SE for shilling it hard to the Japanese audience, in Japan. The rest of the Live Letter was lacklustre and honestly I think it served as more justification to the gender locked races. They couldn’t really tell us more about the patch in a few days since everything they would tell us would just be pointless and in patch notes. They can’t reveal too much about the expac beacause of Mays Live Letter... It was just meh. But that’s okay.

OVERALL THOUGHTS I got what I wanted from this Fan Fest, but I know a lot of people didn’t for various reasons. Be kind to each other, and be kind to SE who are still giving us a great game at the end of the day. If it bothers you that much, then stop giving them your money. It’s really that simple.
