Standing surgery to remove an ulcerated wart from a show heifer.
To do the surgery, we restrained her in a headgate with the farmer holding her head as still as possible with the nose tongs, and I did a local block with lidocaine and gave her a shot of banamine for pain/inflammation. I also covered her eye on the surgery side and pet her to help keep her calm (she was used to being handled and enjoyed petting; for some cattle that would make them even more scared). Then Doc prepped the area as best one can in the field and used an elliptical incision to remove the small mass. She closed with PDS, an absorbable suture, so they won't have to be removed later. She did great!
Cattle warts are a common, usually benign problem that is self-limiting, though recovery can take up to a year. They are caused by several bovine papilloma viruses, which are not transmissible to other species. Surgery is usually reserved for ulcerated warts, as in our girl here, or large warts in unfortunate areas, such as the genitals or udder, that prevent movement or breeding. There is a vaccine available, but it has to be given young, before exposure to infected animals or equipment has occured.

Watching a farrier hoof trimming video, and everyone in the comments is like “omg is it hurting the poor horse?” And I am laughing at how clearly no one knows fuck-all about horses. Because, aside from the fact that a hoof is basically a big ol fingernail, if you are hurting a horse, that horse is damn sure going to let you know.

Y'know like 8 months ago I got to listen to a well respected stockman talk about working with livestock. Especially cattle but also sheep and working dogs
And he said something I am now always thinking about which is that when the cow herd does something 'wrong' it's because you told them to.
You're the one giving the signals. Youre the one with the plan. If the herd isn't listening it's because you aren't communicating correctly. And how our relationship to livestock has to be one of trust and respect.
The have to respect you enough to give ground when you ask them too and they have to trust you enough not to run away. You have to be reliable and use the necessary pressure... No more no less. And you have to let them breath when they do what you ask.
I just think about that a lot. Our tendancy to blame misunderstandings on the other person on the animal, on whatever. Without realizing what kind of signals we are giving... How every relationship whether it's with your friends and family or the livestock you're working is all a balance of trust and respect.
I don't have a point exactly I just think about stockmanship and how everything is connected to everything else a lot.

Challenge #03483-I195: Don't Touch or Else
A very arrogant soldier in town shoves past Wraithvine and friends to scream at a person who was carefully packing some exotic pets into their carry cages to take them to the next town. Wraithvine warns the guard "Do NOT touch the animals!" The guard ends up with Wraithvine trying to save what's left of a badly poisoned hand. -- Anon Guest
It happened so fast. From, "Oi! Do you have a license to be doing that?" through, "Don't touch those!" to, "Don't tell me what to do, I am an officer of the LAW." And then the officer who apparently knew everything clamped his hand around a bright yellow microdragon with brilliantly blue spots on its hide.
Microdragons have a stinger at the end of their tails, and the blue-spotted microdragon's venom is the most potent of them all.
Wraithvine had to act fast. The blue-spotted microdragon, now free to go where it whist, flew directly for its handler and hissed at the officer. The officer who was still falling over. With millennia of experience at hand, Wraithvine's components pouch was more of a components backpack. Ze had it off and was searching for the right parts of the right spell before the officer had time to bounce. The stung hand was already starting to dissolve.

How to Safely Respond to a Turtle Bite
Encountering wildlife can be a thrilling experience, but it’s essential to know how to react, especially if things take an unexpected turn. One such scenario is when a turtle, known for its slow pace and docile nature, clamps onto your hand. 1. Stay Calm and Composed Panicking can make the situation worse. Remember, the turtle isn’t biting out of malice. Avoid any sudden movements, and most…

Damian has been partnered up with Daniel in their Home Ec final.
And Daniel...is putting no effort at all into cooking.
Damian keeps trying to convince him to help, but Daniel keeps wriggling his way out of the responsibility.
Damian ends up having to handle the Turkey! Unacceptable! He does not condone the death of animals for food unless it is for survival! This part must be handled by Daniel.
He shoves the turkey in Daniels' hands.
There's a soft green glow.
He hears Daniel whisper a horrified "oh shit no".
And the very dead turkey that they were supposed to be cooking comes to life.
It is very, very angry.
