The thing about handwringing about “larpers” in movements is that if it was fantasy and wet dreams and play pretend, then what are liberals opposing?

Either no one is actually doing violent direct action cause it’s all online posturing, in which case there is nothing to be afraid of cause keyboard warriors are too chicken shit to leave their homes…

Or there is something that is happening that scares the shit out of liberals.

Which is where “false flag” shit comes in. Diversity of tactics incorporates the idea that not everyone CAN do the same action. Not everyone CAN risk arrest or facing the cops or getting into violent confrontation with nazis or CAN execute a plan to destroy a vital piece of infrastructure

So why do you spend all your time and energy trying to sabotage and derail and discredit those who do? Who can? Who will?

“I don’t like violence.” Superb, show up as the peaceful alternative for politicians to parlay with so they don’t get hit with the violence of those who advocate for much more serious consequences for their constant treachery!

You have no leg to stand on without a threat behind you, you do a disservice to even yourself by spending all your time combatting it.

Here's a grim inevitable prediction for this capitalist hellscape we live in:

Publishers will, inevitably, as per the law of capitalism, do away with physical books entirely.

The only books that will exist will be ebooks -- and you can't buy them, either. You don't own books, don't be silly, that's such a ridiculous idea! No, you have to pay a subscription to see the books, and pay for every minute or even word you read.

And books can be revoked at any time, and you may never see them again, with no warning or explanation.

You think if I wrote this as a dystopian novel people would figure out why shitting on the Internet Archive is bad? Like what do these people think is going to happen next? If the Internet Archive isn't allowed to lend out books they own, what do you think is going to happen next? You think these capitalist overlords of ours won't keep pushing? Make it illegal for you to let friends borrow books from you?

Capitalism is by definition always destinted to get worse. It literally cannot get better. It will always become more extreme. First they want to destroy the Internet Archive. Next they'll make it illegal for you to lend a book to a friend. Then they'll try to get rid of physical books entirely. They'll make it so the only way to read is to pay a never ending subscription for ebooks that you cannot buy.

This is the inevitable course of capitalism in regards to books and your right to actually own the property you've paid for.

They already want to make it illegal to share your Netflix password with your parents.

You think they won't make it illegal to share books with your friends?

The assault on the Internet Archive's lending library isn't about "protecting authors". It's about attacking your ownership over the things you have bought and paid for.

It's about turning books into the next subscription-only service, which you do not own, cannot buy, and have no right to keep.

And taking down the Internet Archive's lending library is literally just the first fucking step on this ladder to the dystopia I've described.

Capitalism is never-ending, never-moral, always starving for more profit over any other consideration.

If you let them argue that the Internet Archive doesn't actually own the books they've paid for, you open the way for them to claim that no one owns anything they've paid for.

Hey uh. I'm as pro-palestine and against far-right zionism as anyone else, but a lot of you are being extremely antisemitic and spreading known nazi dogwhistles and beliefs.

Jewish people do NOT control the media. They do NOT control money or where it goes. They do NOT control the world. This is basic antisemitism 101. These are common conspiracy theories antisemites spread about Jewish people, and I'm seeing a lot of typically progressive people/groups spreading them as well.

Israel is an apartheid state. They are committing a genocide. DO NOT STOP SPEAKING UP ABOUT IT. But make sure you are not spreading misinformation or harmful propaganda in the meantime.

PLEASE remember that a people are not their government. The actions of one's government often do not align with those it is meant to represent (I know you understand this, USAmerican leftists; we are constantly criticizing our own government, even within our own party, and many Jewish people are doing the same. This is true of ANY government as well).

Do not throw Jewish people under the bus when speaking up about the horrors committed by the state of Israel. We can combat the rise of right-wing zionism and white supremacy perpetuated by the state without resorting to antisemitism and xenophobia. If you can understand that the citizens of Palestine are not responsible for the actions of extremists, you should be able to understand that Jewish citizens are likewise not responsible for the actions of extremists, either.

The situation is complicated, so for those who don't want to read even my bare-bones surface-scratching of it, here's a TLDR: Genocide is wrong, and we should combat it however we can. Antisemitism is ALSO bad, and we should hold people accountable when they spread nazi rhetoric. Being against genocide should NOT become synonymous with being antisemitic or otherwise bigoted. You should care about supporting Palestinians, NOT hating Jewish people.
