theres only two types of girls that study english translation: the weird girls with coloured hair (i.e. myself) OR the fake blondes who looooove ta/ylor sw/ift, think har/ry st/yles is a fashion icon and are probably on the wrong but more popular side of booktok (where they like things like aco/tar and coll/een ho/over or whatever idk). and then you have the boys.

You sat in a chair at a small table against the window of the little tea shop in town. Your books scattered around the table, but with no actual work getting done though however. You’re attention was on the man behind the counter with his back facing towards you making a tea for a fellow customer.

This isnt isnt the first time you’ve been at the tea shop. You started coming just to study and enjoy a tea or two. Now you stay for a completely different reason, or well person. You couldn't help put stare at his defined back, his sleeves rolled to his forarms and hands moving with skill.

Unknown to you, Levi could feel your stare, and has been feeling them for months. He could feel you staring at him right now, he tries ignoring it but in the end he always turns around and makes brief eye contact with you. You quickly looked away, breaking the eye contact and pretend to work on whatever was in front of you.

You keep working, sort of, while stealing quick glances to the man. This goes on until it starts to get dark outside and you can tell the owner is starting to clean up the shop. He slowly finishes wiping down a table next to yours and you try not to stare by pretending to work. He slowly makes it to your table now and clears his throat looking at you.

You peek up through your eyelashes before he starts saying something.

“Miss, the shop is about to close.” He says softly, looking into your eyes.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll clean up and get out of your way.” You replied back to him, starting to pack up your stuff into the your satchel. He nods at you as a thanks, but not before setting something on the table. Confused, you pick it up.

‘come to the shop on Sunday, 6 o’clock’

You think for a second, wondering why you might have gotten this. Then your brain clicks, the shop is closed on Sundays. Heat starts to rise to your face as you look over to the man again, he’s back behind the counter, back to you cleaning tea cups. You grabbed your satchel and walk over to the counter, this time your the one to clear your throat.

“Um, can I ask you your name sir?” You ask him politely. He turns around, cup and rag in hand.

“It’s Levi.” He responds, while still cleaning the cup. You nod your head at his response, shifting on your feet nervously.

“Can I ask why you left this note Levi.” You prompt him, saying his name with a soft tone. This time he sets the tea cup down and leaning on the counter slightly.

“Well I was hoping I could see the pretty girl thats always in my shop, but on her own.” He replied with a bit of red on his cheek as well. You hum at his answer, thinking about what you’re going to respond with. After a moment of silence Levi opens his mouth,

“If you’re not comfortable-“

“Ok, Mr. Levi.” You interrupt him before he can get his full sentence out. He stares at you for a second and nods his head.

“Ok then, I’ll see you sunday then?” He clarifies.

“I’ll see you on Sunday Mr.Levi.” You smile at him, a small blush on your face. You turn around and start to walk out the door, the little bell atop it chiming when it’s opened. You turn your head over your shoulder one last time and wave at him. Levi gives a small smile back, hands returning to clean tea cups. Walking out with a blush and a smile on your face you have one little thing on your mind now, nothing related to school work.

You have a date this Sunday.

note: this is my first time *ever* writing fanfiction, and im not a native english speaker so this isn't gonna be really good

anyways here ya go

its a day as any at greendale community college. the study group is frantically cramming for the biology final which is at 4:00.

"mitochondria is the power house of the cell," jeff repeats again and again to really get it in his head.

"hey guys" abed says as he enters the room.

he's holding a large notepad and a bunch of papers, fumbling around not to drop them. this gets the attention of annie.

"why are you holding so many papers abed? oh no... did i miss a memo for an assignment?" annie says worrily.

"no no, its not for that. its a little project im doing."

"what is it?" asks britta.

"GUYS!" jeff exclaims. "please, for once, lets not get derailed. we only have a few hours to study the whole syllabus."

everyone ignores him.

"its a list of ships i think the audience would enjoy." abed says while plopping down the huge notepad and the pile papers on the desk. he takes a seat.

"ships? like the titanic?" troy interrogates abed.

"no, ships as in relation-ships" abed says in a gentle tone.

"abed, how many times do we have to remind you, we are NOT IN A SHOW!! and guys COME ON! we dont have time!!" jeff exclaims.

everyone ignores him again.

"abed.. thats not very healthy! we are real life people with real feelings. see i know that because im a psycholgy student and-" britta says until everyone groans.

jeff trys really hard to study atleast something.

"well now that we're talking about it, tell us some of the ships!" shirley says. everyone except jeff agrees.

"alright number one, TROBED!" exclaims abed enthusiastically.

troy and abed do their signature handshake while saying "what what!!"

"number two ABEDISON!" abed exclaims merrily.

annie smiles and twirls her hair. she and abed then do a little high five.

"number three JEFFANNIE!" abed says.

the whole group disagrees including jeff and annie. "no.." "nah..." "not good.."

"maybe lets strike that one.." jeff says in an uncomfortable tone.

"alright then." abed strikes it off.

"number four JABED!" abed exclaims cheerfully.

jeff disagrees but secretly he feels a little happy.

"number five.. TROBEDISON!" abed exclaims joyfully.

troy, abed, and annie all high five eachother merrily.

"number six JEFFBRITTA!"

"pffff... what..." "pshhh nooo thats impossible.." both britta and jeff mutter when they glance at eachother and look away.

"number seven JEFFSHIRLEY!"

"psshh whatt" "thats not possible!!" shirley and jeff mutter as they remember the times they both shared gossip and that one time when they played foosball..... they glance at eachother and look away.

"number eight BRITTANNIE!"

britta and annie stare at eachother longingly. they gasp in suprise.

"abed.. do you want these 'ships' to happen? and is this your way of confessing to troy, annie or jeff?" britta enquires abed pretending to be a therapist.

jeff, annie and troy all take a defensive stance and stare daggers at eachother. jeff, confused with himself, shakes his head as if it would get rid of his feelings.

"well. i dont know. maybe. maybe not. its just a little observation britta. how, if we were in a show, how the audience may behave. perhaps all these ships happen in different timelines. just a thought. you've britta'd my project." abed replies, a little disappointed.

"hey how come im not in any of these! do i not have a chance with any of you guys?" pierce says bitterly.

everyone groans, disgusted.

the group is a little silent for a moment.

"well..... shall we get started on studying?" jeff says.

the group agrees.

after 2 minutes of studying they got distracted, again.

Vil lives in the green part of Sumeru. Specificaly in the city of Sumeru or near the the borders of Sumeru and Fontaine

His Mom is from Sumeru and his dad is from Fontaine so his a mix of both

He is an expert at using weapons but he prefers being a catalyst

dissecting episode 1

(under the microscope. im mostly dissecting jaewon hes so interesting to study as a queer person myself, smiles)

ignoring the very first clip which shows waves and someone grabbing someone else... a bit confusing i dont have many thoughts about this.

ANYWAY ! we first see jaewon sitting on a couch in a office perhaps? with an aquarium (we see this again on the intro of episode 2 and if you see the trailer theres a close up of his face on the same place as well) and a women sits down in front of him and asks him what his worries are. now i cant make much sense of her behaviour cause she suddenly starts laughing? but id think shes some sort of counselor. now this could be for 2 reasons: one. he just left the military after finishing his mandatory time and it might be a thing they do? or two some other reason we dont know most likely. TRAUMA shocking i know.

then we have the restaurant scene. we see jaewon talking with his friends but his face changes when his friends keeps talking about how jaewon has a great life and connections and money and everything he wants and i dont want to state the obvious but... thats clearly not the case which is why we can see jaewon upset with the conversation even though he doesnt say anything about it and even forgives his friend... his relationship with his parents is most likely not the best and we can see that by the messages his mom sends and the way we can just see him in front of his gate but not getting inside.

then. their first real scene. jaewon asks jihyun for a cigarette he goes and grabs TWO which surprises jaewon a little bit and makes him happier probably because thats different not a lot of people would do that. they talk but its very casual like and somehow jaewon mentions a "동생" and gets real quiet, as if something had happened with that person. now, its translated as "younger brother/sister" because thats the only english word that it can translate to EVEN THOUGH (and im saying this as someone with very limited korean language knowledge) its not the most correct one because its just a word that people use to call someone whos younger than them (yes siblings count lol). so is he talking about a younger sibling or someone else? who knows.

when his friends grab him to go home he leaves but he isnt expecting for jihyun to just grab his hand and give him a lighter (it was such an intimate scene as well, very queer coded) and THATS what caught jaewons attention. because at first he was just making conversation, but that small moment changed how the path of their futures (hope im not getting too philosophical), and he even stopped and looked as jihyun left.

fast foward next day, jihyun sees jaewon and goes afterhim but loses him and finds the poster for free bird instead (soulmatism i say). and its at this point i realize i havent spoken much abour jihyun so ill start now. we know hes a small town boy, isnt used to such a big city like seoul and is even confused with all this new stuff hes seeing. thats how jaewon and him are different. to me, jihyuns fear is based on unfamiliarity and the unknown, hes still getting to know all these new things that hes never known before and thats why he later mentions that thats the reason he signed up for the surf club. he doesnt really know how to swim but he wants to try and face this new challenge onwards. jaewons fear is more rooted on past experiences and trauma is my guess. he knows who he is but hes scared or hes scared of the result if he tries something. i think its going to start to get better the more he gets to know jihyun and the more he gets comfortable with him.

the cafeteria. jihyuns eating alone and jaewon is suddenly there and thanking him for the other day (he means it. that second cigarette probably was everything to him at that time) and starts to get a bit bold with him, and asking him why he didnt call and at this point there are so many jihyun reactions where you can just tell how this type of relationship is new to him but also how he wants to explore it and find out where it takes him.

we can see that when he meets jaewon again outside the restaurant and says "if we're going to be friends we need to know each others names" and jaewons truly gets a bit paralysed? confused? about it, he wasnt expecting jihyung to say something like that. tells him his name and leaves.

going a bit back, jaewon is at the same restaurant again. why? because he remembered that it was the restaurant jihyuns worked at and he convinced his friends to go inside with some excuse only to look for jihyun but... he wasnt there. things start to go downhill when his friends mention his ex who he wants to have nothing to do with and just wants to forget and one of them even invites her over! some friend he is... jaewon gets reasonably upset (ill talk about what i think happened with the break up on the ep2 essay bare with me), leaves and jihyun goes after him. in this scene i dont think jaewon is upset with him but it was a mixture of a lot of things, disappointment from not seeing jihyun when he was the reason he went to the restaurant in the first place, anger at his supposed friend inviting his ex who he doesnt like and thats why he says "i didnt see you earlier" with this really empty sort of expression.

and lastly, the very last scene. he sits with jihyun for two reasons: be away from his ex but also because he genuinely wants to continue whatever this relationship with jihyun is. it makes him happy and its different and GOOD something that he doesnt have a lot going around his life...

yea... thats it. my thoughts are all scattered but yea lets talk about it if u want i have so much to say still and i want to hear what everyone else is thinking and i also want to mention how much i love this already it was hook line sinker the first episode it. it just feels so raw and perfect and so queer coded to which is why i want to kind of gatekeep it from people who are just watching bc its u know... a bl (will i be persecuted like the witches used to by saying this... hm)

saw ppl call kavehs animation ugly and boring on one side, the others finding them great on the other so here i go explain why i like them and find them fitting for his character bc i like kaveh a normal amount ✌

its prob the same thing with zhongli enjoyers legit getting mad hes shown as a "friendly gentle grandpa" in the game bc it doesnt fit their hcs (trust me, i saw ppl on twt being all upset bc hes the opposite of their violent egoist zhongli hc) i feel like some people really hold onto their hcs and beliefs of a character they think of them as true and canon and get super annoyed or mad when it gets disproven (which i dont understand really)

anyway, most ppl hate kavehs animations bc they were hoping to see him wield the claymore and show hes stronger and buffer than al haitham. ppl ofc are free to think of kaveh however they want; if they want him more muscled or tall or lifting the claymore then thats all fine, i literally dont care. i just wanna ramble about how i think his animation is actually not as boring and ugly as they call it, but pretty fitting for his character :]

first of all that "silly briefcase" he holds onto is actually a lil robot friend called mehrak and it does the attacks for him. kaveh controls mehrak and how and where the attack strikes. it keeps him free and nimble and i already yelled about how beautiful his animation look bc!!! they are

his movement is very clean and measured, not a single step out of it. at the same time its very artsy, the little jump he does, how he keeps a certain rhythm and how he goes with his knees (i cant find the proper english words to describe what i wanna say in my language) - its all very similar to a dance. hes so light and graceful on his feet

kaveh is an architect; he was a ksharewar student, the school of technology and theory, and he appreciates and pursuits aesthetics and arts. he is both creative and logical; its why he can keep up with al haitham (who was at haravatat btw, meaning he studied linguistics/semiotics. they really are opposites yet matching in any sense huh)

after all architecture is pretty much mathemical form of art and you can see that so clearly in the swings the claymore does: it looks like a ruler or divider for geometrical/technical drawing (architect kaveh) and its especially gorgeous after his burst, showing pretty flowery patterns (kaveh pursuing aesthetics)

so seeing his animations as a mix of measured steps and dancelike movement and all the shapes of his swings, i think it fits him as this creative, logical person perfectly. sm thought put into it

anw, this is what i thought when i saw his animations, so im a bit confused some ppl seem to hate it just bc hes not whacking people with a claymore violently and show muscle. i think this fits him perfectly (altho it would have been so funny if he would have wielded the claymore with his slender body type akjcbjk)

btw im not judging or talking bad about anyone tho, no matter if they like kavehs animations or not. just wanted to show theres thought put into it to make it match kaveh as the person he is :]

you texted your boyfriend telling him all about it. he was the best boyfriend ever.

"Hello! my name is Hwang I-jun. i am 14 years old and hope to be able to work with you in the future." she introduced herself to the judges and began to sand a song in english, korean and danced. her vocals were good, they were stable but her dancing was something she could work on. she wasn't bad, but her vocals were very shaky when dancing.

"hello, I am park y/n. i am 14 years old and i hope to become and idol just like my older brother." your vocals were like honey and your rap was so good. you had precision in your dance and nothing was wrong.

the other people lined up did their auditions and the judges went to the waiting room. they announced who passed the first audition.

Unrelated to that though how is your literature class going ^_^ I think I will minor in literature at college. I'm really interested in the topic and I'm trying to read more because my attention span got screwed over by the internet but I think that happened to a lot of people. What books do you recommend and do you have any advice for trying to study literature at a more advanced level without having gone to college yet?

HIII part 2! im currently working on a large essay on surrealist novels for a final grade in avant-garde class, as well as catching up with dramaturgy because I missed a lot of those classes due to being sick last semester ^_^! im really enjoying doing some solo research and reading because my professors sent me a LOT of materials and it's so fun because it helps me understand my interests better, too! I'm really happy you're interested in studying literature - i feel that you and your thoughts would fit perfectly into my classroom, and i do hope you'll find a lot of joy and worth in your future classroom! That definitely happened to me too ... throughout highschool, i didnt read as much as i was supposed to and i got very rusty. still getting back into it, it's a long process but it's very rewarding!

I have some literary theory texts from my freshman year narratology class that I feel are really helpful for beginning to study literature seriously, but I sadly have pdfs only in croatian and serbian and i'm not sure how easy they are to find online in english, but i'll mention them anyway: Viktor Shklovsky's Art as Technique , A. J. Greimas' Reflections on Actantial Models, Gerard Genette's Order, Duration and Frequency, Schlomith Rimmon-Kenan's Narration: Levels and Voices, Gerard Genette's Types of Focalization and Dorrit Cohn's Narrated Monologue. If not, i still sincerely recommend doing some googling on : estrangement and russian formalism, actantial models, narrative levels, focalisation, and types of narration...

To "read like a literature student" aka at a more advanced level, my golden rule is simply to QUESTION EVERYTHING ON THE PAGE! Try to read not for the story, but for noticing the patterns and literary devices beneath the story and figure out why each bit is the way it is! Thats's not to say DON'T ENJOY THE STORY, but I find that trying to trace the story back to its mechanic parts is just as fun!

My brain is a little blank when it comes to book recs rn, but I really recommend Pachinko by Min Jin Lee for one of the most masterful examples of manipulating focalization and omniscient narration (as well as a deeply touching saga about the lives of Korean immigrants) and Babel, or the Necessity of Violence by R. F. Kuang for a truly masterfully woven story about languages and translation and hauntingly good writing. These two books live in my head at the moment!

what does the Japanese in half broken Japanese translate to? (i do not trust google translate entirely )

’愛してる ! ’　translates to 'i love you!'

’心を愛してる！’ translates to 'i love you with my heart!' (because in the previous line i say 'for most of my life i've thought not with my heart but my brain hehehoho) just wanted to say that i have no idea if the second line is a natural thing to say at all !! but it sorta adds to the song anyways if it is unnatural cuz its broken innit

ok now im going to explain why it means this and why google translate is awful at translating japanese, this is totally unnecessary but if ur interested then read on! ’心を愛してる’ is directly translated to 'heart loves' because 愛してる　literally is just the present form of 'to love' this is a little strange when directly translated to english because you'll notice theres no pronouns or subject. that's because these don't really exist in japanese (they do but not in the same way that we use them, if you use 'he' or 'she' in a sentence its often referring to your boyfriend or girlfriend rather than just he/she as we would use it in english -- interestingly, this is also the same with 'you'. if you use 'you' in japanese its often referring directly to your partner; thats why in a lot of translations the word 'you' is translated to 'dear') OK SO HOW DO JAPANESE PEOPLE KNOW WHO THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT. ✨context✨ in the case of half broken japanese, who else would i say 'i love you' to other than my partner? (ok yes in the western world we do say ii love you' to our family members but this doesnt happen in japan so just stay with me !!!!) if we really really need to refer to someone we'd use their name or a descriptive of what they're like and '-san' as a suffix.

sidenote, tangent: i love my arabic studies minor tbh. it started really weird but i love where i ended up because of it.

the english program at my university was like "take two years of a foreign language" and i was like "ok whats the coolest i can take" and chose arabic

absolutely fell in love with the language and culture. im extremely rusty on the language, never really got super good with it (our professor told us it takes 8 ish years to become fluent, i took it for 2 and haven't kept up with it. this makes sense), but when i realized i liked it enough to make it my minor, i started taking a Ton of history classes which turned out to be my SHIT

yeah man idk turns out having a professor originally from that area who's a studied historian and renowned in his field gives a perspective to the conflict and culture that you wouldn't get elsewhere. so anyway my mans [redacted] taught like 4 lecture classes and i took them all and now im full to the brim on history knowledge about the arab world, iran, with a little sprinkling in of nationalism in that area that was its own class.

...this makes it very satisfying when family members try to talk to me about the arab world and current geopolitics happening over there.

someone: how could you think that??? what about [blatantly factually incorrect and misinformed opinion]??? me: oh see that's a common misconception, the historical causes that led to that misconception are rooted in- (ten minute tangent that makes them regret coming at me over this)

you cannot come to me misinformed and racist about a topic i know more about. its not going to end well.

like. im gonna be so honest with you all for a second. if you want to meaningfully contribute and understand discussion about the arab world? there's a lot of things that led to this point. i could recommend a thousand starting points, and i think it's hard to identify a Most Important one. but if i had to: world war one and the events that led to how the arab world got carved up afterwards.

if you cannot tell me the importance of the hussein-mcmahon correspondence, the balfour declaration, and ESPECIALLY the sykes-picot agreement (!!!!!) individually and how they relate to each other and how they affected the world powers in that area going forward, you are lacking a large understanding of the historical context that shaped this area.

don't get me wrong: there's so much more in regards to culture and religion and the schisms thereof, and how contact and exchanging ideas affected things all leading up to that point and how those much older things affected things after that but tbh?? today's current political climate in the arab world? if you cannot learn about, interpret, and convey back to someone the importance of those events and what happened afterwards? you are missing a huge piece of what has happened.

its not the end all be all, but its a good place to start. you can go forwards or backwards from there, but thats a good snapshot of how things played out going forward.

disclaimer: i dont know everything and dont claim to, but this is my minor and i do have a fascination with the history of the area.

this professor said something in all of his classes that has stuck with me to this day, and i will leave you with it:

"In order to get a C in this class, you will give me the bare bones facts. Dates and events, what happened there. If you want a B, you will have to give me context. Why did these events happen? What led up to them happening? If you want an A, you will give me your opinion. We are not training parrots. We are training scholars. If you cannot formulate an opinion one way or another on what you've learned, you do not deserve an A in this class."

s has been replying slower for the past few days and its making me so anxious lol im sure its fine TT right?

anyways w sat down w me at lunch??? i was studying at my fav café and i didnt even notice he was there until he had passed my table and then come back. he just asked if he could sit w me and i obv said yes. he sat w me for the entire time too so for like a solid 30 minutes. crazy. we talked ab studies and projects and stuff.

its really bothering me that i fell into this hole of liking two ppl at once. it feels so mean. talking to s while still having somewhat of a crush on w. i think ive realized by now though that s is obviously more realistic AND were most likely more compatible anyways. idk w well enough to tell though but at least s isnt religious. thats one of the biggest dealbreakers for me as an atheist.
