Folklore of Scotland Map🧭👻
Do you have an interest in folklore and are traveling Scotland? If so, I have been building a map for you to use!
From spooky stories (like a water-horse shapeshifted into an old woman who kills a girl), to quirky ones (like a well where you toss cheese for the fairies), I am adding it all. All the locations will also link to posts with more information.
I hope it helps!
I will continuously add to it over time.
Note: I haven't tested it on mobile

"Master, do you mind joining me on a flight? You'll just have to hold onto me."
Perfect drop time for the year of the dragon-
And with Ao Lie being your green Jedi/Sith champion, that rounds up all the champions I had planned to add. :)
Though, having Jin and Yin join in as orange and grey champions, or I guess gold and silver champions in their case, would also be a very fitting option. But that would really boil down to how many would actually be interested in having them on the team though. Due to their mirrors, they would still be lovable dumbasses when together, but would be acting kinda different- Especially on their own.

Gigi (CampChitaquaMemories)’s Giant Fic Rec Post
(Version Date: 7/1/23)
Since Twitter is actually, maybe for real this time, taking it's last gasping breaths, I'm moving this thread over here for archival purposes. Please note that this list is massive, and I will be making no effort to organize it by fandom, pairing, tropes, etc. There's just too much here to collate at the moment.
*Any of these fics could have become archive locked since this post was created. If you attempt to load a fic and get an "oops" page instead, that's almost certainly what happened. Copy the link instead and paste it into the address bar of a browser where you are already signed in to Ao3.

Info and Masterlist
Right now I have ideas for 3 main tournaments. The first one will be movies (done!), then depending on how that goes I’ll do TV shows (happening now!) and characters (done!). I’m open to suggestions for more. I’m also only doing things that I’ve seen, so I’m excluding Rangi’s Catch, Other Halves, Mauri, The Rainbow Warrior Conspiracy, Shark In The Park, New Zealand at War, The Reluctant Hero, Te Ao Mahana, Missing Christmas, Mt. Zion, Dawn, Meke, Echo 3, The Woman in Blue, and Far North. (If anyone can point me in the direction of any of those I would love to watch them and add them to the polls. I’m in the US and don’t currently have a VPN.)
Each round of polls will last one week. I’ll add links to watch the movies/shows if it’s easily accessible and free. This is so if you haven’t seen one or both movies/shows in a poll, you can still make an educated guess as to which one(s) you would like more. If there’s a tie, I’ll count my vote as invalid and advance the one I didn’t vote for.
Masterlist of polls under the cut
Tournament 1: Movies
Finished! Results:
Tournament 2: Characters
Note: this bracket is too big to comfortably fit everything into a summary picture, so I’m putting the winners in bold and including the results percentages in red for the losers and green for the winners.

Fic writer interview
Thanking @sinni-ok-sessi for the tag!
How many works do you have on AO3? 13
What's your total AO3 word count? 50455 - holy shit, a whole nanowrimo!
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Sleeping Arrangements (Good Omens)
Habitual (Good Omens)
Project New Hope (MCU)
Passing the Time (Star Trek:DS9)
With Friends Like These (Star Wars, The Mandalorian)
I think I kind of already knew about the top 3, but I would not have called the last two. Nice to see With Friends LIke These doing well, that was so much fun to write but I never felt like it found its audience, y'know
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Mostly not, alas - it feels very awkward to just repeatedly say Thanks <3, however genuinely and enthusiastically I would mean that! I want emoji reacts to AO3 comments, that's about the level I'm at. That being said, I'll try to make the effort if someone's written me an essay, because it's so cool to get that and I've had some really fun conversations that way
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I don't really do angsty endings. I've been known to write angsty fic, but I'm usually ending on an upswing...Story-Wise is probably the closest, being as how it's heavily implied that everybody involved is dead, and also Bilbo walks away at the end, but even that to me is more bittersweet than angsty.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? Not Story-Wise, and probably not Lethe. But with the rest I don't know that there's much between them. The ship ones tend to end with a get-together, the dealing-with-shit ones tend to end on a found family gathering, and the funny ones end on punchlines; they're all happy but no stand-outs, if that makes sense.
Do you write crossovers? Write? Sure. Plan out intricately and in great detail? Absolutely. Finish? Never in my life. I tend to have the idea for a lot of crossovers too, but very few of those ever get started. Off the top of my head, the current list includes a Star Trek AOS/Disney's Atlantis fusion, thousands of words of BBC Merlin is happening in Starfleet now, a few incoherent sentences of post-Burial Mounds Wei Wuxian having absorbed all of its ghosts a la Matthew Swift of Blue Electric Angels fame, three scenes of Person of Interest and Castle, several pages of Phryne Fisher and Diana Prince are besties - ohhhhh, and my beloved "Oh Good, My Sith Found the Chainsaw" Star Wars/Lilo and Stitch nonsense, which is the only one of these I have any intention of finishing.
Have you ever received hate on a fic? Not as far as I remember. The closes I ever got was someone commenting on Project New Hope in a very "trying to start a fight about MCU Civil War" way, but claiming they agreed with my opinion on it despite MCU Civil War very much not happening in that universe. Very odd.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Not really? The closest I've gotten in anything published is the blowjob letter in And With It My Constant Mind, which is more of an extended sext, and the ending of Untitled #3...the theme seems to be Cyrano De Bergerac and blowjobs, so make of that what you will.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not as far as I know
Have you ever had a fic translated? No.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Involves too much unfortunate-ordeal-of-being-known, I'm afraid. I'm in awe of people who do this though, the process mystifies me.
What’s your all-time favorite ship? I am invoking my god-given bisexual right not to choose. I cannot do it. Simply impossible. Cyrano/Christian/Roxane of Cyrano de Bergerac fame is probably a front-runner though.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? Lin Chen's Hanahaki Research Project - I was having a lot of fun with character voices and style, and it was challenging me as a writer in interesting ways, but I think it needs more research and investment and full Nirvana in Fire rewatches than I'm ever going to commit to.
What are your writing strengths? Comedy, yearning, and sentences that sound good when you read them aloud.
What are your writing weaknesses? Actually finishing things and comedy (I contain multitudes)
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Absolutely do not have the confidence to do that, thank you and good night.
What was the first fandom you wrote for? By published work, the MCU, unpublished I was not immune to Supernatural
What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to? Was not expecting this to be the trickiest one to answer, what the heck. Ummm. Idk. I get more enthused by specific ideas than by specific fandoms, I think - if I actively want to write for something it's because I've been Seized By An Idea(TM), Taken Hostage By An Idea, Had My Whole Brain Rewritten To Think Constantly About This Idea, rather than like abstractly, huh, it would be fun to write something for X
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? I-love-all-of-my-children-equally.gif. No, that's a cop-out. Um. Usually I think whatever I've written most recently gets the most affection, so With Friends Like These is bang at the top. And With It My Constant Mind I suspect is going to have the most longevity at the top of my list, I was living with that one for years and I'm really really proud of how it turned out.
Right, no pressure tagging @starkey @missfangirll @july-19th-club @ereborne and any other writerly folks lurking out there who are interested :D

The Sunnydale Herald Newsletter, Sunday, July 30
WILLOW: We were acting out a geometry problem, 'cause I read this really neat article that said kids learn math better if you, you stimulate their, uh, visual learning pattern. You know, using the right side of the brain instead of just the left? Stuff like that.
BUFFY: Uh-huh.
WILLOW: So we made a triangle with our bodies, and that's when I called Xander obtuse, and he got really grumpy, and then Dawn said we were "acute" triangle, and, well, hilarity ensued.
~~Tough Love~~
The Sunnydale Herald is looking for at least one new editor. Contributing to the Herald is a great way to get your Buffy on! Find out more here.

Continuing to mock myself from over what 2 years ago about how I could never write fae because I couldn't find anything interesting...here we are. More about the Unseelie, more of like the physical locations and I guess small detail.
The Unseelie do not have seasons in the traditional sense. Unlike the Seelie that can cycle through and change with its leader, the Unseelie's is stagnant (honestly ironic considering each court's culture).
'In traditional sense' meaning they kind of create their own backdrops which is done by the Welkin Repository. It is a massive honor to either weave or paint what would be the sky for the citadel. Outside of the citadel, seasons only exist if the settlement is 'on the surface' or at the Winter Palace.
The Unseelie are technically located underground. This is because their home, meta wise, is based off daoine sith or aos si as it might be better known since that is technically what fae can be classed as within that region.
Having said that, the Unseelie is both a realm and it is not. Basically in a technical sense they are in the underground of Scotland but not like literally dug into the soil. It's more of the Unseelie sort of take up the space that should be underneath the ground. Or the 'other side' of this space so it can be more expansive than the actual space. Thus why the mortal realm is 'just above them.'
The capital of the Unseelie is called The Citadel and it is because it's literally the most fortified place within the entirety of the realm. It is the center of the whole system.
There are many cave and tunnel systems within the Unseelie and it's the main way to move to any settlements or to reach the surface. These are done with any number of nonhuman beasts since normal creatures like horses are likely to get injured in the terrain.
There is a phrase 'the darkness will lead you home.' This isn't a form of comfort, this is true. If someone is truly lost, they can extinguish their light and allow luminescent stones overheard lead you back to the citadel. This isn't for every single tunnel but it is enough of them that one is likely to be able to get back with this method.
The caves, tunnels and pockets within the Unseelie can by all accounts, seem nonsensical or improbable to the normal world. There are areas with a clime that should not exist. There are structures that seem impossible to have formed or to be built. These are all attributed to fae that underwent 'reversion' or lost themselves to their nature. It is because of the awe and strangeness of these places that the Unseelie do truly find the 'reversion' to be an honor in some way.
Reversion is not relied upon but is very useful as they can form some fertile places, give areas with drinkable water, and provide buffers between different areas. If it is known the fae that did these, they are usually given high honors and usually their family will be taken care of in exchange for their sacrifice.
The Unseelie settlements used to be scattered and uncommunicative. This had shifted within the last few centuries as the king at the time got a bit power hungry and wanted it all. This actually was also a scheme of the current king, Balmoral, that let him rise to general AND get the settlements together so they all could be aided. The stint while general gained him the title of 'The Consort of the Untamed' as he was a major player of the unification campaign.
At current, the Unseelie has a robust trading system within themselves although they do not have much that they could trade outside of their place physically besides silver and 'clach sith,' or 'fae stones,' that are excellent conduits or components for magic rituals and devices.
Having said that, Unseelie does have a decent amount of business in simply having a place to go. Being 'rivals and companions of the misbegotten' was no hyperbole, the Unseelie has taken in others and it has worked in the sense of by giving a place to call home, the being in return finds something they can give back to the Unseelie.
The palace within the citadel is where the king resides and it is harder to get in because the castle literally floats. It's not high from the ground but because it is magical bridges that allow one to get to it, it can easily become difficult to invade.
The space below the palace is a very deep and ominous hole that is called 'the Abyss.' Many Unseelie find it uneasy and do not tend to do anything in relation to it. This is also because this is also place of punishment. Traitors and other very 'dangerous' beings are thrown down it. There are actually several layers of magical arrays as well as a lot of very sharp and unforgiving rocks down there. So escape is considered extremely difficult if not impossible.
To this though, Balmoral has stated that 'you all make such a big fuss about nothing' implying that the pit is not as impossible as believed. Now whether he is bluffing or not is the question.
The Winter Court is located on the surface and technically in the mortal realm. It follows the same logic as the Unseelie's settlements that is on 'the other side' of this space in the world. It is not usually used until the colder months. It can house the entirety of the Unseelie but it normally does not have to deal with that high capacity.
And while it can be visited any time, the colder months is when the king usually is conducting business at the Winter Court. This is mainly for convenience as the Sluagh na Marbh technically goes on during this time and he should be present for it in case an unexpected or unruly spirit ends up causing trouble.
However the real zeal for the Sluagh na Marbh isn't until December/first snow falls because it is marked for the partying of the Unseelie. The winter is basically the Unseelie party/ball/etc season. And likely when the Unseelie would prefer inviting guests from afar.

Fideal / Fidealadh
Loch na Fideil is a loch in Scotland just south of the Loch Maree Hotel, and has it’s name for a very specific reason; it once had a creature called fideal(or Fidealadh) haunting it’s waters.
Loch na Fideil : Loch of the ‘ Fideal , ‘ a certain dangerous water monster . Near Loch Maree Hotel .
“Place-names of Ross and Cromarty” by William John Watson(1904)
It was one of the fuath — which is a term for typically malicious water fairies — and made her home in lakes.
There, she would sing to attract the attention of those passing by, and enchant them with her beauty. She is often mentioned as the personification of marsh grass and reeds, because once someone was in her grasp, she would drown them.
"She haunted Loch na Fideil in Gairloch and was supposed to allure men and drag them under the water."
“A Encyclopedia of Fairies” by Katharine Briggs (1976)
There was, however, at least one man that proved to be a match for the fideal of Loch na Fideil. His name was Ewen, and was described as a strongman. Both he and the fideal fought fiercely, but proved to be an even match, and both killed the other.
"Ewen killed the Fideal , and the Fideal killed Ewen."
“Place-names of Ross and Cromarty” by William John Watson (1904)

okay fuck it. guide to Sylvas Sha'ael and names because ho boy there's a bunch of those.
--so main canon Sylvas. A Smuggler, turned Pirate, turned Crime Lord-- Voidviper, working with Sith Intelligence and maintaining residence amd fleet on Nowhere--
Their original name is Tivan'n Caes, which is so not common knowledge that it doesn't exist in any files, only like 4, mmmaybe 5, people in total are aware of that name. (which makes the Force Sensitive AU use that name as well, eventually switching to Sylvas Nydhis post Sacking.)
For several years afterwards, they used Revas Arramis as an alias. Usually only used for a specific time in their past before a specific Incident.
Most used Sylvas Sha'ael.
And on top of that we also have the Ascendancy AU, where they grown up with their parents instead on Corellia ao they have a chiss name-- Corrs'ilavt'hisha. Core name: Silavth. Which is only in that particular au where they land themselves in Imperial Agent Story.
You can tell this is my main bastard. So many names they need it's own guide XD

NAME: Cat-sith
RARITY: ★★★☆☆
THREAT LEVEL: ★★☆☆☆ | They cause chaos more than death, but can really make every day miserable for people who don’t realize just what their new “cat” actually is.
HABITAT: Found in populated areas as ill-tempered pets (often by mistake), and are an especially common sight in aos sí communities where they make more biddable pets. Some may be “wild”.
DESCRIPTION: Cat-sith are cat-like fae that look deceptively like normal cats, leading to humans unwittingly ending up with them as irascible pets. They’re larger than typical cats, reaching the size of an Australian shepherd dog, and have exceptional intelligence beyond that of normal cats. Their coats are pitch black, making them nearly invisible in the dead of night, except for the white spot on its chest. They permanently have their hair standing on end, making themselves look even bigger and angrier. Those who dare pet a cat-sith will find they’re ice cold, and can even give someone hypothermia if cuddled up with them (they enjoy sleeping by fires and sources of heat).
They’re thought to be bad omens and may in fact live up to their reputation, playing tricks, intentionally tripping people, and causing trouble at night like any respectable fae. They’re always easily rankled and always have awful temperaments, responding to most attempts at affection or even being approached with claw slashes and bites. Some suspect cat-sith may live upward of 200 years, and they’re willing to carry a petty grudge for just as long. Kittens are extremely rare; most adult cat-sith end up in aos sí communities or in county shelters.
ABILITIES: If the sharp claws and teeth of a cat-sith – which they readily and aggressively use – don’t turn someone off from owning one, one doesn't need to look far to see other less than ideal qualities of this cat. Not just physically freezing, cat-sith spread their icy demeanor through the house in a more figurative manner, too. Those who live with a cat-sith will begin to find they feel more emotionally distant to those around them, eventually culminating in the person regarding everyone with a chilly reception and often causing long-term relationships to expire. Cat-sith are highly intelligent, perhaps as smart as humans, and will not tolerate being treated like a “pet,” even by other fae. You are a servant, not an owner. Open the can of tuna.
WEAKNESS: Fae receive a lukewarm reception from them (which is better than ice cold) and they willingly cohabitate without causing some of the issues they bring to non-fae households, so rehoming to a fae is often suggested to someone who finds themselves troubled by these felines. On Samhain, cat-sith demand a saucer of cream be left out for them. They may cease their mischief for a while if the “owner” complies. Cat-sith cannot tolerate iron and direct contact will leave them with a burn, for which you will spend an eternity paying for.
OTHER VARIANTS:
Gwarag: These cat fae cousins to the cat-sith change their appearance as part of their feeding method. No one knows what they truly look like, but all of their forms have the round eyes and nose of a cat. They also always have fur, and they remain about the size of a kitten. Gwarags shift to suit the tastes of the person or animal they’re targeting, forging an empathetic connection to determine what would be found most appealing. Usually this is the form of a baby animal. Once they have the attention and care of their victim, that person is then manipulated into doing just about anything for the gwarag. Some gwarag simply do this for protection while others are more malicious and seek to psychologically torture their victims. Attempting to break this bond can be incredibly dangerous for the victim, forcing them into desperate measures and leading to depression once they’re separated from the gwarag. These bad kitties have no defenses of their own other than their thrall, and are vulnerable to iron. Wardens are immune from their control.
Pandafeche: These white-haired Italian fae cats have the ice cold body temperature of their cat-sith cousins, and need to sustain themselves on the body heat of others. They’ll typically lie down on top of their owners while sleeping, absorbing their heat and often leaving the owners sickly or dangerously cold in the morning. They have a gentler disposition and make better pets even for non-fae, but those mornings can be really rough on those living with pandafeche. Additionally, they may give their owners nightmares, but it’s unknown whether this is because of the fae itself, or a side effect of the drop in core temperature the person experiences. Other sources of heat such as fires and blankets will not sustain the pandafeche in a healthy manner (the fae will become sick over time) but it’s possible to train the pandafeche in how often it feeds and in what quantity so that owner and cat can both feel… mostly okay.
