just finished season two of heartstopper and you guys have no idea how i felt when i heard the words asexual and aromantic and how i related to everything isaac went through: the confusion, the constant feeling that something is wrong with you because you don't feel the same as people your age, society's obsession with relationships and isaac's burst of anger because he felt like the group only cared about the romantic aspect of his life as if it's the most important one... i'm so so grateful to alice and the show for the aroace representation and i can't wait to see more of isaac's journey in the next seasons because this one made me feel seen and valid and i actually teared up a couple of times especially when he picked up the ace book from the library in the final episode :,) ALSO can we talk about how iconic it was to use "crush culture" by conan gray when that man was explaining the meaning behind his artwork to isaac? i was literally smiling from ear to ear

honestly i think it’s so gross how many adults i have seen on this app upset that heartstopper is a show rather mild in its sexual content. it’s a show that’s target audience is young queer people….about young queer people……played by young queer people. the show is not “anti-sex” at all, if you actually watched the show charlie and nick discuss that they WANT to do more, that they want to “go further” some day. charlie has a boat load of trauma (including trauma about having his physical boundaries ignored) however and nick is still processing his sexuality, so why are you pushing for them to be intimate?? i’ve known people who have dated for years and didn’t actually have sex until they were adults and mature enough to do so.
viewing this show as a adult woman i find it honestly disturbing that there is this fixation on the necessity of sexual content including children. because that is who these characters are. children.
the show does not bash sex (uhh the teachers very clearly banged??), it merely advises against forcing yourself to be sexual before you are ready. the queer community has always been demonized as a “hypersexual” group of people, but that is merely a label forced upon us. heartstopper is the one of the only queer pieces of media that defies this expectation, and tells queer kids everywhere that it’s ok to take your time, and that sex is not the end all be all.

any aro/aces out there? 👀👀👀
I don't know why this is so confusing to me but as an asexual and aromantic person I actually LIVE for little fanfics where I can experience "love" and "intimacy" from afar. I like the "theory" of being in a relationship but I don't like it as much when it comes to "real life", and having a crush on people/characters feels sooooo safe, thrilling and (yes) infuriating because at the same time is like a rash I cannot scratch, does that make sense?

HEARTSTOPPER SEASON 2 SPOILERS
okay so i just finished the second season- and it made me sob so much(as expected from reading the books-) but can we just talk about isaac for a sec?
seeing aroace rep like that on screen is amazing- getting to see him discover himself and be mad at the world is fucking amazing- its not easy living in a world that is build around sex and romance- so yeah - ace and aro people should get to be angry- and im so happy we saw that- also isaac not figuring out he's aroace till another aroace person tells him is so real i was, to be fully honest, kinda afraid after seeing the trailer because i thought they were gonna make james his love interest- but this is so much better- this is what we need point is i love him and i will fight anyone who says anything bad about him

The Tendi and Rutherford fake dating episode really was one of the best things a TV show could do to cater to me, an aromantic person, because I generally do not like fake dating as a trope, but I do love taking tropes that are often considered romantic and applying them to characters who love each other platonically instead, and Lower Decks just did it so well.
The joke at the end of the episode where they're like "That was terrible, lets never do it again. Anyways" and then climb on top of each other in the Jeffries tube because they really are that close, just not in that way was such a perfect moment. They're inseparable best friends and also pretending to date each other was awful because it made them uncomfortable. And the joke for most of the episode isn't really that they are uncomfortable, it's that they're stuck in a weird contrived sitcom scenario and don't know how to get out of it.
Also I'm going to be thinking about the gag with Rutherford shouting "We got married at a wedding!" to the rest of the hotel lobby forever.

I listened to the new heartstopper trailer 3 times. We see Isaac once and he exchanges a look with someone. IT'S BETTER NOT BE A LOVE INTEREST. I'm paranoid right now because I physically need Isaac's aroace representation (I know exchanging a friendly look with someone doesn't mean romantic love, I'm just really scared cause he means a lot to me) I LOVE ISAAC. If we don't see him more next season I'll cry, I feel particularly emotional today sorry about that.

Isaac being ace and/or aro is so important to so many people and i’m actually so happy that Alice went that direction. i’m ngl i was confused with the James bit at first, but seeing him realise that he wasn’t “like everyone else” and then slowing learning that he didn’t HAVE to be. my little heart can’t take it.
it’s so important that we have this representation, not just for the people who identify as aroace (but YES that’s definitely a thing we need for them) but also for the people who might not understand and need to see that “hey, there’s more than just this this and this.” so many queer kids are going to see themselves in Issac and I think thats absolutely wonderful.
Also. Elles new friends. Slay. Showing us that people who aren’t cis come in all shapes and sizes, and that you don’t have to fit in one box. and the disabled rep with Felix? slay. absolutely wonderful.
queer is a word that encapsulates so many different people of different backgrounds, races, ages, genders, identities, shapes and sizes. and it’s important that we have that representation in the media.
so thank you to Alice for giving us such a wide variety to learn from and see ourselves in.

“does there need to be a declaration made, or a specification made, or is just the plot acknowledging that there is no romantic future for this character enough?”

"Toughest case to crack! What is romantic love?"
So, remember when people were disappointed that these two were non-romanceable back in the day? Well I have a game theory! 😈😈
Please don't forget to include aromantics in your wishes and posts about pride this year! To those who are already including us, thank you! 🙏

Alice Oseman's books are saving my life. She is my favorite person in the world. I love the queer representation in her books. And I love the way she shows that Romantic Love is not the most important thing. Characters and stories can be so interesting without a romantic storyline.
Love you, Alice.
I hope more people knew about your books. And I hope we get the adaptations to all your books on T.V. one day.
