Since everybody seems to have an opinion on the whole Mario fiasco aka Chris Pratt casting (depending all on how you view it - pun intended). I figured I would let my artwork do my talking and just tell everyone now….it could be worse. (And Chris does a pretty good job yall - like for real). One particular memory Dawnda Daniel has of her father in his Stetson hat is sipping coffee with him as the Texas sun rose, then saddling up to drive cattle. She was nine.

We photographed this hat years ago after he passed away and though it emanated with love back then, how could we ever know the many layers of memories it told.

And that is the pure joy of getting to work with @countrylivingmagazine and my monthly Colum, Everyday Heirlooms. There’s always more to the story.

We got to revisit the story of the Stetson hat for this month issue and I highly suggest you mosey out to get a copy for yourself. There’s a toothpick still stuck in the band, and this is just the start of the many stories the hat tells and lessons it holds.

"Compartimentos" é como eu decidi nomear essa nova série de desenhos. Eles provavelmente serão diferentes do que costumava fazer, e diferentes entre si também. Vou tentar me surpreender a cada um deles.⁣

O primeiro compartimento é sobre os perigos de se saber muito bem que não se deve correr com tesouras, mas correr mesmo assim. E rápido.⁣

We have no other choice in this world than to identify the tiny bolts of light and hang on tightly. Grief can convince you not to. Love always wins the argument. The Hayes family is proof.

They’re six months out from losing John, their father, husband, brother, friend, and businessman. At their direction, we were commissioned to celebrate.

“The most colorful and joyful man,” Hayden says of her late father. “He was larger than life. His signature was always wearing a tie and cufflinks.”

Pictured is a collection of his favorites. Hayden can connect each tie to a specific holiday, family gathering, or childhood memory. The cufflinks are her mom Amy’s favorites.

Amy’s print is for her bookcase. Hayden’s will hang in the entry way of her home.

"A wonderful talking point,” she said, which just fills our Heirloomist heart with that mission-accomplished-feeling. Keeping memories present in a modern, stylish way is exactly what we came here to do.

“Tied together forever,” Hayden wrote of her art. Well said.

💛 Hey! 😁 Day 4: 3 things about me... 💫1. I have lots of animals / pets - x3 cats, LOTS of chickens, x13 guinea pigs at the most & numerous fish in the pond. As a kid I had a huge collection of garden snails 😂 🐌 - a good friend & I were joint owners & we even built them snail palaces & a mountain! 💫2. My hair is extremely long, currently 110cm. My locs started many years ago when one of my girls requested I have them, she had chosen a similar hairstyle herself & wasn't feeling very positive about her hair type and texture at the time despite all my best efforts. I'm pleased to say my locs helped a lot alongside our continued celebration of who 'you' are & the diversity of beauty. The shift in the media celebrating diversity more & promotion of 'natural hair' have had a big positive impact too. Not many know that locs are associated with Native American culture too, I've got a great collection of old photos of American Indian locs / hair rolling. 💫3. I craved toasted marshmallows when pregnant with twins... tbh I'm not sure the craving ever properly stopped!
