Hi I'm rewatching Psych (2006) and have found some glaring similarities between Shawn Spencer and Bruce Wayne:

I gotta take a second to rec this, because it might be hands down my favourite fic of all time. The authorial voice is just ✨DIVINE✨, and it is just so deeply moving, I have no words. Its just so... healthy? Portrayal of sex and consent and sex work? Amazing. Attitudes towards trust and communication? Wonderful. Exploration of mental health, PTSD, panic attacks, ASD, inward growth as well as fostering something beautiful between the two romantic leads? Fan-freaking-tastic. Plus it also features lines such as

He wonders if Wei Ying would keep talking, even while being kissed. He thinks he probably would.

Its absolute ADHD meets Autism solidarity, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. (Plus, the smut is seriously god-tier.)

I’ve never really mentioned it, but I have a headcanon that R-T and Otis would be good friends :0

Here some headcanons I made for them :]

• I see them around the same age-ish. Otis is 11, borderline gonna turn 12 while R-T is 13 to me.

• R-T tends to act more mature for his age because he thinks it makes him look cool and “adult”, but trust me when I say this as soon as Otis is around that maturity go out the window lmao

R-T: Hm yes I’m the secretary for this park and I take my job very serious-

Otis: OOoOoOooOoo! (Wanna play pirates!)

R-T: LIKE YOU HAVE TO ASK 🏴‍☠️☠️⚔️

• Otis is one of the few people (?) in the park that R-T has totally complete trust in. He makes it feel comfortable enough to let it’s guard down. (Also because Otis is a kid and the majority of the brawlers can’t understand a single word he says, so who’s gonna believe him when R-T does something wrong?)

• Speaking of understanding Otis, R-T can understand him completely! I like to think that R-T’s translation protocol or whatever the hell it’s called is advanced enough to translate Otis gibberish, so R-T is one of the few brawlers to understand him!

As a joke R-T pretends to not understand Otis, mainly to mess with the other brawlers, but Otis also takes advantage of this. He uses any and all opportunities to try and make R-T laugh and R-T genuinely find Otis to be the funniest mf at the park, so R-T is constantly fighting for its life whenever Otis is around lol

• Although their friendship is genuine, the brawlers always question whether it is or not (with the exceptions of Colette, and the arcade trio of course). Otis finds it annoying, especially when it’s the pirates or Hank that are the ones questioning him, but R-T gets extremely upset whenever someone asks.

Like Jesus Christ, can it have *one* damn friend? Someone around its age that it can relate to? Someone who isn’t scared of it? Someone who finds the same amount of enjoyment it feels when it is around them? Someone who makes it feel *normal* for once in its life??? Is that so hard to believe???

• Uh…on a lighter note, ADHD Otis and Autism R-T solidarity! (Not saying Otis doesn’t have autism btw)

• NAPPING BUDDIES!!! THEY LOVE TO NAP TOGETHER 🥺💖💖💖

• Otis likes to use R-T as a canvas sometimes (with R-T’s permission of course)! It’s usually just little doodles that he paints on it, but sometimes he tries to do a complicated scene or practice his blending. You would think I would mess with R-T’s sensory issues, but no! He kind of likes the feeling of a paintbrush on his skin :]

Idk something about these two being friends really puts a smile on my face. I’d go as far to say that I see them as platonic soulmates.

Thoughts and Observations From The Movie, Part 2/4

Welcome to part two of the silly things and fun details I picked out from the Rise movie!

My sister and I often pause the movie here to reread the options on this whiteboard for destroying the key, and it never fails to make us laugh. My one question: when and how did they test Donnie’s stomach? He wasn’t even there!

Also, feels like a callback to TummyTello, somehow. It also leaves me wondering why Donnie’s Stomach was an actual idea for destruction, regardless of whether it involves TummyTello. Guy must eat some crazy stuff XD

“So… You’re Running Out of Ideas.” by Syr E. Piphany.

Okay, okay, bear with me- I actually have a little theory for this one. This is a screenshot from when Leo asks Donnie to locate Raph. Donnie tells him that Raph is practically- and then that he actually IS- on top of them. What I noticed here is that on this visual locator he has, none of the little character icons are oriented the same way their real life counterparts are. All six characters are in the same area and standing pretty close to each other, and I would assume that, kinda like google location sharing or snapchat location maps, you have to zoom in further on the map to get more specific locations.

This kinda sounds like it’s going nowhere, but what I’m getting at is the idea that when multiple people are in the same location, given that we know the icons will not be oriented perfectly to the people they represent, they’ll probably appear in the same orientation every time.

Which would mean!! that Donnie has intentionally designed his tracker app to have icons show up with this orientation when people are close together, furthermore meaning that he chose to put his big brother in the center of them all on purpose. As an artist myself, this could be coincidental, but very rarely are things like this done without purpose, and I like to imagine it’s a subtle way to represent Donnie thinking the absolute world of his big brother; that he would turn to Raph for guidance even before Splinter, whose icon is on the other side of the circle from Donnie’s.

I also love that the icons for Donnie’s best friend and Donnie’s “twin” are on either side of his.

And, as one last afterthought, I think this could also be a subtle nod to how Raph’s krangification becomes the center of the story and main motivator for all the characters for a huge chunk of the movie.

Does ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS?????

That absolutely looks like a masked face in the biogrowth at the top of this building. In truth, it actually looks a lot more like one of the paper ninjas than it does the Shredder, but the similarities are still there, and it works as further evidence that the Shredder and the goals of the Foot Clan were all hinged around the Krang.

Is anyone else floored by the size of this skull that Krang 1 or whatever is sitting on? I always would forget about it pretty immediately given Leo’s cheeky “surprise!” here, but this thing looks like the head of a freakin’ dragon or something. I wonder what it is? And how it got to, let alone died in, the technodrome.

One genuinely non-serious theory my sister and I occasionally talk about is the idea that the technodrome is actually a massive egg, and this was the incomplete embryo of whatever it would have become. Further non-serious evidence, which can be seen in the next images, is that the technodrome, in spite of being extremely technologically advanced, is clearly… alive, not just pure tech. Actually, everything the Krang use seems to be bio-mechanical in nature, to some degree.

It will probably be made pretty clear here that Donnie is my favourite character, just a fair warning XD But man I love this scene- one, because of the Autism-ADHD solidarity shown between PB&J immediately previous, and, two, because it’s actually a seriously incredible show of strength from Donnie.

Many fans of Rise, and of Donnie especially, also have Autism (like Donnie is confirmed to have) and/or ADHD (including myself) and understand that sensory issues mixed with New Things You Don’t Understand can be absolute hell. Like, ruins your day, renders you inactive, unfocused, nonverbal, made to be a shaking ball of anxiety, hell. Not always, but the point still stands.

Additionally, and as much as I am all for Donnie’s softshell not being seen as a big weakness because it’s natural and still more protection than any normal person has (not to mention the advantages it offers him in terms of swimming and flexibility (also probably feels really nice for scritches and sleep piles)), it actually does seem a relevant point here that this is, technically speaking, the most vulnerable part of Donnie’s body. So actively choosing to expose it to an unfamiliar and highly advanced, invasive and living technology on top of the difficulties that come with the above described neurodivergent tendencies goes against his nature in so, so many ways, but he does it anyway.

Mikey being worried about his vulnerability here, in spite of feeling out of place before, makes a lot more sense from this perspective. Knowing all that, honestly-- it just never fails to impress me.

Hey Devon,

Do you have any book/resource recommendations for polyamory/ethical nonmonogamy? I saw your article on polysecure and I was wondering if you've read into the subject enough to have some tips for what to keep in mind when looking for resources of this kind. I'm not new to being poly in the way that I've never thought of it, I'm more new to the actually doing/being nonmonogamous. My partner was uncomfortable until recently and then quite suddenly found someone else attractive in so many ways and now after years of putting my poly feelings away, I'm trying to dust them off and get them up to speed while encouraging her to not put those feelings away like I did (it was a sacrifice I was more than willing to make at the time). We both like the 3rd person, she's just a little further along in connecting! As it stands, she is our "special friend" and we have all agreed upon a set of activities that we all feel comfortable and safe doing together. We're all trans and neurodivergent in similar ways (and I mean this beyond autism/adhd) so we've been finding a lot of solidarity and comfort with each other.

If this is not really something you feel you can comment on that's perfectly OK!

I wish I did, but I don't. I read Love is Not Color Blind hoping very much to like it, but while it had a strong introduction and I agree with the author's overall framework for understanding the world, the bulk of the book just winds up being "how to not be a shitty white person in community with people of color 101" (which if you need it, great, but if youve read those kinds of resources before it will be largely familiar to you) and not really about polyamory in all that much depth. Hopefully someone reading this will have a better recommendation. Ideally from someone with more leftist politics than Fern has.

Banana boy! The idiot! The silly himself! Took me too damn long to get to this, but better late than never, I think. Here you go!

Favorite thing about them: If I had to put it in one word, that'd be tenacity. As Yuugo himself put it, he doesn't even know what giving up means, no matter what sort of adversity he faces. This persistence is honestly admirable for someone who grew up in an environment that relentlessly pushed him down at each and every turn, and it's a quality I strongly respect.

Shoutout to his baby vibes, though. Yuugo is precious and must be protected at all costs (even if I know he can damn well protect himself).

Least favorite thing about them: Yuugo's single-minded approach to things is usually endearing, but sometimes it can be rather frustrating. One such example is choosing to duel Yuuri as payback for kidnapping Rin... instead of -you know- going back to find Rin himself? I struggle to even justify that by way of magical fuckery, because as far as was shown, Yuugo was very much himself when he made that decision.

*sigh*

Favorite line: Would it be cheating the question if I say too many to count? Because it's true. This boy says the dumbest things sometimes, but he also has his sweet moments and I love every single one of those. That said, Clear Wing's summon chant deserves an honorary mention. I think it's very neat.

brOTP: Imma throw a curveball and say Yuuya. I was always intrigued by the idea of possible interactions between the two, and the interactions we got in Yuugo's Duel Links event did not disappoint at all!

I just think they're very neat together. They're both adorkable idiots who can't seem to hold the braincell right, and the small differences between them only make the dynamic more interesting. They're also a lot more perceptive than they might let on, and I think that'd lend itself well to interactions where one of the two is feeling down. I'd love to see more of these sillies together, honestly. Please let them tag together sometime.

OTP: I kid you not when I say my primary reason for shipping him with Rin is because of the ship name pun (Ringo is literally just apple in Japanese), BUT! I've come to appreciate it a lot more overtime, because it's actually pretty interesting for a cliché ship dynamic if you squint hard enough. There's a lot of ways to interpret their relationship, and a fair amount of room for emotional growth on both sides too. I think it's nice, but alas, we never really got much of it onscreen.

(That's what fanwork is for, though!)

nOTP: I don't know chief, I just don't see what's there to ship in his and Yuzu's friendship. I guess it does offer the interesting concept where they're both trying to cope with the loss of their loved one through the other, but that just.... sort of rubs me the wrong way. I see them as great friends, but nothing past that at all.

Random headcanon: I think we can all agree that Yuugo's entire demeanor just screams ADHD. Strong hyperfixation on one interest? Check. A tendency to ramble at the smallest prompt? Check. A general inability to just hold still? Check. A crippling case of constant airheadedness? Check!

He and Yuuri invented ADHD/Autism solidarity in the ARC-Verse.

Unpopular opinion: Not sure if this really classifies, but I actually really like how they handled the "Fusion" joke in the EN dub. Seeing them try and pull a new wordplay every time is mildly amusing at worst and downright hilarious at best, and my personal favorite is the one where he says his name and the Obelisk Force reply with "Yugo? You go where?"

Song i associate with them: Seeing as I've been pretty much living under a rock when it comes to actual popular songs and not obscure lyricless tracks, I'm afraid to say my limited song collection has nothing that quite fits. However, his Duel Links theme is a certified banger and I'm so glad they went with such an amazing, completely original track for the boi, because it actually goes so hard wtf-

bruhh i just figured out that fuckin. god. one of the reasons i love c!technoblade so much is that he keeps getting used for his abilities, and like, at school so many times ppl only talked to me bc i was good at the work adn tehy wanted help and shit. like it dropped off once gcses started up bc i had hit my plateau of “oh god i cant do this all instinctually anymore i gotta work” but outside of like one friend literally the only reason ppl talked to me in computer science ,n maths n particular was because i was so good at it and they wanted me to help them. and like holy fuck that shit fucks you up!!! it hurts!!! but at the same time. you kind of crave it? like, you’re useful to people and you’re helping and they’re reacting positively! everything’s fine! this will have no adverse affects on your view of yourself and others and will definitely not cause you to place all your value in being good at things and hold onto that and hurt you immensely whenever you fail at anything and will definitely not make you view the people who are less good at things as inferior or weaker! none of those things will happen!!!

Your Kris grill post is very based. In honor of autism awareness day, do you have autistic headcanons for them and/or for any other Deltarune characters you hc as autistic? Like, the characters’ special interests, stims, etc? Go wild.

Only kris, really - ralseis social awkwardness gives me autist energy that can be funny to jest about but I pin it more on him being alone for most of his life. I like to think susie may have undiagnosed adhd, inspired by my husband who got his diagnosis this year (birds of a feather kek) and thats why her academic performance is so shit. I remember I made a very stupid drawing that does not reflect my actual takes on the characters about it as a joke lmfao

Okay disclaimer I grew up being an autist on a 3rd world country and many of the attitudes muricans on tumblr dot com have about it are alienating as fuck. I think the site romanticises and makes being an autist funny (not new, Ive been on tumbly since 2013 and saw it even pre dashcon), especially the teens and Its not. Especially when youre a girl and a tomboy like I am and you could cover it up just well enough No one can figure how fucked up you are, but not well enough to ever be respected by teachers or peers as an equal kek. I don’t like to share my history with it but it is for the most part very negative and self acceptance a struggle So im sorry, Ralsei^2 this answer may not be happy or generally positive- I’m in therapy to assess these things about myself but they are open wounds as of now

I’ve said in some kriselle post I see kris as xx chromosome/afab/whatever the socially accepted term is (I cant keep up with these language changes and policies because oh shit, imma fucking autist, that on top of that doesn’t even live near the same cultural context as the USA lmao) that is, in part, because of that too. My takes on it are rather simple

-kris is seen as the town weirdo because of their unusual behaviour and demeanour associated with being on the spectrum

-the little quirks like the spinning/jiggle jiggle/ball of junk/overt gestures when ACTing/putting stuff on the ground and patting it when you drop it/ etc are overcompensation for this aka kris is a bit of a social clown to compensate for their social deficits (real)

-toriel is kind of a tiger mom but kris can cover up their weirdness well enough they’re seen as “quirky” instead of anyone ever thinking to look into it (projecting there hard lmao) which is also why alphys tries to emphasise they’re “normal”

-the reason kris rarely talks or is said to be quiet (in canon, I make them talk lmao) is because they go mute under certain circumstances and generally suck at verbal communication

-has a fixation with knives and, on a wider spectrum, with smithing/metalwork

-likes bath bombs because of the smell and warm water

-noelle confides her own quirks with them because she just sees them as “quirky” but that gives her the confidence to

-susie and kris become such good friends in one day because autism/adhd solidarity that I have experienced myself irl (kinda crack headcanon here)

I wanna post about my crk ships so here we go

Obviously a crack ship, but I can see their dynamic. Red Velvet finally escapes his abusive partnership with Dark Enchantresses and enters the kingdom, where he meets Latte in Parfaedia. She welcomes him with open arms, and her optimism and teacher’s attitude do well to integrate him into the kingdom, and the two grow fond of each other.

A friendly rivalship between two dumbass girlbosses.

They have a similar dynamic to Esspressaleine (opposites attract). A no-time-to-lollygag, serious, workaholic, and a chill, funny, lazy dudebro. The biggest difference, though, is that I actually like vampire (and not madeleine).

Of all my crack ships, this is the crack shipiest. Raspberry teaches Tiger Lily how to become a kingdom civilian out of her noble duties, Tiger Lily becomes attached which the two to grow closer.

My favorite thing about them

I love Adora's crippling naivete. Like, she has no idea how the world works, what the appropriate way to act is, and it's all because of how she was raised. It's relatable! I love how strongminded and heroic she is, even if that is also a part of Shadow Weaver's manipulations.

My least favorite thing about them

Adora's character design is one of the blandest in the whole show. I think they should've made her a LITTLE bit more anime... charming, like Judau from Gundam... On top of that, her character arc is not the most interesting or unique, not compared to other characters in the show (like Catra), even if it is very good and self-aware for a protagonist character. What doesn't help is that a big chunk of her arc is spent not touching on her relationship to Catra at all, in season 4, and then in season 5 it's got nothing to do with Glimmer. Keeping both those characters under Adora's radar could've made her feel more complete.

My favorite canon relationship

Hmmm.... Catra! There is a whole new side to Adora when she's interacting with Catra that we never see when she's with other members of the Best Friend Squad. It's like this is where we see the REAL Adora!!! She's always way more interesting around Catra.

As for other friendships, I'm a big fan of any Adora/Scorpia interactions, because this brings out a different side to Scorpia, and I love the scenes in season 5 where Adora and Entrapta are just.... partners in chaos, that Bow has to round up.

Adora and Bow's friendship is really, really nice in season 5, with him looking out for her needs.

My favorite non-canon relationship

Like everyone else, I think it'd be funny if Adora and Double Trouble became friends. Shipping wise, well, here's a long shot - Mermista/Adora. Come on. Mermista's got a crush on her, they're both leaders, it'd be cute!

The sexuality I headcanon for them

Canon lesbian. No reason to go against that.

What I’d do if I could spend the day with them

I would make Adora feel valued for being the goofball that she is. I would ask her what she would like to do! And then we'd just do it! Wouldn't that be cool?

Random fact about them I like

Adora and Entrapta are ADHD/Autism solidarity. Maybe both ADHD AND Autism. Depending on your interpretation.

I relate to both for their inattentive and more feral characteristics, brought about by their personalities but also by neglect. It's really hard for me to put this into words, but She-Ra actually provides a reference point for me to explain, especially Adora, whose feralness and deprivation gets covered quite extensively in the early eps of the show. Like how she doesn't know parties, or good food, and how Glimmer is like wow that's TERRIBLE, but Adora's like... this is how I've lived my whole life up to this point.....

and like both of them, i have a really hard time sleeping. im like adora in the sense that i am a really light and jumpy sleeper.

Anon you will regret opening pandora’s box. Or not. In any case, this post is going to be very long because I’m full of love. Also, anything marked romantic does not need to be romantic for me to lose my shit over them. In no particular order, either. Just in the order I thought of them.

1. The Black-eyed trio

Characters: Otto, Sparx, and Gibson.

Type: Platonic, Romantic,

Explanation: These three are grouped together by virtue of not being obscenely powerful and serving more practical uses on the team. Also, their eyes are all the same color. Besides the poetic connections of the colors of their design, they were alone in the robot together while the other three monkeys were out training.

Sparx and Gibson’s interactions give me life, going from playful jabs to genuine fighting right back to ride-or-die is amazing. The beginning of Night Of Fear, the battles in Brothers In Arms, and a bunch of small moments throughout the series are wonderful for this.

I could write an essay about Otto and Gibson, and someone else already has, but I’ll summarize it as ADHD autism solidarity with a side of Shut The Fuck Up Gibson. They care about each other and learn to respect each other in a way that’s better for both of them. I know a real-life Gibson to my Otto and learning that she’s just pretentious and doesn’t really hate anyone, and figuring out that we’re both equally brilliant and incredibly similar has made life a million times better.

Otto and Sparx don’t have as much development as Gibson with both of them, but their jokes together and general trust is amazing. Sparx is the dumb monkey and Otto supports him in his himbo endeavors.

These three together make an unstoppable technical team, and the only reason they probably couldn’t be a superhero team on their own is because of the raw power and fun dynamics brought by the other half of the team.

Romantically, these three would make the DUMBEST polycule ever. There is no true mediator here. It’s three dumbasses figuring out how they could possibly share a twin-sized bed when they have the ability to just make a bigger bed. Gibson calculates the most efficient 3 monkey makeout and none of them follow the statistics. They all give Chiro equally useless and conflicting advice on homework. Trying to give them a mediator in the polycule just makes me go back to shipping polymonkeys because I literally can’t decide if Antauri or Nova go better with them.

2. Quiet trust and encouragement

Characters: Otto, Antauri

Type: Platonic, Romantic

Explanation: When Otto is being dismissed by the other monkeys, or by the show itself, Antauri is usually the first to say “that’s bullshit, Otto is wonderful”. Circus Of Ooze is a notable example, but there are little moments in other seasons as well.

I just love the idea of the historically MOST SERIOUS and strongest monkey, sometimes even elevated to god-like status by some fanworks... paired with the monkey that has been infantilized and disrespected to no end. I personally like making Antauri have to lean on Otto, just to subvert that even further.

Beyond spite, I ship this simply because I like their dynamic. Antauri needs someone to ground him with more tactile physical things, and Otto needs someone to share his more nebulous thoughts I can’t imagine the others listening to. I love them.

Also, I want Antauri to unlock his true dumbass potential. He has the abilities, but not the will. Be silly with Otto. I want to hear him snort-laugh.

I literally forgot all the silver monkey stuff but I got three fics about that you know I go nuts over mechanic x robot shit.

3. The monkeys and their human son.

Characters: Chiro, Antauri, Nova, Sparx, Gibson, Otto

Type: Familial

Explanation: This family gives me joy. They were forced together through astronomical means and they made the best of it.

Everyone living in the robot is absolutely fucked up. They help each other in the darkest of times. They lift each other up when it’s light. They are a perfect team and nobody can be missing without it feeling wrong. But they can add people!

“Girl Trouble” as a concept is AMAZING to me but my secondhand embarrassment is so strong that I hate the episode. But never once is any of the monkeys resentful of Chiro. Not even Mandarin is like “wow I wish he didn’t take my place” no he’s also struck with the urge to nurture this kid to his fullest potential. Whether you see the team as a bunch of older siblings or 4 dads and a mom doesn’t really matter, they’re a family.

I mean, this also has a sprinkling of shipping all the monkeys in a really domestic way because I like seeing my optimal future in characters I like, but like literally all of these, it doesn’t need to be romantic for me to go nuts. I just think it would be fun to throw just a big monkey wedding or whatever. And funnier for Antauri to go “Chiro I’m having a baby. The baby is you” and holding up adoption papers because on the principle of Toby “Radiation” Fox I love that joke, especially when made much less weird than the original context.

I have a set of characters who is just 5 people in a polycule raising kids and living life because I really love this concept as a family.

4. Evil Coworkers

Characters: Mandarin, Sakko

Type: Romantic, Platonic,

Explanation: Why the hell are these two, in particular, working together? SK could’ve put Mandarin with literally anybody else and he chose what on the surface appears to be the LEAST compatible person on the account that they’re both monkeys. Some bitter asshole who now looks like the epitome of toxic masculinity and this tiny pink pet who used his femininity both as an advantage and a style. They’re different but it ends up working really well for both of them because they’re different in ways that cover each other’s bases. It’s wonderful. Pink and Orange go well together. Green and Purple go well together. Mandarin and Sakko go well together. Also, they clearly trust each other. During almost the entirety of “Hidden Fortress” Sakko was presumably just chilling inside of Mandarin’s armor. Mandarin trusted him enough to have Sakko in a place where he’s able to mess with his cybernetics, and Sakko trusted Mandarin enough to go into the battlefield with him and probably get tossed around.

If they were both human and in a more modern media, then they would definitely be shipped in the straightest way you can get without actually being straight. The Straightest Gay Ship.

5. A Witch and her Accidental Evil Coworker

Characters: Skelemandarin, Valeena.

Type: Platonic, Romantic,

Explanation: These two have been through some shit. Skelemandy was made to serve Skeleton King only to have that purpose yanked away from him. Valeena was groomed to idolize and serve Skeleton King for nearly her entire life. They were forced together by SHEER CHANCE and they both hated it. Arguably they both died at some point.

They both have absolutely NOBODY they can trust so let’s make them trust each other. All hilarity and sweetness comes from that.

Their dynamic is so good that I have them on a blog for a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FANDOM and people love them with no context.

This is the only cross-species ship I have (besides chinmay and the antauri ships but that doesn’t count), but the fact that Skelemandy isn’t actually a monkey and needs no cybernetic assistance to be human-level sentient makes it a lot less weird. Just put them on equal ground power-wise (like by nerfing Valeena’s magic) and you have the ingredients for bonding.

They have like, no cute moments in canon, but that’s why we have fics and art. They have potential. I want them to help each other figure out who they are without their purpose. I want them to survive this horrible life together. I want them to figure out how to trust again. I want a lot but Valeena is fucking dead.

But she doesn’t have to be.

(Also Valeena is REALLY HOT and Skelemandarin is just me as a monkey)

6. Gay Dads

Characters: The Alchemist, Captain Shuggazoom

Type: Romantic, Platonic

Explanation: Oh my stars. Oh null. Oh me oh my hhougfhfakjghf. These two have the angst of Mantauri but on crack.

They only appeared in about two episodes each and all three episodes are top tier. They call each other “Friend” multiple times in their shared episode. THEY’RE FRIENDS!!!!!!!!! The face Al makes when he realizes that Cap is visiting makes me really happy. The fact that Cap had this whole Batman Double Life thing and he shows the Alchemist BOTH OF THEM is amazing. The alchemist is a hermit living in the woods and he lets Cap into that life.

There isn’t a lot shown, much less than everything else here. But that makes every single fanfic so much richer since they’re almost completely based on headcanons. Friends who have a mutual crush on each other but are No Homo about it? Secret boyfriends? Husbands with 6 monkey kids? An Old man and a grumpy Skeleton making it work? Literally just platonic friends? Dude, you can do whatever you want.

The tragedy of these two losing each other to one big horrible event crushes me. It influences my every move in my creative work. I have an entire character dedicated to reuniting these two in the most astronomical and ridiculous way possible because the alchemist angered the gods but she thinks he needs some company in his eternal punishment.

I want Clayton to unlock Al’s less serious, more fun side. I want them to work together. I want them to hold hands. GHGHGHDFBG UTTHTYE CNAZSNT EBCV ASUA ER

7. The girl power duo

Characters: Nova, Jinmay

Type: Familial

Explanation: These two were my only comfort during the uncomfortable nightmare that is “The Hills Have Five”

Nova was the one who trained Jinmay, and it seems like they hang out a lot offscreen in season 4. They fulfill the early 2000′s cartoon archetypes of girl and Girl, so they’re supposed to get along. If they didn’t I probably wouldn’t like Jinmay.

Nova is a really good big sister/parental figure to Jinmay, who never had any family to speak of.

Anyway, this entry has to be shorter because most of their bonding is in “The Hills Have Five” which is either #1 or #2 in my least favorite episode list. Not because it’s bad, but because it makes me viscerally uncomfortable. I really wish literally any other character than Jinmay was in her role in that episode. Or that the “taken to an offscreen area by an adult man while she screams” just wasn’t there. SHE’S 13!!! Nova did literally all she could to help.

I really like that scene in questionable where Valeena kills almost the entire gang. It’s what they deserve.

Look I just really like Jinmay and I always have. She deserves a good Mom.

8. "My Second In Command”

Characters: Antauri, Mandarin

Type: Theoretical

Explanation: The fandom has really made this ship go from “literally nothing to stand on” to “integral plot point in a lot of fics”. Seriously. I have TWO screenshots that vaguely imply these two ever stood next to each other on the battlefield. This was entirely title-based and fan-made until ProjectAfectivity interviewed Ciro. Yeah he knows Antauri but only as well as the rest of the team. Anyway. Wow. This ship.

This is by far the worst breakup in history. These two, despite what Antauri says, were on equal ground at some point. According to Ciro (and fan speculation), they trained together. This (and other Mandy ship) changes wildly depending on if you think Mandarin was corrupted by the portal or not. Maybe Mandarin was once a kind leader who just crossed the wrong boundaries and paid for it. He could’ve held Antauri gently before battle. He could’ve been the monkey Antauri went to when he needed someone to talk to. He could’ve hyped the team up like Chiro does.

Or maybe, they were constantly fighting against each other in small ways. An incredibly unhealthy relationship, yes, but an interesting story. I like stories where Antauri isn’t this all-knowing pillar of stability. He’s got weaknesses. One of them may have been Mandarin.

Now that’s a good nickname from one to the other.

Imagine Antauri, in a moment of complete trust, declaring Mandarin his weakness. A sweet sentiment. They both know the other is incredibly strong, and trust that the other would never take advantage of that connection. They love each other. Until...

9. "My Closest Ally”

Characters: Otto, Mandarin

Type: Theoretical

Explanation: Okay I'm looking at the screenshot I put for this entry while also having watched Evil Ages recently. My brain is making uncomfortable connections. Combine that with the fandom and the show’s general treatment of Otto and I’m about to slam my head into a wall. I really do not like that, but I feel like there’s somebody out there who does.

Anyway, this is Gibotto and Ottauri but with all the spice that shipping Mandarin with one of the other monkeys brings. When done well, it’s all the respecting Otto that comes with Ottauri and all the intimate partnership of Gibotto. And the Angst of Mantauri, but a lot more grounded.

It paints a lot of stories. A story of a single point of comfort in a world Mandarin thinks is out to get him. A story of powerful validation from the one authority in Otto’s life. Of letting your guard down. Of trust, then breaking that trust.

I’d LOVE to see some things with Mandottotauri because that’s epic and cool and poggers. Don’t see a lot, though.

10.The Hets, I guess.

Characters: Jinmay, Chiro.

Type: Romantic. Platonic. Canon.

Explanation: Look two entries on this list are polyamorous and four of them are mandarin so I have to say SOMETHING for the heteroes following me. Picked this ship over Spova because when I was a young child still suffering from comphet, I never watched the last episode of the show. I only saw up to season 3 at the most. This was the only canon ship for me. And out of all the ships, it’s the most relatable. I’m currently a teenager with black hair who looks really good in eyeliner dating a girl with pink hair who can pick me up and is unbelievably sweet. Except we’re gay and polyam. Wait a second I totally had a crush on Jinmay as a kid and now my gf is the Jinmay in this situation. Oh my god I was going to make this comparison if I did Spova too and I liked Nova.

ANYWAY

These are two LONELY kids. Chiro had bullies during school, and now he doesn’t even go to school. Jinmay hasn’t really had friends at all. Two kids with places in their universe that they aren’t too sure about, and just need someone to lean on. Their date was cute. They instantly bonded over their love of monkeys and I love that.

The super robot is sometimes an analog for Chiro, in the first two season at least, and the way the super robot held Jinmay’s hands to keep her steady on the COB while her head flew in was SO SWEET. Chiro’s instant recognition and reaction to Jinmay’s head being thrown at the team, as well. He really loves her.

I think it’d be interesting if she didn’t love him back, though. I might take a stab at writing that.

"am i rlly neurodivergent do i rlly have adhd or am i faking it because i am a lazy piece of shit who can't focus" and then i experience the executive dysfunction and the depressive spirals and the Pain Noises and the rsd and the hyperfixations and the trouble sleeping and the Brain Won't Shut Up Times and the gifted kid burnout and the Bad Textures and the Good Textures and the rapid mood swings and the bullying in middle school and the impulse buying and the forgetting everything important and the sudden desires to schedule my entire life at 3am and the inability to stick to said schedules and the auditory processing issues and the difficulty regulating emotions and the "all my friends hate me" syndrome and the intrusive thoughts and the ability to write huge long blocks of text but not read said blocks of text and the trouble with social cues and the relating to almost every adhd experience i read/hear about and the rainbow tv static brain and the overanalysis of literally anything anyone has ever said to me and the autism/adhd solidarity and the reading messages via notifications but not responding for hours and the writing this giant fucking paragraph about adhd instead of getting off my ass and putting some proper clothes on and working like a good little neurotypical student who can actually do these things

8, and also custom question: how does adhd affect your autism and vice versa? did you struggle to get a diagnosis with one because you already had a diagnosis on the other and there’s a belief they can’t be comorbid?

8: when did you know you had ADHD? Honestly, it wasn’t until after I’d met Vinny and learned more about ADHD through spending time with and talking to him that I realized how much what he had sounded like what I had (especially when it came to school; I was fine in highschool but I eventually had to drop out of college). For a long time ADHD/autism solidarity memes were often shared between us because there’s so many similarities between the two I didn’t think I had both, which sort of answers your next question; How does adhd affect your autism and vice versa? Honestly this one’s hard to answer because sometimes I genuinely don’t know which symptom’s an autism thing, an ADHD thing, or both. For example, I have little filter and tend to say whatever I’m thinking or feeling, I often go on and on about things that interest/excite me, and I tend to be way louder to everyone else than I think I am. For the longest time, I was certain those were only autism things, but literally just the other day I found out the loud voice thing is an ADHD thing? Also, both come with executive dysfunction. And autism makes it hard to understand what people are trying to say sometimes, coupled with RSD from ADHD and talking to people I love can be hellish at times. My autism made me learn to socialize the hard way, which led to me being super quiet as a kid, and these days meeting new people feels like a fight between my autism (wanting to be quiet, to listen, observe, and not be Weird TM) and my ADHD (wanting to talk So Much, also changing the subject all the time). Did you struggle to get a diagnosis with one because you already had a diagnosis on the other and there’s a belief they can’t be comorbid? Getting a diagnosis for literally anything besides a UTI is hard for me because I’m fat and ‘female presenting’ (as a friend put it lol)(also example, it took me a whole year of blood tests and attempting to lose weight before a doc would finally give me birth control once they accepted that my irregular periods WEREN’T a symptom of being fat). I was almost 23 (I’m still 23 now) when I finally got a psychiatrist over a Skype call to tell me that yes, I have ADHD. Even then, he didn’t want to deal with it and just gave me antidepressants, and I still haven’t actually gotten any treatment for it. Don’t have any evidence of this diagnosis either, and I doubt I could get another psychiatrist to diagnose me anytime soon. This was after meeting with several counsellors over the years and two other psychiatrists, getting diagnosed with everything from generalized anxiety disorder to bipolar disorder (I remember one psychiatrist diagnosed me with like... seven different ‘potential’ disorders and ADHD wasn’t even one of them lmao). I still don’t have an ‘official diagnosis’ for my autism, just a couple ‘possibly autistic’. Whenever I try to bring it up, psychiatrists and counsellors just dance around the subject until I stop talking about it. Nobody wants to address it, and in my experience most find treating anxiety/depression alone to be a comfort zone; easy to diagnose, treat, and monitor (I’m not a doctor myself obviously, this is just the conclusion I’ve come to after so, so many appointments). I don’t think it’s worth bringing up anymore; a diagnosis would do nothing but possibly (unlikely) net me some disability checks and maybe make me lose a few more rights (not 100% sure how bad it is here in Canada and I’m not keen to find out). Also, I wasn’t even aware of that belief. That’s dumb as hell lmao. I genuinely can’t imagine not having both at once, they’re both like... almost integral to each other for me if that makes sense? Might be because I often get them so mixed up lmao but without them how else would I be so in love with my interests and also just annoying enough that I only really surround myself with patient, understanding, compassionate people? How else would I have been so distant from my peers that I focused on schoolwork and did well enough to be on the honour roll only to suddenly fail as soon as I came out of my shell enough to not fixate on classes? Autism and ADHD both equally make me what I am, for better or worse.
