american-ashkenazi jewish food poll!
i had said in the tags of one of my other posts that a good way to break jewish stereotypes and antisemitism away from the current. political situation is to uplift diaspora jewish culture and so!! starting off with an american-ashkenazi food poll! i am american-ashkenazi and this is the food i ate growing up. some ashkenazi food is gross so this is the only good one (fwiw i dont support the israeli govt and if i see any support on my blog thats a block <3) (also if i see discourse in the comments ur speaking privileges are revoked.)

The whole transandrophobia discussion thing is weird bc it feels like it's a bunch of poc and jewish trans people being like "here are my experiences of how specifically being MASCULINE had affected me, and the discrimination and violence I experienced based on that. And here is how that relates to me being a racial/ethnic minority"
And then a few loud white trans people going "ohhh you wanna be oppressed so bad you *slur*. This is why there aren't any poc in your movement it's because REAL poc understand intersectionality"
#hot take white culturally christian or athiest leftests do not properly interpret white jewish ppl#like as a poc i and other poc understand that white jewish ppl often get racial privilege#but a) not always b) they experience oppression based off of their ethnicity#idk from my perspective it seems like white goyim either see jewish ppl as 'the disgusting exotic enemy' or 'basically WASPS but they#wanna feel special'#with no nuance. no recognition#look maybe this next part is bc i didnt grow up with jewish ppl and therefore didnt know until I was 18/19 that jewish ppl can count as#white. but like. idk how to say this. i dont wanna speak over white jewish ppl. but like.#jewish ppl that have obvious jewish features (whether Ashkenazi facial features OR they dont have those but wear eg kippahs)#arent like. white. idk pls correct me if this is antisemitic or incorrect or something.#but like. light skinned =/= white obviously.#i just struggle to see how my bestfriend with her lovely dark eyes and curls and nice nose counts as 'white' when ppl call her the k slur#across the street. ykwim?#like white doesnt mean light skinned. it means 'part of the in-group of white ppl'#like my ex who is white and jewish? yeah hes white. if he didnt wear his necklace then goyim wouldnt know. you know#like obvs he still experiences ethnic oppression but he doesnt experience racial oppression#but other ppl with more prominent eg ashkenazi (im singling them out bc most jewish ppl here are ash.) like i dont GET how they have racial#privilege.

Listen I have no problem with Erik being visibly not white in fanfics and fanworks (well, no problem with his skin colour but more so what it implies; If your reasoning for headcanoning him as Black or Romani or Mizrahi or whatever else have something to do with oppression - I.E. antisemitism doesn’t exist enough in the modern world for your bullshit plot or you think you’re taking some power back from the oppressors - I want you to think for a second about your own inability to emphasise with Jewish people if they don’t look or act how you want them to. However, if you just don’t want Wanda and Pietro whitewashed regardless of who their other parent is in your AU or want Erik to look like you or just cause you think it’s fun - go ahead, I’m cheering you on) but it truly baffles me to see a non white Erik act like an Ashkenazi Jew from then on. That’s like dividing by zero in a calculator - stupid and ultimately pointless. Plus, you basically culturally whitewashed him. I’m all for non-white Erik but if you do that and lazy around about the differences in Romani Jewish and Mizrahi Jewish customs you might as well just stay home or draw him white because what was even the point?

I love going to a Jewish deli because I'm like "man I've been sitting at this table really taking my time to eat this sandwich because it's big and I dont want to make myself sick, and im having a nice time relaxing I hope I'm not taking to long" (it's been like 45 minute), and then I look over and there are two 75 year old zaydes who were already on their second desert course when I got there and still have at least an hour to go and are deep in conversation that could last for several days and im like "oh I'm fine."

Sometimes I think about how some of my great grandparents probably spoke German and now all the German I know is from books about the holocaust … that’s the German legacy!
Meanwhile I may not be fluent in Yiddish but I speak an American English dialect that incorporates lots of Yiddish into the every day speech - because that’s our actual culture, worth passing on.

People discussing Israel's racist policies and Israel's policy of fucking over non Rabbinic communities and fucking up the transmission of diaspora cultures (such as the teaching of languages) is not the time to go "we don't need gentiles in our intracommunity politics". Foundational to Israel is "maintaining a Jewish majority". These communities are attacked in lathe part because they are seen as not being as Jewish as White, Ashkie, Western European Jews (with respect to how Eastern European Jews are also often mistreated), or their Judaism is otherwise seen as deficient. The maintenance of this majority is also why Palestinians generally, cannot really get an Israeli citizenship, even if they wanted to, and sometimes even if they can prove they are of Jewish descent. "Who is a Jew and what is a Jewish culture" is a constructed boundary: for the past 70 odd years it has been a boundary used for violence. If you want anti-zionists to have politics informed by the needs of Jews, they must be party to these discussions.
#cipher talk#Also seeing a post like 'talking about racism in Israel feels bad bc it casts Ashkenazim as evil elites imo'#(Person saying this WAS white AFAIK and that's very funny given not all Ashkenazim are white- and most posts I've seen#Are made by Jews or POC focusing on whiteness more than 'Ashkienormativity')#Then seeing a post like 'I don't believe you care about Yiddish if you only use it to attack Hebrew >:(' is nuts#Which is it do 'gentiles' care too much about Ashkenazi culture and use it as a weapon or do they pick on them as the acceptable group of#'Bad jews' (as people like to put it)?#And ngl any white person pulling this right now definitely doesn't care that much about JOC normally. If they did they'd let them say when#They're uncomfortable lmao because thar is the point of reference you need when discussing racism here#Otherwise you're just doing the 'white person shuts down conversation about racism because they feel upset' thing that everyone does#Including gentiles. Including gentiles who belong to groups (like white Latinos white Irish and Scottish people etc) who have faced#Marginalisation discrimination and genocide#And if you as a white person aren't doing that that tells me you either don't care to pay attention or you don't talk to JOC#So you don't know when JOC are actually uncomfortable and a lime is being crossed#And that's pretty bad because there's quite a few Mizrahim who are aggressive Zionists lmao and would love for you to use them as shield
