Introductory

From as far back as I could remember, music brought me joy. In my later years, as a teenager, I found a love for writing. Today, as a young adult, I’m using the only two useful skills I was given in life to bring inspiration and creativity to those around me.  Today, I’m an aspiring author and a published photographer. Today, I am inspiring the people around me to do better, to support their communities, and do it... Today. 

This is me. Photographing one of the bands that changed my entire life; Beartooth. To top off this life changing and full circle moment, the photos I did that night were perhaps some of the BEST photos I had ever done. I have worked for bands such as Ice Nine Kills, blessthefall, and Smile Empty Soul. However, I do loads of work with the local artists in my local music scene. After COVID had shut everything down, artists were struggling. For a lot, this was their livelihood, but for many this was a way of life. Whether they made money or not from these small town shows, music is a passion, a way of life, and an escape from life all at the same time. I partnered with a small promotion to help bring the local music scene back to life. Step by step, it’s getting there. Together, we helped promote bands, book shows, and get the cogs going again. Sure, they needed some greasing, but the music scene is coming back stronger and better than ever.

 On top of getting a better footing with photography, I began writing more. I created goals for myself, promises to get rough drafts done and to be fully published by the end of 2023. I have a lot of other goals set with my loving fiancé, such as starting our food truck. This is something we both hope to one day build into owning a music venue. There’s only so much planning and goal setting a person can do before it becomes pointless. You have to work for these goals as you set them. If you aren’t accomplishing anything, then what’s the point? There isn’t one. 

You have to work today to get something accomplished tomorrow. 

I hope everybody finds a goal in life to strive for, that give’s them a spark and a purpose. No goal is too small or too big for you to achieve, you have to believe you can do it and then send it.

The world moves too fast now for anyone to get to the levels of Julia and George in the 90s/early 2000s....now you can literally be hot on Monday and not on Tuesday. The markets are oversaturated and social media has literally changed the world now people literally know every single thing there is to know about you within 30 minutes of you appearing in public and before people had years to get to know and love someone now everyone moves too fast to Carr and if they don't like you now then it's OK cos their is 30 other people exactly like you for them to choose from.

I also think Meghan has overplayed her hand too many times and she the fact she doesn't have a specific demographic to cater to either hurts her and any brand she's trying to build she's too old for the TikTok crowd she's too young and common for the NYC old money society crowds she's not talented or famous enough for Hollywood she literally doesn't have a single space she can occupy even the oh I'm famous cos I married someone famous club is ram packed and the only difference she had was she married royalty but now he's not even royalty he's 3rd row Harry on a commercial flight home and hour later.

She really put a lot into her "The Duchess/Duchess Meghan brand in the 2 or so years she was a royal and then spent the next 3 years completely smashing it to shreds....like why should we care that she's royal if being royal is as awful as she says it is?

Even the mom and baby club is full and it's full of people who actually show their kids 🙈 celebrity lifestyle and wellness?? Full and with people whi project an aspirational lifestyle....do you want to be like the 40 year old ex actress who spends her whole life fighting with her family and suing the press? Nope...me neither.

If she had spent the last 3 years building her own brand instead of trying to tear down the RFs she might be in better shape.

Even the divorce is gonna go against her IMO cos people genuinely just don't like her, she's not authentic and people can spot she's a fake a mile off, that's why the sugars and her PR attack Kate so much Kate is the real deal, anyone with half a brain cell can tell she was born to do this in fact she does it better than most of the people who were born to do this but Kate also knows this takes work she has honed her skills for over 2 decades..... Meghan is too petty, juvenile and lazy to do that or anything close to it.

I don't see WME being a game changer for her either, she loves attaching herself to big brands and names cos it makes her feel important but she doesn't have any follow through and nothing comes of it, have you ever heard of the sadim touch? It's the opposite to the midas touch and that's what she has. I know we all like to joke but she literally turned a prince into a pauper, he was the most popular royal (even more popular than the monarch) and now he's known as the frozen todger guy sitting in the nosebleeds at his fathers coronation 🙈

I agree with you generally, but I think she a window. The royal connection (tenuous as it is right now) is valuable and it differentiates her. Also, the “feminist princess” brand the palace built for her is still compelling. They did a great job for her there. The “royal Rachel Zane” persona would still sell.

WME can’t do miracles, but they can get her a guest spot in The View. They can’t get her a job, but they can get her a guest spot, particularly if she delivers a second season of Archetypes that is not seven episodes of narcissism. She can go on Drew’s show. She can get the ghostwriter to write her a bestselling memoir that is not just cringe bitching about her family. She can get someone talented to write her a few good essays for Time. If she’s smart and she works hard she can do it. If she’s super smart and she divorces him, she has an even better chance of sound it.

But that’s the problem. She’s not smart and she doesn’t work hard. She’s going to buy herself some awards, do some random passive aggressive bitching, pose for a few paps, and call it a day. So, in the end, it’s not going to work out for her.

As democracy faces a growing assault around the world, South Korea is emerging as a country that is uniquely positioned to help lead a global democratic renewal. When Seoul held the 1988 Summer Olympics, it helped introduce South Korea to the world as a modern nation. Hosting the third Summit for Democracy this week reflects South Korea’s new ambition to support the expansion of freedom around the world, especially in the Indo-Pacific and in the global south.

South Korea’s transformation from devastation after the Korean War to economic powerhouse has inspired many developing countries. Successive Korean administrations have focused on economic development at home while maintaining an alliance with the United States and managing relations with regional powers to keep the peace on the Korean peninsula. But now Seoul is aiming higher: South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has written that he sees his country as a “global pivotal state,” taking on a bigger role in “expanding freedom and human rights, not just for ourselves, but also for others.”

Many people in the global south resist the idea of a world in which they must choose between the United States and China. In this sense, the Korean model is one to emulate: a non-Western country that has achieved economic development coupled with growing political and societal liberalization at home while navigating great power politics. As the need for global democratic solidarity grows more urgent, South Korea’s stepping up to host the Summit for Democracy underscores the important role that non-Western democracies have to play on the global stage.

South Korea has growing soft power, and the emergence of Korean pop culture as a global phenomenon (known as Hallyu, or the Korean Wave), along with South Korea’s technological prowess, can help its aspirations on the world stage. South Korea’s open society has enabled the production of both cultural and technological innovations that shape the daily life of so many people around the world. The unprecedented global reach of K-pop and K-dramas have shown the world the lifestyle attainable in today’s South Korea, and global consumers likely view the country’s freedoms positively.

Half of the world’s countries have seen a decline in at least one democracy indicator in the last five years, as measured by the Global State of Democracy Initiative. Meanwhile, authoritarian powers are learning from and supporting one another and using the international system to their advantage. Democratic leaders must take the initiative in revitalizing a global order that upholds people’s freedoms. And for democracy to thrive globally, governments beyond the United States and Europe must play a leading role in supporting it.

Yoon has warned that the “freedom and democracy we have built through sweat and sacrifice are being seriously undermined around the world and faced with grave challenges.” The Summit for Democracy provides an opportunity to demonstrate that democracies are united in defending democracy together. As host, South Korea sends a strong signal to those who continue to dismiss democracy as Western and therefore incompatible with other values. For countries that want to avoid taking sides amid global tensions, South Korea’s leadership can navigate these shoals.

South Korea’s own trajectory resonates with democracy advocates in the global south. The Korean people challenged their dictatorship in 1987 and peacefully transitioned the country to a liberal democracy. This “homegrown democracy” has enabled Seoul to flourish in economic development and innovation by ensuring the rule of law, protections of property rights, and fostering the freedom of expression so crucial to creative industries—fueling the Korean Wave. All of this makes the country’s choice to host the summit a potential game changer.

South Korea can show that although the path to democracy is context-specific, the values and institutions that sustain it—free speech, free markets, and political competition—are universal. In addition to the Summit for Democracy, Seoul will host other important meetings related to digital governance and artificial intelligence this year, including the Global AI Forum in May and the AI Summit Seoul in December. As Yoon has argued, “[W]e, as free citizens of the world, must unite in solidarity to stave off any misuse or any abuse of digital technology that could undermine our freedom.”

This week, South Korea has an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to democratic solidarity and articulate how it will intensify its support for democracy around the world. It should leverage its soft power to do so. By showcasing South Korea’s digital innovation and culture, made possible by such values as freedom of expression, the country can achieve outsized impact in making a case for democracy everywhere, not just in the West.

The countries that have been at the frontlines of democratic leadership should now help South Korea to play a leading role in strengthening global democratic infrastructure. This means using the Summit for Democracy to make clear to the Korean people and government that the world welcomes their ambition and expects the summit to translate these aspirations into action. South Korea will find its own pathway to regional and global leadership, and other democracies can provide valuable partnership along the way.

South Korea is already an impressive democracy and vibrant market economy. It can build on these achievements to emerge as a global democratic leader. One day, the Korean Wave may be known not only for its cultural capital, but also for spurring a more democratic future.

I have a question about how to feel young and youthful? Unfortunately due to trauma of my past and adultifcation (I began taking care of my mom at 17 due to medical reasons she has)- I feel old.

I’m nearly 26 and I can’t connect to people my age because I had to grow up fast and I’m mentally so much older and mature than most people my age. Because of this I get so sad and frustrated.

I try everything to try and connect with people my age but they either don’t want to hang out with me because of my responsibilities (I still take care of her and sometimes I am not available to hang out). And those old friends would mock me for taking care of my mom or throw it in my face that I have too much I’m dealing with. They have little to no responsibilities so I’m left by myself. I noticed a pattern.

So now I just FEEL old.

I don’t know what I can do to get genuine friendships for my situation (maybe having older friends— mid late twenties etc). Or maybe it’s the spaces I’m in? I want to travel and be around more like minded ambitious people for my field of work (journalism/events).

I also want to feel young, like my age. Idk what I would have to do activity wise or etc. I’m at a lost and so depressed.

I go to work and I’m the oldest cause it’s summer jobs and I’m surrounded by 15- 20 year olds and I chat and I’m nice but I can’t connect like that and they don’t with me.

I always knew something was different about me because of my trauma and what it’s done.

As a fellow parentified child/teen in the same age bracket, I empathize with you regarding how to feel young, youthful, and feeling our age. For context, most of my friends tell me they think of me as their mid-30s-something friend (lol), so I know the feeling of being jaded and overly deliberate with your time, energy, and actions. If these people are in their mid-20s, it honestly says more about them than you that they're judging or resorting to mocking the fact you take your responsibilities seriously. So many people our age have full-time jobs, households to run (single, in a relationship, even married with kids), and all of the logistics that come with being an adult – albeit being in the "young person" category. These people sound immature for their age, honestly.

I would say the best ways I've found to feel a bit younger and more youthful include:

Taking time to let loose and enjoy the moment

Dancing around in your room without a care in the world

Engaging in some child-like activities you enjoy such as drawing, painting, or pottery

Having a fun and dynamic dating life

Going out for fun dinners, drinks, lunch, or coffee dates

Taking a workout or dance class

Strolling around the streets with fun music and an iced coffee

Going to a dog park or playing with friends/families' animals, etc.

Consider how much of an advantage we have when choosing to indulge in these activities: We have the wisdom to deliberately and more strategically enjoy these pleasures rather than partake in these activities from an ignorant headspace, which can lead to more negative or potentially dangerous situations. Understanding that engaging in this carefree headspace at certain times is essential for your mental health reframed my perspective and was a game-changer in my happiness levels, honestly. I hope this insight invites a similar positive change for you as well.

Reconnect with your childhood dreams and aspirations. Consider how you can explore them now that you have the emotional maturity and legal freedoms of adulthood. It's never too late to make even the smallest steps to actualizing these dreams. For example, getting a stuffed animal that reminds you of the pet you always wanted growing up. It can be a healing, self-nourishing experience even if it sounds a bit silly on the surface.

For finding friends you connect with, I would say the late 20s/early 30s tends to be the sweet spot, too. Some ways I think are beneficial to connect with like-minded people in this mid-20s-early 30s age group with similar goals are to:

Go to meetups, events, panels, exhibits, etc. pertaining to your current/desired field and interests

Join clubs and take classes/workshops in your areas of interest. Go to the same workout studios/art workshops/coffee shops/bars, nail salons, etc. you love regularly. Seeing familiar faces often will invite you both to eventually strike up a conversation – you already know you have something in common

Network both in IRL through events/people you meet and even on LinkedIn to see if you can invite people for informational interviews/informal coffee chats (either in person or over a video call). It's a win-win situation because you both get to expand your networks and sometimes, you just click!

you may know me from my 1920s-inspired theater with an interdimensional portal in the belly of the stage wip, The Great Glavenisean Theater, or my very strange giant tree wip, In The Deep of the Trees featuring Titus and Sabine. if you’re an oldie (circa 2018-2020), you might recall Bloodlines, a romantic high fantasy featuring original species, the Gelkins and the skin-changers. my other wips include the aforementioned space fairytale, Star White, a queer fucked up found family epic with trans wizards and missing gods called Solene’s Verse, and a very experimental novella about the worst walking roadtrip known to mankind (i accidentally blow up your village and kill your girlfriend, you get an existential crisis about the nature of reality), aka The Wasteland. 

i will continue to spruce up this space with wip intros as i refurbish everything, but my main focus right now is finishing the first draft of The Great Glavenisean Theater. i do aspire toward traditional publishing, and have had an eye on this industry for twelve years (i was actively querying at fourteen, we’re in this writing shit for life)
