Translator's note: A "gestalt collapse" refers to a Japanese psychological phenomenon where if one looks at some kanji for too long, they might start seeing it only as its components and not the entire character. In this case, Auster has seen so many different types of Kiefers that he can't see the normal Kiefer as a "whole" anymore. He just sees the facets of all the other Kiefers he was shown.

Summary: What is he doing, this obscure apparition of the night? And, more to the point, what is he? - Yuugi stands on the threshold of the night, waiting for something to save him.

Comments: It's hard to describe this fic. There's a slipstream quality to it, part because of how it slips between Yami and Yugi's POV, and part because of Yugi's identity as a dying god. He's different seeing roads as rivers, changing things around him, living between and in multiple dimensions, and as Yami has gotten to know him Yami changes too. More likely to see. More likely to hear things he wouldn't have. There's this edge to their romance too - Yugi not quite knowing what it is, Yami very much knowing but uncertain about the details of crushing on a god and what that means for the future.
