#1 on both lists for the crackiest Lin ship you ship (you tell us what that is)
This has been on my mind for a while now because I can't choose from the sheer number of crackiest Lin ships I have in store lol. I'm probably going to get hate for this, but just for the drama I'm going to go with Linaar: Lin x Bataar Sr.
1)Dating headcanon: Bataar brings a candle, spicy noodles along with some sake to Lin's chambers when she's visiting Zaofu. He obviously wants to keep things on the down low. He is charmed by and attracted to Lin's mind and body and he can't help but just get some one-on-one time with her: even if he's doing it behind his wife's back in their own home. They also take day-long short trips to the more remote parts of the Earth kingdom for privacy to avoid arising any suspicion.
NSFW:
1)Positions/locations headcanon: How fun would it be to have them have sex on Suyin and Bataar's marital bed lmao. No, but maybe Lin's apartment, her chambers in Zaofu, or Bataar's parents' place in the Earth Kingdom. Bataar likes to watch her as he fucks her; his favorite position has always been missionary. Lin likes to ride his face while he's lying down on the bed.
Ask me about my headcanons!

i just want lin to be close to her niblings. like opal coming over for dinner weekly (sometimes with the krew), the twins teaching her to play power disk, discussing art techniques and history with huan, finding an understanding with bataar. forming an unspoken pact with bataar sr to keep the peace in the family and look after the kids when she can. maybe they all show up on her doorstep one night when they just rly need to get away from suyin and zoufu. i want lin to be happy with her family the end

Beifongs giving gifts
Toph: a heart made of metal
Reason: she said it's her heart and she's giving you her heart because she loves you so much
Lin: a bracelet
Reason: something plain, she's a plain gift giver
Suyin: something over the top
Reason: to show how much she loves you
Bataar senior: a room made just for you
Reason: a nice private place for you to relax since you've been so stressed
Bataar junior: your favorite food
Reason: he knows you like it so it's a safe option
Huan: whatever you want
Reason: he knows that you don't necessarily have the same likes as him so he gets you what you like
Wei: hoodie
Reason: to match him (he possessive)
Wing: necklace
Reason: another slightly possessive man, something that you wear everyday that everyone knows he gave you
Opal: an opal pendant
Reason: to remind you of her

i would have liked more on toph's relationship with her grandkids
wonder what she thought of bataar jr. (her first grandchild at that) and his involvement with kuvira and all the destruction in s 4 he helped create
just thoughts feel free to ignore
Oh, sweetie, you are so right! I would make a blood sacrifice to learn what Toph was with her grandkids!
In canon, we know she last saw Opal when Opal reached uo to her waist and that she travelled a lot. So I imagine she wasn't super close with them, but I can see her liking being around them to some extent. She's probably like the relative who appears suddenly, tells you the wildest stories and then dips.
Personally I don't think her relationship with Suyin was as perfect as Su and her would say it is. We also see that she dislikes Baatar Sr for some reason? So I can see a slight bit of tension in that household.
Personally, I think Baatar Jr is her least favourite grandchild. He's a nonbender and a nerd. I think he may dislike her a little bit too.
I've loved the idea of Huan making staues out of metal because that's a medium his blind grandmother can interact with and enjoy. Not that she's that much of an art person anyway but I think it means more to her than she lets on.
We see she seems to have a good relationship with Opal ans Opal says that Toph used to tell her stories. Opal also seems to have a hunger for adventure and the world outside Zaofu when we first meet her, so it does feel very in character for her to enjoy her grandma's stories.
I can imagine her getting along well with the twins, and the twins trying to imitate her and maybe this being the reason they're more focused on earthbending in its traditional, combative form.
As for the Earth Empire fiasco..
I think Toph would be very ashamed and angry at this. We see her berate Kuvira saying 'you guve metalbenders a bad name'. She's very protective of metalbending and seeing it used for evil must be very upsetting for this. Same with her grandson tainting her legacy and family name.
Also her seeing a lot of Ozai's actions performed by her own blood would probably shake her up.
I don't know if she'd feel hurt or betrayed perse, but definitely angry and very ashamed.
I definitely think she'd hold a big grudge towards Baatar Jr. I think she'd probably be very hostile and probably mostly give him very passively aggresive silent treatment. She might also isolate herself from the family even more after finding out they invited Kuvira and Baatar Jr back into the fold.
I wonder if seeing Suyin forgiving him for his actions almost immediately would make Toph reconsider how she immediately forgave Su after Su got involved with a triad.

I’m taking my shipper hat off for a moment to delve into an aspect of Kuvira’s personality that I would typically overlook since, admittedly, as common knowledge for anyone who has been following my blog for a while, I don’t care much for Kuvira’s and Bataar Jr.’s relationship beyond what pertains to the facts of her story. However, since I've been recently paying a closer look to her childhood by analyzing key moments of her upbringing that Ruins of the Empire provided, I think that the way those events shaped her personality may have led her to the choices we see her taking regarding her personal life. Given the parallels between Baatar Jr.'s parents and him and Kuvira, we can joke, saying that he might have chosen Kuvira as a romantic partner because of “mommy issues," but what about Kuvira? What if Kuvira's choice of Baatar as a partner reflects her own issues, specifically regarding her relationship with her father?  Did Kuvira choose Junior to compensate for the absence of a caring and loving father? Kuvira’s insecurities have been discussed at length before, but I think this is an angle worth exploring, so let’s see if this notion holds any water.
So I wondered if Kuvira’s traumatic experiences with her biological father may have impacted the traits she wished for in a romantic partner and if Junior fulfilled those traits. Before getting into the specifics, you may notice that I’m avoiding the term “daddy issues” because, after a quick search, I found out that there is no such psychological term but rather what she might experience could fall under attachment disorder.
So back to the topic at hand, if Kuvira’s traumatic experiences primed her to seek a partner to compensate for the absence of a healthy relationship with her father, perhaps what Junior brought to the table coincided with what she sought. It would’ve been difficult for Kuvira not to appreciate the unwavering way (to a fault) that Junior supported and believed in her, in stark contrast to the total loss of confidence her father had in her, manifested in her abandonment. This abandonment led her to crave stability, loyalty, and trust, and we can assume Baatar Jr. supplied all of these things in abundance by the way he talked about her to others and through his behavior. She wanted someone who would support and believe in her, something he had done since they left Zaofu, when he defied his mother's wishes and de facto elected Kuvira over his family. Ironically, it was Kuvira at the warehouse who ended up doing what she feared and abandoned Baatar Jr. via spirit weapon blast for her goal of uniting the EK.
In Zaofu, despite having been taken in by Suyin and her husband Baatar Sr., Kuvira lacked proper parental figures to replace the ones she lost since she never felt truly part of the family. It’s not a stretch to believe she yearned to relive the experience of feeling she belonged to a family in the proper sense, even if it was an imperfect one. Bonding with Junior could’ve been the next best thing, especially during the formative years of their adolescence, when they began noticing what Suyin did and said more closely, leading them to analyze her ideology and her actions, realizing that her words and her actions didn’t necessarily align when it didn’t suit her interests. It cannot be a coincidence that of all of Suyin’s children, the ones who wound up ideologically radicalized in the household were Junior and Kuvira, and I have my own theory as to why this happened. As the eldest children, they were allowed access to the day-to-day ins and outs of administering the city and were entrusted with important positions within the administration. They were part of Zaofu’s circle of trusted people (this can explain how they knew and were connected to the influential people who left with them when they deserted Zaofu). Baatar Jr. worked closely with his father on everything related to the city’s infrastructure. Kuvira, as guard captain, was a key component of the security forces safeguarding the city from internal and external threats. As far as we know, none of their other siblings were involved in any capacity in running the city like they did, so they had a privileged view of Suyin, not only as their mother but also as the administrator and political leader of Zaofu.
Tumblr media
I've posited before that either by conscious or unconscious choice, Kuvira emulated Suyin, and one of the ways she manifested this pattern was in the choice of Baatar Jr. as her romantic partner. He brought the built-in advantages of his knowledge and skills as an inventor and engineer to her grand plan, similar to Suyin and the skills that Baatar Sr. had, which allowed Zaofu to be the city Suyin envisioned. Kuvira wanted the same unwavering support Suyin had with her husband and also the ability to wield power without questioning as Su did, and Baatar Jr. provided this to Kuvira. This is not to say she didn't love him because I think she did, or at least she believed she did, since besides their bond growing up in Zaofu and developing similar ideologies, he provided the validation to counter the insecurity borne of her parental trauma, so it made it easier for her to develop feelings for him. She loved the way he validated her and her choices, and probably it was something she reciprocated since he had his own insecurities to deal with, so they became each other’s supporters, cheerleaders, and enablers. These aren't the things she might've actually needed from a partner, because we can assume that part of the unequivocal support he provided meant shielding her from accountability and from confronting her with the harsh truths of the dictatorship they led, something that in the end became a fatal flaw that affected both their relationship and their rule over the Earth Kingdom.
So, does this answer the original question? Kuvira’s trauma left an indelible mark on her psyche, so I think this could have predisposed her to seek and develop romantic feelings and attachment to someone who could make her feel validated and secure, and to me, Baatar Jr. fulfilled these needs for her. I’m not saying she didn’t have genuine romantic feelings towards him, but I do believe these factors weighed heavily on her choice because, for once in her life, she finally had someone who made her feel loved and cared for.

What does the krew think to mako calling wu "honey"? i think that they'd be freaked about by it, since to them their relationship came out of nowhere. also im pretty sure mako used to call korra that. ther ewas like one scene where he called her that but it was cringy to me because their whole relationship felt flat
Sooo not that I've thought about this much (that's a lie I've thought about this a lot) but Mako called Korra 'Sweetie' when they were together, and Asami called Mako 'Sweetie' when they were together. Sweetie was the only term of endearment in those situations.
Tenzin and Pema call each other 'Honey' and 'Dear', Pema calls Tenzin 'Sweetie', Bolin called Eska 'dear', Bataar Sr calls Suyin 'dear', Su calls Bataar Sr 'Sweetie', Bolin calls Opal 'Sweetie'.... I think those are the main examples of terms of endearment for couples...
So I thought about that a lot when I was landing on 'Honey' for Mako... I wondered if Sweetie would work because it would put his relationship with Wu on the same level as his prior relationships, thus giving it some validation or something??? Or a different name because his relationship with Wu is different and will actually last? I struggled to decide. My beta reader felt like Honey worked a little better and once I landed on it I liked it better too.
As far as how the Krew reacts... I think it's just kind of jarring at first! But after they hear it a handful of times no one thinks twice about it. Do Korra and Asami call each other anything in the comics??? I can't remember.

Highly Specific Ship Ranking
Ask for 'em all' and you shall receive - I made a spreadsheet that randomly pairs characters together and pulled some of my favourite random ass pairings.
Tenzin/The Council Page
Lieutenant/Pema
Varrick/Varrick (...it's not set up to exclude oneself lol)
Su's Chef/Varrick
Bataar Sr./Guo (The Acupuncturist)
have fun 😛
I love these so much. You’re awesome
Council Page/Tenzin
Oh, now this is some tea!
This is the guy who used to work for Tarrlok when on the council. Council page confiding in Tenzin… After hours office rendezvous
I’m intrigued
Verdict: They rented a room in my mind and are here to stay
Lieutenant/Pema
I think I’d need to be convinced more. Part of me is crushed with Lieu’s clearly undying love for Amon, but could we make this a throuple? Pema could have that calm healing energy for them or something. Balance out their… mess💀
Verdict: I need to see how I could make it work/Cute
Varrick/Varrick
This was hilarious and could be taken in several ways. Either Varrick is in a that self-contained relationship or he’s somehow figured a way to clone himself. In any case-
In theory? Yes.
In practice? No.
No one would get anything done in that relationship
Verdict: A trainwreck you can’t look away from
The chef/Varrick
Varrick with anyone is… challenging 😂 HOWEVER, I’m intrigued by the idea of the chef trying to swoon Varrick with his creations. The two of them bonding over dinner by stories of their lives that have gotten them to where they are…
Kale has never tasted better to Varrick
Verdict: Cute
Bataar Sr/Guo
Being an architect is hard work. Let alone of the lead of a city state as independent as Zaofu? Who else would be more fitting to get him to relax 😏
Sure Guo is skilled in metal bending, but I’m sure his hands are talented in another way
Verdict: Cute/I love them/They rented a room in my mind and are here to stay
Send me ships 🚢 🛶

One thing I loved figuring out when watching the Legend of Korra was figuring out who the father of Toph’s kid, Su Yin, was. And people are just like it has to be Sokka because Su Yin’s children look like Sokka. Others think it’s impossible and they believe the children are replicas of their father Baatar Sr.
What I find amusing, though, is if you look up the word “baatar” (not Bataar), the word seems to come from a Germanic language where the word means “father”. I swear to God, I wonder if the creators were messing with people here. But I have no clue lol

He smiled as he hugged his daughter back. Resting his check comfortably on top of her head. "Hi, baby girl. I've missed you so much. Has Tenzin and Korra been treating you well?"

Any cute or happy head canons for any characters ?
Lin is the first person Opal goes to with things. Whether it's a problem or just something she's excited to share, she goes to Auntie Lin.
Bataar Sr. and Lin become close friends without ever intending to. It's the kinda friendship where it just sorta hits them like wait, I trust this person with a lotta things.
Korra finally succeeds in forcing a kind of friendship with Lin. The lore she learns is truly bewildering.
Asami and Mako sorta compete for being Lin's number two. She finds their competitiveness funny and mentors them both to the best of her ability.
Tenzin's kids love Lin- they won't admit it, but they really wonder how their father ever fumbled Lin.

You know, I never realized how boring and one dimensional Suyin’s family was
Suyin and her family to a large degree dominate the narratives of Book 3 and particularly Book 4. Suyin has decent complexity as a character and her relationship with Lin is interesting. But the rest of her family?
Opal: Quick, name one defining characteristic about Opal other than “is an airbender” and “is Bolin’s love interest.” Can you?
Bataar Sr. : He barely seems to exist in the narrative.
Bataar Jr.: Boring and underdeveloped
Wei and Wing: Do they even qualify as characters?
Huan: receives no characterization beyond “weird artist guy”
