i’m pretty sure this was done on the tlt subreddit once before but i haven’t seen it here and i’m curious to know tumblr’s opinions on the topic! personally i like the second two much more than the first—gtn didn’t really grab me that much and i wouldn’t have even called myself part of the fandom until i decided i might as well give htn a go and immediately got sucked in—but i’m guessing that most people’s experience is different, since the first book seems like the most popular based on the impressions i’ve gotten. also feel free to put in tags where you’d rank the short stories (as yet unsent and doctor sex) relative to the books! i would have stuck those in the poll too but there are. 120 different ways to order 5 unique objects

#personally it’s always going to be ayu >/= htn > ntn > dr sex > gtn for me #i do think that gtn might have had a chance against ntn if i had read gtn in the same mindset that i read nona (i.e. already completely 100% #obsessed with the world and characters) but there’s no way either of them could possibly hope to compete with the EXPERIENCE that is htn #and ayu is absolutely perfect for what what it is (character study of judith subtle worldbuilding exercise etc.) #like that short story more than anything else to me is where it’s clear that muir has written fanfic before because in the best possible way #ayu feels like one of those extremely high-quality 10-15k oneshot fics that you read and find your entire life permanently changed by #also the night that story leaked on this website was my destiel night so i will always have a fondness for it tied to that experience #the locked tomb #polls #if this HAS been done on here then i’m sorry and i’m not trying to steal anyone’s thunder! i just really want to know

hi. i would just like to say that this is an attitude i've seen around increasingly often and i find it deeply baffling. like, genuinely could not relate any less to what is being expressed here.

personally, almost all media i'm obsessed with and talk about constantly is because i think it's good and i love talking about the ways in which it's good. yes, criticism can be fun and breed conversation, but so can positive critique. thoughtful, long-lasting engagement with a piece of media doesn't have to be negative. there are in fact ways for media to be good beyond "competent but generally unremarkable"?

and this is ymmv, but complaining about something is more the snack food of media criticism for me. it's fun and great in the moment and it absolutely is something i need to do regularly to feel normal. but i can't live off it. i need to experience genuine appreciation and esteem on a regular basis too, or i shrivel like a raisin. (expressed more seriously: the kind of critique i find actually nourishing in the sense that it allows me to refine what kind of art i would like to make, and what makes me tick as a human being, is the positive kind about media i love very much for being excellent.)

idk guys. is it just that i'm autistic and therefore discussing for the nth time why xyz rules never stops being entertaining? what am i missing here. maybe it's good when media is good?

#my best friend and i did a thing last year where over the course of several months we got wizard high every couple weekends #and attempted to replay a game together that we were both obsessed with when we were younger #and we were both already aware that it was an incredible piece of art #and we had countless conversations about that #so at the start we mainly treated it as a joke like 'haha lets see if we unlock any new diagnoses' etc #but the most wonderful part of that project was realizing progressively that there was in fact So Much to love we hadn't even realized yet #that this thing we adored as teens/young adults does in fact not only hold up but is even better than we were aware of at the time #and how much of a difference our additional life experience made and how many things we only realized on this playthrough together #and it's the most fun i've ever had analyzing a piece of media and taking it apart from top to bottom in my life #and almost all of that was entirely positive. like. we had negative stuff to say too ofc lol. but not nearly as much. #anyway #highly recommend doing this with your formative media of choice that a friend and you were both independently obsessed with #txt

It's been a while since I last thought seriously about Dr*gon A*e (even prior to falling in love with BG3) and I think a big part of that is I'm not as big a fan of the setting and the worldbuilding as I used to be. Like to me it really does feel like BW looked at typical fantasy settings and went "hmm okay but what if there was Catholic-enforced racism and abelism". And like. Cool thought experiment bro. Do we really need three games made by primarily white guys about that.

Headcannon that the two friends Vincent went to wonder world with were a set of twins he’d been friends with since early childhood. They had all known each other since elementary school and were practically inseparable. People often joked that it was more like they were all triplets than a set of twins and their best friends This gets even more upsetting when you remember they both went to the gift shop when Vincent rose the surge that last time. Imagine they went there with their best friend to enjoy a break from university life and left without a sibling. They went to have fun and instead lost a part of themselves; a part that they never knew was still alive. Top this off with the fact that Vincent was missing presumed dead just imagine the twins looking for him and all Vincent can do is watch.
