been thinking abt my fmab hunger games au all day and its so convoluted lmao

So there's three timelines we gotta explain right away

First timeline:

Riza Hawkeye won a la guns (in this au u get weapons and can use alchemy) thus became the victor for her district (like the equivalent of district 12 but i cant be bothered to have 24 ppl in a cast therefore we splitting this as arakawa intended- east district)

Second timeline:

Edward Elric was reaped. Al could not volunteer because he knew that if the capitol (aka central) ppl find out about his body theyd not only punish him but theyd probably also kill ed for comitting the taboo

Now!

It's WINRY who volunteers for some random girl because she is eds mechanic!! And he can't survive out there without her!! She is doing this for you Ed!

Riza is their haymitch. Roy Mustang, exists in this au but I'm torn between two routes for him

He's like a Gale character for Riza but the reason why he didn't volunteer to be alongside Riza for her HG was because he was too old by that point. Riza was like 18 when she got reaped.

Roy Mustang is a capitol boy who is the main schmoozing bitch that gets riza all her sponsors because that woman has 0 rizz. Effie but a man whore.

Ed and Winry win much alike Katniss and Peeta do in the first HG. I don't care for this. My fic would start with the 2nd quarter quell when all of the previous winners gotta fight.

Third timeline:

Winry gets chosen for the 75th HG. Riza steps up for her. They know she won't be this lucky again how she was last time.

Ed is the only East District male tribute.

Reason why riza stepped up is because these hunger games are going to be a bloodbath.

Olivier and Alex Armstrong will he competing. And they're careerists. (See this is where it gets kinda weird how to plan because if I have Central be capitol then that means we can't have Armstrong in this but which district would I put them in if I can't have this- lmao Olivier and Miles as North District tributes maybe - Miles may have volunteered for Alex because Alex came out of his HG completely traumatised (much alike in ishval))

Comanche and Izumi from the south district (also careerists or just built like that lmao)

And that just leaves us with the West District

This random boy gets reaped but oh! Oh! Don't worry - because there's someone who REALLY wants back in that arena! The one and only Crimson Lotus (that man would RELISH in all of the fanfare and the centre of attention he'd play the game very well and would always be like: no fair, why are we doing this w kids we should invent a new hg for us :/ (lmaooo a sponsor sent him a ph stone during his initial hg could u believe that and then he went ham thatd be so funny honestly)

Anyway Sheska is the female tribute because plot reasons.

Ishval is its own district let's say and we get Scar (volunteered for his brother in his first games and now is the only male tribute from the Victors)

I guess an OC there aren't a lot of female characters to choose from.

We're told that he was raised by Madame Christmas, but I like to headcanon that she also adopted all the women who work in her bar and become Roy's intelligence network when they go on their fake dates. So Roy grew up in a highly unconventional setting with a dozen adopted older sisters, all orphaned or abandoned. He goes from a female-dominated living situation to a male-dominated one when he joins the military XD

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire? (Riza Hawkeye)

Royai. Are both Mustang and Hawkeye a bundle of issues? Is Hawkeye in particular perhaps unhealthily dependent on Mustang, to the point that if he were to die, she would kill herself? Yes. But their complete and utter devotion to one another, and the way they show love to each other in a thousand ways without being able to even hint at the way they really feel, is something I've always admired.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now? (Edward Elric)

Looooool, my introduction to Edward Elric was a fanart depicting him as an angel holding a claymore XD When my brother showed it to me, I was like, "Okay, we have to watch this Full Metal Alchemist thing now!"

Naturally, we soon discovered that particular fanart was more...imaginative than we realized at first. But by then we were hooked anyway. Now, obviously, I don't think of Ed as an avenging angel :P He's still inspiring and heroic, but now I also know him as a total dork with a bundle of issues, but also the biggest heart for his little brother you could possibly imagine <3

I thought it would be a good idea to put all of my Fma au Art that I have so far together! I hope everyone likes it!

The science of alchemy has a history of being used for nefarious purposes. But when secrets are revealed and weapons are drawn, it’s only a matter of time before powers such as Amestris, Creta, and Xing take part in Alchemic War.

An unexpected nationwide event has caused disaster and crisis across Amestris. It’s as if the ground itself began to crumble, like its hollow beneath. Nobody knows how the chain reaction of seismic events was started. However, some sources have stated the presence of a series of underground tunnels beneath Amestris territory.

The Fullmetal Alchemist has not yet returned to Central. He is currently attending to his automail engineer, whom is suffering from grievous injuries caused by the recent incident. It will likely be some time before the news of his brother’s supposed death reaches Resembool, but he is likely worried sick about him.

Slave #23 has returned home.

Laboratory 5 is only occupied by those who know of its secrets. Most of which are presumed dead to the general public.

Adult subjects:

Jerso (Last name unknown)- Human Chimera (Toad and Frogfish). Joined the military at age 19. All previous records have been effectively erased.

The Mustang Unit has been forcefully disbanded. After their leader caught a glimpse of the happenings beneath Central City, he was promptly stripped of his rank and title. Only two of his former colleagues are still on duty in Central, but they will likely not cause any trouble. Riza Hawkeye is under the watchful eye of the Fuhrer, and Maes Hughes poses no threat to exposing what’s truly happening within Central.

Before the incident, the biggest news was that of the alchemist killer. The narrative was that he was an Ishvalan man with an X-shaped scar on his forehead out for revenge on the government that massacred his people.

However, now that Amestris has settled a bit more after the incident, the scarred man has returned, and he’s not alone. Word has spread of a second Ishvalan accompanying “Scar” (as the public has called him). This new accomplice is said to be missing his right arm. Some have also said that he may be the brother of Scar. However, this is all just speculation.

Since this reemergence, more uprisings have occurred in prominently military-occupied areas of Amestris.

The nationwide transmission circle has been activated too early. Father’s strength has been depleted by this incident. However, the homunculi have a new ally. One whom has lived almost as long as he has. One whom has created her own homunculi. One whom has opened the portal of Truth, and knows many of its secrets.

The boss has been reintegrated into Father’s ranks, much to his dismay. His greed and hunger for more has always made his position less than favorable for him. But this time, Father and his new supporter have taken extra measures to make sure he stays in line. He still acts like himself though. A suave, smug, piece of—

i'm so behind. i finally watched fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood in its entirety two days ago and...

i find it endlessly amusing that edward elric's wardrobe screams 'chuunibyou goth teenager' in-universe too, even though he actually isn't a chuuni himself. it's great.

alphonse elric is a sweet, gentle boy -- with a voice to match in english and japanese -- and a far more skilled fighter than his little big brother, who is already strong enough to punch out GOD.

all characters are given the same loving characterization, regardless of gender. as a result, the vast majority are memorable! even the one-shots! women are not relegated to healing or support roles; they're equal participants in the story.

i usually hate romance in stories targeted towards the shōnen demographic, because it's rarely written well. here we have at least two in all but name (riza hawkeye x roy mustang, winry rockbell x edward elric), and one with just the right amounts of awkwardness, devotion, deep friendship, and belatedly-realized mutual attraction to click for me. tsundere characters don't have to suck, y'all.

also, can i just say i really like arakawa-sensei's take on bookworms/nerds? not only are they badasses on and off the battlefield, but they're varied and fascinating -- only a scant few are stereotypical know-it-alls, absent-minded professors or mousy shrinking violets. they're just people. positive Smart Person representation? i'm here for it.

will it knock my all-time fave off its pedestal? no. is it a story that deserves a spot on the shelf of classic stories in any medium? absolutely.

fma has been my favorite manga since i was a kid i'm really attached to it 😭 me and a couple friends decided to rewatch the CoS movie together and we both fell down the deep end and have been obsessively rereading and rewatching everything since then. i'm having so much fun i luv fma...

i think what really drew me in was edward himself tbh! he is such a unique protagonist, and especially at the time he was the odd one out among shounen heros—not naive and untalented meant for eternal nekketsu powerups but a boy who had always been frighteningly smart and had gone thru extremely traumatic events and whose goal as a hero wasn't to become The Best at his craft or to save the world but to fix a mistake he had already made.

i was (still am) very attached to him being disabled and how the story manages to include all that this entails (chronic pain, reduced mobility, special needs...) while at the same time engaging in really cool prosthetic design and functions and without ever making it demeaning or pithy toward amputees. arakawa was an absolute genius for how she went about ed's disability.

ed is just such a GOOD character. flamboyant and flawed and unflinchingly moral. self-sacrificing and self-hating but with a drive and devotion to overcome everything. he's a truly unforgettable character and he is insanely enticing as a protagonist in a story like fma, where every plot point is carefully connected to the overall story... like a transmutation circle in and of itself. icarus fell as his wings melted but ed keeps standing back up even with a whole leg missing, even after facing his own punishment for trying to play god. he is loud and bad-tempered and hilarious and his character design is awesome and that would've been enough to make him a fav for me but when u add in his generosity and kindness, which are so painfully obvious despite the prickly exterior, he's Ultimate Fav material. my blorbo my meow meow.

that his personal story is all about love for his brother and trying to fix the terrible mistake he made and which he will forever blame himself for (even tho everyone around him knows that he was only 11 at the time, and it's a miracle he managed to save alphonse at all, and doesn't think he deserves to hate himself for it) is just... it's good ok. it's a wonderful story with a wonderful conclusion. it suits him, his personality, perfectly. edward elric is a marvel of a protagonist.

damn it's hard for me to pick other fav characters bc i love everyone so much. i love izumi and ling and greed (both versions lmao) a lot... and scar and hawkeye and hughes... its too hard to pick.

roy mustang is definitely up there in the fav list tho. it's a bit funny because usually i wouldn't be much into him as a character bc his whole shtick is pretty much "i committed genocide but i feel bad about it" but he managed to have enough personality and flair to make himself vital to the story and extremely enticing too. it helps that everyone in fma has so much chemistry together, so his team has a lot of charisma. if mustang had been alone or even with just hawkeye or hughes i don't think he would've been nearly as interesting to me. i do think the story should've gone a bit deeper with his goals bc people tend to forget that he doesn't just want to become fuhrer, he wants to disestablish the military state altogether and make it so war criminals (including himself) can be tried legally. his ultimate goal can be seen as very selfish in that way—he wants to be made to face justice. and to the end he's not reluctant to use every tool at his disposal, including marcoh's last philosopher's stone from ishval to heal himself... that's the sort of plot point that leaves you feeling a bit sick and makes him into a character worth his weight in salt.

it's cool to put his choices next to ed's. like ed literally refused to use his deadbeat dad's philosopher's stone, which was made from people from 400 yrs ago that he never knew and who would've been dead anyway and whom hohenheim actually talked to in depth, to save alphonse; instead he sacrificed his most precious passion. and he refused to use kimblee's philosopher's stone when he almost died in baschool—instead he used his own damn lifespan to heal himself just enough not to die lmao. meanwhile, mustang, even while expressing reservations and acknowledging all that it means, used a stone made from the lives of the people he personally massacred. he is what you can genuinely call a morally grey character and that doesn't change thru the story. and i like that.

Highlights and Notes on Being Halfway Through "Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood"

Watching the dub, I'm still getting used to the English being delivered so that it matches the lip animation. I've been constantly criticized over watching dubbed anime instead of the sub (even in grad school by professors) but it's just easier for me to process and understand. I also don't usually watch anime but I decided to give this show a shot because I've been hearing good things about it

Crunchyroll only offers the first three episodes for free so I had to dig around to even find the whole show

The intros are LONG

Shout out to Bones for the fluid animation because it is STUNNING

That slow motion shot of Ed taking out one of Greed's chimeras? Amazing. Ling slow motion slicing Gluttony's head off? Amazing. Roy freaking carving his transmutation circle into the back of his hand so that he can use it whenever? Freaking metal.

With that in mind, some of the approaches for character designs for some reason don't work really well for me but that's just my opinion

The immense disappointment I had upon realizing that the white suited person in the third intro was not Greed but in fact freaking KIMBLEE

Episode 4. Oh God.

GREED. Easily one of the best characters in the show.

Did the loudest Darth Vader "NOOOO" when Lust disguised herself as Havoc's date

Since watching Izuni's debut episode, I noticed afterward just how well written all of the main female characters are

No joke, I freaking ejected out of my chair when Ross was being interrogated because I put two and two together and just jumped around the room trying to calm down

Troy Baker's delivery of "You know, people normally reject me." That's it.

Alphonse's arc of trying to grapple his humanity is extremely compelling

Apparently an endgame ship I've learned of is Winry and Ed and honestly I think she could do so much better

Ling just collapses everywhere if he doesn't eat and honestly mood

So it's established that Father is NOT the Elric brothers' dad but he KNOWS of him and LOOKS almost exactly like him so.... my working theory is that Father and Hohnheim worked together previously for alchemical research and Father is actually some ambiguous being that took the appearance of Hohnheim like how Envy takes the form of a teenager

The amount of Eucharist jokes I made about Father drinking the essence of the philosopher stones...

As I pointed out to my sibling, the leader of the country is referred to as Fuhrer and just... hmm...

Fullmetal Alchemist Chapter 58

How young was Roy in that flashback? The only thing about Roy that looks younger is his haircut.

And call me a millenial, but Roy's master is living in a large and lovely-looking house. Even if it might need renovations, I'd love to live there.

Staff Sergeant Black Hayate has defeated Edward Elric. Ed says that happens to him a lot but the only other dog I've seen him interact with was Alexander.

And the question I had about the boxes gets answered. Sadly Riza is not moving to an apartment with good piping infrastructure.

Reminder that Ed is a teenager and has the maturity of one when the subject moves to mature topics like romance and love. I love how Black Hayate shakes his head at the same time as Ed.

And there's something strangely delightful about seeing Hawkeye wearing slippers.

The framing device for this flashback is pretty cool. It's not being shared by an omnipotent narrator. It's the collective story being told by Hawkeye, Knox, and Marcoh; as well as the recollections of Armstrong, Mustang, and Scar. If I could modify anything, I'd want to slip in a panel implying that Kimblee is also reminiscing about Ishbal as well.

And the rest of the chapter is setting up the mood just before the end of the war. We have three scenes and they all paint different pictures.

Our first scene is between Scar and his brother. Scar's brother is researching Xingese Alchemy and is fascinated by its similarities to their own belief in Ishbala. Scar's brother brings up similar ideas that Izumi did when she taught Ed and Al. There's a natural flow to nature and the concept of One is All and All is One. But Scar's brother sees the flow in a more spiritual level rather than natural level. Instead of the flow being about natural cause and effect and that you should accept what happens, he brings up the flow of positive and negative energies. If people come together in positivity, positivity flows.

But Scar is surrounded by only negativity from the war. He hears people bragging about killing Amestrians and sees grieving mothers and widows. He doesn't see any peaceful resolution nor an end to the war.

Our second scene has us meet the Rockbells. Urey is arguing with an uncooperative patient while Sara is getting some medical supplies. The supplier warns them about increased military operations and tries to help them flee only for them to refuse. The Rockbells continue to help with the hopes that there can be a peaceful resolution and the war will end soon.

Our third scene is General Hakuro discovering that Aerugo has been supplying Ishbalan forces the equipment to fight Amestris so they can weaken their military power. In response, Military HQ decides to go scorched Earth. They lock up all the Ishbalans within their ranks and send their State Alchemists to the front line. The military has no interest in peaceful resolution and has decided the war will end now.

A little sidenote I picked up. This flashback takes place roughly 4 or 5 years before the main story and Hakuro is still only a General. So he's made no advancement in years. No wonder he's paranoid about Roy's advancement in rank.

Wanted to first say thank you to everyone whose been liking my Fullspeed alchemist au!! I’m very happy so many people like my drawings of the boys :D

But this has made me think more on how the other characters would fit into this au! Some FMA characters are still just who they were originally but if they looked a mobian because there is more GMA characters then there is sonic characters

So first is the elrics and Hoenheim.

There’s Sonic as Ed and Tails as Al. For Father I’m having him as Dr. Eggman but for that to work I’m having Mr.Tinker (from IDW comics) as Hoenheim while Trisha Elric is Longclaw. In this story longclaw adopts Sonic and Tails when they were toddlers. And Mr Tinker was sometimes there.

For the Rockwells- Amy is Winry! They both have construction tools they use to fight Sonic/Ed. But also this kind, strong, stubborn, loving character that Winry is fits perfectly with how I see Amy. Pinako Rockwell is still who she is.

As for Teacher I think I might make her be Aleena the Hedgehog.

For Team Mustang you have Knuckles as Roy, Rouge as Hawkeye and the the Chaotix and Mighty the armadillo takes up Knuckles Mustangs team! Knuckles being Roy just fit into place. I was debating if I should do Rouge or Whisper for Hawkeye and then have Rouge as Lust. I decided with Rouge for The fact that just like how Roy and Hawkeye have history so does Knuckles and Rouge!

Which then lead me to the humonculous! For Lust I went with Infinite. Infinite seems the kinda guy whose able to take charge in a group setting like how Lust is (to me at least) there’s also how both have claws. For Greed originally I went with Shadow as greed and then pride as Maria but changed both of those to something else. So now Greed is Mecha! And pride as Sage! Both Pride and Sage are little Victorian children who like to murder 🖤. Envy is Metal Sonic. Someone who was made to be the perfect equivalent to Sonic but can’t quiet get there. And then Sloth as Omega and no idea who Gluttony will be as of right now.

From there let’s do Shadow. Since I scratched the idea of him being Greed I decided to go for Scar for him. After he lost his sister Maria who studied alchemy yet lost her to it along with all of the Ishvalans he is now on a revenge spree. Also in the anime Scar is the first “bad guy” we see Ed really struggling to win against. Which felt similar to Sonic and Shadow. Along Shadows journey of revenge he meets a young little princess from Xing. And Mei is Cream and Cheese! Might have Yoki as Cluth the Opossum. And as for Ling, Fu, and Lan I’m having as the rouge Babylons! Jet as Ling, wave is Lan, and Storm is fu

And 180 into the Hughes family which I think it makes sense for it to be the Wachowski family. So Tom as Maes Hughes, mrs Hughes as Maddie and then probably personify Ozzy and have him be there kid that calls Sonic little brother.

But these are the characters I have for this au so far!! I’m very excited about this au :D I love FMA and alchemy. If people have questions I’ll be happy to answer and talk about this au 👀

You know for a manga that boasts having so many badass female characters i can't help but need to add OCs to Metallic Crimson because all of the female characters fall into the following categories:

A) White Seeming Soldier Lady (Riza Hawkeye, Rebecca Catalina, Maria Ross, Sheska, Olivier Mira Armstrong, Briggs Doctor*) (*military doctor ergo here and not below- plus babe doesn't even have a name)

B) White Seeming Civillian Lady (Winry, Pinako, Sarah Rockbell, Armstrong sisters (3 of them and i can't recall if they ever speak), Mrs Armstrong (we don't have a name for her), Madame Christmas, Trisha Elric*, Gracia Hughes*) (*have these gals done anything except been there for their man or their sons I would hardly count them shonen badass but I am adding them because they are female characters and they play a part)

C) White Seeming Alchemist Lady (Izumi Curtis) (lmao i thought there'd be more but all of the other alchemists in the manga are men)

D) Not Human (Martel, Lust, Nina, Nina's mom)

E) Not Amestrian* (*Ishvalans are Amestrian) (Lan Fan, Mai, The panda (tbh i just now noticed i put the panda here and not in Not Human and it's so much funnier here)

The only ones who don't fall into this category are Shan (the ONLY female speaking ishvalan in the fmab anime - SHE APPEARS SO LITTLE AND IS FORGETTABLE THAT I HAD TO GOOGLE HER) and Paninya (a one-off character)

Oh but limeta! Amestris is supposed to be Europe, that's why they're all white -

For its time, FMAB is an incredibly diverse story with amazing female characters, but i see people still boasting them for modern standards and it's like - but there aren't, there really aren't many badass female characters at all. and if I were to take a step further and remove all of the female characters whose sole motivation is enabling or helping a man succeed then I'd cut those characters up there even further. The only ones who are genuinely badass characters with their own clear cut motivation are Pinako Rockbell (suppose if she were younger, she'd be given a man to hype and do things for but thank god she's an old wise woman archtype and therefore immune to that trope), Sarah Rockbell (selflessly saving lives and being a doctor, though sorry queen you died) and Olivier Mira Armstrong (proactively fucking shit up and with a clear motivation what she wants - but then you can also infer that Mustang is a part of her motivation because she wants to fuck his chances up of being Fuhrer lmao)

Winry in brotherhood is very waifu, very not proactive, very I'll wait for you but she still gets shit done and so she's still badass because we all know that strength is differently expressed with different characters so she's still on this list, but compared to her 03 version she's very stay at home, very support role, very all i do i do for ed and al.

Riza Hawkeye... i love her. she's my favourite character. but remove roy from her motivation and what do you get...be honest...

Madame Christmas, for the only times she does appear, she does so because she's gotta help Roy.

Gracia is a housewife :) and we know nothing about her. She is an extension of Maes Hughes. She is there because if she weren't there we wouldn't have Elicia and if we didn't have Elicia we wouldn't have the scenes where Maes boasts and hypes his family up in order to solidify his characterisation as THAT CARING DUDE HOPE NOTHING BAD - OH NO THE WIFE GUY DIED.

Make no mistake! This is not anti fmab. I've written over 300k worth of content for this fandom and I adore every single frame of that show (especially the nina tucker spliced with her dog frame, chefs kiss) But it has forced me to have to create either backstories and motivation for most of these female characters that exist outside of the men in their lives or it has forced me to create OCs that don't fall within those aforementioned categories.

Would it have been so bad, I ask, if we got an Ishvalan character who was not a monk and not in the slums waiting to die? Maybe even a female character? Would it have been so bad that we got more speaking roles for women outside of the military who aren't alchemists? Would it have been bad if we got a female character who was a State Alchemist?

Most likely yes, because Arakawa had a clear view of what she needed in order to tell her story from start to finish, but I'm not confined to such limitations and I'll make Ishvalan characters who are proactive. I'll gladly add more characterisation to our prexisting anime babes because I love that I can. I am a worldbuilder first and foremost and I love making a world that's LIVED in and having such a sanitized character list from up there is really making me not feel like it's LIVED in.

Anyway calling fmab a show filled to the brim with badass female characters is ??? an outdated take.

Can I say the Colletor from The Owl House? I cannot even blame the fandom too much, since the show did it too. But as soon as the little guy was freed from his prison and got a cuddly child form many seemed to forget the terrifying behavior he showed beforehand. Like he was supposed to be an ancient, morally grey entity, not a n overgrown toddler whom everyone was mean too. And then came For The Future and he really was just an overgrown toddler whom everyone was mean too. Him laughing at some of Belos' cruelties? That was actually Belos fault, because he taught him opposite day logic and that pain was funny! (An actual take I've seen) Actually children don't have a single mean bone in their bodies, unless they were abused! Nevermind the fact that children do cruel things all the time, without any abuse involved. Hell, even King himself showed plenty of cruel and mean behavior earlier in the show. And I doubt that Eda was as shitty as a parental figure as Belos was (even though she was highly questionable too earlier on)

And although I haven't seen any really bad takes along with the character, Zolf "I committed genocide and enjoyed it" Kimblee getting ranked relatively high in character polls. Higher than Scar and Hohenheim at least. How? Why? What does this guy actually bring to the table that's so enjoyable? Okay, he called Hawkeye and Mustang out, but so did Scar!

14 that one thing you see in fics all the time

Dead Guy Jr. naming syndrome. It doesn't bother me as much if it's one or two characters doing it for a kid, but if half the cast does it for all their children it gets weird. It's especially prevalent in Fullmetal Alchemist fanfictions in my experience. You can seemingly pick any fanfic about the further adventures of the characters and always have little Ninas, little Maes, little Trisha, little Urey, little Sara and the list goes on.

Furthermore, Roy Mustang the excellent father figure. You know, the guy who's first reaction was to shake a crippled little boy wildly, without even confirming it was the kid he was looking for and mad at XD. The guy who never interacted with either his best friend's widow and/or his daughter. Who picks fights with a kid half his age. Name one parental thing he actually did for the Elric's, aside from trying to shield them from Hughes death.

Also portraying certain (usually villainous) characters as sexual abusers/predators when there were no hints of that in canon. To be clear, I'm not judging you for dealing with such dark themes, it just gets a little exhausting for me personally. For example I really like Rex Godwin from Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's, a character who is morally grey on the best of days, and usually behaves really shitty and manipulative towards the main cast, and it often goes "Oh a new fanfic featuring him, what a rare occurence...oh it's one of those".

Having Jonathan Joestar as this innocent almost virgin, who only had sex because canon dictates it, and even then only once. I get that he's victorian and all, but the guy was married for five days before his untimely death, not one night.

15 that one thing you see in fanart all the time

Portraying Dio Brando as Jonathan's dearly missed brother whom he would hug instantly after reuniting in Heaven (that goes for fanfics too). It's okay, completely ignore the fact that Jonathan would have massive beef with him for once again trying to kill his family. Or killing all those innocent civilians. Or having children and dooming them to live with their usually abusive mothers.

And pretty much all of the above things apply here too.
