New anon, but I saw the last one and I have some thoughts. Specifically, I have been obsessing over ml for the last month or so, and I’ve only seen three episodes, and they were the three released before crocoduel. And you know what? I wasn’t that into it, it wasn’t bad it just wasn’t half as engaging as fanon and fanworks have been for me.
I’ve also done this with the Magicians, Supernatural, and a couple others. I think the reason that this works, for some people, is because it is a more familiar and in many ways, easier way to discover and become attached to new material and new characters. Fan writers and artists are coming from a place of love for their source material (no matter what issues they may have with it) and that bleeds out into their work. Time is spent developing the characters and their feelings, their relationships, in ways that canon so often can’t or isn’t allowed to, and reading that, it’s very easy to fall in love with new characters very quickly. There’s also common AUs and dynamics that make it much easier to start something new.
And also: comfort characters. So many fans find common ground with characters and further project onto them, particularly in fanfic. And because of that it’s often easier to identify with a fan’s interpretation of a character than it is to identify with the canon’s, since you have these more deeply explored feelings and relationships based on a combination of canon and the personal experiences of the fan writer. Also, with these kinds of fics it’s extremely emotionally affirming since for someone who doesn’t have much of any connection with the source material, it feels like the original, even if you’re reading a large body of work by a lot of different people. And I’m so used to fanfic as a substitute for the emotional work and character development that shows/movies/books don’t have room for or aren’t willing to get into, that approaching a fandom as it’s own original piece of media in a way, feels very comforting.
That’s my perspective on it anyways, and why I do this. I do think it is a good thing to engage with the canon to an extent, even if it’s just watching a few clips (how I found ml) but I also don’t think you need any real connection or knowledge of it to be deeply invested in the fandom. Sorry, this got very long.
you know, i totally get being on, like, the fringe of fandoms and interacting with fanon to an extent without a proper investment in canon (I have a couple fandoms like that), but i honestly just can't imagine becoming super invested in a fandom when I am not invested in the source material...maybe that's just a difference between you and me, idk.
but also, i gotta admit that i'm struggling a bit to understand the reason. you yourself pointed out that fan work is enjoyable because the creator's love for canon bleeds into it. and isn't that the reason that you would want to give canon a real chance? obviously there is fan content made out of spite lol (and sadly a fair amount in this fandom), but to me most fan content is like a love letter to canon. like, "i adore this thing so much that it inspired me to create and share with other people who adore it." and what better recommendation is there than that?? i would think people would wanna familiarize themselves with canon in order to better enjoy fanon(?)
i completely understand your point about fan content delving further into characterization and relationships where canon hasn't/can't, and that is such a big appeal of fanfic/fanart. but i don't feel like that's a reason to not engage with canon? on the contrary, i feel like you are missing something important in your understanding and appreciation of that wonderful exploration if you haven't experienced firsthand the foundation that canon set. and maybe that missing thing is just your personal interpretation of a character/dynamic.
for example, i could say, "adrien agreste is this, this, and this and he would do this but not this." and of course i will think im right because my characterization is always perfect 😌sakjdfaldjks but someone else might have a slightly different interpretation, and someone else will have another interpretation, and when you mush all those individual takes on a character together, you will get a good sense of who they are, but you still don't have the Original™️ to draw your own interpretation from. idk, to me it sounds like basing your opinion of chocolate ice cream on what other people are saying about it without ever trying it yourself? ajsldakljf maybe that's an oversimplification but i do think that without experiencing it for yourself, your understanding will always be kind of incomplete.
idk, i big agree with everything you said about why fan content is special, but everything that is a point in fanon's favor is not a knock on canon. to me fan content feels pretty inseparable from canon, so it just doesn't compute to me to take canon out of the equation? then we would have nothing.
i feel like it's almost kinda trendy nowadays to be like, "oh this show actually sucks lmao but the fanon and AUs are good." like it's shameful to actually...enjoy source material? 😭 i mean i completely understand that miraculous ladybug is not gonna be everyone's cup of tea and that's fine! but if you truly enjoy the fan content that much i encourage you to give canon a real shot. it's not that surprising to me that you watched 3 recent episodes and didn't vibe that much, since you haven't seen the 3 seasons of buildup that lead to them. miraculous has a neat way of tying a bunch of things together so if you aren't familiar with all of it, you're probably missing out.
personally my love for miraculous was kind of a slowburn at first. i only started watching the show because my sister and i made a deal that forced me to watch the first few eps lol. and i didn't really vibe either. but there must have been enough of a spark there for me to keep watching bc for some reason i did and the more i watched the more i fell in love with it until it became the thing that occupies my brain more than anything else. i started with canon and then got into fanon, but it could easily go the other way too. and if you're already invested in the story and characters, i have to imagine it would be much easier to push past the initial cringe of "this is a show about a couple of teen furries rated TV-Y7 on netflix" lol and give anything you don't vibe with the benefit of the doubt.
again, to be clear, i'm not trying to judge or gatekeep here! i'm just saying this because i genuinely LOVE miraculous. it's my favorite show. that's why i make things for it. that's why i have this blog. i want people to watch it. so maybe, pwetty pwease, try watching the show you like so much? 🥺👉👈

The more you talk about Toki, the more I want to pick him back up & incorporate him into my drawings & comics. Tell me all about that guy for the character ask meme :)
fdjhgdfkgj are you giving me all the numbers for toki?? (thank youuuu) okay let’s go B)
um, this got long hahaha
1) Uncommon headcanon about them I am deeply attached to.
OLDER TOKI. by the time doomstar rolls around i like him in his mid-30s. i know the libretto says toki “seems 16″ in the duel flashback, but that doesn’t mean 16. he was a malnourished, abused kiddo and then lived on the streets, there’s no way he was an appropriate weight and height for his age. so imo when he auditions in the mid-90s, he was like 19/20. also he has a little chest/tummy hair i think because it’s a special treat for me. 8)
2) Widely-held headcanon about them that I reject.
“sexually innocent” toki. i do NOT like it and i think it’s infantalizing. this man has fucked. this man will fuck again. i think he owns a lot of neat sex toys and likes figuring out things that make him feel good. :3
3) What were they like as a kid? What was their early life like?
well, sadly we know. :’( i don’t like to think TOO hard about toki’s life under his parents. it was abusive and sad and i hate lingering there. but i DO like thinking about after he was made to leave home! i like to imagine that he played around the streets on lillehammer for a while and ended up naturally gravitating towards runke’s record shop. from canon we know toki wasn’t in any bands for dethklok (even though it’s really fun to picture toki in a black metal group in the early 90s omg), but i have to imagine toki was definitely in that scene as a teen, probably went to a bunch of runke’s shows, wore the clothes, got in fights and drenched in blood and stuff. was probably a great outlet after the stifling environment he grew up in. :’) love that for him.
4) Symbols/motifs that I associate with them–colors, animals, zodiac signs, mythic themes, imagery, objects, etc.
to me, toki’s a cancer (and i think canon supports this? based on the fertility calendar in fertilityklok). and of course he always gets associated with kitties. :3 and this is probably because of doomstar and the upside-down crucifix (but maybe also because of his religious upbringing), but i go NUTS for creepy christian imagery with toki. i haven’t delved super into it, but i thiiiink i headcanon that his parents are/were leading an offshoot of adventism (which, the branch davidians from the whole waco thing were an offshoot of adventism, so...yeah, not good). in a hammertooth context, i’ve definitely played in my mind with toki in a jesus sense and magnus in a judas sense (someday i will draw a “jesus in the garden of gethsemane” scene with magnus coming to kiss his cheek to mark him for the revengencers/mma because i crave pain)
5) Other characters or types of people I have in mind when I draw and/or write them.
myself lmao there’s not really anyone who comes to mind specifically when i write or draw him i don’t think! i guess a few guys from the early black metal scene kinda float around in my head a little bit (i remember seeing some old photos of pelle/dead a few years ago and being struck by how scary he seemed in his makeup but then how melancholic he seemed out of it, even when smiling)
6) What I project onto them when I draw and/or write them.
as someone in their mid-30s with “age-inappropriate” interests, uhhhh yeah i definitely project some of my insecurities and irritations onto him regarding that and the struggle between wanting to hang with the other adults and still wanting to do the things that make me happy without getting judged. if i ever figure out how that works btw, i’ll let y’all know lmao
7) A surprising hobby, interest, or phobia they have.
with as many “toki songs” as we get over the course of the show, i think it’s really nice to think of him as a closet songwriter. he’s probably got notebooks full of lyrics and squiggles of music that only he understands. i think the reason he get pegged as musically “less than” is just because he’s trying to be like skwisgaar. when he’s doing his own thing his own way without the stress of having to perform for others, his stuff is gorgeous. :O

Your thoughts about Pickles for the ask meme (or Nathan if he’s already been asked about)?
One of my newer asks asked about Pickles so let’s do Nate!
1) Uncommon headcanon about them I am deeply attached to.
Nathan having ADD...it’s just a wonderful headcanon to me because I was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD as a kid and I realize now that I do have ADHD-so Nathan can have ADD as a treat.
 2) Widely-held headcanon about them that I reject.
I feel like the hot takes i have are regarding Nathan/Abigail but even then, it’s more of just hating how fandom treats them together. Hi, I know the show did butcher this badly but the same way people forget about Bookklok when shipping Skwis/tok, I can probably do the same or something-
I think the headcanon of Abigail being ‘too good’ for Nathan when he’s an autistic character and people headcanon Abigail as this ‘queen’ is just...ehh. I feel like this is some deep-rooted ableism because at that point, i don’t even think people like the ship because of the show. I think people just don’t wanna ship an independent woman with an autistic male character because those relationships clearly don’t exist in a healthy manner, right? I do like to think people just mean well and don’t take the autistic part into consideration but the same way fandom likes to bring the years of female tropes and such, please remember autistic people have suffered just as much in media. If anyone doesn’t ship Abigail/Nathan because of the show, writing, HC her as a lesbian, wanna say fuck you to Brendon for some reason, go wild!
 3) What were they like as a kid? What was their early life like?
Nathan was definitely the quiet kid. He was always quiet even as a baby. He never really cried as often or made much of any sounds. His parents, bless their souls honestly, just assumed it was a part of who he was and didn’t look into it because he was an only child and generally firstborn autistic kids can end up being overlooked as there is no other kids to compare their growth to. While they were the best possible parents anyone could ask for, he does sometimes wish he got properly diagnosed.
Nathan’s shyness is often confused for kindness and it doesn’t help his mother would be THAT woman who’d bring cupcakes to class on his birthday so he actually had good friends who would include him in things :) He just had a relatively happy childhood, minus the fact his entire class was killed but he did get therapy for it because his parents are good people!! He did deal with some school bullies here and there but his father taught him how to fight and he surely showed his strength quickly enough to not be picked with. I do feel like after the murder of his classmates, he would’ve had a dark time where people were afraid to approach him seeing him as ‘bad luck’ sadly. But also, kids are kids and some kids like to be around bad luck so he never got to be truly lonely :D
4) Symbols/motifs that I associate with them–colors, animals, zodiac signs, mythic themes, imagery, objects, etc.
I really associate more of the darker colors with him, the colors in the deepest parts of the ocean where there is almost no light. Animals are definitely alligators for him but I do compare him to a teddy bear sometimes because he seems like a soft big bear!! I admit I haven’t thought much of zodiac signs for him but definitely one of the water signs. For Mythic themes/symbolism, definitely water. It’s dark and unforgiving but at the same it can be light and fun and a source of life. There is definitely symbolism of him being a water God I could go into forever! :O
5) Other characters or types of people I have in mind when I draw and/or write them.
Peter Steele...because...reasons...
And also George fisher :D his video of how he goes coupon hunting on target is super adorable and helped me shape Nathan in being more lovable!
 6) What I project onto them when I draw and/or write them.
the autism and ADHD/ADD babey-
When I write Nathan, I kinda take some part of myself that I had buried long ago because people like me either sink or swim in the US education system and I was barely doing both- (3/10 do not recommend)-Nathan is just this person with a lot of love to give and has a hard time expressing it that isn’t in song! I guess I like to write characters in a self-projection way. How Nathan speaks, thinks and acts is something I try to write carefully in a non-offensive way and I feel like even using how I was as a kid probably is the best comparison though a lot more mature; absolutely fucking confused on what’s going on but there’s sometimes trips to McDonald’s so yay :D
7) A surprising hobby, interest, or phobia they have.
Nathan crochets!!! Yes this is my hobby/thing now because it’s such a relaxing hobby to get to do. The amount of projects you can make, the idea of Nathan’s big hands holding a small crochet needle is really cute, and the fact he can make so many projects for people is just really endearing :’). He will not let anyone know he made it though but it’s obvious he did and he will deny it-
I do think Nathan has a fear of connection in a sense. I feel like his relationship with Rebecca really affected him and made him fearful of dating for a while. It’s hard to be close to someone, especially if you end up attracting the wrong type of people. While Nathan got lucky finding nice women like Rachel, he was just afraid of something happening so he’d break things off quickly before he really got a chance to connect with them. Trindle was probably the closest he had a long term relationship because she was sweet, just a little insane in her motives, but Abigail would be the one to really coax him out of his shell on his own pace.

LGBTQ Light Novel Review - Otherside Picnic Vol. 1
I have been sitting on J-Novel Club’s Otherside Picnic for far too long. This work is the only one from their recent slew of science fiction and fantasy Yuri light novels that I had not yet reviewed. Sadly, I was, as always, so caught up in all the other amazing Yuri coming out that it fell by the wayside for longer than I would like to admit, things were so much easier back when we only got one or two Yuri localization a year (have I made that joke before?)! However, the English release of the second volume is about a month away, so the time felt right to open the door and enter the Otherside. I was very excited about this work, as I enjoyed Side-By-Side Dreamers, another light novel by the same author, Iori Miyazawa, and praised its world-building and creativity. Unfortunately, Side-By-Side Dreamers was far too short and poorly paced. I hoped that Otherside Picnic, which has the advantage of spanning multiple volumes, would correct this issue. I am thrilled to report that the Yuri goddess has answered my prayers.
Tumblr media
Otherside Picnic begins as its main character, Sorawo Kamikoshi, is about to drown. After venturing into a mysterious world, the Otherside, she saw a horrific creature, a Kunekune, which infected her mind and paralyzed her. However, she is saved by the appearance of Toriko Nishina, a beautiful and experienced adventurer. Together, the two young women defeat the Kunekune and thus become partners exploring the Otherside to find rare treasures. They sell these items to a woman researching the Otherside, Kozakura, for large sums of money.
The premise is excellent for short monster of the week style stories, or “files.” While each of these files is an exciting adventure on its own, Miyazawa masterfully builds on previous chapters, gradually raising the stakes and the abilities of Sorawo and Toriko. For example, while the two struggle to kill a single Kunekune in the first file, by the end of the volume, Sorawo can use her knowledge and skill to guide Kozakura to help her quickly dispatch four of the monsters. The scenarios faced beginning to escalate as well. They will go from fighting a single monster up to being separated and trapped in an illusion or else stranded with a group of soldiers defending their camp from attack. The pacing and organization of the story is terrific and easy to navigate.
The most engaging part of the light novel is the titular Otherside, a mysterious world full of danger, from horrific monsters to the deadly “glitches,” anomalies that destroy or alter those who step into them. The encounters the girls experience within are chilling and disturbing without having to resort to gross-out tactics. The monsters and many events are taken out of various online stories and creepypastas from the real world. Miyazawa takes these and mixes in some scientific and philosophical theories about fear and human recognition to craft one of the more intricate and fascinating world. However, the real strength of the setting is how the characters interact with it.
Sorawo is rather callous and cold, reacting harshly to others around her. Before meeting Toriko, she had no friends. However, her vast knowledge of ghost stories and the paranormal, as well as her intelligence and ingenuity, help guide her through the Otherside. She has a strange affinity with the other world, being drawn to it as much as she is fearful of it. Yet, its pull on her is nothing compared with that of Toriko’s. Sorawo immediately starts noticing her beauty, regularly commenting on it. As she and Toriko work together more, their partnership increases to a level of codependency. Sorawo does not lust after her sexually, but her reliance on Toriko and the need to be by her side becomes the driving force for her actions.
Toriko is almost the opposite of Sorawo personality-wise. She is kind and cares deeply for her friends, although she has very few companions. Her ultimate motivation in searching the Otherside is to find her old partner, with whom it is implied she was romantically involved, a fact that makes Sorawo jealous. She is more physically capable and confident than Sorawo and is proficient with firearms. While Toriko is not as attached to Sorawo as Sorawo is to her, she relies on the other girl to keep them alive in the Otherside and willingly puts herself in harm’s way to protect her.
Despite being almost total opposites, save for a shared avoidance of other people, Sorawo and Toriko are the perfect pair. Their abilities and knowledge complement the other’s weaknesses and mesh well together. Each one is willing to make sacrifices for the other, and they become something much more profound than friends, although, at this point, their relationship cannot be described as romantic. Despite the supernatural nature of their exploits, there are understandable and human conflicts between the two women. For example, Sorawo is jealous of Toriko’s old partner and she worries that she will disappoint Toriko. On her part, Torik has a tendency to put her wishes and quest to find her friend ahead of Sorawo’s needs. While not all of these issues are resolved in the volume, it completes a great arc for both characters and leaves stronger than they were in the beginning, as individuals and companions.
On a final side note, I want to praise shirakaba’s illustrations, though I do not usually rate or comment on the artwork in light novels. While there are only a few pieces, each of them is detailed with fantastic linework and heavy contrast to create stunning images. My personal favorite is an excellent “girl sits at expensive work station” image of Kozakura. I only wish there was an opportunity for shirakaba to provide more drawings, especially of the monsters. Shirakaba has some beautiful and creepy science-fiction creature artwork online, and it’s a shame that none was present in the volume.
Tumblr media
Otherside Picnic Volume 1 is a brilliant work of science fiction. Miyazawa describes a horrifying yet enchanting world full of challenges for the protagonists to overcome. Each time they do so, the Sorawo and Toriko become stronger and more capable. The solid story structure and pacing helps keep the adventure moving at a reasonable pace and solidifies the physical and emotional growth the characters undergo. It nicely wraps up central conflicts and begins to peel back the curtain on the world and personas while still leaving lots of room for further exploration in future entries. I am eager to read more from this series and highly encourage you to check this one out.

May I please have a match up for Death note and Assassination classroom?
I’m an INTJ, Scorpio,I like to draw/paint and write. When I get the chance to Im very out going but I’m normally very shy and cold at first. I love true crime and psychology sometimes I just watch people to see why they act a certain way I have a very low self esteem and I have problems eating and sleeping, I know how to use people to get want I want and I can change my personality to make the people around me like me a lot better
When I’m in a bad mood I normally just want to be alone and way from everyone except for the person I love or am closest with. I deal with a lot at home so I don’t like being yelled at at all and tend to flinch a lot. When I get comfortable with someone I am very cuddly and clingy.
I have dark blue hair right now and blue eyes, I normally have to wear glasses but don’t if I can help it. My style is punk mixed with grunge. I love dark things but secretly like cute things.
Of course! Honestly I love true crime/psychology too o0o and I feel you on the home life, so I hope these help out at least a little bit <3  I hope you enjoy these!
Tumblr media
Death Note matchup:  L Lawliet
I would match you up with L for a couple reasons, you’re both analytical and observant of people, your interest in true crime and psychology obviously interests him as well. And your initial shy or cold personality does not bother him one bit, he’s a patient man and highly observant himself. He is very interested in your appearance as well, it’s quite unique and draws his attention immediately. When he first sees and approaches you, it’s a bit awkward, because he kind of just stares at you which may be a bit uncomfortable.
Your first meeting was probably a public police press conference, it was discussing the current growth in unexpected and unexplainable strings of deaths attached to criminals.
As always L was there just in the background despite being the one who wrote most the police reports, when he spotted you in the crowd.
You had probably heard about the case on the radio or news and became curious about the details, being a fan of true crime you wanted to see what the police investigation had turned up.
As the press conference went on you began to feel uneasy, when you caught someone staring at you. It was unsettling at first but the moment the dark haired male caught you making eye contact with him, he approached you. His piercing eyes just bore into you as he remained quiet, the two of you just standing there in false silence as the detectives began to talk about their leads in the case.
After that long awkward exchange L finally speaks and bluntly tells you he likes your hair and the “manner in which you dress.”
He curiously asks you about your opinion on the case, if you tried to cater your personality to fit a discussion with him I think he would catch on to the flexibility in your disposition.
L is very interested in what you have to say about the case, any outside perspectives are always riveting to him. If given the chance he is very excited to tell you about his personal theories on the case.
Before the two of you go your separate ways he asks for your phone number or other means of contacting you. And to ease your suspicion of his strange mannerisms he tells you who he actually is, because the time he spent talking with you he decided there was no chance you would be involved with the case, so revealing his true identity wouldn’t jeopardize anything.
It doesn’t take long for him to become attached to you, and he invites you over often to talk about different true crimes and analyze different people in deep intellectual conversations. He really enjoys having someone to discuss these topics with, let alone someone he finds himself becoming attracted to.
Even before the two of you become an official couple he will point out that you haven’t “eaten the proper amount of food necessary to sustain the human body.” And he does not hesitate to get you some food, insisting that it’s important for your mind and body.
Sadly, he is also not the best when it comes to getting rest, so sometimes he will make a compromise, he will join you in trying to get some much needed sleep. If it’s not just because you fail to get sleep, but have trouble falling asleep he will do his best to find solutions for you.
He’ll make you tea, rub your back, play with your hair to lull you to sleep, and if you’re up for it he will cuddle with you to make you feel warm and secure.
L never yells so you don’t have to worry about that at all, besides he’s so patient I feel that it would take a lot for him to become remotely upset. And if someone else is raising their voice he is quick to deescalate the situation. He’s also not a fan of people being loud, and if you’ve told him about your rocky home life he does not tolerate people making you upset.
And while L may not seem to be the type to be into affection, he truly adores it, but he never rushes into it. Especially understanding you are more introverted. Once you become comfortable with physical touch he will always crave to be near you. Not always in extremely obvious forms of affection, but he enjoys sitting next to you with his legs touching your own as your arms press into each other.
He will intertwine his fingers with yours as the two of you sit beside one another. He loves when you lean your head on his shoulder and sometimes he will put his head on your own.
When watching television on his couch he loves being the big spoon, or just sitting up and having you sit between his legs with your back against his chest. I feel he may be a bit touch starved but he only craves being near people he trusts.
I can see him watching you from the side as you draw or paint only to sneak up and gently take your glasses off and put them on, curious as to how it feels to look out of them. He gives them back after checking himself out in a nearby mirror.
Contrary to belief he is not critical about everything, by this I mean he is never critical of your art. He is curious and observant and will ask questions but he will never give his own opinion unless told explicitly to do so.
He appreciates your creativity and believes putting any kind of critical analysis on something you care deeply about, that has to do with self expression, is counter productive.
He also loves getting you gifts, it’s a mix of both your grunge/dark aesthetic and your love for cute things, somehow he finds the perfect things to get for you. Anytime he has to leave you for a job he sends gifts to you to remind you he’s constantly thinking about you.
Tumblr media
Assassination Classroom matchup: Karma Akabane
As for Assasination Classroom there are a lot of good candidates, so choosing a single character to match you with was a close call. Nagisa is a great match for intellect and psychological discussion but his well mannered behavior may prove difficult in breaking through your initial cold exterior. Karma on the other hand is quite smart despite not initially putting his full effort in the series, and his edgy aesthetic and personality would be a great match for your own grunge/punk style. Talk about power couple, he will bring out the best (or worst) in you. He’s slightly teasing but he knows where to draw the line because his intention is not to make you upset just to see your reactions.
If you have even an ounce of sass in you, he’s going to help draw it out, making remarks about others and having you join in makes his heart grow 10 sizes. He’s so proud he can have the effect of making you more confident, even if it’s just because he’s around you.
While he hates to admit it, he’s pretty smart if he would just put the effort in. So while you discuss your interests in criminal cases and psychology he will do his best to entertain you without revealing too much of the intellect he is in public.
Luckily in private he doesn’t care how much he shows off his intelligence, he will hold long discussions with you about different people you’ve seen and the two of you will pick apart their personality and analyze every aspect of their possible psychology behind why they act the way they do.
When the two of you watch a movie you often discuss the characters and maybe how ridiculous the plot is. He’s a savage and will tear down the villains in the media because of how ridiculous they can be. It can get to the point where he’s analyzing the writers at some point because “who would write such a two dimensional character? They’re not even likeable.”
He will not let you neglect your health and will constantly remind you to eat and keep hydrated. Sometimes it sounds like he’s nagging but it’s because he doesn’t want to seem like too much of a softie.
And as for your sleeping trouble’s he’s not going to let those slide either, he’s going to be giving you massages, running you soothing baths, preparing you some tea and bed time activities to help you unwind.
If you’re down to let him cuddle he’s going to do everything in his power to lull you to sleep, tactical hair brushing, rubbing small circles to your arm.
If people yell around you he’s going to go into dark Karma mode and just be little them to the point they have crippling anxiety and just leave the two of you alone. He tries not to be too confrontational around you because he doesn’t want to make you anxious.
But he’s your body guard and won’t let anyone say or do anything that makes you nervous.
In public he’ll let you cling to him, but he insists he’s just being a good supportive boyfriend, and not that he loves to have you attached to his side.
He slightly teases you about your love of the more cute things, but he bought it for you so he obviously cares enough to make you happy. It just really gets him going to have you be expressive, whether you’re telling him off or blushing from the teasing he’s happy either way.

Ali: tl;dr: Somebody draw it for me, and since it was kinda my OC, I decided to use it.
And now the full story - that I told here like 3-4 times so far prompted by asks, so sorry to those who remember it. But this is really full story now. A FULL STORY. ALL THE DETAILS, ALL THE LOGO’S LORE. INCLUDING INFO YOU DON’T NEED AT ALL. BRACE YOURSELF.
Some years ago there was this fan project going on called Overtale, which was supposed to be sequel of Undertale following the plot of monster and humans living together on the surface. Since then the project got cancelled due to various issues and all that’s left of it is amazing music (seriously, listen to it, it’s great), some voice acting sneak peeks with very snarky Asriel and full 3D alpha-demo somewhere.
But when the project was still going on I really fallen in love with it and since I was also deeply in love with Papyrus - and still Am - I started a bit obnoxiously roleplaying him on the game project page in comments. Soon that helped me made friends with other fans of the project and then we gathered in this little group on Skype (oh, those times before Discord existed) with plans to make some kind of a video gift for the developers. And then developers themselves noticed us, and since the game was going to be in open world, we got an opportunity to create a little side town filled with characters made by us and with a short side plot line for a player to complete.
And that let to creation of Ali, red haired, green eyed cat monster, who was  troubled with extreme case of double personality. She was supposed to be one of the shopkeepers in the town. But the town itself was in the midst of a conflict. Split in half, one side supporting beliefs of Sans-like scientist human and other side supporting beliefs of spirtual and kind dog monster. The problem was that Ali loved everybody and wanted to be friends with everybody. She just could not pick one side, it was too hard for her. She ended up developing a second personality, who she claimed was her sister named Ila. And then Ali supported one side of the conflict and Ila the other one. When you would interact with her in the shop, she would try to trick you, ducking under the counter and slightly changing outfits, trying to convince you that one time you talk with her and the other time with her sister, but it was all quite easy to look through.
I even did some digging around now and found old files with dialogue ideas, I think they fit the humour of Undertale quite well, why not share some of them (the stuff in brackets are comments in the shop’s window or random notes made when this was wrote):
1. (conversation)
(talk)
Ali: “Alright, what would you like to know?”
Ila: “Oh, meme-ingful conversation's your thing, huh?” heavy emphasis on the pun
2. (on sister)
Ali: “My sister thinks she's hilarious. I think she's nuts.”
Ila: “My sister thinks I'm nuts. Isn't that hilarious?”
3.  (random) “There's a good reason you never see monsters with guns. A really good reason. Maybe humans use them to kill things, and some humans don't like killing things, and that's why they don't use guns, but our reason is way better, and way more important than that. Gunpowder smells weird.”
4.  (on FKDK versus UFOP - town’s groups conflict) “People have been shouting at each other in the street a lot, lately. I'm pretty sure it's a new sport someone came up with.”
5.  (on Tree of Threes) “Some say that one of the trees just outside town is actually a were-man! It used to be a normal tree, but then one day a human bit it, and now it transforms into a man under the full moon.”
6.  (on Zwelf) “Zwelf once accidentally ingested a plastic donut while absentmindedly working out a problem. I didn't believe it at first. It was a lot to swallow.”
7.  "[talk][new] “Sir Mallow of Marsh... Bit of a mouthful, if you ask me. Why doesn't he just call himself Sir Marshmallow?”
8. (organisations)
Ali: “I support the FDKD, of course. That's the (I forgot the acronym ). They (I don't know the answer to this question ). I suppose you wanna hear about the UFOP too? My sister knows more, I'll go get her.” exits to back room to change to Ila
Ila: “Oh, the UFOP! That's the United Federation of Puns! It's so much pun being a member, we hang out and tell jokes all day, it's great! (idk wtf the UFOP goals are, she woud mention this now). Ugh. There's also the FDKD, but they're lame. No sense of humor whatsoever! Like my sister. Hang on, I'll get her for you, she can tell you more.” exits to back room to change to Ali
So yea, I have much more of those, but that’s probably enough and that was the kind of person Ali was supposed to be!
But then the project got sadly canceled due to personal reasons of the developers. I became quite fond of Ali though. There was more to the whole town idea, eventually it was dropped, then we were supposed to just made OC characters wandering the game world, so Ali changed into wandering merchant you could meet on the road.
And then, since I had a very detailed desctription of how she was supposed to look like:
“Ali/Ila Appearance: Monster. Short-haired bipedal feline, the base colour of the coat being a concrete grey(#95A5A6), with patches of near-white(#ECF0F1), silver(#BDC3C7) and dark grey(#7F8C8D) which have defined edges, mimicking a tabby-blotchy khaki pattern. The face is intersected by a stripe of silver grey(#BDC3C7), running diagonally from just above the right-eye brow ridge, to the edge of the jaw just below the left side of the mouth. She has a narrow face and jaw; a longer muzzle with her pointed eye-teeth showing whenever she smiles; short ears sticking up through her hair; slitted emerald-green eyes(#00FF33) which are an average depth; and a windswept-styled pixie haircut about 5 inches long, dyed pomegranate red (#C0392B). Ali's body is slightly large, with some muscle present but not obvious. Ali wears a close-fitting scarlet(#FB0012) tee-shirt with a high v-neckline and short sleeves about ¼ the length from shoulder to elbow which has a skeleton's skull printed on it to symbolise her admiration for Papyrus, with a sleeveless green-and-brown khaki vest which is unzipped over the top, plain mid-blue jeans, red(#FB0012) canvas tennis shoes with white laces, and a FDKD pin displayed prominently on her vest. When changing to Ila she swaps her khaki vest for a blue hoodie, zipped up to hide the skull-printed shirt, but with a small skull pendant attached to the zipper tag to demonstrate her admiration for Sans. She also wears a UFOP pin prominently on the front of her hoodie. Ali/Ila's tail is tipped with a fluffed tuft of hair, which she dyes the same shade of red as the hair on her head.“
One of my friends took that and comissioned somebody else to draw her for me. This way I ended up with this lovely and amazing thing:
Tumblr media
At first it was all production secret, none of us was allowed to share any of it. But once Overtale got cancelled, the whole project stopped being secret, the main developer even published whole long document with all the plot.
And then I came up with this idea to make a liveblog with Jean and I found myself being extremely lost as to what I should use as the logo. I didn’t want to just grab some picture from the Internet, it just felt wrong to kinda “steal” somebody’s else work. And I wanted it to be something more personal too.
And then I reminded myself of Ali, the cat monster with personality, hair style and color, and fashion choices modeled after me. It felt like a perfect choice.
The time of hanging out with other Undertale fans, coming up with creative ideas, chatting about random stuff and chilling together was one of the greatest time of my life. So having Ali here brings me warm and nostalgic emotions. Maybe she never got to be a character in the game, but I could not just let her fade away. So I took her along for this new project.
The End.

Side Character Lover + some of my favourite ones
Tumblr media
I am sure there are many alike me out there that fall in love with side characters more than the protagonist or the main cast. It’s quite funny though that I never realised this haha. But, as a side character lover, it’s not that I dislike the main characters that this happens, it’s merely that they are not my favourite.
The best example of what I’m trying to say would be in Detective Conan. Conan isn’t my favourite character, in fact Kaitou Kid is. However, it’d be considered lucky to see Kid every 50 episodes lol. But, although Kid is my favourite character (alongside Hattori Heiji <3), I wasn’t very interested in his anime Magic Kaito 1412 where he starred as the protagonist. Personally, I very much enjoy Conan and his stupid “ah le le” findings, his purity (although Ran wins in the category of purity haha) and his desire to uncover the truth of these cases draws me in. On the other hand, I’m not too interested in Kaitou Kid eluding the police and detectives every episode since there’s really nothing to solve besides seeing Kaitou Kid being cool LOL.
The allure of Kaitou Kid is him being able to shine in the limited screen time he has and Detective Conan does that very well, so well that when I was young, I’d chase the episodes hoping and eagerly awaiting for a Kid episode to appear. I still do that now though hahaha. It’s hard to be a likeable protagonist and side character. One appears too much making it difficult for readers/viewers to like everything about them and one appears too less making it difficult for readers/viewers to like anything about them. I mean, you gotta admit that some side characters are so cliche and redundant that they might as well be thin air and you wouldn’t even notice.
For me, Kaitou Kid has the right amount of everything. A very balanced side character. He gauges enough mystery and interest to the reader/viewer with his battles against Conan whilst maintaining a friendly rivalry that is capable of eluding Conan’s grasp every time with his magic. He looks pretty much just like Shinichi but his confidence, his goal and his design is most definitely the most charming in the series for me. However, Akai Shuuichi and Hattori Heiji are hard to pass up on.
Although, I should probably clarify that when I’m speaking of side characters, I’m referring to anyone besides the main cast that appear most of the time. I want to include antagonists but they’re pretty much main in a different way ahaha. I mean, Griffith from Berserk is my favourite but he’s appeared so rarely now that he’s like a side character antagonist haha! To be honest though, I only started this post to revere in all the side characters that I love in Rurouni Kenshin. Naturally, I love Kenshin, Kaoru and Sanosuke but the ones I truly can’t let go of my love for would be Shinomori Aoshi, Sagara Souzo, Saito Hajime, Hiko Seijuurou, Soujiro and Anji. I know, that’s waaay too many but I can tell you that I’ve cut it down already LOL. I do have to acknowledge that I’m probably biased because of my feelings as a kid haha. But, their back stories, their personalities, their views and just everything about them touched my heart. I can tell you, I’ve cried too much watching Rurouni Kenshin haha.
Ace from One Piece will always remain as one of the side characters that I’ll always love and most probably never forget. I can tell you that when that OP chapter came out, I literally cried for hours and it wasn’t even just a few tears, it was like literally bawling because I was just that sad. It didn’t help that I loved Ace ever since he first appeared so reading that chapter and just thinking about it now breaks my heart to pieces. Needless to say anymore, it was absolutely devastating.
Kite from Hunter x Hunter was also my favourite side character alongside Hisoka (if you consider him one hahaha), Pakunoda and maybe Illumi hahaha. Kite has always interested me, he doesn’t appear much at all but when Gon thinks about him as a sort of goal as well and everything, I got quite attached to him.His appearance in the Chimera Ant arc was one I deeply enjoyed as well. Sadly, everyone I like apparently dies lmao. And no I don’t acknowledge the Chimera Ant version of him haha, I mean...you can’t do that to him T__T
For a bit of change of pace (it’s not fun if I always talk about NANA haha!), I’ll mention two characters in an old anime that people probably don’t even remember that didn’t do much but nevertheless, their existence has been engraved in my heart as a kid because of their character design and personality as the older common sense adults. They would be Haru and Yurika from Final Approach. They have the common role of being the adults that talk some sense into our main characters but I think their voices, characters and character designs were done so well that when I was a child, I literally thought they were perfect. They still are, in my heart haha. It’s crazy how this was nearly 13 years ago, dangg.
Anyway, all I really wanted to say was how much I loved them LOL. I was gonna go more into the difficulties of liking a protagonist or main cast and side characters but I guess I’ll just leave that for another time hahaha.
