“i don’t like thinking about luck because if things happen by chance then that means i have no control over what happens to you two or your kids.”
burrow’s end is a story about family, a story about loss. it’s a story about a scrappy family hanging on by their claws to survive and keep going.
but i feel that, more than anything, burrow’s end is about motherhood. being a mother, raising kids, losing a spouse. being so, so, so scared that the world is going to mistreat your children and there isn’t anything you can do about it.
tula and ava mirror each other. their grief manifests in different ways, but ultimately it means they keep going. and they’re watching viola about to start the same process. they’re going to watch viola worry and stress about her babies and they’ll be there for her. (hopefully)

fourth wing boys (Aaric, Brennan, Bodhi, Dain, Garrick, Liam, Ridoc, Sawyer, Xaden) x reader
how our favorite boys would take care of you when you’re on your period [request]
words: 588
🏷: no book spoilers. gender neutral, no pronouns used. mentions of periods, cramps,, etc. soft and fluffy. these are kinda short bc it was hard to not make them repetitive — I think they all give excellent care + cuddles 🥰
Aaric is a quiet support kind of guy to me. he’ll be by your side, but not overbearing or too touchy. really good at playing with your hair and massaging the back of your neck if you get migraines (like I do) he also sleeps flat on his back and perfectly still like a total weirdo, so he’s great to use as a body pillow.
Brennan is the number one man for the job, and I’m not just saying this because he’s my favorite. he’s a mender, so he can literally stop your pain, and he can get stains out of clothes super easily. also just a very nurturing and gentle person, takes excellent care of you all week.
Bodhi is going to use this as an excuse to cuddle you and take naps all week (I love how the Bodhi girls have collectively decided that he’s just a lil cuddlebug 🥺). expect lots of murmured words of affirmation about how strong you are and how much he loves you.
Dain, the overgrown boyscout he is (I say this affectionately) is prepared. he knows when that time is coming up, and he is properly equipped to take care of you. has everything you need in both his room and yours. also gives a 10/10 back massage (canon, actually.)
Garrick insists that you spend the week in his room, because his bed is more comfortable (it honestly is) and that way he can take care of you. he’s very nice to cuddle up with. lets you sleep in his clothes, too, for maximum comfort. has a secret stash of all your favorite snacks, too — he’s been getting them from the fliers. don’t tell Xaden. (Xaden totally knows, and is also getting snacks from them.)
Liam makes sure you’re eating even if you have no appetite, and that you’re staying hydrated, etc. you might grumble about it, but absolutely nobody can say no to that face. he knows not to take it personally if you get mad at him, because you’re hormonal + in pain. gives fabulous cuddles, too, and lots of sweet words.
Ridoc knows not to make any jokes at your expense or fuck with you when you’re feeling fragile, instead showering you with cheesy verbal affection to get the grumpiness out of your system and get you feeling a little better — as much as you can, when you feel like your insides are being ripped out. uses his hands like ice packs for you, holding them on any place that’s particularly achy.
Sawyer was a little awkward about it at first, but now he’s a seasoned boyfriend who knows what you need and does it without you needing to ask; snacks, cuddles, back rubs, so on and so forth. helps you with whatever’s particularly difficult this week. ties your shoes for you so you don’t have to bend down and strain your back, etc.
Xaden can sense that you’re in pain, and the minute he’s able to, he’s scooping you up and whisking you away to rest in his arms. abuses his wingleader privledges a little bit, letting you have the worst day(s) off. don’t bother trying to lie to him and say that you’re fine — he knows you aren’t. don’t question the sudden change in his normal tough-guy persona either; just enjoy it.
++ none of these men are at all scared or grossed out by a little blood. they’re men, not boys, and they’re used to it anyway, going to this deathtrap of a school.

This latest Adventuring Party really drove home my favorite aspect of Brennan's DMing style. He genuinely loves seeing his players succeed, even against odds he considered to be nigh insurmountable.
Let's take the Last Stand as an example. Now, Brennan made no secret out of the Last Stand encounter being very hard, and for people who do not play D&D it may even seem like he overhyped it, but from a mechanics standpoint, the CR, functionally the difficulty rating of this battle royale was sky-high. Yeah, none of the Bad Kids went down, but that is entirely thanks to a combination of excellent strategic play from the Intrepid Heroes and some choice luck.
To mention some of the game changer moves, the Scatter spell really re-defined the battlefield more favorably for the Bad Kids, the disguise self was a value proposition because it split the flying monsters, which was the greatest threat to the proctor by far, in two, functionally halving the threat to the squishy normie, not to mention dealing with the mega-mosquitos in combo with Spirit Guardians. Those little flying bastards would have been such a pain in the ass if Fig didn't bug zapper them to kingdom come. And the bless. Dear god, the Bless saved so many asses in this encounter.
This isn't to say magic was the only thing that defined the battlefield. The single-target damage dealers did some truly astounding numbers and managed their attention and abilities shockingly well. Yeah, Gorgug crit like a madman, but he also tanked like three or four non-barb PCs worth of effective HP damage without going down even once. If he had failed his saves and gotten eaten by the Purple Worm things would have gotten nasty for him, but again, the touch of luck (and bless) saw him through.
So, this is all to say that this was an encounter meant to kick the players' ass. Not an unwinnable one, evidently, but this was supposed to be a considerably worse experience even without getting into the non dice-roll exam questions. And how does Brennan react when the Intrepid Heroes put their game face all the way on, get really smart with their level 1 spell slots, and dismantle the whole thing? He's overjoyed, he's cheering for his strange adventure children, and we're cheering with him because frankly it's rad as hell.
This illustrates one nuance I feel sometimes gets glossed over about the DM-player relationship. A lot of people have talked about how Junior Year is the "Revenge of Brennan" or what have you, and I feel that kind of misses the central appeal of DMing and Brennan's style in D20 in particular. Yes, Mr Mulligan enjoys playing the heel on occasion. It's good fun to play the personification of everything going wrong and the inherent shittiness of the world, but like the wrestler heels, all that wicked charisma is meant to do one thing, and that is build up the faces, or the players in this case.
Now, the ghost of Gary Gygax may come after me for this, but I firmly believe it's not the DMs job to kill the player characters, or even to inconvenience or torment them. A good DM's job is to make it seem like they're going to kill the player characters, as to provide an environment for the players to succeed, a challenge for them to overcome. It's all one big improv exercise (or kink scene if you prefer to view it that way), where the DM derives their (near)absolute authority over the world the PCs inhabit from the shared understanding that they're going to show the players a spectacular, if not on occasion harrowing, time.
This is Brennan's biggest strength as a DM I think. He genuinely wants to make a spectacular time for his friends, and he understands that to do that he must on occasion be the monster they oppose, and on occasion he must be their breathless cheerleader. On occasion, one imagines, he must also be both.

I think it's very interesting--and I mean that genuinely--that overwhelmingly in the past week or two, the responses I've seen about Relvin have centered around the idea that "he should have fought" for Imogen or that "he should FIGHT" for Imogen. I've seen this particular line pop up quite a few times in slightly different ways, and I think maybe we should unpack this a little.
Because in the physical sense, Relvin can't really fight. By that, I mean his stats probably look like Gilear Faeths and like, yeah, you can argue that Gilear tagged along during Sophomore Year and therefore, so could Relvin. But Gilear also *spoilers* died three separate times in a 20 episode span, and is only alive at the end because Emily loves him so fucking much and Brennan's resurrection rules in FHSY are more lax than Matt's. Particularly post-Solstice, where there is no resurrection to be had at all if Relvin were to die. If you want Relvin to join the Hells and Fight The Moon And Ludinus Too, it's really not feasible even on just a physical level. That's not even engaging with the question of "why would the Hells even want him there?" They wouldn't. He'd be a nuisance at best and a liability at worst.
If you want to him to Fight The Moon sans the Hells on his own, he's really not capable of that either! He's not a scholar, he's not a magic user, he's--he's a groom. A stablehand. He can't "pick up his pitchfork" (that he shovels manure with) and stand defiantly against the forces that face Imogen & Co. He's really, truly Just A Dude. Which is kind of the point I've been trying to make about him. He's lived his life around extraordinary people, and he is not extraordinary. He doesn't have the tools to fight something like this, which is part of his tragedy. Is there a world where he quits his job, leaves his horses and his home and his life and tries to become a warrior for the sake of his absentee wife and the daughter he loves but doesn't know how to love the right way? I suppose. But wouldn't that be a different story than this one? And isn't it worth finding the meaning in the one we're experiencing now?
If this argument is that he should have fought for Imogen on an emotional level i.e. having been there for her more or more outwardly shown her affection, we kind of run aground of the same problems. The ask here is that we fundamentally change Relvin's character to make him something that he is not. He is a man who struggles with emotions, and was probably desperately scared about what Imogen was experiencing when it happened and didn't want her to feel his fear. Or his thoughts about her mother. And so, yes, he pulls away (for a variety of reasons). And there is a conversation to be had about his choice to withhold information about Liliana--it's questionable. But, then, every option he was presented with was questionable. What do you tell Imogen, who was abandoned by her mother when she was two? That her mother is dead, or that her mother abandoned her? You pray Imogen never develops the same debilitating powers as her mother, but when she does? Do you give her the comfort of knowing someone else had the same powers, the same struggles, at the expense of prompting more questions about her mother? Do you take the chance to be peppered with questions about how these powers work only to helplessly look on and say "I don't know," and maybe send Imogen down the same road as her mother even sooner than she actually did?
There is no good option. There is no heroic version of Relvin that makes all the right choices and becomes Imogen's white knight father, endlessly supportive and wholly committed to her. The situation is too complicated, and Relvin, frankly, is far too much Just Some Guy to be able to really grasp what Imogen is going through or to fight it in an active way. But I do think it's interesting that this seems to be the version of Relvin that the fandom would have found acceptable.

I think that the Steel moment from this first episode of Arc 3 is so juicy.
There's some thread about trust and family and how it intersects with the machinery of Empire.
Sort of like, Steel is Suvi's mom, but also her boss commanding officer. And when you work with/for family, there are some lines that can get blurred. We've already seen how this has some benefit to Suvi. In the leeway she has for messing up. But now we see how it cuts the other way when Steel is using the trust she has as her mom to get Suvi to comply with her orders for her job.
Aabria played it brilliantly, sort of noting that she's having this moment where her friends have damaged her trust in them (and Steel really made a hard case to her last arc about trusting anyone but her... like trust me, trust us, maybe don't trust whoever gave you that prophecy tho... oh how sad everyone is too wrapped up in secrets to trust. >.>) and needing fundamentally someone to trust in, so in a situation where she wants to push back, she feels cornered by this need and her need for acceptance and love.
And as I've seen others note, Steel setting the scene super casually as to invoke her family tie rather than her official tie is epic manipulation tactics.
I love the way Aabria and Brennan are building this world together.
And I think it's the tension in Steel's character that Wren observed, that Steel is of the Citadel first and everything else second. Which is why she didn't refer to Steel as someone to be implicitly trusted.
And someone who belongs to an institution first, particularly an imperial institution, can be a lovely person who is nice and who loves their family and who also turns around and does fully horrific acts for their institution. Steel could have been responsible for Suvi's parents' demise and still sleep decently at night if she took those actions for the good of The Citadel/Empire.
Brennan: let's explore how the doers of evil deeds are sometimes nice people interpersonally. An excellent nuance to learn.
Yeah some bad guys are mustache twirling bastards who are rotten to their core. And some bad guys are nice normal seeming folks just doing banality of evil stuff as part of a system.
It's like in real life you have your active pursuit of bigoted behavior folks, full blown fascists, costumes and all. And then you have your folks who are perpetrating the violence of the established imperialist system on folks. And the "if they weren't guilty, why didn't they do thing that wouldn't have stopped or helped the situation" folks.

How is Ally misinterpreting Bucky? (genuinely curious)
I think what you're referring to is Ally misinterpreting Helio. They come away from their interaction with Helio in episode three as him having been a "frat boy" but that's just not at all supported by what happened. Here's the transcript of everything Helio said in season one:
Helio: [ethereal, soft spoken] Wow! Kristen, it's so good to see you. Kristen: Whoa! Helio: I've known you your whole life, but now you get to see me face to face. This is great! Kristen: Whoa! Brennan: You see he gives you a big hug. It's the warmest hug you've ever felt. Kristen: [sighs] Brennan: As he's hugging you, you feel your backpack jiggling around. You see he's clearly got his eyes closed in the hug. You feel Arthur slip out of the backpack now that he is past the threshold of heaven. Kristen: [shocked chuckle] Aguefort: [shushing] Don't tell anybody! Brennan: And winks and sprints into heaven as fast as he can. [Emily laughs] Kristen: He was so fast! Brennan: [laughing] You see Helio. He looks up and says, Helio: What? Kristen: Hm? Helio: What are you talking about? Kristen: Oh, I was, mentally saying goodbye to a friend I was remembering. Helio: Here's the thing, Kristen. We checked. It's not your time. You have more work to do. Kristen: Oh my God! Helio: I know you're gonna do a great job, and I care about you. And what's more, I know that you care about your new friends and I think that's cool as hell. Kristen: Thanks. Helio: Hey. Kristen: Hm? Helio: Go knock em out down there. Kristen: [laughing] I will. Hey, can I ask you something? Helio: Yeah! Kristen: Why is there so much suffering in the world? Helio: [fingerguns] Later!
Ally has religious trauma and that's valid and they already had Kristen's loose character arc mirroring their own IRL in mind so in combination with it being their first time ever playing D&D it's completely understandable that things were a little rushed and muddled. But the fandom has totally taken Kristen's evaluation of Helio completely at face value despite it not matching up with what the audience actually saw.
So now people are like "Buddy will find out what Helio is really like", and it's like, you mean a compassionate, encouraging giver of warm hugs?

Dropout Does Nerdy Prudes Must Die
I am a massive Dropout and Team Starkid fan (if the latter isn't obvious enough from looking at my reblogs) and I feel like there's a lot of overlap between the fandoms. My criteria for being considered a "Dropout Person" is anyone who has appeared on a Dropout show at least once, excluding guest appearances (so for example, Monet X Change counts because she's been on one season of D20 and an episode of Um, Actually, but Laganja Estranja doesn't count because she was only a guest on one of the Legally Not Survivor episode of Game Changer)
I will be trying to factor in voice types where I can, but there will be some instances where I just assume the person can sing the part, because I don't know if the person can sing or not. Also, I will be casting each of the individual parts, I know the actors in the OG cast play multiple parts, but there are so many talented people in the Dropout roster that I can cast each part individually.
Please enjoy. Also spoilers for Nerdy Prudes Must Die, I don't think I can talk about this without them. And also for Dimension 20's A Court of Fey and Flowers.
Max Jagerman: Grant O'Brien
I'll be honest, my main motivation for this one is that Grant looks a bit like Will Branner. He does play the heel really well, and I think he would do a great job playing Max, especially his more Freddy Kruger-esque quipping when he's dead.
Also, this is pretty niche, but in an old College Humour year-end video, where they all pick their favourite skits of the year (I think it was like 2018 or 2019?), Grant talks about how he thought it was really funny that in the Jocks and Nerds Both Think They're The Underdogs sketch, he was the closest thing the College Humour cast had to a jock, and this feels pretty similar to that.
Grace Chastity: Anna Garcia
She has a very unhinged "I am short and I will make that everyone else's problem" energy about her that you really need to play Grace. I think she would also do great with the physical comedy needed for the part.
Peter Spankoffski: Omar Najam
Awkward, nerdy guy who falls in love with the baddest bitch in the cast and would die for her. Am I describing Peter Spankoffski or Prince Andhera from A Court of Fey and Flowers? Also I want to hear Omar sing Cool as I Think I Am.
(This is a joke, love Binx but clearly Delloso De La Rue is the baddest bitch in A Court of Fey and Flowers)
Stephanie Lauter: Surena Marie
I don't have a real explanation for this one, this is vibes.
Richie Lipschitz: Ross Bryant
Watching Ross work his way through all the possible nerdy white guy rap options in Game Changer Karaoke cemented for him that he needs to play one of the nerds.
Ruth Flemming: Izzy Roland
A part that requires the performer to be deranged and horny? Call Izzy Roland!
Solomon Lauter: Brennan Lee Mulligan
Any Dimension 20 (or Critical Role: Exandria Unlimited) fan knows, Brennan is amazing at playing callous, cruel and manipulative characters, so Solomon Lauter is right in his wheelhouse.
Wiggly: Josh Ruben
Josh is so good at voices and playing weird characters, I would love to see his take on Wiggly.
Blinky: Erika Ishii
Erika Ishii is absolutely unhinged, I had to cast them as one of the Lords in Black. They could honestly be any one of them, but I picked Blinky because the voice Lauren Lopez does reminds me of Erika.
Nibbly: Lisa Gilroy
This one is also just vibes, but the vibes are correct.
Tinky: Zac Oyama
I am the head of the Zac Oyama As Weird Little Guys fan club, and what is Tinky if not a weird little guy? (who is also a chaotic evil eldritch being)
Pokey: Mike Trapp
I mainly just went off the vibes of the "What do you want Steph?" line, I think Mike would do well.
Detective Shapiro/Female Reporter in Hatchet town: Rashawn Nadine Scott
This is the only one I'm casting two parts, because they're both relatively small (and also I fully forgot that Bryce was not playing Detective Shapiro in Hatchet town until I checked the Genius page lol). Anyway, I think Rashawn would do great at acting as Detective Shapiro, but the main motivation behind this choice is that I want to hear her sing Bryce's part in Hatchet town. She would murder it as hard as Max murders nerdy prudes.
Officer Bailey: Jacob Wysoki
You need someone to chew scenery and throw props? Call Jacob Wysoki, he'll eat it up and go back for seconds
Brenda and Stacy: Jujubee and Monet X Change
I want to see them do the Go Go Nighthawks cheer, I think it would be amazing.
Jason and Kyle: Zeke Nicholson and Ify Nwadiwe
They both seem like the kind of guys to give butt slaps (consensually of course).
Mark and Karen Chastity: Zach Reino and Jess McKenna
They both have Awkward White Parent energy, and I think they would be very funny in this part.
Miss Tessburger: Vic Michaelis
Watching them play Vic Michaelis in Very Important People makes me think they would be great as the haughty assistant.
Miss Mulberry: Katie Marovitch
Katie just has "That nice teacher who lets students eat lunch in her classroom" energy.
Dan Reynolds: Lou Wilson
You need an icon to play an icon.
Emma and Paul : Emily Axford and Brian "Murph" Murphy
Dropout's iconic married couple to play Hatchetfield's iconic couple.
Hard Cuts:
Ify Nwadiwe as Max Jagerman:
He would have slayed the acting, but I assume based on his speaking voice that he's a baritone on the lower end of the range. However, if I am wrong about this and he could sing the tenor part, please treat him and Grant as tied for the part in my eyes.
Ross Bryant as Solomon Lauter
Vic Michaelis as Detective Shapiro
Erika Ishii as Ruth Flemming
Tao Yang as Peter Spankoffski
Jess Ross as Karen Chastity
Jacob Wysoki as Max Jagerman
Wayne Brady as Dan Reynolds
Aabria Iyengar as one of the Lords in Black
Anna Garcia as Blinky
Brennan Lee Mulligan as Wiggly
Lisa Gilroy as Grace Chastity
Grant O'Brien as Solomon Lauter

Ok, I'm a little horrified that Kristens neglect killed Yes!. That's a downer. And I guess poor Cassandra needs more than two worshippers to exist properly. Hopefully, crisis mode will help Kristen focus up and be NICER TO THEM. It's possible Kristen's crap attitude might be insecurity or guilt. She hasn't been doing the best job spreading Cassandra's gospel and just feels like she's failing them so she's lashing out. And Gorgug and Zelda breaking up bummed me out.
I think D&D is an…interesting but flawed avenue to look at religious trauma. In the same way that X-Men for instance can be used to make some interesting and engaging points about real life prejudice but the metaphor is imperfect because civillians in the marvel universe kinda have a point to be scared of the fact that a random teen with bad self regulation could suddenly manifest the power to blow up people he doesn't like with his mind (even if he doesn't mean to) whereas, irl, Black people or Jewish people or gay people are just people and if you're scared of them then that's a you problem.
Similarly, the religious trauma metaphor goes a little weird in a world where your god is just a person who 100% exists and gives you concrete superpowers every day. I've always felt this way about Kristen's various arcs and it's especially noticible to me right now because I get where she is on her arc, but it hits different when what she's running from is a girl who is emotionally her age and who counts on her for her existence rather than like…the IRL Catholic Church, you know?
She's being very callous in a way that feels very harsh, even though I know she def needs to go to therapy and there probably hasn't been a lot of time for that. And the fact that Cass looks just like her from a year ago really makes it seem like there's some internal, self-hatred or something she needs to work out. Likely some guilt there too--maybe from doing a bad job or for wanting to quit the religion thing alltogether or something else or a combination.
Because of the snippets of interviews I saw, I'm trusting that Brennan and Ally have a plan here, and I see how this could be the setup for something interesting. But yeah, I don't really find it fun to watch Cass get treated so poorly.
And yeah, RIP to Zelda/Gorgug but that's pretty typical for a high school relationship and at least that seems to have ended on good terms.

listened to RCCC finally! the very noncomprehensive and subjective new info. Under the cut because it's very long:
Matt's both excited and terrified for the potential this campaign to really deconstruct what came before and it does sound like he is unsure what precisely to expect
Everyone is excited for more of the Shattered Teeth; Taliesin holding out for the moon as "favorite landmass"
Ashley could go even harder with Fearne's chaos and the cast encourages her to do so
Sam really loved FCG and FRIDA's relationship and he and Christian texted about it a lot during that arc! (Christian throws some credit to Aabria's encouragement)
Unsure if FRIDA is a werewolf
Ruidus "noticed" Chetney and Matt has more to reveal...
Because Ashton's rage was heavily directed towards that lack of knowledge about their past they are clinging very hard to the reveal of the Titan of Blood and what that might mean (also, fun talk about Taliesin's theme of Holes In The Past); it's also giving them a sense of feeling robbed.
Marisha really loves how Orym has built upon the Ashari lore; Liam loved seeing Orym's family, which was very important since Orym's childhood was, unlike Vax and Caleb's, a happy one with an extended family
History of Shattered Teeth was heavily influenced by the collaboration with Brennan for EXU Calamity
Imogen spent a long time thinking Liliana would have her back and feels extremely abandoned; she loves her powers and doesn't want to lose them, but doesn't see another option given the harm of the Vanguard.
Fearne is not worried about being Ruidusborn, as she is perfect :)
Chet long rest rolls are, as we know, real. The cast (Travis included) think this is hilarious. Travis does NOT have a backup character. Matt points out that they should uh, probably do that. Liam jokes maybe Bertrand will come back instead.
The duality of aeormaton; FCG defeating Shithead and within a day asking the creatures on Slival to shit on him. Matt regrets this worldbuilding detail; the cast does not.
Orym is an exploration, in a way, of imposter syndrome; he feels responsible but does not feel like he is the right guy for the job. Marisha notes that Liam's vision for Orym was very much as a sidekick, but then found the group was all somewhat conceptualized as go with the flow.
Taliesin's favorite rage is Time, but Space is also fun. Liam loves the immovable rod in the hammer; Matt also does.
Travis is the best and good things come to him; he enjoyed Graz'tchar a lot for the brief time he had it, but also thinks it's way better to give the sword to Novos and see what happens.
Ashley wanted to snoop in the captain's quarters and did not intend to seduce him but he wouldn't leave, and so. Fearne did get a boon with the HP reduction, but it's a secret for now. (Christian adds that FRIDA getting to be there for a Fearne theft was an honor)
Marisha's notes are copious but as a result they are 10% useful, 90% "WE SHOULD CUT OFF LUDINUS'S HEAD." [which to be fair is imo useful]. Sam points out there's a lot of lore. They shout out Dani.
Sam jokes sarcastically about seeing his past characters when the cast at large is asked (Marisha, Liam, and Taliesin all answer but it's mostly the same as when they've talked about it on 4sd).
The cast is busy and have not seen a ton of other shows lately but Sam does confirm he recently watched Jury Duty; Marisha and Matt like watching creepy movies and video essays together.
I feel they should uh...screen mental health related questions a bit harder; it's not that it's not important but I get the sense it's really difficult for the cast to answer to a live mic when they're here to talk about d&d.
Who would they swap character sheets with in Bells Hells: Travis and Marisha would both be Ashton, Taliesin would be Chetney, Ashley would be Laudna or FCG, Sam would be Fearne, Liam would be Laudna, Laura would be Fearne.
Sam has no dice superstitions. Laura disputes this; Sam will put dice in jail if they roll too poorly.
Voodoo donuts has dick donuts, to Laura's great joy. [I will say I suspect the reason they are going to RCCC is that LA to Oregon is an easier trip than to the east coast. also I cannot tell which cast member (or possibly Christian) said "I want a dick" but yes, much like Laura, I did laugh.]
Someone asks about the Titan Blood idea because they also have this concept in their campaign! Matt says that this made sense given that Ashton was transformed to a Genasi as part of his backstory.
An impulse that Ashley didn't follow through on was setting the Omen Archive on fire; she thinks it could have gone very badly and Matt confirms he did have a battle map ready
Has Vex seen the bug? YES (Laura tells the story in Vex's voice; Liam interrupts as Vax; Matt interrupts as Trinket)
How have your characters affected your worldview? Taliesin jokes it's therapy; Laura says it helps you empathize with people around you by pretending to be someone very different than yourself. Matt agrees that it's a reminder to treat everyone as individuals. Liam especially notes that Caleb taught him to accept the challenges within life without trying to escape them. Marisha encourages a self-insert to start, but to branch out after that. Travis says anyone of any age can have an adventure.

Hello, I would like to request Bones imagine or headcanon or whatever you'd like of Zack Addy in a romantic and domestic life setting with his S/O please?
The Breakfast Anomaly (Z.A.)
After a long week at work you decide to start your day off by making breakfast for Zack. But when he decides to help you it takes a disastrous turn.
Word Count: 1,864
Warnings: s1!Zack, gn!reader, eating, food, egg violence (you’ll see)
Tumblr media
I love geniuses who don’t know how to cook
You were coming home from a long day at work. A long week actually. Identifying bones that had been ground into tiny grains and then finding the killer was no easy feat. The hours were long and the rest was little. But now the case was over. The killer had been caught and you could finally take a break. Dr Brennan had given you all a couple of days off and you were going to make the most of it.
You drove in silence. Zack sat half asleep in the passenger seat, his head knocking against the window at every bump in the road. When you finally made it home you both instantly slouched into bed, too tired to do anything other than kiss each other goodnight.
The next morning you woke up late. You could still hear Zack’s rhythmic breathing beside you, letting you know he was still asleep. Suddenly, you were hit with a wave of hunger. Then you realised that, the last couple of days, you’d been so focused on your job that you barely took time to eat much other than a few oat bars and whatever you could scavenge from the vending machine. Zack was the same. This new, uncomfortable feeling forced you to slowly pull yourself out of bed and make some breakfast. As you pulled on a hoodie you looked down at Zack’s sleeping figure. He shifted slightly, adjusting to the absence of your body beside his. But, from what you could tell, he was still sound asleep. That’s when you decided to do something nice for him. You were going to make him breakfast in bed. It was your day off after all. You had plenty of time.
You quickly rifled through your cupboards for ingredients and finally decided to make him pancakes. You had the ingredients neatly laid on the counter and were about to start baking when you heard movement behind you. You spun around to find Zack walking groggily into the kitchen.
“No! Ugh, you’re not supposed to be here,” you complained.
“Good morning to you too,” he replied, his voice raspy from sleep.
“Sorry,” you said, pouring him a cup of coffee. “It’s just, I wanted to make you breakfast in bed. But since you’re not in bed anymore, I can’t really do that .”
“I’ll happily go back to bed if that’s what you want,” Zack smiled, taking the steaming cup from you.
“Yes, please do. This is our day off and we’re going to do it right,” you said, practically pushing him back towards the bedroom.
“No, no, come on. I can’t let you do this by yourself,” Zack rebutted. “Let me help.”
You couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m sorry, you, Zack Addy, want to help me cook? Have you ever cooked anything in your life.”
He thought for a moment, scrunching up his nose. “Does toast count?” he asked.
“No, toast does not count,” you grinned.
“Please let me help,” he begged. “How hard can it be?”
You gave in, letting go of him and walking back over to the counter. “Ok, just please do exactly what I tell you to.”
“I live to serve,” he smiled, way too enthusiastic for the simple task of making pancakes.
You shook your head, laughing at him. “Ok then, first of all, hands,” you began, moving to the sink to wash your hands. Zack followed you. When the water came pouring out of the tap, onto your hands, you playfully flicked some of it at Zack.
“Hey,” he yelled, his shirt staining dark from the water.
“Whoops,” you smirked, grabbing a towel to dry your hands.
Next, you told Zack to read the recipe. “Please just read it,” you pleaded. “Just because you’re a genius doesn’t mean you can randomly guess what the ingredients are.”
Zack picked up the book and spent a minute skimming through it. “Got it,” he said. “It’s locked up in the photographic memory.” He tapped his temple confidently.
“If you’re so confident, what do we have to do first?” you asked.
“We have to mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl,” he explained.
“Good, let’s do that,” you said, looking for a wooden spoon in the drawer.
Zack carefully measured out the flour, sugar and baking powder and poured them into a big bowl where you mixed them together.
“Alright, I’m surprised there’s been no disasters yet, so let’s keep going before I jinx us,” you said when you were done mixing.
“Now we need melt some butter and add it to the dry ingredients,” Zack said, as though he were reciting the recipe in this head.
You melted the butter, which was now a scalding pond of yellow liquid. “If you spill that I will literally kill you,” you threatened as Zack carefully carried it from the stove to the counter.
“I work with delicate bones for a living. I think I can carry a bowl from one place to another.”
When he finally safely made it to the counter you poured the melted butter into the other bowl. Once again you stirred the ingredients together. Meanwhile, Zack walked over to the fridge.
“What are you doing?” you asked.
“Milk,” he said, walking back over, measuring it out and pouring it into the bowl as well.
“Wow, you’re getting the hang of this,” you smiled.
“Did you ever doubt me?” he replied. “Now, let’s cook them. I’m starving.”
You got out a frying pan and sprayed it with oil. “I’ll do the first one to show you how to do it,” you told him.
You poured a dollop of the mixture onto the searing pan. It looked a little different than you thought it should look, but you shrugged it off. It had been a while since you made pancakes. Maybe you just forgot what it was supposed to look like?
“See these bubbles?” You pointed with your spatula to the bubbles forming at the side of the pancake.
“Mhm,” Zack hummed, leaning in to see what you were talking about.
“When you start to see these, that’s how you know it’s time to flip,” you explained. You lifted the pan off the heat, concentrating on what you were about to do next. You jerked your hands and the pancake flew into the air before landing neatly back on the pan.
“Obviously, you don’t have to do that,” you said, placing the pan back on the flame. “You can just use the spatula.”
“No, I want to,” Zack protested. “It can’t be that hard.”
You chuckled but decided to humour him. “Ok, genius, give it a try.”
When the first pancake was done you allowed Zack to pour more mixture onto the pan. He waited in anticipation for the bubbles to appear, his eyes wide like a puppy.
“Can I do it now?” he asked, excitedly. You looked down to find the edge of the pancake dotted with tiny bubbles.
“Yeah, it’s ready,” you confirmed. Immediately Zack lifted the pan. You instinctively took a step back. “Just, please be careful, Zack.”
Zack exhaled deeply, preparing himself before he dramatically tossed the pan. The pancake rose into the air. You winced as it almost hit the ceiling. But just before it made contact, it started to fall... right onto Zack’s head.
You couldn’t help but burst out laughing as the uncooked side of the pancake slid down Zack’s head, onto his face.
“Oh my God,” you both said in unison.
When you finally recovered from your fit of laughter you grabbed a towel and attempted to wipe Zack’s hair. But instead of cleaning it off it sort of just smeared it in.
“It’s fine,” he sighed. “I’ll shower after we eat.”
“Maybe you should stick to using the spatula from now on,” you suggested. Zack reluctantly grabbed it from you, rolling his eyes.
It took a painfully long time, and by the end of it you were both ravenous, but eventually you used up all the batter.
“Finally,” Zack said, getting plates while you looked in your cupboards for syrup.
You both sat at the table, the stack of pancakes in front of you, Simultaneously, you hungrily reached for one and doused it in syrup. You shoved it in your mouth and the first thing you tasted was the sweet syrup as it coated your mouth. But then, when you started to chew, the taste of the pancake itself became apparent. Your chewing slowed and your face contorted in disgust. You turned to Zack and his expression mirrored yours.
“Ew,” he mumbled through his mouthful of food.
“Yeah, something’s not right,” you said. You placed your fork back on the plate and forced yourself to swallow the mouthful as you got up to check the recipe.
Flour? Check.
Sugar? Check.
Butter? Check.
Milk? Check
Eggs?
“Oh my God, eggs!” you shouted when you realised the fatal ingredient you’d forgotten.
“Ah, that would explain it,” Zack said matter-of-factly.
“You are an idiot,” you chuckled. “So much for that photographic memory of yours. How is it possible that you can literally reconstruct a skull but can’t bake a pancake?”
“Hey, I’m tired. Give me a break,” Zack retorted.
You sighed. What were you going to do now? You were still starving.
“Maybe we should just go to a café for breakfast,” Zack said, as though he were reading your mind. But then you had an idea. You couldn’t tell if you were delusional from still being so tired or if the eggless pancakes had somehow altered your brain chemistry, but you were suddenly overcome by a childish urge.
“We could…” you began, picking the untouched box of eggs off the counter. “But we still have some uncooked batter. We could just add the eggs to it.”
“We do? Where?” Zack questioned, looking puzzledly around the room.
“Right here,” you said, taking an egg from the box and slamming it on the part of Zack’s hair that was still smothered in batter. The egg cracked and its contents dripped onto Zack’s already messy hair and all the way down his face. His jaw dropped and he scoffed in shock.
“Oh my God,” he yelled in the same tone as before.
You didn’t know whether to laugh or feel sorry for him. But before you had time to do either, Zack had grabbed an egg from the box in your hand and smashed in on your head.
“Hey, what the hell?” you shouted as the cold egg trickled down your nose.
“Now we’re even,” Zack smirked.
You shook your head but smiled back at him. “You are such a child,” you laughed, wiping some egg off your face that was about to fall into your eye.
“You started it,” Zack replied.
“And now I’m finishing it,” you said, taking the box of eggs out of his grasp before he reached for another one. “Now let’s go and get cleaned up so we can actually go and buy some proper food.”
“Can we get cleaned up together?” Zack asked, raising his brow.
“Oh, grow up,” you smirked. Nevertheless, you began pulling him into the bathroom by the neck of his shirt.

🚨SPOILERS FOR FANTASY HIGH JUNIOR YEAR EPISODE 7🚨
Dimension20 "Fantasy High Junior Year"
Episode 7 "Stress Tested"
Timestamp: 00:36:06
Video Length: 4min. & 43sec.
Adaine gets a job at Basrar's! 😆😀
Brennan: "Who else knows what their DC 5, their first focus and priority's gonna be?"
Siobhan: "I'm gonna go job because up until now my academics are pretty good. So I can focus..."
Brennan: "You are not in danger of expulsion."
Siobhan: "Exactly. So, I can have one week where I dip a little bit."
Brennan: "Hell yeah."
Siobhan: "If I have to."
Brennan: "Let's see what the roll is."
Siobhan: "Omg, I thought that was a one. It's not. It's a seven. But plus four, which is an 11. Oy-yi-yi."
Brennan: "And what skill are you rolling for that?"
Siobhan: "Investigation."
Brennan: "Cool."
Murph: "You do have a bardic."
Ally: "The DC's five though, right? Didn't you totally pass 'cause you picked it for your first one?"
Brennan: "Yes, you did. So this-"
Siobhan: "I did, but I still, I need to get to 'well off' to not roll with disadvantage for my Academics. And 'well off' is a 25."
Lou: "What did you get?"
Siobhan: "11."
Murph: "Oh, okay. Yeah."
Siobhan: "I mean, I basically can only get a 25 if I crit because all of these skills, I don't have anything good in."
Brennan: "But you do have Bardic and if you want to re-roll." *tempts stress token and rattles the box* 😭✋
Emily: "Well, what about Divination rolls? I would think, especially with investigation."
Siobhan: "Well I- I rolled my Divination rolls."
Emily: "Oh, Okay."
Siobhan: "I used one. And the other one is also not very good."
Emily: "Okay."
Siobhan: "So, um..."
Ally: "Are you gonna re-roll or are you gonna add Bardic to that?"
Siobhan: "I mean, maybe I will use my Divination roll. So that brings me up to a 15. And then, I'll-"
Emily: "Can I also give you Bardic? So that your-"
Brennan: "I think we're gonna only allow one Bardic per."
Siobhan: "I'll use my Fabian bardic to see if I can-"
Lou: "It's a d8 now."
Siobhan: "Ooh!"
Siobhan: "Let's see if I can get it up to 20 at least."
Brennan: "Cool."
Siobhan: *rolls* "Nah."
Adaine to Fabian: "But thank you anyway. I appreciate your friendship."
Fabian: "Hey, you can always come by an get an espresso."
Adaine: "Thank you."
Ally: "You made a dollar."
Brennan: "Adaine, go ahead and roll two d10 and you get that many silver pieces."
Siobhan: "Okay."
Brennan: "As you do so, let me ask you. There are a couple different job opportunities. Part-time counseling at the student center. There's some other part-time work around. But you do see there's a job listing for a server at Basrar's."
Siobhan: "I mean, I'll do that. If I work at Basrar's can I get advantage on Popularity?"
Ally: "Ooooohhh."
Brennan: "We're actually gonna cut over and see this little scene. So, it's the first week of school. Like, I guess you head out. Basrar's is not too far from Mordred Manor. How do you like- what's going through Adaine's mind as you walk off to apply for a job at Basrar's?"
Siobhan: "I mean, I feel pretty good about it because me and Bastard already have a great relationship. I also have that thing of like, I really enjoy going to Basrar's. And so I'm like, 'So working there will also be great.'"
Brennan: "Yeah."
Siobhan: "So I think I'm going in very optimistic."
Brennan: "Basrar looks at you and says,"
Basrar: "Adaine, the Elven Oracle."
Adaine: "Hi!"
Basrar: "It is wonderful to see you."
Adaine: "Oh yeah, you don't have to- you can just call me Adaine. Actually I was wondering, I saw you had a part-time job available and I would really love to..."
Siobhan: "I just hand over my résumé, which is 'Elven Oracle' and then 'one week of working at Oodles of Strudel.'"
Basrar: "And do you have any references from Oodles of Strudel?"
Adaine: "Unfortunately, the entire mall was destroyed in a cosmic incident."
Basrar: "No email address or?"
Ally & Lou laughing 😂😂🤣🤣💀💀
Adaine: "No, unfortunately. No, and I actually- I was gonna say I could give you a reference for the Elven Oracle, but I actually don't know. I guess my sister. Yeah, I could- yeah, she's an elf."
Basrar: "Great. I'll give her a call right now." *waiting to hear the number*
Adaine: "Yeah. Great."
Basrar: "I don't have her phone number."
Adaine: "Oh. Yeah." *gives the number to Basrar*
Brennan: "He punches it in. You see him over in the corner."
Basrar: "Mmhmm. This is Basrar of Basrar's Soda Fountain calling for an application for a job for one Adaine Abernant. Just wanted to hear any reviews as her work of the Elven Oracle. Mmhmm." *continuous nodding*
Siobhan: "I start texting Aelwyn."
Adaine's text to Aelwyn: "What the **** are you talking about? What are you doing? Don't ruin this for me. I'm so broke."
Brennan: "You hit Send. A winky face comes back and he goes,"
Basrar: "Ha ha, a bit. Yes, very funny. Good. Yes, yes, yes."
Brennan: "You see he hangs up and says,"
Basrar: "Great, you can start working right away."
Adaine: "Oh, amazing. Thank you. Amazing."
Brennan: "All he has to do is summon ice cream. So it's an easy gig for him. It's just you carry it. He's like,"
Basrar: "Some of the ice creams have gotten very complicated and are hard to carry."
Brennan: "And there's like huge tureens and sundaes and boats of stuff."
Siobhan: "I'm so good at carrying things because I have a Mage Hand. So I'm doing a regular carry, but then my Mage Hand is also carrying three ice creams also."
Brennan: "Hell yeah."

THANK YOUUUUUU😭💕🥹🫶 this week has been so terrible and I literally squealed when the chapter was posted and told everyone in my house not to speak to me for 4 hours. Loved this chapter sm 😭 wish I could erase my memory and start the fic over again
I was one of the people asking when Cat would appear again and I’m so happy Violet verbally bitch slapped her and we should’ve gotten more of this in canon
Violet falling asleep in the library 😭 she couldn’t sleep in the bed by herself I’m gonna scream
What was Xadens unreadable expression about when she was untangling herself from the blanket? What’s he thinking in that moment?
Garrick being so afraid of Violet is literally the funniest thing to me considering he’s bigger than Xaden 😭
I wonder if Xaden feels some type of way now that Violet is pretty much on good terms with/forgiven everyone except him and Brennan. I’m sure he understands why he deserves her anger but feelings aren’t rational and he’s possessive af
Can’t wait for the heist omggg. This version of Cam is hilarious and such a little shit I just know he’s gonna cause problems and Violet will actually have to step in and protect him from Xaden😭
Lastly I love iron squad sm. Them acting cold to Liam is nothing tbh because at least they liked him. Xaden, honey, you got a big storm coming.
Thank you so much!!! I hope your week gets better 🩷🩷
Xaden is feeling so many different things right now. He really didn’t want to invite Violet on this little expedition, so most of it is that he’s warring with himself internally about actually doing it and the potential danger it puts her (both of them, really) in. Also taking care of Violet in the little ways and touching her is pretty ingrained with him, so he’s having to remind himself that he can’t interact with her like he normally would and he’s not a fan lol
Garrick is probably the character with the most respect for Violet and he is the one who constantly sees beyond her fragile exterior to what’s underneath. He’s never for a moment forgotten what she’s capable of, and that just because she seems nice doesn’t mean she can’t kill him easily. He’s a general; his job is to evaluate people for their usefulness on a battlefield or to gauge how much of a threat they are. He knows they’re lucky Violet is on their side
Xaden would never begrudge Violet having friends or people on her side. Would he love to just tie her to his side forever? Yeah, but he wants her to be safe and cared for too. If he can’t do it, at least people he trusts can help with that. He’s also got enough of an ego that he knows it means she cares for him more/differently than the other so that’s good for him I guess lol
I love Cam 😭 and the squad 😭 they’re my babies

Conned by Kim Fielding - 4.25/5 stars
Odder Still by DN Bryn - 3/5 stars
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig - 4/5 stars
Ended up enjoying this one a lot more than I thought I would. Definitely one of those philosophical-books-masquerading-as-fantasy books, but it was well written and the message resonated with me.
A Draught of Ash and Wine by Kristin Jacques - 3.75/5 stars
Draakenwood by Jordan L Hawk - 5/5 stars
This may have been the first in the series that I handed a 5 star rating to. Not that the rest of the series isn't really good, but this one stood out to me as being really REALLY good.
Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr - 5/5 stars
Another one that I enjoyed WAY more than I thought I would. I normally don't go for books that do the whole characters-connected-through-time-by-the-same-story trope, but this one was very well done. The characters in the different time periods definitely played to things I love. The fact that it was unexpectedly queer was also such a nice surprise. This book is heavy going, and I wouldn't say it's exactly happy, but it's hopeful. A hyped book that was actually worth the hype.
Blyde and Pearce by Kim Fielding - 3.5/5 stars
Bring Me Home by Annabeth Albert - 3.75/5 stars
Jackdaw by KJ Charles - 5/5 stars
AHHHHHH omg omg. Oh this book. Ripped my heart out and stomped on it, then tenderly mended it. Ben and Jonah are one of the sweetest couples Charles has ever written. Maybe the sweetest? (considering there's a very dubcon-y sex scene at the beginning, this may seem like a strange thing to say, but really). I actually far and away preferred them to the main couple in the original Charm of Magpies trilogy. To be completely honest, I like all the Charm of Magpies World books better than the original trilogy, haha.
The Rest of the Story by Tal Bauer - 4.25/5 stars
Fool Hearts by Emmy Sanders - 3.75/5 stars
Shadows of the Lost by Maxym M Martineau - DNF at pg 60
Actually not a bad book at all, but it was too dependent on the author's previous series, which I didn't have any interest in reading.
The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro - DNF at pg 26
All the Right Notes by Dominic Lim - 5/5 stars
Lovely, funny book that had lots of music and cooking. It's told in a split time period structure which I thought worked really well.
Witch King by Martha Wells - 5/5 stars
I LOVED this book. I love Kai so so much. He's total blorbo material, so I'm honestly surprised this book isn't bigger on tumblr. The worldbuilding was immaculate, really interesting, and very refreshing in that it was very central Asia inspired. You don't see Fantasy Asian Steppe Cultures very much, so that was really cool. This is another one that is told with a split time period, and Wells did a really good job of tying the events of the past and the present chapters together thematically.
I really really really want a sequel.
And Then He Sang a Lullaby by Ani Kayode Somtochukwu - 4/5 stars
One of the reviews of this book said it had a very didactic ending, which I 100% agree with...but it was very well-written and worth a read. It takes place in Nigeria and is about two gay boys who eventually meet in college. It's not a happy book; don't be fooled by the blurb that makes it sound like a romance.
The Lost Future of Pepperharrow by Natasha Pulley - 5/5 stars (reread)
You guys all know how I feel about Natasha Pulley.
The Master of Samar by Melissa Scott - 3.5/5 stars
Unnatural by Joanna Chambers - 5/5 stars
Fence: Disarmed by Sarah Rees Brennan - 5/5 stars
This book was so cute. Aiden and Harvard both finally pull their heads out of their asses. One of the unexpected joys of these novels is the relationship between Seiji and his father. It's really sweet.
I would fund Sarah Rees Brennan to continue writing Fence novels.
The Archive Undying - 2/5 stars

So- Uhm hi! So so sorry if this is a bother, but I noticed you answered some questions about DnD, and me and my siblings have been trying to get into playing.
We decided I'd be the DM, and I've been doing a fair bit of research. I was wondering if you had any tips for a beginer DM? I just really want to make sure I do a good job! Of course feel free to ignore me! I don't want to be a bother!
Have an amazing day/night!
Omg so sorry it's taken me forever to answer this but I do have a few top tips (and also I tag a lot of helpful things as 'DM resource', 'DM tips', 'DM advice', or 'Dungeon Master' on my blog)
Tips are:
Being a DM is like any performance - no one knows how it's meant to go except you. Don't stress if things go to plan, if you go with whatever's happening it often ends up being more fun. And if you're a bit flexible, no one will be able to tell that things went off plan in the first place
Have a session 0 where you establish expectations and build characters - doesn't matter how well you think you know each other, this is always helpful. Also establish a safe method people can provide feedback/raise concerns with you
In the session 0 also establish that you want them to tell you what things went well lol - this helps you cater to what everyone wants but also combats something I think is commonly termed like 'DM drop' or something (where you're flying high during a session then get mad anxiety afterwards)
Don't feel pressured to do things like any DnD podcast/show!!! People like Matt Mercer and Brennan Lee Mulligan are literally paid to DM! They have way more time, experience and support that you do! I even disagree with how they rule things from time to time. DM for you and your table - you'll find your own DM style in time
It takes a while to get a hang of things - and that's fine. I only really fully hit my stride with my current group last year (we've been playing since 2017 or 2019 depending on how you're counting)
Start simple!! Do something fun and silly for the first session. You can get imaginative later, make things easy on yourself
Anyway I hope this is helpful! Feel free to ask more questions for sure! DM-ing is fun and I love it haha

okay watched ep 2 of fhjy and as anyone might imagine I've got thoughts. under the cut.
lots of fun things this episode! haven't watched the AP yet btw. i'm mostly writing these down myself so I'll go character-by-character, but some overall stuff about the episode:
whatever episode one was doing really paid off here. by itself, the full episode of battle, apart from being excited by all the new intros, was a bit frustrating especially since I wasn't sure how they were actually going to be able to reel the night yorb in, but they did it in this one! with lots of time left over for other stuff.
and with both episodes out, (as i suspected) that really frustrating feeling from episode 1 carries a lot more meaning--brennan making everyone fight those minions was perfect icing on the cake. as well as all those personal troubles at the end. but that gets into character stuff, so:
riz:
riz gukgak is one of my favorite characters in the universe. when i watched fhsy baron happened and i obsessively took notes the whole season bc i was like. riz is aroace and i can prove it. as you can imagine i nearly died when my green heaven released
anyways, pretty much everything riz has done has been so, so, on brand for what I'd think he'd do, so that's great--i feel like I haven't gone wrong in understanding him, which is cool
one of the big things that seems like we'll be getting this season is riz's attachment to his friends, by which i mean he feels like he can't hang out with them unless there's a job to be done. he's got this bit in the boys' night extra where riz says "it's usually like we kind of have this whole group dynamic where all of us come together and we solve these problems together. and when I don’t have a problem to solve, I don’t know what to do with myself." which is pretty much exactly what's going on here. as brennan phrases it, riz has basically just told his mother "I have a pretty a hard time connecting to my dearest friends whose lives I've saved many times unless there's a problem, so I can feel useful."
and this like... deep sense of anxiety around being alone, that's kind of a really deep part of riz's character, right? penny luckstone was his babysitter--closest thing he had to a friend. riz cares a lot about the case, but he probably also cared about the only connection he really had. and now the bad kids are his connections. he wants to be with them, like, forever, and half of his worries about all those romantic entanglements is that everyone is going to prioritize themselves and their romantic partners above him, and since he doesn't... want that kind of thing, where does that leave him? alone? forever? with no place to belong? he's already one of the only goblins we ever see in the whole time we've been in the land of spyre.
and I think what's really heartbreaking about this, at least to me, is that riz so clearly and obviously loves and adores his friends. he doesn't have a problem expressing his love! and I don't think he really even doubts that his friends love him, too. it's just that. i don't think he can deal with the possibility of being without them. and he doesn't know if the fact that they like each other is enough to keep them together. but hey, world-saving does.
sklonda was so good this episode, too. was particularly affected by when she told riz "you do everything for other people, and I want to make sure that you don't get your heart broken" because it's just... yeah. also that's such a real struggle money-wise with college in particular... I really kind of hoped we could maybe help sklonda out with her case, but, it is her job, after all. see where riz gets his board from haha. but seriously, she's just... such a good mother. every time the gukgaks interact it's so warm to me because riz and sklonda just... so obviously care for each other, so carefully. like. not a single bit of resentment or frustration coming from riz once sklonda tells him he might need some to put some extra pressure on himself, and it's partially being fine with pressure, partially not acknowledging his problems, and partially that he's just a good kid and knows his mother's doing the best for him. so he'll do that for her, too.
who bets that riz will not talk about any sad feelings in front of his friends this season!!! anyways that was so goddamned long, because I'm crazy about riz. the rest will be way quicker
anyways no one except ME is reading this. haha.
fig:
so, I'm fully convinced that gilear and fig swapped lucks. the sour, curdling feeling? very gilear yogurt. also the kicker was icing on her shirt. real yogurt moment there. and with all these kisses of fortune gilear's getting, I'm convinced that's what's happened for fig. very interested to see how that messes with her coolness
I'm also really interested in fig actually taking bard classes. i do have to wonder how it might go... I know emily like, does music, so I wonder if any of her knowledge there might come in handy
also very interested in seeing how any of the aguefort quangle stuff is gonna mess with things this season! even the little bit of ayda we saw was so good.
kristen:
so, like, obviously, cassandra's not doing so hot, because they've only got two followers. i think it's really interesting how non-pressuring they are towards kristen because like. for all the pestering they don't actually seem to outright mention that they aren't doing so great
also kristen seems in a pretty bad place this semester, but I'm hoping that the stark reality of expulsion is actually going to make her think about like, getting her life together. i'm really interested to see where it'll go because like. i dunno. i'm not much of an evangelizer myself.
more than tracker being away, it must sting additionally that like, apart from being in a possible breaking up state, tracker, right now, is being the like, perfect cleric. like she is reforming and adding nuance to her faith and stuff in a really really big way!! which is the kind of achievements kristen should be doing. but you know. they're world saving and things are... they're pretty tiring. (must've been nice talking about the moon goddess during eternal night, i bet)
ragh is also back and i'm so glad bc i love ragh. also 100% that red crystal lydia barkrock's been dealing with is gonna be relevant. i really hope that he has somewhat of a presence this season because like, he was around in fhsy, but ragh's like... idk, he's cool, and I feel like he's rich enough in character that he's got places to go?
adaine:
loved the little aelwyn mention. that nemesis abjuration is such a deeply aelwyn way of looking out for her sister
i am really excited to see adaine trying to get a job, personally. and i do hope we get to see more of zayn darkshadow bc he's just a really chill and nice minor npc in my opinion
fabian:
i love fabian's parents as equally as i hate them, and this scene exemplified it. they like... give him things, and look after him, but they're not really... supportive, are they? in an emotional way. no time to talk, and he's 18 now, so they're totally fine leaving him alone for months. they can be the cool parents that let him throw awesome parties. and hallariel saying it's a great thing to be his father's son... I don't know, bill seacaster's like, kind of a shithead?
so that'll be interesting. and he wanted to go to dance camp...! i hope he really does get to explore that passion more during the school year. truthfully i have to wonder how his grades are... riz and adaine are doing great, fig and kristen are doing terribly, gorgug is probably not the greatest considering his rage, but fabian? I'd be interested in knowing what's up with that
also they don't directly answer whether they're taking all the staff iirc, but judging by how hallariel mentions that food is just set up with an account, it may be that he can't even like, talk to cathilda or anything. which sucks!! it really does suck.
gorgug:
in some ways, zelda and gorgug breaking up was a little anticipated. still, it does suck. but it's not like he really had the time for anything
i wonder how this interacts with the timeline of the seven: that's in her junior year and sam seems to still refer to gorgug as zelda's boyfriend, and stuff, so I wonder if it's a retcon or I've got the timeline wrong or that I haven't quite finished actually watching the seven. anything could be fine--personally I think gorgug and zelda work really well as solo characters, so like, who knows
edit: in the AP brennan said zelda graduated so the events of the seven have likely already happened... that does bring up the question of why things dont line up but like. i can handwave time shenanigans in my head. especially with the quangle.
could be kinda fun if gorgug and ragh bonded a bit more this season.
thistlesprings are great parents, of course. love that they offered to fix the hangvan, or work on it together, and I'm really hoping their supportive energy is gonna help gorgug out this year. i have to wonder if there's gonna be any strangeness with gorgug meeting any of the thistlespring extended family, now that they're hosting this festival
speaking of this festival, it's the same one that sklonda's working a case related to!! i want to get my claws into this mystery so bad
ok that's about everything. gonna watch the AP now! my final thoughts... it's so frustrating that these bad kids have saved the world multiple times over and done so many things, and it's not like... enough, not even close. but that's a very real thing I felt during junior year of high school and that I'm sure many people felt--that I'd spent all this time developing myself as a person and becoming better and doing some pretty interesting stuff, in my opinion, but when I put it all out on like a resume or a college application or whatever, it looked like nothing. even though it was absolutely meaningful and important, it was nothing.
