#personal#so i try to never involve myself in Fandom stuff much#aside from the occasional art piece or fanfic#but like... i like this one ship. its 'het'. and easily one of the most hated ships lmao#and like. theyre doing that thing again of shoving the girl aside bc they want their uwu gays to be canon instead#which like i get it you want gay rep thats fine and completely understandable#but this character has just as much chemistry with the main girl who is a real character and i think people just hate it bc#if (and probably when) it goes canon itll make the main straight#which like first off thats not how it works in the real world lol im in a straight passing relationship but im not straight#and i know they wouldn't make him queer officially but its still there in the subtext#but its okay if he ends up with this girl bc it still works. and it might not even be for romantic reasons they get together lmao#anyway im not against the gay ship but people fr need to remember what genre we're in lmao#and being upset about it maybe going canon is fine but like. tbh the ending of the story has much bigger fish to fry like pls pay attention#him possibly getting with a girl isnt the end of the world#but the stupid shit theyre doing might be. good god. what a weird direction theyre going in. but ill see what happens#ANYWAY. im gonna continue to like this ship bc i think it's cute and just block people who dont like it lol#like not to be petty or whatever but im curating my experiences bitch!

Being a part of a franchise with a huge fandom fucking sucks. Like yes you find content more easily, sure, you're fed in that sense. But trying to scourge through AO3 when half the people don't understand how the tagging system works (namely tagging het ship fics as fucking m/m or f/f for whatever moronic reason) is a huge pain in the ass.
You made an OC? Congrats, everyone in the fandom has one and no one fucking cares about yours unless it's an evil twink. Everyone is infinitely more talented than you in both the art and the writing department so you're drowning in jealousy.
There are so many canonical characters you love. None of which get the attention you wish they did because everyone's decided to fawn over Glup Shitto, a man you've never encountered because you can't attain the one piece of the franchise media they show up in (or simply don't care about them). In general, you're seen as a lesser fan for liking Media X instead of Media Y, which like half of the fandom considers superior. Hell, some of the people will claim Media X is trash and doesn't count for shit and will actively shittalk it. Not criticize, that you can handle, knowing full well that Media X has its problematic sides. You're willing to discuss that. They're not. Because interacting with Media X in a form anything other than bashing is cringe.
Literally none of this matters. I'm yelling into the void because I'm mildly uncomfortable. The world is on fire and the smallest, most insignificant thing makes me irrationally irritated. I am so, so tired.

following on from @withercrown and @snarwor 's conversation about what's wrong in dinluke and din xreader fandom and i gotta say: god i love being the second-smartest one in the relationship
Tumblr media
witty used the phrase "early fandom consumers and late fandom creators" and this REALLY stuck out to me. i'm so much more interested in the creation side of fandom than the consumption side. imo fandom is at its zenith when:
there are creators who all separately love the source material
because they love it, they all have something to say about it
because they are all different people, what they have to say is different too
they come together to share their love for the source material AND to show off and share their ideas with each other
this constitutes 'fandom'
when i was on the old dinluke server, a large number of fans AND a large number of PEOPLE ACTUALLY WRITING FIC had never seen the original trilogy. they had only read fic. they weren't writing luke because they had no idea who luke was or what his story was about. they were writing an OC.
there's plenty of mainstream - straight, normative - fandom for star wars. these are fans who share a love for the source material AND are satisfied with the romance already served up in commercial media. lgbt fans, who want a love story they can relate to, typically do not fit in very well with this part of fandom.
it is not ok to have to choose between mainstream straight fandom and a fandom inundated by people with only a light-touch interest in the thing they're purportedly a fan of, in favor of recycling yet more het romance tropes forever. fandom is at its nadir when spaces that should be for fans who were inspired by the same book/movie/whatever and want to create something out of it for themselves, instead become oversaturated by orbiters, bullies, and clout-chasers.
Tumblr media
i think statistics like hits, likes, and kudos have seriously spoiled the atmosphere of fandom. they encourage people to be seen by mimicking whatever currently has the largest number of clickable heart jpegs attached to it, rather than by creating something fresh or unique. they facilitate cults of celebrity that are cringingly inappropriate in fandom. and they incentivize and reward authors who write for the lowest common denominator - the largest spread of appeal across the board.
snarwor is right to say that luck is a significant proportion of what causes a fic to gain a high popularity metric, but it's not the whole story. not all ships even have 'top-rated' fics! as in, there might be a fic that is technically top rated but it doesn't have that many kudos and the spread is more even across fics for that ship as a whole. banality and het-compatible tropes make a fic far more digestible to a large number of people, and that's a feature that is frequently essential for something to gain a high number of likes/kudos.
especially as fandom becomes more mainstream and increasingly less marginalized people take an interest in fanfiction and fanart (which was NOT the case 20 or even 10 years ago), it's pointless trying to pretend that the endless, exhaustingly bland heteronormativity pervading the most popular works in these fandoms doesn't precisely echo the endless, exhaustingly bland heteronormativity in mainstream commercial media, which imo is because it's exactly the same.
the focus on statistics and kudos rewards work that falls just the right side of inoffensive across the greatest spread of people, which is pretty much the exact opposite of 'work that has something to say'. and exactly like in commercial media, this occurs completely at the expense of marginalized creators, whose takes and experiences are generally less easily digestible and therefore all the more important to be heard by people who otherwise would not encounter them. the place for marginalized creators to be seen and heard is supposed to be fandom communities, which imo have been essentially gentrified into sort-by-statistics ranking boards - and this can't coexist with the concept of a community of creative equals.
the extent to which a fandom is a community vs the extent to which it is a league table varies, and many fandoms are still more community than not. i'll still be creating for those fandoms. if you're the least bit concerned about fandom becoming an atmosphere best suited to mainstream heterosexist romance, misogyny-lite tropes, bullies, and commercialized clout-farmers, i think it's worth considering how the statistics mechanism - if you will - un-queers the pitch for everyone involved.

I have seen someone respond to my point about how if sun and yang were gender swapped  Iwould still ship blacksun sun x blake
by going well then you wouldnt care about genderbending if a rwby remake happens where blacksun does happen ( ie saying I shouldnt care about genderbending  sun and yang in a rwby remake
( because I brought up the idea of a remake to them )
but here is a thing I bet if in original rwby bb direction change didnt happen and blacksun did ( like say erase the bb teasing moments in v7 onwards like nora comparing renora to bb
and when blacksun reunited  blacksun happened)
and say there was a rwby remake  if say that rwby remake had gender bent yang and sun and in that remake bb happened they would get pissed ( I know that so I am holding them to that standard of not budging on no genderbending (
good writing and ships are more important then lgbt representation
it doesnt matter that there are only a few same sex ships canon or shows in general  good writing is more important than that representation
it doesnt matter that bb was more popular then blacksun ( popularity doesnt mean there is evidence appeal to popularity is a fallacy
and you dont get to claim if a ship is popular it deserved to be canon and only apply that claim to  just same sex ships
if you go on a tangent complaining about how if there is a popular same sex ship and they dont become canon
and instead they are paired with someone else you dont get to attack shippers of a popular ship or pretend its different
all I see is people who make it about the genders involved or acting like lgbt rep is most important thing ignoring the writing which is actually more important
if say a same sex ship was teased for years but then all of a sudden that ship was thrown out and ignored and a het ship was forced in  they would be pissed crying queerbaiting  no amount of going but  look at how many times a  same sex ship  didnt happen blacksun shippers have a right to bash bb
bb being a same sex ship doesnt make it exempt
it doesnt matter how little lgbt rep are in shows etc
all that matters is the buildup
its not even like bb not becoming canon means there would be no lgbt rep in team rwby since they could still make freezerburn or white rose canon ( if thats all they care about is genders involved sorry but quotas arent important I recall someone trying to argue that if you kill off a gay character who is part of the main cast you have to replace him with another one when no you dont
gay people arent exempt from dying in shows they are characters who happen to be gay its not automatically bury your gays for a gay character to die
)
bb feels like a direction change even if bb was planned it doesnt change that it had no buildup in the story  something being planned isnt the same as building it up look at how i met your mother for example they planned for the ending for years but the characters ended up developing to the point they moved past that ending but they kept to it which feels like regression
they gave blacksun so much that it even if bb was planned they should have abandoned that plan
( the people who  defend it on the basis of lgbt rep ( I am sure that there are many ) or who shipped it because they wanted lgbt  are the ones who shipp based on the genders involved who care about that kind of stuff while claiming that people who criticize bb in favor of blacksun are the ones who care about that
they go there are tons of shows where het ships become canon as if we give a damn
they claim that if bb was m/f you would ship it with no basis
and it feels like projection given all the times I saw people complained about het ships becoming canon instead of the w/w ships they claimed would have been believable
I could easily say that  they would not ship bb if it was m/f   they would instead ship blacksun seeing it getting years of teasing etc
or that they if yang and suns genders were swapped they would ship blacksun

Sorry (and feel free to ignore) if this isn't your purview, but do you have any thoughts on the racism angle of the Anti debate? Not gonna lie, the most convincing (*and* the angriest) anti-AO3 arguments I've seen on this site were from PoC disgusted with how it wouldn't take down stories fictionalizing and sensationalizing stuff like George Floyd's murder, or Atlantic Slave Trade/Holocaust AUs. I haven't yet seen anyone muster a decent counterargument to that.
--
Beware of censorship because you may not be the one deciding what the bad content is.
That is the argument. People just don't understand it or don't agree with it.
Here's the thing: AO3 was explicitly set up to protect art, regardless of horrificness. That is the point. There is no such thing as beyond the pale for AO3, just legal or illegal. This is right there in the ToS. There are specific historical reasons why this is AO3's stance and mission.
It's not a stance and mission everyone is down with, and I can respect that... but if they want a different kind of archive, they need to make or move to a different archive.
Most fic archives have some level of taste or morality-based content rules. FFN does. Wattpad does. Skyehawke did. All the single-fandom or single-topic ones do, if only in the sense that they ban off-topic fic. The big non-English archives like Ficbook and EFP do. Dear god, especially, EFP where you can't write derogatory things about religious figures, among many other rules. Archives that ban tons of shit have always been the norm. Having multiple archives has also always been the norm and continues to be.
If people see AO3 as all of fandom, that's on them.
What AO3 is is one of the few archives that won't delete m/m or f/f dark fic and kink. This fact is directly tied to its extremely hardline anti-censorship stance. A lot of the anti-AO3 crowd fundamentally does not get why this is the case or dislikes how popular m/m is and doesn't care.
AO3 protects reprehensible art for the same reason the ACLU defends Nazis.
If that's not the kind of free speech above all organization you're into, that's fine, but then AO3 is not for you.
On a more specific note, I don't trust people demanding deletion because the vast majority of wanks aren't about things I personally agree are disgusting (hot takes on George Floyd or whatever) and are instead about My NOTP Is Inherently Bad shipwars or top/bottom fights. Or even worse, they descend into "This fan of color is a traitor for liking the wrong kinks". (If you think people don't call each other inflammatory language like "race traitor" over shipping all the time, you're naive.)
People always think they know when an author is white or straight because they write things Wrong or their mind is too fucked up or whatever, but it's bullshit. There is no reliable way to tell why someone wrote something or how much is their intent and how much is poor writing skill. AO3 is a safe space for writers to post without threat of deletion. It is not and never was a safe recs list for readers. That's not its aim.
Anti-AO3 people try to portray this as brave POC striking back against white oppressors, but that isn't how it ends up. Deletion tools are going to be leveraged hardest against other POC who fail to live up to some impossible double standard.
--
Now, as for whether OTW/AO3 should try to be better and help marginalized groups of fans of all types use AO3 more easily, of course they should. The non-bullshit version of that looks like better blocking tools to hide whatever you personally find triggering or gross. Blocking tools, not deletion.
Many anti-AO3 types dislike this approach because their abusive rants about how your kink is bad or you should ship het instead of m/m would get blocked.
But as lierdumoa said in a cogent explanation of how AO3 actually needs to improve, are people looking for solutions that protect POC... or do they just want a chance to punish?

Fic Writer Questions!
Thanks to @redmyeyes for the tag!
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
82, although that's not even close to my actual total. There's a bunch on LJ that have never been transferred (all shorter works)
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,780,805 (over 2mil on LJ)
3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Mostly three, plus a couple dips into a few other pools. X-Men Comic Book fandom, Buffy & Angel fandom (they kinda count as one since it's the same universe), and Supernatural & SPN RPF. Dips have included Dragon Age, Firefly, a tiny bit of TVD, a Sons of Anarchy crossover.
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
This is tough if I go by numbering. Homework Verse has the most kudos scattered across all parts, but Stranger Than Fiction has the most as a single story. Anyway...
Homework Verse (J2 RPF, 200k+ words) - My very first RPF fic, Supernatural or otherwise. Two of my online fandom friends basically TOLD me I was going to write Teacher/Student J2, and I kept protesting that I drew the line at RPF. They didn't care. 200k later, here we are. This story was a game changer for me; it made me fandom famous. I still love those boys with my whole heart, and they still talk to me sometimes.
Stranger Than Fiction (Sam/Dean, 50644 words) - This story idea took root immediately following the episode The Monster at the End of This Book. I quit the Big Bang I'd already begun writing for that year (which was Who Watches Over Me, which I finished and posted for BB the following year) to write this story. It just took hold hold of me and took over. I wrote it in 6 weeks and it was easily the most fun I ever had writing anything--I cackled like a madwoman most of the time.
Who Watches Over Me (J2 RPF, 96591 words) - This story was, at the time, the toughest thing I'd ever written. Little did I know that would become the norm and not the exception, as I began to write more complex stories. It was by far the longest story I had ever posted all at once in its entirety (rather than chapter by chapter) and I had no idea if people would like it. Fortunately a lot of people did.
Like Staring Into the Sun (Sam/Dean, 23243 words) - Ah, my very first hardcore Wincest fic. I remember writing the first chapter of the story (meant to be a one shot honestly), and just sitting there, at 5am, being terrified to post it. It was twisted, dark and intense and SO porny I was scared people might think I was weird. There wasn't anything like it out there at the time. As it turns out, people loved it so much I ended up writing eight more parts.
Like a Fish Out of Water (Sam/Dean, 59498 words) - I have a lot of love for this story. It didn't come to me easily, but it was fun to write. I remember smiling a lot and just having a nice, warm cozy feeling the whole time. I had no idea if anyone was interested in reading this many words of what amounted to a dramedy curtain fic
Of course there are other stories that I feel deserve love, but I can't argue with these.
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I do. And by that, I mean I try. I don't always succeed in answering them all, but I answer as many as I have time and energy for. Life is busy and there is writing to do as well. I read every comment I get (multiple times) and I feel guilty for all the ones I don't answer, because they mean SO MUCH TO ME. Like you took time to leave this beautiful, well thought out comment, or even a keysmash, or a heart, in response to something I wrote. That means the world.
I WISH there was a reaction function for comments on Ao3, so I could heart things, or laugh in response. Replying with emojis without words feels weird. So yeah, a reaction function would be amazing. But in the meantime, I do my best.
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Hmm. Probably A Touch of Evil. Interestingly, it's also a HAPPY ending, so there you go lol. It's a serial killer love story with a happy ending that comes at an exorbitant price.
8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
I'm not sure why the OG post skips from 6 to 8 lol . So, yes, I have written a few minors crossovers. Mostly Faith in the SPN verse with the boys, nothing too crazy, because she fits right in. But for long stories, I have written all of ONE crossover. It's Dean Winchester/Jax Teller (SPN / Sons of Anarchy). My crossovers so far have tended to make sense to crossover, so I don't think any of them are crazy.
9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Yes. I got some hate on a Buffy/Xander fic back in the day. I got really excited and had fun with it. Like yeah, now I'm SOMEBODY! You're no one til someone hates you lol Most of that was people who were haters of the ship, or were like, gross, they're like brother and sister (they weren't, they were FRIENDS). I've gotten nasty comments here and there on some of my SPN fic. My favorite was the person who accused me of having a "Top Dean Agenda". I STILL laugh about that one. I don't respond to that crap.
10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Have you MET ME? LOL If I ever post a story without smut just put me out to pasture, because I'm done. And all kinds. Het, Gay, PWP, Plotty porn, mostly super kinky but some vanilla (but intense). I used to challenge myself regularly to see if I could up my kink game--like hmm, but could I write THIS? I haven't written really kinky sex in a long time, though. Might be time to do that.
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Several times. Who Watches Over me was stolen by someone and converted to One Direction Lourry fic. Literally just did a name change. Someone else stole a bunch of my one shots and passed them off as their own. I know there were a couple other instances but I only vaguely remember. I never got too deep into it, most of the time the people who discovered the theft already told everyone else too, and the plagiarist had been hammered by them so hard that I didn't have to step in before they took it down.
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes. I used to get requests so often that I just posted my usual response in my profile for people to read instead of replying. Definitely into Russian and Chinese for most of the stories listed with most kudos above.
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
A few times on one shot fics. SO MUCH FUN. I love co-writing with people.
14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
Sam/Dean. Easily. Hands down. I just love their unique relationship, bond and love so much.
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Well I finally finished A Touch of Evil after posting 3 chapters in 2009 and never touching it again until 2017. And I never thought I'd finish that. So never say never, I say. That said, there's the third and final part of my X-Men comic book epic that remains unfinished by about five (shorter) chapters, and it HAUNTS ME. But I don't think I'll ever finish it.
16) What are your writing strengths?
NOW we get to the hard questions. I'm really good at dialogue, bouncing banter back and forth between characters, and I have a sense for how long a scene should be. I just KNOW when it's going on too long, even if there's more that needs to be said, and I try to tighten it up in that case.
A friend of mine once told me "Porn is my gift". I don't write as much of it as I used to, but yeah, I shine in that area.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
So I always reach a point after writing so many words in an unpublished fic where I'm like, I have no idea if this is even any good/makes sense/hangs together etc. Beyond that, I've been writing for so long that I've had so much practice that I've strengthened a lot of my weaknesses. I'm sure I still have some, but I don't FEEL them like I used to anymore. That said, there are things I simply will not write. Like historical pieces. Because I would research the fuck out of every detail trying to get it perfect and then I would still doubt myself completely.
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I mostly try to avoid it, because there's no way I would ever get the language correct. I usually write it in English and then explain that they're saying it in another language. Like, "What are you doing?" the man asks, speaking in Chinese. Then reiterate in the continuing dialogue in various ways that they're speaking in Chinese.
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
X-Men Comic Book fandom. I was reading a lot of Remy/Rogue fic back in 1996-1997, and one day I was like, you know what? This person did a pretty good job on this story. It's not great, but it's pretty good, and if they can have the guts to put it out there, then I can do it, too.
20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
This is a tough question. I don't love all my children equally, but I love them all a lot in different ways lol
Remembering favorite is different than which one I think is BEST... Homework Verse is probably my favorite. I was learning so much about writing then, I was really growing, and discovering, and pushing my limits. Those characters lived and breathed in me, I swear they spoke through me from some alternate universe. They feel so REAL to me. There's so much of what I've learned in life in that story, like really, big, life changing ideas and understandings that happened to me that I put into that story. There's so much of me in that story, and yet there's so much of THEM, too. It's their story, but it's also mine. It's raw and not entirely perfect and it feels like home to me.
--
So that's it, that's my piece. I feel like EVERYONE has been tagged since it took me 3 days to have time to do this, but I'm basically tagging any of you writers out there who haven't done this yet!

Not quite a Tuesday...
But now that we can safely move birds again, I am WELL over cap and have several available to new homes!
Tumblr media
Ellie 1/10/21 January Update Lahore/Modena x VSC/Frillback/OGO Dirty Ash Red bar hen Sired by Sissy out of Valentine 9/3/19 Bred by The Ramsey Loft Vaccinated 7/29/20 for Paratyphoid/Salmonella Vaccinated 3/17/20 for PMV Loft bird $40
Ellie will receive her Paratyphoid Booster tomorrow.
Though she may bond with a new person in a new home, she is currently more interested in other birds than people out in the loft.
She can be a butt to other hens, though that seems to have mellowed.
And she has a history of keeping a favorite mate who is allowed to connect the cloacal kiss during treading, and maintaining one to three sugar daddies on the side, who she will flirt with to get them to feed her, but flatten her tail on the ground when they treat her so that the cloacal kiss can’t connect.
Tumblr media
Gus 1/11/21 January Update Lahore-Modena x Giant Homer Dirty Bronze Blue t-pattern check Sired by Dudley out of Agnes 9/5/19 Bred by The Ramsey Loft Vaccinated 7/29/20 for Paratyphoid/Salmonella (to be updated tomorrow) Vaccinated 3/17/20 for PMV Retired $30
Gus is a nearly two pound chicken of a pigeon that flies like a bowling ball.
He may allow himself to be preened on very rare occasion, only if he’s explicitly asked “Gus, can I preen you?” with one finger extended, but not touching him. If he reaches out to preen the finger tip, his handler may preen his cheek. Turning his head away means no.
He happily takes safflower seeds and likes to vibe on a knee, thigh, or shoulder.
He is not to be bred under any circumstances, due to a genetic tendency for painful flight feather cysts that I would rather not pass on to a new generation.
I would prefer him to be a house pet, as he likes people and will be happier indoors with a person he can chill with than out in a loft.
Tumblr media
Cody 1/12/21 January Update COF-Racing Homer x Frillback-Giant Homer Pied Almond Brown T-pattern cock het for Grizzle, toy stencil and frill stencil Sired by Betty out of Hagrid 11/3/19 Bred by The Ramsey Loft Vaccinated 7/29/20 for Paratyphoid/Salmonella (to be updated tomorrow) Vaccinated 3/17/20 for PMV Loft Bird $40
Cody used to be very human friendly, but after having to be treated for worms in December, he is no longer comfortable with hands.
He is an excellent father with five clutches to his name.
Tight setter, devoted pumper, not usually distressed by egg or peep checks.
He would be an excellent addition to a breeding project.
Tumblr media
Dodger 1/18/21 January Update Feral Dirty Sooty Smoky Blue Check hen Aprox DOB: 4/3/20 Found with Alex 4/28/20 Surrendered 4/29/20 Paratyphoid booster administered 1/19/21 PMV booster administered 6/5/20 Retired $30
Dodger is an extremely skittish bird, retired due to neurological complications from calcium deficiency.
When stressed, her legs stop working and she colapses.
She recovers in minutes, if removed from the stressful situation.
Though she may well make a full recovery eventually, it would be best for her health not to allow her to breed.
Tumblr media
Alex 1/19/21 January Update Feral Dirty Blue Bar cock Aprox DOB: 4/11/20 Found with Dodger 4/28/20 Surrendered 4/29/20 Paratyphoid booster administered 1/19/20 PMV booster administered 5/16/20 Retired $30
Alex is a lot more bold than Dodger, but, being feral, is not quite brave enough to sit on a knee or shoulder for more than a few seconds.
He started showing the same neurological complications as Dodger this week, so it will also be in his best interest not to be bred.
Tumblr media
Indica 1/24/21 January Updates Lucerne-STRH x Lahore-Modena-VSC-FB-OGO Sooty Ash Red Bar cock Sired by Vynni out of Ellie 4/19/20 Bred by The Ramsey Loft PMV booster administered 6/21/20 Paratyphoid booster administered 1/19/21 Companion $50
Indica extremely human social, often wanting to get into what ever I am doing, when not flirting with his husband or harassing his flockmates.
I’d prefer he be adopted with his husband, if possible, but if not, he would be happy as a house pet.
Indica is Bi, and may pair up with a hen in a new loft, but he would need flock mates bigger than him who could stand up to his aggressive bullying and not be walked all over.
He has attempted to drive a few hens, but hasn't tried to tread any yet, so whether or not he is likely to pair with a hen is uncertain.
Tumblr media
Pookie 12/24/20 6 Months Old Feral x ODC-STRH Ash Red Bar Cock Sired by Pippin out of Cookie 6/24/20 Bred by The Ramsey Loft Paratyphoid boosters administered 1/19/21 PMV boosters administered 9/9/20 Loft Bird $40
Pookie has no interest in people, just Indica and general mayhem.
I would prefer he and Indica be adopted together, but if they can’t be, Pookie is also Bi.
Other than Indica, Pookie has flirt with and tread several hens, so he is very likely to pair up with some one in a new loft.
Tumblr media
Frito 1/13/21 4 Months Old COF-RH-FB-GH x COF-RH Almond pied Ash Red check cock Sired by Cody out of Rigby 9/13/20 Bred by The Ramsey Loft PMV and Paratyphoid boosters administered 11/15/20 Loft Bird $40
Frito is the most independent bird presently in the Loft.
He washed from Therapy training around six weeks of age due to vehement dislike of harness work.
He is uninterested in me entirely, and doesn’t interact with other pigeons very often either.
He has recently claimed a nest box which he is able to defend, but has made no attempt to practice wooing a mate yet.
He will be happiest as a loft bird.
For more information about the birds, our breeding project, or to make an appointment to visit the loft, you can email [email protected] or call/text 706-993-7452.
Though we prefer local pick up, shipping is available with in the continental US.
Shipping boxes are $10
I will need your zip code to calculate postage.
Shipping boxes are designed around the physiology of the birds. They are sturdy corrugated cardboard, which is surprisingly well insulated! There are air holes all down the sides, but only across the top in front: taking advantage of the fact that hot air rises. As hot air leaves the top holes, cool air is drawn in the lower ones. Air holes are covered by a filter, which provides a few benefits: Keeping the bird and its mess contained, moderate protection from outside contaminants, and most importantly, darkness.
Pigeons are diurnal. Deprived of light, they basically shut off and fall asleep. If they could see and were active, more than 24 hours with out water would leave them dangerously dehydrated. But while they sleep, their digestion is drastically slowed, allowing them to conserve water and calories for days longer than they could while active.
I line the boxes with two layers of paper towels and send seeds with them, but there is no safe or legal way to send water, which is why keeping them in the dark for the trip is so important.
Live birds travel by ground, to protect them in case of hazardous materials ending up in the same scheduled shipment. If that happens, the live animal is simply delayed until the next scheduled truck or sent along a different rout.
Some times this results in delays. It is not uncommon for a bird to arrive a day or so later than projected, but pigeons travel very well and I have never had one arrive in poor condition.
When the bird gets home, show them where water and food are, and only let them explore once they've had a drink.
They will be more interested in drinking than eating for the first few days, and you will see it in their very wet poo. Once they re-balance, you will see their poo firming back up again. It usually takes them about a week to balance back out.
Yes, I am aware of the delays to postal service and the losses of reptiles and hatchery chicks.
Livestock does not go through the sorting machines. They are moved by hand.
Reptiles are not usually shipped in boxes that look different from regular mail, so they can be easily lost by overwhelmed staff.
Hatchery chicks are shipped out before they have a first meal because it’s cheaper to replace them if they die than feed them for a week.
The crates made for pigeons and other legal poultry are designed around bird physiology and air thermodynamics, keeping the birds cool and asleep most of the trip. They are not shaped like the average box used for shipping inanimate objects, and they stand out like a sore thumb, making them harder to misplace or lose track of. Healthy Pigeons over 6 weeks old who start the journey well hydrated are comfortably travel safe up to 7 days.

Out of all the snk shipping fandoms, which one do you think is the best/most wholesome? And which one is the worst/most toxic? Reminder that we’re talking about fandoms here and not ships (btw even tho I hate ereri I can’t help but love your art about it, it’s just amazing and hilarious, keep it up!)
Interesting question! As you might know, we don’t consider ourselves a part of any shipping fandom (or any fandom in general), so we can only talk about how we (and people we know) were treated by them. There won’t be much of an “inside” experience, because well we’re not “inside” any of these. And a lot of it is “people who ship X tend to shit on Ereri absolutely unprovoked at every chance they get, so we really don’t like them” lol
Obligatory and very obvious: loving a certain ship doesn’t make you a good/bad person, and there are a lot of wholesome people in any shipping fandom: we’ve met a lot of very kind, helpful and open-minded folks during these two years. So if any of you read this and think “oh, I ship X too, and this doesn’t sound like me or my friends at all”, chances are I’m not talking about you. But there’s always a possibility that peeps that you interact with in your shipping circle are pretty nice to you, but super mega shitty to others. Whether you ignore this type of behavior or not is up to you. I just want all the harassment to stop, because frankly we’re very tired.
As someone who ships Ereri, we’ve experienced and witnessed a lot lol especially on twitter. The most vocal ones would be Levihan, Eremin and Eruri fandoms I suppose.
With Eruri fandom, we’ve heard a lot of stories about some people bashing Zevi and attacking Zevi shippers + we’ve witnessed the great Eruri vs Ereri war, so of course we know how pretentious and rude they can get. There are people who felt like they were exiled from the Eruri shipping fandom for either shipping any other character with Levi or just seeing characters and their relationships differently (i.e. not seeing them as wholesome husbands or preferring Levi to bottom which is apparently a sin for Eruris too sometimes nowadays???). Although it’s important to mention that I feel like Eruri shippers know how shitty the anti stuff is better than a lot of other communities, so I don’t feel the same aggression from them at this moment.
If we’re talking twitter, based on what we and our friends have experienced, the most aggressive groups seem to be Levihan and Eremins. When I go through my blocking sprees and block everyone who hates on Ereri or Zevi or Eruri (well, mostly Ereri), ~88% of the accs happen to be either Eremin or Levihans. When someone writes a long-ass thread to attack a content creator, it always happen to be either of these two, and I have no idea why. A lot of them are also minors who act like the way they harass others is perfectly justified. I legit see stuff like “besties let’s spoil snk for ereris” and “let’s bully ereris and tell them to kys” every time I search ereri on twitter. And I’ve seen enough of Levihan folks saying shit like Eruris being criminals because Erwin is basically a nazi + spreading misinformation about popular artists just out of spite… extremely annoying stuff. Actually, I think you’re the first LH person who’s been kind to us lol
Also don’t get the idea that there are no toxic people in the Ereri community, because this simply isn’t true. Like I said, every fandom has its own clique and a certain level of toxicity, and it’s stupidly easy to be the “wrong one” here, at least it used to when we just started posting. People who’ve been following us for a while know that we used to get a lot of crap for making Levi a bottom on all of our drawings and not wanting characters to switch. It’s such a stupid reason to get harassed, who the fuck cares whether a character tops or bottoms in a drawing??? And yet we’ve been told that a lot of harassment has happened because of it + experienced it ourselves. I think the only reason we don’t get harassed for it very often nowadays is because of a luxury of being a kind of a big art account. It’s much easier to attack smaller ones who don’t have any power or connections, especially when they’re insecure and want to fit in with the fandom.
Now for some reason some people now think that we (me and Katsu) block people for loving top!Levi or bottom!Eren… this isn’t true. I admit that I can get petty when I block people, but it’s always about their attitude and never about their preferred ship or character’s position. Whether you like something or not is none of our business, and we never criticized what others like, so it’s kind of offensive that people think we’d act that way towards others when we ourselves experienced the same treatment for making Levi bottom every single time. It’s childish and disgusting, and I really don’t want people to think of us as someone who approves of this behavior.
Top!Levi stans act pretty toxic too sometimes, not only in Ereri (well Riren) community. The majority of comments about our Levi being ooc, looking like a child and being too horny and blushy we got from them, they get straight-up OFFENDED by our Levi. We’ve talked about how people are afraid to make Levi into anything but a serious and stoic manly man a lot in the past… And this is the only reason we get defensive when people ask us about top!Levi. But still, we never block anyone because of their preferences. This assumption is very... idk yikes, and more disgusting is the fact that people very easily jump to this conclusion, like... seriously? That’s what you think about us? So much for “uwu our supportive shipping fandom community”.
Shippers of het ships can get quite toxic too, especially after the finale. Some of Eremika peeps got wild, and you’ve probably seen our replies about it and that one Anon who got very upset with our reply about Eren. For some reason, when you post something het-related, there’s always going to be a person saying shit like “NAAAH HE LOVES X, NOT HER”, as if any of this matters. They are the type to whine about Eruri shippers ruining beautiful friendship between Erwin and Levi with their homo sexy stuff. They’re often disrespectful: shit in your comments, belittle other ships with comments like “well THIS is much better than X”, and overall make the experience very uncomfortable. For some reason they just can’t enjoy their darn ships without shitting on others.
Anyhow. I know this reply sounds like “everyone’s a shithead” lol, but once again: sadly, there are nasty people in almost every shipping circle, this is unavoidable. And it’s easier to mark them as “shippers of X”, because they often act like a clique or high school bullies or something. And even though there are a lot of very nice people, I tend not to associate them with any shipping community: it’s just a pleasant and cool person who we had fun communicating with, and who just happen to ship X, Y and Z.
Maybe… it’s fair to say that we dislike fandoms, but talking to people who are kind, polite and excited about the same things that we are, is always great.
Siiigh, hope I didn’t bore you to death with this reply. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to talk about this! And for enjoying my art and being open-minded :)

I love that the last few years occasionally I get the rare person judging the URL I've had since 2011. It's really- it's just fascinating, what people will latch on to and judge for the sake of 'fitting in'.
(Below is a Vent, but tl;dr Can y'all stop clutching your pearls over an old fandom term I've had as my URL since 2011 when it hurts no one? I explain below why this is not a slur, the actual usage and some history, and why I don't feel like changing my URL. It's not in depth but if you want to know more there's plenty of research to be had.)
Real talk tho, it is funny. Yaoi is a bad word for you? It's so cringe to have been in early 2000s English Anime fandom? You want me to change a URL I've had for over a decade that references an old meme (Blank, Blank Everywhere) bc it makes you feel a little initial startle when you like content I've bought or made? So silly. Why? Do you think it's- a bad word? A word that's just a genre?? Not a slur??? We don't call couples Yaoi, Yuri, Het That's just. Wh- Where did this come from, is all I'm asking. I remember hearing RUMORS that SOME ladies were doing it at cons (tho I never saw proof) around the time this started. I can understand the initial "what the fuck" but c'mon now. A lot of you making comments have CLEARLY never seen that.
And to be clear, I don't ship Real People. Apologies to the RPF shippers if that sounds rude, but it's just not something I do. So, y'know, don't like ~accuse me~ of calling irl gay people a term that's used for a genre of manga??
I think one of the protests has been like. "Oh, Yaoi means its gay content made for ladies". ...I am reading and writing. Queer fanfic content. On the internet. Primarily made by and for. Queer people. Which does include some ladies like me. Yaoi Manga is bought by a variety of people. Including, notably, actual gay men in Japan. It is extremely hard to get actual Queer Created, Queer Reputed content in Japan- it is literally kept under lock and key in most of the places that decide to stock it "for the children". So when they're curious it's a lot easier to look at what? Yaoi. Titilating, soft, romanticized depictions of young men in lust. Or love, occasionally.
I'm Queer gang. I've been Queer a long time. I know the delicacy of balancing decorum and comfort zones and even the turmoil going on between the older and younger generation over using Queer as a term. But, on a much more lighthearted, minor scale, I'm not going to stop using this url with Yaoi in it just because you don't research or understand the term and go with your knee jerk "I think I heard someone say some lady at a con call a gay couple that". Or even worse. "It's old, so it's bad."
You're not going to get some dudebro on the side of the street spit "Fucking Yaoi" at you. You're not going to have some dismissive teacher say "You have got to stop being so Yaoi." People in the school halls don't laugh and point and say "Look, it's the Yaoi." People on TWITTER, THE IRL HELL THAT IT IS, Are NOT going to tweet "lmao yaoi loser" if you're gay. They might if you post your otp, I suppose, if they're resulting to 8th grade bullying tactics which is surprisingly common on the internet. If people are calling you Yaoi in discord or something and it hurts your feelings, I'm a bit confused, but that sounds like a friend group problem that needs sorted imminently. Good luck with that.
You're okay. I'm not here to hurt you. This word is not here to hurt you. My URL is a joke that has become a lot less easily recognized over time, and that's okay. But it's not here to cause you harm. It's also not going to get you cool points if you diss it, but that's like, a you problem.

I wanted to ask you what were your thought in Melby. Because tho I don’t really care about them, I do care about sapphic treatment in shows. And there are two options with Melby as for right now.
1) they actually plan to stick with the ship and it’s just straight out bad treatment and double standards compared to the straight couples. Or,
2) they are just kinda using it to fill the void and have a little bit of drama until they can have abimel progress. And don’t get me wrong, I’m ALL for gay drama, episode 306 was so funny to me, I love the dumb gay drama. Give me more. But if this is the case, it still feels a bit, I don’t know the proper word, but just a bit weird ? (Idk, just meh) that they use it as a way to fill the void while giving it zero effort. Does that make sense ?
Anyway, I just wanted to know your thoughts because I do feel they’re building abimel but right now their treatment of Melby just seems a but weird ? Especially cause we know that in ep 14 they are still together
Hii hi, yes, what you’re saying makes sense! And this is exactly why I like to think Abimel is the end goal here. Because Mel is one of the three leads, and so I have this expectation for her romantic relationships to have equal importance, focus and screen time as the other two. And right now, what we have with Melby, I can’t even go as far as saying it feels secondary to Hacy and Verachase that’d be too generous. Melby feels like an afterthought at best, and that’s IF they’re even lucky enough to be given any thought at all.
To your question, if Abimel is indeed endgame then I don’t really feel like it’s necessary for the show to fully invest in Melby’s relationship — because if that’s the case, it automatically makes Melby temporary. And while I personally always prefer to have well-rounded side characters and whatnot, I also understand that sometimes when it isn’t essential to the plot, a lot of writers won’t bother, and I can also understand why they wouldn’t put in effort into something that won’t last, more than they need to for whatever purpose Melby might have, whether it’s a filler relationship or if it’s leading to become a source of conflict or roadblock for the main ship or something else. The bottomline in this scenario is that arguably, if we’re talking about the treatment of wlw relationships then they’re actually putting in a lot of time and energy into the one they’re supposed to: the main ship, Abimel. It’s pretty typical for shows in general to not really put a lot of focus on temporary ships.
I will say though — the writing for Melby has been awful regardless, which I think is what you’re most concerned about and I have to agree.. Filler or not, it’s so inconsistent, viewers always have to fill in the blanks because half the time we’re jumping from one significant point of their relationship to another. One minute they’re talking about being casual, we don’t see Ruby for five episodes save for one name drop, and the next time we meet her they seem to be in a serious relationship. We’ve also gone from them breaking up because Ruby wants nothing to do with witches and the magical world, to them being together without even so much as addressing that fact. As my friend has pointed out, Mel and Ruby have broken up maybe half the number of times that they’ve had episodes together. This relationship was established to be one-foot-out-the-door from the get go, and if you ask me that still hasn’t changed. It’s weird, it’s messy, it’s lazy writing. I mean come on, the best they could do for the one episode they’ve had her this season was give them a recycled version of Hacy plots & scenes.
Which is why, I have to think they’re the filler. Because otherwise then, wtf. For one, as a filler I can forego the lack of screen time but they at least deserve consistency. Second, if this is endgame… is that really the best they can do for their wlw audience? I mean wlw ships often get zero development and get sidelined for het ships but this is a whole new level of bad especially for a show that likes to pride itself in its representation. And it’s not like they’re not capable of writing semi-decent wlw. Melko, Melda and Melkat. At this point, if they choose to go for Melby as endgame it’d almost feel like such a stab because it’s easily the most poorly written out of all of Mel’s canon relationships. And for me, it’s just kind of too late to fix it. The damage has been done, the crappy development is canon and unless Mel’s gonna cast another spell to rewrite history lol, nothing will change the fact that we can’t really undo the very non-existent build up for them. And I’m not saying this just because I ship Abimel. Even without Abimel, I’d still prefer they just introduce someone new that they’ll actually put effort into. It’s tiring to keep having to make do with whatever hole-filled plotlines writers give wlw relationships.
But I mean yeah, we know Ruby’s still around so hopefully at the very least we can start seeing them write Melby better from this point forward. They still deserve that.

I am so very tired of all those twitter comments 'ewww ZUTARA why would you put that het shit on my tl this is homophobiaaaww' Like yes as non straight woman myself I am tired of seeing only straight couples in the media but as I have seen and heard from others too not a lot of straight relationships include a brown woman and what makes a pairing an 'eww forced het ship' Zutara doesn't meet the requirements as neither of them are white. Het ships with no white people are white are rare too.
Yeah, I get what you mean.
I could easily point out that most of the Zutara fandom in itself is bi, and then I could accuse the antis of bi-erasure or biphobia for calling Zutara a “het ship”, but seriously, where would that take any of us? More arguments? More segregationism? We already have enough of that.
You know what we don’t have enough of? Interracial couples!
We. Don’t. Have. Enough. Of. Them.
And, yes, Aang and Katara were from different races as well, but I think the beauty of interracial couples is better represented in Zutara for the explicit conflict going on between the Water Tribe and the Fire Nation. It gives space for the portrayal of the background of each couple from different nationalities or races.
And (just in case), no, I’m not saying that because I’m a racist.
You know who colonized Venezuela (my home country) back in its day? The Spanish.
You know from where my great-grandmother was? From Spain.
You know from where my great-grandfather was? From Venezuela!
Are the antis going to tell me that my gramps shouldn’t have had children and I shouldn’t have been born because their union was racist? (I mean, I know they would if given the chance, but they would be wrong. Not that that’s anything new.)
My grandparents where also from different countries, my grandmother was from Venezuela and my grandfather from Holland.
Maybe my love for interracial representation is because my family tree is very mixed. Half of my ancestors are European and the other half Latinx. I just feel represented by couples from different races, you know? Especially because I am brown-skinned myself.
And, because I think this is a good time for getting this out of my system, here’s a portrayal of a conversation with an anti Zutara:
Anti: KATARA WOULD NEVER BECOME FIRELADY!!!!!!!!! SHE WOULD NEVER HOLD A POSITION OF POWER ABOVE THE ONES THAT OPRESSED HER PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! *takes out the torches*
Me: Yeah, it would be like having a black president.
Anti: ...
Me: ...
Anti: ...
Me: Oh, wait!

youve totally converted me to grimmichihime and im really tempted to embark on a big fic about it but ive never written polyamory before and im really daunted !! any tips on writing poly and like how you see the dynamic of those three specifically?
eeee! :D :D :D write it write it write it!
ok OK ok hmmmmm ADVICE. i’m kinda scattered today so i’m gonna try to write all the things but i probably will not manage even most things.
general poly things:
-Closed triangle dynamics where all three love the other two are actually pretty rare and difficult irl! People rarely line up so nicely. what happens more often is a person has two boyfriends (romantic partnerships), one of those boyfriends has a wife (main/primary relationship) and three lovers (secondary relationships) where it’s more flirty and sexual and fun and less with the “help me while i grieve my dead mom”,  two of those lovers are also each other’s lovers. Or two committed couples are wife-swapping swingers, or a het couple has a “same sex partners are ok but not opposite sex” or vice versa, etc etc, there’s lots of flavors of poly and open relationships.
Fandom-wise it sounds like you’re writing the closed triad OT3 so let’s go with that though.
–Every person is different so every relationship with a single twosome has a different dynamic. Adding a third person means you now have AB, BC, AC and ABC dynamics to handle. What makes a poly ship fun is that those people are different and handle everything differently.
In other words, c h a o s.
–Every person has different insecurities (What makes them feel hurt, disregarded, disrespected?) and different relationship needs. (How do they ask for them, how do they react when they’re not met, how much compromise are they willing to deal with?) Some of those needs will conflict, or be assumed to conflict. Sometimes the way to make a person feel better will make another feel worse?! Well damn. Negotiating will HAVE to happen in some way.
Things being too easy are kinda boring to read though, so that’s fine in a fic. XD It kinda makes its own plot tbh.
–Some people don’t have a sense of jealousy at all and are just happy that the person/people they love are also happy. Some are possessive but not jealous (do whoever you want/build the outside attachments you want so long as at the end of the day you’re mine). Some are jealous but willing to deal with their own feelings because the payoff is worth the twinges. Some aren’t jealous but think they should be and only feel awkward and confused and maybe sad because they’re turning it inwards and never examinated it. etc etc.
I’m sure there’s more but i cannot brain. Anyway let’s pull up the grimmichihime for examples.
* Dynamics:
-Grimmjow/Ichigo: RIVALS who understand each other uncomfortably well in the dark corners of their psyche but keep butting heads. They just want the other one to respect them damn it. But they have very different contexts so like, are they still speaking the same language when they’re not speaking with blades?
-Ichigo/Orihime: Let me tenderly protect your sensitive places while I blush in silence while being too shy to make a move for like actual years. Also both of them think the other one is too good for them. Haa, kids. XD A very sweet and innocent First Romance vibe.
-Grimmjow/Orihime: this one has the least positive canon material, so you’ve got to imagine for yourself how the two of them would interact when they’re not under pressure. If Grimmjow isn’t fighting for survival/respect does he still trample all over her? If Orihime isn’t held hostage by crazy assholes threatening the lives of everyone she holds dear does she still flinch and grit her teeth in terrified resolve from his more volatile moments? Ok but do they connect? How? (It could easily have a dynamic like one of those bodice rippers where the genteel lady is kidnapped by a pirate and at the end of the trip he’s bending over backwards for her favor tbh XD)
-Third person reacting to the other two: —How does Orihime handle the constant barbs and physical jostling between Ichigo and Grimmjow? She doesn’t like physical violence, does she learn to see it as boys roughhousing or do they learn not to raise their voices too harshly around her? —How does Ichigo’s overprotective ass handle Grimmjow being insensitive or crude to her? Does she have to tell Ichigo it’s ok and she can handle it? (Does Grimmjow somehow develop Some Tact?) —Does Grimmjow have a single idea how to deal with their quiet gentleness? Cuddle time? What the fuck is a love language. Does not getting it bother him and make him hostile because he feels disconnected from them?
-What do they do when it’s all three of them at once? How do they hang out? Is there something they can all do together and how important is it to them, or are they okay with limiting that to have more one-on-one time instead? How do they handle time-sharing issues?
*Insecurities & jealousy :
-Is Grimmjow possessive and over what? Sex, time, training, angry moments? Do you headcanon him as sleeping around without any emotions attached or as avoiding people? Has he ever dated/been in a closed romantic partnership before? Can he even recognize the signs? How does he handle being from literally another planet from two of his partners and being stared at in confusion and/or horror while they bond over Not Getting Him and him Not Getting Them? Does he feel like a curiosity or a sex toy to spice up the Real Partnership ™ ?
-How does Ichigo handle the “yeah you’re dating two people and one of them is the girl everyone ships you with, and the other one is a guy everyone wonders wtf about” from the outside? How does he deal with endangering Orihime’s heart? (like, what if she gets attached and Grimmjow predictably breaks her heart in a thousand pieces and it’s Ichigo’s fault for allowing it to happen? What if he’s nasty in bed. What if he doesn’t flush.) Does Ichigo figure out/remember that he’s dating TWO people and Grimmjow might deny to hell and back he has feelings that can be hurt but does, in fact, have feelings that can be hurt, and now it’s Ichigo’s fault for coddling Orihime over him. Does he feel insecure over Grimmjow’s experience or the wild and spontaneous things he does with Orihime and the way they can laugh without it turning into a competition?
-Orihime is canonly insecure over what other people can bring Ichigo that she can’t, and she has a massive insecurity about not being able to protect Ichigo/following him on the battlefield. She’s been training like mad to catch up, and by the end of canon she’s quite happy for having been acknowledged by Ichigo on that point, but when faced with a dude who doesn’t feel sick every time he has to raise his fists and has reflexes like greased lightning, does she still feel like she contributes equally or does her self-doubt rear its head up again? Does it also spread out to things like idk, she can’t fully satisfy Ichigo sexually and he’s always going to be missing something if he’s with just her? Is she ever going to feel like Grimmjow, who doesn’t open up easily, only tolerates her because Ichigo’s the one he really wants, and sure he will casually and easily chat with her but that’s because he doesn’t care about her approval as much?
How do they notice these feelings, run from them, confront them, fix them, etc etc etc? Some are gonna be fixed super easily, some are gonna be non-issues depending on the context of your plot, and some of them are probably gonna make for fun plot, and of course there’s probably a dozen more other angles you could go with.
Be wary when you write a threesome not to make one of the characters the support who’s there to facilitate the “more interesting” pairing and doesn’t really get any emotional fulfillment from it. It’s perfectly fine to write, say, a voyeur who facilitates a sex scene with their lover and some other guy and the camera is mostly on the porn, but they have to be present in the fic as more than the helper. Like the sassy friend couple or The Sam in MCU fics who’s only there to get the main pairing to hook up.
It’s ok if not all three characters have as much presence and impact on the plot because perfectly equal screentime is a pipe dream, but all three should still have stakes in the plot and derive satisfaction from the end result. Otherwise they’ll feel superfluous in their own damn plot, and then it fails at being a good OT3.
… i… have a lot of cranky opinions about good OT3s from my naruto days tbh. From “did you put sakura in your fave yaoi just so you don’t look sexist but she’s not even doing anything eeewww a pussy” to “whoa someone is self inserting p hard today” to “i love this ot3 except for this pairing it contains that i happen to have founded the anti-fanclub for but i can totally handle THAT dynamic fairly and without bashing i swear (yuuuuck)”. but that’s about ten years back and i haven’t been writing a lot of OT3 since so i haven’t written meta in just about that long. my bad if it’s rambly and i’m missing something obvious. XD; i hope this helps a bit!

001 Umbrella Academy and 003 Seth Gecko and 004 Buffyverse/Teen Wolf
Thanks @yossariandawn for sending this!
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character: Diego 💕 but Five is a close second.
Least Favorite character: Reginald! The only good thing I can say about him is that he brought the Hargreeves together. Oh, and I guess he did give Vanya her first violin. Still an awful guy though.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Not sure I have a full five, but in no particular order: Lila/Five, Diego/Vanya, Agnes/Hazel, Luther/Alison, and Five/Vanya
Character I find most attractive: Probably Ben, but Alison is a gorgeous close second.
Character I would marry: Maybe Diego? Possibly Klaus after season two if he could stay sober.
Character I would be best friends with: Probably Alison. I feel like she and I would get along well in that regard.
a random thought: I hope there’s not an apocalypse next season, and I hope the next time they do an apocalypse, it’s not because Vanya loses control of her powers but rather some other siblings who sets it off.
An unpopular opinion: Luther was just as messed up as the rest of his siblings by Reginald and deserves the same amount of understanding/forgiveness for his mistakes.
my canon OTP: Luther/Alison are such a cute couple
Non-canon OTP: Lila/Five came out of nowhere and grabbed my attention in both hands and demanded I pay it the respect it deserves :P
most badass character: Five
pairing I am not a fan of: I can’t really get behind Ben/Klaus. Most of the other ships I’m at least neutral on, but that one just isn’t for me.
character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I can’t say that they screwed her up yet, but if they magically bring the Handler back next season I think that’d be a major screw up on the writers back. Once I get, and I love the character, but they can’t keep killing her off and then bringing her back without the whole thing losing the impact it had the first time. (Now if they find a way to have her past self pop in now and again to make things sticky, I could be down for that, but I don’t want her back as a main antagonist again.)
favourite friendship: Ben and Klaus... which also might be why I don’t ship them romantically. They’re too much of a brOTP for me.
character I want to adopt or be adopted by: all the little Hargreeves! :( And maybe Lila too, let them have more normal childhoods.
I did the Seth one last because it ended on a bunch of gifs
004 | send me 2 fandoms and I will give yo my crossover OTP
BtVS and TW aired at two such different times that I don’t think I’ve ever thought about crossover potential between them.
And since I couldn’t seem to think of an OTP, I went with three potential dynamics I wouldn’t mind exploring XD
Is it odd that I think there’s potential between Willow and Peter? There’d have to either be some history there, maybe they bonded in early school years. Or else Peter manipulated and pushed Willow, either because he saw her as an easy target or because he sensed the magic potential in her and was poking at it, to the point she snapped back. Once its established that there’s some hefty bite behind the fuzzy sweaters and nervous babble, he’d get curious. And curiosity would eventually lead to some kind of relationship, whether romantic or platonic. Peter would become weirdly protective over her, but not in a physical sense so much as a he speaks to her in a way that isn’t designed to provoke, and will glare/threaten those who he feels isn’t giving her the care she deserves.
I think I could also at least mildly ship Scott/Dawn for some reason. I don’t know why, but I feel like his puppiness and her sort of optimistic awkwardness could click. Plus he’d take the whole “I was a glowy blob of energy for most of my life” thing in stride.
Oz, being BtVS’ primary werewolf, would have been great as a Just Passing Through wolf who runs into the Hale pack circa Derek’s keeps-turning-high school-students phase and who ends up sticking around for a bit. He’s not an official pack member, he likes his lone wolf status just fine, but he’s discovered quite a bit of harmonizing with his inner wolf and ways of controlling a shift that he ends up becoming kind of a much needed mentor. He also has a plethora of much needed supernatural knowledge and unlike Deaton, he’s willing to share.
003 | Give me a character & I will tell you Seth Gecko
How I feel about this character: Sarcastic, grumpy asshole with selective morals! *heart eyes*
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Kate... that’s it, the whole list. No seriously, all the ship questions below have the exact same answer... Kate...
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Gecko Brothers are brOTP to the max. They are ride or die for each other and I love that they are such a package deal.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Not sure I have an unpopular opinion on him specifically. At least not one that I haven’t mentioned before, lol.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:  Whoops, almost missed this one. The show did a pretty good job at showing Seth’s journey, I’m not sure there’s anything I would change per say, but maybe getting to see a bit more of what was happening during the time between seasons. The Mexican Honeymoon and the Seth and Richie integrating into the culebra world, that sort of thing.
my het ship: SethKate 100%
my fem/slash ship: I really only ship him with Kate... so maybe Kade, the stubborn preacher’s son trying to hold his family together after the death of his mama when they’re family vacation gets hijacked by a couple bankrobbers trying to flee to Mexico.... and I actually remember seeing I think it was a gif set, but it might have just been some pics, of someone’s idea of a genderswapped Kate Fuller and now I’m trying to figure out the actor they used...
I’m kind of picturing this guy (only with a dye job and maybe some green contacts), but he’s got a more masculine version of Madison’s jaw and his nose, while not perfect (she’s got a pretty unique nose) is long and slender like hers, and his eyes have that sort of slight downward angle.
Tumblr media
I found one other guy that might work, his mouth was spot on and his eyes were practically perfect, but his nose is all wrong, his look much edgier (although that could be easily changed), and his jaw/chin wasn’t quite right. He’s here if you‘re curious. :)
my OTP: SethKate... yeah, I’m pretty predictable :P
my OT3: I’ve at least enjoyed the occassional Seth/Kate/Richie fic, so that’d probably be the closet I have to an OT3 for Seth
my cross over ship: er... I’m not sure I’d put Seth with anyone else. Maybe for funsies I’d play with the idea of movie!Seth/show!Kate and/or show!Seth/movie!Kate, but that’d be as far into crossover territory I’d take him romantically.
my kink: I don’t know that I have a go-to one, but that little one sentence prompt where Seth tries to seduce Ms. Fuller? I really want to explore more of that. So student/teacher?
a head cannon fact: Seth, for all his rebellion and bluster and rudeness, doesn’t know it but he wants the approval of those he sees as father figures, to himself and others. With guys like Uncle Eddie it comes out as trying to please them, charm them, make them like him and find him worthy of their approval and praise. For others, like Jacob Fuller, who he thinks will never accept him, will always find see him as beneath him, he goes of his way to try and prove that he doesn’t want or need their acceptance, shoving it in their face at every turn.
my gender bend: Michelle Rodriguez is the first person I thought of. I wish I could find more pics of her in Seth approved outfits, but you’ll have to make due with what I did find :P
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I’m picturing female!Seth and male!Kate (who will forever be Kade in my mind) during their Mexican Honeymoon and that tearful good-bye at the gate.

I will never understand why they didn't just put Kara with Brainy. If they were so afraid of Supercorp, why didn't they use the comic canon love interest who was right there and who she has acceptable chemistry with instead of the worst, most forced Lois Lane knockoff I've ever seen?! Especially bcs Brainy and Nia have been a couple for two seasons but only kissed once.... yet Queller goes on about how cute they are and how much she ships is
The one (1) male love interest for Kara that we would’ve been okay with, and they just avoided it entirely. Her canon comic love interest, and its the only dude on the show (besides J’onn) that they didn’t make her have a thing with, I-
Like, I love Brainia, but c’mon. And yeah, with Brainia, they only kissed once. They’re the only het couple we’re ever gonna care about, so just work with them Queller. Stop the no homo failures.
The more I think about the ‘creative’ team behind Supergirl, the more upset I get. This could easily be the best show in the arrowverse, maybe even on the cw, but...we’re stuck with the idiots in charge, so.
And calling Willy a Lois Lane knockoff is the most offensive thing to say about the queen Lois Lane herself lol, sweetie I’m so sorry.

Another real long “I don’t like Bumbleby” post (Part 1)
So this one was a long time coming. I kept postponing it, polishing it, making it look the nicest I could, but it’s finally here. And it’s quite long. Let’s just, uh, start.
The first thing I wanna say is, I watched RWBY without interacting with the FNDM, just at the start of this year. I didn’t know what Bumbleby was, nor its impact in the overall FNDM. I was blissfully unaware of what was going on, so I dived in with a clean, open mind.
Tumblr media
First impressions and development (or the lack thereof)
I didn’t think about Bumbleby. For those who know me, I ship characters VERY easily and I don’t really care if it’s a gay, het, lesbian ship, I can and I WILL ship them. I shipped Ruby and Penny like crazy. Ruby and Emerald made my heart jump. Jaune and Ren looked insanely cute together, and Sun and Weiss had very nice potential. And in V2, in the Burning the Candle episode, when Yang had a heartfelt conversation with Blake, and hugged her, I was like “oh?”. It was the first time I had seen Yang this vulnerable, and while I really ignored her through the first volume, this scene made me realize she was more than it meets the eye. And she chose to be vulnerable… with Blake. Oh?
Then Blacksun happened. Oh.
I didn’t like Blacksun. I still don’t like it. It’s predictable and boring for my tastes. But it has a privilege Bumbleby doesn’t: development.
I will never understand this choice. Barb said it was planned from the beginning. The question is, then: why didn’t y’all spend time developing Bumbleby? Bees will tell me it was developed, but I’ll suggest y’all to take off your rose-colored glasses and revise those interactions. I totally understand the warm, fuzzy feeling when your ship talk, even look at each other (my ships are 99% rareships so I take what I can get), but deep down you know reality isn’t like that. I’ve seen the 40-minute essay about Bumbleby; yes, you can attribute to every interaction a romantic feeling, but I can do the exact same with Jaune and Ren, and fans will roll their eyes at me and tell me it isn’t like that. The only remotely romantic interaction was the whole Burning the Candle episode. It was a nice episode.
“But Onion”, y’all will say, “are you going to ignore V3 onwards? The plot completely ties Blake and Yang together”. Same as Blake and Sun. Yes, Yang lost an arm for Blake, and yes, she feels betrayed and everything, but… why should I think it’s romantic? Blacksun is being developed at the same time, following common romance tropes that apply to the rest of canon ships, so why should I think it’s any different? Yang could have lost an arm for Weiss and I have no doubt she’d have felt the same. (I also think Weiss would have called her and checked on her every day, until Yang even heard her in dreams.)
That brings me to my second point. Let’s trust Barb, it was planned from the beginning. Then what was Blacksun supposed to be? “It makes the point that romantic relationships don’t always work and sometimes it’s better to stay as friends.” Valid point, but… Blake? Sun? Why did you keep at it? Blake, why did you kiss him on the cheek? That’s misleading, for the audience I mean (Sun already knows the script). When I friendzoned guys, and when the girls I know friendzoned guys, absolutely none of them kissed the dude on the cheek. The most they did was give a pat on the back or shoulder. Let me know if it’s an American thing to kiss guys you friendzone, because maybe it’s the cultural barrier that keeps me from understanding “yes, they’re friends and nothing more!”.
And yes, I know Sun told Neptune it was never about that. What was it about then, Sun? Were you trying to get Weiss’ attention by making her jealous? Were you trying to get Blake to paid for the food? I don’t buy that Sun explicitly flirted with her just to be friends. Else I’m an alien and it’s my second day on Earth, or Sun tried to convince himself to feel less pain. Or who knows? Maybe he really was flirting with her to be friends. Maybe he flirted with Neptune too. Writers, give us proper answers. And no, FNDM, filling in the story holes with “show don’t tell, there’s a logical explanation for it” is still fanon and doesn’t count as canon. Show don’t tell is a rule, not an excuse.
Anyways, after the whole coming and going, Sun finally leaves the scene for Bumbleby to thrive on sudden romantic interactions, which are a little late at most. It’s confusing. Yang never felt jealous when Blake showed attraction to Sun. They didn’t choose to clearly spend time together, at least with the “we’re partners” excuse. I’ll delve into this point later, but for now: we had Blacksun, suddenly we have Bumbleby, and we’re supposed to have been cheering for them the whole time. Uhm, was this supposed to be a plot twist?
Okay, I may be biased on this one, but listen to me. I don’t like this kind of plot twist. Oh, we have a heterosexual couple… OR SO YOU THOUGHT! THE TRUTH IS THAT THE LESBIANS ARE CANON! WE’VE TRICKED YOU, WHAT MADMEN WE ARE!
Tumblr media
Get it? My problem isn’t that Blacksun isn’t canon. My problem is that the writers are using a wlw relationship as a tool, a surprise, manipulating and tricking the audience. It doesn’t feel genuine--it feels like they just wanted to cause controversy--or sell. At the end of the day, Bumbleby is way more popular than Blacksun, and a big part of the FNDM came for the bees. Don’t y’all ever wonder why voice actors don’t talk as much about other characters, or Ruby herself? The main main character?
Let’s bee honest: at this point in time, the biggest thing keeping RWBY afloat is Bumbleby.
“And what’s the problem with all that?”, bees may ask. “What’s wrong with feeding us some good bees?” Ship whatever you want, y’all. But I don’t like getting ships shoved down my throat and treated as peak LGBT+ representation when it didn’t get the time and treatment it deserved. Not all that glitters is gold, guys. (Especially Yang.)
Racism
Oh boy.
Racism is quite the great deal in Remnant… at least that’s what the show tells us. It doesn’t show it. No, Velvet doesn’t need to get stones thrown at her to show us discrimination. But, you know… if there was discrimination, I don’t think she would be in Beacon in the first place. Or that Leonardo would be the headmaster of Haven… Adam Taurus, pack your things and go home; there’s no faunus discrimination worth the fight. (Wait! Don’t go yet, you still have work to do.)
What does racism has to do with Bumbleby?, you may ask. Well, it’s Blake’s main plot. I think it has a lot to do with Bumbleby… but uh, it seems I was wrong. Yang isn’t interested in it, so I guess it’s just Blake’s problem. Until uh, Adam makes a scene, but that doesn’t have much to do with the fact he’s a faunus. It’s still pretty distasteful of a human to kill a faunus, but I’ll tackle that point a bit later.
Blake’s faunity? is very important to her. If she’s an important person to Yang, why doesn’t Yang show interest in it? She didn’t even defend Velvet, even though she could have punched Cardin in the face. She sits around sighing “It must be hard to be a faunus” and annoys Blake with a lighter. This only shows me Yang doesn’t care about Blake’s identity, and not in a good way.
I know, I know, I take the faunus issue to heart. It must be because I’m a person of color. I could talk hours and hours about the horrendous execution of faunus racism (reinforcing stereotypes, horrible analogies and really unfortunate implications), but I’ll limit myself to Blake for now.
Yang doesn’t care. She’s not one bit interested in reading faunus’ history, in asking Blake about her experiences, in thinking how she could help as a human. She’s like those people who say “I’m blind to race” as if it were a good thing. Yeah, you don’t discriminate, but you dismiss other people’s culture and background. It’s part of who we are. Some of us will take it better, some of us worse, but acknowledging Blake’s identity in this case could do wonders. That way Yang could show interest in her as a person, her motives to fight, her struggle.
But she didn’t. In fact, she did quite the contrary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bonus: I’ve recently seen a… hysterical headcanon. As it turns out, some bees were excited at the idea of Blake getting branded and Yang going berserk, later saving all the faunus in the mine. It was supposedly justified by “faunus needed a reason to respect her” and of course, Bumbleby angst. Do I need to point out the White Savior trope and how blatantly racist and harmful it is? Do I really need to? Considering faunus are supposed to represent the civil rights movement? Especially knowing Adam’s previous treatment? If faunus were explicitly Black, this would be… well, this is a disaster, but it gets swept under the rug. As a woman of color, this headcanon just makes me want to cry.
I think I’ll have to divide it into two parts so it doesn’t get too heavy. Part 2 is here.
