when i think of transness, i think of how in my city, this goddam evangelical city where my community was terrorized by a hate-motivated mass shooting less than a year ago, the local code enforcement is always trying to regulate what can and can't grow in our yards. one day, when i asked the code enforcement officer who came to my door what qualifies as a weed, he said "anything that can grow without human intervention." i think of how there are beings that are approved and disapproved of by the most subjective of standards. i think of the many amazing plants, and the many amazing people, that grow and thrive in the harshest of climates, who bounce back after periods of the harshest droughts. i wish them all everything they need to thrive. i dream of a future in which we are not just holding on.

this is going to sound so silly, but this print didn't do as well on instagram as my other ones and now i'm like 'aw maybe it's not a good print' but anyway. that's just my brain doing what it does.

i am still learning how to use the kelsey excelsior and feel a little limited by the relatively small amount of wood type i have (can't wait to get more one day!). i tried to get creative with registration so i could print on paper larger than the chase size, with some success! vertical centering is a struggle, but i have some ideas utilizing little hooks for gage pins that can dip down below the platen that might work.

what i wish most is that the print was more interesting / complex. as much as i love black on chipboard, a classic, i would like to expand more. in this case, i am limited by time because the event is tomorrow.

i am interested in creating colored backgrounsusing ink, and i'm thinking of experimenting with a piece of acetate over linoleum. we'll see!

still dreaming of a vandercook one day. whistful sigh.
