I gave myself a writing challenge and I am fascinated by it

So basically I put the robins in a randomizer to give them a new order/role (because I just...kinda wanted to see what would happen + I like role-reversal AUs) and got results that are giving me a fucking brain blast.

Stephanie, the first sidekick who defines the role

Tim, the sidekick who dies and comes back wrong

Dick, the sidekick who saves Batman from himself

Damian, the sidekick who was never supposed to be a sidekick but would go on to prove everyone wrong

Jason, the youngest sidekick who is still the Kid Wonder

...So this is fucking wild. I've got some ideas and several of these fit perfectly (Dick's role is pretty similar to his one in canon), but some of these are fucking INCREDIBLE to explore (Steph being the first Robin is something I never even considered but tbh I kinda love it).

I probably won't write a fic or anything because tbh I don't like publishing my writing that much, but I might expand this into a full AU and post about it. I might randomize other stuff too (ie, stuff that I cannot change vs stuff that I cannot keep the same) but this fucking rules as a starting point.

But it'll still be fun to write. Definitely going the Joker Junior route with this because Batman Beyond kicks ass #Dick Grayson #He'll honestly probably be the easiest. Like...his role has not changed much outside of being younger/not the one who defines this #But I still think it'll be good to see how well I know Dick beyond his eldest brother thing (which is my best way of relating to him)#Damian al ghul #damian wayne #oh this is gonna kick ass #Bruce does not want his son to be a sidekick but Damian just kinda forces his way into that role #and everybody doubts him because of his history with the league but he later proves himself more than capable #to the point that he can set out mostly on his own and still thrive #Jason Todd #Jason being the baby of the family is also something I have never thought about but holy shit it could kick ass #I really hope that I don't roll 'Jason must die' or 'Robin 5 must die' on the randomizer. I just kinda want Jason to live this time #But unfortunately I double-screwed him because he's on the 'must happen' wheel twice now. I did not think these prompts through #TBH I am so happy that none of them rolled their OG roles. because that would have been so fucking boring

i think allos tend to assume that, bc i'm gray ace and don't rly feel the need to have sex, i rarely (if ever) have sexual fantasies. and while i'm sure that's true for a lot of gray aces, it isn't for me.

see, what actually happens is, my brain will find a couple of people or characters i actually feel attraction to, and a handful of scenarios that appeal to me. it will then stitch them together carefully and play the results on loop in my head like a comfort show, over and over and over again. it's more soothing than exciting (tho it can be exciting also), and i like it this way. they're good brain shows. 5/5 stars

still REALLY funny and interesting to me that they made the first three archons visibly reminiscent of herrschers from honkai. changed the format a little for nahida and rukkhadevata for the purposes of theresa and kallen parallels, but they've been holding onto the herrscher of binding's corpse so it's like by association. it's fine. but then we get to fontaine and hyv goes what the hell is a herrscher

Hank going against his new morals to help Connor in LCC it's even more funny when Connor remains loyal to CL and Hank gotta go after him searching all Detroit day and night, only to find him in a rooftop ready to kill the revolution Leader xD (that's a damn hunter dog for ya)

In this specific route makes sense Hank being pissed about Connor "pretending to be his friend". I mean, dude def watched the news about Jericho being raided, the news about Cristina getting even more rough with androids and the leaders being wanted for death. Probably thought was his fault almost directly and went face Connor with gun in hand ready to kill the guy.

#just my fucking confessions #people should experiment liking characters as individual not as collective or duo #cuz when u do that all the “buddy cop” veil (with Hank and Connor for example)#just doesn't make sense and u start inserting the characters on the original story.#really. i recommend a lot - sayin' that by experience.#esp with popular characters like these when mfs change everything and ignore important points #in Hank and Connor's case is even worse. they wash lotta important things about the characters as individual #Hank interfering in Connor's og character and Connor interfering in Hank's og character when they're in the same room/story/context #instead of actually studying the impact each other have in the way of thinking SEPARATELY in relation to the overall plot of the story #cuz in ships i noticed a lotta comparison happens. they get in specific roles.#Connor almost always become a dumb guy when he's with Hank and sometimes even infantilized like he's a weak and fragile dude #and Hank suddenly becomes an angel and a innocent guy with all defects forgotten when he's with Connor.

700 words of lofm written today! go me! maybe i will even continue writing more!

im having a very hard time ignoring editor/critic brain and just writing the first draft even though as i write i’m spotting massive issues with like....characterization and pacing and, to a lesser extent, plotting lol. the reason i cant get in the writing zone is bc a part of me is just wailing at how it sucks (even if not totally, i quite like a lot of it, but its not good enough).

but!!!!! its ok if this draft sucks because once it’s finished i can then tear it apart and build something better on its foundations! but i need the goddamn foundations FIRST.

#im literally gritting my teeth as i write half the time #the other half of the time i am having genuine fun #i just get in my own way #anybody else relate?#i just find it so bloody hard to keep writing and not get stuck in the editing loop #partly bc again ive written and published fic where every chapters has to be coherent and consistent ESPECIALLY in characterization #i have ALWAYS winged the plot and built it on prev chapters and gone w the flow of whatever i whimsically dreamt up even if that limited me #and forced me to stick with the framing of plot i came up with lol #it was fun #and worked out pretty well #but character work? DEMANDS excellence or at least to be good enough for me and my readers #so for og work writing a crappy first draft and not fixing it immediately is PAINFUL #and brand new for me and really hard lol #idk if im making sense but ye #kaatiba.speaks
