Last Wednesday a friend passed along a TikTok video that featured some crazy new tech. I won't tell you which one it is 'cause there's always crazy new tech.
Take your pick.
The difference about this particular crazy new tech is that it lit up specific ideas for using it in a professional environment. One of my professional environments. Most importantly, it was immediately obvious to me how to pitch this to a client.
Not twenty four hours go by and I'm talking to a producer. The discussion lights up more ideas and possibilities including one out of the box idea that involves costume and special effects make-up.
Coupla hours later I'm talking to my boss, lighting his brain on fire because he too sees possibilities and opportunities and sounds like he's ready to take this new tech out for a trial run... which is the next step regardless.of where we go with this.
Me, I'm now thinking about the profile of the kind of client for whom we would package a service crafted around this tech. There's definitely a lot of questions. Definitely a lot of variables.
The point I'm underlining, though, has nothing to do with crazy new tech or even business opportunities.
It has to do with ideas...
And how to feed them.
Friend of mine sent me a TikTok video that lit up my brain and I marinated those thoughts on my own for a while. Then I talked to a producer who broadened my thinking and inspired more thoughts, more possibilities, more opportunities. And then I spoke with my boss for a pretty lengthy deep dive into how we would use this tech, why we would use this tech, and who we'd pitch it to.
My point is the care and feeding of ideas. Because I didn't have a fully developed idea when I saw the video... I don't have a fully developed idea now.
I do have a better one, though. One that's fleshed out. One that bears more variables and possibilities.
Eventually the process becomes one of narrowing, of crafting something strategic.
At the start, though?
It's about getting every variable on the table and thinking about how each connects with others and what your place in that network is.
No idea, by the way, what's to become of my current mental fishing expedition. What I will say is that even if my efforts come to naught in either the short-term or the long-term, the mental exercise itself is good one for me 'cause ideas and how they connect are my thing.
So...
Does the exercise work?
Well, all I can tell you is that when I was still in school taking a business class, the teacher ran us through a similar exercise involving particular types of companies, how they could work together, and what they might achieve.
I was clueless, by the way. And came up with exactly nothing.
I had nothing while other students managed to come up with pretty slick ideas. Not sure how they came up with those ideas but for me, right now...
Mental exercises make them happen.

do you think stewy is old money rich?
yes i doooooo i think stewy’s family (and im sure this is the assumption we’re supposed to make) comes from a long line of very wealthy generational wealth. still not at the level of the roys considering the roys are supposed to be one of the richest families in the world, but very wealthy. im sure they lost a chunk of it in the revolution and after they immigrated, but again, remained very wealthy. i do however think that stewy now is the richest he’s ever been

Well, it’s been a journey, but it’s high time it’s come to an end. These baby baldies gotta leave the nest! *uploads massive file*
This piece reads well as a thumbnail/at a distance, which I quite like. I had to wind up the rendering so there are likely some little fiddly details that are missing, but I don’t know that they’re all that important.
This was an incredible project and I’m so happy I’ve tackled it, but I think I could sleep for a year.

Hey! Once the writing commissions thingie is up, what sorts of *uses* would you be okay with people doing with the prose? I assume we can post it online with attribution, but could we e.g. include it in an anthology or zine--again, obviously with credit? (This would be one where contributors aren't otherwise paid.) Totally understand if you're not comfortable with that, just want to now where the boundaries are… And under what name would you want to be credited?
hello, this is a great question!!
i just looked up fiverr's policy to be sure, & my first instinct was correct -- fiverr operates the same way that other sites i've ghostwritten for do, in that the client has all rights to the finished product in perpetuity, unless the freelancer specifies otherwise. this means that you as the client have the right to publish and distribute the writing as you see fit, or even to sign your name to it if you want to.
i don't plan to over-complicate this. if you want to include the piece in an anthology or zine, you're welcome to! just make sure it's compliant with the rules for that anthology/zine. ie: if you're not allowed to have a ghostwriter or someone who didn't individually apply participate, don't send it
but it's up to you to follow the rules there. once the work is delivered, what you do with it isn't up to me!
if you DO want to credit me when you publish/distribute the work, my byline is either Kitkat MacEachern or Katherine MacEachern. both are names that i write under. you're also welcome to link out to my ao3 (elliptical) in lieu of a byline if that works better. but like i said, it's not legally necessary or even expected.
like, none of this is required. basically, once i've written the thing for you, you own the thing & i'm not going to infringe on your rights to own/distribute the thing. the MOST i might do is add a note in my gig description specifying that i may keep samples for my professional portfolio. beyond that, once the transaction is done, you don't need to worry about me in the future!
thank you for asking <3

Toph
Toph does not become a cop. After she helps end the war and develops a whole new earthbending technique, her parents can't deny her awesomeness anymore, so they reconcile, although Toph decides that her parents are easier to love at a distance. She builds a life separate from them, first staying near Zuko and Iroh in the Fire Nation, and then finding her own footing in the Earth Kingdom. She regains access to the family money in this time, and instead of wasting her time becoming the thing she hates, she becomes a defense attorney. She fights especially hard for those brought up on crimes of povery and rebellion against unjust systems. Because she's independently wealthy thanks to her parents and the spoils of war, she takes most cases pro-bono. Eventually, she starts her own firm which makes its own profit, but she herself still mostly does pro-bono work.

Though the dragon was prone to roam beyond the borders of her homeland, rarely did she find herself on the land of Japan. Her few visits previous had been alright, enjoyable even, even though she wasn’t as familiar with the language as some of her other compatriots were. And though the dragon also wasn’t much of a partier, even she had to admit that the ambience of the club she had found herself in was quite different. But that could be said of any place inhuman clientele occupied hidden among the human world. It was something of a surprise to find such a gathering place hidden so plainly in sight, especially when she noticed that mortals also mingled with the crowd as well.
They couldn’t know the truth of this place could they? Mm, no...it didn’t seem so. Which meant they were wholly unaware and likely just as unaware regarding the true purpose behind their presence. Dark eyes regarded the scene over the rim of her glass from her place in a quieter corner of the room, another slow sip of liquor burning along the back of her tongue. Maybe it was something to look into if the place posed a threat to the mortals-- she had never been overly fond of wanton destruction. Chalk it up to a lingering bit of her past, but she had a bit of a protective soft spot for humans. Not that there was much she could do if the place was dangerous, she had to admit. Huaxiu and the others’ jurisdiction was solely in China, and although they would undoubtedly want to help if it came down to it, there was no use in getting them in trouble for sticking their noses in another pantheon’s domain.
Slim fingers brushed against the slinky material of her dress with a small twinge of gratefulness that she hadn’t overdressed. If anything, looking at the people around her...ugh, she might actually be a tad underdressed in the simple dark blue cocktail dress she had donned for the visit. Another sweep of the club had the dragon’s eyes landing on a dark-haired woman, one who clearly held the power here. It was obvious, and impossible to ignore the way other’s heads turned as she passed, nor the way the flow of attention seemed to be drawn wherever she went like a magnet. Alright then, she was the one to go to for information about this place.
Glass in hand, Meihui rose from her seat with confident, quick strides taking her right up to the woman herself. No use hovering around waiting to be acknowledged, she never did do well ‘playing’ at meekness.
“Quite the club you have here,” Meihui said in way of greeting with a small bow of her head. “I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Japan before on several occasions, but this is my first visit here.”

#Actually#One thing I will say about this trial and then be done with it is that people should be careful not to catastrophize because of the#verdict. 'Oh so women can't do [x] without [y] now'#Incorrect lol. There is no 'now' because women have always been victims of an unjust system. Absolutely nothing has changed and#nothing was going to change because our system is structured so that victims period (regardless of gender) always come out on the bottom#Our justice system is not a tool of justice; our justice system is a tool of status and power goes to whomever can afford it.#Sorry I don't know who thought this was ever going to be fair but it wasn't#A high-profile case with two high-profile clients seeking equally high-profile goals from this verdict and you guys thought this was#gonna be a nice fair little playdate?#Couldn't be me#Hollywood and politics do not mesh well; the rich pay for the outcomes they want and if you didn't get the outcome you#wanted I guess that means you didn't pay enough.#But this whole idea that Amber's loss is a loss for the people is sooo... lol. like when were victims ever in a position to win within a#system that protects abusers?#You can't say 364 days a year that rich people experience the world differently than ordinary people do#and then claim that Amber's loss has some bearing on Normal People#It does not <3#Amber was in a far better position to win than you or I or Sally from down the street and she still didn't and if you think that's just#because she's a Woman I encourage you to develop some perspective that's not so narrowly focused. There's a bigger picture here than#women good men bad but the way you guys reduce major historical or social events to these segmented points instead of observing them#as part of a whole is so frustrating.#Misogyny is a fraction of a bigger problem here. If you're going to be mad about something be mad about all facets of the social structure#rather than just highlighting one and creating an entire false narrative around it.
