heres a REALLYYY big stretch, but heres what i came up with.
on the walls, in Collector's castle, theres pictures put up of him and seemingly other Collectors. they all look the same, but their design stood out to me. because of this:
Tumblr media
the collector that *we* know looked like this whenever they were sealed away and trapped. waiting to be freed. now, the other collectors look like this:
Tumblr media
id say thats pretty dang similar. there are a few noticeable differences, such as the eyes and head shape and obviously size.
now, i was wondering if this look/form is Collector's *natural* form? obviously not when theyre trapped, but before that. maybe it had more mass, more control, more *use* to him.
if thats the case at all in any way, then maybe every Collector has a "human" form. maybe they were all trapped at some point?
OR, heres the stretch, maybe our collector has a "human" form as a way to rebel and sort of separate himself from the others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and as we know, they don't agree with their predecessors killing off the titans and (possibly)other beings and their planets. we know this because of them "fixing" the book, and seeming to feel bad/get upset whenever King brings up the titans being wiped out by Collector's kind. so if they *were* to rebel in any way, it'd be separating themselves from that history and their species the best they could. so, a new form would have suited them better. maybe thats all they wanted or needed to separate themselves from the others.
Tumblr media
they even look like this in some of the pictures! note the hair being shown(previous image(s)). but in other images, they look different. like the others.
Tumblr media
and i firmly believe that this is them because they are highlighted/a different colour than the rest. something not done on accident. it was to catch our eye and say, "Yes, this is him." and they're the only one throughout the images to have two separate forms.
I'm probably wrong, this just came to me randomly and i dont have much to back it up, but its food for thought, i think! also, if i am correct at all, i think it would be a nice parallel to Luz or King. I'll probably speak about that later when im less tired
Tumblr media
(maybe its just to keep the images simplified but that wasnt the case in Hollow Mind or other instances. still though, food for thought)
edit: i was looking at the images again and i think im right. because theres this
Tumblr media
human-like collectors!!!! big ones! with our smaller collector there!(also appearing more human-like)

My F*cked Up Collector Backstory AU (Pt. 1)
So, recently I made a post mentioning that I kinda made a small AU type concept for an alternate Collector backstory. A backstory that I described as “kinda really fucked up, even for me”. It seems that a few people are interested, and I believe that it would be fun to at least just put out there for my fellow Collector angst lovers. Maybe even my general angst lovers. Possibly a few Hunter angst lovers? Who knows.
Probably just gonna call this the “Servitude Collector AU”. Might make other types of posts related to it. Might make a few OCs. It kinda relies/thrives on OCs. The OCs won’t quite be the focus of the AU, but they will be important to it.
Anyways, I didn’t quite properly write this out in the form of a proper, straightforward description. Instead, I thought of what is more of a half written one-shot in which I torment Luz and King by making them incredibly uncomfortable as Colly just kinda casually trauma-dumps on them a bit because Colly doesn’t realize how deeply disturbing the topic is.
This is the first part of that thing:
So the Collector now lives in the Owl House with the Owl Fam (might also just live with Camila, but hangs out sometimes in the Demon Realm), and is slowly becoming a functioning member of society. He’s actually relatively chill once you get to know him, just a bit bratty and way too powerful for his age. He also has a habit of saying some…questionable remarks. This is a particularly noteworthy incident.
So Luz, Colly, and King are all chilling in the house, each doing their own thing in the living room. Luz mentions that she needs to go in a few minutes.
Colly, who is eating a sandwich, pauses and asks, “wait, which friend is that one again?”
Luz: “You know, Hunter. The tall, blonde guy? Friend of mine? Doesn’t seem to like you? Used to be the Golden Guard? You probably know him.”
Then Colly casually drops this one-liner: “Oh, right, Belos’ pet.”
The other two people in the room freeze at this, and Luz slowly turns to him to make what is approximately this facial expression:
Tumblr media
King, who knows exactly what’s going on here, quickly says: “Collector, buddy, we talked about this.”
The Collector scoffs. “Oh here we go again. I already told you, like, a bajillion times: 1) it’s a cultural thing, 2) it wasn’t that bad, and 3) it wasn’t slavery,” he says before crossing his arms.
Luz is now deeply alarmed, but King and Colly are completely lost in their own little argument at this point.
King: “Based on the way you described it before, it sounds exactly like slavery.”
Colly: “Just because we were considered property, and had little personal rights, and were domestic servants, and could face cruel and unusual punishments for disobedience, and had no property of our own, and were under the threat of execution if we tried to escape, and…okay, that does sound exactly like slavery when I say all that out loud, but I promise you that it isn’t. Besides, it wasn’t all that bad. I mean, I turned out great.”
Luz, quietly, to herself: “Ah, yes, great, well, that’s one way to say it.”
Colly: “Besides, we had some rights. We couldn’t be executed without permission from the king, we were allowed to have guards (we couldn’t really hire our own or ask for them, but we could have them), and it was illegal to punish any of us in ways that would give long lasting physical scars and/or injuries (though, in a society full of magic, that doesn’t mean much).”
King: “Besides the guards, that is less than the bare minimum.”
Colly: “Well since only the royals could have pets, we all lived with pretty well off people, and they would typically treat us pretty well if we behaved. We got nice food, comfortable living spaces, fancy clothes, all that nice stuff. We also never had to do any hard labor unless it involved magic, so I’d say we lived in luxury. Unless your person wasn’t very nice. Then it became a lot more complicated.”
Luz, finally deciding to speak up: “Um, I just have a small question to ask.”
Both turn to her, remembering that she’s present, and Colly gestures for her to continue.
Luz: “Yeah, so, what are you two…talking about? Like, what even is a ‘pet’ in this context?”
Colly gets clearly excited to explain, and immediately begins infodumping.
Colly: “Okay, so, in my species, we have your typical caste system-”
Luz: “Wait, caste system?!”
Colly, annoyed at being interrupted: “Yeah, you know, caste system. Do humans not know what that is?”
Luz: “No, we do…lemme just go grab something real quick.”
She runs out of the room really quickly and scrambles back in with a journal and pencil in hand. The journal is labeled “‘Discussion’ Topics to Have With the Collector”, which is essentially Luz/Camila’s shared journal that basically functions as Colly’s therapy folder, but in journal form. Everyone in our squad has their own “‘Discussion’ Topics” journal (“‘Discussion’ Topics to Have With Luz”, “‘Discussion’ Topics to Have With Hunter”, etc). I would just like to let that be known.
Luz sits back down and opens the journal, ready to start writing.
Luz: “Okay, I’m ready. Go!”
The next part occurs with more visual storytelling stuff.
Colly: “So, ours is, from top to bottom: Monarchs, Nobles, Potential Nobles (which are powerful families that might become nobles), Starkeepers, Planet Organizers, Grand Military, Space Jumpers, Researchers, Librarians, Scholars, Assistant Librarians, Guards, Commoners, and Servants, though nobody is really born a servant.
If a child is born a commoner, but has unusually high magical potential, then they will typically be taken by the Royal Magic Tracking Agency and sent to the nearest Starkeeper, who will perform a few tests before announcing that a new ‘Servant’ is available. They will label how powerful the child is, therefore determining what type of servant they will be, and hold an auction of sorts overseen by the monarchs. Only nobles and the monarchs can get servants, and nobles are typically only allowed to have one of each type of servant. Monarchs can have a couple, but they are very picky, and only have a few at most, especially considering the number of assassinations some of the servants have planned on each other.
There are a few types of servants: There’s Planners, who do things like keeping track of your records and organizing your schedule and reminding you of important things you need to do and writing things down for you and stuff. There’s Bodyguards, who are your personal protectors at your side at all times. There’s Caretakers, who do things like clean the home and make food and set things out for parties and occasionally act as waiters and stuff. There’s also a few other ones that I don’t really remember.
And then there’s Pets! Pets are basically there to entertain. You can dress them up to make them look pretty, have them stand around as decorations at parties, do entertainment stuff like singing and dancing and cool tricks, and even play games and stuff! I’d say that Pets are the best, since we don’t have as many responsibilities as the others, besides playing with kids sometimes, if the nobles have any. We’re also often some of the most powerful.
The complicated thing about us Pets is that we have a weird place in the caste system. We’re often considered more important than Commoners and even Guards, and some of us can tell them what to do (depending on the situation), but we aren’t really considered ‘people.’ We’re kind of like really expensive objects. Like, we’re important and powerful people often find us to be more important than not powerful people, and we get taken care of and treated as valuable, but if anyone said that the object should have rights, everyone would laugh. I mean, sure it’s valuable, but it’s not a person. And if someone had to choose between either saving, say, a Commoner, or saving a Pet, everyone would save the Commoner.
And that’s how Pets are viewed. We’re valued, but we don’t really have any kind of bodily autonomy…but hey! It’s better than being a caretaker! Those guys are seriously overlooked and neglected. It’s honestly kinda sad. But I can’t really say anything about that. My Lady was really mad last time…”
Colly spaces out for a second, and Luz stops writing as she and King both look at each other, concerned.
~~~~
So, this got a lot longer than initially planned. I’m just split this up into multiple posts. I’ll add their links to this once I’m done with them.
Anyways, hope ya’ll find it interesting!
Oooh what are your thoughts about toh finale 👀 bring on the salt 😤
Alright everybody, buckle your fucking seatbelts.
First thing's first, I think that this show was suffering from major story-related issues that started as far back as mid-season 2. My problems start officially with Elsewhere and Elsewhen, because this is where I feel the show dropped the ball on one of the most important elements of any piece of media: its villain.
I firmly believe that a story is only as good as its villain, and up until this point, The Owl House had been doing an amazing job with Belos. The audience was kept in the dark about the true nature of his backstory, but, crucially, with enough material and hints provided to extrapolate the nature of it before it was revealed.
And many, many people came to the same conclusions. Luz, our lovable protagonist since day one, has had to come to her own grips with her weirdo-hood, the fact that she's not a Chosen One, that this world doesn't operate by the laws of her fantasy books. What better way for our villain to be than to have him directly foil this? Prior to Elsewhere and Elsewhen, this was the main thought about Philip Wittebane. Someone just like Luz, ostracized from his community in a much more visceral and potentially violent way, who also found sanctuary and some kind of acceptance on the Boiling Isles, before something causes him to become the Emperor we know today.
Elsewhere and Elsewhen and Hollow Mind essentially took this idea and spat in its face. The villain they gave us had absolutely zero depth, and was outright stated in the finale to be just that: only evil and deluded.
Even with the look into Philip and Caleb's life provided in Thanks to Them, the finale still took this and did what? Absolutely nothing with it. I just have no idea why they would put that much effort into giving Philip a backstory that's as potentially sympathetic as what we see, only to write him off as evil and only evil.
I've seen other people lauding this choice, because "good for them for showing us that not everybody has to be redeemed!" I am not saying that Belos could have or should have been redeemed, in fact, I had been rooting for him to die since the early seasons, a good death befitting of a good villain. Actually examining his backstory and fleshing him out as a character does not mean he would have been redeemed! If the Owl House's moral is that "people are complex", this would have aided in the delivery of that message!
Instead, what we got was three specials full of nothing but hot air, a gigantic amount of screentime devoted to a character that always felt like a shoehorn-in at best with the Collector, and the most disappointing, anticlimactic villain defeat I've ever seen in my life. And yes, I know there are people who loved it and think that this series can do no wrong. I acknowledge that this show is incredibly important culturally and that it was unfortunately limited by its cancellation. But this does not protect it from any and all criticism, especially when said criticism has to do with the integrity of the plot and the overall message of the show.
“The only regret I have is selling my soul to spineless scum like you.” — Chapter 10 of Part Four - Collector of the Sahuldeem series has been up for over a month!
...and I’m just now posting art for it, haha, oops. :’) As I said, I’ve had a few things going on IRL that have needed my attention (and I’ll be posting about the biggest of those things quite soon). This big ol’ RL event is still in-progress, so not as much headway as I’d like has been made with Part Five - Martyr, but rest assured that it is still on the horizon. Also a hell of a Q&A backlog.
In the meantime, enjoy this weird art~
I get that the crew didn't want to just ignore everything the Collector did, and didn't have the time to develop an actual redemption arc but still - feels like there should be another way than dumping them back into space and not even include them in the final scene.
awhwgfwfgfeh every day i think about how our collector never brings up the other collectors or shows any grief or remorse abt them being gone and how the Only thing he has ever shown emotion about with them was being upset about how violent his species was. eveyr day i think about how likely it is they must have treated him badly enough for him to not be devastated by the loss (or if he IS affected by the loss how badly hes repressing his emotions. both options suck!)
Proselfship Advent day eleven: making a blanket fort and/or nest 🏰
˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴡʀɪᴛɪɴɢ 📓
So many cute pairs I could do for this one... But I've decided to go ahead and write for my newest f/o, King Moonracer 🌕💕
I'm a very indecisive person, so I actually decided to make two s/is for this canon! Tramp, who uses he/they and Marietta who uses she/they ♡
Tumblr media
It'd been a bit of a long, hectic day on the Island of Misfit Toys. With Christmas rapidly approaching, all citizens had come together to help prepare those who'd been brought to the island over the course of the year to head out with Santa, to be delivered to the home of a child expertly chosen by the big man himself to give them the love every toy so deeply desires. Every little misfit joyfully joined the expedition, leaving their kind King Moonracer alone on the snowy tundra.
It was never a sad time of year for the King, in fact, it had to be the happiest time of the year for him and all denizens of his little kingdom, filled with cheer and relief at the fact his stray subjects were being left in such capable hands.
Though in recent years, his Christmas time hadn't been spent entirely alone, two toys seemingly overjoyed to stay by his side. The monarch would wonder every year why they chose not to take the easy path off the desolate island, but never argue, happy to have some form of company.
At the moment, those two would be running amok in the castle, each trying to prepare their own treats for the King to enjoy upon his return.
"Etta! Where'd ya go? I gotta show you somethin'!"
The shouts rang through the castle's empty halls, accompanied by the sound of paws pattering and slipping every so often across the clean floor as the shaggy, lanky mutt followed his nose right to the kitchen. If she wasn't going to take the chance to respond, he'd just head right to where she'd been all morning making various sweets to serve upon the Kings arrival.
"Slow down right now if you're coming in here! I don't need you knocking something over after I've been slaving away --"
Stepping around the counter to meet the dog at the door, her luxuriously red tail lashes in warning, the foxes eyes narrowed to slits, awaiting the explanation for why her companion would so rudely barge into her workspace.
"The Kings on his way home! I really saw 'im this time, I promise! Don'tcha wanna see what I did? Bring your cookies! They smell real scrumptious."
"Oh my - Alright, alright. Give me a minute to clean up and I'll be on my way. Where is this surprise you've prepared?"
"Next to the fireplace! It'll be so cozy y'all will see!"
He was already off, shouting that last response over his shoulder and leaving the lovely chef to sigh in fondness, hastily wiping things off before taking off for the grand fireplace. Carefully balancing a tray of chocolate chip cookies, fluffy tail swaying gracefully behind her with each step, she wondered what kind of mischief Tramp could have possibly been getting into. Perhaps she should have been keeping a closer eye on him, always telling the King she would do so to their hearty amusement, even if she meant it quite seriously.
Just what they needed around here, a trouble making hound dog, always making messes -
"There ya are! Finally!"
This particular mess had the fox frozen in her tracks, said hound dog having gathered every sheet and blanket he could find, using the castle furniture to construct an impressively large fort in the middle of the room and giving it a cushy, nest-like inside with the blankets.
"Oh my dear Saint Nicholas... What have you done?"
"Ain't it awesome? Come inside!"
What could she do but oblige? Trying not to burst into giggles at the absurdity of it, dipping her head to carefully wiggle on inside with her tray.
"Now isn't this fun.. So warm and cozy, this is what you've been doing all morning?"
"Yup!"
Tramp looked awfully proud of himself, little tail wagging at a rapid place as he leaned closer to sniff tentatively at the plate, managing to scoop a cookie with her tongue before that cherry red tail was flicked across his nose.
"It really did only take me that long! We can relax and snuggle, eat some of these delicious sweets."
"Please darling, finish chewing the sweets before you brag."
"Mm- Sorry ma'am."
Muttering the response before bothering to swallow the cookie, he patted the spot next to him with a paw, delighted to nuzzle his wet nose into her soft fur as she readily took the seat. She always smelled like the sweetest roses, like the most delicious cake you've ever smelled, he couldn't help wagging at such a rapid speed he'd wiggle a bit.
The first few times this happened, she'd been a bit bothered by somebody ruffling her fur so intensely, knocking her little hat askew. But after the years they'd spent together, the seasons they'd watched pass, her affection grew to the point she'd rather reach a small paw up to scratch behind his ear before she'd try and push him away.
"Now what do we have here?"
The deep voice took them both off guard, two pairs of startled gazes now staring at the large snout that had poked itself through the entrance. Tracking down the scent of cookies, or merely a lucky guess on where his consorts could have run off to? Either way, it was obviously immediately confirmed by the sight of their little clubhouse.
"Is there room for one more in there?"
" 'course there is!! I made sure there was room for our favorite kitty!"
How charmingly bold, Etta couldn't help the little blush spreading across her cheeks at the casual use of "kitty" to refer to their great, majestic king. Especially when he seemed to enjoy it all the same, filling the small space with the heavenly sound of his hearty laughter as he ducked low enough to squeeze broad shoulders and those sleek wings through the hanging curtains.
Just a bit of scooting and rearranging and they were able to get comfortable, both smaller toys now snuggling back into the lion who'd curled his warm, soft body around them.
"How did things go today, your highness?"
Etta's voice was soft, a bit sleepy as she settled down for the first time all day really, gazing at her dear companions through half lidded eyes.
"Very well, every last subject was able to fit in Santa's sleigh once again. This partnership proves to be one of the most beneficial we've seen in this kingdom."
The air of sleepiness was only furthered as the King started gently lapping at their heads, encouraging them to nuzzle into his side and get some rest. They'd all worked hard today for the sake of the little kingdom they loved, even when it was just a kingdom of three.
None of them were ever happier than they were on Christmas.
Me: *Sees headcanons for the Collector’s backstory*
Me: “Okay but what if I could make it even more fucked up.”
3 hours later
Me: *Staring off into space with doc filled with a detailed explaination of a potential backstory for an OC based on the Collector in my arms*
Me: “...........”
Me: “I may or may not be a sadist.”
~~~~~~~~~~~
So I did something a little fucked up-
I may or may not have made a version of the Collector in which they are mostly the same (particularly in terms of their more canon traumas), but their backstory is also a bit like Spinel’s, but with a bit more dehumanization and a lot more direct abuse. It gets really messed up and disturbing in very specific ways, particularly when it’s slowly revealed to both the audience and the characters just how deeply traumatized this kid is.
I low key wanna make an AU or something for this concept, because I definitely don’t think it’s Colli’s actual canonical backstory, but wouldn’t it be fucked up if it was? Whadda ya think, should I make another post talking about my messed up idea?

Owl House fans, tell me if this sounds familiar:
Thousands of years ago, there was a child who had immense psychic powers strong enough to shift reality, but was incredibly lonely with nobody like them to play with. They wreaked chaos across the land until the planet was near ravaged, causing the ruler to seal them away in a tomb for thousands of years, never aging until they once again broke free.
This is the main antagonist Yugi of the Toonami classic Tenchi in Tokyo, a character of which is the inspiration behind Eda, and now plenty of reason to believe the influence for The Collector.
I haven't watched the full anime myself, but I've seen enough and done enough research to know this is far beyond coincidence. I highly suggest looking up some clips online because it truly is uncanny.
The characters share the same backstory, the same motivation (wishing to create a world of their own in which to play), the same power set, express the same fears of doubting whether others are true friends or not and being all alone, and have similar relationships.
The Collector has King, whereas Yugi (the girl in question) has Sasami. Yugi tries to convince Sasami to come with her to create a world made for just the two of them, where they can play forever without anyone's interference. Sasami says they are just children, and wants to see her family and friends again. Yugi attempts to kidnap her and force her to comply for her own good, until Sasami tells her off and wonders how she could be so cruel. Yugi laments that true friends are fake, but lets Sasami go and retrwats (before she is promptly talked down and invited into the family, if she can learn to trust them).
Yugi's solution to her own overwhelming power is to be put into some kind of cryosleep chamber so she can age appropriately and reunite with everyone in some years' time. Sasami visits every night to tell a bedtime story about her day went.
Another interesting fact is that Yugi and the Empress who imprisoned her were once basically family, which is something speculated upon a lot within the fandom.
All of that to say, I could see a similar ending taking place in the Owl House given how alike the plots are already. There is also some intrigue in the way Yugi splits her personality, literally creating a more vengeful side driving destruction, and a friendly side she uses to play with Sasami. There's lots of theories that The Collector has split sides to themselves, and it will be interesting to see if that makes it to canon.
