This one is hit and miss for me. Stunning artwork, but oddly, the flaws are within the story. It is a family reunion, but even bits of that feel rushed to increase the dramatic elements of the story.
One of the things I felt when reading this story is that only one character had any growth. That character is Roy. However, the ability to show that growth was very short-lived as they moved onto the other story elements very quickly.
I know this is the start of a 12 part mini series. However, there are very few payoffs in the first issue and no indication at all as to what this story will be about other than traveling through space to reunite. Other than having a pre-existing love for these characters, it felt like this issue did little to hook you on why this is going to be an essential read.
Tumblr media
Green Arrow is not the type of hero I see when I think of a cosmic adventure for many reasons. He has no skillset that lends well to the more cosmic side of things like space travel and other things. He is human and has human flaws. It makes no sense that he would last long in a cosmic fight. Batman prepares for these kinds of things. Green Arrow and other human characters don't put in the preparation time for these kinds of fights. Trick arrows can only get you so far believably.
Perhaps the story will take a turn I am not expecting and deliver in future issues, but as of right now, this seems like the most exaggerated story to tell in order to bring Green Arrow back into the fold. The cool thing with comics is that they don't need a cosmic explanation to relaunch a brand new #1. In this case, it feels like too much explanation as to what has been happening is going to hinder the series. A simple, stylistic approach would work so much better, given there are so much unexplored emotional moments for this family.

Tbt(ish) to Thursday 5th June 2014. The time is some time in the evening, the place is Temple Studios, and I'm starting off with a very chaotic Grocer loop courtesy of Conor Doyle.....
The line on the cast board that would ordinarily say who we might have playing the Grocer tonight is curiously blank. I have a theory, so once I am inside, I head straight for the grocery store, where my suspicions are confirmed - Grocer Doyle.
Conor Grocer is EXCELLENT. His interaction with Romola - "we're the same, you and I" curiously loaded with a whole bunch of meaning - followed by his orange-eating - OH MY GOODNESS HIS ORANGE-EATING, NO ONE EATS ORANGES LIKE THAT, CONOR. Practising his lines furiously for his Drugstore Girl interaction and eating his orange even more furiously. From the background music, there's no way in hell this lasted any less than at least 8 minutes. That's a PRETTY LONG time to be watching an adult man demolish citrus like an overgrown 5 year old.
Drugstore. Opening doors with wrists because sticky orange fingers. Napkins. Grocery store. Hand-cleaning. Orange peel disposing. Script-page hiding. Drugstore Girl. Lemonade. As the Drugstore Girl leaves, he takes a large sip of lemonade and then instantly, without even appearing to consider it, he opens his mouth and lets the whole lot tumble straight back into the glass. Now, I feel like there's usually a 1:1 at this point, but Conor seems to 1:1 out of the normal order. I guess he just polishes tins of peas until it is time for the hoedown. It's the sort of thing he'd do (not least because it is in The Script). And then it is off to the hoedown, picking up a waistcoat and cowboy hat on the way through the saddlery. I watch Eugene dancing with the Barman and trying to hassle the Drugstore Girl. However, the lights are right in my face so when we get to the fight, I realise he's already gone and I didn't even see him leave. I follow the Drugstore Girl through the saddlery - she drifts back to the drugstore without the usual interaction, I drift back to the grocery store, and there's Eugene. When I originally arrived in the grocery store, there was already an audience member in place, and that's who is now taken off for the 1:1. And so I drift over to the window to watch Miguel and Faye dance until they emerge.
And then, where other Grocers have gone to the drugstore to act out the strange scene with the Drugstore Girl until she collapses in the phone booth, Conor decides it's time for another 1:1, and this time it's my turn. And so in we go, where everything proceeds precisely as it had the time I was taken into the back room by a previous Grocer, until we get to page 2 of the script and now Eugene is telling me the story not of how Eugene Green dreamed of being a star but of how the little boy was all alone and the world was a lump of rotten wood. I am terribly aware that he is extremely sad and on the verge of tears the whole time. Thankfully we get to the sad hug before it gets *too* much to bear, but still!
And now the 1:1 is over and Eugene is changing back into his Eugene outfit (which he basically had on under his Grocer outfit), and off we go through the studio gates. We move through the secretary's office, where Alice is already firmly in place, and he leaves his script on the desk behind her as he slips through to the corridor. Although this seems like a very sensible thing to have done, I really don't recall ever having seen it happen before!
AND THEN. STAIRS. Reaching his arms forward to clutch the bannisters, swinging his feet down several steps all at once, repeating until reaching the turn in the staircase, revolving 180°, hopping to the side until he is facing the next set of stairs, and then repeating, ALL THE WAY down to studio 2. Of all the magical and beautiful and devastating and shocking and wonderful and horrible and terrifying and incredible things I've seen in this building over the months, I am filled with an awesome fear that this, long term, might be the only thing I end up remembering. And you know what? I'm not entirely not okay with that.
We head to the birthday tent, where Eugene manages to remove his clothes without too much drama. He then takes the red sparkly dress and puts it on. This appears to be going relatively according to plan, until he starts to stuff a scarf in his chest for padding and realises there's something missing. (It is impossible to tell if this is something that Conor or Eugene has forgotten.) He takes the dress off, puts the bra on (properly, mind!), then puts the dress back on, and starts stuffing effectively this time. He then lies on his back across the table, seizes his own feet at terrifically uncomfortable-looking angles, and slips his be-socked feet into the Dolores shoes.
The others arrive for the party. Carl Harrison Frankie, who has a terrific hyena laugh, mocks Eugene's tiny cake mercilessly, and the party happens as the party happens. The whole time, I am very aware that I have also seen Conor play Frankie more than once, and I do come to realise that once Frankie's been through the studio a little more, he'll end up in the same position Eugene is in now. That knowledge still doesn't make me feel particularly empathetic towards him, as he continues to be rude to Eugene pretty much every time he opens his mouth.
Anyway! The party draws to its ignoble close, and then Alice is there and the casting offer for the Grocer happens. Then Eugene and his faithful followers head off across studio 2 back towards the staircase when suddenly, my eye is caught:
THE DOOR TO STUDIO 8 IS WIDE FUCKING OPEN.
And I know how this works, I know in my head that this is a Fool trap and not an opportunity for extended rummaging, but in the moment my heart just wants to look inside the room and do said rummaging, so without even thinking about it, I abandon Eugene, head in, and go straight to the desk. The first thing I find is a letter, infuriatingly at page 4. I'm turning the pages, trying to find the first page so I know who it's to or the last page so I know who it's from, and I'm aware there's another audience member in the room too, and then I'm still page-turning but I'm also aware the other audience member has just been sent out by a Greig Cooke Fool, who is looking extremely clown-like and locking the door firmly. It turns out being locked unexpectedly in a room with a clown is quite alarming, even if it's only half-unexpectedly and even if it's not like it's a clown I've never met before. He sends me through the curtain and encourages me to sit on the bed, so far so familiar. He then gently pushes me down so I'm lying on the bed and offers me the white woolly horse to cuddle. He then gets extremely close to me as he starts stroking my face and hair and telling me the grandmother's story and I start getting FEROCIOUS deja vu. Then he finds the white string (wool), which is even more awkward when you're lying down than when you're sitting up, and he takes the little horse away from me and we follow the string through the door.
We start the journey down to the basement hand-in-hand which is a nice start, but I guess I give off an aura or something because we're about halfway down the ramp when suddenly I am firmly embraced and we continue all the way down until we reach the horse. When we turn around, we're RIGHT NEXT to it, which does somehow make me jump, but we don't start running yet, we simply move away from its prone body and look around the darkness as suddenly Stanford's voice echoes out unexpectedly in the distance, reciting the gypsy boy bit. This is terrifying, and now we're running frantically back up the ramp to the trailer. I have my mask returned to me, and I'm sent out into the night again. This is the only time I see the Fool all night; due to sitting awkwardly on the steps of studio 2, I won't even see him at the finale later.
This has been quite the start to the evening, and I now need to take a little time to pull myself together before deciding where to go next...

Summer Baby / Dominik Szoboszlai
dominik szoboszlai x reader PART 1
Tumblr media
It’s July, 2024. A few of the Liverpool boys are looking for a getaway before and between the summer series and stumble upon your mom’s vacation home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. There, they spend their time enjoying the sun and one in particular, enjoying the company. You find yourself falling for a charming Hungarian- Domi.
Part 1- vacation spot
warnings- none in this first part
a/n- thinking of making this a series and being more active 🫡 also, lets pretend theres not like the EUROS 😭 Let my story work 😭😭
The whole thing was Harvey’s idea. He wanted the team to have a getaway. Those without kids and wives he wanted to rope into his beach trip.
“Cmonnn’” Harvey said to Trent and Dominik, “This will be fun, you know. We need to relax for a few minutes instead of always being go, go, go!”
After letting the twenty-one year old rant for a few minutes, Trent sighed.
“I don’t think it’s happenin’ for me at least. I got summer plans. Maybe try the youngsters?” He said to Harvey who looked at Dominik with hope.
Dominik shook his head in return, showing Harvey he was on his own with this one. Harvey slapped his knee, and blurted out to nobody in particular,
“I’m booking it anyway!”
Two weeks later, he had convinced Caoimhin, Conor and Bobby, along with Curtis.
Harvey just about had his car packed for the airport when his phone rang. The name ‘Dominik Szoboszlai’ lit up the screen and forced Harvey to think about work on his first day to himself.
“Ya, whats up man,” Harvey groaned into his phone.
“Have you gone to America yet?” Dominik’s voice sounded firm on the phone.
“No, I’m just about on my way though, plane leaves in 3 hours.”
“Got room for one more?” The Hungarian asked.
“I- Uh, Always.” Harvey said to the man.
And Hours later they were at your front doorstep.
Your mother never shared the renter’s information with you, but even if she had, you would not be prepared for what you opened the door to.
You had been a Liverpool fan since childhood, but she never got into it as much as you did and always got the players confused. Her most recent one was Virgil van Dijk. Though he had been playing for years, she always got him confused with a newer signing like Szoboszlai or Gravenberch. She wasn’t great with names, so the name Harvey Elliott was just like John Smith or Jane Doe.
When the renters knocked at your door you rushed to greet them as you always did when your mother was out.
“I’m so sorry, I’ll be there in a second!” You shouted from in the house when they knocked a second time.
You opened the door to Harvey Elliott and his ragtag group of Liverpool players.
“I- Uh- what? Harvey Elliott?” You asked, confused and starstruck, but mostly confused. “Yep that’s me, I’m Harvey and this is-”
You interrupted him. “Curtis Jones, Bobby Clark, Caoimhin Kelleher and Conor Bradley.”
Your wide eyed expression was met with a warm smile.
“Lads, she’s a fan.” Harvey said, earning a nod from Bobby and a chuckle from Caoimhin.
“Yeah, I am. Sorry,” You apologized but you weren’t sure what for. recognizing him? interrupting him?
“What’re you sorry for? It’s nice to know the ladies in America know who I am,” Curtis said in his scouse accent.
That comment earned a chuckle from the five of you and you noticed another man at one of the two Jeeps you assumed the rented.
“Is that, Szoboszlai?” You asked rhetorically. The perfect hair and tattoos belonged to only one player on the squad and you knew without a doubt.
Harvey chuckled.
“May we come in?” He asked.
You opened the door and asked if they needed any help with any luggage or things of that matter.
when they said they were all set, You brought them to the kitchen and showed them their keys.
“The beach house has a few doors, so you’ll each have a set of 3 keys,” You said to your captive audience of six football players.
“Red is for the front door, daisies is for the back door and green is for the car park. They have initials on them if you forget.”
You glanced up, meeting Dominik’s eyes as he licked his top lip and then smiled. You blushed and turned away from him embarrassed. He chuckled to himself and hoped nobody would notice.
“Thank you for the keys, now, can we have a tour?” The flirty Hungarian asked you and you shook your head yes.
“What kind of a host would I be if I said no,” you replied smacking your hand against your chest in a playful way. The boys laughed and followed you as you led them to the living rooms and family room.
“This is where most watch movies and hang out after a long beach day.” You said and Conor sunk into the couch with a sigh.
“C’mon. The tours not done yet Mr.Bradley!” Harvey mocked him.
Curtis smacked the top of Conor’s head urging him to get up.
“Alright! Im up!” Conor sighed, getting up.
You showed them the bathrooms and the rest of the house until you got to the long hallway where they would be staying.
“Here’s the bedrooms, take your pick,” you said to them.
Being just big little boys, 5 out of the 6 of them ran to find the biggest room.
Dominik stayed behind and looked at you. You returned his longing look with a smile.
“What’s on your mind Szoboszlai?” you asked.
He let out a ‘hm’.
“Can you show me the beach. I want to go outside by the beach,” He said in his charming Hungarian accent.
“Of course.” You said.
You guided him out the back door and to the porch steps that led straight on to your portion of the beach.
“Here she is, the beautiful sea.” You said.
A smile appeared on Dominik’s face.
“Will you walk with me, so I wont get lost?” He asked, sheepishly, like he was embarrassed to ask.
You nodded and walked with him, making simple conversation, asking about Liverpool, his experiences there and how he was. He asked about you, noting your favorite seashells by the fact that you stopped to pick them up and shove them in the pockets of your shorts before jogging to catch up with him. The fourth or fifth time a Olive shell appeared, He stopped himself, picked it up, and placed it in your hand.
“Thank you,” You said looking up to meet his eyes.
He smiled his million dollar smile. “you’re welcome.”
As you returned to the beach house, you giggled.
“What?” Dominik asked confused and grinning.
“Nothing,” You smiled noticing his hair was no longer as proper as he usually had it. It was fluffy and curly from the beach air and you loved the way it looked. “You have beach hair. It looks good Szoboszlai,” You said.
“You can call me Domi,” He said.
Caoimhin and Curtis looked out the window of the living room to see the two of you having fun on the beach and chuckled.
“Domi, your hair looks good.” You repeated, in a flirty tone.
“Thank you,” He smiled.
and all of a sudden, you were enamored.
a/n- AHHH i hope this is good. Im gonna make a pt 2 if this gets some likes/comments/ reposts. Also Anon requests back on!! pls request

Over analyzing the Sword Catcher official art because I can.
Tumblr media
First up Kel. He has his sword catcher medallion on and his clothes look blue then green like he’s described wearing in the book because the Queen wanted him to wear her home country’s colours and it doesn’t look like what we see Conor wearing in his portrait so Kel might’ve picked this outfit himself. The coat also ruffed up’s little, one of the sleeves even has a tear in it, he doesn’t start getting into any serious fights in the book until he sides with the Ragpicker King, around the same time he starts finally exploring his own identity if only slightly so this’s probably around that time frame. He has the scar on his eyebrow that Conor is described as having which I can feel has some sort of importance to their characters. The background is some waves, clearly referencing his love of the ocean and sailing, along with swords indicating his sword catcher title. His foreground is one of the less interesting with just a pile coins for his wealth as the prince’s fake cousin, a pile of scroll for how much reading he does, and a pile of something back that I’m not quite sure what it is. It looks like it might be some black powder but he hasn’t done anything with black powder yet in the story. Maybe it’s a metaphor for life as he knows it getting blown up as the story goes along, who knows. It’s also worth noting that he doesn’t have any flowers in his portrait, this might be nothing but it’s almost like a theme with most of the other portraits so it’s worth noting.
More characters under the cut because this got long:
Tumblr media
After that we have Conor. His clothes and jewelry aren’t anything to write home about, it looks properly royal with plenty of jewels showing of his wealth. Though I do take not that the eyebrow that has a scar though it is covered in his portrait. His background depicts the Castelane lion on top of the city state’s national colour of red obviously a nod to him being the prince of the City-State. The hour glasses seem to represent his limited time as pressure begins to build on him, and I’m not quite sure what the falling rings represent, maybe they’re supposed to be coins and represent something about his debt. Again the piles of money, books, and scrolls represents his wealth and being well read. We can see what one do the scrolls says but it’s not very clear and seem to be written in one of the world’s fictional languages, if anyone can translate it please send it to me but it might not be anything special. The banner/flag in the corner is certainly important but I can’t remember anywhere that it would belong to at the moment so again if you can think of anything that would be a huge help. It’s also once again worth noting he’s one of the few character to not have flowers in his portrait.
Tumblr media
Lin’s is arguably the most obvious. She has her mystery-stone brooch, her ashkar ring, is wearing the ashkar’s mandatry colours of blue and grey, and her medical satchel. The background has a glyph behind her with runes in it since she’s trying to bring magic back, the golden whisps also look magical, and the herbs and plants are for healing. There are diagrams of human anatomy behind her and the flowers have vials of what I presume is medicine strewn in them. This is also the first showing of flowers in a characters portrait, I thought it was representing her medical herbs and flowers. In the flower bed you can also see a split open pomegranate which could symbolize her growing doesn’t into darkness and crime as she tries to find a cure to Mariam similar to Persephone and the underworld.
Tumblr media
Antonetta’s is relatively simple. Her outfit is what her mom forces her to wear throughout most of the book and she’s wearing her heart locket. Her background is also pretty simple with no special patterns or symbols to speak of, just some lace patterning at the edge of the circle similar to her outfits. It’s really the foreground that interests me. The perfume bottle is slightly odd as we never get any focus on her using perfume or smelling nice, but it does fit the perfect noble woman image so it’s not out of place. The sword being mostly hidden except the hilt is a nod to the secret sword lessons she takes, which she’s hiding from nearly everyone. The rose is obvious symbolism for looking beautiful and pretty but having thorns if you try to grab it. Around this I started thinking that maybe the flowers represented characters who were trying to get more then their current position in life was giving them. The most confusing thing about her portrait though is the bloodied handkerchief and golden locket around it. Bloodied handkerchieves are pretty much solely used in fiction for someone with a deathly illness but as far as I know Antonetta isn’t sick in anyway and defiant not of the fatal kind. Maybe it’s a nod to her friendship with Mariam.
Tumblr media
For The Ragpicker King I would like to bring your anterior to his right hand. As you can hopefully see it looks like some slights scars are peaking out from his sleeve. What does this mean? I don’t know. I have no memory of this being described in the book, and was just something interesting I noticed. In the background you can see something that almost looks like a jail cell, likely referring to him being a criminal. There are also many playing cards flying around behind him for some reason, I’m not really sure since it’s never made note of him being especially in to card games or to use card metaphors in his plans. The piles of envelopes are likely his letters to and from the King and the books represent him once again being well read and his enjoyment of research. The evolvement of flowers once again confuses me because from what we see he seems perfectly content in his current life. Maybe it’s about how he escaped a life he was unhappy in.
Tumblr media
Ji-an doensy have much going on, neither do most of the characters moving forward. The most interesting thing I could find about her appearance is that she’s wearing makeup. She has the two black swans, which I’m pretty sure I’m not remembering the full importance of, from her line about the swan pulling her carriage. She has a variety of swords in the back ground, one of which is she is holding. This could both represent her status as a killer but also as sort of like ghosts of the family she killed. Her flowers continue to feed into my “escape from current life/escaped from past life” theory and there isn’t much else to say.
Tumblr media
Merren has nothing super interesting about his appearance in this portrait. It suits his personality and that’s about all I could say. The background is an obvious nod to his poisoner status with the wisps of smoke(possibly from hot tea?) leading up to a skull. I’m not entirely sure what the quills are supposed to represent, maybe it’s supposed to be because he’s a student so quills are like pencils in their world. Mostly his foreground also just seems to be about him being smart if a little messy when it comes to parts of his life outside of poisons and antidotes. The most specific thing I can find is the spilt concoction which is likely poisons. Once again the flowers are confusing, I had a theory that the flowers represented someone studiously seeking out knowledge, except Ji-an and Antonetta don’t follow this pattern. Merren also doesn’t fit into the “run/ran away from a life they didn’t like” theory unless there’s a part of his backstory that we don’t know about that fits into it. If anything he was pushed out of a life he liked. The flowers aren’t a super big part of the portrait and more of just an accessory anyways so fine, maybe it’s not meant to connect to the other flower portraits.
Tumblr media
Joss’s portrait has two elements worth taking note of. First, the abundance of arrows and bows. This is mostly likely a nod to indoor archery, but I do hope we get more archery in his character and fighting style down the line. Second, he has some flowers in the foreground. Which just adds to the confusion because, as far as we know, he’s pretty happy with his current life and he almost definitely hasn’t ran away from an old life.
Tumblr media
And the flowers continue to be confusing. Vienne is special in the fact that the flowers are pretty much the only other element of her portrait outside of herself. They do kind of make it look like she’s buried in flowers, especially with her helmet resting on the bed, and does work with the fact that she died at the end since giving flowers is a common way to pay respects to the dead, at least in western culture. In my admittedly short research session, the flowers seem to be Marigolds. These flowers are commonly used in day of the dead and symbolized grief and mourning in the victorian era, continuing the idea that these flowers are being used to represent her death. In renaissance times(the time period Cassie says she took the most inspiration from for those world) Marigolds were gifted to woman that men wanted seduce. What this means for Vienne I have no idea but it felt worth mentioning.
Tumblr media
Now at this point you might be thinking “Couldn’t the flowers not actually mean anything and instead it’s the lack of flowers that represents something?” And I was think that too until Jerrod and his lack of flowers came along! Why are the only characters without flowers Kel, Conor, and Jerrod?! In other news Jerrod has basically nothing to take note of. His fingers look much paler then the rest of his hand from the chalk and the daggers facing towards his head could either represent that he’s being threatened or that he’s threatening. That’s really it. The rope and keys seem to be vaguely related to being able to get into places, but at the current moment they don’t seem to really be that personally connected to him.
So over all I have three main questions after this:
What in the world do the presence or lack of presence of flowers mean?
Were the details that don’t make sense to us right now cut after the art was made or are they hinting at future developments?
Why didn’t Mariam get a portrait?

Hello, I hope you are doing well. And summer ends on a joyful note✨
Roboute Guilliman/reader-eternal(can she be related to Malcador?👀) Maybe NSFW?🤭I'm sure most primarchs have a breeding and pregnancy kink🤔 But Roboute is a special case: he had a good family and loving parents. He himself wants to be the same as Conor. He has a legacy to pass on. And if these inclinations of his had previously subsided, then now that he has a reader who can endure, nothing stops him. How would his Astartes react to the possibility of their primarch having a child of his own? How do they treat the reader?

Author's note: There's a lot here, so I thought it would be best to format my thoughts in my usual headcanons with a small drabble at the end way to make sure I could speak all my thoughts. I hope that's acceptable to you ;3 This one ended up not having any overt sauce because I got so distracted by sweet Guilliman, but if you desire the full NSFW, you're always welcome to send in another request because I'm a dolt xD
Relationships: Roboute Guilliman/Fem!Reader

I'd agree that a good amount of the Primarch's have that sort of kink, but it manifests in very different ways depending on which Primarch it is.
Lorgar wanting to corrupt purity or fall victim to primal temptations, Vulkan's desire for family, Magnus wanting to share his teachings; Guilliman's is more of the traditional sense.
For as long as he can remember, he's tossed away the idea of ever having a family. Given his lot in life, his duty to humanity, that isn't a thing he can indulge in. He has no time for such selfishness.
He's resigned himself to fighting for others to have that gift, not himself.
When you arrive in his life, Guilliman suddenly remembers how hard it had been to push and keep those thoughts down, now that you serve to constantly remind him.
He has many fond memories of training or hunting with his adoptive father, and one day he would like to have the same with his own child, if the galaxy would let him be so selfish.
When you do tell him you're with child he's an absolute mess though. You're both treading into unknown waters, after all. No matter how strong you are he still worries about your health.
The Ultramarines definitely have their qualms about it though.
Keep in mind they were raised from kids to be stalwart killing machines, so the kind of thoughts and dreams their Primarch is having are... weird to them.
They have more interaction with baseline humans that say the Dark Angels however, so they aren't totally out of touch.
You did disturb one of Guilliman's men when you keeled over in pain and he attempted to make sure you didn't fall, and he felt your child kick his palm. His disturbed face is forever seared in your memory as one of the funniest things you've ever seen. You're pretty sure the marine's squad still beats him up about the whole thing.
Mostly so, his captains and commanders worry. They know that you serve as a weakness (speaking in a logistical sense) to Guilliman that can be taken advantage of.
Tumblr media
He's exactly where you expected him to be.
The green haze of the hologram map shines against his skin, having been growing palid over the past weeks. Guilliman often times works himself into an awful state, pushing himself to the mental limit before finally taking respite.
You can't stop him from doing it. So the least you can do is enjoy a few moments of time with him alone before he goes back to the bridge of the Macragge's Honor to hear any updates from his commanders.
When he notices you in the doorway, his face perks up considerably.
"You should be resting." He instantly comes at you with, and you can't help but sigh.
"Not even a hello?" You come closer, and it's his turn to sigh. You walked all the way here, it's the least you can get from him. He puts a hand on your shoulder and presses his lips to the top of your head.
"Hello. You should be resting." There's papers, scrolls and plastic flimsies spread across the edges of the hologram table, clearly a mess done by him.
"I just wanted a few minutes alone with you, is that so wrong?" He sees the small hint of a smirk on your face, as he pulls away to lean on his hands pressed against the holotable. He takes a glance towards your belly.
"How are they?" You're well past showing at this point, and it will only be a few months until you're finally face to face with your child.
"Finally asleep, it seems. They stopped kicking my stomach."
He lets the smallest smile on his face.
"Yearning to fight, even bef-"
The door suddenly opens, revealing an unfamilar to you Ultramarine captain. A hand rests on the pommel of his chainblade, helmet tucked into his elbow. He also has the worst timing in the known galaxy, interrupting your private moment before it even had a chance to truly begin.
"Lord Primarch, You have a vox. Legion Captain Hektor holds news of a new world." The captain looks in your direction and nods his head.
"Apologies, Legion Mother."
You'll never get used to that title. One of many you had thrust upon you when you'd entered into a relationship with Roboute, even if they technically were not official. You were not bound by law as of yet, but the Chapter had taken to calling you Legion Mother none the less. It becoming official was less so a possibility, and more so an inevitability. The Captain bows and takes his leave, and the both of you are alone once again.
"Will I be attending this diplomacy meeting as well?" You joke, looking up to the Primarch.
"If you can do so without straining yourself, then possibly." Guilliman won't deny that you have a knack for diplomacy, no matter how much you might say otherwise. He wishes for worlds to surrender peacefully; He also wishes for you to remain in good health.
"Now go rest. The both of you."
You feel an armored hand gently press against your aching belly. Carrying a Primarch's child hasn't be easy on your body in the slightest; Even more so than a normal human child. You'll happily indulge in the rest, with one exception.
"As long as you come and join me once you're finished. Please?"
Even if you can get him to take a few minutes of respite, you'll consider it a victory. Roboute sighs as he looks downward.
"I will try." You just barely hear him mumble underneath his breath, as his hand still on your stomach. It moves slightly as he kneels.
"Be easy on your mother. She wasn't meant to carry someone like you."
His sentence makes you think for a moment, before he pulls away and lets you leave.
Guilliman did technically join you; But it was only after you'd already fallen asleep. He stepped into the room and gently sat down onto the massive bed, still in his armor. He didn't want to wake you and simply watched, hand sitting close to your leg. His eyes fluttered closed for a moment and his lips parted as he took a few deep breaths, and then took one more look at you- both of you, before standing and leaving again.

Conor here: The following post goes into the ins and outs of the case ahead of the April 23 beginning of the case, the outcome of which seems to be a foregone conclusion and will be a major blow to labor.>New York Times labor reporter Noam Scheiber noted back in January when the Supremes agreed to hear the case that the very fact that they did so meant they would likely rule so that it’s harder to unionize. The reasoning behind that belief isn’t just the conservative majority on the court but also that the courtdeclined to hear a similar case in 2014 (back before the current conservative majority).
By Michael Z. Green, professor of law and the director of the Workplace Law Program at Texas A&M University. Originally published at The Conversation.
What factors must a court consider when the National Labor Relations Board requests an order requiring an employer to rehire terminated workers before the completion of unfair labor practice proceedings?
That’s the central question that the Supreme Court will consider on April 23, 2024, during oral arguments in the Starbucks Corp. v. McKinney case. The global coffee shop chain is challenging the NLRB, the federal agency responsible for enforcing U.S. workers’ rights to organize, saying that the agency used the more labor-friendly of two available standards when it asked a federal court to order the company to reinstate workers at a Memphis, Tennessee, store who lost their jobs in 2022 amid a nationwide unionizing campaign.
The Conversation U.S. asked Texas A&M law professor Michael Z. Green to explain what’s behind this case and how the court’s eventual decision, expected by the end of June, could affect the right to organize unions in the United States.
What Is This Case About?
Seven baristas who were attempting to organize a union at a Starbucks shop in Memphis, Tennessee, were fired in February 2022. Starbucks justified their dismissal by asserting that the employees, sometimes called the “Memphis 7,” had broken company rules by reopening their store after closing time and inviting people who weren’t employees, including a television crew, to go inside.
In June of that year, the shop became one of more than 400 Starbucks locations since 2021 that have voted in favor of joining Workers United, an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union.
While a complaint over the mass dismissal was pending with the NLRB, Kathleen McKinney, the NLRB director for the region that includes Memphis, sought an injunction in a federal district court to force Starbucks to give the Memphis 7 their jobs back while the case proceeded. The company must “cease its unlawful conduct immediately so that all Starbucks workers can fully and freely exercise their labor rights,” she said.
By August 2022, a judge had ordered Starbucks to do that, and in September the baristas were back on staff.
Although the seven baristas got their jobs back and the union vote prevailed, the company has appealed the case all the way to the Supreme Court because it believes the court should not have ordered the company to reinstate the workers while NLRB proceedings were still pending.
But the NLRB argues, and the lower courts agreed, that the terminations chilled further union activities at the store even after the election.
Nevertheless, Starbucks argues that firing the seven workers had no effect because employees at that coffeehouse still voted in favor of unionization.
What’s Being Challenged?
The justices will have to decide which approach federal courts should use when they consider requests for injunctions like this one.
Currently, five appeals courts, including the one where this case arose, base their decision on a two-part test.
First, the courts determine whether there is “reasonable cause” to believe an unfair labor practice has occurred. Second, they determine whether granting an injunction would be “just and proper.”
Four other appeals courts use a four-part test.
First, the courts ask whether the unfair labor practice case is likely to succeed on the merits in establishing that labor violations occurred. Second, they look to see if the workers the NLRB is attempting to protect will face irreparable harm without an injunction. Third, after showing likelihood of success and irreparable harm, they ask whether those factors outweigh any hardships the employer is likely to face due to compliance with the court’s order. Fourth, they ask whether issuing the injunction serves the public interest.
Two other appeals courts use a hybrid test that appears to have components of both of the tests. They ask whether issuing an injunction would be “just and proper” by considering the elements of the four-part test.
In its Supreme Court brief, Starbucks argues that having to give workers their jobs back in these circumstances can cause “irreparable injury” and that it’s an “extraordinary remedy.”
The NLRB, in its Supreme Court brief, says that the injunction was proper in this case because Starbucks terminated 80% of the union organizing committee at the Memphis store and the evidence showed the chilling effect this action had on the “lone remaining union activist.” According to the NLRB, this chilling effect “harmed the union campaign in ways that a subsequent Board ruling could not repair.”
A labor reporter discussing Starbucks’ unfair labor practice cases, including the one involving the Memphis 7, determined that NLRB administrative law judges had found labor violations in 48 out of 49 cases.
What’s the Potential Impact of the Court’s Eventual Ruling on This Case?
While the case may sound like it’s only about seven people employed at a single coffee shop, the scope is wider than that.
Although the NLRB issues hundreds of unfair labor practice complaints against employers every year, it usually doesn’t turn to the courts to force the rehiring of employees. It only sought these types of injunctions 17 times in 2023, for example.
And seven of those efforts involved Starbucks. Despite the small number of overall injunctions, the large number of unfair labor practice complaints – and the eventual 48 out of 49 findings of violations – might support the rare use of injunctions in this case.
If the Supreme Court rules in favor of Starbucks, the overall impact seems unclear.
For one thing, the court will have picked one test over another without any proof that one is more likely to result in an injunction or not. In addition, the underlying unfair labor practice case has been resolved, since the workers have gotten their jobs back and their workplace has joined a union.
What’s more, Starbucks has agreed to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with the union – which has continued to make inroads at the company’s coffee shops.
Because the NLRB rarely seeks injunctions, the fact that this issue has obtained enough importance for consideration by the Supreme Court seems odd considering its valuable time and the limited number of cases it can consider each year. But let’s see what the court’s majority decides.

The actor Lou Gossett Jr, who has died aged 87, is best known for his performance in An Officer and A Gentleman (1982) as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley, whose tough training transforms recruit Richard Gere into the man of the film’s title. He was the first black winner of an Academy Award for best supporting actor, and only the third black actor (after Hattie McDaniel and Sidney Poitier) to take home any Oscar.
The director, Taylor Hackford, said he cast Gossett in a role written for a white actor, following a familiar Hollywood trope played by John Wayne, Burt Lancaster, Victor McLaglen or R Lee Ermey, because while researching he realised the tension of “black enlisted men having make-or-break control over whether white college graduates would become officers”. Gossett had already won an Emmy award playing a different sort of mentor, the slave Fiddler who teaches Kunta Kinte the ropes in Roots (1977), but he was still a relatively unknown 46-year-old when he got his breakthrough role, despite a long history of success on stage and in music as well as on screen.
Born in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, Louis was the son of Helen (nee Wray), a nurse, and Louis Sr, a porter. As a child he suffered from polio, but became a high school athlete before a basketball injury led to his joining the drama club. His teacher encouraged him to audition professionally, and at 17 he was on Broadway playing a troubled child in Take a Giant Step, which won him a Donaldson award for best newcomer.
He won a drama scholarship to New York University, but continued working, in The Desk Set (1955), and made his television debut in two episodes of the NBC anthology show The Big Story. In 1959 he was cast with Poitier and Ruby Dee in Raisin in the Sun, and made his film debut reprising his role in 1961. On Broadway that year he played in Jean Genet’s The Blacks, in an all-star cast with James Earl Jones, Cicely Tyson, Roscoe Lee Brown, Godfrey Cambridge and a young Maya Angelou; it was the decade’s longest-running show.
Gossett was also active in the Greenwich Village folk music scene. He released his first single Hooka Dooka, Green Green in 1964, followed by See See Rider, and co-wrote the anti-war hit Handsome Johnny with Richie Havens. In 1967 he released another single, a drums and horns version of Pete Seeger’s anti-war hymn Where Have All the Flowers Gone. He was in the gospel musical Tambourines to Glory (1963) and in producer Mike Todd’s America, Be Seated at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
His plays became more limited: The Zulu and the Zayda and My Sweet Charlie; the very short run of Carry Me Back to Morningside Heights, in which he played a black man owning a white slave; and a revival of Golden Boy (1964), with Sammy Davis Jr. His final Broadway part was as the murdered Congolese leader Patrice Lamumba, in Conor Cruise O’Brien’s Murderous Angels (1971). Gossett had played roles in New York-set TV series such as The Naked City, but he began to make a mark in Hollywood, despite LAPD officers having handcuffed him to a tree, on “suspicion”, in 1966.
On TV he starred in The Young Rebels (1970-71) set in the American revolution. In film, he was good as a desperate tenant in Hal Ashby’s Landlord (1970) and brilliant with James Garner in Skin Game (1971), taking part in a con trick in which Garner sells him repeatedly into slavery then helps him to escape.
In 1977, alongside Roots, he attracted attention as a memorable villain in Peter Yates’s hit The Deep, and got artistic revenge on the LAPD in Robert Aldrich’s The Choirboys. The TV movie of The Lazarus Syndrome (1979) became a series in which Gossett played a realistic hospital chief of staff set against an idealistic younger doctor. He played the black baseball star Satchel Paige in the TV movie Don’t Look Back (1981); years later he had a small part as another Negro League star, Cool Papa Bell, in The Perfect Game (2009).
After his Oscar, he played another assassinated African leader, in the TV mini-series Sadat, reportedly approved for the role by Anwar Sadat’s widow Jihan. Though he remained a busy working actor, good starring roles in major productions eluded him, as producers fell back on his drill sergeant image. He was Colonel “Chappy” Sinclair in Iron Eagle (1986) and its three dismal sequels.
But in 1989 he starred in Dick Wolf’s TV series Gideon Oliver, as an anthropology professor solving crimes in New York. And he won a best supporting actor Golden Globe for his role in the TV movie The Josephine Baker Story (1991). He revisited the stage in the film adaptation of Sam Shepard’s Curse of the Starving Class (1994).
Gossett twice received the NAACP’s Image Award, and another Emmy for producing a children’s special, In His Father’s Shoes (1997). In 2006 he founded the Eracism Foundation, providing programmes to foster “cultural diversity, historical enrichment and anti-violence initiatives”. Despite an illness eventually linked to toxic mould in his Santa Monica home, he kept working with a recurring part in Stargate SG-1 (2005-06). A diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2010 hardly slowed him down.
Most recently, he played Will “Hooded Justice” Reeves in the TV series Watchmen (2019), in the series Kingdom Business, about the gospel music industry, and in the 2023 musical remake of The Color Purple.
His first marriage, to Hattie Glascoe, in 1967, was annulled after five months; his second, to Christina Mangosing, lasted for two years from 1973; and his third, to Cyndi (Cynthia) James, from 1987 to 1992. He is survived by two sons, Satie, from his second marriage, and Sharron, from his third.

Hiii! I think about your WKS playlist and.. may I please ask what songs do you associate with wenzhou? I'm going insane about ship-playlists and currently dying to know your your opinion!
Also, your art is amazing!
Gladly ✨
But be ready, it's extra sentimental and soft.
For me, Francesca is the wenzhou song number one, every line of it is too good. The others are for the romantic mood mostly. Separated, these two are sad and desolated, consumed by thoughts about the past, their losses, and concerns. And then they find understanding and support in each other, keep going, and keep living for each other. This feeling is very different from their lives before they met, and the playlist captures only this small part. They can be soft and sincere when they are alone. Maybe later I'll think of something more passionate because there's a lot of fire between them as well. I like thinking of wenzhou as puzzle pieces that click and how they become better together (I don't mean “heroes”, they hate this word lol). Gosh I really should make a badass playlist for them ehehe
Thank you for your attention and support 🥰🫶
