This is probably a controversial take but, in terms of triggers its up to the person with the trigger to curate their experience (to a large extent).
If someone is triggered by cats its not on the person who has a pet blog to use every trigger warning they can think of for cats, its up to the person with the trigger to block every potential tag. And maybe reevaluate following a pet blog if they have a fear of cats.
The way the tag system worked in the past was apparently dumb. But even more modern tag usage can lead to so many different tags for one thing.
Ex: cats, cat, cat tw, cats tw, tw cat, tw cats, cw cat, cw cats, cats cw, cat cw, ailurophobia cw, cw ailurophobia, tw ailurophobia, ailurophobia tw.
Thats a lot of potential tags, you can’t expect everyone to use whichever one of those tags you decided you block, you have to just block all of them.
It can be hard enough for some people to remember to even tag things all the time especially if they mostly use the quick reblog feature (which, i think at least still filters based on ops tags). You just can’t expect them to add every possible trigger warning tag to their posts every time.
